Abstract:
This current paper offers a review of some of the early rap studies and discusses some of the more recent rap investigations that have been dominated by negative effects investigations. It argues that the suspicion of negative effects and stereotyping of African Americans have driven support for censorship of this musical genre. Although psychologists and lay critics have focused on the potential negative effects of rap music, the current chapter provides evidence that the effects are not all negative and that rap music audiences may use their culture and “agency” to empower themselves.

Abstract:
This chapter explores why Latin American countries have endorsed, or objected to, the principle of the responsibility to protect. Through an exploration of the various positions held by Latin American (LA) countries in international discussions on R2P the chapter aims to account for the role that the region has played in efforts to develop and consolidate the R2P norm. It finds that those countries that experienced mass atrocities have been more willing to accept R2P. Assessments of the relative costs and benefits of a multilateral solution to atrocity crimes have been influenced by the countries’ own record of massive human rights violations and democratization process. The chapter also situates current R2P discourse and practice in a context of regional contestation over human rights and rampant criminal homicidal violence. It concludes that in such a context the capacity of LA countries to engage normatively with R2P will most likely wane.

Abstract:
Reluctant for its first two decades to consider states’ human rights performance, the UN gradually developed an extensive network of machinery to examine human rights violations in some states and categories of violation in all states. Action was limited to investigation and condemnation. The overwhelming majority of states and commentators rejected the notion of ‘humanitarian intervention’ that had had some currency until the UN Charter’s proscription of the use of force by states. It took the UN sixty years to accept that the Security Council could and should take necessary coercive measures, including armed force, to confront the most extreme forms of human rights violation or atrocity such as genocide, ethnic cleansing, war crimes, and crimes against humanity. In doing so, it sanctified a new doctrine and codified its scope. Political and material realities seem to require sober expectations about the UN’s actual ability to protect populations from these atrocities.

Santos Júnior, Valdeci dos. A pré-história do Rio Grande do Norte. Brazil Publishing, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.31012/978-65-87836-92-8.

Abstract:
This work is a compilation of twelve archaeological articles published in the last fifteen years dealing specifically with aspects related to the Prehistory of the State of Rio Grande do Norte, involving study topics related to cultural remains left by past societies, with approaches on landscape archeology , lithic remains, rock art, dating and cemetery site. It fills a gap in the bibliography on Prehistory in Rio Grande do Sul for high school students, undergraduate courses in History, undergraduate courses in Archeology and the general public. The articles bring together authors with research aimed at different areas of archaeological knowledge, in a diversification that helps to understand the spatial dispersion of human occupations that are farther back in time and the typology of cultural traces left by human groups that occupied temporarily or permanently, the current North Rio Grande do Sul geographical space. The objective was to enable the reader to have a broader view on the diversity of views that encompasses the most recent archaeological research, allowing to understand the processes of human occupations in the Prehistory of Rio Grande do Norte.

Abstract:
In March 2011, for the first time in its history, the responsibility to protect (R2P) principle was invoked by the UN Security Council while imposing coercive military measures against a UN Member State without its consent. However, neither the ferocity of the subsequent diplomatic debate around R2P, nor the intensity of the current crisis in post-Gadhafi Libya, should distract us from the fact that Resolutions 1970 and 1973 constituted an appropriate response to a complex mass atrocity situation. The problem was in the disputed implementation of the civilian protection mandate. This chapter argues that when prevention fails, most future R2P cases needing coercive responses, including military force, will continue to require both coercion and consent, with legal authorization of the Security Council and active dialogue about how a state can best uphold its responsibility to protect and how the international community can both assist and compel them to do so.

ABC No Rio is a long-running cultural institution on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. It is a nonprofit corporation under New York State law. It was founded and run on radical democratic principles, and its current director is an erstwhile anarchist organizer. A metal plaque out front states that it is dedicated to the “culture of resistance.” So is it an anarchist space? At the very least, ABC No Rio has an anarchist past. This chapter lays out some histories of the project, how it evolved through art and politics, and its present position in the midst of a major capital project to construct a new center on the site of the old....

Abstract:
The responsibility to protect is central to the current policy debate on humanitarian intervention in war zones, and so it is instructive to explore its immediate post-Cold War origins in the decade preceding the December 2001 release of the report by the International Commission on Intervention and State Sovereignty. The history of the turbulent decade of the 1990s is essential to understanding the normative and policy problems that the Commission was trying to resolve as well as the remaining contestation that surrounds coming to the rescue of civilians caught in the throes of war. This chapter provides a sense of the practical and political problems that animated the development of R2P along with the distance yet to be covered to make mass atrocities an unpleasant memory instead of an ugly and continuing current reality.

Abstract:
Radical prostatectomy (RP) is the gold standard surgical treatment for patients with clinically localized prostate cancer and life expectancy more than 10 years. In the last decades, the desire to reduce the invasiveness of traditional retropubic RP has produced an increasing interest towards laparoscopic techniques, but acceptance was limited primarily because of the steep learning curve. Conversely, robot-assisted laparoscopic RP (RARP) had a rapid and wide diffusion in the world. Surgical technique for RARP is currently very well standardized and reported in the literature. According to the available data, the procedure can be performed routinely with a relatively small risk of complications and excellent functional outcomes. Clinical patient characteristics, surgical experience and technique, and cancer characteristics may affect the risk of complications as well as continence and potency recovery.

Abstract:
This book has shown how migration, citizenship, and identity—entangled in the tensions between agency and structure—converge in the rap music of Cape Verdeans in Portugal. It has explored how Kriolu rappers and Cape Verdeans have struggled with Manichean ways of viewing the world and categorizing its people, as seen in the repeated tension between Kriolu and tuga, between diasporic migrants and cultural nationalists. The book ends with a set of theoretical conclusions and policy deliverables that bring together anthropological concepts and life experiences of Kriolu. It argues that the distinction of migrancy must be taken into consideration in the current debates on citizenship. It describes Kriolu as a Creole citizenship inside Portugal, as opposed to “Portuguese” or Portuguese iterations of interculturality. It also challenges the current ideas of “Portuguese citizenship” and instead calls for “citizenship in Portugal,” as articulated by Kriolu rappers and advocates of Kriolu identity politics. This would make Portugal a vibrant place of Creole citizenship, where trajectories of language, labor, and exchange intersect.

Abstract:
This chapter integrates research on advice interactions, motivations for advising, and the psychological consequences of serving in an advisor role to develop a more comprehensive perspective on the psychology of advising. By connecting this work, which spans various methodologies and theoretical foundations, it advances current thinking on advice giving in two primary ways. First, in examining the diversity of motivations for advice giving, it extends the set of advice-exchange outcomes to be considered beyond those previously emphasized. Second, it highlights previously unexplored aspects of the advisor role that are likely to impact the advice-giving experience. The chapter concludes by providing recommendations for advisors and identifying areas ripe for future research to illuminate the advisor side of the advice-exchange process.
