AbstractThe present investigation emphasized the understanding of the mechanical behavior and progressive failure modes of Kevlar/epoxy-reinforced laminated composites subjected to a three-point bend test at liquid nitrogen (LN2) temperature (77 K). The tests were conducted on the woven fabric laminates with different loading speeds and characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The effect of LN2 temperature on the interlaminar shear strength (ILSS) of Kevlar/epoxy composites with various loading speeds was observed. The results indicate that the values of ILSS were increased at higher crosshead speeds compared to ambient temperature. The fibrillation progression and matrix failure (riverline marking) was observed by SEM. A change in crosshead speed may result in the variation of failure modes.

Abstract:
The fracture surface morphology of Fe76Ni2Si9B13 bulk amorphous alloys failed in compression at temperatures from 4.2 to 300 K was investigated. The samples were prepared by the explosive compaction technique from amorphous powder. It has been found that fracture stress decreases with temperature from 300 to 4.2 K. In this temperature range, the brittle failure prevails. The failure propagates across particles and along particle boundaries too. The fracture micromorphology is riverlike pattern with fine dimples.

Abstract:
The investigations of the failure characteristics of Fe76Ni2Si9B13 bulk amorphous alloys prepared by shock wave consolidation of powders were performed. The strength decreased with the lowering temperature from 300 to 4.2 K. For this temperature interval, the brittle failure prevails. The failure propagates across particles as well as along particle boundaries. The riverlike pattern with fine dimples was observed on the fracture surface. The apparent surface energy and the fracture toughness values estimated by means of the fractography were similar to these for typical brittle materials.

However CM has not been successfully controlled in this region. The results of this study may help to explain the lack of effective biological control of CM in Riverland citrus.

By corresponding to human social activities, I chose to work on the observation, reasoning, and creation in the museum of fine arts, tourist attractions, as well as ties (hidden waterway and the city of subway cars) between these two; the city of subway cars was an alternative lifestyle I had found while I was working on the observation of bedroom town at first, and although people no longer think of the waterway underneath the city, but life on the river was like an ongoing noise in the empty corridor. The Living pattern in this place was like a densely packed crowd in a corridor, which never stopped. The occupied river course began to intrude on our living space. Short journeys, river tracking, jogging, etc. with strangers, compared to sports events, are seemingly long and slow, but they are also exercises most likely affected by the ever-changing surrounding environment. Exercises of this type extend awareness for the environment and public space, which in turn promote the writing about the city of subway cars that continues to whirl to the depth of the river bottom. The city of subway cars is a surreal fiction written using the contemporary art approach. From the “Mutual Tour” at first, I squeezed myself into the crowd of strangers and pulled out every individual every now and then. In the “Minsheng Village and People’s Livelihood Village”, three roles are emphasized, my roommate, the engineer, and I. The fantasy diary, concept painting, diary updated through social networking, and the sculpture of cooperation are blended. The “relationships” written in the novel are not entirely about the author, but a space saved to turn the unexpectedly generated resonance into a continuous writing process. Deeply influenced by the artistic and literary field of the 1930s and 1960s, I began taking another approach to dig history, the emotional writing and rational integration. The works developed with it as the background are narratives, hidden in them are the ghosts and goblins blended in as immigrants, naturalness, and modernity. With the night turned into day and out in force, it was Taipei in the year 2015.

Dowling, Peter J. "Violent epidemics : disease, conflict and Aboriginal population collapse as a result of European contact in the Riverland of South Australia." Master's thesis, 1990. http://hdl.handle.net/1885/114505.

Full text
Abstract:
Many researchers have recognized the value of investigating the history of race contact in Australia, but too few have sought to explain in detail why the Aboriginal population declined so much and so rapidly when colonization advanced across the continent. The central aim of this thesis is to identify and assess the impact of the major causes of Aboriginal population collapse in the Riverland (Murray River) region of South Australia. It is estimated that prior to 1800 the population density of the Riverland was between 0.3 and 0.5 km^ per person with a total population for the region of around 3000. In 1881 the South Australian State Census enumerated just 14 Aboriginal people for the Riverland region. The population collapse has been viewed in two stages. The first has been termed pathological contact and is considered to be the major cause of the collapse. Introduced venereal syphilis, gonorrhoea and smallpox spread ahead of the major European frontiers of South Australia causing extreme mortality among the Riverland Aborigines. The second stage began after European settlement of South Australia. Violent clashes were quick to erupt on the overland cattle route which linked the settlement of Adelaide with the Eastern settlements. The combined effect resulted in an increase in the mortality rate, a decrease in the fertility rate and social and economic disruption. The population was unable to recover.

Full text
Abstract:
Understanding the micromechanisms of hydrogen-assisted fracture in multiphase metals is of great scientific and engineering importance. By using a combination of scanning electron microscopy (SEM), scanning tunneling microscopy (STM), atomic force microscopy (AFM) and magnetic force microscopy (MFM), the micromorphology of fracture surface and microcrack formation in hydrogen-precharged super duplex stainless steel 2507 are characterized from microscale to nanoscale. The results reveal that the fracture surfaces consist of quasi-brittle facets with riverlike patterns at the microscale, which exhibit rough irregular patterns or remarkable quasi-periodic corrugation patterns at the nanoscale that can be correlated with highly localized plastic deformation. The microcracks preferentially initiate and propagate in ferrite phase and are stopped or deflected by the boundaries of the austenite phase. The hydrogen-assisted cracking mechanisms in super duplex stainless steel are discussed according to the experimental results and hydrogen-enhanced localized plasticity theory.
