Touya, Aurore. "La polyphonie romanesque au XXème siècle (corpus en langues anglaise, espagnole et française)." Thesis, Paris 4, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012PA040251.
Full textThe XXth century witnesses the appearance of a new type of novelistic narrative : in the U.S.A as well as in Latin America and in France, an increasing number of polyphonic novels are published, whose structure relies on the voices of characters who tell one after the other the story they have in common. The omniscient narrator is replaced by a multiplicity of voices and by direct penetration of consciousness. This thesis focuses on nine of these polyphonic novels, which were selected due to their paradigmatic status and because of the dialogue they build with one another. They all are inspired by new conceptions of the mind that place subjectivity at their center, and use experimental devices that underline the quest of the novelists seeking an equivalent between words, feelings and thoughts. These texts allow games that show how theories of the novel as a puzzle and as a trial are being moulded, while opening to other genres such as theatre and poetry and questioning the novel’s absorption capacity. But most of all, the polyphonic pattern appears as a crucial stake for the contemporary world that gave birth to these novels: the fragmentation of the narrative, now shared among characters, questions the link between voice and ideology and the relationship between speech and reality. The multiplicity of voices makes the living and the dead share the pages of the book and gives the novel a power that goes beyond the limits of human condition while offering a new definition of the concept of truth
Carre, Philippe. "La démythification du terroir dans le roman autrichien de la seconde moitié du XXème siècle." Rennes 2, 2003. http://www.theses.fr/2003REN20023.
Full textThe traditional picture of the Austrian land was that of a cosy place to live in. Nevertheless, this idyllic vision was given up after 1945 by contemporary authors whose aim is to criticize Heimat. They all want to destroy the myth of a beautiful nature, of a friendly rural society, of a salutary religion. All these writers demystify landscapes in decay. Like nature men and women suffer from physical and psychological diseases, they are just waiting for death. Even Catholicism which means here violence, hypocrisy and intolerance won't help them to survive because it's about to disappear too. The way the authors demystify Heimat allows them to criticize an Austrian society which alienates people. They write a biting social critique without creating anything else for the country. That's the reason why we can say they don't want to see a new Heimat arise. Through this total destruction Austria and Austrian people are lost for ever: how meaningful the words finis austriae are !

Full textWith the study of Roman Karmen’s cinematographic work, we want to retrace a heritage and to identify its implications through an historiographical approach. Not only did the Soviet filmmaker’s images go down in history but they also contributed to shape the twentieth century into a single object. Indeed, the metonymic properties of Karmen’s shootings (cinematographic photography and live action) upset our perception and contributed to build an historical account that sustains a new order. It is a complex visual narrative bringing together live action and staging, subjects and emblems, main characters, secondary characters and anonymous masses. Disseminated, Roman Karmen’s work is the main reservoir of “archival images” often used by contemporary documentary filmmakers as a mean to present “first-hand History”. Following Roman Karmen’s artistic itinerary allows us to gain a better understanding of these images: their initial purposes, their making process, and their relationships in a work within which story merges with History. We assume that this narrative consisting of pictures, cinematic newsreels, and documentary films shaped the “Soviet vulgate of history”
Zoubovitch, Olga. "Le tragique comme catégorie critique dans la pensée littéraire française du XXème siècle." Thesis, Paris 4, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012PA040115.
Full textThe category of tragedy is usually linked with tragedy as a literary and theatrical type. In reality, it is a category embracingall types of arts. Besides, it is the object of different sciences: philosophical, literary, theatrical.Firstly, our reflexion will be focused on tragedy as vision of the world, as category at the same time, as illustratedby Lucien Goldmann, of theoretical, emotional order. Tragedy is unthinkable without its relation to the value system.Secondly, we will study tragic conflict at the root of this vision as insolvable conflict between the man and the world, thebeing and existence. During our review of the tragic vision, we will show his kinship with the existentialist vision aspresented in Albert Camus's work. Our study will address various aspects of the tragedy in particular: its nature, the opposition of the tragic vision tothe rationalist vision, the conditions for the appearance of the tragic, its relationship with the Myth and optimism-pessimismcategories, the question of the eventual disposition of the tragic etc.We will examine tragedy under the light of theoretical concepts of the authors of our critical corpus, in forms whichit takes in Greek tragedy, tragedy of Racine, in novel of Dostoïevski and in the Camus's work
Cominetti, Philippe. "L'inspiration scientifique dans le roman post-naturaliste : du naturalisme français à la littérature japonaise du premier XXème siècle." Bordeaux 3, 2005. http://www.theses.fr/2005BOR30005.
Full textBy considering the way scientific elements are integrated in naturalist fiction, as well as in post-naturalist novels, this dissertation aims at defining the features of a textual norm ((the so-called "realistic-code")from the double point of view of poetics and ideology. With French texts as a starting point and a Japanese corpus (1895-1960) considered as a case study, transmission of French naturalism (Zola's theoretical discourse, and anatomical imagination) and development of scientific inspiration in the Japanse context of tremendous modernization -which implies enhanced presence of science and technical objects- shall be pondered. The first part deals with scientific inspiration in the naturalist context, where it is defined as dissemination (alteration of rationality, visualization, production of objects) and qualified as genesis of subsequents forms. These forms, examined in a second part along a historical perspective relate to texts progressively structured according to the "systemic organization of technical objects". In the third part, hermeneutical tools are provided for the previous description, leading to the hypothesis of a fetishistic structure of scientific inspiration. Beyond such a local interpretation of naturalism's outgrowth, it shall be possible to reconsider French and European Literature, thus providing insights about the nature of fiction in realist texts, and the correlation between the questions of science and the subject
Thesis, Artois, 2016. http://www.theses.fr/2016ARTO0009.
Full textThe simple evocation of Arsène Lupin causes the insurance of an entertainment carried out until its hilarious term. He opens in us the doors of imaginary pleasant, made historical mysteries, memorable wealths and adventures. At once the marked fabulous name that a silhouette emerges which approved us, that well-known of a merry, tempting and retributive burglar. A character above laws and of the roofs, out of commun run, critical and whose multiple adventures pose the stones founders of an art nouveau in literature. Appeared for the first time in 1905, within the magazine I know all, the gentleman-burglar knew, since, remarkable and incomparable longevity. Since, the character of Arsène Lupin does not cease fascinating and fertilizing the imagination of his readers until phagocytosing the name even of his creator. Maurice Leblanc is then a name which falls into the lapse of memory while that of Arsène Lupin acquires on his side a certain autonomy. Throughout their multiple publications, the extraordinary adventures of Arsène Lupin deploy a range of texts particularly favourable with new generic and aesthetic explorations, an experimental and fundamental tank with the development of a new reflection on the detective novel in France
Paris 10, 2009. http://www.theses.fr/2009PA100090.
Full textThis study aims to analyse the way popular speech is represented in several French novels of the second half of the 20th century (1966-2006). The theoretical part offers definitions of the polysemous concepts of ‘orality’ and ‘popular’; linguistic markers are also presented which, from the sociolectic standpoint, are frequently treated as connoting popular speech. The analysis of the phenomena of popular orality which the 1966-2006 corpus demonstrates, and likewise the synthesis of the data provided in the second and third parts, allow the author to highlight changes in the way popular speech has been represented in literature over this period, with reference to the first half of the century as well. Furthermore, this study shows that popular language, as reconstructed by the writers, is an artefact, based on a perspective of the spoken language shifting between its actual and its imagined use. Popular language as it is represented is therefore a decoy, based on the use of a code. In the last analysis, the author poses the question as to whether popular language really exists, or whether in fact it concerns an operational notion rather than a true linguistic phenomenon

Full textIncest, a notorious universal taboo, is an ancient protean theme in literature. According to Peter Thorslev, writers are drawn to this theme because of its powerful dramatization of the conflict between an individual's desire and that of the society. This theory is applicable to the past tradition of romanticism, but it doesn't take into account the complexity of incest fictions written in Twentieth-century novels. The «proliferation of discourses on sex within the context of power itself » described by Foucault, along with the development of the politics of race and eugenics, explain how the incest theme is intertwined with another controversial concept : « race ». Novels no longer depict an individual fighting against society when they portray incest, but they think of human groups trying to define themselves, often by way of race. Confronting incestuous characters is not a means of drawing an obscure symbolic line between the civilized and the savages, but among citizens and non-citizens. In South Africa and the United States of America, where political fictions had defined the nation as a perfect family to justify the exclusion of non-white people from the community of citizens, « counter-fictions of incest » examine in provocative ways how citizenship and rights are articulated. I question the incest theme – forbidden desire or sexual violation– in novels from 1929 to 2005, by American writers such as W. Faulkner, T. Morrison, R. Ellison, G. Jones, Sapphire and by South African authors like D. Lessing, B. Head, A. Dangor, M. van Niekerk, and L. Rampolokeng. I outline the aesthetic and political evolution of the incest theme in novels written in those societies where community, nation and « race » were particularly interconnected, while simultaneously reflecting on the omnipresent reality of the crime of incest in all societies
Paris 3, 2005. http://www.theses.fr/2005PA030080.
Full textThe research of the connections between alchemy and literature shall be considered as a way through the literary works of seven authors (successively: Barjavel, Saint-Exupéry, Calvino, Coelho, Eco, Yourcenar, Butor), in order to determine the conditions of exchange between the imaginary of alchemic cosmogony and the fictional universe created by each author. This research, starting from the texts which propose involuntary relatives of imaginary to those which representation of the Grand Oeuvre becomes mimetic, should provide for a global view of the phenomenon of alchemy in literature which would allow, by releasing semantic invariants from narrative configuration and from the request of sense of the texts, to create general reading guidelines, proposing accurate criteria. These criteria, by defining the principals of an alchemic fiction as a new literary object would allow, being applied to any new text, to consider such new text as an alchemic fiction or not. This comparative exercise shall allow reflecting the exchange between literature and its exogenous speeches, in order to understand how literature reproduces and multiplies such speeches

Full textThe principal objective of our research work is the study of the evolution of the translation of novels (from French into Persian) in the 20th century through the analysis of the translations of Mohammad Ghâzi (1913-1997), one of the famous Iranian translators. In the conceptual framework of our thesis we have focused on three types of contemporary theories, namely: linguistic, philosophical and traductological. In the Iranian polysystem between the years 1940-2000, we have contextualized the activity of translation in general and that of French literature in particular. We have attempted to define the role of the translation of French literature in the Iranien polysystem during the period under consideration. We have dedicated the last part of our thesis to the study of the translations of Mohammad Ghâzi. To clarify the translation process used by Ghâzi, we have performed a comparative analysis of the Persian translation of Antoine de saint-Exupery’s The Little Prince by Ghâzi, Shâmlou and Najafi. This analysis aims to address how to translate various literary effects from one language to another and to explain the impact of the language or discourse as well as the role of the translator’s subjectivity on the methodology applied by Ghâzi in the field of translation
Baglivo, Beatrice. "La genèse de Kaputt : reportage, journal et récit." Electronic Thesis or Diss., Université Côte d'Azur, 2022. http://theses.univ-cotedazur.fr/2022COAZ2001.
Full textComposed and published at the end of a decade of narrative experimentation, Kaputt constitutes the first sign of Curzio Malaparte’s artistic maturity and, in the broader panorama of the 20th century, a still little-known link between pre- and post-war literary experiences. Through the analysis of the articles published in «La Stampa» and «Corriere della Sera» and analysis of the pieces of work that, from the end of the 1920s onwards, significantly marked the writer’s career – the collections of short stories published between 1931 and 1940, Il sole è cieco, Il Volga nasce in Europa – we have analyzed the evolution of Malaparte’s literary writing. In the study of the genesis of Kaputt, particular importance is placed upon the Giornale segreto, the writer’s diary preserved in the Malaparte collection of the Fondazione Biblioteca di via Senato in Milan, which represents the true foreword to the work
Saldana, Esther. "Concha Espina, du journalisme au roman engagé (1880-1955)." Thesis, Pau, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019PAUU1066.
Full textConcha Espina’s literary production has too often been neglected because of her particular background and controversial beliefs. The aim of this piece of research is to highlight the work of a writer who passionately defended her socio-political convictions during the first half of the 20th century. Her writing, which first appeared in the press at the very end of the twentieth century, was influenced by the numerous literary currents of her time. Concha Espina made those currents her own. This thesis proposes a different outlook on the social engagement of her work, which is fully in keeping with en era of deep societal change. The first publications in the regional press formed the foundations of her novels, mainly centered on the observation of the landscape and the resulting social claims as in La Esfinge maragata (1914), El metal de los muertos (1920) and El cáliz rojo (1923).Concha Espina’s political beliefs, her support of the fascist ideals in the 1930s and of the Franco regime, result from her background. They are also at the origin of the silence around the name of a woman who wrote relentlessly in order to lead a life free from any personal or professional dependence. This research work aims at improving the image of an author unjustly relegated to the background of the Spanish literary scene
Carretta, Simona. "Il principio compositivo della variazione su tema nel romanzo del Novecento." Thesis, Paris 4, 2012. http://www.theses.fr/2012PA040281.
Full textTheme and variation, a formal technique that is popular mainly through its applications within music, in particular thanks to contributions by artists such as Bach, Beethoven or Schönberg, nevertheless has expressive potentials that go beyond the boundaries of this art. In particular, it is in the novel that the use of variation as a composing principle, implying the presentation of a single central theme or motif by different perspectives (that may correspond to the point of view of different characters, or to different amounts of time elapsed from the actual happening of an event to its narration), seems to lend itself as the ideal device to achieve the main cognitive objective of this art, that is the unveiling of the substantial relativity of all things. While novelists such has Milan Kundera or Danilo Kiš seem to have developed, in their work, the theme and variation technique as a principle that is functional to an organic and uniform form of composition, ideally focused on a single theme, in other novels, such as If on a winter's night a traveler (1979) by Italo Calvino or Variations Goldberg (1981) by Nancy Huston, the variations are disposed so as to acquire a serial connotation. In those latter cases, the theme and variation technique is used as a functional principle for the disaggregation of the matter of the novel, rather than as a composition technique

Full textThis thesis analyzes and questions the processes of protection and development of the Punic and Roman archaeological heritage in Tunisia since the setting up of administrative structures dedicated to its management and development. This work is focused on three pivotal concepts: identifying, preserving and developing. It begings with the identification of the archaeological heritage in question to show its architectural, urban, aesthetic and historic values on the one hand, and list on the other hand the actions undertaken to preserve it through the study of an extanded corpus gathering all the ancient Punic and Roman cities Tunisia numbers. Then, and in order to figure out the problem of preserving this heritage, this thesis looks into the way the national heritage policy came into being in Tunisia through recalling the historical framework which gave birth to laws relating to the protection and management of the archaeological heritage and analyzing the objectives of the current national policy. Finally, the outcome of this work is devoted to prospects for the improvement of the archaeological heritage in Tunisia, while integrating it into a regional and national sustainable development process. This redifining of the heritage can be achieved through sharing and disseminating it to secure its passing on
Serveau, Karine. "Les métamorphoses de l’écriture de la transcendance dans l’œuvre romanesque de Georges Bernanos." Thesis, Paris 4, 2010. http://www.theses.fr/2010PA040082.
Full textConfronting fictional narrative writing and transcendence thanks to the metamorphosis that the novelist Georges Bernanos had been subjecting his work to for its twenty years’ development requires a threefold critical approach: generic, genetic, hermeneutic. The generic study makes it clear how the eight narrations are challenged to integrate a theological, metaphysical and mystical concept in a fictional setting with a non-reductive novel. Genetic analysis is pointing out a metamorphosis’s topography and timeline of the writing in the corrected crossed-out hand-written page, and in the completed fiction work, not to mention the homogeneous self-block consisting in the scriptural and structural unit of a novel. The hermeneutic investigation reveals the two preferred deployment means of this writing: the Bible as textual transcendence and the Christian mystical adventure as incarnate transcendence

Full textThis PhD thesis questions the label « Ecole romaine » (also known as Scuola romana) used to designate a group of painters and sculptors in Rome between 1918 and 1945. We aim to understand the reasons for the success of this expression until now. We use various methods in order to investigate the discourses of both art critics and scholars as well as more fictional texts, often written as testimonies. Furthermore, this work analyses the singular career of each artist and the reception of their works in order to consider the Ecole Romaine within a history of taste in Italy and abroad. Our study follows a chronological development. First, we analyse the reception of the School when active, between 1918 and 1945. Then, we examine the place of our artists in post-war Italy, in a context of great political divisions. Finally, we study how, in the early 1980s, various actors on the artistic scene tried to raise the value of the Ecole Romaine's works on the art market. What were the results of their attempt, and to what extent this renewal of interest had a lasting impact, especially in the museums field ? The questions of artistic modernity and of the relationship between the Ecole Romaine and the fascist regime are central in this research. These constitute new approaches to a theme which has remained relatively unknown outside of Italy

Full textThe style and composition of Quixote evince how disappointed Cervantes was as a man of the stage. The massive dialogue forms, the structure, the characteristic oral aspect, and the aura the characters benefit from contribute to create an appealing spiral which favours the transposition of the novel. Three main literary devices: the ellipsis, the condensation and the invention predominate in the adaptation forms thus giving birth to six recent stage productions, from now liberated their text. The rewriting task doesn't consist in a collage of particularly dramatic fragments. On the contrary, each author has selected a preferential vision on which a real dramatic art has been composed. Thus putting forward notions of fidelity or misinterpretation does not seem to operate ; a dramatization of Don Quixote does not consist in making the novel lively on stage but in recreating autonomous characters in a different universe which has its particularity, codes and laws. The up-to-date thematic organizes itself around two elements which constitute the novel: madness and comedy. None of the dramatists in our study venture to deny the hidalgo's insanity, but its importance and significance give rise to many divergences. According to the different versions, madness reveals itself as being hopeless or at the root of strange powers materializing chimaeras. Under this cover the old gentleman hypertrophies the critical verve shown by his romantic counterpart, thus making fully use of the power of craziness. One of the main quality the authors we are studying, is to hightlight the comic aspect. Our work brings to light the durability of technics capable of rousing laughter, and the conditions required to its blossoming. Thus, by means of the transposition process, Don Quixote, which is a deep and amusing, noble and cheerful instructive entertainment, regains its original gist. First borrowing its quintessence from the novel, the theatre gives it, its modern vision and its new strength involving the public to (re)discover the huge richness of the text

Full textThis thesis analyses the tendencies manifested throughout the XXth century within the Polish society toward all ethnical groups inhabiting the Polish area. This study helps to understand the constitutive elements of the Polish contemporary identity formed of successive stratums including a tolerant legitimity, a patronizing sensibility and some ethnocentric feelings. The imbrication of ethnical, social, geopolitical, religious and ideological problems in the Polish territories made difficult, for the poles as for their neighbours, to develop a good understanding of the realities and to elaborate a coherent national project corresponding to the interests of each ethnical group living in the Polish area. The numerous shocks suffered by the poles all over the XXth century explain why the situation we described has made difficult up till now the cristallisation of a modernized Polish personality integrated to its cultural and regional environment

Full textThe methodological and theoretician difficulty to establish a single criterion that intend to explain exactly the fantastic literature, does not try to delimit neither to give a unique reading, this would be contradicting the gender itself. Exactly the notion of the unknown, the strange, and the unusual is what constitutes the base of the modern fantastic gender. The relevance of a study specialized in the Mexican fantastic story is based on the following argument: in the Mexican literature what has dominated is the realistic speech and the literary critical studies have concentrated on the reflection of elements of the narrative since this realistic perspective. We selected fourteen Mexican authors of the 20th century due to the substantially fantastic elements on some of their short story work. Of each narrator we selected at least one story grouping them according to the themes and motives shared

Full textToday, Provence vineyard is the first worldwide rosé wine producer. Its notoriety is recent with the appellations d’origine contrôlée at the end of the twentieth century. Yet, the story of that area – vine cradle in France - isn’t known for fines wines even though some quality wines were famous before phylloxera. After that crisis, the vine has recovered her omnipresence in the agricultural landscape. During the first half of the twentieth century, Provence vineyard has mainly produced ordinary wines. But it has known a total transformation in a few decades. The aim of our work is to understand how its production has changed from ordinary wines to quality wines.Appellation constructions with their differences and their originalities are our principal problematic, especially those of « Côtes de Provence », « Coteaux d’Aix-en-Provence » and « Coteaux Varois-en-Provence », because they are the largest, they have never been studied before and their comparison shows specificities. While there are similar terroirs and characteristics, those are three singular histories in socioeconomic and socio-political different contexts. These histories were preceded by the pioneer appellations d’origine controlée, with also specific environments (« Cassis », « Bandol », « Bellet », « Palette ») and they have carried on with the latest ones, « Les Baux-en-Provence », then « Coteaux de Pierrevert », which is the most unexpected one

Full textThe detailed analysis of the emergence of modern architecture is followed by the determination of the forces exerted on it, and to which it more or less owes its true physiognomy. Modern architecture originally owes its conception to the pressures exerted by structural forces. The influence of technology, in particular, gives rise to a new aesthetics; that of the plane surface. In what came next, industrialization transformed architecture thoroughly, by calling beauty itself into question. Architectural composition transcends in its entirely the domain of art, to ascend to an economic-social or scientific level. By examining the social and ideological forces we gain insight into the consequences brought about by means of having put to practice, pioneering architectural theories for a utilitarian and functional architecture. In post war years contemporary architects, with their naive faith in rationalism, will lead manking to a state of alienation, so much from the fruits of their own labour as from the natural world itself

Full textNeologisms of Slavic origin which officially came into use in French vocabulary throughout the 20th century as a result of various exchanges between France and the Slavic countries, as far as their formation is concerned, belong to four lexical categories: borrowed words, derivatives, calques and acronyms. All of these terms are classified into several groups, first of all according to their language of origin (Russian, Czech, Polish, Bulgarian, Serbo-Croatian, and Slavonic) and then, within the framework of each language, semantically, according to the fields in which they are used. Research, based on literary language and that of the French and French-speaking press, testifies to the predominance of Russianisms. Each neologism is analyzed phonetically, morphologically, semantically and pragmatically; a list of the variations of meaning, usage and spelling between the two documentary sources is established, thus allowing for an understanding of usages and interpretations that dictionaries do not always reflect. The analysis of the body of the press also enables the recognition of the appearance of a considerable number of unassimilated neologisms stemming from the Slavic languages, mainly in the political and social domain, which are not yet listed in reference dictionaries

Full textAfter centuries of neglect of the biggest killers in France called pulmonary tuberculosis, the state legislates in 1850 to lead his fight. The law against substandard housing should address various harmful factors for the health of the individual. Moisture, darkness and promiscuity were behind the emergence of this contagious disease especially among the working class. Nevertheless, the study of this legislation reveals its responsibility for this legislation reveals its responsibility for the amplification of TB scourge throughout the country, thus depleting the economic and social level. The law of 1850 on the substandard housing has many inconsistencies to eradicate tuberculosis. This finding highlights the fragility of France in the development of the struggle. During the First World War, various specialized health institutions were built as clinics and sanatoriums. These establishments diminished massively tuberculosis mortality despite inconsistencies in their respective legislation. Aided by the United States France was actively organize TB propaganda. The eradication of tuberculosis caused by the discovery of BCG vaccine in 1921

Full textThis thesis intends to renew the view on Claude Monet by shifting the attention paid to him and his work from the 19th century towards the 20th century. Often perceived through the prism of Impressionism of which he would be the “father” and associated with this from the 1870s and 1880s, the painter overflows the image by many aspects far less known. By focusing on the first decades of the 20th century in France, this thesis allows the understanding of this situation. The current fame of Monet, who died in 1926, is based on a “legend” of the artist, a biographical rewriting spread by the interviews he began to give to the press in 1900. This legend nevertheless conceals what the painter’s endeavour was reacting against: a wave of criticism hostile to Monet, developed in these same decades and based on the observation of an evolution of his painting, which had begun with the series, perceived as now turned towards abstraction. If, for some critics, this indefiniteness of the painting represented an opportunity to look at it through the theme of “magic”, making Monet an enchanter endowed with illusionist and troubling powers, in this between wars atmosphere it rather appeared like the ultimate “disintegration” of tradition and classicism which was the essence of an intellectual and artistic injunction to “construction” to return to order. “Monet is only an eye, but what an eye!” Cézanne’s phrase, historiographical topos narrowing his painting to the representation of reality, is only one of the modalities of this encounter between a reactionary modernity and an anachronistic painter whose image, inseparable from the understanding of his work, is here redeployed

Full textWith the bergsonian legacy, Jean Wahl wants to defend a Metaphysic concerned with the concrete. Between Soren Kierkegaard and William James, he builds for himself a Metaphysic of intensity. From his 1920 thesus "The pluralist philosophies of England and America" to his last work in 1963 "The Metaphysical experience", he proposes to build a real "Transcendental empiricism" which is based in the aporetic of the instant. He describes the dialectic process of mind encountering the real. His empirism can be defined as realism. He bridges James Whitehead's empirism with Husserl's meditations. Jean Wahl questions all the XX th century major philosophical orientations : phenomenology, existensialism, structuralist, marxism, logical positivism. As a poet, metaphysician, editor of revues and instigator of philosophical meetings, Wahl militates for a "broadening of philosophy"

Full textThe thesis The Uncanny Tale in the Twentieth Century French Literature concerns the category of short fiction oscillating between the fantastic and the marvellous and it points out the existence of a new type of tale in the twentieth century French literature. The term "uncanny tale” is in not frequent in critical discourse, though some theoreticians, like M. Guiomar, J. -B. Renard and J. Goimard, have been interested in the concept of the uncanny. The aim of this study is to characterize the essential features of the uncanny tale and advance a definition of the category on the basis of short fictions of G. Apollinaire, M. Aymé, G. -O. Châteaureynaud, P. Gripari, M. Schneider, J. Supervielle, B. Vian or M. Yourcenar, not to mention the most famous authors. Reading and examining the uncanny tale or short stories, which classification remains ambiguous, accentuate two aspects: how the uncanny is created and how it should be read. The formation of the uncanny universe consists of choosing its particular figures, time and space. The perception of this category is subject to the reader’s knowledge of culture codes and intertextuality of the uncanny tales

Full textThe British Labour Party was born with the 20th century. The number of analyses published on this topic is plethoric. The studies narrating its history since its first day abound. Yet, a comparison, inevitably too brief, between the image of the movement passed on from one decade to the next, and the reality of the facts reveals significant differences between both. Once the true impact of previously given explanations is assessed, it becomes clear that the conception of the history of the party generally shared by the members of the party itself, as well as by British public opinion as a whole, does not reflect the fundamentally heterogeneous character of its identity. Nor does it take into account the impact of the strategic dimension essential to most labour leaders. Thus, this study emphasises the link between historical truth and image, ideological factors and tactical considerations throughout the progression of this political movement. It does not amount to a fully exhaustive account of its history, but endeavours to examine its basic principles in all their complexity, distinct for its global approach, chronologically, its attempt at going beyond the perceptions widely accepted as obvious, as well as for the deliberate integration of the strategic dimension into its historical perspective. It rests on a thorough analysis of the interrelation between action and representation in relation to the evolution of the party throughout the 20th century

Full textThe analyzed period, 1880- 1916 (the interval between the year of the first issue of Literatorul and the year when Romania entered World War I) is often ignored, at least when it comes to minor symbolists who, even if they will not succeed to elevate to the standards of symbolist poetry, creating more like Eminescu, nevertheless they will keep with strictness the specific symbolist themes: the floral universe, the Satanism, the autumn, the musical instruments. My attempt is to analyze the beginnings of Romanian symbolism, to reconstruct the poetic outset surrounding Literatorul , including not only the general opinion about this literary current but also the sources of inspiration, the critics’ opinion, the programmatic context of the literary circle, and finally, as a novelty my thesis brings, some studies about minor symbolists who were never the object of a detailed analyze. Without trying to be a direction study our thesis is rather a dossier unexamined for a long time by the literary justice and now by presenting each aspect of their creation may represent a “pleading for reconsideration”

Full textIf everyone might have an opinion about populism, the political science stays silent when it's about giving a exact definition. This work's aim is first to go deep in that movement, and second to try to explain why it first occured in th United States of America, especialy in the deep Old South. After having given our own definition of populism, we have to explain, on the one hand, what are the characteres of this special area called "South". That means evoking history, geography, race and a lot of dailylife aspects. We will longer focuse about the dominance of religion and firearms that helps to understand th southern accent of populism. We will also face the psychological aspects of the South, so that we can easily understand why this part of the US territory stands as a nation. On the second hand, we will go from the Antebellum times until now, to understand the political roots of populism, from the protesting farmers of the XVIIIth century to the 2002 presidential campaign. Evoking subjects as People's Party, Vanderbilt Af=grarians, State's Rights Party and Dixiecrats, and crossing politicians like W. Bryan, H. Long, G. Wallace, J. Carter and W. Clinton, will explain that populism is a personal, political and psychological behaviour that belongs to everypart of the political rainbow, but also a notion deeply rooted in american political culture

Full text"Woman and culture in Tunisia at the XX th century : particularities, social and political mutations". The subject contains many projects, but also contraditions! A lot of questions are able to be studied in different ways: political, historic, religious, social, economic and cultural, in order to treat the subject of woman condition in Tunisia in the XX th century. We have essentially refered to Islam and rationality, without forgetting the interest for the opening and the modernity. This point of vue has been expressed by the voices of Tunisian reformists since the xix th century. They have proposed a new way of reading the Coran and insisted about the necessity to reformulate the monarchy's cultural, social and political princips. Tahar Haddad has been a famous voice since 1930. His ideas has been defended by the president Bourguiba who has introduced them by law since 1956. At 1987, the president Ben Aly renforced the application of these princips. Is it a continuity, a remake or a propulsion of woman's rights, in fact, the economic conditions and the integrists (between 1970 and 1987) have totaly calmed these revendications

Full textIn literature, confessions can be inserted into novels. Confessions belong to the autobiographical genre and can show faults, sins and guilty behavior whereas novels belong to the fictional genre. Our work analyses the extent to which a new genre appears in the literary history, and most particularly in the 19th century. Indeed, the “novel confession” is a genre of the 19th century, with its own characteristics

Full textOur research is devoted to stained-glass work of the French artist Henri Guérin who was born in 1929 and who lives in Toulouse area. His stained-glass slab windows (dalle de verre) created in the 20th century (1954-2000) can be found in more than five hundred places, religious and public buildings and private properties, both in France and abroad. Our study falls in three periods. 1952-1966 : youthful style, from his first works ("glued fabrics") and his first stained-glass creations, 1955-1960 with Dom Socard, then 1961-1966 individually. 1967-1976 : ten intensive years of creative work alternating between important stained-glass windows, three dimensional research and the creation of tapestry works with the Pinton Felletin Factory. 1977-2000 : his stained-glass work is flourishing with great freedom in his means of expression, leading sometimes to figurative art. The aim of this study is to giving Henri Guérin a place in the history of stained-glass and contemporary art
