Abstract:
In the current manufacturing environment, characterized by diverse change sources (e.g. economical, technological, political, social) and integrated supply chains, success demands close cooperation and coordination between stakeholders and agility. Tools and systems based on software agents, intelligent products and virtual enterprises have been developed to achieve such demands but either because of: (i) focus on a single application; (ii) focus on a single product; (iii) separation between the product and its information; or (iv) focus on a single system characteristic (e.g. hardware, software, architecture, requirements) their use has been limited to trial or academic scenarios. In this thesis a reusable distributed manufacturing monitoring system for harsh environments, capable of addressing traceability and controllability requirements within stakeholders and across high cost and complexity supply chains is presented.

Abstract:
In the food sector, the use of RFID makes it possible to improve the safety of food while ensuring better traceability and better monitoring of products. The work of the thesis was mainly carried out within the framework of a project in cooperation with several academic and industrial partners in the cheese sector where the main objective of the project is to develop UHF RFID tags adapted to the constraints of food products by ensuring a dual function: a traceability function with unitary identification, and then a sensing function of cheese maturation by indirect measurement of its electromagnetic and physicochemical properties. The first step of the project was the characterization of the electromagnetic parameters of food products during ripening in order to achieve an appropriate design of the tag antenna. Knowledge of these properties is essential to meet industrial requirements and to integrate systems in right conditions. Also, a correlation study is carried out between the variation of the dielectric properties and that of the chemical properties during the period of cheese ripening. This study helps to understand the difference between cheese types and allows determining the main parameters to follow during cheese maturation for the design of the sensor tag.The second step was the design of identification tags for the traceability of food products during the manufacturing process. The primary objective is to create a UHF RFID tag with a performance that meets the needs of manufacturers in the cheese sector regarding the size, memory and reading distance while respecting the health standards at the packaging level as well as the substrate used. Several UHF RFID tag configurations were realized and tested in an industrial environment where the results obtained show the effectiveness of using an RFID system to automate the traceability of products in the cheese sector. The third step is the design of sensor tags to track the degree of maturation of products during the ripening period. A first solution, based on the exploitation of the effect of variation of the dielectric properties on the tag reading distance, shows a lack of performance due to the small variations as well as the difficulties of measurement in a real environment. A second solution based on the analysis of gas evolution rate shows the possibility of estimating the degree of cheese maturation. However, the sensor activation power and the high cost represent significant challenges and thus it was difficult to adopt this solution. Finally, two alternative solutions to measure the effect of gas evolution were presented. The idea is based on monitoring other parameters varying due to the increase of gas release during cheese maturation. The first sensor tag configuration traces the variation of product dimension due to maturation using a resistive sensor. On the other hand, the second sensor tag configuration measures the change of pressure inside the product packaging due to gas production. The results obtained show that these two sensor RFID tag configurations can offer simple and practical solutions for controlling the cheese ripening process

In this thesis, the feasibility of deploying RFID technologies in the case of &ldquo
lowvolume high-value&rdquo
products is considered by focusing on the production processes of a real company. First, the processes of the company are examined and associated problems are determined. Accordingly, a simulation of the current situation is constructed by using the discrete event simulation technique, in order to obtain an accurate model. In addition to modeling the current situation, this simulation model provides a flexible platform to analyze different scenarios and their effects on the company production. Next, various scenarios including RFID technology deployment are examined, and their results are compared with respect to profitanalysis which takes into consideration the changes in the production, work in process (WIP) inventory, stockouts, transportation and initial investment. Finally, the analysis of the results and conclusions are given in order to provide guidance for companies with &ldquo

Abstract:
A solution for the automation of inventory taking and location of prod-ucts in a store or warehouse is presented. Radio Frequency Identifica-tion (RFID), an automatic identification technology, and mobile robotics are combined in the design of an inventory robot. The navigation of the robot is commanded by an algorithm that takes as input the progress of new identifications. Such algorithm is essential for the robot to deliver an accuracy higher than 99% and for an optimal inventory duration. An interface for the interaction with the robot and a set of procedures for its operation are implemented. The location of items is implemented using two different approaches. The first approach applies clustering to streams of identifications and assigns the known location of a reference item to all the members of a cluster. The second approach applies Bayesian Re-cursive Estimation after the computation of an identification model. A methodology for the assessment is proposed and the data set generated for the analysis shared openly. Inventory accuracy and location are as-sessed in real scenarios. The proposed solution is demonstrated valuable and ready for the market.

Abstract:
Counterfeit products, particularly pharmaceuticals, electronic devices, and apparels, are widespread. They threaten consumer safety and cause huge economic losses to licit supply chain partners and governments. Although a number of traditional anti-counterfeiting technologies, such as holograms and chemical tags, are available to combat counterfeiting, they are vulnerable to imitation or being reused. Besides, these technologies are intended to protect individual items, rather than to safeguard an entire supply chain. As such, fake products may likely be injected into the supply chain to hurt end-consumers. Track-and-trace technology based on Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) has recently emerged as a promising tool to combat counterfeiting, because of its automatic and non-line-of-sight capability to identify massive product items. By maintaining an electronic pedigree (e-pedigree) that records the transaction information of product items along the supply chain, this approach stands out for protecting the supply chain against infiltration, eliminating theft and fraud, facilitating recall of defective products, and supporting remote authentication. However, a number of technical and critical issues have yet to be solved for practical implementation of RFID-based track-and-trace anti-counterfeiting. These include generation of accurate initial product e-pedigree in fast moving manufacturing lines, precise e-pedigree updating in batch product distributing and receiving, and fast e- pedigree queries for remote and real-time product authentication from end-customers. Without fully addressing these issues, the accumulated product e-pedigree data would be untrustworthy, rendering any subsequent operations of track-and-trace and product authentication unreliable. This thesis investigates the crucial implementation issues in RFID-based track-and-trace anti-counterfeiting. It firstly presents an innovative track-and-trace anti-counterfeiting system, based on which a TDPS algorithm is proposed for generation of initial product e-pedigree in fast moving production lines. The TDPS overcomes many practical issues, such as tag writing error and tag locking failure, and helps identify the bottleneck of initial product e-pedigree generation. To tackle the bottleneck, the TDPS is further optimized by incorporating a block writing method to enhance the tag EPC writing efficiency and an integration method to balance the overhead of RFID equipment. In product distributing and receiving, a mechanized 3D scanning method is proposed to improve bulk item identification rate and enhance the accuracy and completeness of product e-pedigree. Indeed, RFID-based track-and-trace anti-counterfeiting mandates a relatively high bulk item identification rate for product authentication and e-pedigree updating. Experimental results demonstrate that the mechanized 3D scanning can achieve a bulk item reading rate of up to 98.9%, which largely outperforms the widely documented bulk reading rate (70%) in real applications. In retailing level, the efficiency of e-pedigree queries would hugely impact on customer shopping experience and the effectiveness of track-and-trace anti-counterfeiting. A partition-based method is therefore developed to cluster product e-pedigree data to improve the speed of e-pedigree queries. This approach partitions the accumulated e-pedigree data into fixed and dynamic groups, such that queries are conducted mainly on active data, rather than on the whole historical data sets. By addressing the above key issues, this thesis contributes to making implementation of RFID-based track-and-trace anti-counterfeiting practically viable and reliable.

Abstract:
This thesis is part of a collaboration between the company Tagsys and IM2NP, under the PACID-TEXTILE project. The aim of the thesis is to create a robust UHF RFID tag antenna that can be easily and discreetly integrated into textile products. The idea is to design two antennas electromagnetically coupled and adapted for selected chips. Both antennas are designed to facilitate the coupling between them. The first antenna is packaged in a robust material in order to protect the chip from laundry cycles. The second antenna is made up by electro-thread. The first part of the work is to characterize the packaged antenna and packaging material. The second part is to measure the conductivity of the used thread, to establish the most accurate model possible. Tests of wire resistance are also made. Toughness of each wire is also tested. The third part deals with the antenna design. The tags are designed to have a minimum range of 4m. They have to resist deformation and stacking. These tags are subjected to various tests to determine their performance. Using resources available in the laboratory IM2NP (RFID platform), a "Benchmarking " is carried on different tags to find the best that meet the requirements of the specifications

Abstract:
Innovation is increasing rapidly in every sector of the industry. This improvement and development are imperative to industries. Some are up-to-date, and others are improving. We are already witnessing the era of technology-dependent industry, where technology plays a key role in the manufacturing processes. Disruptive technologies are changing the way enterprises operate. It is essential for the industries which are focused on delivering fast and reliable service to the clients. As the technology and innovation are increasing, they could help the ceramic industry for the options presently available in interrelated technology, which are already impacting the industrial development in Industry 4.0 During previous industrialization eras there have been many improvements in different industrial sectors, which have led to rapid growth universally across industries. The present research included the review of approaches towards the ceramic traceability industry. This thesis presents a discussion on traceability of products in the ceramic industry by observing the production process. There are many stages of the production process where the materials and products are difficult to track, However, industries are concerned about the quantity and number of products produced that will meet the expectations at the end. It is challenging for the enterprises to manage, organize and trace the products throughout the manufacturing process, from raw material till final packaging. Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems are a common and useful tool in manufacturing, supply chain management, and retail inventory control. Optical barcodes, another universal automatic identification system, have been a familiar packaging feature on consumer items for years. Due to advances in silicon manufacturing technology, RFID costs have dropped significantly. Soon, low-cost RFID “electronic product codes” or “smart-labels” may be a practical replacement for optical barcodes on consumer items. Unfortunately, the universal deployment of RFID devices in consumer items may pose new security and privacy risks not present in closed manufacturing environments. This thesis presents an introduction to RFID technology, identifies several potential threats to security and privacy, and offers several practical proposals for efficient security mechanisms.

Currently, one of the main problems is that “time” is becoming more important, which will cause people to perform multiple tasks every day because of a hectic lifestyle, and with it the issue of lost articles. and poorly placed also increases significantly. Although there have been initiatives by some small companies to offer solutions characterized by the use of positioning technologies, these have not achieved the desired success. That is why, in this research, a scheme for the design, evaluation and implementation and marketing of a product with RFID technology with location and alert functions in the absence of proximity to solve the aforementioned problem has been proposed. The scheme and the product were validated through focus tools, surveys and scenario analysis. Likewise, the components of the business model of the scheme allow to reach the demand.

Since 2008, Brazil has been the largest beef exporter worldwide and also has had. The largest commercial beef herd in the world, which is around 205.3 million animals (IBGE, 2009). Remaining on the top of the ranking depends on technology implementations in the industry and a greater knowledge of the entire production process of beef cattle, mainly the identification of bottlenecks. The RFID technology, which is based on automatic transmission of data, has become a useful tool in various aspects of any productive sector. Throughout this technology one is able not only to track their products throughout the production process, but also do inventory control, logistics, quality control, with constant monitoring of temperature and moisture, which are essential for health y food, all done automatically in real time . The objective of this work was to analyze a solution for the control of traceability in the production process of a slaughter house using RFID technology. This monitoring can be accompanied from anywhere, and anytime because the RFID system uses the middleware that processes data read by the physical layer and provides them to various environments such as the Web. As a result to analyze has the confirmation of the feasibility of using RFID technology in such an unusual environment as the example of the production process in a slaughter house.

Abstract:
UHF RFID technology, also known as RAIN RFID, is a passive technology that enables the automatic identification of items. Thus, it bridges the gap between the physical and digital worlds by allowing an item to become alive on the Internet of things thanks to inexpensive and battery-free RFID tags. Passive UHF RFID technology has witnessed a significant development due to the accelerated growth of sophisticated technological devices. This development is largely driven by the supply chain and the retail industries. Passive UHF RFID Gen2, among other tracing and identification solutions, is the logical choice given the low costs of large-volume tags, ease of printing and being battery-free, the need for maintenance is completely eliminated. The main concern of resellers, the withdrawal of the product, is mainly affected by errors related to visibility (stock gap, theft, loss) and human errors. It is, therefore, necessary to improve visibility and automate the process. Despite its advantages, RFID deployment in supermarkets is still facing many obstacles and challenges. In this thesis, we focus on technological availability by defining and analyzing the different challenges and possibly proposing the appropriate solutions.First, the maximum reading distances of passive tags are evaluated in different environments in order to identify the factors impacting them. At the end of this study, an alternative characterization method is proposed to control tag performance and identify tagged objects with poor performance. Secondly, we will use this method to propose a new solution to improve detection. The algorithms behind this solution allow readers to negotiate their configurations with the environment and with each other. Finally, a new location algorithm is proposed to improve accuracy. This algorithm is based on the exploitation of the answers of the reliable tags of the medium. The proposed solutions are universal, compatible with market readers and add no cost to the hardware used for detection

Identification technologies such as Radio Frequency Identification RFID and barcode are used in traceability systems. RFID is a promising identification and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for traceability systems. It can be widely used on various products to control information from the beginning of the process until they reach the ultimate consumer. The objective of this study is to propose a method to evaluate identification technologies, especially RFID, in agro industrial chains and apply it to the beef cattle chain traceability systems. The research methodology used was a qualitative case study using interviews. The evaluation method provided a clear and wide view of the use of RFID in the cattle chain including importance and barriers. The results indicated some RFID advantages such as quickness in the traceability process, information accuracy, and more information stored in the tags among others. The RFID has some disadvantages such as: high costs; absence of international standard for labels; complex integration of this system; consumer privacy; and technical aspects such as broad band limitations for data transmission. In addition, the case studies revealed resistance against the use of RFID.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The Swedish Transportation Administration started an initiative to create a new e-infrastructure for the railroad sector in Sweden. The purpose is to follow the movement of railroad vehicles on the railway tracks and enhance logistics aspects of the transportation of goods by train. The Swedish initiative works as a pilot project for the railroad sector in the EU and if successful the e-infrastructure could be rolled out in the entire EU. It is a rare opportunity to be a part from the beginning of the creation of such a potential large scale e-infrastructure. The aim of this thesis is to provide advice early in the development process to aid in the success of the design and creation on the e-infrastructure. In the doing of this we will need to evaluate the areas: (1) the current state of the e-infrastructure, (2) the usefulness of the EPCGlobal standard for this e-infrastructure and (3) the usefulness on established e-infrastructures design principles. As a result of the thesis we have provided advice to enhance the design and implementation of the e-infrastructure, also advice is given on how to make the EPCGlobal standard’s more compatibility with the transportation sector. We have found the design principles by Hanseth & Lyytinen (2004) and Eriksson & Ågerfalk (2010) useful for the evaluation of the e-infrastructure. We also advocate that new design principles should be created to encompass the new concept of Internet of Things in e-infrastructures.

Abstract:
Radio Frequency IDentification allows quick and secure identification of objects. In mass customisation systems, RFID technologies can be peculiarly efficient, because they are able to support the complex flows of information which characterize these systems. In this study, we focus on RFID technologies effects on configuration to order (CTO) systems. We base the research on an existing case in order to obtain reliable information directly usable by decision makers. The rarity of studies offering quantitative, detailed and real case based measures makes the originality of this thesis.RFID technology implementation's effect is analysed by a discrete event simulation approach and is presented in two levels:The first level relates direct changes brought about by RFID (e.g. faster execution of the many checks due to the wide range of products, reduced workload for resources…). These changes have an impact on system's performance in terms of lead time, late orders' rate, etc.The second level is axed on deeper changes occurring due to the increased product visibility and the ease of collecting large amounts of data with an RFID technology. These changes mainly focus on the dynamic allocation of workload. Reconsidering of processes and proposing changes deeper than the simple direct technology impact is a breakthrough, in this study, because of the lack of publications highlighting this benefit adequately. In conclusion, RFID contribution in CTO systems and, extensively, in assembly to order systems may be undeniable. Moreover, beyond the direct technology impact, rethinking how the system works by exploiting the deeper potential of technology can increase profits

Abstract:
The object of this research was to investigate dispersion in surface phononic crystals (PnCs) for application to a newly developed passive surface acoustic wave (SAW) ozone sensor. Frequency band gaps and slow sound already have been reported for PnC lattice structures. Such engineered structures are often advertised to reduce loss, increase sensitivity, and reduce device size. However, these advances have not yet been realized in the context of surface acoustic wave sensors. In early work, we computed SAW dispersion in patterned surface structures and we confirmed that our finite element computations of SAW dispersion in thin films and in one dimensional surface PnC structures agree with experimental results obtained by laser probe techniques. We analyzed the computations to guide device design in terms of sensitivity and joint spectral operating point. Next we conducted simulations and experiments to determine sensitivity and limit of detection for more conventional dispersive SAW devices and PnC sensors. Finally, we conducted extensive ozone detection trials on passive reflection mode SAW devices, using distinct components of the time dispersed response to compensate for the effect of temperature. The experimental work revealed that the devices may be used for dosimetry applications over periods of several days.

Abstract:
The thesis is conducted under the ANR project PRODIGE and it is focused on seeking strategies allowing the optimization of transport in general and road freight transport in particular. The transportation problem support for this study is the pickup and delivery problem with transshipment. This problem generalizes several classical transportation problems.Transshipment is used as optimization and flexibility leverage. To study and solve this problem, analyzes are performed along three axes :the first objective concerns the development of an analytical model, more accurately a mathematical model with mixed variables. This model allows providing optimal solution to the decision maker, but has the disadvantage of requiring a time resolution that grows exponentially with the size of the problem. This limitation is overcome by the second line of the study that solves the transportation problem studied by an approximate optimization method while ensuring satisfactory solutions. The method used is a mataheuristic broadly followed the variables neighborhoods research principles. In the third objective, the overall results obtained in the thesis are tested in real transport situation via the PRODIGE project

Abstract:

The current research was intended to study consumers’ attitudes towards RFID privacy issues. One of the objectives was to test the theory of reasoned action (Feihbein and Anjze, 1978 ) based on consumers’ perception towards RFID embedded products. Since it was a quantitative study, a pilot test of the questionnaire was conducted using college students. Results indicated that very few respondents were familiar with the term of “RFID.” As a result, it was decided that 1) the sample should be drawn from college students. In this case, a sample of university college students of a private university in the northern part of Taiwan, who were employed during the day time and were students in the evening was gathered; and 2) during a class time when students were asked to respond to the questionnaire, a video showing what RFID was about was carried out. Instead of showing issues related to RFID privacy, a video emphasizing issues concerning the convenience of RFID was shown instead to a class of students by mistake. To be consistent, the same video was shown to all other classes of university college students, who were part of the sample as well. Major findings of the study based on 426 useful returns included the following:1.When and if consumers were aware of their personal consumption data were being collected by companies via RFID, respondents were more concerned about the security of a company’s database and the protection of their privacy; 2.There was a high correlation between the security of a company’s database and its right to use consumers’ personal data as well as consumers right to protect their own privacy data gathered via RFID; 3.Having viewed the video, respondents’ before and after purchasing intentions of RFID-based products were consistent with the theory of reasoned action, though in a different direction.

Currently RFID is being used in variety of industry for managing and controlling internal and external supply chain especially. Due to system setup costs or other reasons, only international enterprise and big size company have been using in internal/external supply chain and monitoring person/material. Some studies have been also made in RFID academically. Temperature logging RFID tag is costly compared to other RFID Tag. What cost-effective alternatives are there when we want to record temperature by RFID system ﹖ This research offers an alternative proposal that is cost-effective RFID with temperature-recording function . The investment in RFID tag is not as expensive as temperature logging RFID tag. We combine short-range, 13MHz passive RFID tag that has least cost of Tag with temperature sensor module as one module . This module can record variations of temperature in internal area. Finally, we make a comparison of the cost versus the benefit expected between this module and KSW VarioSen® Basic Label.

As technology advances, counterfeiting technology also become more powerful, even appraiser can’t verify the counterfeit product easily. The counterfeit products can be found everywhere, such as food, apparel, jewelry, medicine, and so on. It not only cause economic damage, moreover it cause life-threatening to people. The anti-counterfeiting using RFID have been researched for many years, and the portable devices with NFC have increased dramatically, making the future of RFID anti-counterfeiting is promising. Using NFC devices to verify products by reading RFID tags, that is not only protect the products to be counterfeited but also improve the efficiency of enterprise by combining with logistic chain. Besides, RFID anti-counterfeiting technology compares with other technologies, such as optical identification, biometrics, etc., RFID is more easy and fast to verify the products. RFID anti-counterfeiting identify the authenticity of the products electronically. And how it verify the authenticity of products, the first, RFID tags are attached to the products, and then read RFID tags by using RFID reader to catch the identification and verification message codes from RFID tags. Hence, using these message codes can authenticate the products. RFID anti-counterfeiting can effectively against from counterfeits, and also can protect the rights of customers and vendors. The purpose of this research mainly provides a consumer level anti-counterfeiting system with low-cost RFID tags, to establish a barrier wall against counterfeits for consumers and manufacturers.

Traceability is one of manners to maintain agriculture products’ quality in recent years. If we could introduce this concept into aero-fastener, we can assure its quality. This study takes J company which is going to manufacture aero-fastener for an example. On the basis of safety of aero-fastener, we need a complete traceability to fulfill its necessity, due to its strictness of materials, procedure of production, test and tracing. The radio frequency identification (RFID) has become a fast developed wireless communication technique in recent years. This research discusses how to apply this system into screws with ISO 9002 via the mutual connection of RFID and information system and integrates it into ERP system to plan a thorough “Screw Traceability System”. Furthermore, in Screw Traceability System, consumers can use the tracing code on boxes through the internet to trace back ID of each box of screws, including screw information of assembling, test, delivery, materials, and so that. The visible benefits are sparing time of pouring materials as coarse thread and produce, reduce the time of collecting screws information and lower the cost of stock; on the contrary, those invisibles contain lowering the risk of producing flaw in screws, heightening the material tracing efficiency, clarifying the responsibility about customer’s complain quickly, marketing the differentiation of brands, and expanding the horizon of using traceability. The traceability can prevent factory owners and customers from distrust and the sense of insecurity. It’s a good way to trust and benefit form each other.

This study applies the RFID and information transmission equipment for establishing a set of goods supply and assortment system, together with introducing the existing purchase, sales and inventory system in the auction market. The supplier delivers potted plants to the collecting station (or self-delivery to the flower auction market) together with assortment; the purchase statement is then handed to the operator for entering data into the “Original Supply System”. The system will send the purchase data to the designated flower auction market via internet and, at the same time, the Original Supply System will print out RFID Tags, which contain the flower purchase data, via the RFID barcode printer. The operating personnel will then stick the RFID Tags (the tags’ surface contains Code 128 barcode) to the holding plate and the truck will deliver the flowers to the auction market. After off-loading, the assorting personnel in the auction market will retrieve the data in the RFID Tags via a palm RFID Reader with non-touch sensor. The data is then transmitted into the “Server of market-end assortment system” via the wireless access point (AP) and compared with the flower purchase data uploaded by the original supplier. Through this system, accuracy of the supplier’s flower delivery can be effectively ascertained; such method can speed up the purchase and assortment operation in the flower auction market, as well as improve the accuracy of supply data. This will effectively increase the economic benefits of the flower auction market, and improve problems such as delayed operation rising from long collection time and late delivery of suppliers of the auction market.

While Taiwan’s accession to the World Trade Organization in 2002 had to improve the international competitiveness of Taiwan fruits and after government targeted exports to strategic, the results have been encouraging. According to Agricultural Statistics for 2011 of Council of Agriculture, the value of fruit category exports got greatest growth recently and the value of exports was 2,797,734 tonnes in 2011 Because Taiwan geography location, the agricultural products were trasported by cold chain logistics and Taiwan launched an official reform program for traditional industries in 2013 which will vigorously promote the preservation and traceability of the cold chain logistics during it. Most perishable food was delivered and trasported by cold chain logistics, although it adapated a complete environment monitoring, but it still got 5°C temperature difference with pratice in Taiwan[3][7] and it took 85% time of overall process within 3°C temperature range. It can be seen from the practice, there were some interferences from environmental factors. The purpose of this study is understands the interferences from environmental factors in practice process by RFID sencor tags with SQL then develops a predicte model of shelf life with back-propagation neural algorithm. In this study, it compares the performerce among difference train function as Steepest Descent Method, Steepest Descent Method with momentum and Levenberg-Marquardt (LM), then the Levenberg-Marquardt train function with relevant parameters get a best performerce in finale. RFID food traceability system could not only control production origins but understand their shelf life after cold chian logistic. It increased the added value of RFID traceability system if they can combine the results of this study.

RFID (Radio Frequency IDentification) techniques have been widely applied in lots of domains in real life. In RFID industry, how to quickly create innovative functions and applications becomes one of important issues. In addition, to identify customer needs is a crucial task for RFID products suppliers. Traditionally, RFID products manufacturers heavily depend on subjective opinions of design engenderers or the specifications of orders to recognize customer preferences. However, customer preferences shift frequently. RFID products manufacturers need a systematic and effective method not to only identify customer needs, but also to create innovative functions for satisfying requirements of different customer segmentations. Therefore, this study proposed a QT-Kano model which combines TRIZ (Theoria Resheneyva Isobretatelskehuh Zadach, Theory for Solving Inventive Problems), QFD (Quality Function Deployment) and Kano model to assist RFID manufacturers in creating innovative functions and categorizing customer needs. Besides, this study also employs refined Kano model to acquire advanced knowledge of customer preferences. Finally, 16 innovative RFID products functions are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed QT-Kano model.

RFID and handheld devices have become hot issues in recent years. The application and innovation of RFID have been regarded as one of the most important expanding technologies in the 21 century. The handheld devices can promote trading and competitiveness for an industry when they are combined with the latest wireless communication technology. This research designs a product surveillance system which integrates the RFID and handheld device. The store can do commerce fast and display the products while guests can trade and get commodity information on hand. The surveillance system reports the related information to personnel''s handheld device immediately whenever a burglary is detected. Besides, the proposed system can be applied to supervise property inventory. Based on the experimental results, an alarm signal can be transmitted to store and personnel''s handheld device in a short time (less than 10ms). Even for multiple objects burglary the detection signal is transmitted within 1s. Therefore, the proposed system is not only more effective in handling burglary than the shop owners themselves but also can accurately identify the types and quantities of burglary products. This verifies the feasibility of the RFID technology in designing the product surveillance system.

In recent years, 3C (Computer, Communication, and Consumer Electronics) product demand by customers has shown the tendency of diversification, and relatively, the sales marketing has also expanded multiply. However, the characteristics of 3C product are different from the general commodity, and the demand for after-sales service is more required. In fact in the highly competitive market and product differentiation, it becomes difficult to win in the supply chain only by depending on the price and the specification. How to let customers purchase reliable products and feel easy without worries after sales will gradually become the circumstance of striving to gain customers’ confidence. Nevertheless, on after-sale service, the enterprise mostly still maintained the traditional artificial written work, which causes many problems and inconvenience such as the difficulty for the management of product transaction tracking and tracing, costing more man power and time to control each record for goods inquiry, lacking the suitable diagnose tool, difficulty for service work control, and etc… In order to solve this dilemma on after-sale service of 3C industry, it certainly requires implementing a RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) application. The implementation of RFID system can combine material logistics flow and information flow to record life-span message of the products in detail to increase the visibility and enhance the value of supply chain system. At the same time, the rising and development of the large-scale 3C super center, which will lead to bigger show room, more commodity items, and more complicated working process, will therefore cause the management problem. Nowadays, we consider “Customer Orientation” as the management concept. How to apply and integrate RFID Technology with Sales and Return Service will be the very important subject, which deserves us to further discuss. Hence, this paper will research how RFID is implemented into goods return and after-sales service of 3C industry, and how the service time and work procedure will be improved. In order to constructively present RFID application benefits, we’ll take IDEF0 drawing as the tool to analyze the request and construction of RFID System function. Furthermore, through RFID technology and development of software system together with the combination of database to verify the present working model, the After-Sales Service System after implementing RFID will be compared with system before implementing RFID by using e-EPC process analysis. This way can help us understand the difference between “Before Implementation” and “After Implementation”, and the improvement results.

This research tries to assess if the magnetic read/write head devices conventionally used in the banking industry, particularly in the passbook system involving passbooks and passbook printers, can be replaced by an RFID system comprising RFID readers and RFID tags. A feasibility evaluation is performed using existing passbook printers, passbooks, RFID readers and RFID tags. This study also analyzes the pros and cons of the RFID read/write system by comparing its features, types, prices, functions, specifications, etc. with those of the magnetic read/write head system. Now that IC-based banking cards have superseded those based on magnetic stripes, and thanks to the RFID technology, the applications of EasyCards in Taiwan have moved beyond the Metro system to the banking and medical systems, it is further discussed in this study whether the successful operations of such smart cards will lead to a revolution of the traditional magnetic-read/write-head passbook system. Although the declining prices of HF RFID tags still cannot compete with those of magnetic stripes, the trend is indisputably moving from magnetic to RFID. However, total substitution is unattainable unless all passbook printer suppliers introduce the RFID technology into the existing hardware and software structures of passbook printers and all passbook suppliers provide passbooks integrated with RFID tags. In addition, total support from the government and the banking system is crucial to the successful transition between the two systems, and this support is what we are looking forward to after we come to the positive conclusions of this study.
