Abstract:
Purpose:To examine the effects of a low-volume repeated-power-ability (RPA) training program on repeated-sprint and changeof-direction (COD) ability and functional jumping performance.Methods:Twenty-two male elite young basketball players (age 16.2 ± 1.2 y, height 190.0 ± 10.0 cm, body mass 82.9 ± 10.1 kg) were randomly assigned either to an RPA-training group (n = 11) or a control group (n = 11). RPA training consisted of leg-press exercise, twice a week for 6 wk, of 1 or 2 blocks of 5 sets × 5 repetitions with 20 s of passive recovery between sets and 3 min between blocks with the load that maximized power output. Before and after training, performance was assessed by a repeated-sprint-ability (RSA) test, a repeated-COD-ability test, a hop for distance, and a drop jump followed by tests of a double unilateral hop with the right and left legs.Results:Within-group and between-groups differences showed substantial improvements in slowest (RSAs) and mean time (RSAm) on RSA; best, slowest and mean time on repeated-COD ability; and unilateral right and left hop in the RPA group in comparison with control. While best time on RSA showed no improvement in any group, there was a large relationship (r = .68, 90% CI .43;.84) between the relative decrement in RSAm and RSAs, suggesting better sprint maintenance with RPA training. The relative improvements in best and mean repeated-COD ability were very largely correlated (r = .89, 90% CI .77;.94).Conclusions:Six weeks of low-volume (4–14 min/wk) RPA training improved several physical-fitness tests in basketball players.

Abstract:
AbstractThe present study aimed to examine the reliability, usefulness, responsiveness, age-related differences and construct validity of a novel decision-making RSA test (RSA-RANDOM test) in young soccer players. Twenty-five young male soccer players performed the RSA-RANDOM test on 2 occasions separated by 5–7 days to assess test-retest reliability and determine a priori usefulness. Furthermore, the same players executed the RSA-RANDOM test 4 times throughout the season to analyse responsiveness. Forty-five players (U–13 to U–17) were evaluated in such test to examine age-related differences. Finally, 9 players were used to determine the construct validity of the test. Reliability scores showed a high intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC=0.88 to 0.90) and low coefficient of variation (CV=1.0–1.2%). The responsiveness of the RSA-RANDOM test was good, as the typical short- (1.2–1.9%), mid- (1.4–2.4%) and long-term (2.3–3.2%) changes in RSA-RANDOM performance were higher than the CV. Age-related differences analysis showed better RSA-RANDOM performance as age increased in young soccer players. Low (r=−0.50) to moderate (r=−0.75) relationships were found between the RSA-RANDOM test variables (RSA best and mean times) with high-intensity and total distance covered, respectively. A novel decision-making RSA test (RSA-RANDOM) has shown to be reliable and valid in young soccer players.

Abstract:
Social and personality psychologists are often interested in the extent to which similarity, agreement, or matching matters. The current article describes response surface analysis (RSA), an approach designed to answer questions about how (mis)matching predictors relate to outcomes while avoiding many of the statistical limitations of alternative, often-used approaches. We explain how RSA provides compressive and often more valid answers to questions about (mis)matching predictors than traditional approaches provide, outline steps on how to use RSA (including modifiable syntax), and demonstrate how to interpret RSA output with an example. To bolster our argument that RSA overcomes many limitations of traditional approaches (i.e., incomplete or misleading inferences), we compare results from four popular approaches (i.e., difference scores, residuals, moderated regression, and the truth and bias model) to those obtained from RSA. We discuss specific applications of RSA to social and personality psychology research.

Abstract:
Background: Rugby league involves repeated, complex, change-of-direction movements, although there are no test protocols that specifically assesses these physical fitness profiles. Thus, the current study examined the convergent validity and reliability of a repeated Illinois Agility (RIA) protocol in adolescent Rugby League players. Methods: Twenty-two junior Rugby League players completed 4 sessions with each separated by 7 days. Initially, physical fitness characteristics at baseline (i.e., multi-stage fitness, countermovement jump, 30-m sprint, single-effort agility and repeated sprint ability [RSA]) were assessed. The second session involved a familiarisation of RIA and repeated T-agility test (RTT) protocols. During the third and fourth sessions, participants completed the RIA and RTT protocols in a randomised, counterbalanced design to examine the validity and test-retest reliability of these protocols. Results: For convergent validity, significant correlations were identified between RIA and RTT performances (r= >0.80; p<0.05). For contributors to RIA performance, significant correlations were identified between all baseline fitness characteristics and RIA (r = >0.71; p < 0.05). Reliability of the RIA protocol was near perfect with excellent intra-class correlation coefficient (0.87-0.97), good ratio limits of agreement (×/÷ 1.05-1.06) and low coefficient of variations (1.77-1.97%). Conclusions: The current study has demonstrated the RIA to be a simple, valid and reliable field test that can provide coaches with information about their athlete’s ability to sustain high intensity, multi-directional running efforts.

Abstract:
An assay was developed to detect the potato spindle tuber viroid (PSTVd), a dangerous plant pathogen that causes crop damage resulting in economic losses in the potato agriculture sector. The assay was based on the reverse transcription and recombinase polymerase amplification (RT-RPA) of PSTVd RNA coupled with amplicon detection via lateral flow assay (LFA). Primers labeled with fluorescein and biotin were designed for RT-RPA for effective recognition of the loop regions in the high-structured circular RNA of PSTVd. The labeled DNA amplicon was detected using lateral flow test strips consisting of a conjugate of gold nanoparticles with antibodies specific to fluorescein and streptavidin in the test zone. The RT-RPA-LFA detected 106 copies of in vitro transcribed PSTVd RNA in reaction or up to 1:107 diluted extracts of infected plant leaves. The assay took 30 min, including the RT-RPA stage and the LFA stage. The testing of healthy and infected potato samples showed full concordance between the developed RT-RPA-LFA and quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and the commercial kit. The obtained results proved the feasibility of using the developed assay to detect PSTVd from a natural source.

Abstract:
This paper follows up the factorization of integers. Factorization is the most popular and used method for RSA cryptoanalysis. The SIQS was chosen as a factorization method that will be used in this paper. Although SIQS is the fastest method (up to 100 digits), it can't be effectively computed at polynomial time, so it's needed to look up for options, how to speed up the method as much as possible. One of the possible ways is paralelization. In this case OpenMP was used. Other possible way is optimalization. The goal of this paper is also to show, how easily is possible to use paralelizion and thanks to detailed analyzation the source codes one can reach relatively large speed up. Used method of iterative optimalization showed itself as a very effective tool. Using this method the implementation of SIQS achieved almost 100 multiplied speed up and at some parts of the code even more.

Abstract:
Molecular biologists have been observing interactions between messenger RNA (mRNA) molecules and other non-coding RNA molecules for quite some time. Here I revisit some of the classical hybridizations between the 16S ribosomal RNA (rRNA) and mRNA during initiation, as well as investigate the interactions between small interfering RNA (siRNA) molecules and mRNA. In reviewing rRNA-mRNA interactions, I observed that the majority of both bacterial and eukaryote genes can bind at the start codon. This novel result lead to a method for improving genome annotation as well as a new theory of translation initiation. The examination of siRNA-mRNA interactions lead to new criteria for predicting an siRNA's efficacy.

Abstract:

In this essay I shall explore the various pertinent components of the test for criminal negligence paying particular attention to the issues raised above, namely, the pure objective test, the notion of the reasonable man, the relative objective test, circumstances external to the actor, and the subjective test. In doing so I shall critically consult and review the writings of various South African writers on the topic as well as the courts' handling of the test and its attendant practical and theoretical difficulties. For the sake of completeness and clarity certain other closely related issues will be explored, namely, whether the test for negligent delictual liability is applicable in criminal law, and the distinction between and nature of unlawfulness and mens rea in negligence crimes. These latter issues, which will not be developed as fully, serve as a necessary component of any discussion on the central question in this essay, namely, the justness and fairness of determining criminal negligence by means of the objective reasonable man test.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The import of yeast tRNALys (tRK1) into human mitochondria in the presence of cytosolic extract suggests that human cell possesses machinery for tRK1 import. Here, we show that precursor of mitochondrial lysyl-tRNA synthetase (preKARS2) interact with tRK1 and its derivatives containing tRK1 import determinants, and facilitates their import into isolated mitochondria and in vivo, when preKARS2 was overexpressed or downregulated. tRK1 import efficiency increased upon addition of glycolytic enzyme enolase, previously found as an actor of RNA import in yeast. We found that tRK1 and its derivatives translocate into mitochondrial matrix in polynucleotide phosphorylase (PNPase) dependent manner. Furthermore, a point mutation preventing trimerization of PNPase affect import of 5S rRNA and MRP RNA into mitochondria and subsequently mitochondrial translation. Overexpression of the wild-type PNPase induced an increase of 5S rRNA import into mitochondria and rescued translation.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Response surface method (RSM) is widely used in structural reliability analysis with implicit performance function (PF) which requires formidable computational effort. The ill conditioned coefficient matrix of normal equation in classical RSM prevents it from being used in high order conditions. The stochastic response surface method (SRSM), deriving from classical RSM, offers one alternative to solve this problem. Yet the regression method of conventional SRSM is based on normal least square method which ignores the different significance of each sample point through which the response surface function (RSF) is formed. To yield RSF close to the limit state which leads to better estimation of probability of failure, this paper introduces the weighted regression into SRSM and several examples with hypothetic explicit PF are given to test the performance of SRSM. In addition, we use this method in the fatigue reliability analysis of crankshaft with implicit PF. All these examples demonstrate the advantages of the proposed method.

In 2016 24th International Conference on Nuclear Engineering. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2016. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/icone24-60983.

Full text
Abstract:
Monitoring changes in important parameters has been suggested as a potentially useful condition monitoring (CM) method for the accidents occurred in nuclear power plants (NPPs). The reactor core power is believed to be an important parameter governing the performance of reactor during transient response. The accurate prediction of reactor behavior and power is very important for nuclear power plant operators, especially during the major severe accident scenarios following an initiating event such as rod ejection accident (REA) or rod drop accident (RDA). REA and RDA together are found to be the worst postulated power transients in reactor licensing and are referred to as reactivity-initiated accidents (RIAs). RIAs is a postulated event of very low probability and involves inadvertent removal of a control element from an operating reactor, leading to a rapid power excursion in nearby fuel elements. On the basis of our previous work, in which only REA scenario is analyzed, the primary objective of this study is to develop and implement fuzzy weighted support vector regression (FWSVR) for condition monitoring under REA and RDA in NPPs. FWSVR is an extension of support vector regression (SVR) which introduces fuzzy weights in traditional SVR formulation. The accidents simulated in this study are based on the same model used in our previous work. This model can be accomplished by two procedures. First, the neutron flux and enthalpy distributions of the core can be obtained from a solution to the three-dimensional nodal space time kinetics equations and energy equations for both single and two-phase flows respectively. Second, the reactivity effects of the moderator temperature, boron concentration, fuel temperature, coolant void, xenon worth, samarium worth, control element positions (CEAs) and core burnup status can be calculated and determined. For the purpose of condition monitoring, it’s a fundamental issue to acquire condition monitoring data for useful data representation. Otherwise, it’s hard to predict the power accurately if enough data is not available. The data used in this study is collected from computer generated accident scenarios. Then the obtained data is split into two subgroups, training and test. The training subgroup data is utilized to train the FWSVR model and the fuzzy weights introduced in FWSVR are employed to extract multiple linear structures in a training dataset and assign to each data point a cluster index determined by its trained kernel radius function. The test is employed to validate the model. Finally the results of FWSVR model are compared with that of other models such as traditional SVR and back propagation network (BPN) which is one type of artificial neural networks (ANNs). Comparison of results among the three methods indicates that FWSVR model not only outperforms traditional SVR and BPN, but also has a better agreement with the general understanding than them.
