Abstract:
The increase in Power Electronic (PE) converters due to the increase in offshore wind energy deployment have given rise to technical challenges (e.g., due to unprecedented fast dynamic phenomena) related to voltage and frequency stability in the power system. In the Offshore Wind Farms (OWFs), the currently available current injection-based voltage control for PE converters are not suitable for voltage control in PE dominated systems due to the absence of continuous voltage control and ineffectiveness during islanding. Moreover, in such power systems, the conventional controllers are not suitable for frequency control due to the absence of dynamic frequency control. The paper presents the Direct Voltage Control (DVC) strategy in a real-time environment to mitigate challenges related to voltage and frequency stability during islanding of OWFs. The control strategy is implemented in the average Electro-magnetic Transient (EMT) model of Type-4 Wind Generator (WG) in RSCAD® Version 5.011.1. It is compared with the benchmark model of the control strategy in DIgSILENT PowerFactoryTM 2019 SP2 (×64) in EMT platform. The comparison based on short-term voltage stability and reactive current injection reveals that both the models provide similar results, confirming the validation of the RSCAD model. Moreover, the detailed representation of the converters in the RSCAD model provides a better depiction of the real-world operation.

Abstract:
Microgrid, an independent power grid, integrate the renewable energy sources like solar energy, wind energy, distributed energy sources like diesel generator, natural generator and energy storages like battery, ultra-capacitors are attracting many researchers across the world due to its high advantages like enhanced local energy delivery, efficiency, reliability, economic growth, etc. The microgrids have a capability to connect and disconnect to the traditional power grid and can operate independently; thus, a microgrid can operate in both grid connected and islanded modes. In this paper, a microgrid with renewable energy sources like solar energy, wind energy, and distributed energy sources like Lithium Ion battery (Li-Ion) energy storage, diesel generator, Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell, with power ratings of 1.8MW, 1MW, 400kW, 2MW, 10kW respectively. The microgrid is modeled and simulated using RSCAD/RTDS. The microgrid is rated a low-level voltage of 415V. The microgrid can be operated in both grid connected and islanded modes of operation. This paper discusses about the operation of microgrid in grid connected mode. In dq frame, a simplified PQ controller is implemented to control and stabilize the real and reactive power flow across the power grid. In 1.8MW solar energy, the PV array output voltage is reduced to 700V with the help of buck converter and then connected to the voltage source converter to convert the DC voltage to AC voltage of 415V. For wind energy of power rating 1MW, the induction generator provides an output voltage of 600V is reduced to 415V with the help of step-down transformer. Next, the Li-Ion battery energy storage of power rating 400kW is connected to the voltage source converter to convert the DC voltage to AC voltage of 415V. The diesel generator is connected to the power grid at 415V. The 11kW Polymer Electrolyte Membrane Fuel Cell (PEMFC) is connected to the voltage source converter to convert the DC voltage from the fuel cell to AC voltage of 415V. Then, the step-up transformer is used to increase the voltage of 415V from the energy sources to 0.48kV to connect to the power grid. A Line-Ground fault is inserted across the power grid and the effect of faults on microgrid is analyzed at various stages of the simulation. In conclusion, the microgrid operation in grid connected mode is analyzed using RSCAD simulation.

Abstract:
This paper proposes a decentralized control approach using a co-simulation platform to monitor protective elements and provide complete protection scheme for distribution systems. Real time measurements are obtained by interfacing the system model in RSCAD/RTDS with SEL 421 protective relays and publish/subscribe the voltage and current signals of the buses and transmission lines based on IEC 61850 communication protocol to isolate the fault correctly. The proposed technique helps to identify the location of the fault and introduces primary and buck protection for the system. The communication networks assists in facing cyber and physical threats and finding a new path for healthy relays to remove faults from the system. This technique is investigated on an IEEE 14 bus system for all possible fault locations. The proposed scheme can clear the fault by isolating the minimum part of the system and improving the endurance of the power in it. The system shows the smooth information flow between the cyber and physical parts to isolate faults in it in different cases.

Abstract:
The load demand to a power grid, as well as the interest in clean and low-cost energy resources, has led to the high integration of wind power plants into power system grids. There are grid code standards that are set for the design and integration of these wind power plants. These codes often look at the design operation of the wind power plant in islanded mode, where possible analysis of the most sensitive power system quantities such as voltage, frequency, reactive power, etc. is carried out. Therefore, in this study, attention was paid to the application of these codes to keep the design and integration of wind power plants well standardized as much as possible. The purpose of this paper is to review and discuss the literature and theory about the design of wind turbine generators and model and simulate a large-scale wind power plant. The modeling was successfully carried out on RSCAD, and the results obtained show that the wind power plant can be further used for other studies such as voltage stability improvement in power grids.

Abstract:
When a lot of surplus power occurs in wind power system, an output limit is implemented to directly or indirectly curtail the output to maintain a balance between the supply and demand of the power system. The curtailment process of a large-scale wind farm causes loss of power and mechanical loads. Resultantly, imbalanced curtailments often occur, resulting in unilateral burdens for the owners of wind farms. Considering the curtailment issue, the study for minimizing system loss of power plants is required in terms of operational efficiency. This paper proposes an algorithm to achieve flexible control during the actual power curtailment process in a wind farm, considering the wake effect. Here, the Monte Carlo method was adopted to calculate the curtailment weight in wind farms by using power loss terms. In addition, an equivalent model of a real wind farm was implemented and simulated through real simulation computer-aided design (RSCAD) software. This paper verified the effectiveness of the proposed method by applying the curtailment communication signal to a real-time digital simulator (RTDS). The results showed a reduction in the computational loading of individual wind turbine curtailment values with the decline of the total effective power loss.

Abstract:

Abstract:
A centralized multiple back-up protection scheme with sharing data between adjacent substations based on IEC 61850 is suggested in this paper to overcome the inherent defects of a conventional back-up protection scheme such as uncertainty of a remote end condition, especially for a distance relay, long operating time delay, and IED/CT fails. A current differential protection element, a distance-based directional protection element, local back-up, and remote back-up protection elements are applied for the multiple back-up protection scheme suggested in this paper. The phasor voltage/current data of the IMU are transferred to a CPCU. In this paper, the IMU has two functions, which are local protection IED and merging unit, as well. The CPCU performs the back-up protection functions by using the phasor voltage/current data collected from other CPCUs located at the adjacent substations. IMU/CT fails are also considered. To verify the back-up protection scheme proposed, a testbed was composed of IMUs (implemented with ADS8688 and TMDSIDK572X), grand-master-clocks (LANTIME M1000-IMS), network switches (Syn 1588 Gbit switch), RTDS, and CPCUs. A target power system was modelled with RSCAD. The results of this research can be expected to provide a practical guide to constructing the future centralized protection for a digital substation.

Abstract:
Due to their weak nature, such as low inertia, offshore energy hubs are prone to unprecedented fast dynamic phenomena. This can lead to undesired instability problems. Recent literature, with main focus on onshore systems, suggests that electrolysers could be an attractive option to support wind generators in the mitigation of balancing problems. This paper presents an Electromagnetic Transient (EMT) model for real-time simulation based study of the dynamics of active power and voltage responses of offshore hubs due to wind speed fluctuations. The purpose of this study was to ascertain the ability of an electrolyser to support an offshore energy hub under different scenarios and with different locations of the electrolyser. Two locations of Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolysers were considered: centralised (at the AC common bus of the hub) or distributed (at the DC link of the wind turbines). Numerical simulations conducted in RSCAD® on a 2 GW offshore hub with 4 × 500 MW wind power plants and 330 or 600 MW PEM electrolysers show that electrolysers can effectively support the mitigation of sudden wind speed variations, irrespective of the location. The distributed location of electrolysers can be beneficial to prevent large spillage of wind power generation during the isolation of faults within the hub.

Abstract:
The development of interconnected power systems together with an increasing number of renewable non-synchronous power sources, create major challenges for the power system to meet the voltage stability and power quality requirements. One way to increase the voltage stability in a sustainable way is to locally implement a STATCOM. By enhancing grid voltage stability under varying network conditions, the active power transfer capability will increase. However, before a STATCOM can be deployed in the power system, the behavior of it needs tobe investigated for the specific network conditions at the point of interface. The thesis develops a software model in RSCAD of a STATCOM along with important control functions for real-time simulations in RTDS without hardware-in-the-loop. The model aims to be sufficient for representing the gross behavior of a STATCOM in real-time simulations in order to get a quick overview of the dynamic response of the system. The model’s overall performance is evaluated through simulations in RTDS. The results indicate that the main control functions are operating in a stable and sufficient way. Hence, the model can perform in different operation modes as well as handling unbalances that are introduced in the system without losing controllability. There is potential for improvements in order to obtain a model with a more sophisticated control system. The main area would be to introduce limiters and anti-windups at appropriate places as well as a fault-ride-through logic to ensure a safe and stable operation during disturbances.

Demonstrates the urgent need for specific policies on the issue of the very serious consequences arising from the lack of planning on disposal of such waste. Notes that the extreme withdrawal of natural resources undoubtedly generates its depletion and environmental degradation arising from irregular depositions of so-called RSSCD (solid waste, construction and demolition) bring unpredictable damage to a risk society. Emphasizes that there must be a balance between economic development and the rational use of the resources of nature in order to avoid these risks and the occurrence of irreversible environmental damage. In this context, the research includes the precautionary principle as important to manage these risks vector, inserting the environmental impact assessment and imposing the benefit of the doubt in favor of the environment when there is any uncertainty regarding the effects of certain activities. Demonstrates that this principle has its foundation in the Law of National Environmental Policy Act ( Law No. 6938 of 31/08/1981 ) , is incorporated in the Environmental Crimes Law ( Law No. 9605 , 1998 ) , has a constitutional " status " ( Article 225 , § 1 , V , of the Constitution of 1988) and is the main guiding environmental policies . From there, learn how to search the city of Goiania stands with the legislation, especially before the Law of National Solid Waste (Law No. 12.305/2010) and currently serves as the management of RSCD, analyzing some solutions already proposed by including private sector, notably in the recycling of such waste. Thus, the work presented as a proposal of understanding and discussion of alternatives to such a relevant issue, demonstrating in the end that is necessary and urgent in Goiania, in relation to the RSCD, the implementation of preventive policies, economic and environmentally sustainable.<br>9 .

Abstract:
The Anthony Nolan Register provides donors for allogeneic stem cell transplantation for haematological disorders. A clinical database and sample bank were established for the ongoing analysis of transplants from Register donors. Clinical data and blood samples were collected from donors and patients transplanted in the UK from 1996 onwards. DNA was extracted from all samples received, and used for the detection of HLA mismatches at six loci (HLA-A, -B, -C, -DRB1, -DQB1, and -DPB1) by RSCA, and HA-1 by SSP. 138 donor/patient pairs were selected for a pilot study. HLA matching between patient and donor, along with the diagnosis of the patient, donor and patient age, CMV status and gender, and the T cell depletion status of the transplant were analysed for their effect on transplant outcome. The outcome variables studied included overall survival, disease free survival, transplant related mortality, relapse incidence, and the occurrence of acute and chronic GvHD. Patients with AML had decreased overall and disease free survival, and patients with CML had increased risk of relapse. Transplant from a same sex donor increased the risk of death or relapse, and male patients receiving stem cells from female donors showed reduced overall survival. Developing acute GvHD increased the risk of transplant related mortality. A mismatch at HLA class I and at class II was associated with unfavourable outcome for all survival variables. The inclusion of HLA-DPB1 matching did not alter the effects seen when other mismatches were present. Matching at the allele level for all loci gave an increased risk of relapse compared with patients mismatched with their donor for HLA-DPB1 only, indicating that a mismatch for HLA-DPB1 alone may protect from relapse. The data from this study was used to calculate the numbers required for a definitive study, for the optimisation of donor selection from the Register.

Abstract:
In 2020, the COVID-19 situation forced academic libraries to move exclusively to the Web. Library closure led to key issues for the scientific community: the unavailability of physical collections, the lack of digitization of paper assets, the inadequacy of catalogues, the absence of information on e-book and electronic resource availability, problems in delivering digital documents to users, and a general lack of competencies in searching and retrieving digital documents. To respond to the COVID-19 emergency in the library field, in April 2020 a group of volunteer librarians under the aegis of IFLA created "Resource Sharing during COVID-19" (RSCVD): the first experiment in free digital resource sharing worldwide. After the success of the RSCVD Project in the face of the COVID emergency, the Erasmus Plus Programme, through the HERMES Project, provided the opportunity to put in place a multifaceted action which can have long-lasting impacts.
