Abstract:
Wireless mesh network (WMN) operates both in infrastructure and ad-hoc mode. It provides extended network coverage based on heterogeneous wireless technologies through multi-hop communications. In WMNs, the routing mechanisms and network organization need to be improved so that optimal path discovery or different protocols adaptability can be achieved. Hybrid routing is a demanding issue to be discussed these days as need of higher mobility management in the diverse situations and environments. It's required to improve the older schemes for higher data rate and minimum energy consumptions. The proposed work presents a design of a novel routing algorithm for optimal route discovery, congestion reduction, dynamic route selection and scalability in hybrid mesh networks. The authors have focused on Hybrid Routing Protocols to originate a novel routing scheme based on AODV (Ad hoc On-Demand Distance Vector routing protocol) in Ad-Hoc level with clustering scheme and DSDV (Destination Sequence Distance Vector) as proactive routing protocol in Backbone Mesh Router Level to form a new hybrid routing protocol. In this work a Novel Hybrid Distance Vector (NHDV) routing protocol algorithm has been introduced, which is the combination of DSDV (Destination Sequence Distance Vector) and AODV routing protocols. A clustering scheme with the combination of two efficient clustering schemes for Ad-hoc mesh client levels is discussed in detail and a performance metric for DSDV is also discussed which ETX (Expected Transmission Count) is for measuring packet loss ratio at each link for higher throughput. A new performance metric introduced in AODV as Mesh Router Count is used to improve the performance of communication to the Mesh Routers. The proposed work is the design of new algorithm that presents an optimal solution in bringing out a revolutionary change to Hybrid Routing.

Abstract:
WMN (wireless mesh network) is a useful wireless multihop network with tremendous research value. The routing strategy decides the performance of network and the quality of transmission. A good routing algorithm will use the whole bandwidth of network and assure the quality of service of traffic. Since the routing metric ETX (expected transmission count) does not assure good quality of wireless links, to improve the routing performance, an opportunistic routing mechanism combined with long-term and short-term metrics for WMN based on OLSR (optimized link state routing) and ETX is proposed in this paper. This mechanism always chooses the highest throughput links to improve the performance of routing over WMN and then reduces the energy consumption of mesh routers. The simulations and analyses show that the opportunistic routing mechanism is better than the mechanism with the metric of ETX.

In order to satisfy the data transmission in the wireless sensor multimedia network of several QoS constraints. This paper proposes a real-time and low energy consumption routing protocol on the basis of MMSPEED, This agreement inherits the advantages of MMSPEED protocol, multipath and priority classification data transmission. And at the same time, in the routing decisions this paper chooses fragmentary active routing decisions, further energy consumption and transmission delay reduction. The simulation results indicate that in the random node distribution, the agreement in real-time and prolong the network survival cycle, etc, have a good performance.

Abstract:
Secure routing is considered as one of a key challenge in mesh networks because of its dynamic and broadcasting nature. The broadcasting nature of mesh environment invites number of security vulnerabilities to come and affect the network metrics drastically. Further, any node/link failure of a routed path may reduce the performance of the entire network. A number of secure routing protocols have been proposed by different researchers but enhancement of a single network parameter (i.e. security) may affect another performance metrics significantly i.e. throughput, end to end delay, packet delivery ratio etc. In order to ensure secure routing with improved network metrics, a Secure Buffer based Routing Protocol i.e. SBRP is proposed which ensures better network performance with increased level of security. SBRP protocol uses buffers at alternate positions to fasten re-routing mechanism during node/link failure and ensures the security using AES encryption. Further the protocol is analyzed against mAODV protocol in both static and dynamic environment in terms of security, packet delivery ratio, end to end delay and network throughput.

Abstract:
As a promising communication technology for smart grid system, Fiber-Wireless (FiWi) broadband access network integrating wireless and optical access technologies, is becoming a promising “last mile” access technology. As the front-end of FiWi broadband access network, Wireless Mesh Network (WMN) has the features of high transmission rate, wide coverage and low cost of networking, etc, which can make FiWi broadband access network have the advantages of self-healing, self-configuring and flexibility. As one of the key technologies in WMN, wireless routing protocols play an important role in the performance optimization of WMN, which directly influence FiWi broadband access network. Thus, this paper mainly studies the routing protocols in WMN based on OPNET network simulation platform. By simulation and analysis, this paper shows that Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing protocol has low data dropped and good performance in network delay. Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) protocol has low network load. Meanwhile, Optimized Link State Routing (OLSR) protocol has high network throughput.

Abstract:
In recent years, the static shortest path (SP) routing problem has been well addressed using intelligent optimization techniques, e.g., artificial neural networks (ANNs), genetic algorithms (GAs), particle swarm optimization (PSO), etc. However, with the advancement in wireless communications, more and more mobile wireless networks appear, e.g., mobile ad hoc network (MANET), wireless mesh network (WMN), etc. One of the most important characteristics in mobile wireless networks is the topology dynamics, that is, the network topology changes over time due to energy conservation or node mobility. Therefore, the SP routing problem in MANETs turns out to be a dynamic optimization problem. This paper proposes to use two types of hyper-mutation GAs to solve the dynamic SP routing problem in MANETs. The authors consider MANETs as target systems because they represent new generation wireless networks. The experimental results show that the two hyper-mutation GAs can quickly adapt to the environmental changes (i.e., the network topology change) and produce good solutions after each change.

Abstract:
Wireless mesh networks (WMNs) contain both i.e mesh router and clients, where backbone of WMNs is mesh router due to immaterial portability. They give orchestrate access to both work and customary clients. In a WMN, it is feasible to accomplish an IGW or any Mesh Routers via various paths. Anyway this may prompt an unwanted circumstance, in which the most ideal ways may degenerate on account of the disbalancing of burden, subsequently bringing about problematic execution. To avoid this problem, we propose coordinate based multi-way routing protocol, which knows about area of its neighbors for an Infrastructural WMN. The principal thought is on the examination of directing estimation with speedy route revelation, as possible least hopes, least delays, most outrageous information rates and least possible defect-rates. Reproduction outcome, demonstrate that our introduced method estimation is preferable than current lattice, ETX and ETT metric employed in directing

Abstract:
In the today’s’ era of communication technology disaster management plays important role in life saving. Regardless of men made disasters or natural disasters proper communication network can be used to exchange information. In natural calamities wireless sensor mesh network proved to be as good option for communication. Low-altitude Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) which is associated with WLAN Mesh Networks (WMNs) can be used in disaster management areas. The advantage of it is it can be installed on demand and it can use for efficient exploration of sized areas. The WMN is consisting of different components such as mesh clients, mesh routers and base station. It is more prone to have attacks of different types such as Denial of Service attack, black hole, gray hole , reply attack, Sybil attack etc. The most important attack which can damage whole working of WMN is routing attack. IEEE 802.11i is used as standard protocol for security in WLAN and IEEE 802.11s is used as secure algorithm for communication in WLAN mesh network. But both of them fail to address issue of routing problem in WLAN mesh network. The primary purpose of this paper is to outline routing algorithm and to design assured routing protocol. In this paper we have proposed improved secure Position-Aware, Secure, and Efficient mesh Routing approach (S-PASER). The proposed mechanisms have obviated more attack than regular IEEE 802.11s/i security mechanism and well known, secure routing protocol. The proposed methodology can be implemented on omnet++ simulator. The simulation results proved to be have better performance and throughput than existing algorithm.

Abstract:
In the past few years Wireless Mesh Networks (WMNs) have developed as a promising technology to provide flexible and low-cost broadband network services. The Expected Transmission Count (ETX) routing metric has been put forward recently as an advanced routing metric to provide high QoS for static WMNs. Most previous research in this area suggests that ETX outperforms other routing metrics in throughput and efficiency. However, it has been determined that ETX is not immune to load sensitivity and route oscillations in a single radio environment. Route oscillations refer to the situation where packet transmission switches between two or more routes due to congestion. This has the effect of degrading performance of the network, as the routing protocol may select a non optimal path. In this thesis we avoided the route oscillation problem by forcing data transmission on fixed routes. This can be implemented in the AODV (Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector) protocol by disabling both error messages and periodic updating messages (the HELLO scheme). However, a critical factor for our approach is that ETX must determine a high quality initial route in AODV. This thesis investigates whether the ETX metric improves initial route selection in AODV compared to the HOPS metric in two representative client-server applications: the Traffic Control Network (TCN) and the Video Stream (VS) network. We evaluate the ETX and HOPS metrics in a range of scenarios which possess different link qualities and different traffic loads. We find the ETX metric greatly improves initial route selection in AODV compared to the HOPS in the network in which only single flow exists. For networks in which there are multiple simultaneous flows, ETX behaves similar to HOPS in initial route selection. Based on these results, we find the solution of route stabilization to route oscillations in the context of ETX is only useful in the single flow case. To address this problem, we propose a modified solution of repeatedly broadcasting RREQ (Route Request) packets. Simulation results show that our modified solution allows ETX to be useful in the initial route selection in both single flow and multiple simultaneous flows cases.

Abstract:
Due to suppression of central administration in WMN, network functioning like network controls, management, routing, switching, packet forwarding etc. are distributed among nodes, either collectively or individually. So, cooperation among nodes is highly solicited. However, there may exist node's malicious activities because of its open characteristics and limited available battery power. The nodes may misbehave by refusing to provide service or dropping down the packets because of its selfishness and malicious activity. The identification of misbehaving nodes and prevention from them can be one of the biggest challenges. Hence, the prime target of the chapter is to provide an overview of existing intrusion detection and prevention approaches, and secure routing or framework that can recognize and prevent from the malicious activities. The digital signature-based IDS to offer secure acknowledgment and an authentication mechanism has also been discussed. The expectation is the digital signature-based IDS will overcome the weakness of existing IDS.
