Abstract:
Age-related changes occur on all stages of the human somatosensory pathway, thereby deteriorating tactile, haptic, and sensorimotor performance. However, recent studies show that age-related changes are not irreversible but treatable through peripheral stimulation paradigms based on neuroplasticity mechanisms. We here applied repetitive electric stimulation (rES) to the fingers on a bi-weekly basis for 4 weeks to induce enduring amelioration of age-related changes in healthy individuals aged 60–85 years. Tactile, haptic, and motor performance gradually improved over time of intervention. After termination of rES, tactile acuity recovered to baseline within 2 weeks, while the gains in haptic and motor performance were preserved for 2 weeks. Sham stimulation showed no comparable changes. Our data indicate that age-related decline of sensorimotor performance can be ameliorated by rES and can be stabilized by the repeated application. Thus, long-term application of rES appears as a prime candidate for maintaining sensorimotor functions in elderly individuals.

Abstract:
The Internet is increasingly prominent in all walks of life, and Web connection is a key factor in social integration. The rise in life expectancy and quality of life mean that our active seniors now represent a growing sector in society. This study analyses what senior citizens use the Internet for and why, as well as the main benefits of its usage and the perceived obstacles of those who are non-users. The results derive from a questionnaire completed by senior citizens enrolled on university courses for older people, and they show that university seniors frequently connect to the Internet –daily or 2 or 3 times per week–, and use it mainly to look up facts, contact family and friends, for course work and to read the press. They consider the Internet easy to use but they could survive without it. For those who do not have access to the Internet, lack of knowledge about how to use it is the main barrier; yet they do not consider themselves incapable of learning how to use the Internet if they wished to do so. The data gathered from the survey challenge negative stereotypes of older people, and encourage us to modify our view of active seniors as disconnected from and incapable of using the Web and instead see their progress and motivation to learn as something highly positive.

Abstract:
Natural stilbenes have unique physiological effects, such as anti-senile dementia, anti-cancer, anti-bacterial, lowering blood lipid, and other important biological functions, which have attracted great attention from scholars in recent years. In this study, two stilbene compounds, resveratrol (RES) and polydatin (PD), were isolated from Mulberry (Morus alba L.), and their antioxidant activity and mechanism were investigated. The results showed that the contents of RES and PD in mulberry roots were 32.45 and 3.15 μg/g, respectively, significantly higher than those in mulberry fruits (0.48 and 0.0020 μg/g) and mulberry branches (5.70 and 0.33 μg/g). Both RES and PD showed high antioxidant potential by DPPH, ABTS free-scavenging methods, and ORAC assay, and provided protection against oxidative damage in HepG2 cells by increased catalase (CAT) activity, superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity, and Glutathione (GSH) content, and decreasing generation of reactive oxygen species (ROS), lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) level, and malondialdehyde (MDA) content. Therefore, RES and PD treatment could be effective for attenuating AAPH-induced oxidative stress in HepG2 cells. This study will promote the development and application of stilbene compounds. Furthermore, the RES and PD could be used as antioxidant supplements in functional foods, cosmetics, or pharmaceuticals, contributing to health improvement.

Abstract:
This study is to find ways to respond to Korea’s low-growth and aging issues with suggesting a future residential complex model through advanced domestic and international cases. The 50+ community shows a new vision for building a preemptive housing system, spreading private-led service supply, and further creating an “Aging In Place” environment. Active seniors in their 50s and 60s are the generations not only with relatively large assets, but also with poor economic and residential conditions due to divorce, business failure, and unemployment. It is also necessary to develop community-based social support service system to support housing, stable income and leisure activities, and create premium housing services to fulfill their unmet needs and trendy lifestyles especially for active seniors with high income. In the United States, the senior housing business is expanding centering on large private construction companies’ franchises. In addition, various service infrastructures, such as 50+ community, independent living, assisted living, nursing home, and dementia care home, are built together in a huge complex according to the consumer’s requirements. In Europe, senior citizens live in flat, apartments, condos, share homes, or houses and use community-based social welfare service and programs. The famous European retirement communities are usually surrounded by the beautiful natural environment with luxurious resort facilities. The 50 plus community is a preemptive model that can contribute to the creation of the “Aging In Place” environment in Korea. It is also necessary to develop a new ageing-friendly residential complex model for encouraging investments of the private sectors. A private-led 50+ community model is to be differentiated from the public-centered model which mainly focus on supporting daily living services for super-aged, low-income, and disabled seniors. The preemptive new model may be triggering a new senior housing business and solve the social problems in this super-aged society.

Abstract:
Purposes. To clarify the impacts of clinical nursing pathway (CNP) on therapeutic efficacy and quality of life (QOL) of senile acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients. Methods. The clinical records of 177 elderly AMI patients who received treatment in the First Hospital of Quanzhou Affiliated to Fujian Medical University were retrospectively studied. They were assigned into the control group (the Con; n = 79 ; from June 2019 to January 2020) and the research group (the Res; n = 98 ; from February 2020 to July 2020). Emergency percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) was performed in all the cases. Additionally, the Con and the Res were given routine care and CNP, respectively. The two groups were compared in total emergency treatment time, hospital stay, medical expenses, recurrence rate of myocardial infarction (MI), overall response rate (ORR), incidence of complications, cardiac function indexes, negative mood scores, QOL, and nursing satisfaction. Results. The ORR was higher, and the incidence of complications was lower in the Res versus the Con; the Res presented significantly less emergency treatment time and hospitalization and statistically lower medical expenses and recurrence rate of MI; the Res outperformed the Con in cardiac function indexes, alleviation of negative mood, QOL, and nursing satisfaction. Conclusions. While effectively improving clinical efficacy and reducing the incidence of complications, CNP can relieve the bad mood of elderly patients with AMI and improve their cardiac function, QOL, and nursing satisfaction, which is worthy of clinical promotion.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Society ageing, which results in many changes both within the social and cultural spheres, is a multi-aspect demographic process. Its basic determinants are mortality and reproduction rates, which are affected by social, economic, engineering and civilisation changes. The changes are related, among other things, with ageing of the population with chronic and geriatric diseases (Błędowski 2002). The natural consequence of ageing and the co-existing chronic diseases include the growing dependence and demand for care services among the seniors. As a result the population structure changes, care services are still at their development stage and the demand for the services has been increasing. The role of local-government and non-government entities in the area of support, aid and care services for the elderly has been gradually growing. The purpose of the article is to present the forms and scope of the care services for the seniors from the perspective of the Polish Red Cross support activities. Keywords: seniors, care, support, care services, Polish Red Cross

Abstract:
SynopsisThe nutritional status of 23 severely demented patients was compared with that of 23 similarly aged controls in the community. A 3-day weighed intake on all subjects showed lower mean intakes of energy, protein, ascorbic acid and nicotinic acid in the patient group. This group had lower levels of plasma ascorbic acid and red cell folate and of urinary N-methylnicotinamide excretion relative to creatinine. Over a third of both controls and patients had evidence of thiamin deficiency, as judged by a raised percentage erythrocyte transketolase activity. An earlier finding in patients with senile dementia of reduced fasting plasma concentrations of tryptophan was confirmed for total and protein bound fractions. With the possible exception of ascorbic acid, the data could not be explained satisfactorily in terms of intake. It is suggested that the association between the phenomena of ageing, senile dementia and nutritional status merits further investigation.

Abstract:
This activity is one of the more stimulating and enlightening I have discovered. It has worked well and with similar results in classes of mathematically gifted students in grades 2–10, in a class of advanced high school seniors, and in in-service workshops for teachers! A wide range? Yes, and I feel certain that it would work in almost any situation. Using colored yarn, participants are asked to create geometric figures. Since yarn is not a familiar “output device,” it always supplies an ample number of problems.

Abstract:
Introduction. Senile systemic amyloidosis is a multisystem disease where wild-type insoluble transthyretin (ATTRwt) protein gets deposited in the tissues leading to organ dysfunction. Methodology. We present the case of a patient who presented with hematuria and bladder involvement by ATTRwt amyloidosis who ultimately died of multiorgan failure. Results. The patient was an 82-year-old white male with a history of ischemic cardiomyopathy (ejection fraction (EF): 20–25%), chronic atrial fibrillation, chronic kidney disease (CKD), and carpal tunnel syndrome who presented with acute hematuria, urinary retention, and progressive fatigue. He underwent cystoscopy and bladder biopsy which was positive on congo-red stain diagnostic for amyloidosis. Echocardiogram demonstrated worsening of EF to 10–15% and concentric left ventricle hypertrophy. MRI was not performed due to underlying CKD. His condition deteriorated during the hospital stay, and he developed cardiogenic shock and progressive liver dysfunction. Infectious workup was negative. Meanwhile, the biochemical investigations (serum protein electrophoresis, immunofixation, and urine kappa/lambda chains) ruled out plasma cell dyscrasias. Mass spectrometry analysis of the bladder biopsy specimen confirmed wild-type transthyretin (ATTRwt) amyloidosis consistent with senile systemic amyloidosis. Due to patients’ extremely poor prognosis, his family wished to focus on patient’s comfort-oriented measures only, and patient passed away shortly thereafter. Conclusion. Senile systemic amyloidosis can rarely present in an atypical fashion such as hematuria. The treatment options are limited in this disease process. Novel therapies are in the early phases of development. Concern also exists that in patients with multiple comorbidities, this entity is under recognized until the more advanced stages.

Abstract:
An excess of irregularly di storted red cells with spiked forms (acanthocytes. spur cells) has been found in a substantial minority of patient s with seni le dementia of Alzheimer type (7 of 50 patients, 3 of 21 men and 4 of 29 women). Of 100 control patients, 42 men and 58 women), 5 (men and 2 women) showed comparable distortion, but, of these, one man may well have incipient dementia and the others had serious organic di seases which may be associated with comparable erythrocytic changes. The cause of the distortion is not yet clear, but the presence of occasional giant erythrocytes in the absence of general macrocytosis suggests a possible abnormality of cell membrane synthes is. This distortion may be a useful marker in patients with loss of memory. Whether it is a manifestation of a haemopoietic clone or a constitutional anomaly associated with Alzheimer’s disease remains to be seen.

Abstract:
Background: Amyloid-β (Aβ) accumulation plays a critical role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) lesions. Deficiency of Serotonin signaling recently has been linked to the increased Aβ level in transgenic mice and humans. In addition, tryptophan hydroxylase-2 (Tph2), a second tryptophan hydroxylase isoform, controls brain serotonin synthesis. However, it remains to be determined that whether Tph2 deficient APP/PS1mice affect the formation of Aβ plaques in vivo. Methods: Both quantitative and qualitative immunochemistry methods, as well as Congo red staining were used to evaluate the Aβ load and astrogliosis in these animals. Results: we studied alterations of cortex and hippocampus in astrocytes and senile plaques by Tph2 conditional knockout (Tph2 CKO) AD mice from 6-10 months of age. Using Congo red staining and immunostained with Aβ antibody, we showed that plaques load or plaques numbers significantly increased in Tph2 CKO experimental groups at 8 to 10 months old, compared to wild type (WT) group, respectively. Using GFAP+ astrocytes immunofluorescence method, we found that the density of GFAP+ astrocytes markedly enhanced in Tph2 CKO at 10 months. We showed Aβ plaques co-localized autophagic markers LC3 and p62. Nevertheless, we did not observe any co-localization between GFAP+ astrocytes and autophagic markers, but detected the co-localization between βIII-tubulin+ neurons and autophagic markers. Conclusion: Overall, our work provides the preliminary evidence in vivo that Tph2 plays a role in amyloid plaques generation.

Abstract:
Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a clinical syndrome secondary to the definitive change in function and structure of the kidney, which is characterized by its irreversibility and slow and progressive evolution. Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is characterized by the extracellular accumulation of misfolded β-amyloid (Aβ) proteins into senile plaques and the formation of neurofibrillary tangles (NFTs) containing hyperphosphorylated tau. In the aging population, CKD and AD are growing problems. CKD patients are prone to cognitive decline and AD. However, the connection between CKD and AD is still unclear. In this review, we take the lead in showing that the development of the pathophysiology of CKD may also cause or exacerbate AD, especially the renin-angiotensin system (RAS). In vivo studies had already shown that the increased expression of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) produces a positive effect in aggravating AD, but ACE inhibitors (ACEIs) have protective effects against AD. Among the possible association of risk factors in CKD and AD, we mainly discuss the RAS in the systemic circulation and the brain.

Abstract:
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is an incurable degenerative disease of the central nervous system, leading to dementia. The basis of AD is neurodegenerative process that leads to death of neurons in the cerebral cortex. This neurodegenerative process is associated with the formation of neurofibrillary tangles in the brain and the deposition of senile plaques, the main component of which is a beta-amyloid peptide (Ab). Risk factors for AD are age, as well as hypertension, atherosclerosis, diabetes and hypercholesterolemia in the pathogenesis of which involved angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) – key enzyme of the renin-angiotensin (RAS) and kallikrein-kinin (KKS) systems. Recently it was discovered that ACE, along with other metallopeptidases, participates in the metabolism of Ab, cleaving the bonds at the N-terminal and C-terminal region of the molecule Ab. The role of the ACE in the degradation processes of Ab takes an interest. It is associated with the fact that the using of ACE inhibitors is the main therapeutic approach used in the treatment of various forms of hypertension and other cardiovascular diseases. However, until now not been resolved, can be used antihypertensive drugs that inhibit RAS for the treatment or prevention of AD. Currently, there are numerous studies on finding the relationship between RAS and AD.

Abstract:
Background: Proper nutrition is an important factor in maintaining health and preventing disease development or progression regardless of age, but is especially relevant for elderly people. Seniors rarely follow nutritional and life-style guidelines, which may correlate with poor health, multiple morbidities, polypharmacy and premature death. Aim of the study: The aim of this study was to evaluate the nutritional pattern, food choices, knowledge about healthy eating, body mass and health issues among men and women over 80 years of age living in a rural area of south-west Poland. Material and methods: 100 participants, women and men, aged 79.6–93.3 years, responded to a questionnaire on nutritional choices. Anthropomorphic measurements were also taken. Results: Only 40% of responders declared drinking 2 litres of water daily. Fruit and vegetables were eaten in inadequate quantities: only 10% of responders declared eating fruit and vegetables at least twice a day. Wholegrain products were regularly chosen by 30%. Dairy products were eaten once daily by 50% of seniors. 45% of the elderly chose meat, including red meat and its products, three to four times a week, and 66% chose fish only once a week. Almost 50% of responders ate only three meals a day. All participants declared suffering from at least one disease (chronic or acute). 45% of seniors had never heard of any nutritional guidelines. Conclusions: Based on this study most responders do not follow the nutritional guidelines for elderly people. Intake of water, dairy products, fruit and vegetables was inadequate. These food choices by the elderly may impact on their health and well-being.

Abstract:
Abstract Introduction Among psychotropic drugs, particularly hypnotics are often used by ambulatory seniors due to high prevalence of insomnia in higher age. This study focused on describing the prevalence of insomnia, prevalence of hypnosedative drug use and inappropriate patterns of their prescribing (nongeriatric doses, nongeriatric lenght of therapy) in ambulatory seniors in the Czech Republic. Methods There were 563 ambulatory geriatric patients (≥65 years) included in the study, from 4 geriatric ambulances (regionally different sites) in the Czech Republic. All patients have been assessed using comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) using the EUROAGEISM H2020 study protocols. Prevalences of insomnia, hypnosedative drug use and use of drugs that may exacerbate insomnias were documented by descriptive statistics, as well as the prevalence of potentially inappropriate medications in older patients (PIMs, selectively for hypnosedatives, defined by 2019 Beers criteria and 2015 EU(7)-PIM list). Results 30.6% (N = 172) of ambulatory seniors suffered from insomnias and the majority of patients were treated pharmacologically (24.0%), nonpharmacologic procedures were used rarely (0.5%). Hypnosedatives in the evening or at night (e/n) were mostly prescribed in the age group of patients 84–94 years (42.8%) and most often these were Z-drugs (8.2%), benzodiazepines (BZDs, 7.6%) and from „off-label “hypnotics antipsychotics (17.8%,!17% of users 6 months) and sedative antidepressants (9.2%). In nongeriatric doses and nongeriatric duration of therapy (>4 weeks) there were most often prescribed Z-drugs (6.0% and 2,7%, respectively) and BZDs (2,7% and 11%). Conclusion In ambulatory Czech seniors we documented that one third suffered from insomnias and minimally were applied nonpharmacological treatment strategies. From nongeriatric procedures in hypnosetive drug use were most often described long-term use of antipsychotics e/n, non-geriatric dosing of Z-drugs and long-term use of BZDs e/n. Abstract:
Abstract Introduction Insomnia is a frequent problem in acutely hospitalized older adults, particularly in those suffering from polymorbidity and treated by polypharmacy. The aim of our study was to describe the prevalence of insomna and patterns of inappropriately prescribed hypnosedatives in acutely hospitalized older patients in the Czech Republic. Methods 438 patients (≥65 yrs) acutely hospitalized at 3 geriatric clinics (Brno, Hradec Králové, Praha) in the Czech Republic underwent a comprehensive geriatric assessment (CGA) using the EUROAGEISM H2020 assessment protocols. Descriptive statistics was used to determine the prevalence of insomnia and use of hypnosedatives. Explicit criteria of potentially inappropriate medications (PIMs), mainly 2019 Beers criteria and 2015 EU(7)-PIM list were applied to determine inappropriate patterns of hypnosedatives use. Results 16.9% (N = 74) seniors had diagnosed insomnia in their medical records, but 34,6% used hypnosedatives in the evening or at night (e/n). 13.8% reported e/n use of drugs aggravating insomnias (particularly beta-blockers- 6.4%, diuretics-2.5% and theophylline- 2.1%). Most frequent hypnosedatives used were: antipsychotics e/n (18.5%), Z-drugs (16,2%) and benzodiazepines e/n (BZD, 14,2%). Non-geriatric doses were determined in users of Z-drugs (10.5%) and sedative antidepressants e/n (1,8%), longer than recommended geriatric duration of therapy has been described for Z-drugs (5.9%,>1 month), BZDs e/n (5,3%,>1 month) and sedative antidepressants e/n (3,3%, >6 months). In total, 1PIM was prescribed to 7.5% of seniors (N = 33), 2PIMs to 2.5% and 3PIMs to 1,1% of seniors. Combination of hypnotics and other sedative drugs was documented in 5.9% of cases. Conclusion Inappropriate patterns of hypnosedative use in acutely hospitalized seniors in the Czech Republic at geriatric clinics were found particularly in excessive indication of antipsychotics e/n, inappropriate dosing of Z-drugs and long-term use of BZDs e/n. Abstract:
Eileen Chang’s novella “Red Rose, White Rose” presents a love triangle between one man and two women, who struggle in the turbulent 1940s, a radically transitional period in China. The traditional lifestyle and morality upheld by the Chinese public for several generations were challenged by the importation of foreign civilization, a process accompanied by military and ideological tensions. Drawing upon the theory of Deleuze and Guattari, this article argues that the three main characters in the novella have difficulty in gratifying their multiple desires, which results from the crumbling of the old order represented by China’s traditional mindset defended by seniors, and from the absence of a reliable new order to be largely formulated in line with Western models. In this transitional age which confuses and suffocates the young Chinese generation, education fails to fulfill its role as a bridge connecting Chinese tradition and Western modernity, and it fails to emancipate young people – and females in particular – from an outdated mentality and lifestyle.

Abstract:
Pesticides used in agriculture that wash off have a detrimental effect on freshwater fish in Bangladesh. The purpose of this research is to assess the effects of the organophosphate insecticide Malathion 57 EC on the silver barb (Barbonymus gonionotus). The effects of Malathion 57 EC at dosages of 0.001 and 0.005 ppm, respectively, were assessed using a histological bio-assay of the gill, liver, kidney, and RBC count of B. gonionotus. For B. gonionotus, the LC50 value of Malathion 57 EC was estimated to be 0.08 ppm. The notable alterations included gill clubbing, missing gill lamellae, hyperplasia, nuclear hypertrophy, vacuolation, glomerular enlargement, increasing the width of renal tubules, bleeding, necrosis, and pyknosis were found in the histological analysis. Large lymphocytes, dead cells, tear-shaped cells, a fusion of cells, binucleated cells, ghost cells, senile cells, and irregular cell shapes were among the abnormalities detected in peripheral nuclear erythrocytes. In B. gonionotus, the RBC count was considerably lower (P<0.01) at lower pesticide doses compared to higher ones. The outcome of the study shows that the organophosphorus pesticide has a negative impact on the histology and haematology of various organs in B. gonionotus. Res. Agric. Livest. Fish. Abstract:
Edaravone regulates Rho/ROCK signaling pathway and its relationship with Alzheimer’s disease (AD) damage repair remains unclear. Our study aims to explore the protective mechanism of edar-avone on Alzheimer Disease nerve synapses. The Alzheimer Disease animal mouse model was established followed by analysis of hippocampal synaptic damage by Congo red stain and Golgi’s method, Morris water maze assay, levels of postsynaptic density mRNA 95 antibody (PSD95) and synapse-associated mRNA synapsin 1 (SYN1) in the hippocampus. Edaravone can improve the behavior of mice, including spatial learning and memory, and reduce senile plaques in the cerebral cortex of APP/PS1 mice. Edaravone can upregulate the expression of synapse-related mRNA SYN1 and PSD95 in the hippocampus of APP/PS1 mice and inhibit Rho and ROCK mRNA level. Edaravone targets the Rho/ROCK pathway to protect Alzheimer Disease nerve synapse damage, indicating that the Rho/ROCK pathway may be a key link in the effect of edaravone.

Abstract:
Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a serious neurodegenerative disease. It is widely believed that the accumulation of amyloid beta (Aβ) in neurons around neurofibrillary plaques is the main pathological characteristic of AD; however, the molecular mechanism underlying these pathological changes is not clear. Baicalin is a flavonoid extracted from the dry root of Scutellaria baicalensis Georgi. Studies have shown that baicalin exerts excellent anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective effects. In this study, an AD cell model was established by exposing SH-SY5Y cells to Aβ1-42 and treating them with baicalin. Cell survival, cell cycle progression, and apoptosis were measured by MTT, flow cytometry, and immunofluorescence assays, respectively. The expression levels of Ras, ERK/ERK phosphorylation (p-ERK), and cyclin D1 were measured by Western blotting. In addition, whether the MEK activator could reverse the regulatory effect of baicalin on Ras-ERK signaling was investigated using Western blotting. We found that baicalin improved the survival, promoted the proliferation, and inhibited the apoptosis of SH-SY5Y cells after Aβ1-42 treatment. Baicalin also ameliorated Aβ1-42-induced cell cycle arrest at the S phase and induced apoptosis. Furthermore, baicalin inhibited the levels of Ras, p-ERK, and cyclin D1 induced by Aβ, and this effect could be reversed by the MEK activator. Therefore, we suggest that baicalin may regulate neuronal cell cycle progression and apoptosis in Aβ1-42-treated SH-SY5Y cells by inhibiting the Ras-ERK signaling pathway. This study suggested that baicalin might be a useful therapeutic agent for senile dementia, especially AD.

Abstract:
The study is devoted to ontomorphogenesis and the structure of cоenopopulations of the rare species Crepis purpurea (Willd.) M. Bieb., protected by the Red Data Book of Sevastopol, the Republic of Crimea, Turkey and I Appendix of the Berne Convention. The duration, morphological and anatomical features of the age states in the pregenerative, generative and senile periods of C. purpurea ontogenesis are established. The total duration of ontogenesis is 5–6 years, which includes 4 ontogenetic periods and 9 age states. C. purpurea is characterized by the structural type of polyvariance with the formation of 3 ontobiomorphic variants: individuals with one-, two-, or many-headed caudex. The features and the period of the onset of anatomical partition in the shoot part caudex were revealed. Germination of C. purpurea seeds was determined. The ontogenetic, vitality and spatial structure of 11 Crimean cоenopopulations of C. purpurea were carried out. The lack of the pregenerative and senile individuals fractions is observed in coenopopulations. The basic ontogenetic spectrum of the studied populations is bimodal with a peak on virgin and mature generative individuals. The indices of renewability, generativeness, aging, the general age of the population, as well as the age indices of A. A. Uranov and the efficiency of L. A. Zhivotovsky were calculated for each population. In the vital structures there is a dynamic on the increase in the values of the index of vital quality of populations from the eastern foothills to the western foothills and further – to the mountain plateaus variants of populations. It was established that individuals of C. purpurea have a tendency to tend to a group type of distribution in the population. The data on areas of coenopopulations, the number and density of individuals of C. purpurea in the studied communities are presented.

Abstract:
The ontogenetic and vitality structure of eight Muscari botryoides populations from Ukraine have been studied. M. botryoides is a rare, endemic species of the Asparagaceae family, distributed on northeastern limit of its natural range and listed in the 3rd edition of the Red Data Book of Ukraine with conservation status "endangered". The characteristics of the species main ontogenetic states have been given. Age spectra of populations have been constructed. Ontogenetic indices have been calculated according to I.M. Kovalenko. Individuals of eight age states have been identified: seeds (se), seedlings (p), juvenile (j), immature (im), virginal (v), young generative (g1), mature generative (g2) and old generative (g3). Subsenile (ss) and senile (s) individuals were not registered. The populations are normal, noncomplete with left-biased age spectra. Juveniles prevail in all age spectra. . According to A.A. Uranov and O.V. Smirnova all populations are normal young, according to the Delta-Omega classification proposed by L.A. Zhivotovskij, they are young, and according to L.A. Zhukova and T.A. Polyanskaya – perspective. Innovation indices of all populations are very high, and generative, senilis, age indices are low. A factor analysis based on 17 morphological parameters of M. botryoides have been made. The results of the analysis showed, that the following parameters determine vitality of M. botryoides individuals: first leaf length, bulb width, inflorescence length and number of flowers in the inflorescence. Medium vitality individuals dominate in most populations. According to the vitality structure, six populations are prosperous, and two – depressed. Key words: endemic species, age spectrum, ontogenetic indices, vitality, natural population. Abstract:
The article aims to provide a survey of the current situation with human rights of senior people in Ukraine, based on the legal analysis and sociological overview. The questionnaire for the overview was built to show the level of seniors’ knowledge about their rights and possible ways of protection, level seniors’ human rights infringement and awareness about possible remedies in case of infringement. The sample of the sociological overview includes 1 379 persons. The interviews were done by students under the supervision of the authors of this paper in the framework of GRAGE Horizon 2020 project. Sample analysis and calibration resulted in 1 159 valid respondents’ forms. The Gender structure of the responses constitutes 39 % women and 61 % men. The group includes people from 60 years old and older, including long-livers (90+). Seven main questions were put to the interviewed: Do you know which rights and benefits do older persons have in Ukraine? Do you know any NGOs or societies, which deal with older person’s rights protection? Do you meet information about older person’s rights in newspapers or TV programs? Have you ever been discriminated on the basis of your age (in the sphere of employment, credits, insurance etc.)? Have you ever experienced physical or psychological violence because of your age (from your relatives, social workers, and other people)? Which rights of older persons are the most violated? Do you know where to appeal in your city in case of your (as older person) rights are violated? The results of such analysis are represented in diagrams and show the real picture of seniors’ rights protection in Ukraine and proper ways of its improvement. Two main rights of elderly which are the subject of violation are the right to proper material support (low level of pensions) and the right to medical care (low level of healthcare support). But one of the main problems of seniors’ rights protection in Ukraine is the low level of elderly knowledge about their rights, ways of protection and possible remedies in the case of infringement. The authors provide their view on the reforming approaches to increase the life level of elderly in Ukraine based on the current development of European practice and achievements of GRAGE Horizon 2020 project. Abstract:
Background: Tetrahydroxystilbene glucoside (TSG) is a main bioactive component of Polygonum multiflorum, a traditional Chinese medicine known for certain anti-aging effects. Since TSG has been found to extend lifespan in the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans, we hypothesized that TSG might produce anti-aging benefits in mammals. Objective: The aim was to evaluate the anti-aging potential of TSG and to explore its relative molecular mechanism. Methods: Mice were maintained on standard diet, high-calorie diet (HC), or high-calorie plus TSG diet. Survival rates and body weight changes were recorded weekly. Rotarod analysis was performed to assess the physical fitness of mice. Bone mineral density was assessed using micro-computed tomography. Hematoxylin and eosin staining was used for the histological examination of heart, liver, and kidney pathology. The mRNA and protein expression of target genes were analyzed by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction and western blotting, respectively. Mitotracker deep red staining and high-content analysis were used to quantify cellular mitochondrial mass and function. Results: In this study, we found that TSG improved the physiology of aged mice consuming excess calories and delayed senile symptoms. The anti-aging benefits of TSG were mediated at least in part by the AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK)/sirtuin 1 (SIRT1)/peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-γ coactivator 1α (PGC-1α) signaling cascade, leading to significant improvement in motor function, bone mineral density, HC-induced organ pathology, and mitochondrial function. Conclusion: Our findings show that TSG could be a potential drug candidate for the treatment of aging- and high-calorie intake-associated disorders.

Abstract:
ABSTRACTClaims that the health care system is about to be engulfed in a “wave of grey” have become commonplace. Recent cost escalation is commonly attributed to the aging of the population, and there is no shortage of dire warnings about the cost implications of the even more dramatic aging, and costs, still to come. These claims have been largely unsubstantiated. Yet they persist for a number of reasons. First, over long periods of time, the effects of demographic trends can be (and probably will be) quite substantial. But these effects move like glaciers, not avalanches. Second, the effects of aging populations on some types of services which cater differentially to seniors will be much more dramatic; observers of those sub-sectors (such as long-term care) tend to extrapolate that sector-specific experience to health care generally. Third, at the “coal-face,” health care providers are seeing their practices become ever more dominated by seniors. They mistake this increased “presence” of patients aged 65 and over in their practices as evidence of the effects of demographic changes. In this paper we discuss each of these sources of error about the effects of aging population on health care costs. We focus primarily on the confusion between changes in patterns of care for particular age groups, and changes in overall levels of care. Quite extensive empirical evidence has been collected over the past decade from analyses of British Columbia data bases, and these findings are not unique, in Canada, or beyond. The common finding of this body of research is that population aging has accounted for very little of the increase in health care costs over the past three decades, in Canada or elsewhere. Health care utilization has increased dramatically among seniors. But this has had less to do with the fact that there are more of them, than with the fact that the health care system is doing much more to (and for) them than was the case even a decade ago. This suggests that the appropriate care of elderly people should be a central issue for health care policy and management, but that demographic issues are, in the short run at least, largely a red herring.

Abstract:
This article presents the results of studies of cenopopulations of the Erythronium sibiricum in the disturbedareas of Kemerovo region. Erythronium sibiricum is a rare plant listed in the Red Book of the Russian Federation. To assess the condition of the cenopulations of the studied species in disturbed territories, research was carried out on an oldlimestone quarry (kandyk-sedge birch forest, anthropogenically altered birch-pine forest) and on anthropogenically disturbed meadows. 4 phytocenoses of various compositions have been studied. As a result of research, it was found that inthe kandyk-sedge birch forest Erythronium sibiricum occupies 10 % of the herbaceous cover, in the anthropogenically altered birch-pine forest – 5 %, in anthropogenically disturbed grasslands Erythronium sibiricum occurs singly and makesup less than 1% of the herbaceous cover. Under the forest canopy, the biometric indicators of generative individuals of thisspecies are higher than in meadow communities, where, for example, the length of generative shoots is 6–8 cm less, or generative individuals are absent. No seedlings, senile and dying individuals were found in the age spectrum of Erythroniumsibiricum cenopulations. Reproduction of the species occurs by seed. In the age structure, all cenopulations are left-handed, incomplete, of the normal type.

Abstract:
Transient occlusion of the middle cerebral artery (MCAO) in rats leads to abnormal accumulation of β-amyloid (Aβ) peptides in the thalamus. This study investigated the chemical composition of these deposits. Adult male human β-amyloid precursor protein (APP) overexpressing ( hAPP695) rats and their wild-type littermates were subjected to transient MCAO for 2 h or sham operation. After 26-week survival time, histological examination revealed an overlapping distribution pattern for rodent and human Aβ in the thalamus of hAPP695 rats subjected to MCAO. X-ray microanalysis showed that the deposits did not contain significant amount of iron, zinc, or copper typical to senile plaques. In contrast, the deposit both in hAPP695 and non-transgenic rats contained calcium and phosphorus in a ratio (1.28 ± 0.15) characteristic to hydroxyapatites. Alizarin red staining confirmed that calcium coaccumulated in these Aβ deposits. It is suggested that APP expression is induced by ischemic insult in cortical neurons adjacent to infarct, which in turn is reflected as increased release of Aβ peptides by their corticothalamic axon endings. This together with insufficient clearance or atypical degradation of Aβ peptides lead to dysregulation of calcium homeostatis and coaccumulation in the thalamus.

Abstract:
The ruminal degradability of starch (“RDS”) is an important indicator of utilization of starch by ruminal microorganism. Degradability rate influences the starch amount that will be utilized in rumen and the amount that will be digested in abomasum. The importance of those by-pass nutrients grows up with the increasing of dairy milk production. The aim of this experiment was to determinate the influence of the locality, hybrid, treatment against european corn borer (“ECB”) and used silages additive on the ruminal degradability of starch in the maize silage. The experiment proceeded in three different localities. In each locality were grown on the parcels two groups of maize plants with regards to treatment against ECB (treated – experimental, untreated – control). Into each group were used three hybrids with the different number of FAO. At the harvest of silage maize was the chopped forage taken from each locality, group and hybrid apart and ensiled into experimental tubs. During conservation were prepared the silages without the addition of preparation, silages inoculated by the microbial preparation (amount 15g/l) and silages with the addition of the chemical agents (organic acids and salts blend 2l/t matter). The values of RDS were detected through the method „in sacco“(nylon bags). The significant difference (P < 0.01) between the values of RDS was detected between the silages from various localities. (Senice na Hané 56.06 ± 4.00%; Starojická Lhota 48.02 ± 4.83%; Záblatí 43.49 ± 2.73%). The treatment against ECB did not affect significantly (P<0.05) the values of RDS of the silages (treated group 49.72 ± 5.88%; untreated group 48.65 ± 7.07%). The differences were not significant neither at the level of particular localities. The influence of used hybrid and silage preparation on the RDS was not significant (P < 0.05). The value of RDS can be different in relation with the locality. The influence of treatment against ECB was not evidential. The using of various hybrids or silage preparation could not change principal the value of RDS.

Abstract:
In this Post mortem study, we examined haem-rich deposits (HRDs) in patients with and without dementia, using a histochemical label (Prussian blue) to show haem, autofluorescence to detect red blood cells (RBCs), and immunohistochemistry for clotting-related factors and collagen IV. The patients studied had no clinical or Post mortem evidence of macrovascular stroke. To allow examination of the spatial relationships between HRDs and the microvasculature, we cut 45-µm sections. Haem-rich deposits were small (< 200 µm diameter). They were rare in younger (< 50 years) patients but were more common in older (> 70 years) patients, particularly in cerebral cortex, and were most abundant in cases with senile plaques. Wherever HRDs appeared they were perivascular and appeared to form around capillaries or small arterioles. Using a software package (Proxan) developed to outline vessels and HRDs, and to analyse the distances between them, a tight spatial correlation between HRDs and capillaries was shown. In addition, HRDs were rich in von Willebrand factor (vWF), fibrinogen, collagen IV and RBCs. These observations suggest that HRDs are the residua of capillary bleeds (microhaemorrhages), and that microhaemorrhages are a common feature of the aging cerebral cortex, particularly where plaque pathology is present.

Abstract:
The morphological changes in the brain tissue of Wistar rats of different ages after intramuscular insulin injection in the dose of 1 IU/kg are typical for the hypoxic lesions of nervous tissue. The brain of rats at the age of 1-2 months responds to increased deposition of glycogen, moderate swelling around the cells and blood vessels. The effect of insulin on the brain Mature rats at the age of 5-7 months leads to vasodilatation, more pronounced swelling around the cells and blood vessels, hypertrophy of cells, aggregation and diabetes of red blood cells. The severity of ischemic changes significantly increased in the brain of old rats at the age of 20-24 months. These old rats had the senile dendrites, the widespread hypertrophic degenerative changes, i.e. flask-shaped vasodilation, hyperemia. In most of the visual fields are detected capillaries with the presence of aggregation on the side erythrocytes, signs of micro thrombosis, hemorrhage areas. The authors note that there is a loss of tone and tortuosity of the small arterioles, widespread swelling around the cells and around the blood vessels. Morphological signs of brain reaction on insulin injection reflect the death of cortical neurons, marked swelling of the brain tissue, disruption of vascular permeability, the thrombus formation and hemorrhages.

Abstract:
Kata Kunci: Jahe Merah; Lansia; Nyeri ABSTRACT The elderly are the majority of the population with joint pain problems. The aging process and concomitant diseases make the elderly experience joint pain that cannot interfere with daily activities and movements. During this time the elderly overcome joint pain with pharmacology therapy or pain reduction drug therapy. Few know that complementary therapies such as red ginger can help reduce joint pain. Red ginger has an essential oil content that is used as a pain reduction. The purpose of this community service activity is to identify the effectiveness of red ginger therapy on the intensity of joint pain in the elderly. This method of community service activity is socialization and demonstration of red ginger oil therapy at the site of joint pain. A total of 25 seniors actively participated in this activity. Before red ginger oil therapy found 90 % elderly with pain intensity 6-7 (severe pain). After therapy red ginger oil 95 % elderly with pain intensity to a scale of 4-5 (mild pain). This indicates that red ginger oil therapy effectively reduces the intensity of joint pain. The conclusion of giving red ginger oil to the elderly with the intensity of joint pain is one of the effective therapies to lower the intensity of joint pain. Keyword: Red Ginger; Elderly; Pain

Abstract:
The COVID-19 crisis has accelerated the adoption of digital content and services, particularly in Italy, a country historically slower in embracing communication technologies (European Commission, 2023). Mobility restrictions have hastened the digitalization of daily life, including communication, entertainment, and utility services (Auditel & Censis, 2022). Older individuals, traditionally less digitally proficient, have faced challenges adapting to this rapid digitalization (Rolandi et al., 2020, NIHR, 2022). However, early evidence suggests that this digital acceleration may not be sufficient to bridge the digital divide, especially among older populations (Litchfield et al., 2021, Colombo et al., 2023). This paper explores the changes occurring in the relationship between older people and new technologies based on data provided by longitudinal qualitative research, which involved a panel of 40 over-65 residents in the Lodigiano region, the first red zone – affected by the pandemic and its restrictions – in Europe. This contribution aims to highlight how active seniors have experienced a transformation in their approach to technology from the onset of the pandemic (2020) to the present day. The interviews were transcribed verbatim and then imported into the NVivo application for content analysis. Grounded Theory (Glaser & Strauss, 1967) was utilized, involving several stages. The analysis also aimed to formulate ideal types for interpreting the diverse approaches to digital adoption among the older population. From the present study, it emerged that the rapid process of digitalization during the COVID-19 pandemic has not effectively bridged the digital divide, but rather widened it. The swift digitalization of public services highlights the challenges in ensuring inclusivity, especially for older individuals. While digitalization can benefit those with support networks, it further marginalizes isolated seniors. Policy-makers need to consider existing caregiver networks to promote digital inclusion among older individuals.

Abstract:
BACKGROUND: Actual mindset, concerning the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes mellitus and its complications, is described in the glucocentric, lipocentric and lipokine theories. At the same time, it is known, that acute cerebrovascular disorder in type 2 diabetes mellitus can also develop with normoglycemia. The mechanism of association between obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus in metabolic syndrome has not yet been studied, and 40% of diabetic patients are not obese. In the physiological state hyperglycemia is prevented by pancreatic regulatory oligopeptides rather than insulin, and protein glycation occurs before the development of diabetes symptoms. That facts indicate the need to continue investigation of the pathogenesis in general and diabetic encephalopathy in particular from the standpoint of metabology in order to substantiate the peptidergic theory of the diabetes mellitus and dyscirculatory encephalopathy pathogenesis. AIM: To consider little-known clinical, morphological and metabolic manifestations of diabetic encephalopathy from the standpoint of improving the disease diagnosis. MATHERIALS AND METHODS: Among 162 elderly and senile patients in the pre-stroke and stroke stages of diabetic encephalopathy, modern methods of radiological, laboratory, histological, psychometric and clinical analysis have been used: the relationship between low total cholesterol and disease progression has been determined according to Schulte and MMSE psychometric tests with the same hyperglycemia in different age groups sick; cases of amyloid angioencephalopathy on magnetic resonance imaging in the ultrasensitive weighted imaging mode and amyloidosis have been identified. Staining post-mortem ultrathin tissue biopsy sections with Congo red allowed to find amyloid deposition in 12% of autopsy cases in the absence of diagnosing amyloidosis during life; preparations, in which Congo red staining was positive for the presence of amyloid, were taken for inspection in polarizing light and typing of amyloid. Staining of histological preparations with hematoxylin-eosin and Van Gieson revealed a morphological characteristic of diabetic encephalopathy different from that of atherogenic and hypertensive dyscirculatory encephalopathy; using immunological studies, a statistically significant increased content of induced interleukin-1 production, a trigger for the serum amyloid analogue in the liver synthesis, was determined, and an experimental method for beta-amyloid peptide adhesion by monocytes and the density of amyloid expression on the surface of monocytes in patients with diabetic encephalopathy at senile age at 23 times higher than the density of the peptide in the elderly and in the patients with dyscirculatory encephalopathy of the same old age. RESULTS: It has been established that a fairly frequent and early manifestation of metabolic disorders in diabetic encephalopathy is a violation of protein metabolism with its final conformation into toxic amyloid tissue components. These observations indicate the multifactorial nature of diabetic encephalopathy. Literature data on the parametabolism of the serotonin mediator and tryptophan in the pathogenesis of diabetic encephalopathy are presented. CONCLUSIONS: Modern immunological, morphological, and histochemical capabilities make it possible to diagnose the conformation of the protein matrix and develop a protein-centric hypothesis of diabetic encephalopathy.
