Full textSoftware defined radio receiver is a promising technique for future receivers which provides a variety of protocols. It digitizes the RF signal directly to low-frequency. We propose an SDR receiver based on a bandpass sigma delta modulator. The most essential element is the loop filter, there are two main configurations, an LC tank resonator and an active RC resonator. We focus on the active RC resonators for a low chip area. We target applications in the vicinity of 400 MHz, namely Advanced Research and Global Observation Satellite, Medical Implant Communication Service. We introduce a new comparison between the two-op-amp resonator CT BP sigma delta modulator and the one-op-amp resonator CT BP sigma delta modulator. We study the sensitivity of the quality factor and the signal to noise ratio to the DC-gain op-amps in two-op-amp resonator sigma delta modulator. It also shows how, in one-op-amp resonator sigma delta modulator, the quality factor and the signal to noise ratio, are very sensitive to any variations in the capacitors values for limited DC-gain op-amps. We establish a mathematical model of the thermal-noise behaviour for two-op-amp resonator CT BP sigma delta modulator. This model matches the circuit simulator results with a good accuracy. Furthermore, we demonstrate that a high quality factor (>100) of the two-op-amp resonators can be achieved by selecting the proper value of the integrator gain at a moderate DC-gain op-amp (35dB). Both sigma delta modulators are designed using flipped-well devices on fully depleted silicon on insulator technology, where we use body biasing to compensate the process, voltage and temperature variations

Full textNowadays, there is a need of new types of technologies for sound reduction because of the growing of different industries. In this context, we have studied the targeted energy transfer using a purely acoustic resonator. These acoustic resonators act, in the linear regime, as a Tuned Masse Damper (TMD) and they are efficient for a narrow frequency band. But, when they are excited with high forces, in the nonlinear regime, they are efficient for a wider frequency band if the nonlinear terms are activated. First, an experimental study about the nonlinear behavior of a modified Helmholtz Resonator was done. Then, the governing equation of such resonators were developed considering the nonlinearities in the restitution force and damping. An approximation of the analytical solution of the governing equation of the acoustical resonator is derived using the multiples scales of time method and the non-smooth time transformation method. In a second part, a study about the coupling between an acoustic mode in low frequencies and a resonator (the one studied in the previous part) with a nonlinear behavior is done. In order to do this, experimental measurements of the coupled system to confirm acoustic attenuation by the resonator in forced and free regime were done. Then, an analytical modelling of the coupled system allowed to derive the expression of the Slow Invariant Manifold (SIM), in order to identify the possible equilibrium points and singular points of the system. Derived analytical models were verified by numerical simulations

Full textRecent research on high-temperature superconductors (HTS) has led to the development of planar resonators with a very high quality factor in the low microwave range (some GHz). Such resonators, associated with an amplification circuit, make it possible to produce microwave sources of high spectral purity (or low phase noise). Indeed, quality factors of 300 000 could be demonstrated on these resonators around 1 GHz. However, prior to this thesis work, no oscillator with HTS resonator had been able to include an amplification system that had also been cooled. We began our work by a fine characterization at low temperature of the components constituting the oscillation loop: the resonator, the transistor (amplifier) ??and the varactor (phase control). Accurate characterization of different superconducting resonators has been performed over a wide temperature range and at different RF power levels. This work allowed us to extract a non-linear model of the resonator that can be used in a 1 GHz circuit design. As regards the amplifier, different transistors have been tested with respect to their phase noise and gain performance at 1 GHz and 80 K (and then 60 K thereafter). Following these measurements, a component was selected and modeled. The transistor model, extracted from the I(V) and low temperature S parameters, includes noise sources to simulate the residual phase noise of the transistor (1/f component and noise floor). Using this model, a low noise phase cryogenic amplifier could be designed and noise optimized on the Keysight ADS software. Similar work has been done on varactor diodes to include a frequency tuning circuit for the oscillator to allow frequency lock on an external reference. Finally, using these models, an all cryogenic oscillator could be simulated and realized in hybrid technology on alumina. To our knowledge, this is the first entirely cryogenic oscillator with HTS resonator. This circuit was measured by advanced metrology techniques and the results are presented in the thesis

Full textInertials sensors based on atom interferometry use cold atom clouds cooled to micro-Kelvin temperatures and interrogation times of a few hundred of milliseconds. These conditions lead to an expansion of the atom clouds reaching centimetric sizes, which leads to difficulties when trying to adress them efficiently with gaussian laser beams. This work aims at developing different means to counteract the constraints brought by these gaussian beams and their limited intensity. Two main axes are explored. On the one hand, the intensity inhomogeneity of the interrogation beams has been adressed by the study, realisation and characterization of beamshaping solutions. One of these solutions has been adapted to an atom interferometry experiment, and its impact characterized. On the other hand, the current use of gaussian beams with centimetric sizes to interrogate as many atoms as possible brings constraints on the laser power. The idea of taking advantage of the optical gain of optical resonators rises in the field and constitutes the heart of this work.Different optical resonators concepts have been considered to allow the resonance of a large optical mode in a compact geometry. We built a degenerated optical resonator, with an intra-cavity lens, and studied the influence of misalignments and opticals defects on the resonance of large injected gaussian beams. These two devices and their combination open the way towards a generation of advanced atom interferometers, for precise experiments of fundamental physics or the development of compact cold atom inertial sensors

Full textThis thesis focuses on the development and the study of Si-based materials dedicated to silicon photonics applications such as optical amplifier or laser. Si-rich SiO2 and Si-rich Si3N4 matrices containing Nd3+ rare earth ions were studied. In such matrices, Nd3+ ions benefit from energy transfer from defects states and/or Silicon nanoparticles present in the host resulting in an efficient indirect excitation of Nd3+ on a broad UV-VIS spectral range. Thus, remarkable emissions of Nd3+ ions at 920, 1064, and 1300 nm have been observed. In order to develop the waveguide active guiding layer from the two matrices and taking the Nd3+ ions emission as a figure of merit, the optimization of the Nd-doped layers was carried out. The composition was engineered in terms of Si excess and Nd content by magnetron sputtering methods. Both matrices were annealed by classical or rapid thermal annealing processes in order to tune the layers’ microstructures. Investigations of factors influencing the Nd3+ ions emission and sensitization mechanisms have been carried out in both matrices. In Si-rich SiO2, several kinds of Si-based sensitizers towards the Nd3+ ions have been evidenced. While in Si-rich Si3N4 an excitation mechanism of Nd3+ ions dependent on silicon excess has been shown. Finally, waveguide based on Si-rich SiO2:Nd3+ layer has shown a significant net gain of 0. 68 cm-1 (2. 95dB. Cm-1) at 1064 nm

Full textIn this paper, we study from the experimental and theoretical point of view, the clock signal characteristics given by a laser diode optically pumped cesium beam resonator. In the first part, we determine owing to rates equations the best pumping and detection configuration which maximize the clock signal amplitude. In the second part, these theoretical predictions are compared with experiments. We particularly deal with one laser set-up, which is very simple to operate. Its delivers a clock signal with an excellent signal to noise ratio, very promising in atomic clock operation. We finally analyze, in the last part, more sophisticated configurations using several laser sources. They should notably increase the signal to noise ratio, if one reduces the frequency noise of laser diodes used in the experiments. Ln conclusion, this study clearly shows that optical pumping allows an improvement of cesium atomic clock performances

Full textWe present the operation of an experimental setup designed to optically measure the quantum position fluctuations of a macroscopic mechanical resonator. The resonator is kept in a cryogenic environment and its movement is monitored with a high-finesse Fabry-Perot cavity. We have designed and realized an optimized resonator for the observation of its quantum position fluctuations. It consists in a quartz micropillar vibrating on a compression mode and clamped at its center by a thin membrane. We have demonstrated a fundamental vibration mode oscillating at 4 MHz with a mechanical quality factor close to two millions. We have implemented this resonator in a high-finesse Fabry-Perot cavity. A high-reflectivity mirror is coated only on top of the pillar in order to avoid any altering of its mechanical quality factor. We have developed a laser photoablation technique in order to realize the coupling mirror of the cavity with a very small radius of curvature as well as a high reflectivity. This allows us to build a cavity with a finesse of 50 000 and an optical beam waist, smaller than 10 µm, fitting the transverse size of the resonator. We had make a dilution refrigerator especially designed and optimized for ultrasensitive position measurement, in which we have operated the optomechanical device. The whole optical setup, made of an ultra-stable laser source and a resonator motion detection device, allows us to observe thermal position fluctuations of the resonator down to about 1 K

Full textIdiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis (IPF) is a fibroproliferative disease with poor prognosis and for which no effective treatment exists. The mechanisms of this disease remain poorly understood and involve numerous cell types and growth factors such as TGF-β, which leads to the activation of lung fibroblasts into myofibroblasts; the key cell type driving the fibrogenic process. In this context, we focused the involvement of miRNAs in fibrosis process. To identify miRNAs with potential roles in lung fibrogenesis, we performed a genome-wide assessment of miRNA expression in lungs from two different mouse strains known for their distinct susceptibility to lung fibrosis after bleomycin exposure. We identified miR- 199a-5p as the best candidate associated with lung fibrosis but also kidney and liver fibrosis. I observed that miR-199a-5p expression was induced upon TGF-β exposure, and that its ectopic expression was sufficient to promote the pathogenic activation of pulmonary fibroblasts. Using combination of targets miRNA prediction tools and a transcriptomic approach we identified the Caveolin-1 (CAV-1), a critical mediator of pulmonary fibrosis, as a specific target of miR-199a-5p. Thus, we shown that miR-199a-5p is a key effector of TGF-β signaling in lung fibroblasts by regulating CAV1. Interestingly, inhibition of miR-199a-5p in vitro prevents the differentiation, proliferation and migration of fibroblasts after TGF-β stimulation. Finally, our preclinical results indicate that inhibition of this miRNA decreases fibrosis markers. Thus, miR-199a-5p behaves as a major regulator of tissue fibrosis with therapeutic potency for the treatment of IPF and fibroproliferative diseases

Full textThis work deals with the design of analog biquadratic filters using voltage amplifiers. This study results from the transposition of such filter into microwaves. At first the filter was studied in its holistic struture in order to obtain its optimal configuration. By choosing wisely passive elements values of the later a band-pass filter was realized, which is stable accordable and simple to integrate in other cellular elements. However, this filter is highly sensitive to its constitutive elements. Among the elements that might influence the filter performance is the no-ideality of the amplifier. These things were examined and it was revealed that the no-ideality impair the filter fonction. Furthermore, a major part of this study focused on searching for a topology of a finite gain amplifier based on a feedback principle. .

Full textSuperconducting quantum circuits are currently investigated in many labs. An important goal of this research is to build and couple several superconducting quantum bits for quantum information processing. The theoretical description of these circuits is based on the coupled dynamics of the superconducting phase differences at the Josephson junctions and the degrees of freedom of the surrounding electromagnetic environment. This nonlinear dynamics has been much studied in the classical regime. Quantum effects have been considered by perturbative methods, assuming that some degrees of freedom are thermalized. In contrast, the coupled quantum dynamics was largely unexplored in a non-perturbative regime. The goal of the trainee will be to describe the crossover between the classical and quantum regimes in the case of a single Josephson junction coupled to an electromagnetic resonator. For this, the candidate will study the master equations for this system with analytical and numerical methods. In the long term, the aim will be to understand how to generate and manipulate photons thanks to time-resolved electric control of the circuit

Full textWireless communications are experiencing tremendous growth and are integrated into most modern electronic systems. More precisely, saving energy consumption of RF power amplifier is the core of this thesis work. This work presents a dynamic drain bias architecture used to keep a high efficiency over a large output power range. Design and implementation of a wideband RF power amplifier, a drain supply modulator and a gate driver circuit in GaN technology are presented. The built-in prototype demonstrates an overall efficiency improvement. A specific focus on non-linear interaction between the RF power amplifier and the drain supply modulator highlights the effects of this technique on the output envelope signal shape. A narrow pulse gate bias peaking preceding drain bias voltage variations is applied in order to mitigate drain bias current, voltage overshoot and power droop, thus improving pulse envelope waveforms of the RF output signal. An experimental validation of the proposed demonstrator is performed for a RF pulsed test sequence having different power levels. This way enables to keep rectangular pulse envelope shape at the RF output signal without any major impact on overall efficiency performances

Full textThe study presented in this thesis relates to the analysis of a ladder-type filter co-integrated with a CMOS low noise amplifier (LNA) in the frequency band around 945-MHz. The theoretical study of the filter was carried out by using initially the coupling of modes model (COM) but also by applying equivalent circuit RLC of the resonator. The filter was developed on a structure with three layers of a ZnO film and aluminium (Al) electrodes on a silicon (Si) substrate with a Ti for metallization. This filter is composed of six resonators on the same port. The theoretical and experimental results were analyzed. An amplifier low noise entirely co-integrated with this filter intended for the use in a global system mobile(GSM) receiver, was implemented in a standard process of 0,35µm in technology CMOS. Design procedure and simulation results of filter-LNA unit by using an amplifier with four types of inductances of different quality factors (Q) were presented. Our study enables us to affirm that today; we can make the co-integration of the two components (filter with LNA). Finally, we present the layout of the filter-LNA unit

Full textThis thesis is based on the study of an active mode-locked laser operating at a repetition rate helow 10 Gb/s. The ring cavity of this laser is made with optical fibre acting as a propagating medium for optical pulses. This laser includes a semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) whose gain is modulated by an external optical signal. The goal of this thesis is to put forward a cheap, simple, and elegant method to generate all-optical “clean” pulses dedicated to optical telecommunication. By “clean” pulses, we mean a pulse which fits a mathematical equation which is known to he interesting for fibre propagation, such as the transform limited soliton or gaussian functions. The assumption that a laser with a strong negative dispersion ring cavity, produced by a dispersion compensating fibre, may widely contribute to increasing the laser and pulse properties prompted the elaboration of this project. In this study we offer a theoretical and experimental approach

Full textThe development of optical telecommunication networks entailed a huge effort on research for optical integrated circuits (IOC). Among all the technologies that have been studied to realize IOCs~ ion exchange has been one of the major technologies for realizing IOCs. Nowadays researches aim at integrating several functions on one single wafer as well as hybridizing different technologies. This work deals with the study of a vertically integrated pump-signal duplexer for hybrid optical ampli fiers made by ion-exchange on glass. First, sorne theoritical models have been derived, then the realization process flow has entirely been numerically simulated. The realised duplexer showed an isolation between its two outputs of 21. DB :!:: 0. 4 dB at À,= 980 nm and of 44. DB :!:: 0. 4 dB at À,= 1. 55 /lm. The bandwidth around these nominal wavelengths is larger than 200 nm. The obtained results prove the interest of the proposed design for the realization of integrated amplifying modules on glass

Full textThe electrical power generation in remote maritime areas must face many technical-economicconstraints related to the load satisfaction and the expensivefuel import for fossil based sources. Thanks to the recent development of marine renewable energies, new perspectives appearfor the electrical power supply of maritime remote areas, so asto decarbonize the electrical power generation. In this thesis, it is proposed to study the sizing and the energy management of anislanded microgrid madeof solar photovoltaic panels, wind turbines, tidal turbines, wave energy converters and batteries. A preliminary analysis of the harnessed resources allows some complementarities and non-complementaritiesto be highlighted. In order to reduce the unmet load demand and the cost of energy, a combined sizing and energy management optimization isproposed. Several demand-side management strategies are hierarchically applied on several loads, in order to avoid the occurrence of critical situations. The obtained results show that demand-side management allows the cost of energy to be reduced by decreasingthe amount of required storage. Also, thediversification of the sources brings many benefits. Finally, the ability of the developed algorithms tocorrectly manage the micro-grid in real time is validated on an experimental test bench

Full textUndertaken with the LAUM, this work aims at first tocharacterize non linear distortions relative to electrodynamicloudspeakers with a view to miniaturizing units designed in thelaboratory. Furthermore, a special point about the advantages and drawbacks resulting from voltage or current driving has been investigated. After a brief review about the prominent definitions used in thefield of electro-acoustics, the main properties and specificitiesof transducers are discussed while considering at first linear devices. Considering a generic transducer of the state of theart, the main parameters are given in terms of transfer functions. Then, a current-driving policy is discussed whiletaking account of the actual power operational amplifier properties. Furthermore, the rejection of the mechanical resonance is investigated without any kind of alteration of theideal infinity of the Control Drive Index value. Specific filtering structures are calculated regarding a given transducer and considered either in feedforward or feedback arrangements within the circuitry. After such a first order analysis non linear behaviours areconsidered. At first a straightforward typology of non linearsystems is presented so as to highlight the most importantdefinitions. Then, a special analytical approach is given, allowing us to analyse the harmonic generation from a currentdriven loudspeaker with a mono frequency regime. Such anapproach is extended and generalized by way of original numerical models designed with Simulink®, PSpice® and SLPSsoftware, considering bi tonal stimuli signals. Then, such anapproach is considered with transducers and amplifiers of thestate of the art, allowing us to validate the whole relevantrationale. Thus, the micro speakers actually developed in thelaboratory should be investigated and optimized in the shortrun, considering their relevant electronic conditioning policy

A description of the principal architectures found in the literature related to high efficiency and linear amplification is summarized. In the third chapter, the developed envelope time-domain test bench is presented. Time-synchronization and envelope calibration procedures are discussed. As an illustration, a new specific wideband NPR measurement is presented and experimentally validated. An innovative power amplifier architecture is presented in the fourth chapter. It is based on a specific dynamic gate biasing technique of the power amplifier biased close to the pinch-off point. A 10W GaN S-band demonstrator has been developed. Compared to fixed class-B conditions, a linearity improvement has been reported without any prohibitive efficiency degradation of the RF power amplifier. Finally, an investigation of the proposed technique for the efficiency improvement in the drain envelope tracking technique is proposed

Full textSince 2005, there is an important interest in the international metrology community fornew accurate determinations of the Boltzmann constant kB ; the purpose is to redefine in2015 the unit of thermodynamic temperature, the kelvin. Currently, five techniques areimplemented for determining kB with the objective to achieve a relative uncertainty below1 × 10−6. The method used in the present work is based on acoustic measurements. The Boltzmann constant is linked to the speed of sound u in a noble gas by the virial acousticalequation. The method described here consists in measuring u inside a quasi-sphericalacoustic resonator of inner volume of 0.5 L filled with argon. Measurements are performedduring an isotherm process at the temperature of the triple point of water, T = 273.16 K,at static pressures P from 0.05 MPa to 0.7 MPa. The Boltzmann constant is then determinedby estimating u at zero pressure limit with a polynomial regression. In the present work an acoustic wave propagation model within a quasi-spherical resonatoris defined. Also, the technical means used to carefully control the parameters of theexperiment with an effect on the measurement of u (like temperature, static pressure, gascomposition, etc.) are presented. New exprimental methods and data analyses are described, like the measurement of the radius of the resonator by electromagnetic spectroscopy,as well as the use of the Allan deviation as an efficient tool to study the gas impuritypresence during a long-term experience. Systematic effects are analyzed and corrected. Insome cases the corrections are based on analytical models like the thermal layer boundaryeffect. In other cases, empirical correction functions are proposed, as for the case of changesin the measurements of u related to the continuous gas flow, which was experimentally characterizedin the present work. Finally, the analysis of the data acquiered in 2009 at LCM/LNE-CNAM during two isothermprocesses using argon is presented. This leads to the value kB = 1.3806475 (16) ×10−23 J · K−1, i.e. with a relative uncertainty of 1.14 × 10−6

Full textThe main objective of this thesis work is to characterize finely polarimetric processes taking place within an optical amplifier semiconductor (SOA), especially by using of a spectropolarimetric set-up based on the matrix formalism of Mueller. This spectro-polarimetric study is realized according to conditions of the use of SOA the supply current that allows to the amplification, the average optical power and wavelength of the signal that we want to amplifier it. The obtained conclusions of this study are very important to be taught, and are, a practical point of view, used to propose several ways to optimize the realization of ail-optical fiinctions based on the exploitation of the nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR)

Full textHigh energy ultrashort pulses are highly desirable for many applications. In thismanuscript, we described several methods for pulse duration reduction at high energy. A postcompressionsystem, using SPM-NER in a fused silica plate, has firstly provided 16 fs-5mJpulses, from 50 fs pulses. In a second part, we present a new efficient post compressiontechnique, achieved through ionization of gas in a capillary. With this technique, ultrashortand high energy pulses have been reached (11 fs-13 mJ). Results from modeling done atCEA/SPAM, in good agreement with the experimental ones, have been used to understanddeeply all the involved mechanisms. In order to get even shorter pulses, it is incontrovertibleto work on the laser chain, in front of the post-compression systems. In general, due tospectral gain narrowing in Ti:Saphir laser chain, the pulse duration is limited to 30 fs. Thiseffect, investigated in this thesis, has been compensated by modulating the spectral losses(filter) in the pre-amplifier (regenerative cavity), localized at the gain curve maximum. Pulseduration in the order of 20 fs has been obtained. This study has been completed with a pulseamplification model that shows very good agreement with the experimental measurements. The possibility to combine these processes should generate, in the short term, high energy (10mJ) sub-10 fs laser pulses to produce isolated XUV attosecond pulses

Full textThis work deals with efficiency improvement of power amplifiers which are part of radiofrequency systems. Current requirements in the aerospace industry make next generation satellites to be power flexible and reconfigurable in order to follow markets evolution. Hence, the idea aims on the one hand, at properly using available on-board DC power and on the other hand, at offering the spacecraft capabilities to lead various mission plans. Consequently, this thesis mainly deals with efficiency improvement of HPAs and describes the design of an highly efficient 30W HPA based on the Envelope Tracking concept. The proposed VHF envelope amplifier demonstrates significant performances regarding efficiency and bandwidth while assuming wide bandwidth modulated signals
