Abstract:
The increase in Power Electronic (PE) converters due to the increase in offshore wind energy deployment have given rise to technical challenges (e.g., due to unprecedented fast dynamic phenomena) related to voltage and frequency stability in the power system. In the Offshore Wind Farms (OWFs), the currently available current injection-based voltage control for PE converters are not suitable for voltage control in PE dominated systems due to the absence of continuous voltage control and ineffectiveness during islanding. Moreover, in such power systems, the conventional controllers are not suitable for frequency control due to the absence of dynamic frequency control. The paper presents the Direct Voltage Control (DVC) strategy in a real-time environment to mitigate challenges related to voltage and frequency stability during islanding of OWFs. The control strategy is implemented in the average Electro-magnetic Transient (EMT) model of Type-4 Wind Generator (WG) in RSCAD® Version 5.011.1. It is compared with the benchmark model of the control strategy in DIgSILENT PowerFactoryTM 2019 SP2 (×64) in EMT platform. The comparison based on short-term voltage stability and reactive current injection reveals that both the models provide similar results, confirming the validation of the RSCAD model. Moreover, the detailed representation of the converters in the RSCAD model provides a better depiction of the real-world operation.

Abstract:
This paper proposes a decentralized control approach using a co-simulation platform to monitor protective elements and provide complete protection scheme for distribution systems. Real time measurements are obtained by interfacing the system model in RSCAD/RTDS with SEL 421 protective relays and publish/subscribe the voltage and current signals of the buses and transmission lines based on IEC 61850 communication protocol to isolate the fault correctly. The proposed technique helps to identify the location of the fault and introduces primary and buck protection for the system. The communication networks assists in facing cyber and physical threats and finding a new path for healthy relays to remove faults from the system. This technique is investigated on an IEEE 14 bus system for all possible fault locations. The proposed scheme can clear the fault by isolating the minimum part of the system and improving the endurance of the power in it. The system shows the smooth information flow between the cyber and physical parts to isolate faults in it in different cases.

Abstract:
High penetration of wind power plants may have an adverse impact on power systems’ stability by reducing the inertia, and problems like frequency stability could appear due to total inertia in the system being reduced, making the power system more vulnerable to disturbances. However, most recent grid codes include an emulation inertia requirement for wind power plants, because modern wind turbines are capable of providing virtual inertia through power electronic converter controls to improve frequency stability issues. Because of this, it is necessary that the inertia estimation analyze and quantify the impact of the inertia reduction in power systems. In this paper, an implementation of a methodology for the inertia estimation of wind power plants is presented. It is evaluated through synchrophasor measurements obtained from a Real-Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) implementation, using industrial Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs). This methodology is based on the swing equation. Furthermore, a comparison of the results obtained between two professional tools RSCAD and DIgSILENT PowerFactory is performed, in order to evaluate the accuracy and the robustness of the methodology. This methodology is applied for the inertia estimation of an equivalent of the southeast zone of the Mexican power system, where there is a large-scale penetration of wind power plants. The results demonstrate that this methodology can be applied in real power systems using PMUs.

Abstract:
The multi-modular converter (MMC) technology is becoming the preferred option for the increased deployment of variable renewable energy sources (RES) into electrical power systems. MMC is known for its reliability and modularity. The fast adjustment of the MMC’s active/reactive powers, within a few milliseconds, constitutes a major research challenge. The solution to this challenge will allow accelerated integration of RES, without creating undesirable stability issues in the future power system. This paper presents a variant of model predictive control (MPC) for the grid-connected MMC. MPC is defined using a Laguerre function to reduce the computational burden. This is achieved by reducing the number of parameters of the MMC cost function. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed MPC is verified in the real-time digital simulations. Additionally, in this paper, a comparison between an accurate mathematical and real-time simulation (RSCAD) model of an MMC is given. The comparison is done on the level of small-signal disturbance and a Mean Absolute Error (MAE). In the MMC, active and reactive power controls, AC voltage control, output current control, and circulating current controls are implemented, both using PI and MPC controllers. The MPC’s performance is tested by the small and large disturbance in active and reactive powers, both in an offline and online simulation. In addition, a sensitivity study is performed for different variables of MPC in the offline simulation. Results obtained in the simulations show good correspondence between mathematical and real-time analytical models during the transient and steady-state conditions with low MAE. The results also indicate the superiority of the proposed MPC with the stable and fast active/reactive power support in real-time simulation.

Abstract:
The existing methods of fault location (FL) on power lines are often unable to provide the required accuracy and are unstable to the influence of metering-distorting factors. The main source of errors of the FL devices is the primary current and voltage transducers. Using innovative current and voltage sensors (including Rogowski coils for physical measurement of the primary current derivative) as part of digital measuring transformers allows significant improvements in the accuracy of measuring electrical values during short-circuits. The aim of the work was to develop an enhanced accuracy FL function as part of an information system (IS) that takes into account the characteristics of non-traditional primary converters and, in general, digital current and voltage transformers. The methods of the electrical circuit theory, mathematical simulation and physical-mathematical modeling are used. The computer experiments are carried out in the modern modeling systems Matlab + Simulink and RSCAD, and the physical and mathematical modeling – in the real-time modeling complex RTDS. For modeling power transmission lines, the specific parameters were assumed to be known and unchanged. The developed FL function differs from its analogs as it uses information signals from digital current and voltage transformers, is characterized by operation stability under the influence of some metering-distorting factors (presence of transient resistance, changes in electrical load, breakdown phase, presence of capacitance of phases to earth, etc.) and an error not exceeding 8 % (at large distances and in the presence of transitional resistance in short-circuit locations) or 3 % (in the absence of metering-distorting factors). A prototype of the IS with the FL function has been designed and experimentally tested. The developed FL function allows increasing the accuracy of short-circuit location determination and reducing the time of finding the fault. Fault location IS data can be used by the operating personnel of electrical networks. The reliability of the obtained results is determined by the methods of the classical electrical circuit theory and the theory of electromagnetic transients in electrical power systems, and by the convergence of the results obtained in the study of the function accuracy in different modeling complexes.

Abstract:
We have shown that short-term exposure of rat small coronary arteries (RSCAs) to high glucose enhances superoxide (O2−·) formation and impairs cAMP-mediated dilation by reducing voltage-gated K+ (Kv) channel function. However, it is not clear whether the impairment also occurs in diabetes mellitus (DM), where alternate mechanisms could mask or aggravate vasodilator dysfunction. RSCAs were isolated from control and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Reduced constriction to 4-aminopyridine (4-AP) was observed in RSCAs from DM rats, indicating Kv channel impairment. Forskolin increased 4-AP-inhibitable K+ channel open-state probability and whole cell K+ current density in coronary myocytes from non-DM rats but had little effect on K+ current density in cells from DM rats. Diminished dilation to 8-bromo-cAMP, forskolin, or isoproterenol was observed in DM RSCAs. The attenuated dilation to forskolin or isoproterenol in DM RSCAs was partially restored by application of the superoxide dismutase mimetic manganese[III] tetrakis (4-benzoic acid) porphyrin. Histofluorescence studies using hydroethidine revealed a blockage of O2−· generation by the NADPH oxidase inhibitor apocynin in DM RSCAs. Sepiapterin, a precursor of tetrahydrobiopterin, had little effect on hyperglycemia-induced O2−· formation. Consistent with the findings from the concurrent fluorescence study, apocynin also partially restored the reduced dilator response to forskolin in DM RSCAs. Forskolin-induced cAMP production was unaltered in DM. We conclude that in diabetes, enhanced O2−· formation by activation of NADPH oxidase impairs cAMP-medicated dilation in RSCAs by inhibiting Kv channel activity.

Background. The distinction between right-sided and left-sided colon adenocarcinoma has recently received considerable. This study aims to identify key MicroRNA (miRNA) and mRNAs in right-sided colon adenocarcinoma (RSCOAD) and left-sided colon adenocarcinoma (LSCOAD) by TCGA integration analysis.Methods. The miRNA and mRNA expression profiles of a large group of patients with RSCOAD and LSCOAD were obtained from TCGA. The differentially expressed miRNAs (DEmiRNAs) and mRNAs (DEmRNAs) were identified by TCGA integration analysis. The optimal diagnostic miRNA biomarkers for RSCOAD and LSCOAD were identified by Boruta algorithm. We established classification models to distinguish RSCOAD and LSCOAD. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) network analysis, DEmiRNA-DEmRNA interaction analysis, and functional annotation were performed. The expression of selected DEmiRNAs and DEmRNAs was validated by qRT-PCR.Results. A total of 2534 DEmRNAs (940 downregulated and 1594 upregulated mRNAs) and 54 DEmiRNAs (22 downregulated and 32 upregulated miRNAs) between RSCOAD and LSCOAD were identified. The feature selection procedure was to obtain 22 optimal diagnostic miRNAs biomarkers in RSCOAD compared to LSCOAD. The AUC of the random forests model was 0.869 and the specificity and sensitivity of this model were 79% and 84.6%, respectively. Three DEmiRNAs (hsa-miR-224-5p, hsa-miR-155-5p, and hsa-miR-31-5p) and five DEmRNAs (CXCR4, SMAD4, KRAS, FITM2, and PLAGL2) were identified key DEmiRNAs and DEmRNAs in RSCOAD compared to LSCOAD. The qRT-PCR results of CXCR4, FITM2, TFAP2A, ULBP2, hsa-miR-224-5p, and hsa-miR-155-5p were consistent with our integrated analysis.Conclusion. A total of three DEmiRNAs (hsa-miR-224-5p, hsa-miR-155-5p, and hsa-miR-31-5p) and five DEmRNAs (CXCR4, SMAD4, KRAS, FITM2, and PLAGL2) may be involved in the pathogenesis of RSCOAD and LSCOAD which may make a contribution for understanding mechanisms and developing therapeutic strategies for RSCOAD and LSCOAD.

ABSTRACTObjectiveEarthquakes may lead to a reaction to severe stress and adjustment disorders (RSSAD). On September 7, 19, and 23, 2017, Mexico was struck by many severe earthquakes. The aim of this study was to examine whether there was an increase in the number of consultations and RSSAD in a psychiatric emergency department in Mexico City after these earthquakes.MethodsWe studied retrospectively the diagnosis and triage assessment from a Mexican psychiatric emergency department database from September 1 to November 30, 2017, and analyzed RSSAD and the number of consultations after the earthquakes.ResultsA total of 1,811 psychiatric emergency consultations were registered from the period of study. A total of 141 consultations represented RSSAD. There was a significant increase of RSSAD after the September 23, 2017, earthquake. The triage assessment revealed that the urgency of the consultations was higher immediately after the earthquakes.ConclusionNatural disasters, such as earthquakes, may trigger diverse RSSAD leading to increased emergency consultations, especially when those disasters are repetitive. Mental health professionals should be adequately trained and sensitized for possible acute disaster victims. (Disaster Med Public Health Preparedness. 2019;13:686–690).

Abstract:
The conditions for the preparation of rubber (hevea brasiliensis) seed coat based activated carbon (RSCAC) treated with NaOH were optimized through response surface methodology (RSM). The effects of three preparation variables: the activation temperature, activation time and NaOH impregnation ratio (IR) on Remazol Brilliant Blue R (RBBR) removal from aqueous solutions and RSCAC yield were investigated. Based on the RSM, two quadratic models were respectively developed to correlate the preparation variables to the RBBR percentage removal and carbon yield. The significant factors on each experimental design response were identified from the analysis of variance (ANOVA). The optimum conditions for RSCAC preparation were obtained by using activation temperature of 700 °C, activation time of 1.0 h and IR of 1.0, which resulted in 70.82% of RBBR removal and 24.93% of RSCAC yield.

Abstract:
Aberrant origin of the subclavian artery (SCA) is a well-known vascular anomaly as part of congenital heart diseases with the left subclavian artery (LSCA) being more frequently affected than the right subclavian artery (RSCA). Complete isolation of the SCA is an even more infrequent aortic arch anomaly, occurring in less than 1% for the LSCA and even less for the RSCA. Isolation of the RSCA in patients with d-transposition of the great arteries (D-TGA) is even scanter with only a hand full of cases being reported in the literature. However, isolation of the RSCA has important implications on hemodynamics and surgical strategies. In this case report, we present a newborn patient with D-TGA which presented with distinct differential cyanosis. While the right upper extremity appeared pink with an oxygen saturation of 100%, the rest of the body was cyanotic. At first, this appearance was interpreted as the Harlequin phenomenon during primary care. However, detailed echocardiography revealed an aberrant origin of the RSCA from the right pulmonary artery, which led to the differential cyanosis. The patient underwent arterial switch operation on day of life two including dissection and reimplantation of the RSCA. The special hemodynamic situation of this is discussed in terms of pathophysiology and as well as its impact on perioperative and surgical management.

Abstract:
Remote sensing change detection (RSCD) is an important yet challenging task in Earth observation. The booming development of convolutional neural networks (CNNs) in computer vision raises new possibilities for RSCD, and many recent RSCD methods have introduced CNNs to achieve promising improvements in performance. In this paper we propose a novel multidirectional fusion and perception network for change detection in bi-temporal very-high-resolution remote sensing images. First, we propose an elaborate feature fusion module consisting of a multidirectional fusion pathway (MFP) and an adaptive weighted fusion (AWF) strategy for RSCD to boost the way that information propagates in the network. The MFP enhances the flexibility and diversity of information paths by creating extra top-down and shortcut-connection paths. The AWF strategy conducts weight recalibration for every fusion node to highlight salient feature maps and overcome semantic gaps between different features. Second, a novel perceptual similarity module is designed to introduce perceptual loss into the RSCD task, which adds perceptual information, such as structure and semantic information, for high-quality change map generation. Extensive experiments on four challenging benchmark datasets demonstrate the superiority of the proposed network compared with eight state-of-the-art methods in terms of F1, Kappa, and visual qualities.

Abstract:
Objective. (1) To propose a novel technique named thoracic extensive laminoplasty (TELP) in curing severe thoracic ligamentum flavum ossification (STOLF) and (2) to compare outcomes between TELP and laminectomy in curing STOLF. Methods. Cases with fused or tuberous STOLF (Sato classification) treated from Jan 2015 to Jan 2017 were reviewed and divided into the TELP group (G1) and laminectomy group (G2) according to their surgical management. Data on demographics, complications, pre- and postoperative symptoms, residual spinal canal area (RSCA-1), residual spinal cord area (RSCA-2), modified Japanese Orthopedic Association score (mJOA), and health-related quality of life (HRQOL, based on the SF-36) were collected. Results. Fifty-nine G1 and sixty-two G2 patients were enrolled. No significant differences in demographic data or preoperative data of RSCA-1, RSCA-2, mJOA, or HRQOL were observed between the two groups ( p > 0.05 ). Patients in G1 and G2 showed similar postoperative improvements in RSCA-1 and RSCA-2 at the final follow-up ( p > 0.05 ). However, patients in G1 showed higher postoperative improvements in mJOA ( OR = 2.706 , 95% CI: 1.279~5.727, p = 0.008 ) at the final follow-up. Patients in G1 also showed higher postoperative improvements in HRQOL than patients in G2 ( p < 0.05 ) at the final follow-up, and patients with more severe STOLF presented with better improvements in HRQOL in G1 ( p < 0.05 ). Dural laceration and cerebrospinal fluid leakage were observed in seven G2 patients, and no complications were found in G1 patients after surgery. Conclusion. TELP is a novel, effective, and safer surgical technique in treating STOLF and could be a substitute for traditional laminectomy.

Abstract:
Loblolly ( Pinus taeda) and slash ( Pinus elliottii) pine tree biomass are significant renewable energy resources for bioenergy industries in the Southeastern United States. There is a great need for evaluation of their properties (relevant to production and evaluation-screening for bioenergy extraction) by rapid but accurate analytical methods like near infrared reflectance (NIR) spectroscopy. However, no attempts have been made so far to develop useful NIR spectroscopic calibration models for analyzing biomass of these two species. In this study, acceptable NIR spectroscopic calibration models were developed for: gross calorific value, GCV ( n = 181; R2 = 0.83; ratio of standard error of cross-validation to deviation, RSCD = 2.32; ratio of standard error of cross-validation to inter-quartile distance, RSCIQ = 2.68); net calorific value, NCV ( n = 184; R2 = 0.83; RSCD = 2.31; RSCIQ = 2.69); ash-free calorific value, AFCV ( n = 184; R2 = 0.83; RSCD = 2.24; RSCIQ = 2.49); moisture ( n = 181; R2 = 0.85; RSCD = 2.54; RSCIQ = 2.30); ash ( n = 180; R2 = 0.86; RSCD = 2.65; RSCIQ = 2.62); total carbon, C ( n = 101; R2 = 0.95; RSCD = 3.01; RSCIQ = 5.66); total nitrogen, N ( n = 87; R2 = 0.95; RSCD = 4.24; RSCIQ = 4.76); and total sulfur, S ( n = 83; R2 = 0.97; RSCD = 4.17; RSCIQ = 3.05) contents of these biomasses though the calibration models for NCV and AFCV are indirect calibration. Prediction of the independent validation sets yielded good agreement between the NIR spectroscopic predicted values and the laboratory reference values for each of: GCV ( n = 92; r2 = 0.89; ratio of performance to deviation; RPD = 3.01; ratio of performance to inter-quartile distance, RPIQ = 3.16); NCV ( n = 91; r2 = 0.83; RPD = 2.43; RPIQ = 3.06); AFCV ( n = 91; r2 = 0.80; RPD = 2.25; RPIQ = 2.83); moisture ( n = 92; r2 = 0.82; RPD = 2.38; RPIQ = 2.40); ash ( n = 89; r2 = 0.81; RPD = 2.30; RPIQ = 2.66); C ( n = 43; r2 = 0.90; RPD = 3.14; RPIQ = 3.23); N ( n = 44; r2 = 0.95; RPD = 4.33; RPIQ = 5.96); and S ( n = 42; r2 = 0.93; RPD = 3.67; RPIQ = 3.24) contents, indicating that all eight calibration models had good quantitative information. The standard errors of prediction for all models were less than twice the corresponding standard error of laboratory. Therefore, precise, accurate, and rapid analysis of calorific values and C, N, S contents of these biomasses can be done using these novel NIR spectroscopic calibration models developed.

Abstract:
This paper presents an effective image analysis method for visual surface crack detection, called a robust self-driven crack detection algorithm (RSCDA). Firstly, a local texture anisotropy (LTA) is estimated based on self-driven local feature statistics from the original photograph. Secondly, the LTA is used to detect candidate crack pixels. Finally, the actual crack pixels are accurately identified using two effective measurements for connected domains based on discriminative direction and relative sparse features. The results demonstrate that the RSCDA is an effective and robust surface crack detection method for building materials or textiles.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT The ability of Streptococcus pyogenes (group A streptococcus [GAS]) to respond to changes in environmental conditions is essential for this gram-positive organism to successfully cause disease in its human host. The two-component system CovRS controls expression of about 15% of the GAS genome either directly or indirectly. In most operons studied, CovR acts as a repressor. We previously linked CovRS to the GAS stress response by showing that the sensor kinase CovS is required to inactivate the response regulator CovR so that GAS can grow under conditions of heat, acid, and salt stress. Here, we sought to identify CovR-repressed genes that are required for growth under stress. To do this, global transcription profiles were analyzed by microarrays following exposure to increased temperature (40°C) and decreased pH (pH 6.0). The CovR regulon in an M type 6 strain of GAS was also examined by global transcriptional analysis. We identified a gene, rscA (regulated by stress and Cov), whose transcription was confirmed to be repressed by CovR and activated by heat and acid. RscA is a member of the MDR1 family of ABC transporters, and we found that it is required for growth of GAS at 40°C but not at pH 6.0. Thus, for GAS to grow at 40°C, CovR repression must be alleviated so that rscA can be transcribed to allow the production of this potential exporter. Possible explanations for the thermoprotective role of RscA in this pathogen are discussed.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the factor structure of the Resiliency Scales for Children and Adolescents (RSCA, Prince-Embury, 2006, 2007) and to provide supporting evidence that this is a psychometrically sound measure for practitioners and researchers to use to assess resilience in incarcerated male adolescent offenders in the UK. Design/methodology/approach Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) was used to determine if the factor structure could be replicated among incarcerated male adolescent offenders. Concurrent validation of the measure was also conducted, utilising the Beck Youth Inventory, second edition (BYI-II-II; Beck et al., 2005). Findings CFA of the RSCA was unable to confirm the structure of the measure at an item level, therefore parcelling techniques were utilised similarly to Prince-Embury and Courville (2008), using the subscales for the factors as indicators for the factors. While a three-factor model was found to be an acceptable fit to the data, there was also some support for a two-factor model. Despite this, there was more statistical support for the three-factor model and arguments are made for retaining this structure. Expected associations between the three subscales of sense of mastery, sense of relatedness and emotional reactivity were found with the Beck Youth Inventory demonstrating support for the concurrent validity of the measure in incarcerated male adolescent offenders. Practical implications This paper provides support for the internal structure of the RSCA with incarcerated male adolescent offenders within the UK, although some caution should be used when interpreting scores from the subscales. The findings suggest that the RSCA can be utilised by practitioners to identify young people who may benefit from additional support and also in assessment and treatment/intervention planning. This may be particularly useful when practitioners wish to explore the potential protective nature of resilience. Originality/value The current study is the first of its kind to formally explore the factor structure of the RSCA with incarcerated male adolescent offenders.

Abstract:
Competitiveness is the ability to trade products that meet the requirements of global demand for better price, quality, and quantity. International competition in the agricultural and food industries has been significantly increased due to globalization. Furthermore, labor-intensive countries are losing competitiveness due to lack of local value addition and other development efforts. This study aims to examine the competitiveness of the mandarin industry for the world’s 15 leading mandarin exporters using revealed symmetric comparative advantage (RSCA). An attempt was also made to assess the effect of productivity growth and real effective exchange rate on the competitiveness of the mandarin industry through panel regression analysis. The results showed that RSCA patterns vary between the selected countries and only five countries, that is, Morocco, Spain, Pakistan, Turkey, and Peru have a comparative advantage in mandarin exports while all other countries have a comparative disadvantage. The highest change in the RSCA value was seen for Pakistan which gives a good indication of the status of the country in the development of its mandarin industry. For Pakistan, there is a need to explore the new high-value market to further exploit this comparative advantage and to increase export earnings.

Abstract:
Kata Kunci: Data Panel, Daya Saing, Integrasi Ekonomi, Model Gravitasi, RSCA Abstract The positive impact of the implementation of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Agreement (ACFTA) on the indonesia’s horticulture sub-sector should be obtained. However, the Indonesian horticulture sub-sector has not shown significant performance when import of horticultural products has increased through the ACFTA tariff reduction stages in The Early Harvest Programm (EHP). This study examines the performance of Indonesian horticultural imports using descriptive analysis. It also analyzes the competitiveness of horticultural products of ASEAN-5 countries with China as well as the impact of trade creation and trade diversion of the implementation of ACFTA on imports of Indonesian horticultural products. It uses the RSCA (Revealed Symmetric Comparative Advantage) index and the gravity model using panel data from 2001-2018. It shows that Indonesia is not competitive in both types of horticultural products (RSCA <0). The gravity model also indicates that ACFTA member countries have taken advantage of this regional agreement, marked by the high value of Indonesian horticultural imports, especially from China. This shows that the implementation of the ACFTA has created a trade creation effect by increasing intra-regional trade between ACFTA member countries, but has not led to a diversion of trade with non-member countries (trade with non-member countries has not decreased). Therefore, it is necessary to make policy strategies to increase competitiveness through improvements in managerial and technological components in line with the opening of the market in this region to Indonesian MSMEs. Abstract:
Objective Despite centralisation of the provision of vascular care, not all areas in England and Wales are able to offer emergency treatment for patients with acute conditions affecting the aorta proximal to the renal arteries. While cardiothoracic centres have made network arrangements to coordinate care for the repair of type A dissections, a similar plan for vascular care is lacking. This study investigates early outcomes in patients with ruptured suprarenal aortic aneurysm or dissection (rSRAD) transferred to a specialist centre. Methods Retrospective observational study over a five-year period (2009–2014) assessing outcomes of patients with ruptured sRAD diagnosed at their local hospital and then transferred to a tertiary centre capable of offering such treatment. Results Fifty-two patients (median age 73 years, 32 male) with rSRAD were transferred and a further four died during transit. The mean distance of patient transfer was 35 miles (range 4–211 miles). One patient did not undergo intervention due to frailty and two died before reaching the operating theatre. A total of 23 patients underwent endovascular repair, 9 hybrid repair and 17 open surgery. Median follow-up was 12 months (range 1–43 months). Complications included paraplegia (n = 3), stroke (n = 2), type IA endoleak (n = 4); 30-day and in-hospital mortality were 16% and 27%. For patients discharged alive from hospital, one-year survival was 67%. Conclusions Although the number of patients with rSRAD is low and those who are transferred alive are a self-selecting group, this study suggests that transfer of such patients to a specialist vascular centre is associated with acceptable mortality rates following emergency complex aortic repair.

First, we introduce two new reformulation convexification based hierarchies calledRTCandRSCfor which the rankdcontinuous relaxations are denoted byP^RTCdandP^RSCd, respectively. These two hierarchies are obtained using two different convexification schemes:term convexificationin the case of theRTChierarchy andstandard convexificationin the case of theRSChierarchy. Secondly, we compare thestrengthof these two hierarchies. We will prove that (i) the hierarchyRTCisequivalentto theRLThierarchy of Sherali-Adams, (ii) the hierarchyRTCdominates the hierarchyRSC, and (iii) the hierarchyRSCis dominated by the Lift-and-Project hierarchy. Thirdly, for every rankd, we will prove thatconvTd∩Etd⊆P^RTCd⊆TdandconvSd∩Esd⊆P^RSCd⊆Sdwhere the setsTdandSdare convex, whileEtdandEsdare two nonconvex sets with empty interior (all these sets depend on the convexification step). The first inclusions allow, in some cases, an explicit characterization (in the space of the original variables) of theRLTrelaxations. Finally, we will discuss weak version of bothRTCandRSChierarchies and we will emphasize some connections between them.
