Abstract:
This is a courageous book. Published as the author's doctoral thesis, this work strives retrospectively to “determine the significance of age in the acquisition of a second language” (p. 26). It has explicit interdisciplinary ambitions to integrate concepts and practices from various disciplines in which bilingual development is studied: notably, sociocultural theory, developmental psychology, psycholinguistics, text linguistics, and pragmatics. These multifaceted theoretical aims are anchored in an equally broad empirical ground, drawing on various types of data. Not surprisingly, the result is a theoretically intriguing, yet methodologically puzzling, approach to the study of bilingualism and second language acquisition.

The authors of the article put forward a thesis about the need of modification or even revision of the way economic sciences (ES) are practiced in ontological, epistemo- logical and methodological aspects.2 It results from the impact of a series of factors that appeared even in the pre-pandemic period, for which COVID-19 may be a complementary, reinforcing circumstance, and even directly determining change. The structure of the article was subordinated to the adopted goal, which is the author's reference to the thesis. As an exemplification of the areas requiring change, eight issues were selected, for which a set of postulates constituting the desired modifications in conducting research in ES was submitted. The main method used in the study is the method of critical analysis of the literature.

Abstract:
This article draws on research conducted for the author's doctoral thesis. It presents the development of the Meeting Space Framework to address what is needed to engage in meaningful conversations about suicide, from the perspective of student nurses. An interpretive methodology of constructivist grounded theory was used, underpinned by the theoretical perspective of symbolic interactionism. The core category of Meeting Spaces resulted; engaging in meaningful conversations about suicide is co-created in illuminating space within the context of a human pivotal encounter (positive) as opposed to an unceremonious pivotal encounter (negative). A certain kind of space is required to support engagement in meaningful conversations about suicide. It requires humanness and an intention and ability to see the whole person beyond the limiting word of ‘suicide’.

‘Otto Weininger sent me his Geschlecht und Charakter, a terrific book that seems to solve the most difficult of all problems. He pronounces clearly what I only managed to utter. Voilà un homme!’ These words, from Strindberg's article ‘Idolatry, Gynolatry’ are meant as an homage to Otto Weininger (1880–1903) who was barely twenty-three years old when he committed suicide. Strindberg's article was published by the famous Vienna periodical Die Fackel which played an important part in defending and propagating Weininger and his book. Weininger's extraordinary and scandalous work, the full title of which is Geschlecht und Charakter. Eine prinzipielle Untersuchung (Sex and Character. A Fundamental Investigation; English edition – 1906) was published in June 1903. It was a revised version of his doctoral thesis presented at Vienna University in June 1902. Outstanding as the book is, it also posseses some disturbing features and it did not receive the welcome its author had expected. This poor reception, or rather the lack of any serious response, was an important factor in the author's suicide on 4 October 1903. The book became the subject of critical interest only after its author's death: suicide turned out to be a good advertisement.

Abstract:
This article investigates how the traditional attire and religious iconography of Cristóbal Balenciaga's (1895–1972) country of origin inspired his designs. The arguments presented here build on what has already been established on the subject, provide new data regarding the cultural context that informed the couturier's creative process (with which the Anglo-Saxon world is less familiar) and conclude by investigating the reasons and timing of his exploration of these fields. They suggest why this Spanish influence is present in his innovations in the 1950s and 1960s and go beyond clichéd interpretations of the ruffles of flamenco dress and bullfighters’ jackets. The findings derive from research for the author's doctoral thesis and her curatorial contribution to the exhibition Coal and Velvet. Balenciaga and Ortiz Echagüe. Abstract:
The central task for doctoral students, through the process of writing, feedback and revision, is to create a thesis that establishes their scholarly identity by situating themselves and their contribution within a field. This longitudinal study of two first-year doctoral students investigated the relationship between response to supervisor feedback on the thesis proposal and the development of scholarly identity (self-confidence, independence in research thinking, positioning the self in relation to others), through the lens of individual agency (self-assessing work, seeking and critically engaging with others’ feedback in order to clarify research thinking). Data consisted of semi-structured interviews conducted over 3 months, different drafts of the research proposal, and written supervisor comments on the drafts. Narrative analysis and open coding were used to produce in-depth portraits of the individual experiences and perceptions of each participant. There were differences between the two individuals in their growing scholarly identities as regards their agency. The degree of agency exhibited in engaging critically with feedback in relation to self-assessment, and clarifying research thinking appeared linked to the development of the student’s scholarly identity: her sense of confidence, scholarly independence in thinking, and positioning in relation to others. Such confidence and ownership in turn inspired greater agency. Interestingly, differences in the extent to which participants were agentive in relation to feedback appeared influenced by previous experiences with feedback. These results contribute a richer understanding of the relationship between use of supervisor feedback and growing scholarly independence.

This article represents a fragment of the author's doctoral dissertation Serbian Music at the Crossroads of the East and the West? On the Dialogue between the Traditional and the Modern in Serbian Music between the Two World Wars (the review of the thesis see on www.newsound.org.yu, issue No 24). The thesis (mentor: prof. Dr Mirjana Veselinovic-Hofman) was defended at the Faculty of Music, Belgrade, on January 2004. A revised text of the dissertation is forthcoming, in an edition of the Institute of Musicology of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts. The article describes the creative orientation of composers Miloje Milojevic, Petar Konjovic and Josip Slavenski as the key figures of the epoch, indicates their choices of an Eastern or Western orientation, and explains the antagonism between the poetics of the "Europeans" and the representatives of avant-garde trends. The topicality of the East-West dichotomy in the critical consciousness of the protagonist of this period is marked as one of the main and the most important dilemma of the polemical context of the Serbian art after the World War I. Conducted from standpoints "Pro et Contra Europe", East-West discussion was also the part of the debate of Serbian national art's development strategy in the new, modern epoch of its history.

LXX quotations in the Petrine and Pauline speeches in Acts. This article is an attempt to summarize the results of the author's doctoral thesis. Three aspects of the problem under investigation are discussed, i e the texthistorical, methodological and henneneutical aspects. The following became clear after analyzing the citations in the Petrine and Pauline speeches: (a) the reconstructed LXX Textvorlage which Luke has used, reflects a strong Semitic style; (b) some quotations were already used in pre-Lukan times, but seem to be checked and reinterpreted by Luke; (c) his use of Scripture functions on two levels: infonnative, focusing on the past with a strong christological trend, and nonnative, focusing on the present and future with an appealing nature for the current listeners/readers; and (d) Luke's understanding of Scripture fits in within his salvation history, presented from a Theo-centric perspective, pneumatological-prophetically mediated, and with emphasis on the eschatology, christology and soteriology.

Abstract:
This work results from a dissertation and presents the initial discussions for a doctoral thesis that has as its central axis the debate on the genesis of (auto)biographical research in education, giving importance to its transdisciplinary, affective and subjective characteristics. It is, therefore, a research that articulates the bibliographical perspective with some of the autobiographical narratives raised in different moments of the author's life.In these, I find the foundations of the argument of human individualities and childhood memories as conductors of an energy capable of giving meaning to choices inside and outside the academy. As preliminary results I identify: new meanings and looks at memories and experiences expressed by the articulation of the triad affectivity, subjectivity and transdisciplinarity, precipitates a) the glimpse of a more subtle and human way of expressing how we affect ourselves and b) the reflexive condition about ourselves , in a constant process of formation and expansion of our own inner borders until the perception of the deep affective relationship with nature that mobilizes new studies on the part of the researcher.

Abstract:
This year marks no less than the twenty-seventh anniversary of the first performance, on 19 March 1963, of Oh What a Lovely War by the Theatre Workshop company at Stratford East – a production which has been alternatively mythologized as the apogee of the company's achievement under Joan Littlewood, and, by fewer but influential critics (notably the late Ewan MacColl), as its nadir. Even those who saw the show after its transfer to Wyndham's Theatre on 20 June 1963 may, as Derek Paget here illustrates, have seen a production which differed significantly from the original: while those who did not see either version (even if they can be persuaded that the subsequent film bears little relation to either) have to rely on the text as published by Methuen. But this, as Paget demonstrates, provides only one. albeit the most accessible, of the several sources of textual documentation: and in this article, derived from the author's doctoral thesis for Manchester University, he draws on the recollections of actors and other theatre workers as well as on printed, manuscript, and source materials, to illuminate the creation and, arguably, the subsequent dilution of this collectively created indictment of war.

Abstract:
The objective of this article is to present a new methodology for solving the Homogeneous Vehicle Routing Problem with Simultaneous Pickups and Deliveries (VRPSPD). The methodology integrates a matheuristic using the Chu-Beasley genetic algorithm and mixed integer linear programming, based on the Branch-and-Bound procedure. The best configuration obtained from the genetic algorithm is improved through the use of constructive heuristic methods in determining sub-problems, which contribute to the creation of the initial population necessary in the stage of local improvement. The goal is to determine minimum-cost routes that satisfy the pick-up and delivery demands of a group of geographically dispersed customers, while considering the restrictions of the system and the number of vehicles required. The methodology is implemented in C++ and a solver CPLEX software is used to find the solution. Results from test instances in specialized literature demonstrate the efficiency of this new hybrid model, showing good results in short computation times. This article is based on the author's doctoral thesis in engineering and presents similar topics discussed in international congresses, which may explain the similarities in the consulted bibliographical references.

Abstract:
This summarizes the doctoral thesis “Belowground fungi are key sentinels in forest soils vulnerable to pentachlorophenol pollution: a mechanistic study in Quercus suber forests”. The PhD degree was awarded by ITQB NOVA in March 2018. It comprises a revision of the major issues, objectives, methodology and results, as well as a few possible recommendations for future work on bioremediation of halogenated aromatic pollutants. The working hypothesis of the thesis proposed that soils in Tunisian cork oak forests are likely contaminated with pentachlorophenol (PCP), a persistent organic pollutant (POP). This hypothesis is based on frequent reports of cork contamination with pentachloroanisole (PCA), which is likely formed through microbial conversion of PCP. Furthermore, PCP was considered a suitable model for investigating the role of soil mycobiota in pollution management due to its ability to travel long distances in the atmosphere, partition favourably into the soil layer, and moderate abiotic resistance, besides its life-threatening toxicity. Finally, fungi play a key role in colonizing soil in cork oak forests. These concepts have been applied in the "Preventive and remediation strategies for continuous elimination of polychlorinated phenols from forest soil" project (SfP-NATO 981674, 2006-2011). Overall the major findings of the study include the demonstration of the prevalence of PCP in the soils of Tunisian cork oak forests. Additionally, the study elucidated both the significance and impact of fungal activity in the mitigation and dispersion of PCP.

Abstract:
Stories are essential realities from our past and present. As the primary sources of data in narrative research, interview transcripts play an essential role in giving meaning to the personal stories of research participants. The pragmatic narratives found in transcripts represent human experience as it unfolds. Analyzing the narratives found in interview transcripts thus moves beyond providing descriptions and thematic developments as found in most qualitative studies. Crafting stories from interview transcripts involves a complex set of analytic processes. Building on the first author's personal experience in working on a doctoral thesis employing narrative inquiry, this article presents a multimethod restorying framework to narrative analysis. A step-by-step progression within the framework includes choosing interview participants, transcribing interviews, familiarizing oneself with the transcripts (elements of holistic-content reading), chronologically plotting (elements of the story), use of follow-up interviews as a way to collaborate (an important procedure in narrative inquiry), and developing the story through structural analysis. It is hoped that this article will encourage other researchers embarking on narrative analysis to become creative in presenting participants’ lived experiences through meaningful, collaborative strategies. This article demonstrates the fluidity of narrative analysis and emphasizes that there is no single procedure to be followed in attempting to create stories from interview transcripts.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore what an idiosyncratic and dynamic sense of belonging entails for consumption in a lifestyle sport, an ever shifting and progressing world in which individuals engage in community while also seeking to individuate their own sense of belonging. Design/methodology/approach The authors adopt an ethnographic approach in the context of a regional skateboarding community. Over a year at local skateparks, we interviewed 15 well-established, committed members of the community identified by others (through snowball techniques) to allow us to delve into the phenomenon. These interviews were conducted as part of the primary author's doctoral thesis (See Harris, 2011). Findings An idiosyncratic and dynamic sense of belonging is prevalent in the lifestyle sport community, even among well-established members. This is reflected in and motivated by a variety of consumption, as well as overconsumption practices. Practical implications Understanding the idiosyncratic and dynamic nature of a sense of belonging allows marketers to design offerings to effectively deal with the ambiguities of belonging but also raises the potential for the destructive use of marketing. Originality/value The authors demonstrate how approaching belonging through a dynamic and idiosyncratic sense of belonging provides a deeper understanding of belonging and related consumption activities in a lifestyle sport.

Abstract:
§1. Introduction. In this report we wish to describe recent work on a class of first order theories first introduced by Shelah in [32], the simple theories. Major progress was made in the first author's doctoral thesis [17]. We will give a survey of this, as well as further works by the authors and others. The class of simple theories includes stable theories, but also many more, such as the theory of the random graph. Moreover, many of the theories of particular algebraic structures which have been studied recently (pseudofinite fields, algebraically closed fields with a generic automorphism, smoothly approximable structures) turn out to be simple. The interest is basically that a large amount of the machinery of stability theory, invented by Shelah, is valid in the broader class of simple theories. Stable theories will be defined formally in the next section. An exhaustive study of them is carried out in [33]. Without trying to read Shelah's mind, we feel comfortable in saying that the importance of stability for Shelah lay partly in the fact that an unstable theory T has 2λ many models in any cardinal λ ≥ ω1 + |T| (proved by Shelah). (Note that for λ ≥ |T| 2λ is the maximum possible number of models of cardinality λ.)

Abstract:
This research, led by the IHCIT in collaboration with the ADAPTARC project of SERNA/UNDP, forms a crucial part of the author's doctoral and master's thesis. Focusing on the Rio Chiquito sub-basin in Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras, it aims to offer a preliminary insight into the dynamics of the isophreatic curves as a technical tool for decision-makers. Despite its relatively small size, this sub-basin features a dramatic elevation change, ranging from 950 - 2200 meters above sea level over a 21km river length and with 30% urbanization. The study involved meticulous information management of over 100 wells, primarily used for human consumption, highlighting the community's dependence on groundwater. Given the intermittent and insufficient municipal water supply, this was especially critical, emphasizing groundwater's role in meeting basic needs and public health. The findings reveal underground water levels varying between 5 to 20 meters on average, with peaks up to 60 meters in the subbasin's lower western area. This underground flow aligns with the sub-basin geomorphology and surface dynamics, showing a gradient from 950 to 1200 meters in the middle-lower part, ascending to 2200 meters in the middle-upper region. Abstract:
Publishers' blurbs for new books are often de trop. Those accompanying David Bentley Hart's opus, however, are surprising in the array of notable names that have acclaimed him, even in the pre-production phase. One of the famed maintains that with this first book Bentley Hart has emerged as the ‘best living American systematic theologian’, and another of the great and good hails him as: ‘one of his generation's leading theologians’. No small potatoes this, considering the first book in question is the revision of a doctoral thesis of a young man who has yet to start a university career. It seems, moreover, to have been two theses rolled into one. Having read the book, one understands why the accolades were so heart-felt. It is indeed a most learned, profound and immensely rich volume. It is undoubtedly one of the most important and timely works of theology written for many decades past, and will prove itself to be so, I suspect, despite its (many) eccentricities and idiosyncratic judgements, and despite its failure to say many things one might have wanted it to: but then at 448 pages, one needs to draw a line somewhere.

Abstract:
This article is part of a doctoral thesis in development whose empirical research motivated the construction and preparation of a bibliographic survey about the category of habitus in Bourdieusian theory, with the aim of building a reflection on the relationship between the meaning of habitus in Bourdieu (1980), in the specific field of work, and illness from the process of productive restructuring, recovering old paradigms that condition the contemporary reality. It starts from the understanding that work is the element that clarifies the social mediations necessary to apprehend the history of society, and, therefore, it is not a field that is excluded from Bourdieu's conceptual universe, but constitutes it in the proportion in which it integrates and influences the habitus of social agents. In this sense, we problematize the author's contributions, relating them to the discussions carried out by the sociology of work, valuing those concerning the ideopolitical determinations of the "new neoliberal reason" for the phenomenon of social precariousness of work and the consequences for the subjectivity and illness of workers. In this sense, it is understood that the multi-causal nexus between the habitus of social precarization of work and the process of psychological suffering remains in the social invisibility, either because of the political intentionality, or because of the automated and immediatist rationality present in our society.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to give an account of the methods used for the author's project-based doctoral thesis, Hatred and History. The methodology is offered not as an exemplar, but rather as a case study of an integrated approach where exegesis and creative work are conceived as intertwining explorations of the same research materials. Design/methodology/approach – Hatred and History creatively explores the idea that science and intuition frame our experience of the world in distinct ways, and is expressed across an audio production and a written exegesis. The dyad of scientific and intuitive knowledge is embedded deeply within the production, from the initial choice of subject through the structuring and writing of the script to the techniques employed to write the music. This paper traces the transformation of the dyad from academic construct to creative construct, and should therefore be considered a statement of poetics. Findings – The creative exploration of science and intuition encouraged me to consider the “double articulation” of theory and practice, where poetics ceases to be merely a theory of rhetorical design and is assimilated into a theory of self-knowledge. Originality/value – This paper is offered in the hope that it will be of value to commencing PhD candidates in the creative arts who must navigate the waters between exegesis and creative output for themselves.

Abstract:
Laila Parsons situates her study alongside those of the so-called new historians of the Arab– Israeli conflict who in recent years have rewritten large parts of the dominant narratives of the “traditionalist” historians. One of elements of these narratives has been the assumption that the struggle between Arabs and Jews was a starkly bipolar affair, with a relatively small number of Jews in conflict with a much larger, monolithic population of Arabs. Recent “revisionist” works, however, have shown that this interpretation is inaccurate. For example, an integral part of Zionist policy was to make contact with various Arab leaders and groups before, during, and after the emergence of the State of Israel and forge relationships that could advance the movement's geopolitical agenda. Scholars who have worked on this question include Avi Shlaim (Collusion across the Jordan: King Abdullah, the Zionist Movement, and the Partition of Palestine and The Politics of Partition: King Abdullah, the Zionists and Palestine, 1921–1951) and Kirsten Schulze (Israel's Covert Diplomacy in Lebanon). In The Druze Between Palestine and Israel, a compact and narrowly focused study based on the author's doctoral thesis, Parsons skillfully employs archival sources in Israel, as well as published accounts in English, Arabic, and Hebrew, to show how Zionist officials developed relationships with Druze leaders and representatives and how these links could benefit both sides.

Abstract:
The article is devoted to the analysis of two editions of the correspondence between medievalists M.Y. Syuzyumov (1893–1982) and V.T. Sirotenko (1915–2006). The first of them was predominantly a Byzantine scholar, the second studied the period of transition from antiquity to the Middle Ages in Europe; Syuzyumov actually acted as a consultant for Sirotenko writing his doctoral thesis. The publication of 25 letters was made in 2021 in two versions: in the monograph by A. Wenger and in the article by K.R. Kapsalykova; both versions are independent of each other and differ from each other in dozens of more or less significant details. The article shows that such a difference is explained by: technical errors; different principles of publishing archival materials and individual decisions made by publishers who had to deal with typos, inaccuracies and author's punctuation of the participants in the correspondence. Further, the author demonstrates what details in the correspondence did not get attention from the publishers, which reduced the scientific value of the publication. The correspondence can serve as good evidence of the state of affairs in the provincial scholarship in the late Soviet period, showing the formation of regional versions of the Soviet historical narrative. Recently, the publication of archival sources on the history of Soviet science has acquired a large scale. Therefore, we have the right to raise the question of the quality of publications, which includes both the technical side of the matter and the problems of commenting on the published material. Accordingly, the quality of a source is determined not only by its content, but also by the extent to which the publisher manages to show its meaning in a wider context; when this context is incomprehensible to the publisher himself, then the source will remain “closed” to most readers.

Abstract:
Searching for information when using a computerised retrieval system is a complex and inherently interactive process. Individuals during a search session may issue multiple queries, and examine a varying number of result summaries and documents per query. Searchers must also decide when to stop assessing content for relevance - or decide when to stop their search session altogether. Despite being such a fundamental activity, only a limited number of studies have explored stopping behaviours in detail, with a majority reporting that searchers stop because they decide that what they have found feels " good enough ". Notwithstanding the limited exploration of stopping during search, the phenomenon is central to the study of Information Retrieval, playing a role in the models and measures that we employ. However, the current de facto assumption considers that searchers will examine k documents - examining up to a fixed depth. In this thesis, we examine searcher stopping behaviours under a number of different search contexts. We conduct and report on two user studies, examining how result summary lengths and a variation of search tasks and goals affect such behaviours. Interaction data from these studies are then used to ground extensive simulations of interaction , exploring a number of different stopping heuristics (operationalised as twelve stopping strategies). We consider how well the proposed strategies perform and match up with real-world stopping behaviours. As part of our contribution, we also propose the Complex Searcher Model , a high-level conceptual searcher model that encodes stopping behaviours at different points throughout the search process (see Figure 1 below). Within the Complex Searcher Model, we also propose a new results page stopping decision point. From this new stopping decision point, searchers can obtain an impression of the page before deciding to enter or abandon it. Results presented and discussed demonstrate that searchers employ a range of different stopping strategies, with no strategy standing out in terms of performance and approximations offered. Stopping behaviours are clearly not fixed, but are rather adaptive in nature. This complex picture reinforces the idea that modelling stopping behaviour is difficult. However, simplistic stopping strategies do offer good performance and approximations, such as the frustration -based stopping strategy. This strategy considers a searcher's tolerance to non-relevance. We also find that combination strategies - such as those combining a searcher's satisfaction with finding relevant material, and their frustration towards observing non-relevant material - also consistently offer good approximations and performance. In addition, we also demonstrate that the inclusion of the additional stopping decision point within the Complex Searcher Model provides significant improvements to performance over our baseline implementation. It also offers improvements to the approximations of real-world searcher stopping behaviours. This work motivates a revision of how we currently model the search process and demonstrates that different stopping heuristics need to be considered within the models and measures that we use in Information Retrieval. Measures should be reformed according to the stopping behaviours of searchers. A number of potential avenues for future exploration can also be considered, such as modelling the stopping behaviours of searchers individually (rather than as a population), and to explore and consider a wider variety of different stopping heuristics under different search contexts. Despite the inherently difficult task that understanding and modelling the stopping behaviours of searchers represents, potential benefits of further exploration in this area will undoubtedly aid the searchers of future retrieval systems - with further work bringing about improved interfaces and experiences. Abstract:
The article deals with the methodological concept of the Siberian archaeologist G. I. Medvedev. The central element of his thoughts was the analysis of the features of the archaeological material. He thought quite original for his time, questioning the main thesis of Soviet archaeology about an archaeological object as an objective source of sociohistorical information. The artifact indicates only the fact of the activity and the time of stay of the subjects of the ancient society, and also provides information about the “physically reliable” parameters. It turns out that any social reconstructions, even of the functions of fossil artifacts, are conjectural, and sometimes fantastic. The rationale for this conclusion is based on an understanding of the specific conditions for the formation of artifacts. This conclusion logically led to the interest of Medvedev, a scientist and methodologist, in the question of how to ensure the reliability of the knowledge produced by archaeologists. His research in this area led him to the project “geoarchaeology”. Medvedev's methodological concept has been formed for several decades and has been presented in scientific papers of different years. In the 1970s, the author and a group of like-minded people in the archaeological laboratory of the Irkutsk State University accumulated experience in conducting morphological and technological studies of stone and ceramics, offered justification for their compliance with the features of archaeological sites. In the candidate's and then doctoral dissertations, practical experience was collected and comprehended, some theoretical ideas were formulated. Even then, Medvedev identified two areas of his research – geoarchaeological and cultural-historical, dividing them not only by subject, but also by the degree of reliability of the results. In the 1990s and 2000s, there was a comprehension and theoretical formulation of the concept of geoarchaeology, which Medvedev considered as a condition for overcoming the difficulties of archaeological knowledge, achieving reliability, objectivity, and reliability of the knowledge produced. The elements of this concept can be considered the definition of geoarchaeology as a science, the definition of its subject area and cognitive boundaries, the analysis of geoarchaeological objects and directions of their study, the identification of the structure and methods of research, the concept of “recognition threshold”, the steps of presenting the author's conclusions.

Abstract:
Until the beginning of the 20th century Swedish nniversity novels were written by men. It took almost förty years from 1873 when women were accepted at the universities before female students were able to use their own experience and depict university life in a realistic way. In 1915 a young journalist and academic named Ellen Landquist published her first and only novel called Suzanne, which was an account of female students' lives in Uppsala around 1910. From that day the number of female writers dealing with university life in their novels gradually increased. A comparative reading of a couple of university novels, published between 1904 and 1943 by female and male writers, is the subject of my doctoral thesis. In this article I take a closer look at women writers dealing with Swedish university life at the beginning of the century. I am focusing on Marit Grene, an unpublished and partly destroyed novel, written by a young Uppsala student named Greta Beckius (1886-1912). After Beckius' suicide the manuscript was taken care of by her friends and relatives and it was regarded as shocking and immoral. It therefore remained unpublished causing a great deal of controversy among the people involved. Finally Beckius' sister partly destroyed the manuscript in order to protect the author's memory. In order to point out the similarities and the differences between Beckius' manuscript and those written by the other women writers, I focus on main topics, such as love, moral, sexuality and equality between sexes. These topics are characteristic of all university novels written by female authors, and they also distinguish them from those male writers who depicted university life at that time. For the women writers, discussing female sexuality and the problem of responsibility in love and relationsships was often the primary project. However, among the female writers, Greta Beckius is the most outspoken when it comes to discussing a young woman's sexual initiation. Beckius' novel shows a female academic who struggles against the double standard of morality represented by the patriarchal society. Beckius is very outspoken about intercourse and sexual abuse at a time when other female writers chose to let their public read between the lines. My conjecture is that the book, could never have been published as early as 1912 even if Beckius had lived to revise and finish her manuscript.

Abstract:
Listen to those silences: translating, communicating and reflecting Entendez-vous dans les montagnes…by Maïssa Bey, in Italian and English Maïssa Bey is a French-speaking Algerian writer whose first works were published in the 1990s, during the "black decade" of the civil war that ravaged Algeria. Algerian people, especially women, of whom the author is an integral part, are the protagonists of her stories and novels that aim to break the silences and censorship, to explore the small stories hidden behind the big story. This article aims to analyse the Italian and English translations of Entendez-vous dans les montagnes..., a novel published in France in 2002 and in Algeria in 2007. The Italian translation, published by Astarte in 2020, is by Barbara Sommovigo, who had already translated Bey’s Puisque mon coeur est mort in 2013, initiating an almost paradigmatic author-translator relationship that allows for an effective approach to a short but complex text like Entendez- vous dans les montagnes... The English translation is by the American Erin Lamm, and is the result of her doctoral thesis, with a clearly more academic intention than the Italian text, whose publishing house Astarte aims to communicate voices from the shores of the Mediterranean. In fact, Bey's work travels between two languages and therefore between two cultures, the French and the Algerian, which intersect in the pages of the story like the lives of the three protagonists. An Algerian woman, an elderly Frenchman and Marie, a young blond woman, meet in the same compartment of a train to evoke memories and thoughts, which lead them to the past and recent history of Algeria, through painful pages among which is evoked the loss of the author's father, killed in 1957 by French soldiers. It is a difficult task for the translators to render this multiplicity of themes and languages from the title: for a French-speaking reader, there is a strong reference to both a line from the Marseillaise and an Algerian patriotic song (Min Djibalina). The Italian title is therefore changed to Dietro quei silenzi…, while the English title is purely literal, Do You Hear in the Mountains... This is just one of the translation choices that will be analysed in this paper, in which the comparison between the strategies and techniques used in the two translation works will be constant, creating a perpetual dialogue with the original text, in the image of the friendship that now exists between the author Maïssa Bey and the two translators.

Abstract:
AbstractThe article discusses part of the data obtained in a training process that was part of the first author's doctoral thesis, whose objective was to investigate the knowledge necessary for future Mathematics teachers to explore notions of sequence, series and limits in High School. Data were collected through an initial questionnaire and discussions in two meetings with seven fully online Mathematics Degree students from a private university center in São Paulo. The theoretical framework was based on Tall and Vinner's conceptions of conceptual image and the studies of Ball, Thames and Phelps on Mathematics teachers' professional knowledge, especially specialized content knowledge. Data analysis revealed that participants had difficulties in identifying the regularity of the installments of an infinite series and understanding the concept of limit. However, during discussions about the proposed activities, there was progress in understanding these concepts, especially in relation to convergent and divergent series. The article concludes by highlighting the importance of approaches that favor the gradual understanding and anticipation of fundamental concepts, such as the limit of sequences and numerical series, to favor the development of abstraction and generalization, in addition to facilitating future learning of Differential Calculus concepts. Abstract:
So far, many people don't know the term Bushcraft in detail, even though we see this language very often on our social media. In a narrow sense, some of us think that bushcraft is about adventure in the wild, or there are also those who think that this is the same as the science of survival in the wild. Indeed, some of these points of view are a bit close to the notion of bushcraft itself, both are related to survival in the wild, but there are differences. Bushcraft is more about using primitive tools made by hand as a medium for survival in the wild. This is one of the author's goals in the creation of this stone carving, using primitive human knowledge as a technique for survival. The method of creating this stone carving work is by elaboration and synthesis. Elaboration is an activity carried out by the author to find and collect the required data and work carefully. Then the data is analyzed in detail in the preparation process. Synthesis is a process of combining the results of the elaboration to be realized in a form of concept work. The creation of this work is an implementation of primitive culture as a way to survive. This stone carving later developed into a work of art that has aesthetic value in today's society. Not only as a form of survival in the wild, even bushcraft scholarship can also be a medium of survival in this era of globalization.Keyword : bushcraft, carving, stone. Brito, Celene. "Evaluation of circular skills and circular mind-set of consumers with the use of it - case study in a sample of consumers in northeast Brazil compared to a sample of internal stakeholders of an industry in transition to the circular economy." International Journal of Complementary & Alternative Medicine 16, no. 5 (October 26, 2023): 285–89. http://dx.doi.org/10.15406/ijcam.2023.16.00664.

Abstract:
The circular economy concept has spread around the world, including Europe and Latin America. It is defined as a concept that led to a rethinking of economic and sustainable practices today and is inspired by the functioning of ecosystems and nature. It is innovation and design that are inseparable from products and systems, in the context of sustainable development. It is based on the principle of “closing the life cycle” of products, allowing a reduction in the consumption of raw materials, energy, and water. It promotes the development of new relationships between companies, which become consumers and suppliers of materials and are reincorporated into the production cycle. Several Circular Economy goals have already been achieved in the field of research, science, and technology. Numerous studies and efforts have been performed in the scientific and technological area for searching solutions to overcome legal, regulatory, political and technological barriers posed by several institutions; among them, the pioneering Ellen Mac Arthur Foundation has been joining efforts over the years in improving the conception and operation of the circular economy, applied to industrial processes and production chains, as well as in the structuring of new technological ecosystems. For every achievement, new challenges arise for the Circular Economy, which now needs to gain the trust of managers, politicians, investors, and entrepreneurs to initiate, plan and manage the circular economy in industry and companies. Consumers present challenges that need to be overcome by offering differentiated products and services. The objective of the work reported here was to identify mental and cultural barriers, which can generate various obstacles to the development of Circular Economy and Environmental Social Governance (ESG, such as climate change, pollution, and human resource management) issues and find ways and guidelines to resolve the problem. When investigating mentality, culture and skills for the Circular Economy, there are several possibilities to contribute to the construction of knowledge applied to the reality of companies and consumers, carrying out pilot studies in Industries with the method expressly created and oriented towards the “integrated assessment of competence", with the objective of planning and implementing the circular economy. It is based on the identification of mental models, on psychological aspects that are in line with the transition to the Circular Economy.” This method is reported here and has been used to collect data for the author's doctoral thesis. As a tool, the information platform was used, with FlashPlayHR® software (www.flashplayhr.com.br/#). bilingual, in Portuguese and English, and was developed with the aim of helping leaders, employees and stakeholders to better understand the complex systems developed through innovation in the Circular Economy. It is based on the assessment of mental models from linear to circular, as well as in identifying skills to operate with circular models. The case studies presented here included an electronics recovery and recycling industry located in São Paulo – Brazil in 2022 and a group of internet users. The study defines circular guidelines based on mindset, generating data for systemic, tactical, and operational planning, with interaction between technology and humans. The method provided the mapping/diagnosis of each employee and the organization's human system, defining the stages of the process “from linear to circular,” generating content for conducting systemic planning. One of the fundamental aspects of the method is to support the strategic human resources area of organizations, providing conditions for creating constructive interaction and integration with other areas of the industry to build a Systemic Corporate Governance Model., in addition to data and content for the development of circular programs and actions. The systems view becomes preponderant and fundamental for planning. The method/software was applied to two groups of people: one more focused on circular economy in the context of an electronic recovery industry, and another more distant from circular economy concepts, formed by Internet users. The methodology applied to the electronic retrieval industry and a random group of Internet users is reported here in detail. It was possible to identify the “linear to circular” stage of the industry to achieve the circular model.

Abstract:
Cas Wepener is a brilliant and committed young liturgist. This book is based on his doctoral thesis in the Afrikaans language (Stellenbosch University 2004), roughly double the length of this published From Fast to Feast, but this book is a fundamental revision of the thesis. Wepeners work on reconciliation as practised in the liturgy is still very relevant in our post-apartheid context in South Africa and will be topical for some time to come.

Abstract:
We give combinatorial proofs of three identities, each of which generalizes Weyl's denominator formula for two of the three root systems $B_n$, $C_n$, $D_n$. Two of the three identities are due to S. Okada; the third appears in the author's doctoral thesis, upon which this work is based. Each of the identities we prove has a "sum side" and a "product side"; both sides are polynomials in several commuting indeterminates. We use weighted digraphs to represent the terms on each side; the set of such digraphs that corresponds to the sum side is a proper subset of the set corresponding to the product side.

Abstract:
This work, which emerged with the revision of Muhammed Hüseyin Mercan's doctoral thesis, deals with the problem of institutionalization in Islamic movements through the Muslim Brotherhood, which is the founder and most important movement in the Islamic world. The necessity of examining the level of institutionalization of Islamic movements, as they operate as a political institution in terms of their political agenda and social base, is stated as the main argument of the study. In addition, the questions of how the Muslim Brotherhood used its institutionalization ability to overcome the problems it experienced in its nearly 90-year history and how the areas where institutionalization failed to affect the general policy of the organization were expressed as the main questions sought to be answered in the study.

Abstract:
This article discusses the Balkan narrative in the movies, as a model for cultural diplomacy or propaganda, through the analysis of two Balkan movies nominated for the Best International FeatureFilm Oscar – Bosnian Quo Vadis Aida? and Serbian Dara from Jasenovac. The analysis is based on"film cards“, a methodological template of the author's research for the doctoral thesis, but also on the articles of journalists, film critics, and political analysts published in the period January 4th, 2021 -March 4th, 2021. In the analysis of the movies and the published texts, the author discusses various forms of public diplomacy (foreign and domestic), building/dismantling of the relations between nations in the Balkans, online media impact on social networks and their users informing public opinion, and achieving effective goals through strategic communication with the targeted public. Conclusions dewpoint to the importance and the power of online communication through the media and social networks, but also at their importance of strategic planning of the communication with targeted audiences in achieving the planned goals.

Abstract:
Today, steam engines are used for special purposes only, for example to reduce steam pressure in pressure reduction stations, where they replace the traditional and inefficient throttling process. Throttling is the most used way to control the pressure in steam reduction stations. This way is unsatisfactory from the economical point of view, because the exergy is lost uselessly. It is a part of heat energy that can perform a work. The better way of a pressure reduction is an expansion in a backpressure turbine or in a steam engine by simultaneous transformation of the heat energy into electricity (cogeneration). This article describes the design and implementation of the mathematical model of a steam engine used as pressure regulator in a pressure reduction station. The present model is a part of a comprehensive mathematical model of a cogeneration unit and also a part of the author's doctoral thesis. The model assumes detailed mathematical description of physical processes in a steam engine and implementation in an MATLAB-SIMULINK software environment.
