Full textTexture synthesis is a technique that algorithmically generates textures at rendering time. The automatic synthesis reduces authoring time and memory requirements since only the algorithm and its parameters need to be stored or transferred. However, two difficulties often arise when using texture synthesis: First, the visualization and parameters selection of synthesized textures are difficult. Second, most synthesizers generate textures in a bitmap format leading to high memory usage. To address these difficulties we propose the following approaches: First, to improve the visualization of synthesized textures we propose the idea of a procedural texture preview: A single static image summarizing in a limited pixel space the appearances produced by a given synthesizer. The main challenge is to ensure that most appearances are visible, are allotted a similar pixel area, and are ordered in a smooth manner throughout the preview. Furthermore, to improve parameters selection we augment sliders controlling parameters with visual previews revealing the changes that will be introduced upon manipulation. Second, to allow user interactions with these visual previews we rely on a fast patch-based synthesizer. This synthesizer achieves a high degree of parallelism and is implemented entirely on the GPU. Finally, rather than generating the output of the synthesizer as a bitmap texture we encode the result in a compact representation and allow to decoding texels from this representation during rendering

Full textDet finns olika metoder för att rendera vektordata i 3D-applikationer. En sådan metod är att rendera datan geometriskt, där polylinje data är tessellerade till geometri som renderas ovanpå en 3D-terräng. Att ha explicit tillgång till linjens geometri är viktigt för applikationer som kräver hög visuell kvalité, eftersom det möjliggör tillämpning av olika effekter på linjedatan. En framträdande visuell artefakt i geometriskt renderad vektordata sker runt korsningar, där det är svårt att göra linjerna sömlösa. I den här uppsatsen presenterar jag en metod som syftar till att ta itu med denna fråga. Genom att skapa specifik geometri för linjekorsningar, och genom att tillämpa flera begränsningar på utformningen av de applicerade texturerna, säkerställer den föreslagna metoden smidig rendering av texturer över komplexa korsningar, inklusive korsningar som angränsar linjer med olika texturer tilldelade dem. För att säkerställa minimal påverkan prestanda vid körning beräknar den föreslagna metoden all nödvändig geometri offline och lagrar den i en statisk vertexbuffer på GPU:n. Vid körningen genereras en separat indexbuffer som används för att referera till de vertricer som krävs för att generera lämplig geometri. Den nämnda metoden stödjer interaktiv tilldelning av texturer till linjedata vid körning, vilket exempelvis kan möjliggöra filtrering och fokusering av vektordata. Empiriska mätningar ges för prestanda, och dessa mätningar visar att metodens påverkan på prestanda är relativt liten, vilket gör den föreslagna metoden till ett genomförbart tillägg till interaktiva system. En kvalitativ jämförelse används för att validera de visuella resultaten, där exempel visar en lyckad rendering av flera korsningar som innehåller en mängd olika texturer. Denna metod banar vägen för eventuellt framtida arbeten, till exempel vid definitioner av texturernas taxonomi, tillsammans med en uppsättning regler som beskriver hur varje grupp av texturer ska dras vid korsningar.

Full textThe object of this dissertation is the study of the design of lace, from the analysis of the constituent elements of visual and technical language, the historical aspects and possible production processes of the samples belonging to the lace collection of Lucy Niemeyer. The collection in question has 186 items of lace, so methods of museology are also treated aiming to safeguarding these items through processes of conservation. Important educational institutions and dedicated museums were identified which promote interaction with the universe of laces with creative practices related to design. The aim is to reflect on contribution of lace to design, ie , the dissertation is concerned with understanding how the textile design found in the items of the collection of laces can contribute to the current design of textiles . This study was conducted by means of qualitative research that delves into the subject with explanatory procedures, bibliographical research, documentary and explanatory case study. The case studies include aspects of cataloging the collection, identifying processes, techniques, imaging, complementary analyses made using a stereoscopic microscope and the reading of the constituent elements of visual and technical language to identify elements that contribute to the development of new products. In conclusion, the world of laces has great potential to contribute to the design, not only textile and fashion, but also in areas such as design for crafts, jewelry and architecture, using visual language of laces in various materials using productive technologies available on the market today, regardless of the scale of production.

Full textThe growing power of graphics processing units (GPU) in mainstream computers creates a need for a higher quality and complexity of virtual scenes. Managing this complexity for natural objects such as trees or grass fields or even animals is painstaking, due to the large amount of small objects decorating their surface. The diversity of such details, mandatory for realistic rendering of natural objects, translates in a longer authoring time, a higher memory requirement and a more complex evaluation. We review in this thesis the related works on data representations and on-the-fly generation methods used for the creation and real-time rendering of details over large surfaces. We focus our study on the particular case of grass fields and fur : the fuzzy visual appearance of those surfaces is obtained by the distribution of many self-similar blades or strands, creating a pattern closely related to a noise with structural features. We first present a procedural noise that aims at spatial modeling of self-similar elements and their distribution. The elliptical Gaussian function used as a modeling primitive and the controlled non-uniform distribution of elements allows for various type of patterns to be modeled, from stochastic to near-regular one, while including structural features. The by-example analysis process based on an ellipse fitting method allows a fast configuration of the noise for patterns reproduction. We further introduce an extension of this noise model for the authoring of procedural shell textures of strand-based or more complex volumetric details. For interactive authoring of such volumetric pattern, an image-order and an object-order rendering methods are proposed, both methods being optimized for an implementation on the GPU. Our rendering methods allow for interactive visualization of a visually-convincing result

Full textA cette problématique de l'utilisation des documents en milieu informatique, nous proposons deux approches complémentaires issues des domaines de l'interaction homme-machine et de la visualisation d'information.
La première approche repose sur le concept de lecture active qui vise à transformer le " lecteur " en " acteur " en lui permettant d'enrichir interactivement les documents qu'il est en train de lire par un ensemble de signes graphiques (surlignages, cerclages, etc.) et d'informations textuelles (notes, commentaires, etc.). L'idée consiste à permettre aux utilisateurs de construire leur propre système de repérage afin de faciliter la compréhension et la réutilisation des documents. Une attention particulière est portée à la manière d'associer ces méta-données " ajoutées " (que nous nommons, d'une manière générique, " annotations ") aux documents sources au moyen de liens hypertextes, ainsi qu'à leur codage informatique dans un format normalisé (dérivé de XML).
La seconde approche consiste à faciliter l'exploration d'espaces documentaires en exploitant les capacités perceptives et mémorielles humaines au moyen de techniques interactives de visualisation. Nous proposons tout d'abord un système de navigation qui repose sur un fort couplage entre vues globales et vues locales pour aider à trouver les documents. Les vues globales montrent l'organisation de l'espace d'information et en permettent un survol rapide. Elles sont utilisées pour atteindre des zones d'intérêts. Les vues locales présentent le contenu de plusieurs documents en contexte afin d'aider l'utilisateur à les comparer et à choisir celui qu'il va consulter. Nous proposons ensuite un environnement visuel de gestion de bookmarks dans le but de pouvoir retrouver le plus simplement possible les documents préalablement consultés. Les utilisateurs organisent leurs bookmarks de la même manière qu'ils le feraient avec un ensemble de documents papiers sur un bureau. Ils définissent interactivement leur propre organisation conceptuelle de l'espace documentaire en se basant sur des propriétés visuelles et spatiales. Ces propriétés aideront les utilisateurs à retrouver plus efficacement les documents sauvegardés par une stimulation de leurs capacités mémorielles.

La recherche traite de la production de sens dans les textes produits en langue portugaise comme seconde (L2) par des ?tudiants sourds de l'?cole municipale Professeur Raimundo Mata de la ville de Catu-BA. Les ?crits sont analys?s ? partir des ?l?ments r?f?rentiels, soulignant l'importance pour les ?tudiants sourds de ma?triser ? la fois la langue de signes br?silienne (LIBRAS) et la langue portugaise ?crite. Afin de traiter l'importance de l'?criture en portugais pour les sourds dans les espaces sociaux, nous nous appuyons sur les ?tudes de Skliar (2009, 2005), Silva (2001), Lodi (2009), F?vero (2003) , Koch (1997), Marcuschi (2008) et Guarinello (2007). Nous avons choisi comme objet d'?tude la forme de r?f?rence du sourd dans ses productions textuelles. A partir du r?cit de film, ont ?t? analys?s deux productions ?crites par deux ?tudiants de la 9?me ann?e d'?tude matinale, tous ?g?s de 19 ans, de l'ann?e scolaire 2016. Nous avons identifi?s les strat?gies utilis?es par ceux-ci dans leurs productions textuelles qui sont responsables de la production de sens et nous apercevons que les sourds ont une forme particuli?re de se r?f?rer en portugais, caract?ris? par une r?f?rence construite plus ? partir des ?l?ments non verbaux que par des ?l?ments strictement verbaux .
Esta pesquisa trata da produ??o de sentido em textos produzidos em l?ngua portuguesa como segunda l?ngua (L2), por alunos surdos, da Escola Municipal Professor Raimundo Mata da cidade de Catu ? BA. S?o analisados os escritos a partir dos elementos referenciais, destacando a import?ncia que tem para o aluno surdo dominar tanto a L?ngua Brasileira de Sinais- LIBRAS, como a l?ngua portuguesa escrita. Para tratarmos da import?ncia que a produ??o escrita em portugu?s tem para o surdo nos espa?os sociais, apropriamo-nos dos estudos de Quadros (1997), Skliar (2009, 2005), Silva (2001), Lodi (2009), F?vero (2003), Koch (1997), Marcuschi (2008) e Guarinello (2007). Elegemos como objeto de estudo o modo como o surdo referencia em suas produ??es textuais. Full textOnline reviewing websites help users decide what to buy or places to go. These platforms allow users to express their opinions using numerical ratings as well as textual comments. The numerical ratings give a coarse idea of the service. On the other hand, textual comments give full details which is tedious for users to read. In this dissertation, we develop novel methods and algorithms to generate personalized, aspect-based summaries of movie reviews for a given user. The first problem we tackle is extracting a set of related words to an aspect from movie reviews. Our evaluation shows that our method is able to extract even unpopular terms that represent an aspect, such as compound terms or abbreviations, as opposed to the methods from the related work. We then study the problem of annotating sentences with aspects, and propose a new method that annotates sentences based on a similarity between the aspect signature and the terms in the sentence. The third problem we tackle is the generation of personalized, aspect-based summaries. We propose an optimization algorithm to maximize the coverage of the aspects the user is interested in and the representativeness of sentences in the summary subject to a length and similarity constraints. Finally, we perform three user studies that show that the approach we propose outperforms the state of art method for generating summaries

In order to building a spoken or written text, regardless of gender that it is being carried out, the speaker uses linguistic features such as semantic-argumentative strategies intending to guide the interlocutor to certain conclusions. The modalization and polyphony, accordingly, are phenomena that allow the speaker to leave printed his subjectivity in the content of the statements, while acting according to his interlocutor. Focusing in these discussions, this investigation aims to show that modalization and polyphony reveal, linguistically, subjectivity in the digest genre, acting therefore as argumentation features. It is a qualitative research, descriptive and interpretative, which adopts the theoretical and methodological principles of Argumentative Semantics. The corpus consists of ten digests collected in six editions of the Jornal de Resenhas, of the Discurso Editorial, ISSN 1984-6282, published in 2009, 2010 and 2012. The theoretical discussions concerning the Argumentation Theory of Language have based in Ducrot (1994, 1987, 1988), Espíndola (2004), Nascimento (2005, 2009), Koch (2006a, 2006b) and others arguing about the theory approach. The modalization is discussed under the postulates of Castilho and Castilho (1993), Koch (2006b), Cervoni (1989), Nascimento (2009), Neves (2011a), Palmer (2011) and García Negroni (2011). Besides, it was used as theoretical basis, Foucault (2011), Bakhtin (2010a, 2010b), Marcuschi (2008) and others to the formulations about the digest genre. The analysis reveals that digesters use modalization and the polyphony of speakers as phenomena that ultimately report the speakers‟ subjectivity in relation to the view of the voices of other speakers, that is, as a discursive strategy that guides the way the text of the digest should be read. Thus, the gender digest is defined as a place of interaction of voices and subjective impressions through which the speaker summarizes praises, criticizes and evaluates the most diverse academic intellectual productions.
Pour construire un texte parlé ou écrit, indépendamment du genre qui réalise, le locuteur utilise des fonctionnalités linguistiques comme les stratégies sémantiques argumentatif afin de guider les appelants à certaines conclusions. La modalisation et la polyphonie, en conséquence, sont des phénomènes qui permettent au locuteur laisser imprimé sa subjectivité dans le contenu des déclarations, tout en agissant en fonction de son interlocuteur. Avec l'accent dans ces discussions, cette recherche vise à ètidier les annonceurs de modalité et de la polyphonie, comme des phénomènes qui révèlent, linguistiquement, la subjectivité dans le genre compte-rendu, s‟agissant, de cette manière, comme des marques d'argumentation. Il est une recherche qualitative, descriptive et interprétative, qui adopte les principes théoriques et méthodologiques de la sémantique argumentative. Le corpus se compose de dix comptes-rendus dans six éditions du Jornal de Resenhas, imprimés par Discurso Editorial, ISSN 1984-6282, publiés en 2009, 2010 et 2012. Pour les discussions théoriques en concernant a la Théorie de L'argumentation de la Langue, nous fundamentons-nous en Ducrot (1994, 1987, 1988), Espíndola (2004), Nascimento (2005, 2009), Koch (2006a, 2006b) et d'autres qui discutent à propos de l'approche de la théorie. La modalisation est discuté sous les postulats de Castilho et Castilho (1993), Koch (2006b), Cervoni (1989), Nascimeto (2009), Neves (2011a), Palmer (2011) et García Negroni (2011). Et on utilise encore comme une base théorique, Foucault (2011), Bakhtin (2010a, 2010b), Marcuschi (2008) et d'autres pour les formulations sur la révision de genre. L'analyse révèle que les examinateurs utilisent la modalisation et la polyphonie des haut-parleurs comme des phénomènes qui relèvent finalement la subjectivité des intervenants des examens par rapport à la vue de la voix des autres orateurs, qui est, comme une stratégie qui guide discoursivement le chemin du texte de comme l'avis doit être lu. Le genre compte-rendu, dans cette recherche est considérée comme un lieu d'interaction des voix et impressions subjectives ainsi à travers laquelle l'orateur résume louanges, critique et évalue plus diverses productions intellectuelles academiques.
Ao construir um texto falado ou escrito, independente do gênero que o realize, o locutor se utiliza de recursos linguísticos como estratégias semântico-argumentativas com a finalidade de orientar o interlocutor para determinadas conclusões. A modalização e a polifonia, nesse sentido, são fenômenos que possibilitam ao locutor deixar impressa a sua subjetividade no conteúdo dos enunciados, ao mesmo tempo em que age em função de seu interlocutor. Com o foco nessa discussão, esta pesquisa objetiva investigar a modalização e a polifonia de locutores como fenômenos que revelam, linguisticamente, a subjetividade no gênero resenha acadêmico-científica, funcionando, portanto, como marcas de argumentação. Trata-se de uma investigação qualitativa, de caráter descritivo e interpretativista, que adota os princípios teórico-metodológicos da Semântica Argumentativa. O corpus é constituído de dez resenhas, coletadas em seis edições do Jornal de Resenhas, da Discurso Editorial, ISSN 1984-6282, publicadas nos anos de 2009, 2010 e 2012. Para as discussões teóricas concernentes à Teoria da Argumentação na Língua, embasamo-nos em Ducrot (1994, 1987, 1988), Espíndola (2004), Nascimento (2005, 2009), Koch (2006a, 2006b) entre outros que discutem a respeito da teoria em abordagem. A modalização é discutida sob os postulados de Castilho e Castilho (1993), Koch (2006b), Cervoni (1989), Nascimento (2009), Neves (2011a), Palmer (2011) e García Negroni (2011). Ainda servem de embasamento teórico, Foucault (2011), Bakhtin (2010a, 2010b), Marcuschi (2008) e outros, para as formulações acerca do gênero textual resenha. As análises revelam que os resenhistas utilizam a modalização e a polifonia de locutores como fenômenos que acabam por denunciar a subjetividade dos locutores das resenhas em relação ao ponto de vista das vozes de outros locutores, ou seja, como uma estratégia que orienta discursivamente a forma como o texto da resenha deve ser lido. O gênero resenha, nesta investigação, é visto como um lugar de interação de vozes e, portanto, de impressões subjetivas, através do qual o locutor resume, elogia, critica e avalia as mais diversas produções intelectuais acadêmicas.
