Abstract:

Abstract The purpose of this discursive exploration that is influenced by ethnography and autoethnography is to present how Western-based music therapy intersects with the pluralistic healthcare culture in Malaysia. We will first be situating music therapy as a Eurocentric-based healthcare practice. We will then introduce the history of Malaysia and healthcare culture through a pluralistic lens, drawing inspiration from a popular Malaysian street food—rojak, a form of salad. We use rojak as an analogy to honor Malaysia’s food culture while drawing similarities between the diverse flavors and textures between the distinct components of rojak, with the unique pluralism that exists throughout Malaysian culture and healthcare practices. Through this rojak pluralist lens, we will share several unique Malaysian vignettes to explore the different ways we consider Eurocentric music therapy as a potentially colonial practice, ranging from postcolonial theory perspective to a pragmatic, inclusive perspective. As Malaysia has maintained its pluralistic culture as a uniquely multiracial Asian country despite the lengthy history of colonization, we offer these Malaysian, post-British-colonial music therapy vignettes in this article.

Abstract:

The growth of Vibrio cholerae O139 inoculated into cendol (a mixture of coconut milk, brown sugar, and green jelly from rice flour), rojak (prawn paste, sugar, soy sauce, spices, garlic, and peanut gravy), gravy, tofu, fried tofu, and wheat-flour noodles (all except rojak gravy containing the natural microbial flora) was examined at four incubation temperatures (7, 15,25, and 35°C). V. cholerae O139 grew well in cendol incubated at 25 and 35°C but not at 15°C or below. No growth of V. cholerae O139 in rojak gravy was detected at any temperature except for very slow growth at 35°C. V. cholerae O139 inoculated into tofu exhibited slow growth at 25 and 35°C and growth was not detected at 7 and 15°C. However, in fried tofu, the organism entered the growth phase after 12 h of incubation at 25 and 35°C. Growth of V. cholerae O139 was not demonstrated in noodles at any incubation temperatures. Nutrient broth with 1% NaCl added supported the growth of V. cholerae O139 at 25 and 35°C. At both of these incubation temperatures mean generation time was longer at pH 5 than at pH 8. The high variation in growth of V. cholerae O139 in the distinct foods examined might have been due to differences in pH, fat content, and aw. Proper sanitary practices and storage of foods at refrigeration temperatures will help to reduce the possibility of growth by Vibrio cholerae O139 in foods to levels which do not imply a risk for food-poisoning.

Abstract:

Foodborne hazards in seafood have only recently received increased attention in Singapore since the illness outbreak in 2009 that was associated with consumption of Indian rojak (a traditional salad of fruits, vegetables, and seafood). The microbiological quality of seafood must be evaluated for assurance of food safety. The aim of this study was to evaluate the microbiological quality and to determine the prevalence of Salmonella and Vibrio spp. in seafood sold in Singapore. A total of 116 samples (41 prawn, 44 shellfish, and 31 fishball samples) were collected from major supermarkets and wet markets in Singapore. The mesophilic and psychrotrophic bacterial counts for prawn, shellfish, and fishballs were 2 to 7 log CFU/g. One Salmonella Lexington strain was isolated from a thawed-frozen shellfish product and two Vibrio parahaemolyticus strains were isolated from commercial fishball and shrimp meat products. Thus, seafood sold in Singapore has the potential to be contaminated with Vibrio spp. and Salmonella, and proper handling at food service establishments is required to ensure food safety. Effective control measures also are needed to prevent cross-contamination during postharvest seafood processing.

Abstract:

This study aims to design a reservation system table and food at Roast Chicken Restaurant Mang Rojak that has not utilized internet technology. This application is a solution to the reservation problems that occur and can be used as a means of developing services to customers. The system development method used is the waterfall model. This method consists of several stages of activity flow that runs in one direction from the beginning to the end of the system development project, starting from the analysis of design, design, coding, testing and system implementation. In the analysis phase, the data were collected by observation and interview. The testing of this application is done with Black Box Testing. The results of the study have provided sufficient information about the current food ordering procedure, so that the new system is needed. This table and food reservation information system is website-based that supports online ordering process. This system also provides menu price information and other promotions without coming to the restaurant. Development of this application is needed in order to be able to help issues related to information needs both for the company and customers

Abstract:

Celem artykułu jest zestawienie trzech koncepcji uniwersaliów prezentowanych przez Pawła Rojka w Tropach i uniwersaliach z koncepcjami uprawdziwiania. Rojek poddaje analizie trzy podejścia do problemu jedności w wielości: (1) jedności szczegółowej obejmującej abstrakcyjne własności, (2) jedności ogólnej uchwytującej nieokreślone aspekty oraz (3) wyróżnienie konkretnych uniwersaliów. Dwa pierwsze interpretuje w odniesieniu do teorii uprawdziwiania, przywołując „argument z passiflory” i rozwijając jego autorską wersję. W tekście kontynuuję refleksję Rojka, rozwijając ją w odniesieniu do trzeciej koncepcji uniwersaliów, czyli konkretnych powszechników. Zestawiam je z monizmem Jonathana Schaffera, aby następnie zbudować trzecią wersję „argumentu z passiflory” opartą na ufundowaniu.

Malaysia is a multi ethnic country that has a diverse cultures. The policy during the colonial era caused a conflict between ethnic groups in Malaysia.To foster a racial integration in Malaysia, the government has been striving to create a nation state.One of the most important methods in creating a nation state is through the use of one language which is ‘Bahasa Melayu’.Various efforts have been made by the Government in order to upholding the Malay language. Among them have established laws and special Act on Malay language, writing in various fields in the Malay language and the establishment of Wawasan school.The findings found some challenges in achieving the nation state are lack of fluency in Malay language among the multi-racial society, political aspects, education and the usage of the ‘rojak’ Malay language. Various efforts from the Government in empowering the Malay language need to be pursued so that the Malay language can be one of the main tools in moulding the identity of the Malaysian society. Keywords: Malay language, nation state, challenges, Malaysia Abstrak: Negara Malaysia adalah sebuah negara yang mempunyai pelbagai etnik dan suku kaum. Dasar penjajah ketika era kolonial telah menyebabkan berlaku konflik antara kaum di Malaysia. Bagi memupuk integrasi antara kaum di Malaysia, kerajaan telah berusaha mewujudkan sebuah negara bangsa. Salah satu kaedah yang penting dalam mewujudkan negara bangsa adalah menerusi penggunaan satu bahasa yang sama iaitu bahasa Melayu. Pelbagai usaha telah dilakukan kerajaan dalam usaha untuk memertabatkan bahasa Melayu. Antaranya dengan mewujudkan undang-undang dan akta khas mengenai bahasa Melayu, penghasilan penulisan dalam pelbagai bidang dalam bahasa Melayu dan penubuhan Sekolah Wawasan. Dapatan kajian artikel ini mendapati beberapa cabaran yang mengekang usaha untuk mencapai negara bangsa melalui bahasa Melayu antaranya kurang penguasaan bahasa Melayu dikalangan masyarakat pelbagai kaum, aspek politik, pendidikan dan penggunaan bahasa Melayu yang salah. Pelbagai usaha daripada pihak kerajaan dalam memperkasakan bahasa Melayu perlu diteruskan supaya bahasa Melayu boleh menjadi salah satu alat utama dalam membentuk identiti masyarakat Malaysia.

Antecedentes: en población pediátrica, pocas veces se busca la sensibilización alérgica a insectos de los órdenes Hymenoptera y Culicidae.Objetivo: establecer la prevalencia de sensibilización a abeja, mosco y hormiga roja en niños con enfermedades alérgicas.Material y método: estudio retrolectivo y descriptivo, en el que se revisaron los registros de la reactividad cutánea a alergenos de abeja, mosco y hormiga en un servicio de Alergia Pediátrica de enero de 2009 a diciembre de 2011. Se estimó la frecuencia de sensibilización y sus respectivos intervalos de confianza de 95% (IC95%).Resultados: se incluyeron 613 pacientes, 41% era del sexo femenino; la edad media del grupo fue de 6.2±3.7 años. La sensibilización alérgica al mosco fue de 15% (IC95%: 12.4 a 18.1), a abeja de 14% (IC95%: 11.4 a 16.9) y a hormiga roja de 6% (IC95%: 6.0 a 6.8); por sexo, la frecuencia no difirió significativamente. Los niños sensibles a las abejas o a las hormigas rojas tuvieron mayor edad que los no sensibilizados: 7.1 vs 6.0 años (p=0.011) y 7.4 vs 6.1 años (p=0.042), respectivamente. Durante las estaciones de otoño e invierno predominó la sensibilización a la hormiga roja.Conclusiones: hasta nuestro conocimiento, éste es el primer informe en México relacionado con la frecuencia de sensibilización a abejas, moscos y hormigas rojas realizado en niños. Además, nuestros resultados sugieren que se debe identificar de manera habitual la sensibilidad a estos insectos.

Abstract:

Objetivo: Determinar la prevalencia de estudios complementarios (EC) en sujetos con afecciones de columna que acuden al Servicio de Kinesiología de un hospital público de la Ciudad Autónoma de Buenos Aires. Como objetivos secundarios, nos planteamos calcular costos directos producto de los EC en sujetos con dolor lumbar (DL), dolor cervical (DC) y prevalencia de banderas rojas en DL. Materiales y método: Estudio transversal. Se incluyeron sujetos con afección de columna vertebral, mayores de 18 años y que firmaron el consentimiento informado. Resultados: La prevalencia de EC para la población general fue de 83%. El 87,5% de los sujetos con DL presentó al menos una bandera roja. El costo total de los EC fue de $210133 (US$3431) y el costo promedio por sujeto fue de $1129 (US$18) en la población general. Conclusión: La prevalencia de EC de los sujetos con afecciones de columna fue del 83%, lo que generó un costo promedio de $1129 (US$18) por sujeto. Al evaluar la presencia de banderas rojas, el 87,5% de los sujetos con DL presentó al menos una.

Actualmente las mareas rojas son motivo de preocupación para los Centros de Salud por su evidente incremento y porque algunas especies son responables de contaminar moluscos bivalvos que al ser ingeridos producen intoxicaciones severas en el ser humano. El amplio desarrollo turístico de Bahía de Banderas no ha estado al margen de esto. Al iniciar este año 2002, un nuevo fenómeno de marea roja se presentó en la Bahía de Banderas con una duración de 23 días aproximadamente. Los análisis de las muestras de agua de mar han revelado la presencia del ciliado Mesodinium rubrum Lohmann 1908 con una densidad celular entre 64,000 a más de un millón de células por litro.

La Media Luna Roja Marroquí (MLRM) organizó, durante el año 1987, una serie de seminarios de difusión del derecho international humanitario (DIH) y de los derechos humanos para seis diferentes publicos concemidos por el conocimiento del DIH. Esta interesantísima experiencia permitió llegar, en todo el país, a personas motivadas que, en su mayoría, tenían solamente un pequeño conocimiento del derecho internacional humanitario, y fragmentario del Movimiento Internacional de la Cruz y de la Media Luna Rojas. Fue, asimismo, una experiencia piloto, porque, por primera vez, la Sociedad National organizó, por propia iniciativa, una serie de seminarios de difusión para los públicos destinatarios determinados por el Movimiento en todos sus programas de acción.

Abstract:

En este artículo se presenta la evolución de un evento de marea roja ocurrido en la bahía de Mazatlán, localizada al noroeste de México, durante febrero de 1996. Las imágenes de temperatura superficial del mar (TSM), obtenidas mediante el radiómetro avanzado de muy alta resolución (AVHRR), mostraron una temperatura superficial inicial relativamente alta de 24°C en la zona costera, seguido de un decremento abrupto de 2.5°C debido a un enfriamiento eólico. Inmediatamente se restablecen las condiciones cálidas en la región. Las imágenes de satélite muestran buen potencial en el análisis de los procesos oceánicos de corto plazo responsables del desarrollo y comportamiento de las mareas rojas. La resolución espacial de 1.1 km del sensor AVHRR fue satisfactoria en latitudes cercanas a los 23° N.

Abstract:

El estudio tuvo como objetivo determinar el crecimiento y número de cocones generados por Eisenia foetida (lombriz roja) en cuatro sustratos. Los tratamientos (sustratos) fueron: choclo (T1), zapallo (T2), camote (T3) y papa (T4) en 1.5 kg de tierra agrícola, 150 g de estiércol de alpaca y 25 unidades de rocas medianas. Se utilizaron 15 lombrices rojas adultas por tratamiento, colocadas en cajas de madera y se hizo el seguimiento durante 40 días. Se midió el tamaño y número de lombrices, así como el conteo de cocones. La longitud de las lombrices fue similar para los tratamientos con choclo (5.5 cm), papa (5.5 cm) y zapallo (5.2 cm), pero menor en el tratamiento con camote (4.0 cm; p=0.0045). Por otro lado, no hubo diferencia significativa en el número de cocones entre tratamientos.

Abstract:

Se estudió el estado y conservación de la lapa roja (Ara macao) en el Área de Conservación de Osa (ACOSA) entre octubre y diciembre del 2005. El proyecto se llevó a cabo realizando una entrevista estructurada, con 22 preguntas, a 105 adultos locales y desarrollando un taller con 18 participantes de la región, que resultó en un plan estratégico. Entre los resultados mas sobresalientes, se encontró que: a) la población de lapa roja se extiende en toda la Península de Osa y hacia el norte hasta Playa Piñuelas; b) no fue posible estimar el número de individuos en la población, pero puede existir entre 800-1200 individuos y los habitantes locales consideran que esta aumentando; c) las lapas no se concentran en sitios para pernoctar; d) se alimentan de al menos 59 especies de plantas (semilla y fruta) de las cuales tres especies exóticas se consideran importantes: el almendro de playa (Terminalia catappa), la teca (Tectona grandis) y la melina (Gmelina arborea); e) anidan entre diciembre y mayo en huecos de árboles de unas 28 especies, siendo la ceiba (Ceiba pentandra) y el ajo (Caryocar costarricense) las más utilizadas; f ) existe extracción de pichones (aprox. 25-50 por año) por parte de laperos, siendo una persona la principal responsable de dicha extracción ya que colecta al menos 25 pichones anualmente; g) existen tres programas de liberación de lapas rojas, los cuales se encuentran ubicados en el área de Golfito y Pavones y h) el plan estratégico formulado contempla proyectos de investigación, monitoreo, conservación, extensión y mercadeo de la especie; lo anterior incluye estudios sobre dinámica poblacional, hábitat, ecología de reproducción, genética, extracción de pichones y programas de conservación.

<p>Dentro de las actividades que alteran la composición del suelo está la minería, que causa el aumento de daños visibles al suelo mediante la creación de minas a cielo abierto, escombreras, estanques de residuos y otras instalaciones de minas. El objetivo principal de este trabajo fue evaluar el efecto de la lombriz roja californiana sobre el crecimiento de microorganismos en suelos contaminados con mercurio en el municipio de Segovia, Antioquia. Estos suelos representan una problemática importante debido a la acumulación de mercurio en exceso que ocasiona la pérdida de la calidad del suelo. Para este estudio se tomaron cuatro tratamientos en diferentes concentraciones de mercurio y un tratamiento más como blanco con lombrices rojas californianas <em>(Eisenia foetida). </em>Para esto, se evaluó el crecimiento de microorganismos a través de diferentes cultivos en el laboratorio, encontrando un crecimiento satisfactorio de los mismos luego de 25 y 90 días de tratamiento. De acuerdo al comportamiento observado, se evidencia una inmovilización del mercurio y una adaptación de los microorganismos al suelo contaminado, mostrando un aumento significativo de estos con el transcurso del tiempo.</p>

Abstract:

Con el objetivo de describir la relación entre la disponibilidad alimentaria y la tasa de mortalidad por cáncer colorrectal en los países de América en el año 2010, se analizaron datos provistos por la International Agency for Research on Cancer y la Food and Agriculture Organization mediante un estudio ecológico. Se observó una gran variabilidad excepto en disponibilidad calórica. La disponibilidad alimentaria fue abundante para calorías, grasas totales, grasa animal, carnes rojas y bebidas alcohólicas. Para frutas y vegetales fue crítica en un 80% de los países. Los países con más alta tasa de mortalidad por cáncer colorrectal fueron Uruguay, Barbados, Argentina y Cuba, y con las tasas más bajas fueron Guatemala, Canadá, México y Honduras. Las relaciones más fuertes se dieron entre la tasa de mortalidad por cáncer colorrectal y la disponibilidad alimentaria de grasa animal, carne roja, bebidas alcohólicas y calorías. No se encontró efecto protector de la disponibilidad alimentaria de frutas y vegetales sobre la tasa de mortalidad por cáncer colorrectal. Sería recomendable mejorar los registros de incidencia de tumores y de formas directas de evaluar la dieta para ser analizados en futuros estudios en lugar de los datos aquí utilizados.

El dibujo sugiere imágenes de seres imaginados, ángeles, demonios, textos que no son legibles, Para Celso Rojas, sus dibujos muestran el lado oscuro del ser humano, la otredad, la vida y la muerte como las dos caras de una totalidad. Una particularidad de su obra es que no tiene fecha, lo que hace que sea percibida como “atemporal”.

Tres especies nuevas de Danaea Sm. son descritas aquí: D. epilithica A. Rojas, D. macrophylla A. Rojas y D. moralesiana A. Rojas. La primera especie difiere de Danaea nodosa (L.) Sm. por rizoma compacto y ascendente, frondas más desarrolladas, raquis dorsalmente con dos canales laterales y sin engrosamientos en el punto de inserción de las pinnas basales. La segunda especie se diferencia de Danaea media Liebm. por rizoma compacto y más robusto, frondas más desarrolladas, pinnas más anchas y con ápice entero y, venas más cercanas entre sí. La tercera también es relacionada a D. media, de la cual difiere por rizoma erecto (vs. reptante) y sin resina rosada (vs. con ella), pinnas basales oblanceoladas con pedículo largo y la base cuneada y, escamas costales pardo oscuro. Adicionalmente, las especies Danaea betancuri A. Rojas, D. inaequilatera A. Rojas, D. lucens A. Rojas y D. tuomistoana A. Rojas, que fueron sinonimizadas por Christenhusz (2010), son aquí comparadas con las especies más cercanas y sus nombres son revalidados.

En nuestro país, la Cruz Roja tiene su origen cuando la señora Matilde Obarrio de Mallet, consciente de las grandes limitaciones de salud que, en los primeros años de independencia, azotaban a la nación, inició una serie de gestiones ante el Gobiemo, entidades privadas y personas generosas e interesadas en organizar una institutión de ayuda social. Esta iniciativa concluyó con la fundación de la Cruz Roja Panameña, sancionada mediante el Decreto Ejecutivo nº 34 del 1 de marzo de 1917.Esta organizatión, que tiene en su haber el establecimiento de las primeras guarderías infantiles de nuestro país, contó con el apoyo profesional del doctor Nicolás Solaro para la asistencia voluntaria en la primera clínica antituberculosa de Panamá y se ha caracterizado, además, por la atención especial que ha brindado a los menores en situatión irregular.

High rainfall and soil tillage without applying soil and water conservation techniques (WCT) have led to higher runoff and erosion and washed away top soil that is rich in nutrients needed by plants. This causes soil fertility to decrease over time. This study aims to examine the differences in growth and productivity of Arabica coffee that the uses of rorak and without rorak. This research was conducted in the farmer's garden which is incorporated in the Barokah farmer group Sungai Jernih Village Gunung 7 District and Mekar Sari Village Kayu Aro District Kerinci Regency from May to July 2019. The experimental design used was unformatted trials and the location of the experiment was chosen intentionally (purposive) with the reason that in that area there are objects to be examined, namely coffee cultivation land that uses rorak and which does not use rorak. The treatment in this study was, Ro: land using rorak and R1: land without rorak. Vegetative and production variables observed included stem circumference (cm), leaf color, fruit weight with a sample of 100 chery coffees per tree (g) and soil variables including soil pH, soil moisture, nutrient content N, P, and K. The results of the study showed that making rorak produced differences in stem circumference, soil moisture content, nutrient content of N, P, K and soil pH as well as land productivity. Land using rorak yields 1047.61 kg / ha / year grenbeen and land without rorak 683.89 kg / ha / year grenbeen.Keywords: rorak, productivity of Arabica coffee

Soil erosion is a serious problem in the field of ecology and environment. Providing rorak (small blocked ditches) and mulches as an alternative conservation action is expected to minimize water runoff. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of combination of rorak and mulches in controlling water runoff in a cocoa farm. Location of this research was in Kaliwining Experimental Station, Indonesian Coffee and Cocoa Research Institute during rainy season in early 2015. This research used a nested design in which there is a complete factorial design of random groups that every combination treatment was repeated three times. Each experiment plot consisted of 16 cocoa trees of eight years old. The first factor was rorak treatment consisted of without rorak, 9 rorak per 16 trees (plot) and 16 rorak per 16 trees, whereas the second factor was mulch treatment consisted of control (without mulch), cocoa leaves as mulch and rice straw mixed with cocoa leaves as mulch. Rorak collecting runoff water was made of aluminum with a length of 40 cm, width 30 cm and high 30 cm. Observation of runoff water was carried out early every morning. The results showed that increased number of rorak combined with cocoa leaf and rice straw significantly controlled runoff water compared to control. Rorak and mulch treatments were able to reduce runoff water compared to control. High number of rorak per plot increased the effectiveness in controlling runoff water when it was combined with mulch especially mixture of wide leaf (cocoa leaf) and needleshaped leaf (rice straw). Treatment of 16 rorak in every 16 trees with cocoa leaves and rice straw mulch could reduce runoff water by 82.8% compared to a control.
