Abstract:
In the era of globalization, the whole world has turned into a small village. It is safe to say that the reason for the change in the world and its transformation into an information society was Internet resources. Through the Internet, you can find out in seconds what is happening anywhere in the world. Thus, the Internet has become an integral part of a person's daily life. Today, people denied access to the Internet feel like hermits in the desert. This proves the fact that society has become informational and virtual. The Internet has become a real force, not only informing but also virtualizing society. Most of the offline services that were before the advent of the Internet are now available online. For example, education has become available remotely via the Internet. Purchases are also made through online stores. Money transfers have been made online since the advent of the Internet. Thus, the vast majority of services that are demanded to meet human needs have become virtualized. One of the inherent values of human nature is faith. More than 84% of the seven billion people living on Earth are of one religion or another. According to statistics for 2019, 57% of the world's population, or more than four billion people, use the Internet. In an era when all areas closely related to human life are virtualized, religious relations did not remain distant from these changes. The Internet has proven to be effective in spreading religion. The preaching work is done exclusively over the Internet, through websites. The reason for this is efficiency in terms of saving time and money. So, for example, if you want to listen to a preacher, you do not have to meet with him tet-a-tet, you just need to make an agreement and simultaneously connect to the Internet. Besides, you can register, listen to, and view the sermons of the desired preacher on their website. The necessity of traveling to a specific country or place for religious education has decreased with Internet development. The possibility of acquiring knowledge and getting an education at a religious university through distance learning are available nowadays. The Internet has removed many barriers and boundaries in time and space, raised human life to a new level, and opened up many opportunities. The sites have become a mirror of any religious organization. An organization that does not have its own website in the information society is like an organization without an address or specific location. Today's consumers will mostly recognize any organization through their personal website. Religious organizations, adherents of any religion, or a person who wants to embrace a new faith can easily access the information through the website. For all of the above, it is crucial to provide religious information through the website under technical and theological norms.

Abstract:
A Review of: Quesenberry, A. C., Oelschlegel, S., Earl, M., Leonard, K., & Vaughn, C. J. (2016). The impact of library resources and services on the scholarly activity of medical faculty and residents. Medical Reference Services Quarterly, 35(3), 259-265. http://dx.doi:org/10.1080/02763869.2016.1189778 Abstract Objective – This study aimed to determine the use of three library services – literature search service, article delivery service, and library resources – among medical faculty and residents with regard to scholarly activity. Design – Survey. Setting – Medical Library and Health Information Centre at a large university in the United States of America. Subjects – 65 medical faculty and residents. Methods – The authors sent out 433 invitations to participate in a 23-question survey via an email distribution list. A total of 65 individuals participated, for a response rate of 15%. Questions related to the use of library services for scholarly activity, patterns of information-seeking behaviour, and instructional needs. Comments were allowed on several questions, and a final open-ended question was included. Main Results – All respondents used PubMed at least a few times a year, with 71% selecting it as their first choice to search for articles. Only 20% prioritized Google or Google Scholar above PubMed as the first place to begin a search. The most popular reasons for using library resources were “lectures, papers, research, and patient care” (p.262). The first three of these activities are types of scholarly activity. Of the 65 respondents, 46% published article(s) or book chapter(s). Within this group of authors, 67% of residents undertaking scholarly activity requested a literature review, 100% accessed online material themselves, and 67% requested articles. Faculty placed similar importance on these services, with 71% having requested a literature review, 87% having accessed materials themselves, and 75% having requested articles. Among those respondents who presented posters or papers, there was high use of library services, ranging from 59% of faculty requesting a literature review to 98% of faculty accessing online material themselves. Conclusion – The library is a key resource for faculty and residents undertaking scholarly activity. However, faculty members use the library’s services and resources for publishing articles and book chapters more than residents do. This may be because of “publish or perish” pressure, or because faculty have less time to locate research by themselves. Surveys are useful to ensure the library’s resources and services align with the needs of the user community. Inclusion of free-text comment boxes in the survey allowed users to put a “personal face” (p. 264) to their comments that would have otherwise not been captured.

Abstract Terminology standardization reflects two different aspects involving the meaning of terms and the structure of terminological resources. In this paper, we focus on the structural aspect of standardization and we present the work of re-modeling TriMED, a multilingual terminological database conceived to support multi-register medical communication. In particular, we provide a general methodology to make the termbase compliant to three of the most recent ISO/TC 37 standards. We focus on the definition of (i) the structural meta-model of the resource, (ii) the provided data categories and its Data Category Repository, and (iii) the TBX format for its implementation. Abstract:
Introduction. Educational resources for medical students are not limited to traditional resources available in the university electronic environment of (subscribed or created at the university). Studies of the usage statistics of the university information-educational environment cannot give a reliable answer to the question of what resources students use. The study analyzes the survey data on the use of publicly available and commercial educational services along with the university resources. In result, we determine how the structure of the information and educational environment of the university meets the identified needs of students.Methods. In April 2021, we conducted an online survey of 1,765 students from 10 medical universities. Respondents were proposed to indicate the frequency with which they use different educational resources. We compare the 2021 results with the data of the 2020 survey using the methods of statistical analysis. Comparison of the use of the same type of university resources, publicly available and purchased are performed. The risks of the use of information resources of the university are assessed. Relationships between the use of different resources have been determined. Clusters of respondents demonstrating similar informational behavior are identified.Results. No significant changes in the frequency of use of information resources have been registered since 2020. Students prefer to use free resources regardless of their source. Frequent viewing of teachers’ online lectures reduces interest in face-to-face lectures, and frequent use of paid video resources or mobile applications reduces interest in the university resources as a whole. Close links have been found between the use of different commercial resources. 42.3 % of students prefer the university-created resources, whereas 38.6 % of students are focused at the publicly available resources and 19.1 % prefer technological resources from any source.Conclusion. The information resources of the university compete for the attention of students with a huge number of third-party resources. High-quality video content can significantly increase the use of university resources. An expert assessment of popular medical resources and an increase in students’ awareness of the quality of these resources is needed.

Abstract:
In general, patients who are unwell do not know with which outpatient department they should register, and can only get advice after they are diagnosed by a family doctor. This may cause a waste of time and medical resources. In this paper, we propose an attention-based bidirectional long short-term memory (Att-BiLSTM) model for service robots, which has the ability to classify outpatient categories according to textual content. With the outpatient text classification system, users can talk about their situation to a service robot and the robot can tell them which clinic they should register with. In the implementation of the proposed method, dialog text of users in the Taiwan E Hospital were collected as the training data set. Through natural language processing (NLP), the information in the dialog text was extracted, sorted, and converted to train the long-short term memory (LSTM) deep learning model. Experimental results verify the ability of the robot to respond to questions autonomously through acquired casual knowledge.

Abstract:
Since 2014 the Russian Federation has been carrying out the works for determining flooding and underflooding zones near water objects. It is legally stated that the information about the boundaries of such zones must be inserted into the Unified State Real Estate Register. However, the range of legal and regulatory and technological issues in determining the boundaries of flooding zones has not yet been solved and the works have not been completed to the full extent. The article performs the analysis of governing regulatory documents as well as the amendments accepted in 2019, devoted to the improvement of the procedure for determining flooding and under flooding zones. As the argument of relevance of determining flooding and underflooding zones were considered the examples of cata-strophic floods on the territory of the Russian Federation, which caused billion-ruble losses to the state as well as to the real estate owners. The article substantiates the necessity of computer-based forecasting modeling of emergencies, related to flooding of territories and determining the boundaries of the emergency geospace – the flooding and underflooding zones. The article draws the technological scheme of the actions for determining emergency geospace. There have been built the digital forecast-ing models of the flooding zones on the territory of the Novosibirsk city in disastrous flood. There has been drawn the information about the registered geodata base of flooding zones in residential areas of the Novosibirsk region during seasonal river floods. To optimize the processes of entering information about flooding and underflooding zones into the unified state register of real estate, a technological scheme for establishing flooding and flooding zones has been developed and introduced into the work of the Verhne-Obskoj Basin Water Management. There has been shown the positive impact of determination and registration in state informational resource of the data about flooding and under-flooding zone boundaries. In particular this information allows to perform the evaluation of territorial stability of land-property complex spatial structures. On the basis of statistical data on damage due to floods, there has been drawn the conclusion about the necessity of tax reduction on real estate in areas of possible emergencies and redistribution of funds of real estate owners for property insurance.

Beattie, Diane Lynn. "The informational needs of historians researching women : an archival user study." Thesis, University of British Columbia, 1987. http://hdl.handle.net/2429/26047.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis examines the informational needs of historians researching women as a subject in archives. The research methodology employed combines two types of user studies, the questionnaire and the reference analysis, in order to determine both the use and usefulness of archival materials and finding aids for historians researching women. This study begins with an overview of the literature on user studies. The thesis then outlines both the kinds of materials and the information historians researching women require. Finally, this study looks at the way historians researching women locate relevant materials and concomitantly the effectiveness of current descriptive policies and practices in dealing with the needs of this research group. This thesis concludes by suggesting a number of ways in which archivists can respond to the informational needs of historians researching women in archives. Firstly, a considerable amount of documentation relevant to the study of women remains to be acquired by archival repositories. While archives should continue to acquire textual materials, more emphasis needs to be placed upon the acquisition of non-textual materials since these materials are also very useful to historians researching women in archives. Secondly, archivists must focus more attention on the informational value of their holdings since the majority of historians researching women are interested in the information the records contain about people, events or subject area and not the description of institutional life contained in records. Thirdly this study demonstrates the need for more subject oriented finding aids. Archivists can improve subject access to their holdings through the preparation of thematic guides, by the creation of more analytical inventory descriptions and by indexing or cataloguing women's records.

Lincoln, Margaret L. "The Online and the Onsite Holocaust Museum Exhibition as an Informational Resource." Thesis, University of North Texas, 2006. https://digital.library.unt.edu/ark:/67531/metadc5407/.

Full text
Abstract:
Museums today provide learning-rich experiences and quality informational resources through both physical and virtual environments. This study examined a Holocaust Museum traveling exhibition, Life in Shadows: Hidden Children and the Holocaust that was on display at the Art Center of Battle Creek, Michigan in fall 2005. The purpose of this mixed methods study was to assess the informational value of a Holocaust Museum exhibition in its onsite vs. online format by converging quantitative and qualitative data. Participants in the study included six eighth grade language arts classes who viewed various combinations or scenarios of the onsite and online Life in Shadows. Using student responses to questions in an online exhibition survey, an analysis of variance was performed to determine which scenario visit promotes the greatest content learning. Using student responses to additional questions on the same survey, data were analyzed qualitatively to discover the impact on students of each scenario visit. By means of an emotional empathy test, data were analyzed to determine differences among student response according to scenario visit. A principal finding of the study (supporting Falk and Dierking's contextual model of learning) was that the use of the online exhibition provided a source of prior orientation and functioned as an advanced organizer for students who subsequently viewed the onsite exhibition. Students who viewed the online exhibition received higher topic assessment scores. Students in each scenario visit gave positive exhibition feedback and evidence of emotional empathy. Further longitudinal studies in museum informatics and Holocaust education involving a more diverse population are needed. Of particular importance would be research focusing on using museum exhibitions and Web-based technology in a compelling manner so that students can continue to hear the words of survivors who themselves bear witness and give voice to silenced victims. When perpetuity of access to informational resources is assured, future generations will continue to be connected to the primary documents of history and cultural heritage.

Abstract:
Throughout history, the direct or indirect choice of preservation has resulted in the successful incorporation of tangible products of the human past into modern cultural environments. Within the current American historic preservation system, "significance" is used as a delimiter for identifying historic properties that are determined beneficial to the heritage of the American people. As defined under U.S. law, however, "significance" is attributed only to places and objects whose importance is limited within an historical or scientific framework. This thesis proposes that the significance of historic properties transcends the boundaries of these limited frameworks of importance, and demonstrates that the public benefits of preservation are maximized when history is reified through the modern-use of these places and objects as cultural resources for the current and future generations of the American people.

Abstract:
Structure and volume of the dissertation Master’s dissertation consists of introduction, 6sections, conclusion, list of sources of 26items, 1appendix and has 22images, 24 tables. Whole dissertation volume is 83 pages, out of which list of sources takes 3pages, appendixes - 10pages. Significance of the topic. Even after two decades of digital presence and the proliferation of electronic resources in terms of creation, acquisition and use, managing them remains a cumbersome process. The process of managing electronic resources often overloads people. The lifecycle of electronic resources, especially in academic institutions, begins with the discovery and identification of the resource and proceeds to trial access, selecting a specific resource from a range of other resources with subsequent acquisition, and then encompassing user access, and then further exploring the use of the resource for further supporting and updating these resources. These processes include the cumbersome work of reviewing license agreements and keeping records properly. All these processes are time consuming and require a lot of work. These inexorable arrays of work have forced them to look for systems that will save their time and energy, as well as ensure efficient management of electronic resources. The purpose of the creation is to build and develop an information space for use in the application field, as well as to secure the registration, accounting, preservation and protection of existing, acquired or legally disclosed information on electronic information resources (EIR) with open information. It was also very important to provide users (consumers) with prompt access to information on the EIA with open information entered in the Register. To achieve this task, the following research objectives were formulated, which defined the logic of the study and its structure: - analyze existing solutions that work with industry registries; - to analyze the existing approaches of classification models that can be integrated into the developed system in the future for the classification of the desired electronic resources; - develop an EIR search model; - develop a model that will provide regulated access to resources, depending on their level of secrecy. The object of the exploration is the process of data overflow in electronic information resource management systems, which creates difficulties in finding the necessary information. The subject of the exploration is attributes of electronic information resources, which are used to build classification and search algorithms . Exploration methods. Solution of defined goals was made with usage of next methods:-method of comparative analysis of already existing solutions;-method of simulating the workload on a system and investigating its behaviour. Novelty of the results. The most valuable scientific results of masters dissertation is improving the mechanisms for classification and search of EIR. Practical value of the obtained results of the work lies in the developed application program, which is aimed at the efficient accounting of industrial registers, as well as the developed search algorithms and classification of electronic information resources.

Burgos, Andrés C. "Information-theoretic models of communication in biological systems." Thesis, University of Hertfordshire, 2017. http://hdl.handle.net/2299/19509.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis aims to find general principles governing the behaviour of biological systems, with a particular emphasis in the communicational (social) aspect of these systems. Communication between biological entities plays a major role in their evolution, enabling them to exchange information about their environment and thereby improving their chances of survival. Communication also plays a pivotal role in the organisation of populations of organisms, clearly observed in social insects, but present also at least in bacteria, plants, fungi, animals and humans. It is also theorised that the genetic code is a by-product of the establishment of an innovation-sharing protocol between primitive cells [Vetsigian et al., 2006]. This thesis is mainly concerned with identifying necessary conditions for the emergence of communicational codes, and the problems that arise with their establishment. For this purpose, we introduce an information-theoretic framework where species maximise their growth rate by following a Kelly-gambling strategy to bet on environmental conditions. Information theory provides a powerful tool for abstracting away mechanisms and for focusing on hard limits of a system's dynamics which cannot be circumvented. We begin by exploring the relation between information exchange and limited resources. We show that a transition from cooperation to antagonism in the exchange of environmental information follows from a change in the availability of resources, from abundant to scarce. We then assume a non-competitive scenario with abundance of resources, where conflicts in a population occur only at a communicational (informational) level, rather than on the physical level, such as competing for (physical) resources. However, traditional Shannon communication is non-semantic, as opposed to the semantic communication observed in biological systems, which is necessary for capturing conflicts in communication. In the traditional use of information theory, it is assumed that every organism knows how to \interpret" the information offered by other organisms. However, this assumes that one \knows" which other organisms one observes, and thus which code they use. In our model, however, we wish to preclude that: namely, we will do away with the assumption that the identity of the organisms who send the messages and those who receive them is known, and the resulting usable information is therefore influenced by the universality of the code used and by which organisms an organism is \listening" to. We introduce a model which captures semantic communication in information-theoretic terms, where organisms talk to each other in a communication network. We show that, for particular population structures, when organisms cannot identify which other organisms they talk to, the adoption of a universal code emerges as a solution for full interpretation of the shared information. However, the evolution and establishment of universal codes for communication introduces vulnerabilities: organisms can be exploited by parasites. We de ne two types of parasites whose strategies have different levels of complexity and study the co-evolution of a host (the population) and a parasite by optimising their respective objective functions in stages. First, we consider a disruptive parasite (a troll) that inflicts harm in a host by minimising a population's mutual understanding, and then a more complex parasite, which manipulates the members of the population via their codes (the puppetmaster). We show emergent characterisations of both parasites, as well as which host configurations are robust against parasites and show adaptive properties. This thesis introduces a framework which allows the study of informational properties in the host-parasite co-evolution, where the rules of the parasite's habitat, the host, are the outcome of an evolutionary process, and where these very same rules are those that allow the parasite to exploit the host.

Howell, Gwyneth Veronica James. "Using the informational processing paradigm to design commercial rumour response strategies on the World Wide Web." UWA Business School, 2006. http://theses.library.uwa.edu.au/adt-WU2007.0024.

Abstract:
[Truncated abstract] Rumours can lead to unpredictable events: the manner in which an organisation responds to a commercial rumour can alter its reputation, and can affect its profitability as well as, ultimately, its survival. Commercial rumours are now a prominent feature of the business environment. They can emerge from organisational change, pending workforce layoffs, mergers, and changes to management, in addition, commercial rumours can lower morale and undermine productivity. There are several well-known examples of commercial rumours that have been, or continue to be, circulated. Commercial rumours are typically either about a conspiracy or contamination issue. Conspiracy rumours usually target those organisational practices or policies which are identified as undesirable by the stakeholders. This form of rumour is often precipitated by situations where people do not have all the information about a situation, for example the rumour about Proctor & Gamble being run by the Moonies. Snapple, the soft drink company, was rumoured in 1992 to be supporting the Ku Klux Klan in closing abortion clinics. Contamination rumours are wide-ranging and typically have revulsion theme, such as McDonald’s "worms in the burger", Pop Rock’s candies which exploded in the stomach, and poison in Herron’s paracetamol . . . Marketers suggest that web sites Commerical Rumour Responses on the Web represent the future of marketing communications on the Internet. The key implication of this study for organisations is when faced with a negative rumour, specific and selected Web pages can be used manage company’s stakeholders recall the rumour and organisational stakeholders can be persuaded by the company’s rumour response strategies.

Abstract:
AbstractIn the last five years in Romania, a series of measures and policies have been adopted that aimed to increase the enrolment and participation of Romanian citizens in higher education. However, we are still witnessing a decline in the number of students even though Romania has the lowest proportion of graduates (30–34 years) with a higher education diploma in the EU. Through this paper, we will follow the educational path of students in final grades in upper secondary education to analyse how many of them graduated from the national baccalaureate exam and later became students. The data come from the interconnection of two important databases from the Romanian education system, the National Student Register (RMUR) and the Integrated Information System of Education in Romania (SIIIR). Access to higher education must be viewed not only from the perspective of the admissions process but also from the perspective of generational losses that have a direct impact on the human resources eligible for higher education. Thus, we will insist on analysing the “losses” of human capital registered in the national education system in the last year of study in pre-university education, looking at the same time at the characteristics of students who manage to enter higher education. The current analysis is based on the work done within the project “Quality in higher education: internationalization and databases for the development of Romanian education” (code POCU/472/6/8/126766/21.11.2018, implemented by the Executive Agency for Higher Education, Research, Development and Innovation Funding (UEFISCDI) in partnership with the Ministry of Education (ME).

Abstract:
AbstractThe pressure is high on career educators to develop information literacies as a life skill for themselves as well as for youth, particularly those from disadvantaged communities, and to document and process career information in a rapidly changing world of work that is relevant to their sociocultural and environmental contexts. We employ a critical or transformative approach to information literacies to explore young people’s socially situated practices of collecting, validating, and processing career information as well as how they might “democratically transform structures of authority over information exchanges, and then maintain scrutiny over this authority” (Whitworth A, Radical information literacy: reclaiming the political heart of the IL movement. Elsevier, 2014, p. 2). We draw from qualitative interviews with ten boys studying in 10th grade at a government school in Delhi, India, and videos produced by them to map their career information landscapes. Using an education for sustainable development lens, “bumps” were made visible in their information landscapes, that is, the tensions that emerge between multiple informational actors for reimagining sustainable futures. We suggest that these tensions can serve as cultural resources that students can democratically engage with in developing crucial career and life skills for their futures.

Abstract:
Abstract The chapter sets out to answer a question that has long been on the mind of policy-makers, university leaders, scholars and students: does international student credit mobility have a positive impact on graduate employability? Traditionally, this question has been answered using survey data where internationally mobile students self-report their employment situation at a certain point after graduation. According to these studies, international student mobility positively affects the labour market outcomes of students. For instance, the European Commission reports that: (1) students who completed an Erasmus mobility program are half as likely to face long-term unemployment; (2) the unemployment rate of Erasmus students is 23% lower five years after graduation (European Commission 2014). While these studies provide important insights about the benefits associated with the cross-border credit mobility of students, the results can be plagued by self-selection bias in reporting post-mobility employment outcomes. In order to avoid the problems associated with survey data, in this chapter we offer an analysis based on register data from university records and employment records, using as a case study the West University of Timisoara, a leading comprehensive university in Romania. Using register data offers the possibility to study population-level data and compare the employment outcomes of mobile and non-mobile students. The chapter analyses the impact of credit mobility on insertion in the labour market, income levels and occupational prestige. While the research question that the chapter is trying to answer is important, the main message of the chapter is broader: ministries and higher education institutions should release data for research purposes. Register data is readily available and helps researchers make efficient use of resources. In turn, this can encourage evidence-based policymaking.

Abstract:
The inventory, evaluation and treatment of cultural resources represent a significant challenge for siting and permitting natural gas pipelines. Project sponsors assist the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission’s Office of Energy Projects with meeting its obligations under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The increasing sophistication of compliance with Section 106 is reflected in the Office of Energy Project’s 2002 Guidelines for Reporting on Cultural Resources Investigations for Pipeline Projects. Recent pipeline projects in the United States have involved environmental study corridors that are both wide and extensive, a combination that results in the identification of large numbers of cultural properties. The process of cultural resources management begins in the project planning stage with the development of site location modeling, analysis of previous investigations within or near Areas of Potential Effect, and consideration of the likelihood for encountering potentially eligible National Register of Historic Places properties. Using this information, site detection survey strategies can be developed that intensively target only sensitive portions of the Area of Potential Effect. During the survey, identification of archaeological sites, historic structures, or cultural landscapes requires prompt evaluation of National Register eligibility status for the purposes of avoidance or development of treatment plans. This presentation considers the Section 106 compliance process and how project sponsors can effectively manage cultural resources to ensure cost effectiveness and maintenance of restricted project schedules, while meeting the objectives of the National Historic Preservation Act.

Abstract:
The aim of the article is to analyse and evaluate the information on polluted and potentially polluted places registered in the Register of polluted and potentially polluted places in Latvia. Under the influence of various natural conditions and economic activities land and soil degradation processes are observed, which has led to formation of degraded territories. Degraded territory is a territory with destroyed or damaged upper layer of ground or an abandoned territory of construction, extraction of mineral resources, economic or military activities, which in result of economic or other activity or inaction has so far destroyed, that is impossible to use it properly without special restoration measures. One of the factors that can be used to assess land degradation and determine the type of land degradation is pollution. In accordance with the Law “On pollution” in Latvia have been established procedures for identification of polluted places and developed criteria which are used for assessment of risk level. On this basis the Centre for Environment, Geology and Meteorology of Latvia has established and maintains the Register of polluted and potentially polluted places. The polluted place is soil, subsoil, water, sludge, as well as buildings, factories or other objects containing pollutants. Potentially polluted places can be listed according to unverified information. In 2017 in Latvia 351 polluted and 2648 potentially polluted places were listed and registered. The largest concentration of polluted places is located in Riga, which is largest industrial centre in Latvia.

Full text
Abstract:
Primary and secondary mineral resources are of strategic importance for the EU. Most EU countries (including Slovenia) are already part of the pan‐European Minerals Intelligence Network which provides consistent and organized data information on primary and secondary mineral resources on the European level. It was established in previous projects as EuroGeoSource, Minerals4EU, ProSUM, Mica and ORAMA. The Eastern and south Eastern European (ESEE) region represents a gap in this network, but at the same time is also identified as one of most important strategic regions for the EU with great potential for mineral supply. The large concerns are aiming to expand their business to the region, but access to relevant data interesting for the investors is still not available. There is a need for surveyed and unified mineral resources data. In the framework of RESEERVE (EIT RM KAVA project, duration 1.4.2018-31.3.2021), national mineral resources data of six task partners from West Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro and Macedonia) were implemented and harmonized with INSPIRE directive (European directive for organizing spatial data). Since EU directives are mandatory for members only and West Balkan countries are not yet targeted (except Croatia), they are still interested in their implementation. For that reason the main project goal is the creation of the West Balkan Mineral Register, provided by national data providers, which will represent a starting point to integrate the ESEE region into existing EU data platforms and bring it closer to common minerals market. Regional mineral data will become more accessible and relevant. The goal of the project is to anticipate the future supply and demand for minerals, particularly regarding critical minerals and therefore to contribute to the sustainable mineral supply in Europe. Leading partner for RESEERVE project is Geological Survey of Slovenia (GeoZS), which has identified relevant data providers and examined data quantity, quality and format. GeoZS will synthesize primary and secondary raw material data into common West Balkan Mineral Register and test the harvesting of data in INSPIRE compliant European data model. The scenarios drawn up in the project will be available through the European Geological Data Infrastructure (EGDI), which will offer easy access to existing mineral data. EGDI provides access to Pan-European and national geological 150 datasets and services from the Geological Survey Organizations of Europe. Through EGDI data from several European data harmonization projects are accessible. EGDI was launched in June 2016 in a Version 1 and has since then been extended to include more data sets, including mineral resources. The article is mostly focused on workflow harmonizing the data and spreading IT knowledge of mapping the national primary and secondary minerals data to already existing European data model and developing national relational databases, that fit into European common database structure. Data harmonization was already performed through national training workshops to assist task partners in taking the first step toward INSPIRE directive implementation.

In ASME 2014 International Design Engineering Technical Conferences and Computers and Information in Engineering Conference. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2014. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/detc2014-34685.

Full text
Abstract:
Workflows to produce dental products by using CAD/CAM technology are very complex. Each patient needs an individual restoration. The challenge is to provide a patient individual production aiming at a price of mass production. But every single job has to run through an individual development as well manufacturing process. Typically, three stakeholders are involved in the workflow. The dentist performs the treatment and defines requirements for restoration. The dental laboratory plans the workflow and designs the reconstruction by using a dental CAD system. Subsequently, a milling center produces the restoration. Because of these highly heterogeneous workflows, diverse data streams and incompatibilities result. Often improper partners and resources are involved in the workflow. This fact is a significant source for errors. An additional complication is that errors are often discovered in late phases of the workflow. To avoid high costs and unacceptable delivery times, the aim is to develop a new concept for integrated workflow planning. The concept depends on three parts: Federative dental data management (FDDM) as a basic approach, including anticipated logic and structured activities. The federative data management provides a loosely coupling of heterogeneous systems crossing enterprise borders by using web technology. The FDDM service depends on APP technology. Each participant applies its specialized APP: FDDMz (dentist), FDDMd (dental laboratory) and FDDMf (milling center). FDDM services enable a continuously integrated workflow throughout the whole process of a patient individual production. Each participating enterprise is able to register its available processes and resources. Information about resources like 3D dental scanner or milling machines are able to add, according to a global data model schema. This schema depends on an integrated information model with eight partial models: Collaboration, resource, process, workflow, requirements, product, work preparation and production model. This integrated information model provides dental information including interlinked objects. Through a proper anticipation logic, conclusions about later phases can be anticipated already at early phases. The last conceptual part is workflow management on frame of structured activities. By combining the information network with the anticipation logic, filtering of appropriate partners, processes, resources and sequences is supported. Next, a prototypical implementation is demonstrated exemplarily. This concept delivers an important contribution to increase process reliability and quality as well as to reduce delivery times and costs for digital dental workflows.

Full text
Abstract:
Land consolidation in the European Union is not only a tool used to improve the economy of rural areas. When setting goals for land consolidation, one should take into account the social and environmental aspects. The sociocultural needs related to use of natural resources of rural landscape, cultural heritage, agritourism or technical infrastructure are as important as the profit earned by farms; they also help to maintain the harmony with the natural environment. For land consolidation to play a significant role in developing a strategy of multifunctional and sustainable development of rural areas, those who carry it out must have free access to up-to-date and properly selected databases; a cadaster of real property could be one of the sources of such data. A real estate cadaster is a public register, which provides credible identification of plots in a specific space. It is possible because when gathering information about land, buildings, apartments as well about their owners and holders, the system ensures its topicality, which is a priority despite the everchanging space around us. The aim of the study is to present the significant role of cadastral databases in land consolidation as they help to develop the optimum relations between the economy, rural areas, communities and environmental protection.

Abstract:
Due to business innovation and IT, information systems (IS) are made up of distributed autonomous subsystems running on heterogeneous IT platforms. These subsystems implement differently same business objects and processes. Thus pieces of data and processes are overlapping and replicated. Moreover, informational and computational resources are locked i.e. they do exist, but they are not accessible. This paper specifies an interaction-dedicated subsystem of the IS called interaction support system (ISS). It is a support for interactions. It aims to: (1) provide subsystems of IS with a unified and consistent representation of business objects, (2) coordinate processes, and (3) lock data and processes. An implementation of a web-based business object-oriented ISS, a specialization of the ISS, is made up of four elements: 1) browser used by subsystems to browse and query business objects over the Internet/Intranet, 2) a web server on which run the logic of the ISS, 3) a metadata representing distribution of business objects and processes, and 4) business objects implementations over the subsystems willing to interact.

Baxter, Carey, Susan Enscore, Ellen Hartman, Benjamin Mertens, and Dawn Morrison. Nationwide context and evaluation methodology for farmstead and ranch historic sites and historic archaeological sites on DoD property. Engineer Research and Development Center (U.S.), March 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.21079/11681/39842.

Abstract:
The Army is tasked with managing the cultural resources on its lands. For installations that contain large numbers of historic farmsteads, meeting these requirements through traditional archaeological approaches entails large investments of personnel, time and organization capital. Through two previous projects, Engineer Research and Development Center, Construction Engineering Research Laboratory (ERDC-CERL) cultural resource management personnel developed a methodology for efficiently identifying the best examples of historic farmstead sites, and also those sites that are least likely to be deemed eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places. This report details testing the applicability of the methodology to regions across the country. Regional historic contexts were created to assist in the determination of “typical” farmsteads. The Farmstead/Ranch Eligibility Evaluation Form created by ERDC-CERL researchers was revised to reflect the broader geographic scope and the inclusion of ranches as a property type. The form was then used to test 29 sites at five military installations. The results of the fieldwork show this approach is applicable nationwide, and it can be used to quickly identify basic information about historic farmstead sites that can expedite determinations of eligibility to the National Register.

Abstract:
Executive Summary Patient registries are important tools for advancing research, improving healthcare quality, and supporting health policy. Registries contain vast amounts of data that could be used for new purposes when linked with other sources or shared with researchers. This toolkit was developed to summarize current best practices and provide information to assist registries interested in sharing data. The contents of this toolkit were developed based on review of the literature, existing registry practices, interviews with registries, and input from key stakeholders involved in the sharing of registry data. While some information in this toolkit may be relevant in other countries, this toolkit focuses on best practices for sharing data within the United States. Considerations related to data sharing differ across registries depending on the type of registry, registry purpose, funding source(s), and other factors; as such, this toolkit describes general best practices and considerations rather than providing specific recommendations. Finally, data sharing raises complex legal, regulatory, operational, and technical questions, and none of the information contained herein should be substituted for legal advice. The toolkit is organized into three sections: “Preparing to Share Data,” “Governance,” and “Procedures for Reviewing and Responding to Data Requests.” The section on “Preparing to Share Data” discusses the role of appropriate legal rights to further share the data and the need to follow all applicable ethical regulations. Registries should also prepare for data sharing activities by ensuring data are maintained appropriately and developing policies and procedures for governance and data sharing. The “Governance” section describes the role of governance in data sharing and outlines key governance tasks, including defining and staffing relevant oversight bodies; developing a data request process; reviewing data requests; and overseeing access to data by the requesting party. Governance structures vary based on the scope of data shared and registry resources. Lastly, the section on “Procedures for Reviewing and Responding to Data Requests” discusses the operational steps involved in sharing data. Policies and procedures for sharing data may depend on what types of data are available for sharing and with whom the data can be shared. Many registries develop a data request form for external researchers interested in using registry data. When reviewing requests, registries may consider whether the request aligns with the registry’s mission/purpose, the feasibility and merit of the proposed research, the qualifications of the requestor, and the necessary ethical and regulatory approvals, as well as administrative factors such as costs and timelines. Registries may require researchers to sign a data use agreement or other such contract to clearly define the terms and conditions of data use before providing access to the data in a secure manner. The toolkit concludes with a list of resources and appendices with supporting materials that registries may find helpful.

Abstract:
The Fort Huachuca Environmental and Natural Resources Division (ENRD) tasked ERDC-CERL to compile a history of the development of Fort Huachuca for use in evaluating existing facilities and how they fit within the larger, overarching history of the fort. Fort Huachuca desires a comprehensive history of the fort for use in better understanding how its various facilities integrate into the overall history and development of the fort and its existing National Historic Landmark (NHL) and proposed existing evaluated, eligible, and listed National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) properties and districts. This comprehensive history will help ENRD in making determinations on how to address future National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) nominations and/or recommendations for adding new historic districts or expanding the existing historic district. ERDC-CERL compiled content from 18 existing historic contexts, building inventory and cultural re-sources reports, NRHP nomination and registration forms, and Historic American Buildings Survey (HABS) forms previously completed for the ENRD, and used these resources to compile the current history.

Abstract:
Swift changes in society, related to sciences technicians’ development, technologies, by the increase of general volume of information, pull out new requirements for maintenance, structure, and quality of education. It requires teachers to diversify a tool in the direction of the increase in possibilities of the use of mobile technologies and computer systems. Lately in the world, more attention spared to the use of mobile learning, which in obedience to «Recommendations of UNESCO on the questions of a policy in the area of mobile learning» foresees the use of mobile technology, both separate and together with other by informational computer technologies. [1]. Mobile learning allows using the open informational systems, global educational networks, unique digital resources which belong to different educational establishments and co-operate with each other. The use of existent educational resources and creation of own, based on the academic resources from informative space, allows to promote the interest of students to the study of physics, to take into account the individual features, and also features of region and framework of society of the country. During the last years in Ukraine competency-based approach to the organization of studies certainly one of basic. The new Education Act addresses the key competencies that every modern person needs for a successful life, including mathematical competence; competence in natural sciences, engineering, and technology; innovation; information and communication competence [2]. This further emphasizes the importance of providing students with quality physical education and the problems associated with it. Using mobile technology in professional teaching work, the teacher has the opportunity to implement the basic principles of the competence approach in teaching physics. An analysis of the data provided in the official reports of the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment showed that the number of students making an external independent assessment in physics and choosing a future profession related to physics has decreased significantly. This is due to the loss of students' interest in physics and the complexity of the content of the subject, as well as the increase in the amount of information that students need to absorb. In this article, we explore the possibilities of mobile technology as a means of teaching physics students and give our own experience of using mobile technology in the process of teaching physics (for example, the optics section in primary school).

Abstract:
The U.S. Congress codified the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 (NHPA) to provide guidelines and requirements for preserving tangible elements of our nation’s past. This preservation was done primarily through creation of the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP), which contains requirements for federal agencies to address, inventory, and evaluate their cultural resources, and to determine the effect of federal undertakings on properties deemed eligible or potentially eligible for the NRHP. This work inventoried and evaluated the historic landscapes within the National Landmark District at Fort Huachuca, Arizona. A historic landscape context was developed; an inventory of all landscapes and landscape features within the historic district was completed; and these landscapes and features were evaluated using methods established in the Guidelines for Identifying and Evaluating Historic Military Landscapes (ERDC-CERL 2008) and their significance and integrity were determined. Photographic and historic documentation was completed for significant landscapes. Lastly, general management recommendations were provided to help preserve and/or protect these resources in the future.
