The name of Robert Estienne (1501–59), the great French humanist, printer and editor, as well as leading scholar in Latin and Greek studies, is associated with his exile from Catholic France to Calvinist Geneva around 1547. Ever since his departure, the question has been raised whether it was legitimate for the Royal Printer to leave Paris. Beyond the case of Estienne himself, who has come to be viewed as a symbol of religious persecution and a precursor of modern democracy, what is at stake is the complex relation of an intellectual to his society and his country, the writing of a national history filled with great and illustrious men, and the difficult duty of individual conscience.

Questions of life and death are primarily philosophical questions, as philosopher Robert Spaemann argues. Spaemann argues that “brain death” is philosophically unsatisfactory as a definition of death, and as the exclusive criterion for determining death, for two main reasons: first, because it attempts to annul the basic perceptions of the ordinary person in regard to death. Second, because the cause of life and unity in a living being cannot be reduced to the brain. This essay is an explication of Spaemann’s contribution to the “brain death” question, which consists in illuminating the philosophical issues at stake. Summary: This article presents Robert Spaemann’s philosophical case that “brain death” suffices neither as a definition of death nor as the sole criterion of death.

In French, the term reprise (revival) is polysemous to a high degree. Starting with a short redefinition of the term, our present concern is to make clear its historical evolution and to analyse the contexts in which theatre directors are using it today. Whether the motives for a revival be economic, emotional or aesthetical, the phenomenon becomes more and more important in the perspective of a globalization of the major theatrical productions. From Giorgio Strehler's seven revivals of Goldoni's Servant of Two Masters to the several versions in different languages of one performance by Robert Wilson or Robert Lepage, what is at stake in a revival has changed considerably: this is what this article will attempt to clarify.

The seminal study of race and Brazilian cinema is Robert Stam’s “Tropical Multiculturalism”. Since the publication of this groundbreaking book in 1997, there has been remarkably little effort by Brazilian film scholars or critics to deepen and build upon Stam’s central claims or extend his analysis to the 21st century. In this article I hope to reverse this trend and invigorate more discussion and study of racial politics and Brazilian film. To this end, I detail the ways that Brazilian cinema continues to be complicit with white supremacy, highlight and analyze some of the most notable antiracist Brazilian films that have been produced in recent years, and underscore what is at stake for Brazilian society if cultural workers, such as filmmakers, do not reverse course and begin taking on racism in a much more intentional and sustained way.Keywords: Robert Stam. As a research method, case studies are often used in qualitative research, but there is no agreement on research procedures. Case studies have been widely used in psychology, which is not only used in the context of research but it has different meanings. The purpose of this article is to provide a description of the case study as a research method, by providing an overview of the procedures for conducting research which includes when case studies can be used, research design, data collection, data validity, and data analysis. This article seeks to help emerging researchers in the field of psychology with several views from Robert Yin and Robert Stake. This article helps researchers to familiarize themselves with the procedures of qualitative research using case studies. A case study approach that is applied correctly can be a valuable method for conducting research, especially in the field of psychology as a means of developing theory, evaluating programs, developing interventions.

Com o objetivo de contribuir para o enfrentamento desses problemas, o artigo busca examinar, na literatura sobre o tema, dois aspectos fundamentais para a discussão: a natureza dos estudos de caso e a questão da generalização ou da aplicabilidade do conhecimento, gerado por esse tipo de pesquisa, a outros contextos. Com base nas posições de dois dos mais reconhecidos especialistas em estudos de caso - Robert Yin e Robert Stake - são discutidos os critérios para avaliar se determinada pesquisa pode ou não ser classificada como um estudo de caso, bem como as alternativas à generalização de tipo estatístico oferecidas por aqueles autores.

Robert Fogelin has argued that in deep disagreements, resolution cannot be achieved by rational argumentation. In response, Richard Feldman has claimed that deep disagreements can be resolved in a similar way to more everyday disagreements. I argue that Feldman’s claim is based on a relatively superficial notion of “resolution” of a disagreement whereas the notion at stake in Fogelin’s argument is more substantive. Furthermore, I argue that Feldman’s reply is based on a particular reading of Fogelin’s argument. There is an alternative reading, which takes the central concern to be the role of common ground in argumentation. Engaging with this version of Fogelin’s argument is also a worthwhile endeavour.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi pelaksanaan perkuliahan pengajaran mikro di sebuah program studi PGSD di Nusa Tenggara. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian evaluasi program berdasarkan model Robert E. Stake terhadap tiga kelas pengajaran mikro yang dianalisis secara kualitatif. Teknik pengumpulan data yang digunakan adalah observasi, dokumentasi, dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa pengajaran mikro di program studi PGSD yang menjadi subyek penelitian adalah a) pada komponen antecedent; persiapan pembelajaran sudah dilaksanakan dengan cukup baik yaitu dosen menyusun silabus dan instrumen penilaian tetapi belum menyusun RPP/RPS, sarana prasarana pembelajaran tersedia cukup lengkap tetapi laboratorium pembelajaran belum sesuai standar ketersediaan laboratorium micro teaching yang benar; b) pada komponen transactions pelaksanaan pembelajaran belum dilengkapi modul, namun pembelajaran dilaksanakan cukup baik dengan strategi pembelajaran teori dan praktik, menggunakan metode ceramah, diskusi, penugasan dan pembelajaran daring; c) pada komponen outcomes, hasil belajar dari rata-rata nilai adalah 77,18 dan sudah memenuhi KKM.This study aims to evaluate the implementation of micro teaching lectures in a PGSD study program in Nusa Tenggara. This research is a program evaluation study based on the Robert E. Stake model of three micro teaching classes which were analyzed qualitatively. The data collection techniques used were observation, documentation, and interviews. The results of this study indicate that the micro teaching in the PGSD study program which is the subject of research is a) on the antecedent component; learning preparation has been carried out quite well, namely lecturers compile syllabus and assessment instruments but have not compiled RPP/RPS, learning infrastructure is quite complete, but learning laboratories are not in accordance with the standards of the correct availability of micro teaching laboratories; b) in the transactions component, the implementation of learning is not equipped with modules, but learning is carried out quite well with theoretical and practical learning strategies, using lectures, discussions, assignments and online learning methods; c) in the outcomes component, the learning result from the average score is 77.18 and has met the KKM.

AbstractIn 2010, the Alabama GOP took control of the state legislature for the first time since Reconstruction. The next year, in a sharply partisan vote, the legislature passed, and Governor Robert Bentley (R) signed into law, the Beason-Hammon Alabama Taxpayer and Citizen Protection Act, also known as House Bill 56, the harshest immigration law in the country. This punitive state law was the impetus for Black elites in Birmingham to frame the immigration debate as a matter of civil rights and thus to see the issue in a new light. When Alabama Republicans moved to the Right on immigration, Black leaders in Birmingham moved Left. In this study, backed up by an event analysis of local newspapers, an analysis of interviews with members of the Black elite in Birmingham in 2013, who were previously interviewed in 2007, helps to substantiate this claim. In the summer of 2007, against the backdrop of an immigration debate in Washington, our Black elite study participants largely told us they had no stake in immigration. By 2013, many were willing to fight for immigrant rights at the highest level.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengevaluasi program Program Pendidikan Inklusi Tahun Akademik 2016/2017. Evaluasi ini menerapkan model Robert E. Stake, meliputi: antecedents, transaction, dan outcomes. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Sekolah Islam Fitrah AL Fikri Depok. Pengumpulan data penelitian dilakukan dengan menggunakan instrumen yaitu: angket, wawancara, observasi, dan studi dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Antecedents: Secara umum kategori tinggi. Dari semua aspek yang dinilai ada pada kategori tinggi dan hanya satu aspek ada pada kategori sedang. Fasilitas utama dan pendukung kategori sangat memadai, dan evaluasi terhadap kondisi fisik sarana dan prasarana kategori sangat baik; (2) Transaction: Secara umum kategori tinggi. Berdasarkan hasil penilaian tersebut diperoleh skor rata-rata sebesar 66,77 (80,29%) termasuk ke dalam kategori tinggi, yaitu 53,33 < X; dan (3) Outcomes: hasil belajar siswa ABK di SIF AL-Fikri termasuk ke dalam kategori tinggi.

Praktik kerja jurnalis tidak terlepas dari nilai-nilai jurnalistik yang terkandung di dalamnya. Nilai-nilai seperti objektivitas, kecepatan, dan keberimbangan masih menjadi ukuran profesionalitas jurnalis. Akan tetapi, pada praktiknya beberapa nilai jurnalistik justru membatasi kerja jurnalisme dan berindikasi menghasilkan laporan yang dangkal. Untuk menjawab persoalan tersebut, jurnalisme mengadopsi pendekatan etnografi dalam ilmu sosial atau yang dikenal etno-jurnalisme. Etno-jurnalisme penting dalam rangka menghasilkan laporan yang holistik dan mendalam di tengah-tengah kerja jurnalis yang lebih mengutamakan kecepatan. Oleh karena itu, peneliti ingin mengaji bagaimana praktik etno-jurnalisme dalam produksi film dokumenter Jakarta Unfair. Untuk menemukan jawaban dari riset ini, peneliti menggunakan penelitian kualitatif dengan pembahasan eksplanatif dan menggunakan metode studi kasus model Robert E. Stake. Abstract:
The paper maps the value of case study in management research. In particular, it deals with the paradigmatic aspects of case study as a research strategy. In order to analyse the convergence and divergence on different dimensions of the case study research, I focus on three well-known methodology experts, namely Robert Yin, Sharan Merriam and Robert Stake. I argue that case study is a comprehensive research strategy. It has the capacity to embrace paradigm plurality representing both inductive and deductive strategies. Because of its epistemological, ontological and methodological flexibility case study has become one of the established research approaches in management. There is no fixed set of methods for the case study research. This depends on the ontological presuppositions of the researchers. The significance of the ontology becomes apparent depending on the nature of the case and the types of the research questions. As case study research is reflexive, flexible and context-specific, it allows emerging contexts to shape methods. That is why it can act as a bridge across the research paradigms. I then look at the considerable influence that the case study approach has on the management research, i.e., the role for case study in the research process. Because of its overarching role, multi-paradigmatic approach can be adopted under case study research. Case study research is, in practice a varied methodology with paradigmatic pluralism covering an array of research methods and techniques and different levels of analysis.

Inicialmente, por ser um trabalho de equipe, a avaliação é vista segundo uma perspectiva democrática e realça a função aglutinante do avaliador em um trabalho de equipe. This essay questions the thesis of the supposed syncretic nature of the religion of Bulgarian-speaking Muslims, an idea still espoused in Bulgarian ethnography and popular among the Rhodope Christian population. It examines the Muslim motivations for attending Christian holy places in the Rhodopes, particularly the Monastery of St George in Hadzhidimovo, to gather evidence from the actual participants. It shows that the local Muslims and Christians offer incompatible interpretations of the Muslim practice. Furthermore, it takes into account Muslim and Christian testimonies on how Muslims behave in the monastery of St George, and how their gestures are interpreted by both groups. Although the Muslim narratives betray a rather anti-syncretic attitude to Christianity, the Christians sometimes tend to see them as actual crypto-Christians. In my conclusions I stake out a position in the recent polemic between Glenn Bowman and Robert Hayden concerning the specificity of interactions between dissenters at sacred shrines.

I explore a connection between Robert Nozick's account of decision value/symbolic utility in The Nature of Rationality1 and F. P. Ramsey's discussion of ethically neutral propositions in his 1926 essay ‘Truth and Probability’,2 a discussion that Brian Skyrms in Choice and Chance3 credits with disclosing deeper foundations for expected utility than the celebrated Theory of Games and Economic Behavior4 of von Neumann and Morgenstern. Ramsey's recognition of ethically non-neutral propositions is essential to his foundational work, and the similarity of these propositions to symbolic utility helps make the case that the latter belongs to the apparatus that constructs expected utility, rather than being reducible to it or being part of a proposal that can be cheerfully ignored. I conclude that decision value replaces expected utility as the central idea in (normative) decision theory. Expected utility becomes an approximation that is good enough when symbolic utility is not at stake.

From the 1960s to the early 1980s educational equity was an important focus for schools, supported by initiatives undertaken by the federal government. This paper takes the position that equity programs developed during that period were suffused with ambiguities, which both aided and hindered the evolution of viable definitions and demonstrations of educational equity. The paper focuses on the National Sex Equity Demonstration Project, a 4-year, joint effort of the University of Miami and the School Board of Broward County funded by the Women’s Educational Equity Act Program. This project was characterized by uncertainty in goals, technologies, roles, relationships, structures, interpretations, and outcomes. The work of March, Cohen, and Olsen on educational systems as organized anarchies is drawn upon extensively to provide a theoretical base for the analysis. The project evaluation conducted by Robert and Bernadine Stake is helpful in illuminating the experience. The paper concludes that the project made a modest but important contribution to the definition of educational equity.

In 2004, Robert Stake published a provocative article that asked: “How Far Dare an Evaluator Go Toward Saving the World?” This question raises the issue of what role evaluators’ values play in the conduct of evaluations. Following review of Stake’s premises, I present value statements from a diverse group of 40 evaluators working with philanthropic foundations. The results update and revise Stake’s list of “six advocacies common in evaluation.” The findings capture changes in evaluation language and substantive concerns over the last 15 years regarding evaluators’ values and engagement. The conclusion affirms Stake’s original overarching principle. In closing, I offer an additional concern toward saving the world not on Stake’s list or that of the evaluators sampled: global sustainability and environmental justice in the face of the global pandemic and climate emergency. This process of inquiry generated a facilitation tool for use by evaluators, presented here, to support reflective practice about evaluators’ values.

We approach this paper with a shared investment in historical and contemporary representations of trans and gender non-conforming people, and our individual research in the archives of early US Gender Clinics. Together, we consider what is at stake—or what might be possible—when we connect legacies of photography used as diagnostic tools in gender clinics with snapshots of early, community-based gatherings, and the presence of trans people in contemporary art. From the archives of Robert J. Stoller and photos of Casa Susanna, to the collaborative photography of Zackary Drucker and Amos Mac, and the biometric data art-theory experiments of Zach Blas, we engage a series of image-based projects, which animate underlying questions and socio-political debates about the politics of visuality, and visibility’s impact on trans and gender non-conforming people. Moreover, we argue that rhetorical strategies of proof—from conditions verified in clinics to shared existence through photography—are tethered to, and thus trapped by, the logics and discipline of legibility and re-institutionalization.

Assumindo-se uma abordagem metodológica interpretativista, pode-se discutir o PNAES sob distintas epistemologias: do positivismo, do utilitarismo que dele emerge, do funcionalismo, do sistemismo, da dialética e da complexidade, o que nos permite adentrar na proposta de estilo literário apresentada por Robert Stake e Michael Watts, num episteme crescente. Este aspecto é importante, pois a interpretação acerca das coisas depende muito da visão de mundo de quem interpreta, e da própria sequência em que novos olhares são lançados, ideia amparada na dialética. Este artigo também traduz a experiência de gestão dos autores do estudo no campo da Assistência Estudantil, bem como de suas condições de pesquisadores em três universidades públicas federais. O estudo considera a necessidade da epistemologia dialética para o aperfeiçoamento do PNAES, mesmo tendo constatado finalmente que, na atual conjuntura, há maior identificação com a epistemologia da complexidade.

Résumé Les établissements Thunevin évoluent dans la production et le négoce de vin. Robert Parker, célèbre critique américain et créateur de la non moins célèbre revue The Wine Advocate, a qualifié leur fondateur et dirigeant, Jean-Luc Thunevin, de « bad boy ». Ce terme peut traduire une forme de déviance par rapport aux règles de conduite instituées dans un univers d’action particulier ou, autrement dit, par rapport aux registres conventionnels des espaces sociaux investis. Pour appréhender cette originalité, nous avons choisi d’adopter une perspective conventionnaliste pour apprendre du succès des établissements Thunevin. En effet, parti de rien, Jean-Luc Thunevin est aujourd’hui emblématique du mouvement des « vins de garage ». Ainsi, l’entreprise a porté son cru fétiche, Château Valandraud, au sommet de l’appellation en devenant premier grand cru classé de Saint-Émilion lors du classement de 2012 (les vins de Saint-Émilion sont soumis au classement de façon décennale). Cette réussite exceptionnelle incitait à une étude de cas intrinsèque, laquelle s’est combinée à une étude de cas instrumentale (Stake, 1994, 1995) par la lumière que le cas des établissements Thunevin prenait sous l’éclairage de la perspective conventionnaliste.

Eva Erman and Niklas Möller have recently criticised a range of political theorists for committing a pragmatistic fallacy, illicitly drawing normative conclusions from politically neutral ideas about language. This paper examines their critique with respect to one of their primary targets: the pragmatist approach to political legitimacy that I proposed in earlier work, which draws on Robert Brandom’s theory of language. I argue that the charge relies on a misrepresentation of the role of pragmatist ideas about language in my analysis of legitimacy. Pragmatism’s significance for thinking about political legitimacy does not lie in the normative conclusions it justifies but in the way it reorients our thinking towards political practice. This raises the deeper question of what we are to expect from a theory of legitimacy. I argue that Erman and Möller presuppose a widely held but unduly restrictive conception of what a normative theory of legitimacy consists in and that pragmatism can broaden the scope of enquiry: a theory of legitimacy should not focus narrowly on the content and justification of criteria, but more fundamentally aim to explicate the forms of political activity in which such criteria are at stake.

Devotional writers of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries liked to promote their works as an antidote to the toxic polemical literature of the period. Even Robert Persons, the fiercely tenacious and effective polemicist for the Catholic cause, and a favorite Jesuit “bogeyman” in anti-Catholic propaganda, professed to desire a future when Christians would focus their energies on cultivation of the inner spiritual life. However, the irenic dispositions of these writers were counterbalanced by both polemical pressures of the day and deep-seated convictions regarding the true church. The ideological stake in devotion is foregrounded in Edmund Bunny’s Protestant appropriation of Persons’s devotional best-seller, the Christian Directory. This article places Persons/Bunny in the context of the struggles between English Catholics and the English government (and, for that matter, between Catholics) regarding political and religious loyalties. It is argued that the writing—and especially the reading—of such works of devotion in the highly charged polemical environment of this period constitutes a still under-appreciated contribution to the formation of early modern subjectivity. The Persons/Bunny episode is an important chapter in a larger literary struggle for control of conscience.

Proses yaitu interaksi edukasi antara masukan sarana, terutama pendidik, dengan masukan mentah yaitu peserta didik, untuk mencapai tujuan kurikulum. Sedangkan tujuan kurikulum mencakup tujuan jangka menengah yaitu keluaran dan tujuan akhir yaitu pengaruh atau dampak program pendidikan nonformal. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian evaluatif dengan pendekatan kuantitatif menggunakan model evaluasi Countenance yang dikembangkan oleh Robert Stake dengan membandingkan matrik deksripsi dan matrik penilaian pada kriteria antecendent, transaction dan outcome. Sampel dari populasi penelitian adalah pendidik pada LKP program menjahit di Kabupaten Bandung Barat yang telah memiliki Nomer Pokok Sekolah Nasional (NPSN). Teknik analisis data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan pengujian Chi-Square untuk mengetahui perbedaan yang signifikan antara standar kurikulum yang berlaku secara nasional dengan implementasi pada LKP program menjahit. Hasil yang diharapkan dari penelitian ini adalah informasi terkait kesesuaian implementasi kurikulum pada LKP program menjahit dengan standar yang berlaku secara nasional, dan improvisasi dari pihak penyelenggara kursus untuk menyesuaikan terhadap kebutuhan dunia kerja dan dunia industri.

This article aims to conduct a metalexicographical micro-analysis of a paradigm of French lexemes whose uses have raised socio-political issues for several decades: integration, insertion, assimilation, inclusion, even acculturation and incorporation. While many recent publications bring these terms into play as sociological concepts, or study their uses in political discourse, work on the semantic functioning and uses of these lexemes in other discourses is rarer. However, the recurrent nomination conflict that runs through French public policies on immigration shows that the stakes of these usages remain salient. Do French dictionaries make it possible to grasp the ideological issues raised by the competing uses of lexemes? How do they treat and model the abundance of uses of these lexemes? How are paradigmatic competitors related: opposition, contrast, synonymy, hyperonymy, co-hyponymy? What are the salient semantic features retained in the given definitions?The corpus selected for this study is composed of extracts from two generalist French-language dictionaries, the Petit Robert de la langue française and the Trésor de la Langue Française informatisé. I analyse the production of meaning at work by using a grid with four entries. First, I model and analyze the semantic relations established between the terms of the paradigm, relations which structure the paradigm. I then try to identify the semantic features which are similar or different between the lexemes, thus revealing another type of structure in the micro-system. Last, I work on the collocations and the agentive configurations implemented in the definitions and examples composing each article.All these analyses highlight a defining circularity that hinders a contrastive grasp of the lexemes, in a context where important social and political issues are at stake.

This article examines the arguments offered by Will Hutton (2002) in drawing out a whole set of crucial differences between American and European capitalism, and why we should prefer the European version. The essential difference, as he sees it, is that while there is an ultimate preference for liberty and individualism in America, there are still in Europe a whole set of interlinked, positive attitudes towards equality, social solidarity, and the importance of public discourse. Hutton argues for the importance of these differences because, as he sees it, under the influence of the individualist values implicit in American capitalism, “the idea of the public realm is in eclipse, and with it a conception of civilization.” Hutton hinges his argument around a contrast between with the ideas of two American social theorists: the conservativism of Robert Nozick (1974) with its fixation on individual freedom as a single, political value that trumps all others, and the liberalism of John Rawls (1972) and his arguments for egalitarianism. However, as I see it, more than a contest of ideas is at stake. An issue of a much deeper kind is involved, one that goes right to the very heart of how we should conduct our reasoning in social affairs from now on. Rather than arguments over ideas, the devising and implementing of new, dialogically-structured, participatory practices is required, practices which are constitutive of “public spheres in private places” (Pålshaugen 2002). Here is where we can find important new European leads.

Ever since Plato coined the metaphor, it has been tempting to treat the history of philosophy as a series of battles between Gods and Giants, as a ‘clash of argument’ between idealists and materialists, rationalists and naturalists, and idealists and realists. Many commentators, provoked by Hegel's combative remarks, have been led to see the Kant-Hegel relation in this way; and yet it has not always been easy to determine either what the issue between these two antagonists really is, or indeed which of them is the Giant and which the God. Robert Pippin, in his new book, Hegel's Idealism: The Satisfactions of Self-Consciousness (Cambridge University Press, Cambridge, 1989, pp. xii + 327, hb £30.00, pb £10.95) casts new light on the nature of the struggle, and makes clear what was at stake: a non-rationalist, non-metaphysical answer to the sceptic, and with it absolute knowledge. Pippin's densely written but engrossing book provides the focus of discussion for this issue of the Bulletin. The contributions by H.S. Harris and Terry Pinkard offer critical comments on Pippin's approach to Hegel, and they are followed with a response by Pippin himself. These pieces were originally presented as a meeting of the Western APA, and assume an acquaintance with Pippin's argument, which I will try to outline in what follows. Like many recent commentators, Pippin begins by insisting that we take seriously Hegel's claim to have ‘completed’ Kant, and so rejects any metaphysical, rationalist readng of Hegel. On the other hand, Pippin wants to understand Hegel's claim to have found a form of idealism that answers Kant's transcendental scepticism regarding the ‘thing-in-itself’, without collapsing back into rationalism.

Subyek penelitian adalah seorang siswi SD berusia 11 tahun High School Musical (HSM). Namun berbeda dengan teman-temannya, Alia tidak ikut tergila-gila mengumpulkan pernak-pernik bertema HSM, tidak pula ikut sampai Metode dan strategi dalam penelitian yang melandasi penulisan makalah ini adalah studi kasus intrinsik dari Robert E. Stake. Pemilihan informan dilakukan secara purposif, selaras dengan karakter model studi kasus yang digunakan. Peneliti melihat fenomena melalui sudut pandang paradigma konstruktivis. Sementara itu teori utama yang menjadi pisau analisis adalah teori resepsi model encoding-decoding dari Stuart Hall. Selain berisi ringkasan penelitian, penulis menambahkan data yang berkenaan dengan peran mediasi orang tua dalam membentuk resistensi anak terhadap tayangan media, khususnya televisi. Melalui makalah ini kita dapat melihat bagaimana model encoding-decoding Stuart Hall digunakan untuk menganalisis resepsi aktif tayangan film dan bagaimana faktor ekstrateks berperan dalam penentuan posisi pembacaan subyek terhadap isi teks. Penelitian ini mengungkapkan bahwa faktor ekstrateks disekitar Alia menghasilkan konsep diri yang kuat, keterbukaan pikiran, dan toleransi terhadap perbedaan, sehingga Alia dapat menempatkan diri sebagai pembaca aktif. Temuan penelitian diharapkan dapat bermanfaat sebagai panduan untuk mereplikasi faktor ekstrateks yang dibutuhkan dalam rangka membentuk perilaku kritis anak-anak ketika mengonsumsi media. Tentu saja ini penting mengingat televisi dan film sebagai bagian dari media massa merupakan perangkat yang cukup vital bagi penyebarluasan nilai-nilai budaya dan anak-anak sering kali dianggap sangat rentan terhadap pengaruh televisi dan film. Czech national hero paradigm – around Robert Sedláček’s film Jan Palach In my article, I would like to reflect on the paradigm of Czech heroism based on the film by Robert Sedláček (2018) Jan Palach, which is a fact-based tale of a twenty-year-old student at the Charles University in Prague, who on January 16, 1969 self-immolated in Wenceslas Square in the centre of Prague in protest against aggression of the Warsaw Pact forces on Czechoslovakia and the growing apathy of Czechoslovak society. I will think about how his image is constructed in a film more than fifty years after his death. I will place my considerations in the context of the tradition of presenting the Czech hero in humanistic literature and the activities of official state institutions, as well as in relation to mythological structures, through which I will capture the most important elements of the composition of Robert Sedláček’s film. As a consequence, my fundamental research question will remain not only the question of the very construction of the hero, but also this construction in relation to other ideas of national heroes in contemporary Czech culture. Streszczenie W swoim artykule chciałbym się zastanowić na paradygmatem czeskiego bohaterstwa na podstawie filmu Roberta Sedláčka Jan Palach (2018), będącego opartą na faktach opowieścią o dwudziestojednoletnim studencie Uniwersytetu Karola w Pradze, który 16 stycznia 1969 roku dokonał samospalenia na placu Wacława w centrum Pragi, w proteście przeciwko agresji wojsk Układu Warszawskiego na Czechosłowację i narastającej apatii czechosłowackiego społeczeństwa. Zastanowię się nad tym, w jaki sposób konstruowany jest jego obraz w dziele filmowym niemal pięćdziesiąt lat po jego śmierci. Swoje rozważania umieszczę w kontekście refleksji nad czeskim bohaterem narodowym w literaturze humanistycznej w odniesieniu do działalności oficjalnych instytucji państwowych oraz do struktur mitologicznych, poprzez które uchwycę najistotniejsze elementy kompozycji filmu Roberta Sedláčka. W konsekwencji moim zasadniczym pytaniem badawczym pozostanie nie tylko kwestia samej konstrukcji bohatera, ale również jej relacja do innych wyobrażeń bohaterów narodowych we współczesnej kulturze czeskiej.

The recent debate in the United States' gerontological literature on ‘anti-ageing medicine’ has profound significance for the discipline of gerontology. This review article discusses three major contributions to the debate and assesses the meaning of the wider debate for gerontology. A paper by Olshansky, Hayflick and Carnes, published in the Scientific American in May 2002, aimed at a popular science readership rather than gerontologists and had an overtly campaigning purpose. Among the many responses to the paper, that by Robert H. Binstock in The Gerontologist in February 2003 places the concerns expressed by Olshansky et al. in an historical context, and draws out its significance for gerontology as a discipline. Binstock believes that the central issue is legitimacy. What characteristics distinguish scientific endeavour that seeks an understanding of the fundamental biology of human ageing from quackery and pseudo-science? Does the ‘anti-ageing movement’ have a place in legitimate science? Also reviewed is a special issue of Generations, the journal of the American Society on Aging, on ‘Anti-Aging: Are You For It Or Against It?’. Amongst other distinguished contributions, the leading moral philosopher of old age, Harry Moody, explores key issues in ‘Who's afraid of life extension?’ The debate represented by these papers is significant not only for bio-medical but also social gerontology and for our understanding of the cultural position of old age in modern society.

In the early thirteenth century the papal cardinal legate in France, Robert of Courson, painted the business of lending in wholly Utopian colours. Should the pope decree, he said, that lending must cease and all men must earn their sustenance by the sweat of their brow, ‘Thus would be removed all usurers, all factious men and all robbers; thus would charity flourish and the fabric of the churches again be builded; and thus would all be brought back again to its pristine state.’ The prospect that acting to eliminate lending would so smoothly result in social perfection, one might expect, should have propelled the Catholic Church, led by the popes, to have made a frontal assault on lending, especially that carried on by Jews. It did not. Background: To evaluate the effectiveness of the Robert view in assessing trapeziometacarpal arthrosis and to compare the accuracy of the Robert and lateral views in staging trapeziometacarpal (TM) joint arthrosis. Methods: Patient demographics were obtained. Four participating raters reviewed 62 randomly selected thumb x-rays of patients presenting with thumb TM joint pain. Lateral and Robert-hyperpronation views were assessed using an analysis of 13 criteria. Results: X-rays of 62 thumbs for 58 patients were evaluated. The average patients' age was 64 (47-87) and 51 (80%) were females. The majority of X-rays evaluated fell into stage 3. Stage 2 was the second most common level of arthritis encountered and the least was stage 1. More osteophytes were encountered in the trapezium than metacarpal on both the Robert and lateral views. The Robert view was superior in detecting osteophytes on the trapezium than the lateral view. Osteophyte size varied from 1.7 to 2 mm. The lateral view displayed 61 cases with dorsal metacarpal subluxation (98%). The Robert view displayed 48 cases (77%) with radial metacarpal subluxation and 9 cases (15%) with ulnar metacarpal subluxation. Thumb metacarpal adduction deformity was encountered on the lateral view in 20 cases (32%) whereas on the Robert view it was encountered in 14 cases (23%). Subchondral sclerosis was encountered on the Robert view in 56 thumbs (90%) while it was seen on the lateral view in 52 thumbs (84%). Pantrapezial arthritis involving the STT joint was encountered equally in 16 cases (26%) on the Robert view and the lateral views. The study found a moderate level of interrater reliability on both the lateral and Robert views. With the exception of osteophytes encountered on the trapezium versus the metacarpal, there were no other statistically significant findings. Conclusions: This study confirms that each of the Robert and lateral views offer unique information and combining both views enhances the ability to assess radiographic disease severity, and should be the recommended set of X-rays for assessing TM osteoarthrosis.

In the summer of 1535 Anglo-German relatios assumed a new dimension. Faced with the prospect of a Catholic alliance on the continent and the possibility of a general council in the near future, Henry VIII was forced to consider more seriously than ever before a defensive alliance with the German Protestants. In August of that year, while Robert Barnes was approaching Wittenberg via Hamburg, commissioned by Henry both to prevent Melanchthon's rumoured visit to France and to make preparations for a full diplomatic mission to the princes of Lutheran Germany, Philip Melanchthon sent copies of the latest edition of his Loci Communes to the king of England, to whom they had been dedicated. The envoy on this mission was the Scottish Augustinian, Alexander Alesius, who was lecturing at the University of Wittenberg at that time. Alesius had received his own university education in St Andrews. Upon his graduation in 1515, he had entered the Augustinian priory there and subsequently proceeded to the study of theology. As a successful student of scholastic theology he had felt himself called to refute Lutheran theology as soon as it began to be debated in Scotland. In February 1528 he was commissioned to bring about the recantation of Patrick Hamilton, but the discussions with this first martyr of the Scottish Reformation as well as the latter's steadfast death at the stake led to a profound questioning of his own convictions. In the following year Alesius emerged as a severe critic ofthe old Church, for which he paid dearly by persecution and imprisonment. After an adventurous escape from St Andrews and months of travelling he finally reached Wittenburg, where he was inscribed in the faculty of arts in October 1532. So far very litde is known about Alesius' activities in Wittenberg. Yet there are two reasons why some elucidation of his academic activities and theological development during his three years at Wittenberg is highly desirable. First, it would be surprising indeed if his first experiences at this university, and especially the direct contact with Luther and Melanchthon, had not left a mark on his thought and career as a reformer. Second, his close friendship with the English reformers and his involvement in the doctrinal debates in England during the late 1530s suggests that Alesius formed an important link between the Reformation in England and in Germany.

In 1983 Robert N. Minor and Robert D. Baird wrote a piece for The Bulletin that discussed what it means to teach religion academically in a public university in the United States. By dismantling other popular notions of what it meant to teach religion in a public university—such as the inculcation of values despite the preference this method shows for one religious system over another—the authors illustrate the flaws in these pedagogical styles and ultimately propose a new purpose for teaching religion. This new purpose they highlight strives not to promote one value system over another, or to propose one way of doing religion is right or wrong, but to promote understanding among students by showcasing the individuality that exists within religious traditions.

The use of armed force inside the territory of a country is a matter that involves the rights and responsibilities of the territorial state. Control over the use of force is a fundamental aspect of the state's sovereignty. With respect to other states, it is the territorial state that has rights. Article 2(4) of the United Nations Charter provides that “[a]ll Members shall refrain in their international relations from the threat or use of force against the territorial integrity or political independence of any state, or in any other manner inconsistent with the Purposes of the United Nations.” This obligation extends from one state to another state. The government of the territorial state might have obligations under the domestic law of that state to defend its territory, or to prohibit the use of force by any other state within its territory, but any such obligation is not a matter of international law and another state is not bound or limited by such domestic law provision.

The crude comes from oil fields in Block A, comprising 3083 km2 of the Khmer basin in the oil-rich Gulf of Thailand, off the southwestern coast of Sihanoukville. The concession will progress in phases once new wells are commissioned and completed. Kelvin Tang, chief executive of KrisEnergy’s Cambodian operations, called the 29 December event “an important strategic milestone” for the company, while Prime Minister Hun Sen hailed the first extraction as “a new achievement for Cambodia’s economy” and “a huge gift for our nation.” Ironbark Australian Exploration Well Declared Dry; Co-Owner Stocks Plummet BP has come up dry at its Ironbark-1 exploration well, the anticipated multi-trillion-scf prospect off the west Australian Pilbara coast. The disappointing prospect was once seen as a potential gas supplier to the emptying North West Shelf (NWS) LNG plant, where BP is a co-owner, within 5 to 10 years. Heirs Holdings Buys 45% of Shell Nigeria’s OML 17 Field Shell Nigeria announced on 15 January it had completed a $533 million sale of its stakes in an onshore OML 17 oil field in Nigeria to African strategic investor Heirs Holdings, Nigeria’s largest publicly listed conglomerate. The deal is one of the largest oil and gas financings in Africa in more than a decade, with a financing component of $1.1 billion provided by a consortium of global and regional banks and investors. Heirs Holdings, in partnership with Transcorp, one of the largest power producers in Nigeria with 2000 MW of installed capacity, purchased 45% stake in the field. It acquired the stakes of Shell, Total, and Eni to further its expansion into the oil and gas industry. Apex Discovers Oil in Egypt’s Western Desert Privately held independent E&P firm Apex International Energy, backed in part by UK energy investment firm Blue Water Energy, on 18 January announced a discovery in the Southeast Meleiha Concession (SEM) in the western desert of Egypt. The discovery was made at the SEMZ-11X well located 10 km west of Zarif field, the nearest producing field. The well was drilled to a total depth of 5,700 ft and encountered 65 ft of oil pay in the Cretaceous sandstones of the Bahariya and Abu Roash G formations. Testing of the Bahariya resulted in a peak rate of 2,100 B/D with no water. Additional uphole pay exists in the Bahariya and Abu Roash G formations that can be added to the production stream in the future. Kosmos Announces Oil at Winterfell Well Dallas-based E&P independent Kosmos Energy announced on 19 January an oil discovery in deepwater US Gulf of Mexico. The Winterfell discovery well, the product of infrastructure-led exploration (ILX), was drilled to a total depth of approximately 23,000 ft and is located in approximately 5,300 ft of water. This subsalt Upper Miocene prospect in off-shore Louisiana encountered approximately 85 ft of net oil pay in two intervals. ILX exploration, which has featured prominently in upstream operators’ portfolios in recent years of relatively low oil prices, is exploration around producing hubs that can be hooked up to those facilities easily and cheaply. The development sidesteps the need for costly and time-consuming individual hub construction. Equinor Gets Permit To Drill North Sea Wildcat Well The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has granted Equinor a drilling permit for wildcat well 31/11-1 S in the North Sea offshore Norway, 62 km south of the Troll field. The drilling program is the first exploration well to be drilled in production license 785 S, awarded on 6 February 2015 (APA 2014). Operator Equinor and Total E&P Norge are 50/50 partners in the license, which consists of parts of Blocks 26/2 and 31/11. Petrobras, ExxonMobil Hit Hydrocarbons at Urissanê Well, Offshore Brazil Brazilian state-owned Petrobras announced on 29 January it had discovered hydrocarbons in a well located in the Campos Basin presalt off Brazil’s coast of Campos dos Gotyacaze in the State of Rio de Janeiro. Well 1-BRSA-1377-RJS (informally called Urissanê) is located in Block C-M-411, at a depth of 2950 m approximately 200 km offshore. Petrobras, which operates the block in a 50/50 partnership with Exxon Mobil, said it would analyze the well data to better target exploratory activities and assess the potential of the discovery. BP Offloads 20% Share of Oman’s Block 61 To PTTEP Marking another significant step in its divestment program, BP will sell a 20% participating interest in Oman’s 3950 km2 Block 61 in central Oman to Thailand’s national PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP) for $2.59 billion. BP will remain operator of the block, holding a 40% interest.‎ The sale comprises $2.45 billion payable on completion and $140 million payable contingent on preagreed conditions.‎ After the sale, BP will hold 40% interest in Block 61, while OQ holds 30%, PTTEP ‎20%, and ‎Petronas 10%.‎ Block 61 contains the largest tight gas development in the Middle East.

The relevance of determining the theoretical and methodological determinants of the Robert von Moll’s concept of the social state is due to the need to determine the patterns of evolution of ideas about the state and law, as well as the need to assess the ability to use the potential of the Robert von Moll’s theoretical and legal heritage, his predecessors and contemporaries to identify the optimal model of the social state. Modern Russia attempts to build such state. The proclamation and consolidation of Russia as a social state governed by the rule of law at the constitutional level requires attention both to the experiments carried out in social and legal development, and to the practices of social reform, and also to those ideas that have not yet been embodied. The ideas of European scholars regarding the evolution of the state-legal organization of society in the early modern period, based on which Robert von Mohl (1799–1875) developed original concepts of a social state and a state governed by the rule of law are discussed in the article. An analysis of the state of European political and legal thought and identification of the factors that have a significant impact on the development of Robert von Mohl’s doctrine of a social state governed by the rule of law are the purposes of the scientific article. The methodological basis of the study was the dialectical-materialistic, general scientific (historical, systemic) and special (historical-legal, comparativelegal) methods of legal research. The method of reconstruction and interpretation of legal ideas had great importance. As a result of the study, it was concluded that in the first half of the 19th century in European political and legal thought various approaches was formed to consider the problems of social protection and how to resolve them. The development trend of European political science became the transition from ideas and principles formed in the conditions of police states and enlightened absolutism to the ideas of a state governed by the rule of law (constitutional) that protects the rights and freedoms of a citizen. At the same time, it was a question of the rights and freedoms of only a part of the population: the proletariat growing in number and significance was not always evaluated as an independent social stratum. The axiological principles of state justification have also changed. Rights and utility principle became dominant principles. In the first half of the 19th century the social issue as an independent scientific problem of the European political and legal thought was not posed and not systematically developed. Questions about the social essence of the state, the specifics of the implementation of the state social function, the features of public administration in the new stage of socio-economic development of society predetermined the emergence of the idea of a social state. This idea was comprehensively characterized in the Robert von Mohl’s works. He went down in the history of political and legal thought as founder of the concepts of social and governed by the rule of law state.

Abstract:
This article will explore the phenomenon of highway-robbery in the context of the Trabzon-Bayezid road during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Ottoman Empire initiated a broad-scale road reform in the 19th century. One of the major goals of this reform was to make provinces accessible to the imperial center and increase the state’s authority by unifying the imperial geography. This article will argue that the existence of better roads not only increased the Ottoman state’s ability to control its territories, but also that of the highway-robbers to challenge the state’s authority. In response, the central government experimented with a variety of ways in order to fight against highway-robbery: introducing an insurance policy for postal services, increasing the sedentary population in the region, building more khans and police stations along the road, extending the right to carry guns to the general populace, and employing watchmen and gendarmeries along the road. Ironically, these policies in particular, and a better road network in general, did not lead to increased levels of security in the region but to its further militarization.
