Full textSoftware defined radio receiver is a promising technique for future receivers which provides a variety of protocols. It digitizes the RF signal directly to low-frequency. We propose an SDR receiver based on a bandpass sigma delta modulator. The most essential element is the loop filter, there are two main configurations, an LC tank resonator and an active RC resonator. We focus on the active RC resonators for a low chip area. We target applications in the vicinity of 400 MHz, namely Advanced Research and Global Observation Satellite, Medical Implant Communication Service. We introduce a new comparison between the two-op-amp resonator CT BP sigma delta modulator and the one-op-amp resonator CT BP sigma delta modulator. We study the sensitivity of the quality factor and the signal to noise ratio to the DC-gain op-amps in two-op-amp resonator sigma delta modulator. It also shows how, in one-op-amp resonator sigma delta modulator, the quality factor and the signal to noise ratio, are very sensitive to any variations in the capacitors values for limited DC-gain op-amps. We establish a mathematical model of the thermal-noise behaviour for two-op-amp resonator CT BP sigma delta modulator. This model matches the circuit simulator results with a good accuracy. Furthermore, we demonstrate that a high quality factor (>100) of the two-op-amp resonators can be achieved by selecting the proper value of the integrator gain at a moderate DC-gain op-amp (35dB). Both sigma delta modulators are designed using flipped-well devices on fully depleted silicon on insulator technology, where we use body biasing to compensate the process, voltage and temperature variations

Full textNowadays, there is a need of new types of technologies for sound reduction because of the growing of different industries. In this context, we have studied the targeted energy transfer using a purely acoustic resonator. These acoustic resonators act, in the linear regime, as a Tuned Masse Damper (TMD) and they are efficient for a narrow frequency band. But, when they are excited with high forces, in the nonlinear regime, they are efficient for a wider frequency band if the nonlinear terms are activated. First, an experimental study about the nonlinear behavior of a modified Helmholtz Resonator was done. Then, the governing equation of such resonators were developed considering the nonlinearities in the restitution force and damping. An approximation of the analytical solution of the governing equation of the acoustical resonator is derived using the multiples scales of time method and the non-smooth time transformation method. In a second part, a study about the coupling between an acoustic mode in low frequencies and a resonator (the one studied in the previous part) with a nonlinear behavior is done. In order to do this, experimental measurements of the coupled system to confirm acoustic attenuation by the resonator in forced and free regime were done. Then, an analytical modelling of the coupled system allowed to derive the expression of the Slow Invariant Manifold (SIM), in order to identify the possible equilibrium points and singular points of the system. Derived analytical models were verified by numerical simulations

Full textRecent research on high-temperature superconductors (HTS) has led to the development of planar resonators with a very high quality factor in the low microwave range (some GHz). Such resonators, associated with an amplification circuit, make it possible to produce microwave sources of high spectral purity (or low phase noise). Indeed, quality factors of 300 000 could be demonstrated on these resonators around 1 GHz. However, prior to this thesis work, no oscillator with HTS resonator had been able to include an amplification system that had also been cooled. We began our work by a fine characterization at low temperature of the components constituting the oscillation loop: the resonator, the transistor (amplifier) ??and the varactor (phase control). Accurate characterization of different superconducting resonators has been performed over a wide temperature range and at different RF power levels. This work allowed us to extract a non-linear model of the resonator that can be used in a 1 GHz circuit design. As regards the amplifier, different transistors have been tested with respect to their phase noise and gain performance at 1 GHz and 80 K (and then 60 K thereafter). Following these measurements, a component was selected and modeled. The transistor model, extracted from the I(V) and low temperature S parameters, includes noise sources to simulate the residual phase noise of the transistor (1/f component and noise floor). Using this model, a low noise phase cryogenic amplifier could be designed and noise optimized on the Keysight ADS software. Similar work has been done on varactor diodes to include a frequency tuning circuit for the oscillator to allow frequency lock on an external reference. Finally, using these models, an all cryogenic oscillator could be simulated and realized in hybrid technology on alumina. To our knowledge, this is the first entirely cryogenic oscillator with HTS resonator. This circuit was measured by advanced metrology techniques and the results are presented in the thesis

Full textInertials sensors based on atom interferometry use cold atom clouds cooled to micro-Kelvin temperatures and interrogation times of a few hundred of milliseconds. These conditions lead to an expansion of the atom clouds reaching centimetric sizes, which leads to difficulties when trying to adress them efficiently with gaussian laser beams. This work aims at developing different means to counteract the constraints brought by these gaussian beams and their limited intensity. Two main axes are explored. On the one hand, the intensity inhomogeneity of the interrogation beams has been adressed by the study, realisation and characterization of beamshaping solutions. One of these solutions has been adapted to an atom interferometry experiment, and its impact characterized. On the other hand, the current use of gaussian beams with centimetric sizes to interrogate as many atoms as possible brings constraints on the laser power. The idea of taking advantage of the optical gain of optical resonators rises in the field and constitutes the heart of this work.Different optical resonators concepts have been considered to allow the resonance of a large optical mode in a compact geometry. We built a degenerated optical resonator, with an intra-cavity lens, and studied the influence of misalignments and opticals defects on the resonance of large injected gaussian beams. These two devices and their combination open the way towards a generation of advanced atom interferometers, for precise experiments of fundamental physics or the development of compact cold atom inertial sensors
