Abstract:
Foots Cray Place (ca. 1754-60) is one of the four noted English villas based on Palladio's Villa Rotonda. Attributions of the design of the villa thus far have been on weak grounds and inconclusive. The discovery of a letter of Matthew Brettingham the Younger and four drawings permit an attribution to Brettingham, who, despite some recognition, has only one remodeling of a country house to his name. Further consideration of the Anglo-Palladian rotondas sustains a more general argument: in moving away from the ideal rigor of the Villa Rotonda, the English houses privilege perception over conception and incorporate the quotidian aspect of the sacred/domestic spectrum. Within the strict limits of the rotonda type, Foots Cray deserves attention for its successful adaptations to site and internal accommodation while reasserting some of the rigor of its precedent villa.

We present the results for the density of states of J = 2 rotons and ν = 1 vibrons in solid (hcp) parahydrogen as well as the joint roton–vibron density of states for noninteracting rotons and vibrons. The width and the shape of the joint roton–vibron density of states agree with those of the Raman and IR spectra in the 4490–4520 cm−1 spectral region lending support to the idea that the latter are due to the Q1(0) + S0(0) double transitions in the fundamental band of solid parahydrogen. However, there are differences between the features of the experimental (Raman and IR) spectra and the joint density of states that indicate that the matrix element effects and perhaps also the effects of interaction between the rotons and the vibrons are important in determining the exact features in these spectra.

Abstract:
El presente trabajo de tesis consiste en determinar las características del desplazamiento peatonal en la rotonda de la Av. Angélica Gamarra y en qué medida se ve afectado por el tránsito vehicular. La investigación surge debido al nuevo enfoque de la movilidad sostenible que se centra en brindar mayores facilidades y beneficios a los peatones y usuarios vulnerables. Por ello, se reconoce que para cumplir con este nuevo paradigma es fundamental determinar primero sus características y necesidades. Para alcanzar los objetivos planteados, se recurrió a la consulta bibliográfica de distintas fuentes de información y textos académicos. Además, para identificar las características geométricas se realizaron mediciones in situ y se utilizaron listas de chequeo. Por último, se evaluaron las características de desplazamiento de los vehículos y peatones mediante la observación directa y encuestas a los usuarios vulnerables. Los resultados reflejan que los peatones se sienten más seguros en el carril por donde los vehículos transitan con más velocidad y más inseguros donde los vehículos transitan con velocidades menores. Asimismo, las líneas de deseo se dispersan donde la velocidad de vehículos es mayor y se convierte en una sola línea recta donde la velocidad de vehículos es menor. Además las personas invierten entre un 37% y 50% del tiempo total de cruce esperando un espacio entre vehículos para cruzar el óvalo. En cuanto a las encuestas, los resultados muestran que el 67% de los encuestados se siente muy inseguro al cruzar el óvalo, el 63% indica que el tránsito vehicular perjudica mucho su desplazamiento, el 83% siente que sus derechos como peatón no son respetados y el 100% indica que el óvalo necesita un semáforo o policía. Todos estos resultados evidencian la gran deficiencia del diseño del óvalo y la necesidad de nuevos diseños en la ciudad que prioricen al peatón.

Abstract:
Ce mémoire présente la caractérisation, la modélisation et les expérimentations d’une articulation robotique flexible dans le but de développer un contrôleur permettant d’en réduire les vibrations. Le travail a été réalisé sur un banc d’essais à un degré de liberté représentant une articulation du futur robot SCOMPI, utilisé, entre autres, pour des opérations de meulage. Une caractérisation de la rigidité, de l’effet d’hystérésis, du frottement et de l’erreur cinématique du réducteur harmonique a été réalisée et analysée. Une modélisation mathématique et numérique (Simulink) du système a aussi été menée en tenant compte des non-linéarités intrinsèques du réducteur harmonique. Le banc d’essai expérimental comprend deux capteurs de position : un, du côté moteur et l’autre, du côté membrure. Puisque ces capteurs sont utilisés pour mesurer la vibration, leur précision est cruciale. Ainsi, le capteur de position du côté membrure a été amélioré d’un facteur 8 pour atteindre une précision de 50 μrad. La correction de l’erreur s’effectue en temps réel, suite à une caractérisation réalisée avec l’appareil de poursuite laser. Cette amélioration a permis de réduire la vibration d’un facteur 7. Quatre rosettes de jauges de déformation installées sur la flexspline, qui est la composante flexible du réducteur harmonique, ont permis de mesurer le couple transmis par l’articulation. L’erreur du capteur due à la fluctuation, initialement de 2 %, a été réduite à 0,3 % suite à une correction en temps réel. De plus, la linéarité du capteur est de 1 %. Le capteur de couple développé a aussi été utilisé comme source de mesure en substitution au capteur de position du côté membrure. L’utilisation de ce capteur a donné des résultats aussi bons que ceux obtenus par l’utilisation d’un capteur de position angulaire. Deux types de contrôle considérant la flexibilité ont été développés, soit un, basé sur la technique des perturbations singulières et l’autre, avec l’approche de commande prédictive (feed-forward). Les contrôleurs s’avéraient prometteurs lors de simulations numériques, mais en situation réelle, la technique de perturbation singulière n’a pas donné de bons résultats. Cependant, la méthode de commande prédictive s’est avérée, dans tous les cas, plus efficace qu’un contrôleur ne considérant pas la flexibilité. Le contrôleur de commande prédictive permet de stabiliser plus rapidement la membrure.

Abstract:
El transporte urbano en la ciudad de Lima posee, en la actualidad, una serie de falencias como es la saturación de sus vías; razón por la cual, se debe buscar medidas de mitigación. Para ello se debe analizar los flujos vehiculares en los diferentes tipos de intersecciones, pues son en estas donde el flujo se ve interrumpido. Entre estas se encuentran las rotondas, que son dispositivos viales bastante comunes en nuestra ciudad. Las intersecciones se analizan mediante modelos vehiculares y se clasifican en dos tipos: determinísticos y micro-simulación. La mayoría de las metodologías de tipo determinístico han sido desarrolladas en países del extranjero y calibradas de acuerdo a su realidad. En nuestro medio, es bastante utilizado el Manual de Capacidad de Carreteras (HCM, siglas en inglés), un manual de metodologías determinísticas de los Estados Unidos. Por esa razón, la presente tesis tiene como finalidad analizar la aplicabilidad de la metodología HCM 2010 para determinar la capacidad de entrada a la rotonda “Los Delfines”, en la ciudad de Lima. Para ello, se aplicó esta metodología en diferentes periodos de tiempo tanto en el carril derecho como izquierdo de una entrada a esta rotonda y se obtuvo los grados de saturación y longitudes de cola en ellos, variables dependientes de la capacidad. Asimismo, se midió las longitudes de cola reales formadas en los mismos periodos para cada carril. Estas se compararon con las colas estimadas mediante la metodología respecto al grado de saturación correspondiente a cada periodo. A partir de esta comparación, se desarrolló un análisis estadístico que demostró que las longitudes de cola medidas y calculadas no son similares. Por lo tanto, se pudo concluir que la metodología HCM 2010 no resultó aplicable para el cálculo de capacidad del carril derecho e izquierdo de una entrada de la rotonda “Los Delfines”.

Hace hincapié al estudio de las rotondas, especificamente en la calibración del modelo de capacidad del "Highway Capacity Manual 2010" a las condiciones locales de la Provincia de Córdoba - Argentina. Para lograr tal fin se realizó una investigación bibliográfica y de campo de tipo descriptivo
El presente trabajo se orientó al estudio de las rotondas, específicamente en la calibración del Modelo de Capacidad del “Highway Capacity Manual 2010” a las condiciones locales de la Provincia de Córdoba – Argentina. Para lograr tal fin se realizó una investigación bibliográfica y de campo de tipo descriptivo. El estudio fue efectuado en cuatro rotondas de la provincia a los fines de caracterizarlas. Se efectuaron varias filmaciones en horas de mayor tránsito, para extraer muestras representativas y calcular los parámetros de calibración del modelo. Estos parámetros son el intervalo crítico y el intervalo de seguimiento. En referencia a los procedimientos utilizados, se empleó el método de “Máxima Verosimilitud”, la “Regresión Lineal” y la Medición Directa para obtener los parámetros de calibración del modelo de capacidad del HCM2010. Se empleó el equipo portátil de recopilación manual de datos, el TDC Ultra de Jamar Technologies, para registrar en algunos períodos de tiempo, volúmenes de tránsito y comparar con las mediciones realizadas de manera tradicional. En el desarrollo del presente trabajo se observó que es posible adecuar el modelo de capacidad del HCM2010 mediante la consideración del comportamiento del conductor local dentro de los parámetros indicados. Se concluye que a través de una comparación con el modelo planteado por el HCM2010 y las mediciones hechas en otros países, los conductores locales presentan intervalos crítico y de seguimiento menores, lo que genera una capacidad mayor. Se plantean un conjunto de recomendaciones para futuros estudios o trabajos que contemplen la adecuación de modelos a condiciones particulares.
This research work is intended to study the roundabouts, specifically for the purposes of calibrating the Capacity Model from “Highway Capacity Manual 2010” to local conditions of the Córdoba Province, Argentina. During this research, both, bibliographical research and descriptive field work were used as methodologies to reach the declared goal. The field study was developed in four province’s roundabouts in order to be able to characterize them. At the same time, filming was made in rush hour traffic to obtain a representative sample and to estimate the calibration parameters. These specific parameters are the Critical Gap and the Follow-up Headway. Maximum Likelihood Method, Linear Regression and Direct Measurement were chosen as proceedings to obtain the calibration parameters of the capacity model from HCM2010. In the same way, by using the portable equipment for manual data gathering, Jamar Technologies ́s TDC Ultra, it was possible to register some traffic volumes and to compare with measurements performed with traditional procedures. During this research work, it was possible to appreciate that the Capacity Model from HCM2010 can be calibrated on the basis of the local driver behavior, in the context of the proposed parameters. Through comparison of the model proposed in HCM2010 and measurements made in others countries, this investigation allowed to reach the conclusion that local drivers have smaller critical and follow-up intervals, which generate a greater capacity. Finally, several recommendations are presented for those cases of studies and works including the adaptation of models to particular circumstances in the future.

Con il presente elaborato di tesi ci si propone di sviluppare il progetto concettuale del rotore di un velivolo per l’esplorazione marziana di massa complessiva pari a 20 kg. Tenendo conto delle problematiche specifiche del caso di studio e degli approcci non convenzionali al problema che esso richiede, l’obiettivo è quello di trattare a livello concettuale il progetto di un rotore ottimizzato per l’atmosfera di Marte e per le sue peculiari caratteristiche fisiche. Questo studio costituisce il punto di partenza per uno sviluppo più dettagliato dell’argomento nel corso del progetto preliminare. Dopo aver definito un modello di atmosfera di riferimento, le specifiche del progetto e i requisiti che esso deve rispettare, utilizzando i risultati teorici della Teoria del Disco Attuatore si è compiuta una prima valutazione delle dimensioni generali richieste dal caso di studio, individuando raggio e “solidity ratio” opportuni. Dopodiché, applicando la Teoria dell’Elemento di Pala, si è progettata la geometria in pianta delle pale, determinandone il numero, la corda effettiva e la rastremazione. Infine, una possibile scelta del profilo da impiegare è stata proposta, e una distribuzione dell’angolo di calettamento dei profili lungo la pala è stata progettata. Una volta dimensionata la geometria concettuale del rotore, si è realizzata una sua modellazione in un CAD tridimensionale.

L'elimodellismo è una passione che lega un numero sempre maggiore di persone: nuove manifestazioni vengono organizzate in tutto il mondo e nuove discipline vengono continuamente proposte. Questo è il caso della disciplina speed in cui i piloti si sfidano a far volare i propri elimodelli alle massime velocità. L'azienda SAB Heli Division s.r.l., come produttore di pale per elimodelli e della serie di elicotteri Goblin, ha interesse a sostenere i propri piloti con le proprie macchine, facendo sì che siano veloci e competitive. Per questo ha voluto sviluppare una pala che, montata sul proprio elicottero specifico per questa disciplina, possa vincere la concorrenza con l'ambizione di stabilire un primato di velocità a livello internazionale. Il problema è quindi quello di sviluppare una pala che ottimizzasse al meglio le caratteristiche dell'elimodello Goblin Speed, in modo da sfruttare al meglio la potenza installata a bordo. Per via dei limiti sui mezzi a disposizione l'ottimizzazione è stata portata avanti mediante la teoria dell'elemento di pala. Si è impostato il calcolo determinando la potenza media su una rotazione del rotore in volo avanzato a 270 km/h e quindi attraverso gli algoritmi di ottimizzazione globale presenti nel codice di calcolo MATLAB si è cercato il rotore che permettesse il volo a tale velocità al variare del raggio del disco del rotore, dello svergolamento della pala e della distribuzione di corda lungo la pala. Per far sì che si abbiano risultati più precisi si sono sfruttati alcuni modelli per stimare il campo di velocità indotta o gli effetti dello stallo dinamico. Inoltre sono state stimate altre grandezze di cui non sono noti i dati reali o di cui è troppo complesso, per le conoscenze a disposizione, avere un dato preciso. Si è tuttavia cercato di avere stime verosimili. Alcune di queste grandezze sono le caratteristiche aerodinamiche del profilo NACA 0012 utilizzato, ottenute mediante analisi CFD bidimensionale, i comandi di passo collettivo e ciclico che equilibrano il velivolo e la resistenza aerodinamica dell'intero elimodello. I risultati del calcolo sono stati confrontati innanzitutto con le soluzioni già adottate dall'azienda. Quindi si è proceduto alla realizzazione della pala e mediante test di volo si è cercato di valutare le prestazioni della macchina che monta la pala ottenuta. Nonostante le approssimazioni adottate si è osservato che la pala progettata a partire dai risultati dell'ottimizzazione rispecchia la filosofia adottata: per velocità paragonabili a quelle ottenute con le pale prodotte da SAB Heli Division, le potenze richieste sono effettivamente inferiori. Tuttavia non è stato possibile ottenere un vero e proprio miglioramento della velocità di volo, presumibilmente a causa delle stime delle caratteristiche aerodinamiche delle diverse parti del Goblin Speed.

It would have been equally appropriate to compare, in a more direct way, what was happening in northern Europe with respect to Mediterranean Europe, bearing in mind the role of Protestantism, very far from clothing that was too flashy. The role of colors and themes, also of an artistic nature, that transpired from clothing also refer to other aspects that will have to be taken up on other occasions.

Abstract:
This round-table discussion focuses on two major aspects of the use of alternative currencies. The first is the role of negotiation. The complexity of valuation in exchanges in kind has been widely highlighted. However, it is important to emphasise the relative subjectivity of this operation which, despite the explicit reference to the market price, retains a cultural dimension. This observation means that we must not overlook the individual or category dimension of the transaction, which can tip the exchange in favour of one or other of the parties, resulting in a form of dependency. The second component is mistrust. Distrust appears to develop on the soil of the abuses observed. The fear or feeling of being duped. The vocabulary bears witness to this, but not without revealing a certain ambiguity in ancient societies with regard to bartering, which invites us to look beyond the negative value of the vocabulary and consider the bias that may be introduced by contractual sources that mainly bring together strangers.

The contribution is divided into four parts. The first contextualizes the issue of alternative currencies from a methodological and chronological point of view. The second questions the real diffusion of metal money and highlights the problems deriving from the presence of accounting almost always in money of account. The third concerns how, in a world where alternative currencies were very relevant, value was attributed to goods used in trade or to pay for services. The fourth underlines the consequences of the presence of robust economic logics even in the pre-industrial age. In the final part, after underlining the critical issues of the approach adopted in the reconstruction of wages and living standards, alternative solutions are proposed that are more in line with the pre-industrial reality that we want to investigate.

El Arte Marginal, también conocido principalmente como Art Brut, Outsider Art o también Raw Art, forma parte de un grupo de manifestaciones artísticas poco o nada consideradas por el mundo del arte contemporáneo, invisibilizadas al fin y al cabo tanto por la crítica como por el público y, por supuesto, los propios artistas. Se da la paradoja por otro lado de que en algunos de los lugares en los que tradicionalmente se exhibe el arte público contemporáneo oficial, es decir supuestamente aplaudido o por aplaudir, como por ejemplo puedan las rotondas de nuestras ciudades y carreteras, se llevan realizando intervenciones cuya firma y autoridad son más que discutibles, por no decir claramente desafortunadas. Si bien estas ejecuciones tienen lugar en el centro de las rotondas, nosotros venimos desde hace tiempo ocupándonos y actuando sobre y como fenómenos que tienen lugar en sus alrededores, sus márgenes al fin y al cabo. Como pate de estas acciones e investigaciones sacamos aquí a la luz el caso de, llamémosle ‘Vicente’ (“la víctima Vicente”, en sus propias palabras’), un grafista que lleva años exhibiendo sus mensajes de auxilio pintados sobre cartones y tableros colocados en diversos puntos de la comarca de L’Horta de València, principalmente en carreteras y poblaciones de L’Horta Nord. Fruto de nuestra investigación, mostraremos algunos de sus trabajos y ubicaciones, así como entrevistas en las que este artista heterógrafo nos narra cuáles son sus pulsiones y motivaciones, así como reflexiones e hipótesis al respecto.

La Torre de San Andrés formó parte de una serie de fortificaciones del siglo XVIII para la defensa de la isla de Tenerife (Islas Canarias). Su ubicación estratégica junto a la rambla de San Andrés ha determinado su conservación, provocada por diversas avenidas tormentosas, desde 1706 que se levantara la primera, hasta 1770 en la que se levantaría la tercera y definitiva, y ha llegado hasta nuestros días semicolapsada por la gran avenida de 1895. Este bien cultural ha sido objeto en los últimos años de un debate público entre los vecinos de Santa Cruz de Tenerife, en general, y en particular entre los vecinos del barrio de San Andrés, sobre su uso, tipo de intervención y gestión de la torre. A pesar de las medidas de protección jurídicas aplicadas, actualmente la torre se encuentra en estado de colapso parcial en su sección norte, inscrita dentro de una rotonda de tráfico rodado y aislada del espacio público del núcleo de San Andrés. El enclave ha perdido su relación original con el mar y es evidente su falta de mantenimiento. En este trabajo se analizará el papel de la percepción y la participación social en la gestión de este inmueble y cómo puede determinar su uso y conservación.
