Abstract:
Ninety-six 4-month-old infants were habituated to one of three computer-generated displays depicting two rod parts above and below an occluding box. In the first display, the surfaces and boundaries of the rod and box were specified by dense surface texture. Their depth segregation was specified by accretion and deletion of background texture and motion shear. In the second display, the unity of the rod parts and box, and their depth segregation, were specified only by illusory contours. In the third display, the boundaries of the rod and box were specified by illusory contours, perceptible only via spatiotemporal integration of accretion and deletion of sparse-background-texture elements. Infants appeared to perceive object unity, and segregate the rod and box surfaces, in all three displays, indicating use of illusory contours to perceive bounded surfaces in depth. The results suggest a cognitive contribution to perception of some illusory contours, abilities which seem to be present by at least 4 months of age.

Abstract:
A novel leaning-type spatial arch bridge without thrust was designed as a landmark in a major urban city. In order to alleviate the higher negative reaction force at side span and enhance the lateral stability, commonly the case within this type bridge, a large-size replaceable box-shaped steel rod with pinned connections was introduced. The fatigue behaviour of the box-shaped steel rod and related upper and lower anchorage segments was investigated through a full-scale constant-amplitude fatigue test under axial loading. In comparison to the fatigue test results, the fatigue evaluation based on Eurocode 3 nominal stress design curve FAT56 considerably overestimated the fatigue strength of critical welded detail in box-shaped steel rod, which was underrated according to the universal International Institute of Welding effective notch stress design curve FAT225. The presented full-scale programme also validated the applicability of the latter method, which presented conservative results, to large-size thick-plate (80 mm) welded joints. The conclusion based on the test and theoretical results may provide a reference for the fatigue design of adopting box-shaped steel rod in spatial arch bridges.

Abstract:
The stuffing box-piston rod system is widely used in the low-speed marine diesel engines to scrape oil and ensure sealing. Its friction power loss and wear rate are great, but the studies about the system are very limited. In this study, based on the special structure and working conditions of the stuffing box, the analytical model for the tribological properties of the stuffing box-piston rod system is developed considering the oil starvation and relative ring location effects. The minimum oil film thickness, friction, oil transportation, and asperity contact are calculated for the stuffing box. The analysis results show that compared with the fully flooded lubrication, the minimum oil film thicknesses of the rings reduce significantly in the middle of the strokes under the starved lubrication condition, but the friction losses of the rings are influenced by the comprehensive effects of the oil film thickness reduction and lubricating area reduction under the starved lubrication condition, which is related to the specific profiles of the rings. In addition, compared with the engine piston ring pack, the relative ring location effect is more obvious in the stuffing box ring pack because there are more rings and the ring intervals are larger. The relative ring location effect makes the minimum oil film thicknesses, friction forces, and asperity contacts of the rings have oscillations after bottom dead center and top dead center.

Abstract:
The present study examined infants’ capability of extracting object unity in a stationary twodimensional rod-and-box display. The infants were habituated to a centre-occluded rod and were afterwards tested with both a broken rod and a complete rod. The looking pattern of both female and male participants aged 8 months did not reveal the ability to amodally complete the partly hidden rod. Nine-month-old females, however, looked reliably longer at the broken test stimulus than at the solid test display, implying that they had perceived the partially occluded rod presented in the habituation period as a connected whole. Their male counterparts, on the other hand, did not differentiate between the test patterns. These findings suggest that the capability of perceiving object unity in displays in which the relative depth ordering of surfaces is specified solely by the pictorial depth cue of interposition emerges after about 8 months of age. Furthermore, the results argue for a differential perspective including sex as a moderator variable.

Abstract In the construction process of box culvert form-work without tie rod, the stress state of its supporting system is of great importance. Based on a construction project for the box culvert without tie rod form-work, this paper studied the force characteristics of diagonal braces during the concrete pouring of the box culvert. The force calculation theory of the support system was analyzed and the force was analyzed using the finite element software Midas Civil. The results showed that when the distance between the connection point of the diagonal brace and the foundation was 1 m, the diagonal brace cannot provide effective support for the template, and when the distance between the connection point of the diagonal brace and the template is 2 m, 3 m, and 4 m, the diagonal brace can provide effective support. It was recommended that the diagonal brace connection point is 3 m away from the template as the optimal diagonal brace layout position. It is recommended to strengthen the area of increased local deformation of diagonal braces to a certain extent according to the calculation results of this finite element analysis to improve the safety performance of the entire structure. The research results of this paper can provide reference for follow-up similar construction problems.

Abstract:
The non-alpha-helical N-terminal domain of intermediate filament proteins plays a key role in filament assembly. Previous studies have identified a nonapeptide motif, SSYRRIFGG, in the non-alpha-helical N-terminal domain of vimentin that is required for assembly. This motif is also found in desmin, peripherin and the type IV intermediate filament proteins. GFAP is the only type III intermediate filament protein in which this motif is not readily identified. This study has identified two motifs in the non-alpha-helical N-terminal domain of mouse GFAP that play important roles in GFAP assembly. One motif is located at the very N terminus and has the consensus sequence, MERRRITS-ARRSY. It has some characteristics in common with the vimentin nonapeptide motif, SSYRRIFGG, including its location in the non-alpha-helical N-terminal domain and a concentration of arginine residues. Unlike the vimentin motif in which even conserved sequence changes affect filament assembly, the GFAP consensus sequence, MERRRITS-ARRSY, can be replaced by a completely unrelated sequence; namely, the heptapeptide, MVRANKR, derived from the lambda cII protein. When fused to GFAP sequences with sequential deletions of the N-terminal domain, the lambda cII heptapeptide was used to help identify a second motif, termed the RP-box, which is located just upstream of the GFAP alpha-helical rod domain. This RP-box affected the efficiency of filament assembly as well as protein-protein interactions in the filament, as shown by sedimentation assays and electron microscopy. These results are supported by previous data, which showed that the dramatic reorganization of GFAP within cells was due to phosphorylation-dephosphorylation of a site located in this RP-box. The results in this study suggest the RP-box motif to be a key modulator in the mechanism of GFAP assembly, and support a role for this motif in both the nucleation and elongation phases of filament assembly. The RP-box motif in GFAP has the consensus sequence, RLSL-RM-PP. Sequences similar to the GFAP RP-box motif are also to be found in vimentin, desmin and peripherin. Like GFAP, these include phosphorylation and proteolysis sites and are adjacent to the start of the central alpha-helical rod domain, suggesting that this motif of general importance to type III intermediate filament protein assembly.

Abstract:
Atomically precise gold nanocluster based on linear assembly of repeating icosahedrons (clusters of clusters) is a unique type of linear nanostructure, which exhibits strong near-infrared absorption as their free electrons are confined in a one-dimensional quantum box. Little is known about the carrier dynamics in these nanoclusters, which limit their energy-related applications. Here, we reported the observation of exciton localization in triicosahedral Au37 nanoclusters (0.5 nm in diameter and 1.6 nm in length) by measuring femtosecond and nanosecond carrier dynamics. Upon photoexcitation to S1 electronic state, electrons in Au37 undergo ∼100-ps localization from the two vertexes of three icosahedrons to one vertex, forming a long-lived S1* state. Such phenomenon is not observed in Au25 (dimer) and Au13 (monomer) consisting of two and one icosahedrons, respectively. We have further observed temperature dependence on the localization process, which proves it is thermally driven. Two excited-state vibration modes with frequencies of 20 and 70 cm−1 observed in the kinetic traces are assigned to the axial and radial breathing modes, respectively. The electron localization is ascribed to the structural distortion of Au37 in the excited state induced by the strong coherent vibrations. The observed electron localization phenomenon provides unique physical insight into one-dimensional gold nanoclusters and other nanostructures, which will advance their applications in solar-energy storage and conversion.

Abstract:
Rollers with box passes are widely used in long products manufacturing, that can be explained by better gripping ability and a high drawing out coefficient. However, along with the stated advantages there are considerable drawbacks – formation of an erosion net at a pass bottom and side fractures at side outlets. Study of main technological parameters of rolling process influence on wear, its value and character of distribution along a pass perimeter. Possibilities shown to decrease or redistribute the wear aimed at an increase of rollers service life. Results of reasons study of thermocyclic fractures formation at side outlets of box passes presented. By application of simulation three digital experiments were made: a base one – according to parameters of existing technological process and two being proposed, in which a pass outlet geometry was varied, estimated its influence on the side surface heating, contact pressure and contact with strip. Based on the experiments simulation results analysis the following was determined: formation of side fractures takes place as a result of uneven temperature expansion of side surface and pass bottom; considerably longer contact of box pass outlets results in critical expanding thermal stresses at its surface. Besides, it was determined, that by a pass outlet geometry changing it is possible to control the dynamic of thermal expanding of a pass surface and considerably decrease it.

Abstract:
This work is dedicated to the code verification of MPACT, which is developed under the Consortium for Advanced Simulation of Light Water Reactors by the University of Michigan and Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where the numerical solution is compared to the reference solution of a benchmark problem with a known analytical solution. In this work, Benchmark Problem 3.4 in Barry Ganapol’s benchmark book was chosen as an MOC code verification test problem. Problem 3.4 is a bare cylinder of infinite height, which is an excellent benchmark problem for 2D MOC. To ensure that this benchmark problem exercised the same code as typically used by MPACT, the bare rod configuration was surrounded by a bounding box filled with a non-scattering material. To avoid implementing a critical rod search in the MPACT code, the MPACT analysis was performed using cross sections that yielded the given c, the average number of secondary neutrons per collision, and a rod radius that was the corresponding critical rod radius. MPACT agreed with all cases to within a few pcm. The convergence behavior was studied. The results show a 2nd order radial convergence, consistent with flat-source approximation. The convergence curves with respect to ray spacing and polar angle quadrature set order were also obtained. The other quantity of interest tabulated for Problem 3.4 was the radial distribution of the scalar flux. Two configurations were analyzed, and the resultant radial flux profiles agreed very well with the tabulated results. The verification of the production neutronics code MPACT has been augmented by the addition of the analytical solutions for an infinite cylinder from the Ganapol benchmark book. These test cases can be included in the regression suite for MPACT.

Abstract:
After retinal detachment (RD), the induction of autophagy protects photoreceptors (PR) from apoptotic cell death. The cytoplasmic high-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1) promotes autophagy. We previously demonstrated that the deletion of HMGB1 from rod PRs results in a more rapid death of these cells after RD. In this work, we tested the hypothesis that the lack of HMGB1 accelerates PR death after RD due to the reduced activation of protective autophagy in the retina after RD. The injection of 1% hyaluronic acid into the subretinal space was used to create acute RD in mice with a rhodopsin-Cre-mediated conditional knockout (cKO) of HMGB1 in rods (HMGB1Δrod) and littermate controls. RD sharply increased the number of apoptotic cells in the outer nuclear layer (ONL), and this number was further increased in HMGB1Δrod mouse retinas. The activation of autophagy after RD was reduced in the HMGB1Δrod mouse retinas compared to controls, as evidenced by diminished levels of autophagy regulatory proteins LC3-II, Beclin1, ATG5/12, and phospho-ATG16L1. The cKO of HMGB1 in rods increased the expression of Fas and the Bax/Bcl-2 ratio in detached retinas, promoting apoptotic cell death. In conclusion, endogenous HMGB1 facilitates autophagy activation in PR cells following RD to promote PR cell survival and reduce programmed apoptotic cell death.

Salmonella species are gram negative bacteria and members of Enterobacteriaceae family. It has a rod-shaped appearance; it is catalase positive, oxidase negative, non-spore. Salmonella classified into two species, Salmonella Enterica and Salmonella Bangori. Salmonella is now one of the main reasons of diarrhea and vomiting in humans in many countries and especially in industrialized. In a study in Japan 164 Salmonella digestions were collected during 2006 to 2008 which 81 digestions were Salmonella Infantis. Salmonella-specific characteristics are studied in the two phenotype and genotype methods. In this research, with using genotype methods based on PCR, genetic diversity was evaluated; this PCR includes rep-PCR based on repetitive sequence elements (method was done by the use of three primers ERIC, REP and BOX). Studied showed most isolated strains were relevant to Salmonella Enteritidis and dendorogram study showed that the bacteria were grouped in one cluster in dendrogram that all 37 strains were put in a large cluster of Salmonella’s type which is divided into two clusters: Salmonella Enterica and Bongori. The results also in this experiment reflect the efficiency of rep-PCR method by using three ERIC, REP and BOX primers.

Incidents during extracorporeal circulation (ECC) may lead to serious consequences, and troubleshooting exercises are becoming more important. We developed an incident-simulation device operated by remote control for ECC crisis management drills, and evaluated its efficacy at a seminar for perfusionists. This compact device consists of a transmitter and a receiving system and is run by dry batteries without a personal computer. A 4-channel radio-control system is used as the transmitter, and four servomotors placed in a box as the receiving system. To simulate occlusion of 3/8” arterial and venous lines, two servomotors with a rod rotate and the rod compresses the tube. The tilt angle of the stick and the servomotor rotation are in proportion, so that the degree of occlusion is controlled. As a result, the tube lumen becomes “stenotic” and then occluded, depending on the rotation. To cut off the power, the other two servomotors, with a relay system, work as a breaker. When the rod of the servomotor rotates, a micro-switch is turned off. The present device is able to increase perfusion pressure quickly and to simulate inadequate venous drainage quietly. At a seminar for perfusionists, an instructor manipulated the transmitter to create incidents and the participants handled the events effectively. In conclusion, incidents created by this device were perceived as similar to real ECC crises and this device may be useful and educationally effective when used in crisis management drills for perfusionists and trainees.

This study is conducted to implement an image processing system and develop a maturity color chart of banana. Actually, natural ripening color is different than impose ripening. Maturity color chart will help the consumer when it will be in the packet of banana. The earliest physiological maturity (stage-1) was marked as the stage when the flesh color was olive green and the pulp turning yellow and the subsequent maturity stages determined whenever changes the color as stage-2 (green smoke), stage-3 (apple green), stage-4 (olive drab), stage-5 (yellow) and stage-6 (golden rod) color. For each of the maturity stages, physical (peel color, firmness, and weight loss) and biochemical (anthocyanin content, carotenoids content, titrable acidity, pH, total soluble solids, ascorbic acid, reducing sugar, non-reducing sugar, and total sugar) maturity indices were determined. We had classified the maturity stages of banana based on the RGB (Red, Green, and Blue) and HSV (Hue, Saturation and Value) values. Average, median, minimum and maximum values were used in this study. After completing the qualitative analysis of RGB and HSV values we found the correlation coefficient of RGB and HSV values. The red color (R) values of bananas would increase when stages increase and the hue (H) means the pure color of bananas decreases when stages increase. Therefore, we can say that maturity stages of bananas mainly depend on R and H values. In case of Amritsagor banana at stage-6 (golden rod) color, TSS (Total Soluble Solid) (2.1%), TA (Titrable Acidity) (0.96%), pH (5.2), sugar (1.25%), vitamin C (2.5 mg/100g), reducing sugar (1.04%), non-reducing sugar (0.2%), anthocyanin (0.55 mg/100g) carotenoids (0.38 mg/100g) and at stage-1 (olive green) color, pH (6.8), vitamin C (8.75 mg/100g) are significantly highest. The results show that as maturation progressed, firmness decreased gradually and flesh color turned olive green to golden rod with ripening. Total soluble solids increased while TA (Titrable acidity) gradually increased with maturity. The results revealed that, there is a significant relationship between nutritional value, firmness and fruit skin color. So, the fruit of stage-1 (olive green) is suitable for harvesting and stages-6 (golden rod) color is suitable for consumption. Actually this message for grower/ owner or who would like to harvest and consumer. Fruit is banana, to observe the change of color keep it at room temperature. Neither artificial nor chemical system used here. Each and every box will carry the real maturity color chart.J. Bangladesh Agril. Univ. 16(2): 293-302, August 2018

Abstract The design of a system that can recognize the characters printed by the coding machine so that it can then determine the assessment of very good and bad prints, is the goal of this research. This system is useful as an indicator of an indication of a problem with the coding machine which is indicated by the number of products rejected by the system. In addition, this system is an effort to reduce printing errors so that they are sorted and do not pass to the market, thus causing misinformation to the public. This system is in the form of a moving conveyor table that has a firing area box and a reject rod as a product separator. The OCR method is programmed in a computer that is part of the system, to be able to recognize the characters printed by this coding machine. USB to TTL which functions as serial communication from the Laptop to the Microcontroller, is a complement to this tool. Testing as many as 60 times on 12 types of characters, this system has been carried out on this tool. There are six types of good characters and six types of bad characters, which have been provided. Of the 60 tests, the results were four failed tests. That is, the percentage of success of this tool is 93.33%, and the percentage of error is 6.66%.

Abstract:
A novel aerobic actinobacterium, strain EUM 273T, was isolated from the root of a Grey Box tree (Eucalyptus microcarpa Maiden). Cells were Gram-staining-positive with well-developed substrate mycelia which were non-motile and rod-like, with coccoid elements. Phylogenetic evaluation based on 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis placed the isolate as a member of the family Promicromonosporaceae that was most closely related to Promicromonospora xylanilytica YIM 61515T (98.2 %) and Promicromonospora vindobonensis V45T (98 %). Chemotaxonomic data including cell wall components, major menaquinone and major fatty acids confirmed the affiliation of strain EUM 273T to the genus Promicromonospora . The results of the phylogenetic analysis, including physiological and biochemical studies in combination with DNA–DNA hybridization, allowed the genotypic and phenotypic differentiation of strain EUM 273T from the closest related species with validly published names. The name proposed for the novel species is Promicromonospora endophytica sp. nov. The type strain is EUM 273T ( = DSM 23716T = NRRL B-24816T).

Abstract:
High damping magnesium alloys have poor mechanical properties, so it is necessary to investigate the damping properties of high-strength wrought magnesium alloys to effectively reduce vibration and noise in mechanical engineering. The aim of this work is to improve the mechanical damping performance of a novel high-strength Mg-13Gd-4Y-2Zn-0.5Zr magnesium alloy by optimising the heat treatment process. The mechanical damping coefficient, considering not only damping capacity but also the yield strength, is selected as one of the evaluation indexes. The other evaluation index is the tensile strength. The solid solution and ageing treatment were optimised by Box-Behnken method, an efficient experimental design technique. Heat treatment experiments based on the optimal parameters verified that the best process is a solution at 520 °C for 10 h followed by ageing at 239 °C for 22 h. The damping coefficient reaches 0.296, which is 73.1% higher than that before heat treatment. There was a good agreement between the experimental and Box-Behnken predicted results. The microstructure, morphology and composition of the second phases after heat treatment were analysed by SEM, XRD and EDS. Due to the high content of alloying elements in Mg-13Gd-4Y-2Zn-0.5Zr alloy, there are a large number of second phases after heat treated. They mainly include layer, short rod-shaped, bulk long period stacking order (LPSO) Mg12YZn and granular Mg5Gd phases. It was found that the area fraction of the second phases has an extreme effect on the damping capacity and short rod-shaped LPSO can effectively improve the damping capacity of heat-treated Mg-13Gd-4Y-2Zn-0.5Zr alloy. The volume fraction of the second phases was analysed by ImageJ software. It was concluded that the smaller the area occupied by the second phases, the better the mobility of the dislocation, and the better the damping performance of the alloy. The statistical analysis results obtained using ImageJ software are consistent with the experimental results damping capacity.

Abstract:
One of the leading methods of exploitation of oil fields is oil production with the help of downhole rod pumping units (DRPU). Over 80 % of the operating well stock of Azneft PA is equipped with deep well pumps and about 30 % of oil is produced in the country with their help. The widespread use of DRPU is associated with a fairly high maturity of installations, simplicity of its design and maintenance, repair in field conditions, ease of adjustment, the possibility of servicing the installation by unskilled workers, a small effect on the operation of DRPU of the physical and chemical properties of the pumped liquid, as well as high efficiency. However, along with the high efficiency of the applied DRPU, there are also complaints regarding the need to increase the reliability and resource of wellhead equipment, including in order to improve the environmental situation in the oil fields. One of the conditions for ensuring high reliability of the ground equipment of the DRPU is to ensure the tightness of the wellhead rod-wellhead stuffing box assembly, the violation of which is not only a failure of the installation, but also leads to environmental pollution. This is facilitated by inaccuracies in the assembly and installation of DRPU at the wellhead. When mounting the pumping unit, for many reasons, the tolerance of the wellhead rod with the suspension point of the rod string to the balancer head is not ensured. In this regard, in the requirements for the accuracy of mounting the pumping unit at the point of application, a certain mismatch of the axes within the circular coordinates is allowed. So, for widely used pumping units of the CK8 type, the permissible mismatch between the axis of the wellhead rod and the suspension point of the rods is determined by the conditions under which the projection of the suspension point of the rods onto the plane of the base of the pumping unit at any position of the balancer is allowed within a circle with a diameter of 25 mm.

The spindle or spherical cobalt oxalate powders were prepared by conventional precipitation in the presence of pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF). The morphology and phase structure were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray powder diffraction (XRD). The aspect ratio and surface fractal dimension of cobalt oxalate aggregate were calculated using Image tool software and Differential Box Counting (DBC) algorithm. The results indicate that the products prepared from ammonium oxalate and cobalt chloride give rise to the formation of β-CoC2O4∙2H2O. With the increase of pulsed time, the morphology of cobalt oxalate sample varies periodically from rod-like to spheroidic. For the sample treated for 60 s, the degree of sphericity is the highest. The surface fractal dimension is 2.096 and the corresponding fractal form is tight type.

In order to ensure the mechanical stability of outdoor vacuum circuit breaker, it is quiet necessary to study on the change of the mechanical behavior caused by the structural deformation during installation. A model of outdoor ZW32 vacuum circuit breaker is created by a three-dimension design software. Using the finite element analysis software to emulate whether the sliding chute on the bracket would be deformed when the box of circuit breaker has structural deformation. The result shows that the deformation would occur. Besides, after the circuit breaker keeps working for a period of time, the lubricant on the sliding chute decrease. So the drive rod and the operating system can't slide smoothly in the deformed sliding chute. As a result, the mechanical property of the circuit drops in a large extent and it cannot run smoothly.

Abstract:
The currently commercialized cathode material for Li ion batteries such as LiCoO2 exhibited limit to further improve the performance of the batteries, since the employed screen printing method for cathode fabrication is difficult to reduce the thickness and control the microstructure of the oxide layer. In this studies, we have synthesized Li(Ni1-xCox)O2 thin film by utilizing Li-diffusion reaction on the surface of Ni-Co alloy substrates. For the preparation of Ni-Co alloy rod, Ni and 20at.%Co powder were mixed for 24hrs by ball milling, and then pressed into rod-shape by cold-isostatic pressing. The Ni-Co rods were sintered at 1100°C for 6hrs in the reducing atmosphere of Ar 96% and H2 4%. The sintered Ni-20at%Co rod was cold-rolled into tape at 5% reduction ratio with the final thickness of 100㎛, and the recrystallization heat treatment for the development of the cube texture of the rolled Ni alloy tape was carried out at 1000°C in Ar 96% and H2 4%. After thin layer of metallic Li was deposited on the surface of Ni-Co template using thermal evaporation method in the glove box, the Li/Ni-Co composite tape were heat-treated at 700~850°C for 1~2hrs in oxidizing atmosphere to induce Li-diffusion into Ni-Co substrate and Li(Ni0.8Co0.2)O2 phase formation. The phase evolution of Li(Ni0.8Co0.2)O2 was confirmed by X-ray diffraction and the grain size and morphology of the surface were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy and atomic force microscopy. Also the charge and discharge test were conducted to confirm the electrical characteristics of Li(Ni1-xCox)O2/Ni-Co thin film for the cathode application.

Abstract:
The rheological stress recovery (RSR) method was proposed to obtain measurements of in-situ stress. Rock stress can be evaluated by monitoring the recovery process of stress sensors embedded in rock mass. In order to achieve this application, a novel stress sensor employing the fiber Bragg grating (FBG) technique was designed and manufactured. This stress sensor consisted of three parts: A sensing spherical head, connecting rod, and coupler box. In the sensing spherical head, six independent pressure sensing units were assembled together with a temperature compensation unit. In addition, wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) technology was adopted to ensure that only one fiber splice for each stress sensor is output. The fiber splicing of the sensing units was assembled in the coupler box. The transformation equations from the six pressure sensing units to the stress sensor were established. Furthermore, a calibrating device for the stress sensor was designed, and the general calibration and long-term stability tests were carried out to investigate the characteristic indexes (maximum range, full-range output, and sensitivity) and measurement error (zero drift index, hysteresis index, and repeatability index). Measurement errors showed that the degrees of linearity, zero drift, hysteresis, and repeatability were all below 1.5%. The stability test indicated that the creep of the stress sensor can gradually stabilize in 24 days, and the errors were less than 1.5%. As a result, the stress sensor developed here satisfies the requirements for the RSR method and can be used in field.

Abstract:
This paper presents a rack-and-pinion pumping unit. A type of SRD (switched reluctance driver) motor is utilized as the driving unit of the pumping unit. The rotation direction of the output shaft of the motor can change automatically, without reversing mechanism,so it can directly dive the gear box and then drive the rack-and-pinion in which the rack connected with the suck rod. Additionally, a super capacitor unit and control unit of charge and discharge is used to design the balance of the pumping unit. Due to the special balance design and no crank-rocker mechanism in the rack-and-pinion pumping unit, it has features of simple structure, less floor area, well balanced and high running efficiency. The most important is that the stroke and number of punching can be adjusted in a wide range which can adapt to different oil wells.

To investigate how preschoolers acquire a tool use strategy and how they adapt their tool use to a changed situation, 2- to 4-year-olds were asked to retrieve chips from a transparent box with a rod, either by stabbing and lifting through a top opening or by pushing through a front and a back opening. In both conditions, about 40% of the children acquired effective tool use by individual learning, and 90% of the other children learned this by observing only one demonstration. When confronted with a changed situation (i.e., previous opening covered, alternative opening uncovered), children perseverated with the recently learned, but now ineffective tool use strategy. Neither age nor acquisition type of the first strategy affected preschoolers’ perseverations. Results indicate that prior tool use experiences have differential effects in situations that require either transferring known functions to novel objects or using a familiar tool for an alternative purpose.

Abstract:
Because of the great speed range in a finishing block of a wire rod mill, the reduction of torsional vibrations makes it possible to achieve closer rolling tolerances. The components transmitting the torque like gear box, coupling etc. can generate non-smooth or alternating torques which affect the product quality. To study the influences of torsion vibrations on the product quality, the dynamic interactions of the block and rolling process are simultaneously analyzed by a simulation model. As an example, a three stand arrangement is considered. The real transmission system is idealized as a structurally discrete torsional vibration model. The generalized rotational coordinates with a large number of rotational degrees of freedom can be reduced among others constants by means of gear ratios. Euler-Lagrange equations are applied to create the coupled equations of motion, which together constitute an ordinary differential equation of order 28. The rolling and main drive torques are defined as excitation for vibration on the right side of the equation system. A DC motor is selected as main drive and the voltage circuit equation of motor is integrated into the system of differential equations. The armature current and its interaction are consequently simulated. The rotational speed of rolls and motor, as well as roll torques, longitudinal stresses in rod and section widths are shown in diagrams as the result and thereby the torsional vibration of the essential elements of the system are studied for different temperatures and cross-sectional variations.

As a member of the TRIM–NHL family of proteins, TRIM2 has a conserved modular architecture that includes N-terminal RING finger and B-box domains, a middle coiled-coil domain and a C-terminal NHL domain. To characterize the functional role of its NHL domain from the perspective of structural biology, a truncation of human TRIM2 (residues 465–744) was expressed, purified and crystallized. Rod-shaped crystals were obtained that diffracted X-rays to 1.7 Å resolution. Abstract:
Purpose In the background of the post-financial crisis era and the transition of China’s economic development, the frequent occurrence of workplace deviant behavior in the economic field, such as stealing, bribery, caused a huge impact on the enterprise. In recent years, the deviant behavior of employees has been increased noticeably. The purpose of this study is to explore the influence of paternalistic leadership on employee deviant behavior in workplace. To have a deep understanding of the relationship between paternalistic leadership and employee deviant behavior, the author’s design rule oriented ethical climate and self-interest oriented ethical climate as two mediators in this research model. Design/methodology/approach Based on social learning theory and stressor-emotion model, this study conducts an investigation of influence mechanism between paternalistic leadership and workplace deviant behavior. Time-lagged data was collected from 226 employees from six cities in China. To test the hypothesis that the authors developed in this paper, the authors use empirical models from the existing literature about paternalistic leadership on employee deviant behavior. They establish multiple linear regressions to test the hypotheses. Findings This study reveals the direct effect of authoritarian leadership on employee deviant behavior and the moderated roles of benevolent leadership and moral leadership, also analysis the mediated mechanism of self-interest oriented ethical climate and rule oriented ethical climate. The results show that the higher the degree of authority leaders show in the organization, the easier to stimulate workplace deviance of employee, self-interest oriented ethical climate and rule oriented ethical climate play mediated role between authoritarian leadership and workplace deviant behavior. The interaction of benevolent leadership and moral leadership with authoritarian leadership can weaken the self-interest oriented ethical climate but has nothing to do with rule oriented ethical climate. Originality/value This study has three main contributions to the previous literature. First, this study explores the relationship between authoritarian leadership and employee workplace deviance, which could enrich the research on these negative behaviors in the Chinese context. Second, this study unpacks the “black box” in which authoritarian leadership influences employee workplace deviant behavior. Third, this study further examines the impacts of different combinations of the three factors of paternalistic leadership.

Abstract:
In the highways of mountainous areas, the erection of the large-span reinforced concrete box-type arch bridges using the cantilever casting method has unique advantages due to its adaptability to those environments. However, what prevents engineers from choosing this design in practice is that, the efficiency, cost, and safety problems resulting from the defects of the temporary facilities, which are due to the span increase, may immediately make the scheme less attractive. To fully consider the merits of this bridge type, new techniques of the temporary facilities are developed. A new form traveler based on the feathers of such arch rings is invented to promote erection efficacy; this new form further facilitates the technical upgrades of the buckle-anchor system monitoring-control and temporary prestressing design, which together eliminate the difficulties brought by the span increase. The inverted-type triangle traveler composed of tiled main truss structures, with the walking hook and anchor tie rod detached, is used to achieve space adaptability, light weight and modularization. The semiautomatic deviation-rectifying system, which combines the technologies of real-time data collection of the buckle pylon deviations and automatic synchronized tensioning, is developed to ensure the safety of the buckle-anchor system. The temporary short prestressed tendons are designed for control of the arch ring tensile stresses. The effectiveness of the technical upgrades has been demonstrated in the construction application of the Shatuo Bridge in Guizhou, China, which provides a promising alternative for the construction of large-span box-type arch rings of concrete arch bridges with a low cost, high efficiency, and high safety assurance.

Abstract:
Centrifuge testing of reduced-scale models has been used to examine the kinematics of jointed pipelines crossing normal ground faults. The model pipeline was fabricated at 1/30th scale using segments of a semicircular cross section cut from an aluminum rod. Threaded rods were used to connect those segments and model a variety of joints having longitudinal bending stiffnesses from 3% to 47% of the bending stiffness of the pipe segments. The semicircular segments were placed against a glass sidewall of the test box and buried in sand. During testing under 30g, differential ground movements of up to 70% of the pipe diameter were imposed, and the pipe movements were monitored using particle image velocimetry. It is shown that maximum rotations occur at the joints when the shear zone generated by the ground fault passes across the joint rather than the pipe segment, and that joint stiffness has little impact on the pipe kinematics. A simplified kinematic model is introduced that permits straightforward, safe estimates of maximum joint rotation.

Abstract:
It is proposed to improve the technology of erecting buildings from blocks based on using the method of automatic connection and a new composite light modular system including the advantages of both materials, concrete and steel. The authors propose using composite beams and concrete tubular columns, combining in this way the advantages of the concrete system (durability, resistance to water, higher sound insulation) with the advantages of the steel system (less weight, easier and faster installation). The scientific novelty of the method is that the vertical rods connect the columns vertically, and the plates and the horizontal draw plate connect adjacent modules horizontally. The difference between the developed solution and currently used technologies is that in this connection, the vertical connection between the upper and lower modules is carried out by a vertical rod to resist tensile forces, while the columns resist the compressive force. The shear forces between the upper and lower columns are transmitted by means of a support to the base plate, which is welded at the bottom of the column of the upper module.

Abstract:
Beam pumping units are the main production modes in the oilfield oil recovery process. As the power-driven equipment is driven by larger electrical power of the pumping motor, the high energy cost problem is widespread and hard to solve. The motor working efficiency is difficult to accurately match to the complex dynamic loads, as the relationship between the motor driven torque and dynamic loads is hard to master precisely, and the accurate calculation of some important variables cannot be effectively solved by the traditional mechanism modelling method. To solve this problem, in this paper, the dynamic changes of the polished rod loads are considered as the dynamic load changes of the beam pumping units and a serial hybrid model for the motor load torque is studied. Firstly, according to the working principles of the beam pumping units and the mechanism models of the pumping motor, belt pulley-gear box and four-bar linkage mechanism are respectively built. Secondly, for the underground frictions, a rough mechanism model based on the energy conservation equation is built first and then a data-driven soft sensor model is adopted to obtain the dynamic fluid levels instead of an off-line measurement, which uses a C index based on the on-line verification method to prevent the over-fitting in data-driven modelling process. Through the research of this article, a serial hybrid model is proposed to build the dynamic relationship between the pumping motor load torque and the polished rod loads, the underground frictions can be taken as a dynamic variable related to the time and the down-hole dynamic fluid level can be obtained by an on-line calculation. The proposed hybrid modelling method is applied to four normal oil wells, and comparisons between the simulation results and the actual test results verify its effectiveness.

Abstract:
The main purpose of the current research work is to identify and investigate a novel method of holding an intermediate metal and to evaluate its metallurgical and mechanical properties. Copper was used as an interlayer material for the welding of this dissimilar Ti–6Al–4V (Ti alloy) and 304L stainless steel (SS). The study shows that the input parameters and surface geometry played a very significant role in producing a good quality joints with minimum heat affected zone and metal loss. A sound weld was achieved between Ti–6Al–4V and SS304L, on the basis of the earlier experiments conducted by the authors in their laboratory, by using copper rod as intermediate metal. Box–Behnken method was used for performing a minimum number of experiments for the study. In the present study, Ti–6Al–4V alloy and SS304L were joined by a novel method of holding the interlayer and new surface geometry for the interlayer. Initially, the drop test was used for determining the quality of the fabricated joint and, subsequently, non-destructive techniques like radiography and C-scan were used. Further optical micrograph, SEM–EDS, hardness and tensile test were done for understanding the performance of the joint.

Abstract:
Various simple activities are being developed by the French Comité de Liaison Enseignants Astronomes (CLEA) in the training of school teachers. We give in the following one example of a very simple instrument which we call “Alphonse’s box,” after Alphonse Delavergne who invented it. It is also called a heliograph. This very simple and inexpensive instrument enables (1) the plotting of the daily apparent path of the sun, (2) the determination of the duration of sunlight, and (3) the determination of the declination of the sun. The following description is due to Maryse Jonas:1. photosensitive paper (used by architects) that can be handled in semi-darkness; its sensitive face is yellow and it is developed by the vapor of an ordinary ammonia solution in about ten minutes;2. a simple can, with a cover that will shut tight; approximate dimensions: diameter 10 cm, height 15 cm, with a hole about 0.5 mm in diameter on one side;3. two pieces of wood, 15 x 15 cm and 15 x 20 cm; one butt hinge; one threaded rod with two nuts and two washers.

"Application of Box–Behnken Design to Investigate the Effect of Process Parameters on the Microparticle Production of Ethenzamide through the Rapid Expansion of the Supercritical Solutions Process." Abstract:
In this study, the rapid expansion of the supercritical solutions (RESS) process was used to produce microparticles of a commonly used anti-inflammatory drug, ethenzamide. The effects of process parameters in RESS including the extraction temperature, pre-expansion temperature, and post-expansion temperature were investigated using the Box–Behnken design. According to the results of the analysis of variance (ANOVA), the effect of pre-expansion temperature is the most significant parameter on the mean size of RESS-produced ethenzamide. A higher pre-expansion temperature benefits the production of smaller crystals. In addition, a quadratic effect of the post-expansion temperature was also identified. Through RESS, ethenzamide microparticles with a mean size of 1.6 μm were successfully produced. The solid-state properties including the crystal habit, crystal form, thermal behavior, and spectrometric property were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier-transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR), differential scanning calorimeter (DSC), and powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD). These analytical results show that the rod-like crystals were generated through RESS, and the crystal form, thermal behavior, and spectrometric property of RESS-produced crystals are consistent with the unprocessed ethenzamide.
