Theraroz, Adélaïde. "Ressources génétiques du pin maritime : variabilité géographique, pressions de sélection et adaptation future." Electronic Thesis or Diss., Bordeaux, 2024. http://www.theses.fr/2024BORD0245.
Full textClimate change is already affecting forest ecosystems on all continents, as evidenced by the northward and upward migration of species and the increase of forest dieback in response to not only harsher climate conditions but also to pest and disease epidemics resulting from unprecedented climatic events as well as the intensification of human activities. These phenomena have negative consequences for the functioning of forest ecosystems and the persistence of species and populations, as they threaten the availability of resources, disrupt population dynamics and call into question physiological limits and resistance to pathogens. The future of natural forest tree populations in the face of climate change, given their sessile nature and long generation times, is therefore worrying, whether in terms of extinction, ability to migrate or adapt through genetic change. From a conservation point of view, we need to understand the extent to which forest trees will be able to survive in the face of current and future climate change. The huge amount of genomic data available from next-generation sequencing tools is revolutionising our understanding of the genetic basis of adaptation. In turn, it is accelerating the development of new statistical methods that can predict the genomic vulnerability of forest trees to climate change in space and time, and determine the potential for genetic maladaptation under changing climatic conditions. In this PhD thesis, I used maritime pine (Pinus pinaster Ait.), a long-lived conifer native to the western part of the Mediterranean basin, as a case study to unravel the spatial patterns of genetic variation at the range-wide and regional scales function of different gradients, anticipate population responses to climate change and provide insight into current trends in natural selection. The first chapter aims to understand how, at the scale of the species range, genetic variation, adaptability and the potential for short-term maladaptation to future climatic conditions are distributed from the range core towards the geographical and climatic margins. The second chapter examines the spatial patterns of contemporary natural selection by analysing phenotypic changes in response to current selective pressures, and provides an overview of current trends in local adaptation to climate change for maritime pine in the wild. The third chapter aims to identify the spatial patterns of genetic variation of maritime pine in the Corsica Island, characterized by specific features and constituting valuable genetic resources for the species, and to analyse their current 4 and future adaptive capacities to climate change. Overall, this PhD thesis studies the underlying drivers and potential of maritime pine adaptive responses to changing environmental conditions at different spatial and temporal scales, thus contributing to the development of an integrative framework essential for anticipating population responses to climate change, on the basis of which robust predictions for conservation and management strategies can be developed

Full textThe study of tropospheric pollution includes the study of trace gases coming from various anthropogenicsources that can impact scales ranging from local to global. To characterise this pollution, it is necessary tobe able to measure with precision pollutant concentrations. Within the frame of European projects, threeairborne campaigns in the Mediterranean Basin, in West Africa and in Malaysia were conducted to measuredifferent types of pollutants thanks to, among others, an infrared laser spectrometer, SPIRIT, able to rapidlymeasure on-line small variations in NO2 and CO. The data sets of these trace gases (and others) have beencombined with a Lagrangian model of particle dispersion, FLEXPART, to fingerprint different sources of localand regional air pollution. Thus, this thesis presents the measurements and the modelling work undertakenin order to define the sources of pollution of each region. It has been shown that the Mediterranean Basinwas impacted, in the mid to upper troposphere during summer, by biomass burning emissions coming fromSiberia and the Northern American continent. West African and Malaysian regions are also impacted bybiomass burning emissions transported from central Africa in the first case, and from local fires in thesecond. In addition, those regions are influenced by emissions coming from oil exploitation and maritimetraffic. FLEXPART was used in order to identify the origin of the pollution peaks measured during thecampaigns. It has been shown that atmospheric conditions, which define the injection height of the oilplatform plume, and also the emission flux are key parameters in the characterisation of the measurementsby the model

Full textThe objectives of this thesis are to study the coupled interannual variability in the Tropical Atlantic associated to the linear dynamics and the teleconnections with the Tropical Pacific El Niño variability. Our study suggest first that low-frequency wave dynamics (Kelvin and Rossby waves propagation) is to a large extent at work in the Tropical Atlantic, and play a significant part in the ocean-atmosphere mechanisms that can lead to the Atlantic Equatorial mode. The results of coupled experiments show that peak in SST variability in the 1 to 3 year band, as observed in the Equatorial Atlantic, is partly due to the local air-sea interactions, whereas remote ENSO Pacific forcing controls the lower frequency variability (3-7 year). Our results point out the complexity of the Equatorial Atlantic ocean-atmosphere system which predictability depends on the Pacific ENSO conditions and/or the high-frequency atmospheric activity

Full textDuring the second part of the Middle Bronze Age, between, XVth and beginning of the XIIIth century BC, many bronze bracelets, anklets, pins and torcs are produced and buried in the northern part of Atlantic Europe, mainly within hoards. This constitutes a peculiar moment, in which this hoard phenomenon evolves, particularly through a significant increase of the buried and immersed metallic mass. If it is evidently consistent with a strong increase of the production, it does not completely explain the plethoric quantity of bronze objects removed from the economic circulation.Through the detailed inventory of bronze ornaments and their typo-technologic classification, but also their spatial and statistics analysis, it has been showed that the ornament typological attribution required being as accurate as other object categories, providing crucial information about cultural interpretation. This revised classification identifies 14 types of pin, 2 of torcs and 27 of bracelets and anklets. These types form the major part of Middle Bronze Age 2 bronze ornament production yet discovered in Atlantic France, including imitating productions and importations from neighbouring areas.Concerning the technological aspect, one of the main contributions of this research is the demonstration of the predominant use of lost-wax-casting technique in the production of plain bracelets and anklets. A technique of wax slicing has been highlighted: clear examples from Bignan and Trégueux hoards indicate that strips and coils were cut in a wax drafts then individually curved and decorated, before smelting. This study concerns a wide geographical area, allowing considering different production/diffusion networks. Local specificities have been identified through the presence of types whose area of diffusion is clearly restricted/which have a restricted area of diffusion or by the hoard composition distinguishable from the neighbouring areas.Several groups are identified at a regional scale, characterized by the burying of a certain type of ornaments whose morphology and ornamentation are specific of a distinct area. The precise typo-technological analysis identify/allows to identify productions which are preferentially deposited in a specific area, but also to recognize the possible importations, affinities and influences visible through ornaments. Interactions between these groups have been estimated at different scales, allowing clarifying the outlines of the Atlantic space.Long-distance trades have been detected during Middle Bronze Age through the importation of materials (Baltic amber, Middle East glass, etc.), but also ornaments, particularly visible between Atlantic France, the South of England, Luneburg and Schleswig-Holstein. If it is not possible to reconstruct precisely the nature of these trades, it could be tempting to interpret them in terms of people circulation, maybe by matrimonial exchanges. Ornaments are often use in this context in modern or ancient societies. Finally, bronze ornaments are proven to be excellent indicators for the study of Atlantic Middle Bronze Age societies. This research has contributed to a better understanding of this period from a cultural, socio-economic, technical and symbolic matter

Full textThe aims of this thesis work were to shed new lights on the functioning of the microbial food web (MFW) in the Thau coastal lagoon through a “global approach” that permit us to study simultaneously the entire MFW components (21 groups) from viruses to microzooplankton. Growth and mortality of microorganisms were studied experimentally along seasons and during a mesocosm experiment. We particularly focus on mortality due to microzooplankton (<200µm) grazing and viral lysis. Responses of the different components of the MFW under a typical Mediterranean forcing, flash flood, was also studied during an in situ monitoring and a mesocosm experiment in the Thau Lagoon. In conclusion, it appears that heterotrophic bacteria show the highest growth rates (until 2.18 day-1). Growth rates of pico- and nanophytolankton groups were always lower than 1.5 day-1. The major cause of mortality of the different group studied, reaching on average 90%, was due to the predation by the microzooplankton. Mortality due to viral lysis appeared to be a “sporadic processes”, less important than microzooplankton grazing indeed. In addition, the observed grazing rates or bacterivory were close to growth rates of microorganisms, suggesting an efficient trophic transfer of the microbial biomass towards higher trophic levels.River flash flood; an important forcing in the Mediterranean coastal zone; triggered on a short time scale, a decrease in growth and grazing rates of microorganisms whereas viral lysis was enhanced. However, the important dynamics of this studied MFW allowed the rapid reestablishment of growth and grazing rates, indicating a strong resilience capability of this system

Full textThe study of the aeolian material in the sedimentary archives of the NEATO contributes to document the paleoclimatic changes in this region. However, the interpretation of these records is complicated by the fact that proxies used in the deep sea sediments to reconstruct the provenance regions and the associated atmospheric transport patterns remain poorly constrained. A study of the aeolian deposits in the present-day climatic context was carried out on the West African margin in order to improve our understanding of the proxies. In this frame, a mineral dust deposits trap was installed in 2006 on the Senegalese coast, providing a unique aeolian deposits time series with a temporal resolution better than a week. The first part of this study consists in a multi-proxy analysis of the aeolian deposits collected from 2006 to 2009 (including grain-size distribution, clay mineralogy and strontium and neodymium isotopic ratios) and the subsequent development of a calibration of these tracers in terms of provenance regions and transport patterns in the present-day climatic context. In a second part, this calibration was (1) tested against sea surface sediments of the NEATO and then (2) used to decipher the aeolian terrigenous signal recorded during the last 26 000 years in the MD03-2705 core (18°05N; 21°09W). This PhD work contributes to document in which ways this initial present-day calibration of the aeolian proxies can contribute to improve our understanding of the terrigenous signal in NEATO

Full textEcosystem restoration has been identified as one approach to slow down the loss of biodiversity and to protect all the biodiversity-based goods and services from which humankind benefits. Restoration feeds from knowledge coming from both community ecology and restoration ecology. The objectives of the thesis are to provide insights on both the dynamics of a mediterranean steppe after changes in land-use and the implementation of techniques which could be applied to restore this ecosystem after severe anthropogenic disturbances. The thesis takes as a study object the La Crau Mediterranean steppe, and especially former cultivated fields to study the recovery after cultivation and the Cossure large scale rehabilitation project to experiment rehabilitation and restoration techniques. Concerning dynamics after severe exogenous anthropogenic disturbances, we confirmed the low resilience of the steppe plant community both at mid- (30-40 years) and long-term (150 years) while the resilience of soil parameters and mycorrhizal infestation rate are effective on the long-term. Moreover we confirmed the role played by the three filters in the plant community recovery and found that for the La Crau steppe, this is firstly driven by the abiotic filter, then by the dispersion filter and finally by the biotic filter. Given this low resilience, we tested several restoration techniques applied at large-scale within the Cossure rehabilitation project: nurse species seeding, topsoil removal, hay transfer and soil transfer. In order to assess the efficiency of restoration techniques we developed indices to measure the community structure integrity, disentangling lower and higher abundances compared to the reference. The best results were obtained with soil transfer, followed by topsoil removal, then nurse species seeding and finally hay transfer. The research conducted for this thesis shows that current knowledge in ecological restoration makes it possible to restore at least partially some La Crau ecosystem components, but ought to lead us to understand the importance of in situ conservation of natural habitats as a better alternative to restore them after they were destroyed

Full textIn temperate regions, historical maps have demonstrated that forest ancientness determines soil properties and the presence of some plant species. However, those differences were rarely analysed in the Mediterranean region. The main objectives of this PhD thesis are to analyse the drivers of forest cover change and the effect of temporal continuity and past land uses on forest soils and understory vegetation in the Mediterranean region. This work relies on the territory of the Regional Natural Park of Luberon. The first part consists of identifying biophysical and socioeconomic drivers of land use and forest recovery spatial distribution, based on the comparison of 1860, 1958 and 2010 land uses. Forest maintained on the least productive land while forest recovery occurred on soils with low productivity, and close to pre-existing forests. The second part investigates the effect of forest temporal continuity and past land uses on their ecological characteristics, based on floristic and pedological data. Ancient and recent forests are distributed according to soil productivity and host species of differing traits and ecological preferences. Notably, species significantly preferring ancient forests are true forest species, phanerophytes and endozoochores. If this work relies on the État-Major map, it turns out that the historical ecology of Mediterranean forests requires complementary in situ approaches in order to fully understand the complexity of past landscape uses

Full textMy PhD work focused on studying the effects of litter diversity and soil macrofauna on microbial communities under water stress. In the first part, the monitoring of microbial communities associated with leaf litter (dead leaves) and phyllosphere (living leaves) for one year under natural conditions, showed marked differences depending on the physiological state of leaves, the importance of the host plant species on microbial communities and the changes of communities during the year. A second part presents the results of a microcosms decomposition experience under two humidity conditions, a functional dissimilarity gradient of litter species and the presence / absence of a detritivorous macrofauna. Our results reinforce the importance of the plant species on microbial communities and show that the presence of scavengers encourages microbial diversity. A final section assesses the impact of a decrease in precipitation and litter diversity on microbial communities in an in situ decomposition experiment during one year, using rain excluder devices . The composition of litter mixtures has a stronger influence on the microbial communities than lower rainfall. In conclusion, the results of my work tend to underestimate the effect of a decrease in precipitation on microbial communities, but emphasize the sensitivity of the interactions between plant community, macro- and micro-organisms to climate change
Clair-Pondard, Sylvie. "L'activité lyrique en province pendant l'entre-deux guerres : le triangle Angers, Nantes, Rennes." Rennes 2, 1996. http://www.theses.fr/1996REN20003.
Full textThe present thesis reconstitutes the lyric life in Angers, Nantes and Rennes between the wars. First we studied the cultural policy in the cities, the internal functioning of the institutions and the actors of this lyric life: directors, conductors and musicians, professional singers, chorus singers, dancers, walkers-on and technicians. Then we started on the repertoire - opera, opera comic, operetta - and on its reception by the press and the audience. Then, it is the reality of the Angers, Nantes, Rennes lyric life between the wars that can be drawn up; a reality that, more than the simple restitution tackles the problem of musical taste in the provinces as well as its diffusion
