Abstract:
This study speaks about the theme of biblical prophetism in Micah (Mic 3,9-12). In a devastated land, where there are no more prophets, the rescue of prophetism as a mission to denounce injustice and announce the right, more specifically in relation to the vulnerable, is justified. The objective of this study is to understand the prophetic acts of Micah, appropriating them as a key for reading today, in the light of the History of Salvation, conceptualizing resistance as a rescue of the human relationship with the earth, as a sacred connection with the Promise of God to his People. This intent will be achieved through a bibliographic review and a biblical-theological approach, seeking to reflect and rescue the meaning of the text according to the historical context experienced with the political-religious leaders in Micah (Mic 3,9-12). In investigating the rupture of the Alliance, loss of land ownership, loss of the bond as a nation in Israel, experienced by contemporary peasants to Micah, it seeks to delimit the responsibility for the relativization of the right to land as a sacred alliance, and consequent loss of the condition of identity as People of God. Results: The study seeks to demonstrate the social function of the prophet as a decoder of the historical, timeless moment, driven by the force of indignation, from which comes his resistance, not solitary, but, solidary, supported by the collective and community dream, organized and possible. Final Considerations: The research intends to base biblically and theologically the rescue of human dignity in urban peripheries, building the just city, founded on urban agroecology and the bliss of simplicity.

Abstract:
Starting with the very simplified overview of reception of the Old Testament in the Gospel of Matthew, the author aims to make the use of the two quotations from the collection of the Book of the Twelve more concrete. The first quote is from the Book of prophet Micah (5:1). It also appears in Mt (2:6), in relation to the birthplace of Jesus Christ, while the second quote is found in the Book of prophet Zechariah (13:7) and it tackles the shepherd metaphor (Mt 36:31). In the first case, we are putting the emphasis on the change concerning the reading of the Old Testament, having in mind that the Greek text of Micah brings the phrase: ὀligostὸs eἶ toῦ eἶnai ἐn chiliάsin Ioyda ("though you are small among the clans of Judah''), while the author of the Gospel of Matthew reads it with the help of the litotes ὐdamῶs ἐlachίse eἶ ἐn toῖs ἡgemόsin Ἰoύda ("by no means least among the rulers of Judah''). At last, we conclude that Bethlehem cannot be in any case perceived as it was before, as 'from you will come the one who leads, who will take care of my people of Israel' (ἐc soῦ gὰr ἐxeleύsetai ἡgoύmenos, ὅstis poimaneῖ tὸn laόn moy tὸn Ἰsraήl). As for the reception of Zechariah (13:7) in Mt (26:31), we should consider the quote that appears also in Mk (14:27). The quote in the Gospel of Matthew is under strong influence of the Masoretic Text and the Damascus Document, with further distancing from Septuagint and Targum. At the same time, there is a parallel drawn between the prophecies of Peter's abstinence, and the Christological reason is given (ἐn ἐmoὶ) for dispersing of the Apostles, which is the case in Mt (11:6; 13:56) as well. Apart from being drastically shortened in comparison to the first place of the appearance, the quote in the Gospel of Matthew brings the whole spectrum of philological virtues that brings it closer to the (possible) Hebrew Vorlage (Original).

Abstract:
The Zimbabwean Catholic Bishops’ Conference issued a pastoral letter on 14 August 2020. Its title, “The March is not Ended”, echoed the words of the late American civil right activist and politician John Robert Lewis. In the introduction, the bishops reminded their fellow citizens that “Peace building and nation-building are never completed tasks. Every generation has to establish national cohesion and peace”. In using the biblical text from Micah 7:1–6 where the prophet denounced corruption and oppression in his own days, the bishops took a swipe at Zimbabwean political leaders. African politicians never take responsibility for their misrule of the continent, which has kept Africa largely underdeveloped. The perplexity of the situation in Zimbabwe is reflective of similar situations in other parts of sub-Saharan Africa where leaders look the other way and shift blames. This research undertakes to explore how the Catholic Church in Africa has fared in its prophetic mission in relation to the political-cum-socioeconomic questions on the continent. It will acknowledge instances where the Church, through certain prelates, has proven itself to be a moral conscience. It will also indicate how the efforts of African bishops closely align with those of Pope Francis in relation to the prophetic mission of the Church as a defender of truth, human rights and social justice. Contribution: Africans, like most people in the world, have a very simple vision of the good life: to live in reasonable material comfort and in peace. This research is essentially anchored within Catholic social teaching. It underscores how the Catholic Church in Africa has defended and continues to uphold the rights of the people to actualize their aspiration of a simple good life in a hostile and self-serving African political and socioeconomic context. It notes that the Church cannot take the place of political leaders because its role is basically the promotion of the common good, which includes public order and peace, development, equality, justice and solidarity.

Abstract:
The universal definition of acute myocardial infarction (MI) requires both evidence of myocardial injury and myocardial ischaemia. In MINOCA (MI with non-obstructive coronary arteries), patients must fulfil this MI criteria, but is their chest pain similar to those who have MI with obstructive CAD (MICAD)? This study compares prospectively collected chest pain features between patients with MINOCA and MICAD. Utilising the Coronary Angiogram Database of South Australia (CADOSA), consecutive MI patients were categorized as MINOCA or MICAD based on angiographic findings. Chest pain data were collected via direct patient interviews by trained staff members. Of 6811 consecutive patients fulfilling a clinical MI diagnosis, 411 (6.0%) were MINOCA, and 5948 MICAD. The MINOCA patients were younger, more often female and had less cardiovascular risk factors than those with MICAD. There were no significant differences in chest pain characteristics between the MINOCA and MICAD cohorts in relation to pain location, quality, associated symptoms, or duration. In conclusion, MINOCA patients have chest pain characteristics that are indistinguishable from MICAD patients, suggesting that their pain is ischaemic in nature. Thus, in the presence of positive myocardial injury markers, ischaemic chest pain fulfils the universal criteria for MI, despite the absence of obstructive coronary artery disease.

Abstract:
Abstract Hormone receptor-positive (HR+), HER2 negative (HER2−) breast cancer has a long-term risk of recurrence, compared with other breast cancer subtypes, which ultimately impacts mortality outcomes. Although adjuvant endocrine therapy plays an integral role in risk reduction, disparities persist—with Black women experiencing higher mortality rates compared to White women. Multiple studies have demonstrated that statin use can lead to a reduction in breast cancer mortality, but there is limited information in relation to the impact of statins among diverse patient populations in the United States. To assess whether statin use is associated with an improvement in breast cancer-specific mortality (BCSM), we conducted a large, observational study in women aged 66 and older diagnosed with Stage I–IIIC HR+, HER2- breast cancer between 2013 and 2017. We identified eligible women using the SEER-Medicare database and linked them to the BRIDGE (BReast cancer Investigation of Disparities in GEorgia) cohort, a survivorship cohort of the Georgia Cancer Registry. Patients needed to be continuously enrolled in Medicare Parts A, B, and D in the 12 months following a breast cancer diagnosis. We used Cox proportional hazards models to estimate the impact of statin use within 12 months of diagnosis on BCSM with adjustment for age, stage, and race using multivariable-adjusted hazard ratios (HRs). A total of 2483 participants were identified, and of those, 303 (12.2%) were statin users, 383 (15.4%) were non-Hispanic Black women, and 1564 (63%) resided in census tract with greater than or equal to 10% poverty levels at the time of diagnosis. Distribution of age, stage, and race were similar between statin and non-statin users. Of the statin users, 41/303 (13.5%) were non-Hispanic Black women. The majority of statin users were prescribed lipophilic statins alone (169; 55.8%), and atorvastatin was the most commonly prescribed statin. There was no association between statin use and BCSM (HR 1.09; 95% CI 0.62-1.90) in the multivariable-adjusted model. Although preliminary results suggest that there is no association between statin use and BCSM among women with Stage I–IIIC HR+, HER2− breast cancer, further analyses are planned to explore statin use as a time-varying exposure, which may provide additional insights into the potential relationship between statin use and BCSM. In addition, analyses examining potential heterogeneity by race, tumor and treatment characteristics, and comorbidities are forthcoming. Given the low cost and relative accessibility of statins, we anticipate these findings will inform the clinical management of women with operable breast cancer, increasing parity in outcomes and potentially narrowing race disparities. Abstract:
AbstractA combination of ion-microprobe (for Li) and electron-microprobe (for other major elements including F) methods has been used to analyse Li-rich micas from the S.W. England batholith (mainly the St Austell granite) and the Massif Central, France. Rocks showing various degrees of hydrothermal alteration were studied in order to separate the original compositional trends from alteration trends. The original compositional trend is essentially one of increasing Li with increasing degree of evolution. The main atomic substitution in the original micas is 3Li substituting for A1 and 2 vacancies in octahedral sites; substitution of Li forR2+(Fe, Mn, Mg) in octahedral co-ordination is generally subordinate. Alteration trends involve a loss of Li, Fe, F, Rb and Cs, and a gain in A1. The effects of volatile elements on phase relations of granites are reviewed and it is concluded that the original Li-micas were primary, i.e. crystallized from the melt. It is suggested that the late-magmatic stage passed transitionally into the hydrothermal stage leading inevitably to subsolidus recrystallization (autometasomatism) of the primary minerals, so introducing further textural and mineralogical complexities to the rocks.

Abstract:
AbstractA major disadvantage of the electron microprobe is its inability to determine Li, which may make up an essential component in micaceous minerals. Correct classification of micas and proper calculation of their formulae require alternative methods. One of these is the indirect estimation of the lithium concentration by empirical approaches based on element correlations. Relationships between Li2O and SiO2 have long been used for this purpose; however, they are valid only for a limited range of mica compositions (i.e. Li-rich, Mg-poor varieties). In this paper we report the results from a renewed study of the correlation between Li2O and MgO contents in trioctahedral micas. It is demonstrated that the relations between both oxides are strongly dependent upon the geological environment in which the mica was formed. It is necessary to distinguish a ‘normal group’, which comprises micas from ‘common’ S- and I-type magmatic rocks and most metamorphic rocks , a ‘low Li-Mg group’, to which belong Fe-rich micas from non-alkaline rocks of A-type affinity, and a ‘high Li-Mg group’ which includes micas from either peraluminous or peralkaline igneous rocks and Mg-enriched wall-rocks. These wall rocks supplied additional magnesium to the mica-forming environment. We offer empirical expressions relating Li2O and MgO contents for these three types which, in many cases, allow a sufficiently good estimation of the lithium content in trioctahedral micas of widely varying compositions.

Abstract:
AbstractOver the last 50 years many definitions of element substitution series have been proposed for describing natural Fe-Li micas with complex chemical compositions. In order to compare these definitions and ascertain their reliability, a new geometric frame composed of ideal mica points, mica joins (segments), substitution vectors and substitution planes is constructed to express the entire substitution system of ideal Fe-Al-Li micas. The frame is built in composition space with the coordinate system (0; Si, AlVI AlIV, Fe2+, Li, □VI, K), but has a 3-dimensional analogue, i.e. a visual image.Using this frame, it has been proved that there are only five possible types of replacement for definitions of Fe-Li micas, and that all possible types have been suggested except the AlIV-constant. Furthermore, it has been proved that the main point in different definitions is that the replacement of Li by Fe2+ needs to be balanced with AlIV, AlVI, or □VI. In order to solve this problem, a set of formulae determining spatial relations between geometric elements in the frame is suggested. With these formulae, the abstract frame is suggested to be a datum system used to ascertain quantitatively the reliability of definition of natural Fe-Li micas.

Abstract:

Equilibrium data at low and high pressures are important to correct establish conditions of temperature and pressure for separation processes, and to supply the capacity of the solvent, the compositions of the phases and the selectivity of the solvent. The separation of ethanol-water system is of great importance for the industry due to numerous applications of anhydrous ethanol. In all of these applications, ethanol must be free of water and it is necessary to add a third component in the distillation to break the azeotrope. It can be add different solvents, as benzene, hexane, ethyleneglycol, salts, and, in the last years, many studies have been done with ionic liquids. So, the purpose of this work is to use an ionic liquid (1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride) as the third component, looking for the ethanol dehydration. Because of that, it was done a study to evaluate the effect of this ionic liquid in the liquid-vapor equilibrium behavior between water and ethanol. Experimental data were measured, in triplicate, under normal pressure, in an Othmer-type ebulliometer (300 mL of volume), with two condensers, and made of borosilicate glass. The sample analysis was done in a digital densimeter. The ionic liquid used was recovered from one solution to another, just by adding the required amount to complete each mass fraction. Experimental data was measured with ethanol-water solutions varying the molar concentrations from 0.2 to 0.99, and ionic liquid weight fraction masses from 5 to 60%, to evaluate the behavior of the equilibrium data of the ethanol+water+[emim][Cl] system. The experiments showed that [emim][Cl] with a minimum mass fraction of 20% is a promising solvent because it could ?break? the azeotrope between water and ethanol, and higher mass fraction of ionic liquid were better to enrich the vapor phase in ethanol. NRTL model was used to correlate experimental vapor-liquid equilibrium of the ternary system, estimating the binary parameters, applying the bubble point methodology. The deviations of temperature and vapor phase composition were 0.147 ?C and 0.049, respectively. The relative volatility was greater than 1 for the mass fractions from 20%. The activity coefficients decrease with the increase in the molar concentration of ethanol. Values of the excess Gibbs free energy show a positive deviation for all mass fractions worked, and the experimental data were consistent thermodynamically

The area of Education in Chemistry in Brazil has appeared over 30 years and its growth has been accelerated by the need of comprehension of the processes of teaching and learning in chemistry. Many researches, in this area, has among its investigation objects the teaching tools like teaching materials and the learning processes of students in high school and basic education, but when dealing with higher levels of education, they are seldom portrayed. This study aimed to investigate the General Chemistry textbooks with respect to approach the concept of energy; know the main ideas of graduate students in Chemistry on the relation of the concept of energy and chemical transformations; finally, developing a cicle of studies with the proposition of an approach wich inter-relate the concept of energy and its implications in the teaching-learning process of a chemical transformation. To do so, we used as instruments a questionnaire, press conference, conceptual map and experimental activities. All activities of the study cicle were videotaped and recorded, transcribed and the results organized in tables. For the activities of the study cicle texts that have been developed and inter-relating concepts of chemistry and energy, which in turn gave theoretical support to the activities in the cycle. In the analysis it was used as a theoretical content the analysis of Laurence Bardin. The results revealed that the analysis of the book might be perceived that not always the concept of energy is used in order to generate the abstract thought of chemical transformations, but that the main macroscopic thermodynamic variables are present in the explanation of these transformations. During the study cicle, were studied two chemical reactions: the first one, made possible to approach the macroscopic dimension to quantify the concept of energy and the second one, made possible to demonstrate the macro and microscopic dimension of the concept of energy during a chemical transformation. In all reactions proposed, students used, in most of the times, as explanations, only macroscopic observations of the reactions under study and failed to realize that the concept of energy can be used to explain macro and microscopic chemical transformation. As a final action of the study cicle, students requested further discussion, to clarify the link between the concept of energy and the meanings constructed in the process of studying the reactions. This is done through an oral explanation, during the cycle, and registered in this thesis and attempts to show the interrelationship existing conceptual

Earth's operational orbiting satellites are very useful for space science because it has great features as these services enable research and space explorations for scientific, commercial, and military interests as well. However, the increasing flow of space activities has increased the amount of debris orbiting in the operating regions, thereby increasing the chances of collisions in those areas, and allowing immeasurable damages if the satellite remains in this collision orbit. In view of the large number of operational objects, the study of evasive maneuvers for space vehicles has been growing, and this one is important in face of the possibility of collisions, not only with a single debris but with clouds of space debris. The objective of the evasive maneuver is to avoid collision, but by keeping the vehicle in its orbit nominally. The history of the phenomenon, that is, how it evolves over time, is found when the differential equation that represents the phenomenon is solved. From the point of view of Physics and Mathematics, the more realistic the model, the more difficult is the solution of the differential equations representing the phenomenon. Thus, this work seeks to present the analytical and semi-analytical solutions for the equations describing the relative dynamics between two bodies subjected to gravitational force, Chohessy-Wiltshire equations, under the influence of forces: gravitational, atmospheric drag, chemical propulsion ( exponential model and linear model), atmospheric drag plus chemical propulsion and plasma propulsion, and finally present their respective computational simulations. These simulations made it possible to show what happens to the operational satellites against a collision, for each specified model. With the contribution of the development of the atmospheric drag equation, with the drag coefficient varying

Abstract:
This thesis examines how local leaders in Detroit, Michigan attempted to use the Detroit Tigers' World Series victory in 1968 to repair the city's image following the 1967 riot. First, this study looks at the history of race relations in Detroit, beginning with the founding of the city in 1701. Second, it analyzes the 1967 riot, which, up to that point, was the most destructive urban riot in American history. Finally, this thesis examines the public relations campaign of local leaders in 1968. They tried, unsuccessfully, to convince the public that Detroit's race relations could be healed through a sense of unity that the Tigers' success brought about. This study argues that Detroit's racial problems ran too deep and lasted for too long for a single, transient sporting event to have any sort of permanent effect.

The work seeks to understand the process of reterritorialization triggered by tourism development in Tibau do Sul / RN, noting its economic, socio-cultural and political implications to the local society. Tourist activity was addressed as socio-cultural phenomenon, considering the case of (dis) (re) territorialization and power relations between staff producers of the tourism space. Given the complexity of this issue and the need for further studies that focus on the reterritorialization cases generated by tourism in the northeastern coast, given the action of the agents involved in the construction of the spaces generated by tourism, this work is then justified. For such a study an exploratory and qualitative study was conducted, through a survey of secondary and primary data, and interviews with leaders of public, private nonprofit community in the investigated county. In this sense, it was found that the process of (dis) (re) territorialization in the city investigated, permeates the contradictions resulting from the conflicts existing power while providing the location and implications for economic and sociocultural dimensions, its heart is found in the political, the relationship between entrepreneurship - established mainly by outsiders who own businesses in Pipa - and local government - composed entirely by insiders who work in the municipal headquarters, that until then, hold the political and the economic power. Thus, to understand the regionalization of tourism it is necessary to analyze its economic, socio-cultural and political dimensions, referring to the complexity of relationships between producing space agents. It is believed that the reterritorialization can be capable of producing territorialities contextualized to the culture, history, economy and local politics, understanding that the active participation of the natives will contribute to a less perverse, since this has been one of the faces experienced by local people

Abstract:
The aim of our research was to explore 1) the polymorphism of the TAP genes and 2) the tissue expression and release of MICA in several inflammatory diseases differing in their cause and mechanisms. Ln the first part of this research, we determined six coding region variants, i. E. , codon 333 and 637 in TAPt gene and 379, 565, 651, 665 in TAP2 gene, to study the association of TAP polymorphism in French patients with 3 types of inflammatory diseases : a) ln Alveolar echinococcosis (AE), Thr/Thr homozygosity at TAP2/665 was significantly more frequent than in controls ; furthermore, patients with progressive lesions were more frequently Thr/Thr homozygote at TAP2/665, independently of the HLA-DR3 status ; b) ln Rheumatoid Arlhritis (RA), Thr and Cys homozygosity and heterozygosit:y at position 565 and 651 in TAP2 gene respectively was more frequent than in controls ; there was no linkage disequilibrium between DRB1 * RA-associated alleles and amino acid substitution Thr565, whereas Cys651 was dependent of HLA-DRB1 *04, a strongly RA-linked allele ; c) ln Type-1 diabetes the observed association with TAP2/651 (TAP2F) was obviously secondary to HLA-DR4. Ln the second part of this research, we studied MICA expression on liver sections, and measured soluble MICA in serum samples of patients with AE and in patients with alcoholic cirrhosis. Ln normal controls, a constitutive faint expression of MICA was observed in the cytoplasm of the hepatic cells and apical membrane of bile duct cells. Ln the livers from cirrhotic patients, hepatic cells of the regeneration nodules and bile duct cells were heavily stained by the anti-MICA MoAb. Both ceIl type exhibited CD57 expression. Ln AE, the germinal layer of Echinococcus multilocularis was stained by the anti-MICA MoAb as well as CD 68+ epithelioid cells, macrophages and giant cells within the granuloma. Endothelial cells, bile duct and hepatic cell cytoplasm were stained intensively. CD8 T cells appeared more numerous where hepatic cells expressed MICA. Figures of close contacts between MICA+ hepatic cells and CD8+ T lymphocytes, and apoptotic changes in hepatocytes at the border of the granuloma, were observed. No soluble MlCA was found in the sera from patients with the studied liver diseases, whereas we found significant amount of MICA in the serum form patients with celiac disease. Our findings indicate that 1) association between TAP polymorphism and auto-immune diseases is frequently due to a linkage disequilibrium with HLA class II genes, and in infectious or autoimmune diseases, when found independently, its role, if any, is unclear ; 2) chronic liver aggressions are associated with a marked expression of MICA, but unlike celiac disease, they are not accompanied by MICA release in the serum. Further studies are needed to elucidate the role of MICA-NKG2D interactions in such diseases

Abstract:
AbstractSoil potassium (K) has traditionally been portrayed as residing in four functional pools: solution K, exchangeable K, interlayer (sometimes referred to as “fixed” or “nonexchangeable”) K, and structural K in primary minerals. However, this four-pool model and associated terminology have created confusion in understanding the dynamics of K supply to plants and the fate of K returned to the soil in fertilizers, residues, or waste products. This chapter presents an alternative framework to depict soil K pools. The framework distinguishes between micas and feldspars as K-bearing primary minerals, based on the presence of K in interlayer positions or three-dimensional framework structures, respectively; identifies a pool of K in neoformed secondary minerals that can include fertilizer reaction products; and replaces the “exchangeable” K pool with a pool defined as “surface-adsorbed” K, identifying where the K is located and the mechanism by which it is held rather than identification based on particular soil testing procedures. In this chapter, we discuss these K pools and their behavior in relation to plant K acquisition and soil K dynamics.

Abstract:
Geological studies have been performed using the Band Ratios (BR), Relative Band Depth (RBD), Mineral Indices (MI), Principal Component Analysis (PCA), Independent Component Analysis (ICA), lithological and mineral classification techniques from Short-Wave Infrared (SWIR) and Thermal Infrared (TIR) data. The chapter aims to delineate various geological units present in the area using the combination of SWIR and TIR ASTER bands through the Feature-Oriented Principal Component Selection (FPCS) technique. Different BRs and RBDs were applied to map the minerals having Al-OH and Mg-OH compounds with the chemical composition of clay (kaolinite, smectite), mica (sericite, muscovite, illite), ultramafic (lizardite, antigorite, chrysotile), talc, and carbonate (dolomite) from SWIR bands. The MI was used to map quartz-rich, mafic/ultramafic, and carbonate rocks using TIR bands. The BRs, RBDs, and MIs mapped the geological units but every single greyscale image showed a variety of features. To compile these features False Color Composite (FCC) was prepared by the combination of RBDs and MIs in the R:G:B channels which demarked various geological units to a larger extent present in the region. To overcome the limitation, the FPCS technique was applied with the integration of all BRs, RBDs, and MIs. The FPCS technique extracts valuable information from different input bands and shifts the information in the first few bands. The generated eigenvalues and eigenvectors represented the retrieved information in the specific band. The loadings of the eigenvector were used for the selection of the different brands to create the FCC for the delineation of geological strata. The best discrimination was made by the selection of FPCS1, FPCS3, and FPCS6 which differentiated all the geological units like ultramafics, dolomites, thin bands of talc, and muscovite and illite (as phyllite and mica-schist), silica-rich rocks (as quartzite), and granite outcrops.

Abstract:
Carried out research and general conclusions of available material indicated, that the role of diamondiferous kimberlites decreases in the direction from the center of the Siberian platform and towards its northern territories. In the northern part of the platform alkaline picrites dominate, while in the central diamondiferous regions kimberlites formed in the range of the whole area of diamond stability. Among more than 30 diamondiferous regions of the Siberian platform some contain enriched by micas kimberlites, bright repre-sentatives of which are rocks of the Nakyn field diatremes (Botuobinskaya, Nyurbinska-ya and body Maiskoye). The rocks of this field pipes belong to one petrochemical type of kimberlites, and the defined concentration variations of petrogenic oxides are related with different intensity of postmagmatic and hypergene processes’ occurrence at different depths of diatremes. Sufficient alteration of kimberlites, with broad development of ser-pentine, carbonates, phlogopite and products of its alteration – chlorite, take place during indicated stages of diatremes formation. Correlation analysis of minerals-neoformations’ distribution with potential diamondiferousness of kimberlites indicated inverse relation-ship of mica, quartz and dolomite grade with concentration of useful component. Preva-lence of transparent (or semitransparent) diamonds of octahedral to rhombic dodecahedral habit of variety I is a typical feature of investigated micaceous kimberlites, at noticeable content of crystals with variety IV envelope (cover).

Abstract:
This article presents an alternative procedure for in-situ strength profiling the supporting soil volume of offshore foundation structures. A particular focus is placed on coarse-grained materials with large fines and mica content. Soil types which are generally encountered offshore in South-East Asia and North America. The in-situ strength properties of such soils are challenging to evaluate using existing methodologies such as in-situ relative density relations. As an alternative procedure, it is suggested to calibrate the correlation between the in-situ properties and laboratory strength measurements based on the shear wave propagation velocity. Utilising this procedure decreases the statistical spread and uncertainties related to material property determination while a greater correlation can be made with the 3D geophysical ground model allowing for position-specific profiling without cone penetration data.

Abstract:
Abstract CO2 wettability and the reservoir rock-fluid interfacial interactions are crucial parameters for successful CO2 geological sequestration. This study implemented the feed-forward neural network to model the wettability behavior in a ternary system of rock minerals (quartz and mica), CO2, and brine under different operating conditions. To gain higher accuracy of the machine learning models, a sufficient dataset was utilized that was recorded by conducting a large number of laboratory experiments under a realistic pressure range, 0 – 25 MPa and the temperatures range, 298 – 343 K. The mica substrates were used as a proxy for the caprock, and quartz substrates were used a proxy for the reservoir rock. Different graphical exploratory data analysis techniques, such as heatmaps, violin plots, and pairplots were used to analyze the experimental dataset. To improve the generalization capabilities of the machine learning models k-fold cross-validation method, and grid search optimization approaches were implemented. The machine learning models were trained to predict the receding and advancing contact angles of mineral/CO2/brine systems. Both statistical evaluation and graphical analyses were performed to show the reliability and performance of the developed models. The results showed that the implemented ML model accurately predicted the wettability behavior under various operating conditions. The training and testing average absolute percent relative errors (AAPE) and R2 of the FFNN model for mica and quartz were 0.981 and 0.972, respectively. The results confirm the accuracy performance of the ML algorithms. Finally, the investigation of feature importance indicated that pressure had the utmost influence on the contact angles of the minerals/CO2/brine system. The geological conditions profoundly affect rock minerals wetting characteristics, thus CO2 geo-storage capacities. The literature severely lacks advanced information and new methods for characterizing the wettability of mineral/CO2/brine systems at geo-storage conditions. Thus, the ML model's outcomes can be beneficial for precisely predicting the CO2 geo-storage capacities and containment security for the feasibility of large-scale geo-sequestration projects.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In this 1-year feasibility study, we tried polymerization of several different monomers, commercial as well as novel, specially designed and synthesized for this project in the presence of the nitrate ion to produce imprinted conductive polymers. Polymers 1 and 2 (shown below) produced a response to nitrate, but one inferior to that produced by a polypyrrole (Ppy)-based sensor (which we demonstrated prior to this study). Thus, we elected to proceed with improving the stability of the Ppy-based sensor. In order to improve stability of the Ppy-based sensor, we created a two-layer design which includes nitrate-doped Ppy as an inner layer, and nitrate-doped PEDOT as the outer layer. PEDOT is known for its high environmental stability and conductivity. This design has demonstrated promise, but is still undergoing optimization and stability testing. Previously we had failed to create nitrate-doped PEDOT in the absence of a Ppy layer. Nitrate-doped PEDOT should be very promising for sensor applications due to its high stability and exceptional sensing properties as we showed previously for sensing of perchlorate ions (by perchlorate-doped PEDOT). During this year, we have succeeded in preparing nitrate-doped PEDOT (4 below) by designing a new starting monomer (compound 3 below) for polymerization. We are currently testing this design for nitrate sensing. In parallel with the fabrication design studies, we fabricated and tested nitrate-doped Ppy sensors in a series of flow studies under laboratory and field conditions. Nitrate-doped Ppy sensors are less stable than is desirable but provide excellent nitrate sensing characteristics for the short-term experiments focusing on packaging and deployment strategies. The fabricated sensors were successfully interfaced with a commercial battery-powered self-logging (Onset Computer Hobo Datalogger) and a wireless data acquisition and transmission system (Crossbow Technologies MDA300 sensor interface and Mica2 wireless mote). In a series of flow-through experiments with water, the nitrate-doped Ppy sensors were exposed to pulses of dissolved nitrate and compared favorably with an expensive commercial sensor. In 24-hour field tests in both Merced and in Palmdale, CA agricultural soils, the sensors responded to introduced nitrate pulses, but with different dynamics relative to the larger commercial sensors. These experiments are on-going but suggest a form factor (size, shape) effect of the sensor when deployed in a porous medium such as soil. To fill the need for a miniature reference electrode, we identified and tested one commercial version (Cypress Systems, ESA Mini-reference electrode) which works well but is expensive ($190). To create an inexpensive miniature reference electrode, we are exploring the use of AgCl-coated silver wire. This electrode is not a “true” reference electrode; however, it can calibrated once versus a commercial reference electrode at the time of deployment in soil. Thus, only one commercial reference electrode would suffice to support a multiple sensor deployment.
