Abstract:
The creation of learning outcomes inside and outside of the classroom on college campuses has been a growing trend based on a variety of publications which encouraged the fostering of diverse types learning and the measurement of student learning outside of the classroom (ACPA, 1994; Keeling, 2004). The creation of the learning outcomes is a positive step, however, assessment of the learning outcomes must be conducted to determine what students are learning and what areas are to be improved otherwise the learning outcomes are meaningless. This study was conducted at a large public research university where the Department of Housing and Residential Education had recently identified its Residential Learning Outcomes. Consequentially an assessment of the over attainment of the Residential Learning Outcomes, the impact the number of years a student resided on campus had on the attainment of the Residential Learning Outcomes and the impact the number of years a student was enrolled at the institution had on the attainment of the Residential Learning Outcomes may be useful to the university and the wider body of knowledge about residential education. Using targeted questions from the CSEQ the study found that there were significant levels of achievement for residential students for six of the seven Residential Learning Outcomes especially when isolating the Quality of Effort scales. When evaluating the number of years a student has been enrolled, however, no relationship was found.

Generally, an aim of the study was to establish the level of segregation among the students in the dining hall and to attempt to understand the motivations that establish and maintain such patterns. Students' level of intergroup contact and interracial attitudes were among the factors investigated for such motivations. With this, a further aim of the study was to establish whether the patterns observed were also patterns of friendship. If this were so, then a further aim of the study was to investigate the determinants of friendship for these students, generally, in order to ascertain the level of importance of race among such determinants. The analysis was focused around 10 specific objectives.

Gatehouse, Hazel A. W. "Ecology of the naturalisation and geographic distribution of the non-indigenous seed plant species of New Zealand." Diss., Lincoln University, 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/10182/1009.

Full text
Abstract:
The naturalisation and subsequent spread of non-indigenous plant species (NIPS) is a major problem for most regions of the world. Managing plant invasions requires greater understanding of factors that determine initial naturalisation and distribution of wild NIPS. By the year 2000, 2252 NIPS were recorded as wild (1773 fully naturalised and 479 casual) in New Zealand. From published literature and electronic herbaria records, I recorded year of discovery of wild populations, and regional distribution of these wild NIPS. I also recorded species related attributes hypothesised to affect naturalisation and/or distribution, including global trade, human activities, native range and biological data; and regional attributes hypothesised to affect distribution, including human population densities, land use/cover, and environmental data. I used interval-censored time-to-event analyses to estimate year of naturalisation from discovery records, then analysed the importance of historical, human activity, biogeographical and biological attributes in determining patterns of naturalisation. Typically, NIPS that naturalised earlier were herbaceous, utilitarian species that were also accidentally introduced and/or distributed, with a wide native range that included Eurasia, naturalised elsewhere, with a native congener in New Zealand. In the year 2000, 28% of wild NIPS occupied only one region, 18% occupied two regions, decreasing incrementally to 2.5 % for nine regions, but with 13.5% occupying all ten regions. I used generalised linear models (GLMs) with binomial distribution to determine predictors of whether a wild NIPS occupied ten regions or not, and GLMs with Poisson distribution for wild NIPS occupying 0 – 9 regions. As expected, the dominant effect was that species discovered earlier occupied more regions. Utilitarian wild NIPS that were also accidentally introduced and/or distributed, and wild NIPS with a native congener tended to be more widely distributed, but results for other attributes varied between datasets. Although numbers of wild NIPS recorded in regions of New Zealand were sometimes similar, composition of wild NIPS was often very different. I used nonmetric multidimensional scaling (NMDS) to determine dissimilarity in composition between regions. Then, after reducing correlation between predictor variables using principal components analyses (PCAs), I tested the importance of regional variables in determining the regional composition of wild NIPS using metaMDS. The density of human populations best explained the dissimilarity in composition, but temperature gradients and water availability gradients were also important. In the year 2000 more than 1100 (60%) of the 1773 fully naturalised NIPS in mainland New Zealand had each been recorded in Northland/Auckland and Canterbury, and at the other end of the scale, Southland and Westland each had fewer than 500 (30%). I used GLMs to analyse the importance of people and environment in determining the numbers of wild NIPS in each region. Because I conducted multiple tests on the same dataset I used sequential Bonferroni procedures to adjust the critical P-value. Only human population density was important in explaining the numbers of NIPS in the regions. Overall, humans were the dominant drivers in determining the patterns of naturalisation and spread, although environment helps determine the composition of NIPS in regions. Incorporating human associated factors into studies of wild NIPS helps improve the understanding of the stages in the naturalisation and spread process.

Abstract:
Objective: To examine systematically the literature on the effect of geographical location variation on breast cancer stage at diagnosis, race/ethnicity, and socioeconomic status. Methods. Eight electronic databases were searched using combination of key words. Of the 312 articles retrieved from the search, 36 studies from 12 countries were considered eligible for inclusion. Results. This review identified 17 (47%) of 36 studies in which breast cancer patients residing in geographically remote/rural areas had more late-stage diagnosis than urban women. Ten (28%) studies reported higher proportions of women diagnosed with breast cancer resided in urban than rural counties. Nine (25%) studies reported no statistically significant association between place of residence and stage at diagnosis for breast cancer patients residing in rural and urban areas. Conclusions. Cancer patients residing in rural and disadvantaged areas were more likely to be diagnosed with distant breast metastasis. Efforts to reduce these inequalities and subsequent mortality are needed.

Chang, Chih-Yao. "Resident Attitudes toward Community Development Alternatives." DigitalCommons@USU, 2010. https://digitalcommons.usu.edu/etd/622.

Full text
Abstract:
Utilizing survey data collected in four communities in the State of Utah, this study examined the extent to which rural resident perceptions and attitudes toward local community circumstances influence their own expectations and attitudes subjectively toward future community development alternatives. Understanding perceptions of community and community development, as well as the patterns of localized community development, is crucial and needs to consider residents' opinions and attitudes toward unique rural economic, environmental, and social conditions in order to help preserve the unique characteristics of the way of life while continuing economic improvement and social betterment in rural areas. Three conceptual frameworks of development (economic, environmental, and social) are applied in this study to explore the relationship between local residents' general attitudes toward the current conditions in their community and their attitudes toward development alternatives. I examine how these three development frameworks guide rural scholars to understand whether the pattern of community development is consistent across the region or localized from community to community. Four different types of rural communities were selected in a Utah-wide community survey in the summer of 2008. These communities are facing four different change patterns: an increasing senior community, an energy-development community, a recreational community, and a constant community that has remained stable over the last five decades. Each type of community has its unique economy, lifestyle, culture, and environment, in which local residents have developed a way of life in response to these changes in social and economic structures. Research findings indicate that the local residents' self-perceptions of community economic situation are not significant indictors to support the arguments of the economic development framework. However, indexes of environmental and social development frameworks are found to have strong associations with locals' environmental and social development alternatives. Also, different types of rural community show different demands for community development strategies, implying that a single development framework would not be sufficient to explain the complex of local residents' perceptions and attitudes toward community development unless the researchers integrate other perspectives into the model.

A substantial body of literature has examined teacher induction programs. Previous research has highlighted program characteristics, associated activities, and the impact on issues such as retention and student achievement. However, little research has examined the potential for induction activities to go beyond meeting the most basic short-term needs of novices and instead create the meaningful learning opportunities that lead to sustained growth. Drawing on semi-structured interviews, observations, and document analysis, this multi-case study describes the induction experiences of five second-year middle-grades STEM teachers prepared in an urban teacher residency program. Participants completed a two-year induction program, during which they received induction support from their school, district, and residency program. This research describes the induction supports (e.g., mentoring, professional development, formal induction course, and action research group) available to the participants and the utility ascribed to each of these supports by the teachers. Using Cochran-Smith and Lytle’s theories of teacher learning (1999; 2001) as the theoretical framework, the research examines how induction supports facilitate pathways to teacher learning. Additionally, this framework serves to identity how different induction supports position teachers along the continuum from users to generators of knowledge. The individual cases underscore that participants had access to induction supports that created opportunities for them to be users, co-creators, and generators of knowledge. The participants did report some appreciation for these latter approaches and a positive impact on their practice and growth; however, the participants ultimately favored supports that were more prescriptive. While these supports did not necessarily contribute to their growth, they met their needs at the time and, ultimately, that is what mattered most.

SUMMARY In this research, we investigate the methodology of designing crime prevention security resident. We analysed the cause of offense occurring in the light of criminal psychology and CPTED (crime prevention through environment design) as well as generalized more insight on the main problems of residential burglary in Taiwan via reviewing the domestic laws and regulations and visiting the police officers. As reference, the methodologies of designing security environment adopted in Japan and other regions are also studied. Moreover, fieldwork in Tainan and Kaohsiung is done and the potential problems and recommendations are provided. Finally, we propose a unified planning principle for housing design, collective housing design, and the applying of anti-theft building materials. We believe the proposed planning principle could effectively facilitate the security design and building material selection for planners, designers and consumers. Key words: crime prevention through environment design、anti-theft、anti-theft building materials、residential burglary INTRODUCTION According to the study made by National Police Agency, although the number of burglaries in Taiwan has a yearly decreasing trend, the ratio of in-building is keep increasing. This observation reveals the neglect of crime prevention building design in our country, which leads to a weakness of crime prevention. In this research, we investigate the cause and improvement recommendation of the high risk space of crime prevention. We propose the following approaches to reduce the probability of crime: 1. Natural surveillance. 2. Territorial Reinforcement. 3. Physical security. 4. Access control. 5. Establishing good community image. MATERIALS AND METHODS We prevent the crime via the design of environment planning based on the theoretic background of CPTED. We reduce the motivation of offense by increasing the difficulty of invasion and the psychological stress of potential criminals by adopting the following approaches: 1. Natural surveillance. Natural surveillance limits the opportunity for crime by taking steps to increase the perception that people can be seen. 2. Territorial Reinforcement. Territorial reinforcement promotes social control through increased definition of space and improved proprietary concern. 3. Physical security. Maintenance is an expression of ownership of property. 4. Access control. Access control limits the opportunity for crime by taking steps to clearly differentiate between public space and private space. 5. Establishing good community image. Having a positive image in the community shows a sense of pride and self-worth that no one can take away from the owner of the property. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION According to the information obtained through interviews of police officers, besides the doors, windows, and balconies, the transoms and preserved holes for air condition are also the high risk area of theft invasion in Taiwan. Additionally, new housings are also a frequent target of theft, due to the facts that there are often high-valued furniture and objects in new housings as well as the lack of natural surveillance since there are relatively few residents in new communities and the strangers are more difficult to be distinguished. Consequently, for the purpose of anti-theft, the building design with advance theft prevention before the migrating of residents is important. On the other hand, from the related literatures, we also observed that crime-prevention is highly emphasized in Japan. The planning and design for crime-prevention in Japan include utilizing of land, planning of public space, and the related working items of administration. Moreover, they also establish CP (Crime Prevention) mark as the reference of the selection and purchase of the anti-theft building materials. Based on the information collection and study from interviewing the police officers, surveying related literatures of Japan, and fieldwork in Tainan and Kaohsiung, we propose a unified planning principle for housing design, collective housing design, and the applying of anti-theft building materials. Based on the proposed planning principle, we also propose the form of security review assessment for evaluating the security level of housing or collective housing. The forms provide evaluation standards focusing on the high risk spaces of theft invasion. The evaluated items include the keeping of visual permeability, the ensuring of illumination, the control of entrance and exit, the adoption of security maintenance devices, and the robustness of lock, door, and windows. More matched evaluated items reflect a better security level. Conversely, the security level can also be further consummated by improving the evaluated items that are failed to be confirmed. Furthermore, to facilitate the effective applying of the anti-theft building materials by users, planners, and designers, we also organized a list for providing clear instructions of the usages of a variety of anti-theft building materials. CONCLUSION The complete crime prevention design procedure should include three parts: design and planning, further enhancement based on user use, and facility maintenance. At first, crime prevention should be regarded as a main consideration of space planning. Then, the facilities should be further adjusted or enhanced according to the modification of space and building. Finally, regular check and repairment are required to maintain the security facilities.

Ever since 2010, Taiwan has entered an aging society. The retiring and the retired population are increasing. Nevertheless, the residential design nowadays cannot completely meet the living requirements for retired individuals. Yet, the demand of such residential design on the market is eagerly desired. Therefore, this research is based on friendly retirement residence as its topic. The main objective of this research is to explore the human and psychological needs of retirement residences, to analyze the characteristics of single-storey residences, multi-storey residences, as well as town houses, and to summarize the retirement friendly residential priorities. This research is based on document analysis, case studies, and in-depth interviews. The first step of this research is collecting relevant documents to summarize the human and psychological needs of retirement residents; then, analyze and compare basic information, needs of property owners, design concepts, and actual designs of 6 different individual cases assessed through questionnaires and interviews. The results showed that the elements of human and psychological needs of retired residents include: safety/convenience, coziness/memory, greening/environmental protection, and family gathering. Single-storey, multi-storey, and town house characteristics correspond to the different needs for the retired residents. Single-storey features no stairs which facilitates mobility for senior citizens. Town houses are convenient for multi-generation families; each generation have their own personal space. Multi-storey reduces the number of staircases which can relieve the pressure of going up and down the stairs for senior citizens while keeping the multi-generation living style. The overall research found that the friendly retirement residential design should be practical, safe, humanizing, and sensational. Based on what is discussed above, this research utilizes 6 case studies -vfor verification.

Taiwan environment spreads out different construction type by facing with the urbanization, the population, the science and technology impact. Speaking of the demand surface, it changes the aspiration of quantity to promotion of quality. But the metropolis plan and the performance history relations, all take "the efficiency", "the scale", "the combination" as the pursue, instead has neglected the basic request of Taiwan geography characteristic, so that we just can able to rely on the air-conditioning equipment to maintain a livelihood comfortableness as fundamental. . However the equipment massive uses, cause the environment which we lives to suffer a bigger destruction. Therefore this research believed that uses the natural basic resources to meet the basic active need, if because the regional difference is different, reuses the limited resources to promote its life quality, its goal lies in relaxes the earth resource exhaustion, and the improvement living conditions by takes the ultimate objective. Speaking of the Taiwan geography and various regions, in order to achieve idealistic living environment, after considering natural conditions such as typhoons and earthquakes, which have already been thoroughly emphasized in the structure and in the safety point of view, as far as space planning and design are concerned, are there only the three basic conditions (1. the monsoon during summer and winter seasons; 2. the sunshine during these two seasons; 3. the sunshine on the west side) to be paid attention to? In fact, there are no explicitly countermeasure to the cognition of high temperature, high humidity, and dust level. In other words, this paper attempts to explain indoor environment under the different region and structure. But from an architectural planning approach, we attempt to analyze the relative change of the bio-temperature to outdoor temperature and humidity on daily basis. We use time as a factor to represent the relationship between phenomenon and position, and basing on this and the air conditioning equipment. After using the air conditioning, the indoor environment can have its common traits and the difference because of the above condition? What influence of indoor temperature and humidity by the air conditioning? Therefore, this research utilizes the inhabitant who uses air conditioning equipment from the north, center, and the south region of Taiwan for investigation object. It analyzes various spaces to produce the air conditioning the temperature and humidity change correlative of use behavior to affect penetrating through building size, temperature and humidity measuring instrument (three days) actual survey.

Keelung Yen Family is one of the five famous families in Taiwan. Yen Family has deeply impacted Taiwan coal mining industry. They are the only one who were based on the industry development in the five families and became the “king of black gold”in Taiwan. In 1621, Shi-Chi Yen (顏思齊)led people to the area of Yunlin Bei-gan and Chayi Hsin-Gan for land reclamation, but they went back to Fujeng An-xi in the end because it was hard to make a living there. In 1795, How-Tow Yen(顏浩妥) led his sons and nephews to Taiwan again, but they returned to their hometown in the same year. Until 1807, the Yen brothers, Yu-Lan Yen and Yu-Xi Yen(顏玉蘭、玉賜), led their sons and nephews to the central part of Taiwan to develop their business. Then, they moved up to the northern part and settled down in Keelung Nuan-nuan. As the family separated, Do-Mon, the second son of Yu-Lan, and Do-Bor, the third son of Yu-Xi, moved to Keelung Jue-fun together. They bought Shi-chow land, and built “Fulongju” (福隆居). After they found sand gold around there, they developed their business on coal and gold mining. Therefore, the Yen family has a close relationship and development with "Fulongju". As a member of the Yen family, it is a good start to do the research on "Fulongju" to know much more of the Yen family history and their phylogeny. The study would also make people be aware of the Yen family, and how the Yen family becomes the first family of mining history in Taiwan. According to the aforementioned, the theme of the research is focused on the important architectures left from the Keelung Yen Family, and the paper goes to discuss the migratory history of the Yen Family and its developmental process from the Qing Dynasty, the Japanese Colonial Period to the Postwar Period. The main contents of the research are as following: 1. By means of historical documents in different periods, understanding where the Keelung Yen Family had lived and its developmental process of managing the family industry from the Qing Dynasty, the Japanese Colonial Period to the Postwar Period. 2. The key period when the Yen Family enterd the mining industry is the Japanese Colonial Period, and they lived in Ruifang at the time. In the 5th year of Tongzhi Emperor(1866), Yen Zheng-Chun(顏正春) built the ‘Fulongju’(福隆居), where became the crucial rising place of the Yen Family. To extrapolate the scale and appearance of the ancestral residence by field investigation and analysis. Expect to have basic information as references on repairs and investigation of the Yen Family’s ancestral residence in the future. 3. The Yen Family left their ancestral residence and moved to other places successively because of industrial development. And then, in the 8th year of Taisho(1919), Kimura Kyutaro(木村久太郎) sold his Japanese-style mansion in Keelung to Yen Yun-Nien(顏雲年). The mansion was subsequently built and named ‘Lou Yuan’(陋園), Keelung Yen Family’s Mansion. By means of historical materials and old pictures, the paper goes to revive the scale and changes of the Keelung Yen Family’s ‘Lou Yuan’(陋園).

Water sources are one of the location conditions for land cultivation and safe inhabitation, and residing next to mountains and water is a geographical commonality for Hakka residential selection at early stages. The Dajia River Basin is one of the important water sources for Taichung County and in the Hakka history of immigration and development; it has guided the direction of cultivation for immigrants. To Hakka people, the meaning of the Dajia River Basin is not only as a vision of residential Feng-Shui or function of living access and irrigation, but as a channel of external connection of transportation and delivery of economical crops. In the course of land cultivation by Hakka ancestors on Dajia River Basin, Mr. Chang, Dajing signed a contract with Pan, A-dun - local officer of An-Li Community from c. 1664 to 1734 for land acquisition by means of “transfer of land in exchange of water”. Subsequently, the “Six Households” signed a joint contract with An-Li Community for canal construction and irrigation, which set the foundation for Hakka people immigrating to Taichung area for land cultivation. After that, Hakka people reclaimed lands along the river and established “Hakka villages” along the line starting from Shengang, Fongyuan, Tanzi, Shihgang, Dongshih and ending at Shinshe. During this stage, the Hakka’s enjoined in a battle for survival with the Pingpu Tribe, Atayal Tribe and Holuo people in weapons combat whilst looking for living space to settle down. By facing the new geographical environment, adapting and inspiring cultural change and with a background of cultural assimilation and modernization, it was a significant verification for the Hakka people of Dajia River Basin to express their original culture with insistent and unique methods via residential buildings. In addition to practically showing features of their original homelands and concepts of Feng-Shui in its architectural elements and layout, the greatest feature of Hakka residences is the combination between local geography and natural conditions of climate. The common features for traditional Hakka residences in Dajia River Basin and original homelands are the group living, order and co-existence of public and private affairs, which reveals the traditional spirit of focusing on blood relationships and worshipping the ancestors. The combination of surrounding house and ancestral shrine expressed the Hakka tradition of respecting their ancestors. In terms of flat layout and space combination, it also complies with traditional Hakka requirements of courtesy in family orders and household classification. At the same time, the defense of surrounding house in the original homeland was more important than living practicalities while the traditional Hakka residence in Dajia River Basin focuses more on living practicalities than defense. This represents the historical background for Hakka people on defense to external threats or living style, as well as influence created from village environment and cultural features belonging to local Hakka people.

Both sides of the criminal procedure law have restrictions on the criminal suspects or defendants. In Taiwan, the detention system is separate from the arrest and detention. Regarding the relationship between detention and arrest and arrest, the criminal suspect’s custody must be detained first. The procedure for mentioning or arresting can be carried out, generally referred to as the pre-arrest principle; alternatives to custody have restrictions on residence, insurance and blame. On the mainland, it is a situation of custody and seizure. Custody is not an independent compulsory punishment, but the state and effect of the continuation after detention and arrest. Once detained or arrested, of course, it is in custody, so there is no so-called independence. The custody of the elements, procedures, periods or relief mechanisms, while monitoring residence is an alternative to custody. In Taiwan, there are some restrictions on the practice of restricting residence. The mainland also has regulations similar to restricting residence. The news about surveillance and residence is also endless, which has led to the interest of this article in this topic. Taiwan’s alternative method of restricting residence and detention is the same as that of insurance and liability. It is a substitute for the detention without the need for detention. The mainland is called surveillance residence. Although the names of the two are different, their meaning is different. the same. However, the surveillance of the mainland, in terms of restrictions on residence, is more restrictive than Taiwan’s restrictions. This article wants to clarify the meaning and function of restricting residence, introduce the system and lack of restrictions on exit, and explore the related issues of restricting residence from a comparative perspective, from the mainland to monitor the relevant provisions of residence, compare and analyze the advantages and disadvantages of the system, try to limit the future of China If you live in an electronic monitoring aid, you can use the materials and finally propose reforms to restrict the residence of the legal system in Taiwan.

The cultural diversification viewpoint elaborates during the development of globalized artistic exchange and communication, through the mechanism of international “artist-in-residence” to transmit art diversification concept’s value on artistic mutual exchange and equal learning. We wonder in Taiwan whether art communities that carry out the international “artist-in-residence” projects were able to meet the meaning of artist’s resident creation and if such art communities can utilize art communities’ rich and diversified individual characteristics to fairly accomplish cultural art’s vision during artist residencies. Therefore, stressing on artistic mutual exchange and equal learning, accepting artists’ different culture and artistic background, and highlighting the exchange and learning experiences among different cultures and arts has become important challenges for carrying out international “artist-in-residence” projects in the future. Besides, since 2000 while implementing and promoting the international “artist-in-residence” projects, during the process what kind of role that Taiwan government or art communities played in art communes and artist workshops? This study discussed the international “artist-in-residence” projects in east Taiwan and analyzed the relationships between the operation of HweiLan International Artists Workshop and the issue of artist mutual exchange and equal learning. The main research strategy adopted Hweilan International Artists Workshop as the case study object, researchers as the research tool, and used more than one multi-data collection methods, such as Documentary Evidences, Participants Observations, by taking the notes, videos, films, and photographs to increase the completeness and sufficiency of the record, and the Interview Method, to fully understand the real situation of such art activities. The research had been concluded that during an international “artist-in-residence”, if the art environment valued more on personal achievements, the environment would cease the conversation of equal learning, while, on the contrary, pressing more emphasizes on artist mutual exchange would continue the conversation of equal learning. Moreover, if residing artists were requested to achieve a preset standpoint and goal, the opportunities of mutual exchange would be reduced. But when there was no preset standpoint or goal, and artists were not asked to accompany anything, such environment would increase chances of artist mutual exchange. If the project coordinator paid attention on the fairness of activity facilities, allowed for unfair exchange, and had to meet art market’s need or higher management’s requests, then the project would stray from the direction of support and help. However, while there was no need to meet art market’s needs or higher management’s requests, the condition would enhance the attitude of support and help. Also, artists’ voluntarily input and affection input would enhance overall quality of the residency program; without artists’ input, the quality would be minimized.

Residence is one of preliminary demand, because private home is expensive goods, many people need assistance of government to satisfy lowest level of demand for residence, and solve the problem of residence. Besides, to satisfy the demand of residence is the principal goal of residence policy. Tax subsidy play a leading role in residence policy, for the purpose of releasing the burden of owner of private home ground, current tax law adopts some exempt on land value increment tax, including 10% favorable tax rate once for lifetime specified in article 34 of land tax law (abbreviated Land§34) and article 41 of fair land regulation (abbreviated F§41) and refund for repurchasing specified in article 35 of land tax law(abbreviated Land§35)and article 44 of fair land regulation (abbreviated F§44). As time goes by, present regulation seems improper. In the viewpoint of tax revenue: overuse of expenditure and reduction of tax revenue. In the viewpoint of equality: vertical and horizontal inequality of income allocation. In the viewpoint of taxation effect: twist of neutrality of taxation and deadweight loss of resource. In the viewpoint of taxation cost: because of the abundance of interpretation, both sides frequently argue. To prevent reduction of tax revenue, fairly distribute income, effectively allocate resource and simplify taxation, this research is to study following topic by questionnaire investigation:(1) in the viewpoint of tax revenue, whether current tax exempt on land value increment tax on transfer of private home ground will affect tax revenue significantly? (2) In the viewpoint of equality, whether current tax exempt on land value increment tax on transfer of private home ground will make inequality of income allocation? (3) In the viewpoint of economic efficiency, whether current tax exempt on land value increment tax on transfer of private home ground will affect allocation of resource? (4) In the viewpoint of taxation practice, whether current tax exempt on land value increment tax on transfer of private home ground will increase taxation cost? This research refer relevant literature to form research design, then execute questionnaire investigation toward tax collector, taxpayer and land registration agent, and analyze effective questionnaire by description statistics, ANOVA, scheffe test, t test and chi test. Finally, to conclude based empirical outcome: (1) In the viewpoint of tax revenue, current taxes exempt on land value increment tax on transfer of private home ground affect tax revenue significantly. A. Present tax-exempt (10% favorable tax rate once for lifetime and refund for repurchasing) is too favorable to reduce tax revenue. B. The limitation of area of private home ground is too favorable in present tax law to reduce tax revenue. C. Present tax law didn''t regulate numbers of application of 10% favorable tax rate on land value increment tax on transfer of private home ground, and reduce tax revenue. D. Present refund for repurchasing has no restriction on numbers of times, and reduces tax revenue. (2) In the viewpoint of equality, current tax exempt on land value increment tax on transfer of private home ground will form inequality of income allocation. A. Present regulation on limitation of area is improper, and become inequality to people of lower income. B. Present tax didn''t regulate numbers of application of 10% favorable tax rate on land value increment tax on transfer of private home ground, and become inequality of application of 10% favorable tax rate by people of high income. C. Present refund for repurchasing has no restriction on times of application, and people of high income is able to take advantage of refund repeatedly. (3) In the viewpoint of economic efficiency, present tax exempt on land value increment tax on the transfer of private home ground will affect efficiency of resource allocation. A. Tax exempt on sale of private home ground will change the will of individual to purchase private home ground. B. Present tax law (10%favorable tax rate once for lifetime and refund for repurchasing) regulate not for rent or operation one year before sale, be apt to reduce efficiency of use of land. C. Refund for repurchasing of private home ground stimulates purchase of bigger house, and increase quality of living. (4) In the viewpoint of taxation practice, current tax exempt on land value increment tax on transfer of private home ground will increase taxation cost. A. Present tax law regulates not for rent or operation of private home ground one year before sale, and is apt to be argued, and increase taxation cost. B. It should be limited on period of application to avoid taxation burden. C. The repurchased land should be restricted on its use or transfer within five years to avoid speculation.

The purpose of this research is to discuss the residents’ satisfaction toward the reconstruction of the houses after urban renewing. This research is based on the stand of consumer behavior. It discusses relativity of intention in consumer behavior and residents’ satisfaction. According to the resources of this paper, the factors affecting the residents’ satisfaction are: residential features, customer values, customer service and etc. With the three main factors are 10 other minor factors that correlate with each other. Through the Post Occupancy Evaluation, the factors affecting the resident satisfaction will be put in quantitative statistics for further in-depth analysis. The results show that in the urban renewed areas, whether it being new tenants that have been staying for less than 5 years or old tenants that have lived for more than 30 years, it is the local residents that majorly live here. Moreover, the urban renewing of the resident is considered one of the factors under consideration to new or old owners. The most important factors that increases the resident satisfaction are distance from resident to the school, lighting inside the resident, parking spaces provided. As for customer value, the improvement on environment landscape and the promoting of healthy life living also upgrades the value. The surging price of the real estate is a crucial factor for the residents’ estate value to increase, which also produces residents’ satisfaction. With regards to customer service, the longer the stay of a resident in a urban renewed area, the higher satisfaction is given to the service provided. This research proves that residential features, customer value and customer service result in high positive connection in resident satisfaction. This research is a reference for both the public and private sectors related to urban planning and development. In the near future, this research can be a reference for policy-makers before implementing any renewal projects.

Since the industrial revolution, we have been consuming large natural resources, because people in order to economic development under the Force, began to compete with nature, so that today's global climate anomalies, the melting of the polar ice sheet salt desalination of the sea, resulting in drought and constantly, affecting the living rights of biological and human food crisis. In modern residential building and urban planning, the good natural ecological environment and human survival, for the current construction and urban planning important work。 In this study, to "Village-type Community", "urban-type community", "suburban-type community" and "urban apartment-type community" and other four types of community, import Green Building evaluation manual - Community class(EEWH-EC) for evaluation and analysis, The paper analyzes the advantages and disadvantages of the four types of community in the Green Building evaluation manual – Community class(EEWH- EC) , so that the future architecture and urban planners have a reference。 1. Village-based communities performed best on the whole, but had the worst performance on the "community function" category and performed best on the "eco-friendly" and "health and comfort" categories. 2. The performance of suburban communities was the poorest. After the assessment, the suburban communities ranked the worst in the "community function" category among the other three categories of community in the area of "law and order maintenance", but the scores in the category of "health and comfort" were the lowest In rural communities. 3. The overall score of the urban community is similar to that of the urban apartment-type community, both of which perform better in the "community function" category. Overall analysis of good environment Ecological community and green area, the number and type of trees is directly proportional to the water retention at the site. The green area and water permeable paving of grass and grass brick are related to the evaluation scores of "ecological category" and "health comfort category". Today, more than half of the world's population lives in urban areas. Urban areas, which consume up to 75% of the world’s energy, are the largest source of carbon emissions, which is a very heavy burden on the environment. Reduction of carbon emissions has become an essential part of urban planning in the twenty first century. Major countries in the world have had plans to save energy and reduce greenhouse gas emission for sustainable development. In order to reduce carbon emissions for a sustainable low-carbon city, developing a green industry has been the most important and innovative idea. As "low carbon emissions" has become the goal of many cities, emulating the experiences of low-carbon cities abroad to transform traditional urban city to a low-carbon city for sustainable urban development is a subject worth exploring in Taiwan. In recent years, practices such as using green plants to absorb carbon dioxide and water for photosynthesis are quite popular in the construction industry. Promotion of urban greening and green buildings are all in efforts to reduce carbon. The so-called CO2 Consumption Index indicates the amount of "CO2 absorption by plants", used for architecture greening design in open spaces, balconies, roofs, and walls. The purpose of the index is to produce oxygen, absorb carbon dioxide and generate clean air, and then to reduce urban heat, improve the eco-system and beautify the environment. This study is to evaluate "CO2 Consumption Index", one of the measures of the green building ecological index. By exploring the gap between the standard requirement of the Index and the current status of CO2 consumption of green design in high-class residential atrium in Kaohsiung City, this will help us improve green architecture. The main research methods include literature review and field study. Based on the study of CO2 Consumption Index and relevant literature, the research used case study to evaluate the current CO2 consumption of plants.

The population of the elder exceeds 10% in 2007, in which we can learn the fast growing. Project of promote nongovernmental participation brought up by DOI encouraged to invest constructions but allocated the Social Security resource into two extremities. To put it differently, it benefited the elders with low income and high income; however, most elders with middle income could not share the welfare. Obviously, it lost the justice. At present, the implement of the project had encountered problem and already stopped trial. As a result, it is necessary to review the promoting project and housing policy. This research takes the examples of the aged residence conducted. Using in-depth interview, analyzing intersection effect from three fields — folks, government, and academia, it has a thorough exploration based on government and private resources, relative systems, active policies and laws. Important discoveries in this research are as follows, 1.The folks have already invested in aged residence industry, but their principle is to make profits, instead of eldercare of Social Security. 2.The potential market of aged residence is large in the future. It is better to provide various choices of house types. Suggestion to governments 1.To review the supply-demand system of aged residence all over again. 2.To subsume aged residence into the strategy of housing. 3.Contribute more inspiring advantage to raise non-government participation. 4.To develop the aged residence community by urban regeneration. Suggestion to non-government 1.Brand-new service model is more important than hardware facilities. 2.To get the transferring service system healthy and thinking the whole eldercare life circle. Coleman, Anthony M. "Determining the relationship between measured residence time distributions in lateral surface transient storage zones in streams and corresponding physical characteristics." Thesis, 2012. http://hdl.handle.net/1957/35099.

Full text
Abstract:
Surface transient storage (STS) in stream ecosystems serve an important function in retaining nutrients and refugia for aquatic communities. Unfortunately, they can retain contaminants as well. Therefore, it is of importance to determine the residence time distribution (RTD). A RTD of a particular STS zone encompasses the time it takes for the first pulse of water to leave the STS zone, and for the mean residence time of water in that zone, among other things. The RTD of STS is also useful to subtract from the RTD of the total transient storage in streams in order to determine the hyporheic transient storage (HTS) of streams, which is difficult to measure. Currently, there is no definitive method of determining the RTD of STS. They have been determined with tracer injection alone, though this is time consuming and subject to interference from HTS. A relationship between STS physical characteristics and a RTD would be desirable, as this would characterize the time of entrainment of STS based upon a few easily measured physical parameters. This exists for groyne fields and flumes, which both have artificial STS. However, direct application of these equations to natural STS leads to errors due to simplistic geometries. The focus of this study determines RTDs in lateral STS, which is adjacent to the main channel of a stream and a significant proportion of STS, and its relationship to physically measurable parameters of lateral STS. Twenty sites throughout Oregon were each injected with NaCl to determine four residence timescales: Langmuir time ([subscript L]), negative inverse slope of the normalized concentration curve of the primary gyre ([subscript 1]), negative inverse slope of the normalized concentration curve of the entire STS zone ([subscript 2]), and the mean residence time ([subscript STS]). The RTDs of these sites were then compared to the length, width, and depth of each lateral STS zone, as well as the velocity of the adjacent main channel. This data also was used to calculate dimensionless parameters submergence, a measure of bed roughness, and k, a measure of exchange that relates STS to lateral STS and associated parameters. [subscript 1] was found to be identical to [subscript STS], and [subscript 2] could not be defined. [subscript STS] was found to be approximately 1.35 times [subscript L], the ratio of which ([subscript L]/[subscript STS]) is positively correlated with lateral STS submergence. [subscript L] and [subscript STS] are positively correlated with lateral STS parameters, and inversely correlated with main channel velocity. The value of k from this study was comparable to the value of k from other studies in flumes, and so there is a relationship between RTDs and lateral STS parameters.

Today, more than half of the world's people live in the city, whose energy use rate reaches 75%. It makes city become the largest source of carbon emissions and increases the environment's burden. Therefore, "carbon reduction" has become an important part of urban planning for the modern city. For Taiwan, how to plan a new low-carbon city with reference to many foreign cases, so as to achieve the goal of "sustainable development" is a topic issue for discussion. In this study, the green building index EEWH will be used as a research tool to assess the amount of carbon reduction on the atrium of buildings in Tainan, Taiwan, and to obtain the difference between the case and green building index to achieve better improvement. The "greening index" is based on "the plants' CO2 fixation effect" as the total amount control of greening. By green design for the open space, balcony, roof, wall of the construction produce oxygen and absorb carbon dioxide, and clean up the air. The purpose is to reduce the high temperature climate phenomenon in urban area, so as to improve the ecological environment and beautify the environment. The research method is the field investigation and record of greening rate of building atrium by referring to and analysing the historical documents. The main purpose of this study is to explore the amount of carbon reduction of the building atrium and compare with other cases. By taking into account the factors such as environment, building size, and the factors and methods of evaluation are discussed with reference to related literature, this study uses green indicators to calculate the amount of carbon reduction to assess. The results of the analysis will be used as a reference for building atrium landscape design. Keywords: Carbon reduction, Greenery index, EEWH, Green building index

Place or occasion, everyone is conscious of the occasions with his/her extraordinary and touching experiences from birth to maturity, in current life, or once in the past, and has a keen affinity with it. Affinities formed through such ways generate the source that an individual identifies with culture and place. As for occasion, it is rich of various kinds of experiences and phenomena, like association between an individual and site, landscape, time, or community. Image or evaluation comes from the degree we experience the occasion; as a result, the image of a place is manifested by this way. From the angle of the urban culture, art serves as the communicative medium between human and human/country. Besides, we can observe the tendency of modern art via artist-in-residence. We can also learn how the artist constructs multidimensional platform with frequent communication by artist-in-residence programme. Cultural communication has to be bi-directional, equal and interactive. Cross-culture allows citizens and artists in different countries have the opportunity for contact. They may go further to know, understand, and influence one another, learning how to respect the diversity in various cultures. Art can foster international communication, and is an excellent medium to stride over fence. This research focuses on the city image with artist-in-residence. By qualitative and quantitative approaches, the research content is categorized into three sections: 1. The artistic clusters in the city-- formation and changes of A.I.R. Taipei, the role of artist’s life in the art village, and the survey of the city image in the artist’s eyes. 2. Discuss representation of implication of creation by interviewing the artists. Besides, in the process of the artist as flaneur of urban space to breathe the air in Taipei and interact with Taipei, the relation between the artist’s work and the city image is verified. 3. How art village with communicative function integrates with urban space in Taipei for instilling local social culture into creative works and developing city image. This research canvasses the formation of city image with the artist’s creative content. Once a city possesses a good image, the residents can be proud of being part of it, identified with it, and go further to elevate the urban image of the city. Finally, according to the subjects, the research results and findings are proposed, and what needs to be improved and strengthened is also pointed out for the following studies in the future.

As far as when it has passed over to Taiwan, it still needs to be verified. “The Chai-hsing villa” is situated in No. 88, Sec. 2, Tanfu Rd., Dafeng Village, Tanzi Township, Taichung County, built by the Lin’s family ancestor, Lin, Qi-zhong during the reign of Emperor Guangxu in Tongzhi era of Ching Dynasty, which until today, it has history of two Jia Zi (a cycle of sixty years). It occupied land of about 0.8264 hectare, to be Taiwan’s typical courtyard house architecture with two entrances and multiple guarding dragons, splendid and rich decorative art is one of the features. Having complete in every line of brick carving, woodcarving, stone carving, colored drawing, calligraphy and painting, and Cochin ceramics, among which the Cochin ceramics works, other than its subject matter is special, its composition and works are also very outstanding, which occupied a very important position within the decoration of Vernacular Architecture in Taiwan. In the recent years, through the promotion by the local government, Cochin ceramics has gradually stood out conspicuously among the traditional art, but it is rare to see the related research records on Cochin ceramics. Therefore, this thesis would base on the research on Cochin ceramics of the Chai-hsing villa to attempt from a different viewpoint and discuss Cochin ceramics among the decorative art of Vernacular Architecture in Taiwan that its implication, craftsmanship, and the affect dig out the development on various aspects of economic, culture, society, education, and its value on preservation. The directions of research can be divided into two parts. First, the survey of literature information verifies the relationship of Taiwan Cochin ceramics and Japan Koji Yaki that rectifies the dispute of title. Second, for the filed trip of survey it can be surveyed in detail on the current preservation of Cochin ceramics in the Chai-hsing villa through different age level of craftsman in the area of Taiwan and Fu-Chien, and compared with Tsai’s style of works in the Chai-hsing villa. Finally, it proposes a construction process of Architecture Cochin ceramics and brings up an appropriate suggestion for the recovery from destruction.

The artistical decoration of brick carving has rarely been discussed in the traditional Taiwan architecture. Of actual cases of the traditional brick carving, those constructions in central Taiwan are the finest ones. Among them , Chai-Hsing Villa is especially characterised. Therefore, we have chosen it as the object of our investigational research. Due to the gradual downfall of brick carving architecture, the traditional craft has also declined and ceased to exist as well by and by.Thru research of brick carving forms and architectural crafts, this research aims to revaluate the position and value of brick carving in the traditional architecture, and to introduce the decoration culture of brick carving in Taiwan, and also tries to understand the influence of brick carving on the vernacular architecture in Taiwan, by studying means of application of brick carving. This research collects types of the existing brick carving in Chai-Hsing Villa, and analysis the signification of brick carving in vernacular architecture. The research also investigates records of brick carving of Chai-Hsing Villa, and simplifies them to study brick carving crafts, so that we can provide new development and keep brick carving from fading away with time.

The purpose of this study was to explore that which one among the perceptive crowding and characteristic experience to be the ideal social carrying capacity indicator on the traditional Chinese garden. The Lin Family Residence was chosen as the investigation site of the experimental research of this study. The process of this thesis was: collecting related literature based on the researching motive and intention in the first place, then tried to obtain a further knowledge about Chinesd garden''s characteristic and the concept of social carrying capacity in order to establish the study hypothesize and framework. On the experimental research, ite collected data required through questionaire and visitor counting at the Lin Family Residence----the traditional Taiwanese garden. The hypothesize was tested by statistic methods of frequency analysis, factor analysis, and ANOVA et al.. Finally, the conclusion and suggestion was noted according to the results. The outcomes of this study are summarized as follow: 1.On the Lin Family Residence, the principal factors affect the visitors'' perception of crowding are: sex, age, the number of identical groups, and visitor interference. 2.On the Lin Family Residence, the principal factors affect the visitors'' characteristic experience age: age, the number of visitors, visitor interference, satisfaction, and crowding. 3.On the traditional garden, the total score of characteristic experience value is a more sensitive and reasonable indicator of social carrying capacity. 4.BY ANOVA test, it was found that the characteristic experience value reached a higher score while the number of visitors was about 201 to 250 persons (counted once half an hour). In the process of this study, there was an idea taken in about the gradual transfer from the negative "Limits of Aceptable Change" (LAC) concept to the positive "offering a ideal experience under the permission of the environment" concept of recreational carrying capacity. In other word, negative indicator, such as perceptive crowding, would not be used but the positive indicator about visitors'' experience would be taken as the evaluation standard. I believe that this way will suggest a more reasonable evaluation process to match visitors'' needs. In addition, it was found in this study that the experience and satisfaction of visitors would be promoted directly by improving elegancy and interest wholly in the traditional garden.

An artist-in-residence project is a combination of school and social resources. It is a medium which offers students an opportunity to familiarize what art is from the creations or the teaching experiences of artists, accompanied by the fact that it helps developing the school-based curriculum. Recently, more and more artist-in-residence projects and other related programs have been emphasized. Unfortunately, the studies of the influence of school art teaching in Taiwan are focused more on school teachers than on artists-in-residence at the present stage. This study employs action research approach to analyze the lesson plans and implementations of the researcher in the community-based curriculum in an elementary school in Tainan City. It is aimed at the results of artist-in-residence course designs and teaching for a community-based curriculum as well as the effects on students’ learning process. The data are going to be collected by class-observing and interviewing. To state succinctly, a community-based curriculum which contains the history, architectures and geographical position is able to develop a series of creative activities— supporting facts are that there are postcard frottage, community portraits, community maps, traveling books, graphic association, puppet making and puppet photographs. They intensify students’ impressions of their own community. Second, due to artist-in-residence lecturing, field studying and group discussing in class, the contexts of community-based curriculum are diverse. Therefore, students will boost their capability of creative thinking. The last but not the least, the designs of teaching materials for the community-based curriculum must depend on the abilities of the students. If the lesson plan is well-designed, there will be spare time for students to share their work and show their appreciation.

Taipei City now, more than seven over 20 years old building, and promote urban renewal has become an important means of improvement of the quality of the environment and regeneration. Taiwan''s current urban planning rules and regulations to approach, including the "reconstruction" and "renovation" and "Maintenance" in three ways, from the central or local at this stage has been completed the types of cases it seems the "urban renewal", mainly to demolition and reconstruction of the implementation of the majority, but their updates intention of spirit, renovation maintenance is to improve the overall environment, should not only limited to the restoration and management of hardware facilities, should be emphasized to improve the overall quality of the environment, as well as the entire updated after construction to maintain satisfaction. UN-HABITAT Habitat Agenda first asked the following declaration: " We recognize the imperative need to improve the quality of human settlements, which profoundly affects the daily lives and well-being of our peoples." By the second visible demand for the living environment not only on the amount of space and facilities to pursue, but pay attention to qualitative improvement. According to the hierarchy of needs theory of Maslow (Abraham Harold Maslow ''s), households in meet the basic needs of shelter, and then the pursuit of a higher quality of life. This study focused on the Renovation and Conservation residents'' living satisfaction. Explore the hierarchy of needs Maslow''s hierarchy of needs theory, residential satisfaction, quality of residence and renovation to maintain the relationship between literature compiled the factors that impact on the living satisfaction, and follow the three-level classification of the hierarchy of needs theory : lower demand for mid-level demand and high-level requirements, to incorporate the relevant factors. This thesis mainly focuses on the artistic creation of the first generation of female foreign artists in China, Pan Yuliang, and the second time in France (1937-1977). Pan Yuliang went to France to study paintings in 1921. During his tenure (1928-1937), he taught at Shanghai Fine Arts College, Shanghai Xinhua Art College, and Nanjing Central University Art Department. In 1937, the painter decided to leave the motherland again and start the second period of travel in France. This 40-year travel in France has created the peak period of Pan Yuliang's artistic creation and has been invited to participate in representative French salon exhibitions. It is a pity that Pan Yuliang's brilliant artistic achievements were not paid special attention by Chinese academic circles. Until a large number of works were returned from France in 1987, Pan Yuliang was re-received by the Chinese art circle. Later, related biographies and film works were released. Through the dramatic rendering of its legendary life, the world has attracted her attention to her special life experience. Domestic research on Pan Yuliang's literature and literature is rarer than China's, especially Pan Yuliang's strong Chinese Color Paintings, which have not received special attention for a long time. This thesis will focus on the fusion of Chinese and Western colors in Pan Yuliang's paintings, and create a total of 336 works of color inks in the second trip. Most of them are female-themed, but this study does not analyze this theme in depth. The Chinese Color Paintings of the two albums of Pan Yuliang's Complete Works and Pan Yuliang's Paintings are sorted out, including 42 figure paintings, 40 flower still lifes, 12 animals and 2 landscapes. A total of 96 styles are combed. This paper analyzes the changes in the style of Chinese Color Paintings creation between Pan Yuliang and the 40 years after her return to France. She explores the personal color of Chinese female painters under the integration of Chinese and Western, and sums up the artistic phenomenon created by the French social environment at that time.

Abstract:
IT. EN. In this thesis the design process in landscape architecture is explored by studying it as a research tool. How does the design process work in landscape architecture? This is one of the central themes of the academic and professional debate in landscape architecture. However, learning from the process when it’s already complete is a challenging process. Is it possible to understand how the design process works starting from the design outcome? What implications can derive from the theory of landscape architecture by applying this method? The research arises from these considerations and applies a non-conventional Reverse Reading on the design process in order to achieve different contributions and to provide new inspirations to nurture the ongoing debate. The research aim is to understand how the project evolved starting from the design outcome, learning from the stages, the tools and the practices that played a strategic role within the design process. The literature research has revealed no study that openly declares to apply a "reverse” technique to analyze and to understand the design process in landscape architecture. Therefore, this is a field still open to possible interactions with other disciplines with the purpose to explore the potentials of non-conventional approaches applied on landscape architecture. The methodological framework is under the Design Research umbrella opened for cross-fertilization between the research for design and the research through designing methods. The Exploratory Design Research should provide an important input to fill the knowledge gap. The exploration on a professional practice is the research strategy to test the hypothesis investigating the common ground of theory and practice. J&L Gibbons landscape architects were chosen as the case study because of their innovative design thinking integrated with research and transferring of knowledge. The analysis of ten projects already planned was the strategy to generate evidence by collecting, testing and narrating the distinctive features that have affected the design process. In a first stage, it was necessary to codify an open-system able to drive the interpretative reading of the ten chosen projects. The achievement was a practice-tools taxonomy commonly used in landscape design. The three months, spent in London during the research in residence, were the occasion to deepen the case study and to collect useful data to read in reverse the design process. The interviews were structured following logic to make clear the succession of the project stages and the peculiarity of the process (Fieldnotes). At the same time, it was necessary to clarify the connection amongst the design stages, tools, practices, actors and external factors involved in the process. These relationships have been repeatedly tested and verified through an iterative process between inductive and deductive thinking, deconstructing and recomposing the design process stages. The ten projects are narrated (Design Tale) and outlined in synthetic maps (Design Map). The selective coding method and the comparison of the maps allowed to identify the key stages of the design process, the recurrent tools and practices, even the exceptional ones. At the same time, it was possible to recognize the actors and the extra ingredients which played a significant role in the project progression. Through the Exploratory Design Research, the study has highlighted the results of this application. This research allowed to reflect on J&L Gibbons’ professional activity, the Reverse Reading tested and the implications between theory and practice. Applying this research strategy to similar case studies could lead to new developments by suggesting future scenarios where theory, practice and critique could be able to dialogue in a constant exchange of knowledge, nurturing both culture and technique in landscape architecture.

An idealistic living space is best to include the two following qualities: One being the integration and the continuity of culture into daily life, and the other the conversation mechanism with the nature. In other words, the conversation mechanism with the nature has a direct influence on daily life activities and on the development of culture. Nowadays, on our quest to the modernism, most attention is focused on substantial equipment, and the integration between nature environment and daily life is often neglected. As for the topographic conditions in various areas in Taiwan, in order to achieve idealistic living space and environment, after considering natural conditions such as typhoons and earthquakes, which have already been thoroughly emphasized in the structure and in the safety point of view, as far as space planning and design are concerned, are there only the three basic conditions (1. the monsoon during summer and winter seasons; 2. the sunshine during these two seasons; 3. the sunshine on the west side) to be taken into account? In fact, there are no evident measures concerning the cognition of high temperature, high humidity, and dust level. Therefore, in order to ensure decent daily life environment, we believe that the integration of nature into daily life is the best way to rebuild and construct living space. It is also one of the priorities and main goals of planning theory stepping toward the third stage. Only through this way can we efficiently manage power resource and reduce urban heat effect. During the past, the status of the relation in general indoor environment was simulated or represented through temperature (℃) and humidity (%) figures or through the thermal conductivity of the materials. But from an architectural planning approach, we attempt to analyze the relative change of the bio-temperature to outdoor temperature and humidity on daily basis. We use time as a factor to represent the relationship between phenomenon and position, and basing on this, we initiate our theory frame on South-facing apartment-style residence bio-temperature. We collected on-the-spot thermal data of bio-temperature and took graphic notes and measurements of planar area and furniture. The purpose is to find out whether any constant or particular factor is existent concerning the change of bio-temperature in different time segment at different parts of the indoor orientation space. We also intend to find out the characteristic of the architecture in question.
