Abstract:
The increase in Power Electronic (PE) converters due to the increase in offshore wind energy deployment have given rise to technical challenges (e.g., due to unprecedented fast dynamic phenomena) related to voltage and frequency stability in the power system. In the Offshore Wind Farms (OWFs), the currently available current injection-based voltage control for PE converters are not suitable for voltage control in PE dominated systems due to the absence of continuous voltage control and ineffectiveness during islanding. Moreover, in such power systems, the conventional controllers are not suitable for frequency control due to the absence of dynamic frequency control. The paper presents the Direct Voltage Control (DVC) strategy in a real-time environment to mitigate challenges related to voltage and frequency stability during islanding of OWFs. The control strategy is implemented in the average Electro-magnetic Transient (EMT) model of Type-4 Wind Generator (WG) in RSCAD® Version 5.011.1. It is compared with the benchmark model of the control strategy in DIgSILENT PowerFactoryTM 2019 SP2 (×64) in EMT platform. The comparison based on short-term voltage stability and reactive current injection reveals that both the models provide similar results, confirming the validation of the RSCAD model. Moreover, the detailed representation of the converters in the RSCAD model provides a better depiction of the real-world operation.

Abstract:
This paper proposes a decentralized control approach using a co-simulation platform to monitor protective elements and provide complete protection scheme for distribution systems. Real time measurements are obtained by interfacing the system model in RSCAD/RTDS with SEL 421 protective relays and publish/subscribe the voltage and current signals of the buses and transmission lines based on IEC 61850 communication protocol to isolate the fault correctly. The proposed technique helps to identify the location of the fault and introduces primary and buck protection for the system. The communication networks assists in facing cyber and physical threats and finding a new path for healthy relays to remove faults from the system. This technique is investigated on an IEEE 14 bus system for all possible fault locations. The proposed scheme can clear the fault by isolating the minimum part of the system and improving the endurance of the power in it. The system shows the smooth information flow between the cyber and physical parts to isolate faults in it in different cases.

Abstract:
High penetration of wind power plants may have an adverse impact on power systems’ stability by reducing the inertia, and problems like frequency stability could appear due to total inertia in the system being reduced, making the power system more vulnerable to disturbances. However, most recent grid codes include an emulation inertia requirement for wind power plants, because modern wind turbines are capable of providing virtual inertia through power electronic converter controls to improve frequency stability issues. Because of this, it is necessary that the inertia estimation analyze and quantify the impact of the inertia reduction in power systems. In this paper, an implementation of a methodology for the inertia estimation of wind power plants is presented. It is evaluated through synchrophasor measurements obtained from a Real-Time Digital Simulator (RTDS) implementation, using industrial Phasor Measurement Units (PMUs). This methodology is based on the swing equation. Furthermore, a comparison of the results obtained between two professional tools RSCAD and DIgSILENT PowerFactory is performed, in order to evaluate the accuracy and the robustness of the methodology. This methodology is applied for the inertia estimation of an equivalent of the southeast zone of the Mexican power system, where there is a large-scale penetration of wind power plants. The results demonstrate that this methodology can be applied in real power systems using PMUs.

Abstract:
The multi-modular converter (MMC) technology is becoming the preferred option for the increased deployment of variable renewable energy sources (RES) into electrical power systems. MMC is known for its reliability and modularity. The fast adjustment of the MMC’s active/reactive powers, within a few milliseconds, constitutes a major research challenge. The solution to this challenge will allow accelerated integration of RES, without creating undesirable stability issues in the future power system. This paper presents a variant of model predictive control (MPC) for the grid-connected MMC. MPC is defined using a Laguerre function to reduce the computational burden. This is achieved by reducing the number of parameters of the MMC cost function. The feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed MPC is verified in the real-time digital simulations. Additionally, in this paper, a comparison between an accurate mathematical and real-time simulation (RSCAD) model of an MMC is given. The comparison is done on the level of small-signal disturbance and a Mean Absolute Error (MAE). In the MMC, active and reactive power controls, AC voltage control, output current control, and circulating current controls are implemented, both using PI and MPC controllers. The MPC’s performance is tested by the small and large disturbance in active and reactive powers, both in an offline and online simulation. In addition, a sensitivity study is performed for different variables of MPC in the offline simulation. Results obtained in the simulations show good correspondence between mathematical and real-time analytical models during the transient and steady-state conditions with low MAE. The results also indicate the superiority of the proposed MPC with the stable and fast active/reactive power support in real-time simulation.

Abstract:
The existing methods of fault location (FL) on power lines are often unable to provide the required accuracy and are unstable to the influence of metering-distorting factors. The main source of errors of the FL devices is the primary current and voltage transducers. Using innovative current and voltage sensors (including Rogowski coils for physical measurement of the primary current derivative) as part of digital measuring transformers allows significant improvements in the accuracy of measuring electrical values during short-circuits. The aim of the work was to develop an enhanced accuracy FL function as part of an information system (IS) that takes into account the characteristics of non-traditional primary converters and, in general, digital current and voltage transformers. The methods of the electrical circuit theory, mathematical simulation and physical-mathematical modeling are used. The computer experiments are carried out in the modern modeling systems Matlab + Simulink and RSCAD, and the physical and mathematical modeling – in the real-time modeling complex RTDS. For modeling power transmission lines, the specific parameters were assumed to be known and unchanged. The developed FL function differs from its analogs as it uses information signals from digital current and voltage transformers, is characterized by operation stability under the influence of some metering-distorting factors (presence of transient resistance, changes in electrical load, breakdown phase, presence of capacitance of phases to earth, etc.) and an error not exceeding 8 % (at large distances and in the presence of transitional resistance in short-circuit locations) or 3 % (in the absence of metering-distorting factors). A prototype of the IS with the FL function has been designed and experimentally tested. The developed FL function allows increasing the accuracy of short-circuit location determination and reducing the time of finding the fault. Fault location IS data can be used by the operating personnel of electrical networks. The reliability of the obtained results is determined by the methods of the classical electrical circuit theory and the theory of electromagnetic transients in electrical power systems, and by the convergence of the results obtained in the study of the function accuracy in different modeling complexes.

Abstract:
We have shown that short-term exposure of rat small coronary arteries (RSCAs) to high glucose enhances superoxide (O2−·) formation and impairs cAMP-mediated dilation by reducing voltage-gated K+ (Kv) channel function. However, it is not clear whether the impairment also occurs in diabetes mellitus (DM), where alternate mechanisms could mask or aggravate vasodilator dysfunction. RSCAs were isolated from control and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats. Reduced constriction to 4-aminopyridine (4-AP) was observed in RSCAs from DM rats, indicating Kv channel impairment. Forskolin increased 4-AP-inhibitable K+ channel open-state probability and whole cell K+ current density in coronary myocytes from non-DM rats but had little effect on K+ current density in cells from DM rats. Diminished dilation to 8-bromo-cAMP, forskolin, or isoproterenol was observed in DM RSCAs. The attenuated dilation to forskolin or isoproterenol in DM RSCAs was partially restored by application of the superoxide dismutase mimetic manganese[III] tetrakis (4-benzoic acid) porphyrin. Histofluorescence studies using hydroethidine revealed a blockage of O2−· generation by the NADPH oxidase inhibitor apocynin in DM RSCAs. Sepiapterin, a precursor of tetrahydrobiopterin, had little effect on hyperglycemia-induced O2−· formation. Consistent with the findings from the concurrent fluorescence study, apocynin also partially restored the reduced dilator response to forskolin in DM RSCAs. Forskolin-induced cAMP production was unaltered in DM. We conclude that in diabetes, enhanced O2−· formation by activation of NADPH oxidase impairs cAMP-medicated dilation in RSCAs by inhibiting Kv channel activity.

Abstract:
Background. The distinction between right-sided and left-sided colon adenocarcinoma has recently received considerable. This study aims to identify key MicroRNA (miRNA) and mRNAs in right-sided colon adenocarcinoma (RSCOAD) and left-sided colon adenocarcinoma (LSCOAD) by TCGA integration analysis.Methods. The miRNA and mRNA expression profiles of a large group of patients with RSCOAD and LSCOAD were obtained from TCGA. The differentially expressed miRNAs (DEmiRNAs) and mRNAs (DEmRNAs) were identified by TCGA integration analysis. The optimal diagnostic miRNA biomarkers for RSCOAD and LSCOAD were identified by Boruta algorithm. We established classification models to distinguish RSCOAD and LSCOAD. Protein-protein interaction (PPI) network analysis, DEmiRNA-DEmRNA interaction analysis, and functional annotation were performed. The expression of selected DEmiRNAs and DEmRNAs was validated by qRT-PCR.Results. A total of 2534 DEmRNAs (940 downregulated and 1594 upregulated mRNAs) and 54 DEmiRNAs (22 downregulated and 32 upregulated miRNAs) between RSCOAD and LSCOAD were identified. The feature selection procedure was to obtain 22 optimal diagnostic miRNAs biomarkers in RSCOAD compared to LSCOAD. The AUC of the random forests model was 0.869 and the specificity and sensitivity of this model were 79% and 84.6%, respectively. Three DEmiRNAs (hsa-miR-224-5p, hsa-miR-155-5p, and hsa-miR-31-5p) and five DEmRNAs (CXCR4, SMAD4, KRAS, FITM2, and PLAGL2) were identified key DEmiRNAs and DEmRNAs in RSCOAD compared to LSCOAD. The qRT-PCR results of CXCR4, FITM2, TFAP2A, ULBP2, hsa-miR-224-5p, and hsa-miR-155-5p were consistent with our integrated analysis.Conclusion. A total of three DEmiRNAs (hsa-miR-224-5p, hsa-miR-155-5p, and hsa-miR-31-5p) and five DEmRNAs (CXCR4, SMAD4, KRAS, FITM2, and PLAGL2) may be involved in the pathogenesis of RSCOAD and LSCOAD which may make a contribution for understanding mechanisms and developing therapeutic strategies for RSCOAD and LSCOAD.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTObjectiveEarthquakes may lead to a reaction to severe stress and adjustment disorders (RSSAD). On September 7, 19, and 23, 2017, Mexico was struck by many severe earthquakes. The aim of this study was to examine whether there was an increase in the number of consultations and RSSAD in a psychiatric emergency department in Mexico City after these earthquakes.MethodsWe studied retrospectively the diagnosis and triage assessment from a Mexican psychiatric emergency department database from September 1 to November 30, 2017, and analyzed RSSAD and the number of consultations after the earthquakes.ResultsA total of 1,811 psychiatric emergency consultations were registered from the period of study. A total of 141 consultations represented RSSAD. There was a significant increase of RSSAD after the September 23, 2017, earthquake. The triage assessment revealed that the urgency of the consultations was higher immediately after the earthquakes.ConclusionNatural disasters, such as earthquakes, may trigger diverse RSSAD leading to increased emergency consultations, especially when those disasters are repetitive. Mental health professionals should be adequately trained and sensitized for possible acute disaster victims. (Disaster Med Public Health Preparedness. 2019;13:686–690).

Abstract:
The development of interconnected power systems together with an increasing number of renewable non-synchronous power sources, create major challenges for the power system to meet the voltage stability and power quality requirements. One way to increase the voltage stability in a sustainable way is to locally implement a STATCOM. By enhancing grid voltage stability under varying network conditions, the active power transfer capability will increase. However, before a STATCOM can be deployed in the power system, the behavior of it needs tobe investigated for the specific network conditions at the point of interface. The thesis develops a software model in RSCAD of a STATCOM along with important control functions for real-time simulations in RTDS without hardware-in-the-loop. The model aims to be sufficient for representing the gross behavior of a STATCOM in real-time simulations in order to get a quick overview of the dynamic response of the system. The model’s overall performance is evaluated through simulations in RTDS. The results indicate that the main control functions are operating in a stable and sufficient way. Hence, the model can perform in different operation modes as well as handling unbalances that are introduced in the system without losing controllability. There is potential for improvements in order to obtain a model with a more sophisticated control system. The main area would be to introduce limiters and anti-windups at appropriate places as well as a fault-ride-through logic to ensure a safe and stable operation during disturbances.

This research seeks to understand the problem from the return of solid waste from construction to urban environment in large quantities and completely without recovery or treatment. Demonstrates the urgent need for specific policies on the issue of the very serious consequences arising from the lack of planning on disposal of such waste. Notes that the extreme withdrawal of natural resources undoubtedly generates its depletion and environmental degradation arising from irregular depositions of so-called RSSCD (solid waste, construction and demolition) bring unpredictable damage to a risk society. Emphasizes that there must be a balance between economic development and the rational use of the resources of nature in order to avoid these risks and the occurrence of irreversible environmental damage. In this context, the research includes the precautionary principle as important to manage these risks vector, inserting the environmental impact assessment and imposing the benefit of the doubt in favor of the environment when there is any uncertainty regarding the effects of certain activities. Demonstrates that this principle has its foundation in the Law of National Environmental Policy Act ( Law No. 6938 of 31/08/1981 ) , is incorporated in the Environmental Crimes Law ( Law No. 9605 , 1998 ) , has a constitutional " status " ( Article 225 , § 1 , V , of the Constitution of 1988) and is the main guiding environmental policies . From there, learn how to search the city of Goiania stands with the legislation, especially before the Law of National Solid Waste (Law No. 12.305/2010) and currently serves as the management of RSCD, analyzing some solutions already proposed by including private sector, notably in the recycling of such waste. Thus, the work presented as a proposal of understanding and discussion of alternatives to such a relevant issue, demonstrating in the end that is necessary and urgent in Goiania, in relation to the RSCD, the implementation of preventive policies, economic and environmentally sustainable.

Abstract:
The Anthony Nolan Register provides donors for allogeneic stem cell transplantation for haematological disorders. A clinical database and sample bank were established for the ongoing analysis of transplants from Register donors. Clinical data and blood samples were collected from donors and patients transplanted in the UK from 1996 onwards. DNA was extracted from all samples received, and used for the detection of HLA mismatches at six loci (HLA-A, -B, -C, -DRB1, -DQB1, and -DPB1) by RSCA, and HA-1 by SSP. 138 donor/patient pairs were selected for a pilot study. HLA matching between patient and donor, along with the diagnosis of the patient, donor and patient age, CMV status and gender, and the T cell depletion status of the transplant were analysed for their effect on transplant outcome. The outcome variables studied included overall survival, disease free survival, transplant related mortality, relapse incidence, and the occurrence of acute and chronic GvHD. Patients with AML had decreased overall and disease free survival, and patients with CML had increased risk of relapse. Transplant from a same sex donor increased the risk of death or relapse, and male patients receiving stem cells from female donors showed reduced overall survival. Developing acute GvHD increased the risk of transplant related mortality. A mismatch at HLA class I and at class II was associated with unfavourable outcome for all survival variables. The inclusion of HLA-DPB1 matching did not alter the effects seen when other mismatches were present. Matching at the allele level for all loci gave an increased risk of relapse compared with patients mismatched with their donor for HLA-DPB1 only, indicating that a mismatch for HLA-DPB1 alone may protect from relapse. The data from this study was used to calculate the numbers required for a definitive study, for the optimisation of donor selection from the Register.
