Abstract:
Roomba, the autonomous robotic vacuum cleaner sold by iRobot since 2002, is now a taken-for-granted household helper in many homes. In this study that cross-cuts phenomenology, postphenomenology, actor–network theory and media ecology, I utilize four heuristics for interviewing digital objects. I interview Roomba and utilize qualitative research methods to theorize about the complexities of the entanglements and relationships between human beings and their robot vacuum cleaners. Conclusions connect to critical theory and feminism and also question justifications of anthropocentrism in a posthuman world.

Abstract:
Our goal is to improve the coverage of an area using robots with simple sensors and simple, robust algorithms usable for any kind of room. We investigate the advantage of the swarm - compared to a single robot - and three different algorithms for the task of searching landmarks in a previously unknown area. The guidance of the robot is based on landmarks, implemented by RFID tags irregularly placed in the room. The experiments are conducted using a custom made simulator of RFID-equipped Roomba cleaning robots, based on our previous work with real-life Roomba swarms. We show that for the simple room coverage algorithms the speedup gained from increasing the size of the swarm diminishes as the swarm grows and most importantly, for larger swarm sizes the information available and the intelligence of the algorithm becomes less important.

Abstract:
Business traveling is attracting growing attention due to the expansion of international markets. This fact calls for an increasing attention of the tourism sector toward the needs of business travellers, who often require services that are different from the ones desired by leisure tourists. The application of smart solutions coming from Context Awareness and Ambient Intelligence aimed at promoting guests’ comfort and well-being, also in cases in which they have special needs, represents a promising solution to tackle business travellers’ requirements and thus, to increase hotels attractiveness and incomes. In this context, this work introduces RoomFort, a smart comfort management system aimed at enhancing comfort of hotel room guests and leveraging on semantic representations of comfort, environment, and sensors. RoomFort provides a set of domain ontologies to formalize comfort-related metrics and to exploit the automatic reasoning capabilities provided by Semantic Web technologies, while gathering data through a network of sensors to ensure guests are provided with tailored comfort profiles during their stays in the hotel. Particular focus has been placed on visual comfort, since indoor lighting features constitute one of the main factors influencing the two main activities that most business travellers accomplish in their hotel room: working and relaxing.

This was a prospective prevalence study carried out over a period of 2 months on 10 stethoscopes showing that 90% of the stethoscopes collected were infected. The average number of CFU / membrane was estimated at 3.1x104. This number has clearly been reduced 172 times after disinfection. This study suggests that awareness and the use of hydro alcoholic solutions to disinfect stethoscopes can significantly reducebacterial carriage and infections.

Abstract:
PT. Intan Ustrix that's placed at Jl. Raya Roomo No.425, Sekarsore, Roomo, Kec. Manyar, Kabupaten Gresik Indonesia is a company engaged in the paper and cardboard business, and has many machines used in the manufacturing process. The load of the induction motor will make the cost lower, thereby increasing the current cost through the device inside the carton production unit. Fixing the cost of cos is a great way to solve this problem. In this case, it is very important to install a capacitor bank to recover the charge. By installing a capacitor bank will affect the overall performance of the motor used. The cause of this research is the increasing cost of boarding at the cardboard production unit of PT. Intan Ustrix. As an evaluation, capacitor banks are installed on the H200, AFG, 6PA, FM, and 6PS buses so that low cos costs can be increased. The final result of this charge shows that increasing the cos cost at full load of 325 KW from 0.716 to 0.872 can reduce the actual power cost (S) from 396 KVA to 329 KVA, which can maintain 65 KVA and today's decrease (I) from 498 A to 410 A, the lower the current consumption price of the motor used can increase the resistance of the device to the carton production unit.

Abstract:
This article focuses on creation of autonomous robots by engineers that can interact with the world around them by layering simple behaviors. The growing presence of autonomous robots at Hanover echoes the interest seen worldwide. In the United States, for instance, autonomous robots range in sophistication from simple Roomba household vacuum cleaners to the complex vehicles that competed in Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency’s Urban Challenge. Instead, engineers are looking for clues in the behavior of social insects. Ants have attracted the most interest. While an individual ant has only a limited range of simple behaviors, the way it interacts with other ants produces responses that make the nest appear intelligent. Autonomous robots need better localization and mapping. They must learn faster and more efficiently. They should work together better as a team. They need to be more robust. Above all, they need to get smarter. An ant works randomly because it has no choice. It stumbles around until it creates the shortest path to food. Humans can see the whole picture and pick out that path immediately.

Abstract:
An important missing piece in the puzzle of how plastids spread across the eukaryotic tree of life is a robust evolutionary framework for the host lineages. Four assemblages are known to harbour plastids derived from red algae and, according to the controversial chromalveolate hypothesis, these all share a common ancestry. Phylogenomic analyses have consistently shown that stramenopiles and alveolates are closely related, but haptophytes and cryptophytes remain contentious; they have been proposed to branch together with several heterotrophic groups in the newly erected Hacrobia. Here, we tested this question by producing a large expressed sequence tag dataset for the katablepharid Roombia truncata , one of the last hacrobian lineages for which genome-level data are unavailable, and combined this dataset with the recently completed genome of the cryptophyte Guillardia theta to build an alignment composed of 258 genes. Our analyses strongly support haptophytes as sister to the SAR group, possibly together with telonemids and centrohelids. We also confirmed the common origin of katablepharids and cryptophytes, but these lineages were not related to other hacrobians; instead, they branch with plants. Our study resolves the evolutionary position of haptophytes, an ecologically critical component of the oceans, and proposes a new hypothesis for the origin of cryptophytes.

Abstract:
ArgumentThe psychoanalytic setting counts today as one of the familiar therapeutic rituals of the Western world. Taking up some of the insights of the anthropology of science will allow us to account for both the social and the material arrangements from which Freud's invention emerged at the end of the nineteenth century out of the clinical laboratories and private consulting rooms of practitioners of hypnosis. The peculiar way of neglecting or forgetting the object world and the institution of the psychoanalyst as a “transference object” will be traced back to multiple reconfigurations in the history of hypnotism in France and in Germany. In this process, different practitioners tried to achieve a synthesis of clinical work and experimental psychology, with the aim of objectifying knowledge about human subjectivity. While Freud retained the claim of psychoanalysis performing an experimental situation, he set apart his own setting from the objectifying practices which were characteristic of this experimental psychology located in the clinic and the private consulting room.It is not easy to over-estimate the importance of the part played by hypnotism in the history of the origin of psychoanalysis. From a theoretical as well as from a therapeutic point of view, psycho-analysis has at its command a legacy which it has inherited from hypnotism.Sigmund Freud, A Short Account of Psycho-Analysis ([1923] 1924, 192)

Abstract:
In recent years, cleaning robots like Roomba have gained popularity. These cleaning robots have limited battery power, and therefore, efficient cleaning is important. Efforts are being undertaken to improve the efficiency of cleaning robots. Most of the previous works have used on-robot cameras, developed dirt detection sensors which are mounted on the cleaning robot, or built a map of the environment to clean periodically. However, a critical limitation of all the previous works is that robots cannot know if the floor is clean or not unless they actually visit that place. Hence, timely information is not available if the room needs to be cleaned. To overcome such limitations, we propose a novel approach that uses external cameras, which can communicate with the robots. The external cameras are fixed in the room and detect if the floor is untidy or not through image processing. The external camera detects if the floor is untidy, along with the exact areas, and coordinates of the portions of the floor that must be cleaned. This information is communicated to the cleaning robot through a wireless network. Thus, cleaning robots have access to a `bird’s-eye view’ of the environment for efficient cleaning. In this paper, we demonstrate the dirt detection using external camera and communication with robot in actual scenarios.

Abstract:
Abstracts: A solar air heater is a useful device that can be used to raise the temperature of a roomby capturing heat from solar energy This paper is about a two-dimensional numerical study that was done to predict the influence of transverse rectangular cross-sectioned ribs on the convective heat transfer properties of a solar air heater. It is a rectangular duct with an absorber plate on top, and heat only falls on the top of the absorber plate. The thermal performance of air flowing through the rectangular duct is significantly altered when different shapes and orientations of ribs/baffles are introduced just beneath the absorber plate. A comparison was made between the results of thin (high aspect ratio) and square ribs arranged in three patterns, namely, single wall arrangement ,staggered arrangement and in-line arrangement on two opposite walls. The Nusselt number variation with Reynolds number range 4000-25000 was checked at a fixed rib pitch (p) and height (e) values. Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations were performed using commercially available software ANSYS FLUENT v15.0..The results revealed that the thin ribs yielded better performance than the squared ones. Out of the three arrangements, the best thermal performance was given by thin inline ribs whose convective heat transfer coefficient was 1.93 times smooth duct’s convective heat transfer coefficient.

Abstract:
This article proposes a mutual positioning relay method that enables multiple robots to monitor indoor environments. Here, robots refer to a small number of parent robots with high positioning performance and a large number of child robots with minimal positioning performance. The parent robot can estimate its state accurately by itself. In comparison, the child robots have position errors that accumulate with time as they use only odometry information for positioning. Each robot can recognize other robots in its field of view by using a depth camera. It then performs relative positioning and estimates its position of itself or that of other robots on the map. The uncertainty of the position estimation is compared with each other, and the robot with a certain position becomes a positioning reference for the robot with an uncertain position. In this way, both the parent and child robots relay relative positioning with each other, following which all the robots accurately estimate their positions. In this study, six robots based on Roomba were used. The performance of the proposed method was verified based on experimental data of autonomous navigation tests. Our results showed that the proposed method could realize an accuracy that was four to five times better than that performed independently by a child robot. Our findings also revealed that the proposed method can recover the failure of the state estimation of the parent robot.
