Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The aim of the thesis is to provide a systematic analysis of the metrical features of Chretien de Troyes’ romances (Erec et Enide, Cligès, Chevalier de la Charrete, Chevalier au lion and Conte du Graal). The work is divided into three sections: the first part focuses on the rhymes employed by Chrétien (the most frequent rhymes; their variety and the degree of richness; etymological and phonetic connections between the word-rhymes). The second chapter analyses the rhythmic structure of the octosyllable (the distribution and the frequency of stresses; the placement of internal breaks). The third part aims to investigate the relationship between metrical structure and syntactical construction: the coincidence or the lack of coincidence between sentence and couplet (the so-called ʻbrisure du coupletʼ), the extension of the periods and the employ of enjambments.

Abstract:
Starting from the results provided by Mölk and Wolfzettel's Répertoire métrique, this thesis deals with the problem of the anisosyllabism in medieval Romance versification, focusing in particular on the Old-French lyric poetry. Therefore, the revision of the previous metrical marking constitutes the main aim of the dissertation, in order to provide an updated measure of the probatory weight of the selected corpus. Before this close examination, two sections contribute to the study and to the establishment of a scientific methodology: the first one analyses the prominent moments in the history of Romance philology which influenced both ecdotic theory and philological practice. In the second one we discuss the main problems concerning methodological choices such as the probative function of the manuscript tradition or the question about the demonstrative role of the melodic notation. As a result, the dissertation tries to demonstrate the necessity to decrease the number of suspected anisosyllabic texts in the Old-French poetry.

Abstract:
The project focuses on the study of the language of some of Italian and French tragedies between 1831 and 1865, in the middle period of the modernization process of the Romanian literature. The proposal perspective is historical and linguistic, but at the same time, it intends to contextualize the linguistic and literary alterations that occurred in Romania in those years in both an European and romance vision. The script structure offers two introductory chapters on the historicalliterary main issues and historicallinguistic's one. The third section of the doctoral thesis concerns the analysis of a very representative corpus of pièces translations (they were made between 1831 and 1865 in the Romanian Principalities): this corpus, composed of seven pièces, is entirely focused on the tragic repertoire and includes neoclassical tragedy, romantic dramasand and Italian opera libretto. Each piece is analyzed in a dedicated monograph that point out the features of lexical borrowing, in particular by identifying any presence of relationships of direct derivation from the original French or Italian words of neologisms. The final part of the work will place the phenomenon of Romanian pièces translations and the “romance Westernization” of the Romanian language in a romance and European context: Romanian thus fits into a process of linguistic interference which took place in Europe in that years who sees both in French and in Italian languages its two main cultural points of reference. From the point of view of the study of the lexical, this has meant the circulations of "Europeanisms", a supranational and distinctive of acculturated languages lexicon, based on Latin, Greek, French and Italian, which has put in place the ultimately rediscovery of Latin in the modern Romanian language.

Abstract:
This Ph.D thesis is a research on a particular aspect of the romance philology, and above all of the Italian one: the use of special diacritical marks - except the punctuation - on the edition of old Italian and vernacular texts. This argument had never been dealt in a systematic way until now, perhaps because it is considered marginal and instrumental. The work reconstructs the history of the several and different solutions adopted by the philologists and critic editors in order to represent particular graphic-phonetic and textual phenomena, from the first scientific editions of the nineteenth century to the current ecdotic proposals that regard both the literary texts and the documentary ones. After a necessary reference to the most important examples of the use of diacritical signs in the classical philology, and in the first printed editions of old Italian texts, the work draws attention to the early and surprising interest showed by the Italian philology of the nineteenth century, and just before by the French and German philology, for questions concerning the use of particular signs, especially in connection with the linguistic characteristics of texts, that don’t correspond to the standard Italian, towards questions concerning the use of diacritical marks. The next section surveys the main systems of transcription worked out on the twentieth century (the crucial moments are the Nuovi testi fiorentini by Arrigo Castellani, the Poeti del Duecento by Gianfranco Contini, the Concordanze della lingua poetica italiana delle origini by d’Arco Silvio Avalle). The main section of the work shows the different solutions adopted from the Italian ecdotic tradition in order to represent particular graphic-phonetic and textual phenomena (for example raddoppiamento sintattico or syntactic doubling, assimilation, enclisis, editorial additions and expunction, etc.). Finally are examined some graphic devices, mainly of the nineteenth-century, consolidated from the tradition, but inappropriate, because they are anachronistic compared with old Italian. The work is completed by a synopsis of the different techniques of graphic representation of homographs adopted on the editions of old Italian texts.

Abstract:

Abstract:
For a long time, the work of a Franciscan Friar who had lived in Bologna and in Florence during the 13th and 14th centuries, Bartolomeo Della Pugliola, was thought to have been lost. Recent paleographic research, however, has affirmed that most of Della Pugliola’s work, although mixed into other authors, is contained in two manuscripts (1994 and 3843), currently kept at University Library in Bologna. Pugliola’s chronicle is central to Bolognese medieval literature, not only because it was the privileged source for the important work of Ramponis’ chronicle, but also because Bartolomeo della Pugliola’s sources are several significant works such as Jacopo Bianchetti’s lost writings and Pietro and Floriano Villolas’ chronicle (1163-1372). Ongoing historical studies and recent discoveries enabled me to reconstruct the historical chronology of Pugliola’s work as well as the Bolognese language between the 13th and 14th century The original purpose of my research was to add a linguistic commentary to the edition of the text in order to fill the gaps in medieval Bolognese language studies. In addition to being a reliable source, Pugliola’s chronicle was widely disseminated and became a sort of vulgate. The tradition of chronicle, through collation, allows the study of the language from a diachronic point of view. I therefore described all the linguistics phenomena related to phonetics, morphology and syntax in Pugliola’s text and I compared these results with variants in Villola’s and Ramponis’ chronicles. I also did likewise with another chronicle by a 16th century merchant, Friano Ubaldini, that I edited. This supplement helped to complete the Bolognese language outline from the 13th to the 16th century. In order to analize the data that I collected, I tried to approach them from a sociolinguistic point of view because each author represents a different variant of the language: closer to a scripta and the Florentine the language used by Pugliola, closer to the dialect spoken in Bologna the language used by Ubaldini. Differencies in handwriting especially show the models the authors try to reproduce or imitate. The glossary I added at the end of this study can help to understand these nuances with a number of examples.

Abstract:
Abstract Romania is the EU Member State with the highest numbers of emigrants, according to Eurostat. The annual growth of the Romanian diaspora is one of the fastest in the world, and quite recent (over the past 20 years). In light of these developments, the institutional network for engagement with Romanians abroad, first established in the mid-1990s, has recently increased in an attempt to respond to the fast-growing Romanian diaspora. A Ministry entirely dedicated to maintaining the relations with the Romanian diaspora was formally institutionalized 10 years after Romania officially joined the EU in 2017, replacing scattered departments and institutional bodies. However, the role of the recently set up diaspora institutions still needs to be clarified and firmly determined. Policies were developed with the goal of ensuring the integration of Romanian citizens in their countries of residence, but also to encourage return to Romania. In particular, as few other European diaspora populations, the Romanian diaspora is represented in the Romanian Parliament by two Senators and four Deputies who represent the interests of three to five million Romanians abroad.

Abstract:
The project "Romania 100 - I choose Romania" developed by Radio Romania aims to cultivate the love of the country, the pride of being Romanian while promoting the highest human values recognized internationally. During the last years there were presented the most beautiful places in Romania (2014), the most valuable Romanians in science and culture (2015), the most famous athletes or sports teams from Romania (2016) and the most beautiful Romanian songs performed by great national artists (2017). The radio-documentary series were broadcast on-air an all the regional radio network stations and also posted online on the project's website, YouTube channel and Facebook page. In 2018, when 100 years from the Great Union are celebrated, the campaign will present 100 defining events in history that made the nowadays Romania possible. To celebrate this, the organizers intend to create 12 memorial parks in important Romanian cities. They will enclose "Union Forum" places, guarded by 20 symbols, 10 on each side of the alley or placed on the circumference for the round forums. For a multitude of reasons, including the appeal to a younger audience, there will be set a Virtual Reality (VR) commemoration themed park, where to present all these fascinating stories. All the moments will be accessible as interactive multimedia items/symbols in the digital realm, extending the existence of the physical ones. In this paper we debate the importance of adapting information exposition, specifically the one regarding the culture, to the new digital environments available today. There are fears that globalization and new media will wear down the national culture and cultural heritage. We will analyze these aspects and we will show that Internet and VR can be not just spaces of social manifestation, but also of cultural presence, adding new dimensions to the Romanian cultural landscape. A better integration within the national identity improves the sense of well-being and the quality of existence for the Romanian citizens. The information gathered will serve to better understand how the facts are best perceived and learned by users in the virtual environments and how to improve this technology-enhanced learning technique.

Abstract:

Abstract:
A page of history is now at 100 hundred years rewritten and the digital media and authors use it for promotion. The study has two parts, historical facts and a short analyse on the tools used to promote it. Historical context starts, on June 5, 1918, the Treaty of Peace imposed on Romania by the Central Powers was ratified by Parliament and forwarded to the King for promulgation; he postponed the signing of this treaty. As the French army began to cross the Danube, on November 10, at Giurgiu, Zimnicea, Turnu Magurele and other points, the Romanian army re-joined the war, Romania proving "de facto" that it is in the allied camp. In this setting, on 11 November 1918, the Compiegne Armistice, between Germany and the Allied Powers, was signed, acknowledging, among other things, the caducity of the Bucharest Peace Treaty. At the same time, the end of the war brought with it the completion of the process of unification of all the Romanian provinces under one standard. And as the complete unity of Romania could not have been made without the inhabitants of Transylvania, the "cradle of the formation of the Romanian nation" for which the Romanian army had crossed the Carpathians, on 18 November / 1 December 1918, the Great National Assembly in Alba Iulia voted "the unification of all the territories inhabited by the Romanians from the former Austro-Hungarian monarchy with Romania". The digital development of this page of history was approached by both historians and media. The study show that the papers has a 27% of the covering of the event, the rest being covert by various encyclopaedia, blogs and essays. By channel by far Facebook covers the news on that event followed by Youtube and What’s Up.

Abstract:
At the international and national level there is a strong connection between culture and tourism, tourism representing an important factor of the economic development by capitalizing the tourist potential of the cultural elements. Romania has a rich and valuable heritage potential with tourist attractions included on the map of European cultural routes. The challenge for Romania is the weak promotion of the cultural tourism due to the difficulties in developing a better infrastructure for a high accessibility to cultural attractions. The literature offers a wide range of definitions of cultural tourism which emphasize the complexity of this phenomenon. The Romanian literature lacks a thorough documentation on the cultural tourism as a whole, most of studies being concentrated on general approaches i.e. introduction to cultural tourism, analysis of the cultural tourism trends, sustainable development and perspectives, Romanian heritage, promoting strategies. Some papers are concentrated on specific areas of Romania such as Transylvania, with the medieval cities, fortresses and castles, Bucovina, with the painted monasteries and traditional artefacts, Maramureş, with the rural tourism and cultural heritage, as well as Black Sea Coast and Danube Delta. Other papers are related to cultural attractions like museums, orchestra performances, restaurants, hotels in some developed areas, and to traditional or religious rituals, popular art or folklore events in some less developed areas and how they could promote and revive the Romanian tourism or other areas with a low or medium level of capitalization of cultural attractions. Within this broader context, the paper aims to review and discuss the definitions and concepts of cultural tourism in Romania and identify the main types of cultural tourism practiced and addressed by the literature.

Abstract:
Romanian wine producers/sellers face today – as in any other European (market) economy – challenges specific to such merchandise as alcoholic beverages, of which wines are a part, which, unlike (almost) any other type of product, can destroy consumers and therefore alter the very fabric of consumption process and mechanisms. These consumption limitations take their toll on any wine producer (or seller)’s capacity of profit maximising and can only add to the effects of a powerful foreign competition – which, in Romania, is more than ‘able’ to monopolise selling of most expensive wines –, and of the very reality Romania is (in relative terms) so poor a country that average level of consumers’ revenues simply cannot ‘insure’ – not for all, that is – profit maximising concept turning into reality. For all these reasons, a price strategy in the Romanian wine market is both indispensable and challenging.

The Romanian i ntelligence services have closely monitored the Soviet forces that occupied Bessarabia and northern Bukovina in June-July 1940. Between September 1940 and June 1941, special attention was paid to Soviet aviation (aerodromes, aviation units, types of aircraft, doctrine, etc.) located on Romania's borders. On June 22, 1941, when the conflict between Germany and allies (including Romania) and the USSR began, the Romanian army had pertinent information about the Soviet armies in Bessarabia and Bukovina, especially about the air force. These data were used by Romanian-German forces to take by surprise the Soviet aeronautics and annihilate them.

Abstract:
This paper is a study of the infringement procedure, as it is regulated at EU level. Thus, we first analyze the existing legal framework on the matter. The implementation of this procedure in various Member States of the European Union and its consequences are then presented. Last but not least, the article refers to a series of aspects regarding the fields in which the procedure was directed against Romania since its integration into the EU. The purpose of the essay is to present in detail Romania's situation regarding the violation of EU’s law. Thus, a comparative presentation throughout time of the number of such proceedings launched against the Romanian state was made.A relevant case in which Romania was tried and convicted was also presented in detail. The large number of cases launched in 2021 highlights the delays registered by Romania on the matter. The measures ordered by the Romanian government through the elaborated the Annual Transposition Plan-2021must be carefully and systematically implemented. Romania could also consider and effectively apply the examples of good practice from the other EU’s member states. The historical and the comparative methods used in this presentation reveal both the similarities between the application of this procedure in the EU Member States under review as well as the differences and its succession in time. The article is important not only for the scientists, but also for the practitioners to dispose all the necessary measures that are required.

Abstract:
This study aimed to identification of an ecological alternative for the chemical disinfection of soil in the greenhouses from Romania. Tomato (Solanum lycopersicum L.) is one of the most popular vegetable crops in the world. The carbohydrate, vitamins, salts of important mineral elements and organic acids content of tomato fruits is very important. Tomato crops are very sensitive to climatic vagaries, so fluctuation in climatic parameters at any phase of growth can affect the yield and the fruit quality. Grafting on Solanaceae is a method which has improved and spread quickly during the past years, a similar approach to crop rotation, a practice meant to increase productivity, resistance or tolerance to biotic and abiotic stress factors and at increasing fruit quality. The research was conducted in a glass greenhouse of the Horting Institute, Bucharest, Romania. The biological material used was a Romanian tomato hybrid (Siriana F1), a Dutch tomato hybrid (Abellus F1) and four rootstocks, a Dutch tomato hybrid (Emperador F1) and three Romanian tomato cultivars (L542, L543 and L544) obtained from the Research and Development Station for Vegetable Growing, Buzău, Romania. The rootstocks have had resistance to biotic stress factors (soil diseases and pests) and the chemical disinfection of soil has was eliminated. The result of this research are presented in this paper.

Constantin, Sergiu. ECMI Minorities Blog. Romanians and Moldovans in Ukraine and their kin states’ engagement before and after the war – towards a triadic partnership for effective minority protection? European Centre for Minority Issues, November 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.53779/kjkj1212.

Full text
Abstract:
Ukraine recognizes Romanian and Moldovan as distinct minority languages, even though the official language of the Republic of Moldova is Romanian. This distinction between Romanian and Moldovan is not merely a symbolic matter, it has practical, negative consequences for members of the minority communities concerned. Since the 1990s, Ukrainian-Romanian relations have been affected by mutual distrust rooted in historical resentments, stereotypes, and prejudice at the level of both political elites and the general public. Moldova and Ukraine have experienced ups and downs in their bilateral relations due to the complex geopolitical context and growing Russian interference. The ongoing Russian war against Ukraine has had a strong impact on Moldova and Romania as well as on their kin minority communities in Ukraine. This war marks a turning point in history. It has caused tectonic shifts in global affairs, in the Euro-Atlantic community, and in national politics and interstate relations. Ukraine, Romania, and Moldova can turn the ongoing crisis into an opportunity to reset their (dysfunctional) bilateral relations. It is high time for a paradigm shift towards a new, enhanced triadic partnership which is able to ensure an effective system of minority protection.

Prisacariu, Roxana. Swiss immigrants’ integration policy as inspiration for the Romanian Roma inclusion strategy. Fribourg (Switzerland): IFF, 2015. http://dx.doi.org/10.51363/unifr.diff.2015.05.

Full text
Abstract:
While the knowledge on immigrants’ integration consolidated through the last 50 years, the Roma studies and the research on the Roma inclusion seems at the beginning. The purpose of this research was to assess if and to what extent the Swiss experience in immigrants’ integration may inspire an efficient approach to Roma inclusion in the Romanian society. After highlighting conceptual vagueness, resemblance and difference in the overall social status of Romanian Roma and immigrants in Switzerland and official approaches to the integration or inclusion of each, the research concludes that the Romanian policy on Roma inclusion presumably can be better anchored in the integration conceptual framework and benefit from immigrants’ integration experience. The Romanian choice for framing its Roma policy as ‘inclusion’ rather than for ‘integration’ may be appropriate as it applies to a historic minority of citizens needing social justice. The use of an immigration integration policy as model for a Roma inclusion strategy is limited due to the stronger legit-imation of historic minorities for shared-ownership of public decision-making. That is the Swiss example of immigrants’ integration could only serve Romania as a minimum standard for its Roma inclusion strategy. It can benefit from the Swiss experience on immigrant's integration policy in terms of conception, coordination, monitoring and transparency may be beneficial, while the Roma political participation may find inspiration from the Swiss linguistic communities’ participatory mechanisms. The on-going reciprocal learning process connecting academia and public authorities able to transform science into action and experience in knowledge may inspire the Romanian authorities.

Abstract:
Once considered a partial exception to the recent diffusion of populism worldwide, Romania saw Radical Right populism return to Parliament in 2020. The Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR) successfully campaigned on a platform of defending the Christian faith, freedom, the traditional family, and the nation. Although the party was initially considered the result of individual entrepreneurship linked to its founding leaders, it has successfully built on diffused networks of societal activism whose origins could be traced back to the early 2000s. However, the AUR’s track record of discourse aligned with Kremlin rhetoric calling for Western economic, political and cultural hegemony to be resisted and rolled back saw a temporary decline in voters’ support for the party. However, the party managed to rebuild consensus strategically by drawing on voters’ increased anxiety regarding the economic effects of the war. This report offers a cogent analysis of the political performance of the AUR, examining the party’s formative phase as well as its evolution since 2020, alongside a discussion of the impact of the war in Ukraine on Romanian party politics.
