Full textThe thesis is based on excerpts of video recordings in teaching situations with children or training situations with adults. Two research questions are at the heart of my analysis: how are the participants sensitive to the fact that they are involved in the same activity? How are mutual intelligibility and common understanding of the current activity accomplished? The study of the achievement of joint attention in spatial co-presence with visualization interfaces appears to be a complex social formation, which brings out the procedural rules and moral responsibilities. Several human phenomena emerge from my analysis: the phenomenon of two social orders that are intrinsicall llnked during the organization of turns at the iwb, the prosodic marking on the first name when selecting the next participant de pen ding on the situation of spatial co-presence and eye contact, and the achievement of the collaborative instruction

Full textNowadays Artificial Intelligence (AI) is omnipresent in our society. The recentdevelopment of learning methods based on deep neural networks alsocalled "Deep Learning" has led to a significant improvement in visual representation models.and textual. In this thesis, we aim to further advance image representation and understanding.Revolving around Visual Semantic Embedding (VSE) approaches, we explore different directions: We present relevant background covering images and textual representation and existing multimodal approaches. We propose novel architectures further improving retrieval capability of VSE and we extend VSE models to novel applications and leverage embedding models to visually ground semantic concept. Finally, we delve into the learning process andin particular the loss function by learning differentiable approximation of ranking based metric

Full textOur research is based on the ACE-ArithmÉcole (Arithmetic and Comprehension at Elementary School) project. The aim of this research is to build a curriculum for mathematics at 1st grade. We focus our study on how this curriculum is elaborated, particularly on the unit entitled “Situations”, that includes lessons on quantities. This unit has been built within a cooperative didactic engineering process, by a team comprising researchers and teachers of the experimental group. Our study is grounded in the theoretical framework developed within the comparative approach of didactics, notably the Joint Action Theory in Didactics. In order to conduct our theoretical analyses, we refer to the following set of notions: learning games, system of capacities, the contract-milieu dialectics and the expression-reticence dialectics. The analysis work is divided into three parts. First, we examine the engineering dialogue between the research team and the experimental teachers. This part aims at showing the importance of the students' continuity of experience through the systems that represent numbers. Second, we study how the research team modifies the unit texts after this dialogue, and how these texts impact the progress of didactic time. We highlight the progressive building of a reciprocal representation game. So as to tackle comparisons between numbers and the notion of difference, a constant back and forth between concrete and abstract representations is needed. These analyses aim at showing how representations are essential to didactic continuity, through a representation translating game all along the curriculum. So, we show how resources in mathematics within the framework of a cooperative work researchers / teachers can be designed. Then, we articulate the two parts with a fine study of effective lessons, implemented according to the unit texts. These lessons are conducted by two trainee teachers and by the class teacher, who is a member of the research team. We demonstrate how the students’ continuity of experience is built, through joint actions, by the use of representation systems. This continuity is necessary to a true mathematical experience for the students. We particularly identify some teaching gestures that are necessary to build this continuity through the use of representation systems

Full textIt has been pointed out, in keeping with the trends that have emerged lately in management research (organisational learning, conflict and contradiction management), which focus on the heterogeneous character of the individual agents logic and the conflict of rationalities, the intersubjective dynamics of a collective body of knowledge as unavoidable constraints to be managed, that the area of representation held pride of place in a fruitful way, because it accounted for the cognitive interactions and the depth of the knowledge at play. Accounting for change processes will then imply describing a set of situations whereby a group of agents , whose interests and perceptions are often diverging, are involved in a confrontation and will come to terms in order to generate another type of perception tools with respect to their own systems of action. One is then no longer in a position to limit oneself to a mere checking of the gap between forecasts and achievements : the management of change will thus require skills for permanent and direct observation and diagnosis. Analysis is then defined by a paradigm of an understanding nature : relations, actions, words and social representations are those elements which are taken into account to monitor and influence the emerging change. With this approach, we offer a methodology which is expected to help the firm implement this concept of social representation

Full textAt the beginning of the 19th century, postrevolutionary France witnessed the invention of a new kind of market : matchmaking. Marriage agencies, which first flourished in Paris, gained new customers. The market grew even further in size as it spread into the classifieds of major newspapers. As early as the middle of the century, it became common knowledge that one could go to an agency or place an advertisement in the newspapers to find a marriage partner. Being a marriage agent or a matchmaker was henceforth a commercial activity, This new business quickly came up against a major challenge. Both intermediaries and their customers found themselves stigmatized because their activity was perceived as a dangerous extension of market activities into the family and the domestic sphere. Despite these negative representations, the dating market was increasingly well stocked andmarriages by advertisement made up a non-négligeable portion of all marriages. This study is organized around three lines of inquiry. The first shows how this contested market developed over the 19th and 20th centuries into a fixture in the social and cultural landscape of french society. It also describes how this new business worked and how people reacted to it . The second presents the evolution of matchmakers’ intermediation practices. Finally, the third analyzes customer expectations and strategies. Three corpora were chosen from across the period under study: the registers of a Parisian agency between 1842 and 1849, the advertisements of a marriage newspaper "L’Alliance des Familles" between 1876 and 1894 and those of "L'lntermédiaire Discret" for the interwar period. The analysis of these corpora opens new avenues for the history of marital choice, and more generally for histories of the couple and of marriage

Full textThis PhD analyses the conditions to advance knowledge in class during a science lesson in higher level of primary school (5th grade,10-year-old pupils) of the French elementary school. The teaching situations concern the phases of the moon. From the analysis of effective practices, this research deduce the determiners of teacher’s action and their role. The determiners analysed are : the knowledge, official instructions and teachers’ representations towards science and science teaching. In order to identify these determiners through effective pratices, their characteristics have been established: an a priori analysis of knowledge, official instructions and practical epistemology of teachers is proposed. A questionnaire aiming at collecting data on teachers’ views of science and sciences teaching have been disseminated at the national leevl. An epistemological study of science approach and knowledge guided the elaboration of items and underlies the analysis the official instructions.. The analysis the teachers’ activities is based on the Joint Action Theory in Didactics (JATD). Additional theoretical tools have been integrated to describe the way knowledge progresses in the classroom : epistemic tasks and modeling levels. These additional concepts allow a detailed analysis of the didactic action including the triple genesis, especially chronogenesis. Our research precises the role of epistemic tasks and modeling levels requested in order to advance knowledge and shows that some determinants act primarily to other, depending on the teachers’ tasks concerning the lesson and the anticipation of students’ actions
