Abstract:

Abstract:
AbstractHallux valgus is one of the most common forefoot pathologies, with a multifactorial etiology that causes important functional impairment and metatarsalgia. The characteristic deformity originates from a biomechanical imbalance induced by the disruption of first metatarsophalangeal joint alignment and manifests as an abnormal weight transfer on the first ray during walking. Conservative treatment is unable to correct the deformity or stop the evolution of the disease but can distinctly control the symptoms. With time, a myriad of surgical correction techniques have been developed but no definitive surgical treatment algorithm has been generally accepted. Nonetheless, the decision process for choosing the suitable technique must be completed on an individual basis after considering the deformity severity stratification, status of the metatarsophalangeal and tarsometatarsal joints, bone anatomy, and associated comorbidities. In spite of a large variety of surgical options, there are a few main strategies that incorporate these variations: metatarsophalangeal and/or tarsometatarsal joint fusion, metatarsal osteotomies and soft tissue procedures. Nowadays, the surgical management of hallux valgus is dominated by first metatarsal osteotomies performed through open surgery or minimally invasive techniques. Hallux valgus angle has been found to be the single most important parameter for surgical outcome prognostic.

Abstract:
Abstract Introduction. Giant cell tumors of soft tissue (GCTs) have a relatively low incidence and their low prognosis is reserved to local relapses and distant metastases. This type of pathology usually affects adults and the elderly and it is localized in the extremities, most frequently in the thigh. Materials and methods. GCT is a relatively low aggressive tumor; approximately 85% of the patients survive at least 5 years after diagnosis. The risk factors for low prognosis are old age, metastases at the time of diagnosis, local relapse. We conducted this study in the University Emergency Hospital, Bucharest for a period of 3 years, between 01.01.2015 and 01.01.2018, which included 20 patients with ages between 22 and 83 years, of whom 9 were women and 11 were men. Results. Excision with safety margins was performed for all patients. During surgery, tissue samples from 6 different areas were sent for extemporaneous examination. After excision, the histopathological examination was performed and the diagnosis of GCT was established. Localized forms were described in 16 cases; diffuse forms were identified in 4 cases and loco-regional recurrences in 3 cases. Pre or postoperative adjuvant treatment was not applied in any of the cases. Conclusions. GCT is a rare, potentially malignant pathology, in which case evolution is unfavorable. From the clinical and imaging point of view, it is difficult to establish this diagnosis due to the large variety of pathologies it can be mistaken for, making biopsy an essential step within the diagnostic algorithm. Election treatment is represented by local excision with safety margins.

Abstract:
AbstractIntroduction: Lateral patellar dislocation (LPD) is a common injury of the knee, most frequent in young patients. It has a multifactorial etiology with several underlying risk factors. In most cases, patellar dislocation occurs on the lateral side, with the rupture of the medial patellofemoral ligament (MPFL), appearing in more than 80% of the cases. The tibial tuberosity-trochlear groove (TT-TG) distance of 20 mm or more in patients with lateral patellar dislocation is a gold standard for the surgical indication of tibial tubercle osteotomy (TTO).Hypothesis: Our investigation aimed to establish whether there is a correlation between the TT-TG distance and other bony landmarks, like trochlear groove medialization, tibial tuberosity lateralization, and knee rotation angle, in the surgical algorithm for the patient with patellar dislocation. Methods: We conducted a prospective study, analyzing and comparing data from two groups, 33 patients with a diagnosis of patellar dislocation, and a control group of 30 patients, with meniscal injury, but healthy contralateral limb. Using computed tomography, we measured the TT-TG distance, femoral anteversion, tibial torsion, knee rotation angle, tuberosity lateralization, and trochlear groove medialization of all the patients in our study. The measurements were conducted by two independent orthopedic surgeons in a randomized manner. Using an unpaired t test, we compared and analyzed each parameters value from the study and the control group. Results: Comparing the two groups, we observed a significant difference for TT-TG distance, knee rotation angle and tibial tuberosity lateralization with higher values in the study group compared to the control group (CI 95% 6.44-9.72, CI 95% 8.64-10.39, CI 95% 3.77-5.46, respectively), with a p value < 0.0001 in all cases. Also, the TT-TG distance positively correlated with knee rotation angle (r=.97, p=0.01) and tibial tuberosity lateralization (r=.86, p=0.0001) in the study group. Conclusions: The TT-TG distance measurement usually defines the lateralization of the tibial tuberosity; yet, in some cases, it can be caused by the trochlear groove medialization, or high rotation between the femur and tibia. Our study revealed that knee rotation and tuberosity lateralization were factors implicated in patellar dislocation and they should be taken into account when making the decision of tibial tubercle osteotomy.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The main cause of flesh browning in ‘Rojo Brillante’ persimmon fruit is mechanical damage caused during harvesting and packing. Innovation and research on nondestructive techniques to detect this phenomenon in the packing lines are necessary because this type of alteration is often only seen when the final consumer peels the fruit. In this work, we have studied the application of hyperspectral imaging in the range of 450–1040 nm to detect mechanical damage without any external symptoms. The fruit was damaged in a controlled manner. Later, images were acquired before and at 0, 1, 2 and 3 days after damage induction. First, the spectral data captured from the images were analysed through an algorithm based on principal component analysis (PCA). The aim was to automatically separate intact and damaged fruit, and to detect the damage in the PC images when present. With this algorithm, 90.0% of intact fruit and 90.8% of damaged fruit were correctly detected. A model based on partial least squares—discriminant analysis (PLS-DA), was later calibrated using the mean spectrum of the pixels detected as damaged, to determine the moment when the fruit was damaged. The model differentiated fruit corresponding correctly to 0, 1, 2 and 3 days after damage induction, achieving a total accuracy of 99.4%.

This disertation presents optimization algorithm with probability direction vector. This algorithm, in its basic form, belongs to category of stochastic optimization algorithms. It uses statistically effected perturbation of individual through state space. This work also represents modification of basic idea to the form of swarm optimization algoritm. This approach contains form of stochastic cooperation. This is one of the new ideas of this algorithm. Population of individuals cooperates only through modification of probability direction vector and not directly. Statistical tests are used to compare resultes of designed algorithms with commonly used algorithms Simulated Annealing and SOMA. This part of disertation also presents experimental data from other optimization problems. Disertation ends with chapter which seeks optimal set of control variables for each designed algorithm.

Abstract:
This doctoral thesis is focused on metrics and the criteria for socio-technical system diagnostics, which is a high profile topic for companies wanting to ensure the best in product quality. More and more customers are requiring suppliers to prove reliability in the production and supply quality of products according to given specifications. Consequently the ability to produce quality goods corresponding to customer requirements has become a fundamental condition in order to remain competitive. The thesis firstly lays out the basic strategies and rules which are prerequisite for a successful working company in order to ensure provision of quality goods at competitive costs. Next, methods and tools for planning are discussed. Planning is important in its impact on budget, time schedules, and necessary sourcing quantification. Risk analysis is also included to help define preventative actions, and reduce the probability of error and potential breakdown of the entire company. The next part of the thesis deals with optimisation problems, which are solved by Swarm based optimisation. Algorithms and their utilisation in industry are described, in particular the Vehicle routing problem and Travelling salesman problem, used as tools for solving specialist problems within manufacturing corporations. The final part of the thesis deals with Qualitative modelling, where solutions can be achieved with less exact quantitative information of the surveyed model. The text includes qualitative algebra descriptions, which discern only three possible values – positive, constant and negative, which are sufficient in the demonstration of trends. The results can also be conveniently represented using graph theory tools.

Abstract:
The research poses as their main objective the three gestures recognition of a body language of surveillance personnel and the consequent activation of alarm automatically. It was initially carried out a survey of the administration and the offices of the buildings to know which were the occurrences that violate the security of a multi-family building, then were observed and analyzed images captured by a surveillance camera located in the reception, identifying the most vulnerable occurrences and gestures associated with these events; were selected three gestures that unconsciously performs surveillance personnel before such situations; to certain pictures that comprise these images were applied spatial processing techniques, with the help of an artificial lighting that was more intense in the back of the subject of analysis, getting the definition of a silhouette binarized in the Matlab environment, techniques such as plane selection red, more significant bit plane, to invest an image and convolution close type, defined a silhouette that allowed to develop a mathematical algorithm that generated an electrical signal in USB serial port of the computer, where it is physically connected a hardware platform Arduino that active the alarm. This platform choice is due to the fact that Matlab has a group of instructions for Arduino, achieving an orderly communication between computer and interface. The techniques used recognized 62.5 % of the events described in the surveys carried out and which aren’t mentioned in similar research topics. To achieve the objective was necessary to analyze a picture per second.
