Full textThe subject under investigation is the syntactic and semantic structure of relative clauses in french, with special interest to relatives with dont. Relatives are sentences which crucially contain two nps : one in the initial non-functional position, the other one in a functional position in s. What is studied here is the set of rules which establish a relationship between these nps. The framework is the following : (1) for the syntactic part, generative grammar, and, more precisely, the "theory of government dans binding", cf chomsky (1981); (2) for the semantic part, a model which is essentially that of predicate logic. I. The relationship between the relative form and the relativized np, which is in a functional position, is anaphoric. Relativized nps are, thus, constrained by the binding principles, which organize the occurrence of anaphoric nps : lexical nps are excluded, phonetically realized pronouns (relative with dont and a pronoun) cannot appear in the same category as their antecedent (dont), empty nps may appear in the same category as their antecedent or in a different one. The relation is either a chain, which is a form of anaphoric relation, or a partitive anaphoric relation. Relative chains obey one of the two following conditions : they obey subjacency, or one of the elements is marked for case. The other type combines two structures : ans with an initial de gn, and an anaphoric relation between an np interpreted as totality and an np interpreted as a part. Ii. Relative clauses are translated as predicates, which are applied to the relative form. There are two cases : (a) the relative clause and the relative form are, respectively, translated as a predicate and the corresponding first argument; (b) the construction relies on a semantic relation between a whole (the relative form) and a part (an expression contained in the relative clause). The result of the operation is to insert a property within the sum of properties which constitute the sense of the np (the relative form, and, consequently, the antecedent of the relative clause); either the property enters into relation with the other properties or it does not; if it does not, the semantics is that of predication

Full textAs China rises and becomes a global power, its foreign and economic policies are undergoing profound changes. Today Chinese interest spans the world, from the most remote corners of Africa to the mega cities of other new rising powers like Brazil. Chinas growing presence in Portuguese-speaking countries provides a vivid illustration of the growing complexity and sophistication of Chinas new foreign and economic policies. Sino-Lusophone relations confirm some of the assumptions made about Beijings relations with the developing world. However, this case study also reveals many incorrect assumptions and simplistic analyses of Chinas foreign and economic policies toward the developing world.

Full textThis research is questioning the relation that young adolescent have with otherness : inter-group relations and friendship relations. Concerning inter group relations , we have wished to question the existence of an "ethnical" discrimination among French children. Anderson's Functional Theory of Cognition enables us to find ethnical and socio cultural features that leads to acceptation or rejection of the other. Territorial origin, language, economic level, clothes and manner of eating appear to be judgement criterias that might lead to the rejection of the other. On the other hand, children do not take into account skin colour or religion to make a decision. The second part of this work deals with friendship between children and shows motivations for choosing a "different" friend. Investigation from Apter's Reversal Theory brings to light Alloïc and Sympathy motivations. Finally, this work leads to the creation of an evaluation device for children's relationships. This device will allow to analyze seven aspects of children's social relationships : xenophile norm's internalization ; friendship' sublimation ; the importance of time spent playing or talking with the friend ; the affection granted by friendship ; school life ; consideration of others' emotions and rules transgression

One of the fundamental issues in cognitive science is the problem of grounding concepts in the perceptual world. In this thesis, I present a computational theory for how spatial relations are grounded in the perceptual world. Three constraints are critical to this theory: abstractness, groundedness and flexibility all of which need to be satisfied in order to explain the structure of spatial concepts. I then show how a formal framework, based on the mathematical notions of category theory can be used to model the grounding problem. The key computational ideas are that of minimal mapping and derivations. A minimal mapping of two categories, A and B, is the "smallest' category, C, that contains A and B. A derivation is a sequence of categories that follow a minimal mapping rule. Derivations and minimal mappings are used to model three domains - the semantics of prepositions, the structure of a toy "Jigsaw World" and the semantics of generic terms and quantifiers. In each case, I show how the computational theory gives rise to insights that are not available upon a purely empirical analysis. In particular, the derivational account shows the importance of stable, non-accidental features and of multiple scales in spatial cognition.

Full textBased on the original French and South African archives, this dissertation examines the relationship between France and South Africa under the administration of Charles de Gaulle et Georges Pomidou. Several elements explain why this relation may be qualified as « special »: the fact that South Africa didn’t belong to the traditional zone of French influence, the context in which this relation emerges (the process of decolonization along with the international condemnation of the regime of apartheid), its specialization (the close cooperation in the military and nuclear field) and its official atypical frame. Divided into four chronological parts, the dissertation presents the evolution of this « special relationship » and its different dimensions: bilateral (relations in military, nuclear and economic field), regional (relations in Southern Africa, in zone of the Indian Ocean and in Africa) and multilateral (debats at UN, IMF and EEC). By analyzing the discussions within the French institutions and the statements in international arena, this study reconstructs the ambiguous attitude of France towards the question of apartheid, the contradictions of the French policy of national independence as well of the French African policy. While the dissertation emphasizes the official framework, it also tempts to analyses the role of intermediates (parliamentarians, enterprises and military industry) in the conduct of French policy towards South Africa

Full textInternational relations have highlighted the integrating role of political dialogue in promoting objectives of national interests, commitments and perceptions of the State, and non-governmental organizations. Studies on the relationship between the EU and Mexico have established that there has been a genuine transformation of the political relationship because of the signing of the Global Agreement. From the early years, those studies focused on describing the perceptions of negotiation, the legal-normative framework, and the perspective that has complemented the new features of the relationship: namely, political dialogue and cooperation. In general, the common opinion seems to facilitate dialogue and different proposals that define cooperation, despite the ambiguity of the situation resulting from the complexity of communication between partners. The objective of this research is to analyze the interactions within the political dialogue aimed at deepening the bilateral relationship but also to analyze its components and forms of dialogue established by the Mexican and European authorities. Second, given the need for maintaining a joint bilateral agreement, it is important to review the nature of cooperation. This study highlights the special case of collaboration between Germany and Mexico, with the aim of presenting the effects of the relationship in different terms. In other words, there are new forms of collaboration distinguished by consensual action in order to benefit from wider participation. In this process one cannot leave out non-governmental organizations that have ties with different levels of government and institutions, which highlights the activities of transnational epistemic communities through coalitions and networks that emerge between the actors

Full text@Up to now, it is mainly the romanization of Hispania through the aspect of urbanization and municipalization that has held the attention of searchers as is shown by recent historiography. Family and social relations in the provinces as a whole and in the Iberian peninsula particularly have merely aroused a polite interest with historians, perhaps because it was thought that they pertained essentially to the private filed often considered as the conservatory of the pre-Roman usages. Yet, the joint rising of the studies devoted to the anthropology of kinship, on one side, and regional onomastics. Celtic especially, on the other side, suggests that the history of the family is a field of investigation very near, indeed, to customs, but still nearer to the political. From that point of view, Hispania, whose legal and urban frame is better and better known, gathers every suitable condition to carry on an original investigation about the connection of family and social relationship with romanization : how did Hispano-roman communities adapt themselsves to the introduction of civitas and its corollary, Latin law. ? After successively studying the fitting of the Roman terminology about kinship to those new territories, noting the interpretation of Roman onomastic formulae according to the status of the individuals and its seniority, and closely examining the various attitudes in front of the neww territorial definition, we shall conclude that the acculturation, at once slow and quick, was not uniform and less one-sided

Full textThe principal object of this thesis is to demonstrate the relationship between Iran and Europe since the Change of Iran's political system in 1979. First of all, we will explain Iran's relationship with three important european countries, that is France, Germany and England, during the war between Iran-Iraq. This followes the period between 1979 and 1992, when there was no relationship between Iran and the European Union. Next, we explain the development of the relationship between Iran and the E. U. From 1992 until 2003, taking in to accont the critical and global dialogue between these two protagonists and underlining the importance to Iran of the conditions laid down by Europe : respect for human rights, etc. In effect, the coming to power of an islamic regime has completely changed the political orientation of Iran's foreign policy. The domination of idealogical criteria, resulting in an islamic slant to international policy, has caused a major upheaval in relations between Iran and Europe, as well as the United States of America. The result has been the isolation of Iran on the international political landscape. But because of a divergence in views between the USA and Europe in matters of international policy, Iran has tried to exploit this situation in order to develop its relationship with the E. U. Since 1992 despite the U. S. A. Remaining hostil to this development. On the other hand, because of Europe's strategic need for Iran, the E. U. , has resisted americain pressure to end the critical dialogue (from 1992 to 1997) and the global dialogue (from 1998 until now) with the iranian gouvernment. Despite a tense and contradictory relations between Teheran and certain european nations during the Iran-Iraq war, the normalisation of Iran's diplomatic relationship, during the time of the Rafsanjani and Khatami gouverments, with Europe was the only option for the iranian administration if a provisional solution to the deep crisis in Iran's political, economic and social life was to be found. Neverthless, the recent agreement (2003) between Europe and U. S. A. , on the subject of Iran's atomic ambitions, has demonstrated that Iran can no longer use diverging between these two worlds powers as an answer to its internal and external problems. This is why, since 2003, the relationship between Iran and Europe has entered a new phase

Background: Relation means the relationship between two parts. By creating a good relation between nurse and patient you can conduce a better caring. Aim: The aim of the study was to illustrate the relation within palliative care from nurse- patient perspective. Method: The study is a literature review where ten articles were analysed with qualitative content analysis. Results: The findings showed that knowledge, communication, continuity, silence and availability were the most important thing for the nurse in the relationship. Energy, regular contacts, having time and the nurse being able to listen was most important for the patient. In the encounter between the nurse and patient, communication is fundamental for understanding in the conversation where the patient tried to find information about treatment, medicament and the illness. The most valuable was being able to talk about feelings. You must get to know the patient as the person he is to be able to know his interests and what he considers important. Continuity is a prerequisite to make the patient feel safe and secure. Conclusion: Being able to pay attention to unspoken needs and understanding why the patient reacts the way he does is a proof that knowledge has appeared.
Keywords: Relationship, relation nurse – patient, communication, palliative care.
