Abstract:
Over the coming decades, Artificial Intelligence will profoundly impact the way we live, work, wage war, play, seek a mate, educate our young, and care for our elderly. It is likely to greatly increase our aggregate wealth, but it will also upend our labor markets, reshuffle our social order, and strain our private and public institutions. Eventually it may alter how we see our place in the universe, as machines pursue goals independent of their creators and outperform us in domains previously believed to be the sole dominion of humans. Whether we regard them as conscious or unwitting, revere them as a new form of life or dismiss them as mere clever appliances, is beside the point. They are likely to play an increasingly critical and intimate role in many aspects of our lives. The emergence of systems capable of independent reasoning and action raises serious questions about just whose interests they are permitted to serve, and what limits our society should place on their creation and use. Deep ethical questions that have bedeviled philosophers for ages will suddenly arrive on the steps of our courthouses. Can a machine be held accountable for its actions? Should intelligent systems enjoy independent rights and responsibilities, or are they simple property? Who should be held responsible when a self-driving car kills a pedestrian? Can your personal robot hold your place in line, or be compelled to testify against you? If it turns out to be possible to upload your mind into a machine, is that still you? The answers may surprise you.

Abstract:
This practical guide to artificial intelligence and its impact on industry dispels common myths and calls for cross-sector, collaborative leadership for the responsible design and embedding of AI in the daily work of businesses and oversight by boards. Artificial intelligence has arrived, and it's coming to a business near you. The disruptive impact of AI on the global economy—from health care to energy, financial services to agriculture, and defense to media—is enormous. Technology literacy is a must for traditional businesses, their boards, policy makers, and governance professionals. This is the first book to explain where AI comes from, why it has emerged as one of the most powerful forces in mergers and acquisitions and research and development, and what companies need to do to implement it successfully. It equips business leaders with a practical roadmap for competing and even thriving in the face of the coming AI revolution. The authors analyze competitive trends, provide industry and governance examples, and explain interactions between AI and other digital technologies, such as blockchain, cybersecurity, and the Internet of Things. At the same time, AI experts will learn how their research and products can increase the competitiveness of their businesses, and corporate boards will come away with a thorough knowledge of the AI governance, ethics, and risk questions to ask.

Abstract:
The convergence of robotics technology with the science of artificial intelligence is rapidly enabling the development of robots that emulate a wide range of intelligent human behaviors. Recent advances in machine learning techniques have produced artificial agents that can acquire highly complex skills formerly thought to be the exclusive province of human intelligence. These developments raise a host of new ethical concerns about the responsible design, manufacture, and use of robots enabled with artificial intelligence—particularly those equipped with self-learning capacities. While the potential benefits of self-learning robots are immense, their potential dangers are equally serious. While some warn of a future where AI escapes the control of its human creators or even turns against us, this chapter focuses on other, far less cinematic risks of AI that are much nearer to hand, requiring immediate study and action by technologists, lawmakers, and other stakeholders.

Abstract:
The world is changing so fast that it is hard to know how to think about what we ought to do. We barely have time to reflect on how scientific advances will affect our lives before they are upon us. New kinds of dilemma are springing up. Can robots be held responsible for their actions? Will artificial intelligence be able to predict criminal activity? Is the future gender-fluid? Should we strive to become post-human? Should we use drugs to improve our intimate relationships — or to reduce crime? Our intuitions about questions like these are often both weak and confused. This book presents provocative and engaging pieces about aspects of life today, and life tomorrow — birth and death, health and medicine, brain and body, personal relationships, wrongdoing and justice, the internet, animals, and the environment.

Abstract:
The chapter poses questions about personhood, and explores them through some philosophy, extended examples from machine learning and artificial intelligence, and religious reflection. Parfit’s Reasons and Persons and the use of game theory is explored. The question of human free will is framed as centring on the issue of responsibility. Recent advances in AI, especially learning systems such as AlphaGo, are presented. These do not settle any fundamental questions about the nature of consciousness, but they do encourage us to ask what our attitude to autonomous machines should be. The discussion then turns to human evolutionary development, and to what makes humans distinctive, touching on scientific, philosophical, and theological issues. Some aspects of philosophy and theology can be productively approached through storytelling; this fruitful method is seen at work in the Bible. To be responsible lies at the heart of what it means to be human.

Abstract:
This fourth edition of the DSIB presents the main results of the research carried out under four broad-based projects jointly developed by researchers and actors involved in topics of great social relevance such as responsible gambling, Cooperative-Intelligent transport Systems, gender dimension of alcohol addiction and support and care for victims of trafficking for sexual exploitation. This issue comprises the following four briefings: 1. What would sports betting advertising be like if it were handled more responsibly? will analyse the structure of sports betting advertising, in an attempt to understand whether such advertising could become a public health issue. This briefing examines different works that have led to scientific publications and presents their main conclusions as well as the major recommendations for gambling companies and regulators. 2. How can artificial intelligence reduce road traffic accidents and prevent congestion? This briefing seeks to present the benefits of the TIMON system for optimising traffic management and urban transport network operations in cities, directly supporting transport managers in their decision-making processes for transport operations. 3. Gender inequalities in matters of drug addiction: how does alcoholism really affect women? aims to study the phenomenon of drug dependence from a gender perspective. This involves identifying what kind of socio-cultural and psychological representations are involved in women, according to their gender role, so that they develop a series of risk factors for them, both for the beginning of consumption and in its continuity. In addition, the research team proposes guidelines for a specialized care for women in this area, in order to increase the effectiveness of required interventions. 4. Key points for supporting and accompanying victims and survivors of human trafficking for sexual exploitation is intended as a working document for specialists involved in the prevention and detection of cases and in support and care for victims. It seeks to fill the current gaps and meet the needs of women victims of trafficking providing a better response to their situations.

Deery, Oisín. Naturally Free Action. Oxford University Press, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780198789796.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
Do we have free will? This book argues that the answer to that question is “yes,” by showing how the concept of free will refers to many actual behaviors, and how free actions are a natural kind. Additionally, the book addresses the role of phenomenology in fixing the reference of the concept, and argues that free-agency phenomenology is typically accurate, even if determinism is true. The result is a realist, naturalistic framework for theorizing about free will, according to which free will exists and we act freely. For the most part, this verdict is reached independently of addressing the compatibility question, which asks whether free will is compatible with determinism. Even so, the book weighs in on that question, arguing that the natural-kind view both supports compatibilism and provides compatibilists with an attractive way to be realists about free will. The resulting position is preferable to previous natural-kind accounts as well as to revisionist accounts of free will and moral responsibility. Finally, the view defuses recent empirical threats to free will and is able to address emerging questions about whether an artificially intelligent agent might ever act freely or be responsible for its behaviors.

Abstract:
This study examines issues of modern management and trends in its development. Its evolution from the end of the 19th century to the present is presented. The current state of management systems is analyzed, attention is paid to trends in the development of management science and practice, which have developed and are still being formed, as well as objective factors that affect the specified process. Globalization, as a phenomenon, is a complex and multifaceted process that affects various aspects of society, economy, and politics. In the context of business and management, globalization creates new opportunities for the development of international businesses, but at the same time poses challenges and threats associated with competition, cultural differences, and regulation. The main approaches to evaluating the business model of an enterprise are summarized. The principles of business model evaluation based on the principles of its innovativeness, adaptability and sustainability are defined. A system of evaluation methods and tools is formed, the conditions for their application, tasks and opportunities for making management decisions based on the evaluation are identified. A comparative assessment of the features of the formation of generations X, Y, Z, Alpha, events that formed these generations was carried out; their values, attitude to work, desire for feedback. It is noted that the theory of generations plays an important role in understanding these features and forming strategies for managing the development of human capital, since each generation has its own values, beliefs and approaches to work and learning. The issue of building an effective personnel motivation system at the enterprise is under consideration. The essence and advantages of implementing the policy of diversity and inclusion at modern enterprises are considered. It was emphasized that compliance with the policy of personnel diversity and inclusion of the workplace will allow attracting and retaining the necessary employees with high motivational readiness at the enterprise. The examines and analyzes contemporary challenges facing enterprises in a dynamic business environment, particularly in the context of the necessity for digital transformation and the formation of digital intelligence to ensure competitiveness. Proposed practical recommendations for organizations on the effective implementation of digital innovations in strategic management and achieving competitive advantage in a dynamic business environment. The study results of the influence of ESG and sustainability ratings on the multinational banks' war response strategies based on the Yale CELI database of companies leaving and staying in Russia are presented. It presents various aspects of sustainable development management in the context of modern management. The impact of globalization on the process of managing sustainable development and the role of public administration in this context are also considered. Additionally, the integration of sustainability concepts into local management practices and ethical aspects related to sustainability management are highlighted. Substantiates the importance of transition to an adaptive approach in the state regulation of investment activity and increase of the country's investment attractiveness in modern conditions. It has been established that adaptive regulation contributes to the achievement of stability and efficiency in the economic system, rapid response to external and internal challenges. The advisability of improving the methodologies of ESG rating providers is substantiated. The special importance of the leadership institute for the development of ecosocial management was revealed and, as a result, an analysis of the activities of the most successful innovative leaders of today was carried out, the result of which is the sustainable development and successful implementation of ecosocial management mechanisms at modern enterprises. It is established that today digital transformation is the use of digital technologies as a tool for reengineering business processes in higher education institutions. The main problematic aspects of the digitalization of education include the problem of adopting innovations, increasing the additional workload of teachers, shifting the vector of pedagogical work, and digital inequality. The challenges arising in the higher education system due to the development of artificial intelligence are identified in the results of scientific research. Artificial intelligence is revealed to be an important enabling mechanism for expanding teaching and learning opportunities, administering the educational process, and enhancing research potential. Higher education institutions can harness the transformative potential of artificial intelligence by using it responsibly and effectively. Based on a comprehensive analysis of real-life examples and research, the opportunities and challenges posed by MOOCs are discussed, as well as their implications for the future of quality provision in higher education.
