Abstract:
Abstract The word “gnosis” is widely used in contemporary scholarship in a range of fields including not only the study of the historical phenomenon of Gnosticism, but also in more unexpected areas like translations of Buddhist texts, where the term has taken on a fairly specific collectively understood meaning. Broadly speaking, in the developing consensus visible both in scholarship and in popular culture, gnosis refers to knowledge that transcends ratiocinative, discursive, or dualistic forms of knowledge. Gnosis, broadly understood both in scholarship and to some extent in popular culture, refers to knowledge understood as the transcendence of self/other dualism. Authors discussed include Edward Conze, Theodore Roszak, Carl Jung, Andrew Newberg, April DeConick, Peter Carroll, Andrieh Vitimus, Ken Wilber, and Christopher Bache.

Abstract:
Abstract: How to recognize the presence of God in the world? Thomas Aquinas' proposition, based on the efficient, exemplary and intentional causality, including both the natural level and grace, avoids several simplifications, the consequence of which is transcendent blindness. On the one hand, it does not allow to fall into a panentheistic reductionism involving God into the game of His variability in relation to the changing world. The sensitivity of Thomas in interpreting a real existing world makes it impossible to close the subject in the ''house without windows'', from where God can only be presumed. On the other hand, the proposal of Aquinas avoids the radical transcendence of God, according to which He has nothing to do with the world.

Abstract:
Science and Technology (ST) understood as mechanical Newtonian physics and industry has indeed bypassed Muslim societies - and that’s a good thing. Because with the new ST Muslims can become full participants rather than passive recipients. From the 1960s and 1970s, a few Muslim thinkers sounded the alarm about ST (e.g., Seyyed Hossein Nasr, Ismail Faruqi, and Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas). They were aware that Muslim societies were trying to catch up and join a system of knowledge and technological tools that were both ontologically opposed to Islam and harmful to Muslim cultures. At the same time, thinkers in the West were horrified at the implications of ST for the natural world and for human freedom (e.g., Theodore Roszak, Jerry Mander, Lewis Mumford, Jacques Ellul). Today, from intellectual discourse to popular culture and movies, the idea that the old science and technology has gone wrong is easy to find and accept.

Abstract:

Abstract Effects of dodecyltrimethylammonium chloride (DTAC), dodecyltrimethylammonium bromide (DTAB) and dodecyltrimethylammonium iodide (DTAI) on thermotropic phase behaviour of phosphatidylcholine bilayers containing cholesterol as well as on 1H NMR spectra were studied. Two series of experiments were performed. In the first one the surfactants were added to the water phase while in the other directly to the lipid phase (a mixed film from cholesterol, surfactant and phosphatidylcholine was formed). The effects of particular surfactants on the main phase transition temperature, Tm, were more pronounced when added to the lipid phase (2nd method) than to the water phase ( 1st method); the opposite happened when cholesterol was absent (Różycka-Roszak and Pruchnik 2000, Z. Naturforsch. 55c, 240-244). Furthermore, in the case of the first method the transitions were asymmetrical while in the second method nearly symmetrical. It is suggested that surfactant poor and surfactant rich domains are formed when surfactants are added to the water phase.

Abstract:
Ecopsycology emphasizes on the intrinsic bond between humans and nature for mutual well-being. This article examines how poetry of corona time expresses human anxieties of environmental loss and sense of alienation from nature and how it makes people aware of their inherent sense of emotional attachment with natural system for their happiness, well-being and meaningful life. The objective of this paper is to investigate humans’ alienation from nature and their efforts for reconnecting to it. To achieve this, the paper evaluates the selected poems using theoretical modality of ecopsychology propounded by Theodore Roszak and Robert Greenway. As a piece of qualitative research, it incorporates interpretive and analytical approaches following the techniques of close reading of the selected texts. Along with the relevant observations of critics, the focus lies on the thematic and textual analysis of the selected poems. The findings of the research unveil that corona time poetry depicts humans’ alienation from nature as a consequence of their indifference to and domination upon it, and the only way for their well-being is reconnection to it.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Mark Sundeen is an American born author of many successful books touching on various themes. One of his most prolific book is The Unsettlers, which was published in 2017, and focuses on two emerging practices, living off the grid and living simply. The author combines these two themes in The Unsettlers as though to imply that they are related. This provides a starting point for the reader to understand what they are. Living simply underscores the quest to resist the material culture prevailing in America and the world today. Living off the grid underscores the quest to be free from bills and utility connections for water, electricity, and gasoline. The simplicity theory by Nick Chater. Paul Vitanyi, Jacob Feldman, Jean-Louis Dessalles, and Jürgen Schmidhuber provide a better understanding of human affinity to noncomplex things. When examined through the concepts of anti-consumerism and environmentalism, simplicity theory helps understand Sundeen’s ideas about living simply. The theory of Eco-psychology by Theodore Roszak offers a better understanding of the link between the environment and economic activities. This theory helps understand the ideas of Sundeen on living off the grid when evaluated through the concepts of environmental sustainability and ecological economics. This paper examines the motivations and processes of living simply and living off the grid.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Monique Roffey is a Trinidadian-born award winning writer who has produced a number of famous novels and a memoir. In her recent novel, Archipelago (2012), issues on redemption, loss of hope and healing were highlighted in the wake of a devastating natural disaster that swept across the Caribbean Island of Trinidad. Life was a complete change for the chief protagonist, Gavin Weald, as the catastrophic flood not only destroyed his home but also put great psychological strains which affected him and his family. In order to combat the distressing ordeal, Gavin and his daughter- alongside with their dog- decided to set sail and to make peace with the very ocean that caused the misfortune upon them. This research aims to validate the authenticity and importance nature plays in overcoming trauma that has been caused by the flood. In order to carry out this research, the concepts of ecological unconscious and dualism under the lenses of Eco-psychology by Theodore Roszak and Andy Fisher as well as trauma by Cathy Caruth will be employed in analysing how nature plays a pertinent role in healing trauma caused by the floods in this novel. This study aspires to explicate further the relationship between human and animals and how this union helps to overcome psychological disturbances experienced by the characters.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The article reveals the theoretical aspects of the subject and the genesis of ecological psychology and ecopsychology as a branch of modern psychological knowledge. It is noted that the ecological crisis and the awareness of the limits of subduing nature have actualized the problem of both protecting nature and preserving psychological health. Different definitions of the subject of environmental psychology, which are available in scientific and educational literature, are considered. It is noted that they are tangential to Western environmental psychology. The fundamental difference between environmental psychology and ecopsychology is indicated. It was found that the first of them is a branch of behaviorist research, the second is a type of Jungian-oriented psychoanalysis. The article argues that ecopsychology arose on the basis of fundamental transformations of the determinants of Western self-awareness in the second half of the 20th century. Nine principles of ecopsychology by T. Roszak are given, which determine the foundations of this psychological direction. It is noted that ecopsychology pays the main attention to the ecological unconscious, which relates a person to the natural world. It is indicated that on the basis of the theoretical approaches of ecopsychology, whole complexes of psychotherapeutic methods of restoring the human connection with the surrounding world, overcoming alienation from nature, have been created. In the conclusions, it is stated that the domestic environmental psychology by subject and method gravitates more towards environmental psychology, but recently tries to take into account the achievements of ecopsychology, sharing its certain theoretical foundations. It is the synthesis of these two directions that will give a new impetus to the development of this field of psychological science and psychotherapeutic practices.

Abstract:
In the article the author analyzes the directions of studying the phenomenon of counterculture in Western science. An attempt is also made to typologize these scientific approaches. The term is first encountered in the work of Talcott Parsons «Social System» in 1951. The term is used in the context of a discussion on the ideology of subculture movements and deviant groups. His term sounds like «counter-culture». In a somewhat modified writing, with an expanded description of the term, it is used by American sociologist J. Milton Jinger in 1960. His term «contraculture» in English first encountered in 1960. The term gained its scientific and public popularity in 1969 after Theodore Roszak`s publication “The Making of a Counter Culture”. He used this term to describe countercultural, subcultural movements in the United States of the 1960s, including the hippies, the «New Left». The term also was related to their critical program, as well as to characterizing an alternative society, whose creation was propagated, and partly carried out by the representatives of the movements of the sixties. This approach characterizes counterculture in a narrow sense. In the broad sense, it does not connected to a concrete time period and defines a set of ideas, values, world outlook, which oppose the official basic culture. After investigating the views of scholars on counterculture, since the 1970s the author identifies three different directions, divided by the criterion of relation to counterculture. Among them are apologetic, critical and balanced approaches. To the apologetic approach belongs the work of researchers, which is characterized by a clearly positive attitude to counterculture, social and political aspects of its activities. Often there are some critical remarks but they do not change the general picture of the author’s commitment to the phenomenon. Critical approach include researchers who consider counterculture as a negative social phenomenon and practice. The most radical representatives include Daniel Bell, Joseph Heath and Andrew Potter and others. Balanced approach combines the work of many researchers, which combines efforts to investigate counterculture as an objective phenomenon, while taking into account its weaknesses and strengths. At the same time, the authors recognize the importance of existence of the phenomenon, its influence on socio-cultural and political processes. Criticism relates to radical cultural practices, political extremism and excessive interest in psychedelics among representatives of counterculture. The approaches of researchers to this direction vary, from the «pioneer» of research of the phenomenon J. Milton Jinger, and to the researchers who tried to conduct research directly inside of the countercultural movement, in particular Kenneth Keniston, and others.

Abstract:
Abstract In this research work, rotating savings and credit association (ROSCA) effect on the growth of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) and identification of a factor supporting the continuity of ROSCAs is studied. A well-designed questionnaire with a reliability value of 0.957 was distributed to 400 entrepreneurs in Wukari through snowball sampling technique. After validity check, 368 valid questionnaires were used for the research. Firstly, a paired t-test was applied to know if entrepreneurs achieve significant positive growth in their business before and after 5 years of joining ROSCAs. At 5% level of significance, entrepreneurs achieved significant positive growth in their businesses 5 years and above of joining ROSCAs. Secondly, a one sample proportion Z-score test was used to identify the major factor responsible for ROSCAs continuity. At 5% significance level, flexibility was identified as the major factor responsible for ROSCAs. It was concluded based on the results obtained that ROSCAs has a significant positive effect on the growth of MSMEs and ROSCAs continuity towards MSMEs growth is due to its flexibility factor in terms of operations, disbursement, seeking loans and interest rate.

Abstract:
Rotating savings and credit associations (roscas) are informal financial organizations common in settings where communities have reduced access to formal financial institutions. In a rosca, a fixed group of participants regularly contribute sums of money to a pot. This pot is then allocated periodically using lottery, aftermarket, or auction mechanisms. Roscas are empirically well-studied in economics. They are, however, challenging to study theoretically due to their dynamic nature. Typical economic analyses of roscas stop at coarse ordinal welfare comparisons to other credit allocation mechanisms, leaving much of roscas' ubiquity unexplained. In this work, we take an algorithmic perspective on the study of roscas. Building on techniques from the price of anarchy literature, we present worst-case welfare approximation guarantees. We further experimentally compare the welfare of outcomes as key features of the environment vary. These cardinal welfare analyses further rationalize the prevalence of roscas. We conclude by discussing several other promising avenues.
