This is basically a piece of descriptive research on how the German
Democratic Republic (GDR) Regim, introduced and spread four communist
rituals: the Namensweihe (the welcoming of a baby to society), the
Jugendweihe (the union of two people before the society in order to
start a new family -basic cell of the society) and the funeral rites
(the farewell -passing away- of somebody of the community).
The present research shows how the presence of those communist rituals
imply -depending on the historical events- a confrontation with the
institution which, so far, had monopolized (until the birth of the GDR)
the rituals and, consequently, the vision of the world that everybody
had to have, share and transmit. The State used these rituals to
introduce their citizens to a completely new political, economical and
social system, also a cosmovision. In order to attain it, the Socialist
Party had to perform different missions: on the one hand , they had to
desligitimize any other cosmovision, that is, any other institution that
could pretend to have the real or the only sense of life. On the other
hand, it had to look for its own legitimate mechanisms. As far as this
latter idea is concerned, the Party could not ignore that the more
accepted and assumed a system of values and an institution is, the less
need does this institution have to use the power of coercitive force.

The current thesis explores the evolution on the views about the bear along Europe’s history and analyzes the most significant traditional festive representations around it in the Pyrenees: Festes de l’Ós in Arles de Tec, de Prats de Molló i de Sant Llorenç de Cerdans (Northern Catalonia), Ball de l’Óssa in Encamp (Andorra), Carnival in Bielsa (Aragon), Ituren and Zubieta (Basque Country). Bear dances are folkloric theater plays belonging to the so-called “spoken dances”, that is, versified. They are profane, fun and burlesque, placed in the festive cycle of the “winter masquerades”, typical to the Pyrenees, the Alps, the Carpathians and other rural areas in Europe. Their most significant representations take part around New Years’ Eve, Candlemas or the end of Carnival. They generally take the form of a passacaglia starting in the town’s outskirts and ending up at its main square. They essentially portray a fight between man and bear – an elaborated representation from the Gipsy bear tamer – supported by heroic narratives of a bear hunt, contributing to the myth of the wild and its need for civilization. Dances are spectacular for there are different masked groups making noise and chasing the audience, basically female. They end up being representations of the bear’s own awakening and death, full of ritual meanings, used as a means of satire and cutting review of last year’s highlights.

In the first case it is a politico-religious organization that opposes maya control of political parties and the state of Quintana Roo and the second, from agglutination of communities that formed a political - environmental front to challenge the construction of hydroelectric plants by Norwegian capital in their territories.

Full textKojpk pääjtïn: the encounter with the roots, is an ayuujk ethnography studying the Mixe ritual, focusing on how it is lived in the town of Santa María Tlahuitoltepec, Oaxaca, Mexico. Nine years of living with its inhabitants lead me to write this ethnography that also addresses the notion of person, perception and conception of the world, mythology, shamanism, and the notion of force needed to deal with everyday life. All these issues are traversed by beings (human and extrahuman) composing the Mixe society and the relations between them given to an existing nomos that legitimates a shared cosmos. Kojpk pääjtïn: the encounter with the roots, is an exercise, a dialogue with the ayuujk that tries to explain through ethnography and analysis, what is the meaning of "being in the world" for the mixes of Tlahuitoltepec. One reflection among many given for what this people wanted to share with me about their universe and the nature of their existence.
