Abstract:

Conversations with René Girard proposes understanding of the work of Girard in all its complexity. The thesis focuses on analyzing the theory of mimetic desire, the relationship between violence and the sacred, and the need for a scapegoat. Three interwoven, united themes surround all the work of Girard, explained for the first time in the Violence and the Sacred essay considered as one of the pillars of Girardian thought. According to Girard, violence intrinsic to humanity, is the desire to control the violence that establishes the passage of the state of nature to the state of culture. The channeling of violence is vital to the existence of societies - archaic and modern. Girard shows us that the way to control violence is possible only by the institution of the sacred, that is through the atoning sacrifice of the victim. For the author, the desire is always mimetic desire : what is desired by the other subject, which raises the rivalry and consequently the violence that needs to be contained

Abstract:
Research about art in Brittany between the beginning and the middle of this century, through the monograph of René Quillivic's work. Born in very simple surroundings, he comes up to Ecole des beaux-arts in Paris by the favour of a local statesman. Since the beginning of his career he gets the war memorial's expert. He knows haw to join academic traditions, realism and regionalism. In 1925, as J. J. Lemordant or the Seiz Breur, but very alone among them, he has share in the Brittany’s art revival, especially in ceramics and wood-engraving. Since 1937, in Paris, his works get less and less estimated among the critics therefore he prefers to turn back about Brittany. After the second war, he appears as the symbol of Breton invention especially for historical, cultural and stylistic opportunities. Indeed, between the first and the second mondial war, when Quillivic's career was at the top, that was just the beginning of a cultural revival in Brittany. His celebrity comes also from his birth in a popular family. His work seems to realise the connexion abetween manual trade and art. But the most important opportunity is his own style: he mingles realism and stylization: faces are generally portraits, volumes and dress are schematized. After the last war, thoughts about an original Breton culture are more and more imperious and René Quillivic appears as the modern Breton sculpture's forefather

A study rene magritte, writing painging on the evolution of rene magritte's (1898-1967) ideas about words and images composed of four parts : "genesis of a painter", "under the sign of the words and the images", "thaught image", "poetry of magritte's art". Evolution towords the combination of words and images to makes visible the true inspirated poetic thaught which tend to end in magrittian conception of "real art of painting", that is a visible poetry. Magritte's art pursue to oblige the thaught, "prisoner", to "think" ("see") and to make free throwout the liberated images. This painting is the material sign of the liberty of the thaught. In this way, it has the same goal as the verbal langage, it is used as a mean pf think. This the most remarkable analogy bethween writing and magritt's painting which trys to be poetic. The research of the poetic thaught lead the artist to the reveal of the thaught as a absolut mystery which becomes incarnate in the picture the two mysteries (1966). That is the materialisation of magritte's pictorial and mental univers who was researcher of the mystery of the world and the life

Le, Cornec Joëlle. "René Char : l'écriture fragmentaire." Rennes 2, 1990. http://www.theses.fr/1990REN20015.

Full text
Abstract:
Fragmentary writing may be considered as an aspect of Charier abstruseness, whereas its elucidation has led to speak of the readibility of Char. A study of the fragment and its established shows that Charier writing, rather than adopting these, in the invention of a form - a writing based on its ruptures and blanks. The second part deals with the way of constructing the meaning. The fragmental here is understood to be the principle of the breaking up. He discovers the creative energy of form, slipt up by the discontinuity, the blank-semantic and graphic - the ellipsis. The third, the imaginary of charier writing: a diairetic object of the image revealed by three mother-figures. A musing of the fragmentation delivers the three axes from imagination: the pulverized, the dislocated (the major and minor tones of the fragment) and the fragile. The architecture of the work however reveals two antinoma forms: the pulverized and the linking showing that the fragment finds a means of becoming connected, though in intratextuality. The metatextualite takes on also the function of cohesion

Renfert, Christof. "René Chars tragische Lyrik." Doctoral thesis, Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, Philosophische Fakultät II, 2005. http://dx.doi.org/10.18452/15216.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this work is to show that the french poet René Char (1907-1988) develops his esthetic comprehension of poetry through the concepts of Nietzsches early work „The birth of tragedy“ and that Chars poetry is essentially tragic. I first analyse the concept of tragic esthetic. Tragic esthetic consists in two principles, the apollinian and the dionysian. These principles constitute the dynamic of tragic esthetic. These principles are other forms of what the european esthetic tradition calls the beautiful and the sublime, and Nietzsches concepts result from this tradition. In a second step I analyse how these principles constitute the basics of Chars poetry. First I analyse the apollinian dimension of his poems, particularly the importance of dream and the surrealistic aspect of Chars poems. Then I analyse deeper the working of the dynamic of these two principles. This esthetic dynamic has to be understood as a transformation of negativity. Transformation of negativity means in Chars poetry first of all a poetic transformation of the nationalsocialist negativity, against which Char fought. By analysing this context, it appeared that Chars poetry contains an ethical dimension, which result from the tragic esthetic. And the heart of this ethical tragic esthetic is justice.

Abstract:
Abstract Recrystallization of equiaxed, directionally solidified and single crystal cast nickel base superalloys can occur during some of the manufacturing and repair processes. While equiaxed, and to a lesser extent, directionally solidified cast nickel-based superalloys have grain boundary strengthening this is nonexistent for single crystal superalloys. Therefore, it is especially important to avoid or limit recrystallization during manufacture and repair of these nickel base single crystal gas turbine components. This study performed by TEServices, EPRI, MD&A and Sulzer concerns the effect of recrystallization when compressive stresses are introduced during manufacturing and repair processes (grit cleaning and shot peening) when followed by (full solution, partial solution and stress relieve) heat treatments. The objective of this paper is to obtain a better understanding the recrystallization behavior of two single crystal superalloys, René N4 and N5, during the repair processes (grit cleaning, shot peening and heat treatments) and determine how to minimize the depth of recrystallization. The impact of recrystallization on mechanical strength (stress rupture and fatigue) on René N4 material was limitedly tested. This study concludes that for both single crystal alloys, René N4 and N5, the less compressive stresses that are introduced during manufacturing and repair, and the lower temperature of exposure during follow up heat treatments, results in a lower recrystallization layer depth.

Abstract:
In this study, single crystal superalloy René N5 was exposed in air at 1150 °C for up to 16 hours to evaluate the alloy’s short-term oxidation behaviour and the potential for developing a no-bond coat TBC system. The results showed that after 1 hour of exposure, a three layered oxide developed on the surface, consisting of spinel, Ta-containing oxide and alumina just above the substrate. After 4 hours of exposure, oxide spallation occurred; this became more pronounced after 16 hours. The oxide spallation took place between the top spinel layer and alumina layer, where Ta-rich oxide was more abundant. All samples tested for 0.5, 1, 2, 4 and 16 hours developed alumina near the substrate while the occurrence of NiO, spinel and Ta-oxides varied, depending upon the exposure time.

Abstract:
Thermal degradation of precipitation-hardened nickel based superalloys has been demonstrated to be reversible through full solution rejuvenation heat treatment processing. The specific concern with full solution rejuvenation heat treatment of single crystal alloys is the formation of recrystallized grains on surfaces with residual stress. The threshold temperature for recrystallization and the effect of heat treatment temperature and time on recrystallization depth were evaluated on service run industrial gas turbine blades comprised of nickel based single crystal alloys René N5 and RR2000. Recrystallization of rejuvenated blades was observed on the root surfaces of blades which had been shot peened at original manufacture and/or during a prior repair. Blades which did not receive peening at manufacture were free of recrystallization in critical areas following full solution rejuvenation heat treatment. Given that gas turbine blade roots operate at relatively low temperatures compared to the airfoil, creep is not considered a life limiting damage mechanism for this region of the blade. Rather, high cycle fatigue is considered the primary damage mechanism of concern. As such, fatigue testing of shot peened and heat treated (recrystallized) René N5 specimens was carried out at 650°C at various stress levels in comparison with baseline (non-recrystallized) specimens to determine the extent to which recrystallization would limit fatigue endurance at blade root operating conditions. It was found that recrystallization did not reduce the fatigue endurance relative to baseline samples at the tested conditions. The findings indicate that repair including full solution rejuvenation heat treatment of previously peened blades comprised of René N5 alloy is feasible provided that recrystallization be limited to root surfaces.

Abstract:
Prominent rent growth indices often give strikingly different measurements of rent inflation. We create new indices from Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) rent microdata using a repeat-rent index methodology and show that this discrepancy is almost entirely explained by differences in rent growth for new tenants relative to the average rent growth for all tenants. Rent inflation for new tenants leads the official BLS rent inflation by four quarters. As rent is the largest component of the consumer price index, this has implications for our understanding of aggregate inflation dynamics and guiding monetary policy. File is available with NTRR and ATRR indices through 2022q3.

Abstract:
Rent measurement determines 32 percent of the CPI. Accurate rent measurement is therefore essential for accurate inflation measurement, but the CPI rent index often differs from alternative measures of rent inflation. Using repeat-rent inflation measures created from CPI microdata, we show that this discrepancy is largely explained by differences in rent growth for new tenants relative to all tenants. New-tenant rent inflation provides information about future all-tenant rent inflation, but the use of new-tenant rents is contraindicated in a cost-of-living index such as the CPI. Nevertheless, policymakers should integrate new-tenant inflation into inflation forecasts and monetary policy decisions.
