Abstract:
The extremal elements of the unit balls of Banach spaces play an important role in the study of the geometry of the space as well as in various applications. For Banach spaces of Lipschitz real functions the extremal elements of the unit ball are investigated in numerous papers (S. Cobzas 1989, J. D. Farmer 1994, N. V. Rao and A. C. Roy 1970, Roy 1968 and in the references therein). In this note we shall present a procedure to obtain extremal elements of the unit ball of the quasi-normed semilinear space of real-valued semi-Lipschitz functions defined on a quasi-metric space.

Abstract:
What is conventionalism in philosophy of science? Basically, it is a thesis about empirical underdetermination. According to Conventionalists, there is “a slack” between our theories and experience that is to be “lined” with conventions. As the experience does not “impose” any theory, scientists are always free to choose a theory on “softer” non-evidential grounds when facing empirical underdetermination. “Conventionalism is a philosophy of freedom,” as Édouard Le Roy put it. Yet the thing to remember is that there is no such a thing as the conventionalism. Reasons for empirical underdetermination that Conventionalists state are not always the same, hence it is more convenient to talk about varieties of conventionalism. The present paper is an attempt to sketch a line between two basic variants of conventionalism which are instrumentalism and constructivism.

Abstract:
Glioblastoma (GB) is the most malignant form of primary astrocytoma, accounting for more than 60% of all brain tumors in adults. Nowadays, due to the development of multidrug resistance causing relapses to the current treatments and the development of severe side effects resulting in reduced survival rates, new therapeutic approaches are needed. The genus Plectranthus belongs to the Lamiaceae family and is known to be rich in abietane-type diterpenes, which possess antitumor activity. Specifically, P. hadiensis (Forssk.) Schweinf. ex Sprenger has been documented for the use against brain tumors. Therefore, the aim of this work was to perform the bioguided isolation of compounds from the acetonic extract of P. hadiensis stems and to investigate the in vitro antiglioblastoma activity of the extract and its isolated constituents. After extraction, six fractions were obtained from the acetonic extract of P. hadiensis stems. In a preliminary biological screening, the fractions V and III showed the highest antioxidant and antimicrobial activities. None of the fractions were toxic in the Artemia salina assay. We obtained different abietane-type diterpenes such as 7α-acetoxy-6β-hydroxyroyleanone (Roy) and 6β,7β-dihydroxyroyleanone (DiRoy), which was also in agreement with the HPLC-DAD profile of the extract. Furthermore, the antiproliferative activity was assessed in a glioma tumor cell line panel by the Alamar blue assay. After 48 h treatment, Roy exerted strong antiproliferative/cytotoxic effects against tumor cells with low IC50 values among the different cell lines. Finally, we synthesized a new fluorescence derivative in this study to evaluate the biodistribution of Roy. The uptake of BODIPY-7α-acetoxy-6β-hydroxyroyleanone by GB cells was associated with increased intracellular fluorescence, supporting the antiproliferative effects of Roy. In conclusion, Roy is a promising natural compound that may serve as a lead compound for further derivatization to develop future therapeutic strategies against GB.

Abstract:
As indicated by the title, this book steers away from traditional, atheoretical, praxis-oriented frameworks for studying interpreting. Its strength lies in its call for research that describes interpreted events as a means of moving away from prescriptive approaches to the discipline. The book discusses Roy's own application of discourse theory in her analysis of a videotaped interpreted event. The languages represented in that event are American Sign Language (ASL) and English, but the conclusions and recommendations made by the author are equally relevant to both signed and spoken language researchers, interpreters, interpreter trainers, and interpreters in training. Drawing on research in interactional sociolinguistics, Conversation Analysis, and ethnography of communication, Roy provides a rich description and analysis of a 30-minute meeting between a deaf student and a professor at a U.S. university. Through her analysis, Roy challenges the belief that interpreters serve as a conduit providing direct interaction between primary interlocutors.

Using a method introduced by [M. T. Barlow and R. F. Bass, On the resistance of the Sierpiński carpet, Proc. Roy. Soc. Lond. Ser. A 431 (1990), no. 1882, 345–360], we prove a resistance estimate of the following form: there is ρ = ρ ⁢ ( N ) > 1 {\rho=\rho(N)>1} such that ℰ ⁢ ( u n , u n ) ⁢ ρ n {\mathcal{E}(u_{n},u_{n})\rho^{n}} is bounded above and below by constants independent of n. Such estimates have implications for the existence and scaling properties of Brownian motion on F.

Abstract:
Abstract The amino acid sequence corresponding to the V region H chain gene used by three monoclonal IgM directed to the myelin-associated glycoprotein (MAG) is presented. They all belonged to the VHIII variability subgroup, but each may well represent a new member of this family inasmuch as their homology with previously sequenced VHIII genes was less than 80%. Strikingly, there was no greater homology between the H chain V regions of the anti-MAG IgM. Partial amino acid sequence data indicated that these V regions were joined to as yet unidentified DH segments; however, two H chains used very similar DH, possibly indicating that this sequence was involved in the fine specificity of the IgM for MAG. All H chains included a JHIV region. These data, together with results obtained from the sequence of the three kappa L chains of the same IgM molecules (Mihaesco, E., H. Ayadi, N. Congy, M. C. Gendron, J. P. Roy, H. Heyermann, B. Frangione, and J. C. Brouet. 1989. J. Biol. Chem. 264:21481), indicate that the repertoire of VL and VH gene segments used by anti-MAG IgM is quite diverse, in contrast to previous structural data obtained for other human monoclonal IgM autoantibodies. Possibly, these differences reflect distinct pathogenesis.

Since the subcritical perturbation does not satisfy the (AR) condition, the standard variational method cannot be used directly. Combining the change of variables and the monotone method developed by Jeanjean in [L. Abstract:
The inclined sheet is an important model for interpreting self‐potential (SP) anomalies over elongated ore deposits. Many techniques (Roy and Chowdhurry, 1959; Meiser, 1962; Paul, 1965; Atchuta Rao et al., 1982; Atchuta Rao and Ram Babu, 1983; Murty and Haricharan, 1985) have been proposed for interpreting SP anomalies over this model. We propose a simple graphical procedure for locating the upper and lower edges of an inclined sheet of infinite strike extent from its SP anomaly V(x) using a few characteristics points including [Formula: see text] [Formula: see text], and [Formula: see text] The amplitude ratio [Formula: see text], is shown to vary with θ, the dip of the sheet, making it possible to estimate θ. The two edges of the sheet are equidistant from the abscissa of [Formula: see text] the zero potential point. The sheet, when extrapolated onto the line of observation, meets the x‐axis at a point where [Formula: see text] From these characteristic features of V(x), the sheet can be located easily using the simple geometrical construction presented below.

Abstract:
After a brief introduction to the field of empirical performance studies and its goals and methods, recordings of the titular work by pianists Harold Bauer, Glenn Gould, and Angela Hewitt are discussed. It is suggested that these recordings demonstrate three distinct performance strategies for the piece: Bauer highlights the boundaries of each phrase and projects a teleological design within each phrase and at the level of the entire piece; Gould conveys an arch-shaped design tied to harmonic tension; and Hewitt draws attention not only to the three structural cadences (mm. 7, 15, and 22) but also to a subsidiary V-I motion at m. 11, thereby hinting that it might have structural importance. Parallels between these performance strategies and analyses by Howard Cinnamon, Steve Larson, and Roy Travis are briefly considered. The emphasis on multiplicity in this study distinguishes it from most earlier scholarship on structure and performance.

Abstract:
Oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) plays a key role in the development of fuel cell technology, and great efforts have been made to reduce the amount of platinum, required to speed up this sluggish reaction, or, even more desirable, to use efficient electrocatalysts based on earth-abundant metals. To date, numerous single-atom catalysts in the form of metal-doped carbon-nitrogen materials (MNC) have proved to be a promising alternative to ORR Pt-based materials. [1-3] In this study we employed advanced spectroscopic techniques, namely Mössbauer spectroscopy and operando X-ray absorption (XAS) spectroscopy, to understand the structural and electronic factors underlying an increase in the catalytic turn over frequency (TOF) of bimetallic FeSnNC and FeCoNC catalysts, relative to the parent FeNC materials. In particular, 57Fe Mössbauer spectroscopy identified a larger ratio of D1/D2 species in both bimetallic catalysts, supporting a larger ratio of Fe(III)-Nx/Fe(II)-Nx sites. The combination of extended X-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) modeling, and the analysis of operando X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy (XANES) spectra revealed a disordered carbon structure around FeNx active sites, and variations in the iron oxidation state that can be linked to the enhanced intrinsic catalytic reactivity (TOF). This talk is therefore intended to draw attention to the potential of the XAS technique, especially when applied to in-situ/operando studies in the field of electrocatalysis. References F. Luo, A. Abstract:
BRITISH commercial law scholars, of whom Prof. Roy Goode and Prof. Aubrey Diamond are two conspicuous examples, have long been attracted to the possibility of using Article 9 of the American Uniform Commercial Code as a basis for modernising and restructuring the English law of chattel security. As readers of Part V of the Crowther Report1 will know, this was the road to reform which the Crowther Committee recommended to the British government as long ago as 1971. In the course of his eighth Crowther Memorial Lecture, given at Queen Mary College in 1983,2 Prof. Goode expressed the hope that before the end of the decade England and Wales would enact the recommendations in the Crowther Report. We know now that he was too sanguine but our hopes were revived when Prof. Diamond submitted his lucid, and in the view of this writer and many others, highly persuasive recommendations to the Department of Trade and Industry in 1989.3

Abstract:
We consider a system of reaction-diffusion equations describing combustion dynamics. The reaction is assumed to undergo two competitive reactions, one which is exothermic and one which is endothermic. The one-dimensional model has been shown to exhibit complex behaviour, from propagating combustion waves with a constant speed to period doubling cascades and the possibility of chaotic wave speeds. In this study, we extend the combustion model from one to two dimensions by exploring a model of an insulated strip with no heat loss and axially symmetric spread. In particular, we compare and contrast the behaviour of the systems in one and two dimensions. References J. D. Buckmaster and G. S. S. Ludford. Theory of Laminar Flames. ELIUs parent company in Germany had implemented Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) solutions to enhance its effectiveness and had offered ELIL some licences free of cost. Mr S Rajaram, Vice President (Operations) of ELIL, though excited about the possibility of adopting ERP solutions is also concerned about implementation issues. They are: inadequate computing infrastructure, need for substantial investment, need to improve process orientation, data discipline, the prevailing organizational culture, and the high rate of failure in ERP implementation. Considering that he has to make a recommendation to the Board on ERP implementation, he is wondering whether ELIL is prepared for this change.

Abstract:
Steels play a vital role in every aspect of day-to-day life. They are major components in construction, transportation, medicine, and etc. Despite their larger usability, steels are suffering from inevitable corrosion. Hence, finding a sustainable solution for corrosion has been a hot topic in the research field for centuries. One extensively studied strategy is applying a protective layer on top of metals. The recent findings show that N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) has the potency to form a carbon-metal bond through self-assembling1 or electrochemical deposition2 on different metals such as Au, Pt, Pd, and Ag. Herein, we are trying to coat NHC on mild steel (MS) through electrochemical deposition to act as a corrosion protective layer. Deposition conditions will be optimized by varying the material concentrations, applied voltages, time durations, and substrate roughness. The NHC-coated surface is characterized by X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS), Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization (MALDI), and Atomic Force Microscope-Infrared Spectroscopy (AFM-IR). In addition, the contact angle measurements can be attributed to visualizing the differences in coatings under different conditions. The corrosion studies are utilized to understand the corrosion-resistant properties of the NHC coating. Moreover, the NHC moiety can be modified to perform better to inhibit corrosion and improve the properties of mild steel on their applications. Ultimately, this benchtop approach will be utilized and tested on a large scale and industrial level. (1) Crudden, C. M.; Horton, J. H.; Ebralidze, I. I.; Zenkina, O. V.; McLean, A. Abstract:
We investigate the effect that oscillating ambient temperatures have on the ignition times of supercritical stockpiles. Large stockpiles are exposed to seasonal and diurnal temperature variation. We analyse the effects of seasonal temperature variation. When considering ignition within a year of construction, stockpiles built in spring ignited with a lower critical parameter than those built at other times. Consequently, seasonal temperature variation needs to be accounted for when predicting stockpile ignition times. References P. C. Bowes. Self-heating: evaluating and controlling the hazards. Abstract:
The morphological evolution of the conducting filament (CF) predominantly controls the electric response of the resistive random access memory (ReRAM) devices. However, the parameters—in terms of the material and the processing—which control the growth of such CF are plenty. Extending the phase field technique for ReRAM systems presented by Roy and Cha [J. Appl. Phys. 128, 205102 (2020)], we could successfully model the complete SET (to attain low resistance state) and RESET (to attain high resistance state) processes due to the application of sweeping voltage. The key parameters that influence the stability of the multi-cycle I-V response or the endurance behavior are identified. The computational findings of the presented model ReRAM system are practical in correlating the multi-parametric influence with the stability, variability, and reliability of the endurance cycle that affect the device performance and also lead to the device failure. We believe that our computational approach of connecting the morphological changes of the CF with the electrical response has the potential to further understand and optimize the performance of the ReRAM devices.

Abstract:
Human activities must not develop spontaneously being driven by its own internal logics and they should be regulated in a certain manner since they appear to be a limited aggregate of material and natural conditions. The prominent mathematician and physicist N.N. Moiseyev believed that «coevolution of human society and biosphere – within the common meaning of this word combination, - is practically a synonym of the term noosphere introduced by V. I. Vernadsky, E. Le Roy» [1, p.142.] It is highlighted in the Copenhagen Declaration (7 December, 2009) of the International Union of Architects that ‘the concept of the project sustainability” accepts all the architectural and city planning objects as a part of a complex interactive system related to its natural environment» [2]. Therefore sustainable urban development depends directly on city planning activities. Capital construction must be in harmony with consequent formation of noosphere with due regard to socially viable management of natural and anthropologic processes and relations development. A number of scientific criteria are suggested to secure socially significant capital construction management on the grounds of the theory of the noosphere genesis.

Abstract:
Li-ion batteries achieved in the last 3 decades extremely high energy densities, making them the energy storage devices of choice for the electrification of our society. Despite this improvement, their energy density is still low as compared to gasoline, motivating further research towards materials with better performances. State of the art positive electrodes are nowadays layered materials with a ratio Li:M of 1:1, with M being one or multiple transition metals. Disordered rock salt (DRX) materials without a layered structure were thought to be electrochemically inactive. With the development of the percolation theory, 1(Urban, Lee, and Ceder) it was demonstrated that lithium-rich materials (Li:M>1) with a cation disordered rock-salt structure (DRX) can achieve high reversible specific capacities. The general formula of these lithium-rich compounds can be written Li1+y(MM′)1−yO2 where the Li content ranges usually from 1.05 to 1.33, essential to promote Li percolation pathways. With M is indicated a redox active specie (Mn, Ni, Fe, Cr, V) and M’ is typically a d0 element, which is redox inactive during charge and discharge and therefore stabilizes the disordered structure and acting as charge compensator.2 (Chen, Ahn, and Chen) In this work a class of Li-rich compounds with the chemical composition Li2yNiyTi2-3yO2 has been investigated (y = 0.50, 0.55, 0.60, 0.67). These samples were prepared via solid-state reaction at three different temperatures (700 °C, 800 °C, 900 °C). X-ray diffraction has been used to determine the crystal structure of the samples, revealing a predominant rock salt-type phase. However, by decreasing the synthesis temperature and increasing the Li content, phase separation occurs into a rock salt-type and a Li2TiO3 phase. The synthesis has been also verified by DFT and by in situ X-ray diffraction. Neutron diffraction experiment have been carried out to fully understand the cationic distribution in the samples. Finally, the electrochemical performances of the samples have been investigated in Li half cells, revealing a strong voltage hysteresis between charge and discharge.3 (Li et al.) ABSTRACT Bite injuries tend to be among the most typical forms of trauma to which man is exposed. Contamination is actually the most frequent problem in animal attack injuries. The surgical approach regarding facial bite injuries continues to be debatable. The controversy persists in the ideal time to do the wound debridement together with initial wound suturing as well as the use of antibiotic prophylaxis. On the contrary, human attacks are likely to be unnoticed with regard to making an evaluation within any casualty room. They can be especially notorious owing to the polymicrobial character associated with human saliva inoculated within the injury as well as the threat that they will present with for transmission of contagious health conditions. Prompt treatment plan, most appropriate prophylaxis in addition to precise evaluation are definitely critical for attaining desired results. After the publication of Salman Rushdie’s second novel Midnight’s Children (1980), there is an emergence of New Fiction marking the beginning of New Era in the history of Indian Writing in English. A large number of novelists living in India and abroad write fiction in great number and thereby breaking the stigma of the marginalization of Indian English Fiction. They introduce various components of modern theories regarding the composition of the fiction. They also prove their superiority over their western counterparts by achieving remarkable recognition on international platforms and by winning various coveted awards like Booker Prize, Pulitzer Prize and even Nobel Prize by V S Naipaul. These Indian English writers include Amitav Ghosh, Vikram Seth, Arundhati Roy, Jhumpa Lahiri, Anita Desai, Kiran Desai, Pankaj Mishra, Chetan Bhagat, Rohintan Mistry, Arvind Adiga, Shashi Tharoor and many more. The New novelists of the 21st century handle the themes of globalization, Political reality and cross-culturalism more effectively and brilliantly. In the present paper the focus will be on the assessment of emergence of New Fiction with its various traitsand contribution of Salman Rushdie in Indian English Fiction in the development of New Novel.

Abstract:
Talmadge, Robert J., Roland R. Roy, and V. Reggie Edgerton.Distribution of myosin heavy chain isoforms in non-weight-bearing rat soleus muscle fibers. J. Appl. Physiol. 81(6): 2540–2546, 1996.—The effects of 14 days of spaceflight (SF) or hindlimb suspension (HS) (Cosmos 2044) on myosin heavy chain (MHC) isoform content of the rat soleus muscle and single muscle fibers were determined. On the basis of electrophoretic analyses, there was a de novo synthesis of type IIx MHC but no change in either type I or IIa MHC isoform proportions after either SF or HS compared with controls. The percentage of fibers containing only type I MHC decreased by 26 and 23%, and the percentage of fibers with multiple MHCs increased from 6% in controls to 32% in HS and 34% in SF rats. Type IIx MHC was always found in combination with another MHC or combination of MHCs; i.e., no fibers contained type IIx MHC exclusively. These data suggest that the expression of the normal complement of MHC isoforms in the adult rat soleus muscle is dependent, in part, on normal weight bearing and that the absence of weight bearing induces a shift toward type IIx MHC protein expression in the preexisting type I and IIa fibers of the soleus.
