Full textAbstract Since always and especially in the current context becomes necessary to have competent, motivated and empowered human resources in order for them to perform in the best possible way their function, becoming increasingly necessary to seek and provide conditions for the various professionals to be more able to easily identify problems, propose and implement solutions, formulate and implement policies for managing people as appropriated as possible to various daily situations in an Infantry Regiment. This research work entitled "Human Resource Management Practices, Attitudes and Behaviors in Command on an Infantry Regiment", aims at analyzing the practices of human resource management in an infantry regiment. The aim is to understand what differences and which needs leads to take a different action in career soldiers and noncareer soldier’s management, analyzing as possible the differences between privates and corporals and sergeant and officers, and to identify which new challenges are arising in the current economic and financial crisis and also check if the influence in service time has an influence on the motivation of subordinates. The present work is divided into two parts, the first is a theoretical part and the second is a practical one. In the first part is made a literature research performed on the subject theme to support the theoretical part of the work. The second part of the work focuses on field work, where information was collected through surveys and interviews and draw general conclusions about the subject. Based on this work it was found that different Human Management Resources practices exist within an Infantry Regiment these have influence on the motivation of subordinates. There are also differences when the comparison is made between military as volunteers / military contracted and permanent staff. And there are in the same way differences when the comparison is made between privates and corporals with sergeants and officers.

Full textAbstract Nowadays, there is a great instability and uncertainty, from the dizzying changes in everyday life, manifest at all levels of society. Against this backdrop of change, where the Military Institution is also affected, it becomes essential to understand the designs of future generations to follow natural evolution. Thus, the mainly objective of this applied research investigation is to characterize the social representations created by the Youth Population of Viseu City about the Infantry Regiment No. 14, located in the same place. Within the scope of military sociology, this research will focus on the issue of Civil-Military Relations in a restricted sense, referring solely and exclusively to the issue about the relationship between the Young Population and the Infantry Regiment No. 14. This work is divided into three main parts. In the first part is presented the theoretical framework, which deals more broadly with Civil-Military Relations, focusing on what concern the young public. The second part is filled by methodological considerations taken into account in this investigation. The third section concerns the analysis and discussing of results obtained in field work, and the conclusions which were drawn. To obtain results in this area, the Youth Population who are at the age or ages near recruitment are the preferred universe of data collection, so that, the data obtained in this study are from hearing young people who studied in the twelfth year of the Public Schools from Viseu City. Through the analysis of data collected, we found very significant and pertinent results to the investigation. We need to appreciate the importance that this young audience assigns to the characteristics associated with the military profession, including the possibility of working in a team, the physical challenge which is the military profession and the possibility of doing something for the nation. This research may be supplemented with similar investigations, to discover what perception other youth have about other military units, based in their regions. This way, can be learned lessons, always having as main objective t he conveyance of a good image of the Military Institution.

Full textAbstract The present Research Work is about the theme “Ballistic Protection of the Infantry Soldier”. The overall goal is to develop military knowledge regarding materials and elements of light ballistic protection, in what concerns its specifications, features and technical requirements. The evolution of the elements of ballistic protection and shields is strongly related to the evolution of weaponry. New materials and fibres that allow ballistic protection to be an ally of the needs and well-being of its user have emerged. Being the user an infantryman who moves in different scenarios, fields and conditions, using fire and movement because he/she needs great mobility. These considerations led to the development of new types of protection made with composite materials due to its reduced weight. Throughout this research work ballistic tests in real life firing situation with ballistic panels were made, of exploratory character. Concerning the research method the hypothetical-deductive method was used, which is meant to prove the hypothesis considered at the beginning of the research and this way give answers to the problems that have emerged by the data analysis and ballistic tests. The present work is divided into six chapters. The first chapter refers to the introduction of the theme. The second chapter refers to the review of the literature to the understanding of the study. The third explores the methods and procedures used throughout the research. The forth chapter refers to ballistic panels. In chapter five the results are presented and analysed. The conclusions and future recommendations are in the sixth chapter. It can be concluded that the elements of ballistic protection present many requirements. The most important being the link between the capacity of protection and its reduced weight in order to maintain the fight efficiency of the Infantry soldier.

Full textAbstract This study focused on the “Characterization of the role efficacy performed by the Junior Officers and/or Captains of Infantry, Case study: 1st Parachutist Infantry Battalion and 1st Mechanized Infantry Battalion”. This research aims to characterize and identify the command and leadership competences of Junior Officers and Captains of Infantry and the dimensions of role efficacy that promotes that efficacy for the exercise of command. For the research, it was conducted a questionnaire of leadership competences with 23 leadership competencies and three criteria factors (extraordinary effort, efficacy and satisfaction) and a survey on the role efficacy with ten dimensions of role efficacy . These questionnaires were carried out at 101 1st Military Parachutist Infantry Battalion and 1st Battalion Mechanized Infantry military men, divided by the three classes (Officers, NCOs and Privates). The major outcome from the dataset analysis is that subordinates recognize that all the leadership competences contribute to the role efficacy of the Junior Officer and Captain of Infantry, with special emphasis on the following competences, “consideration”, “ability to solve problems” “influence/reference”, “empathy”, “interpersonal relations”, “teamwork and cohesion”, “conflict management and negotiation”, “task orientation”, “recognition, positive feedback and valorization”, “vision” and “proactivity”. The results indicate that from the ten dimensions of role efficacy under study, the subordinates identify the following, “confrontation”, “influence”, “creativity”, “proactive”, “helping relationship” and “interdependence” as those that contribute most to role efficacy of the Junior Officers and Captains of Infantry.

Full textAbstract In any organization exists a relationship between the organization and the individuals that play functions in the same organization, where the organizational culture has a fundamental role. This relationship has the objective to satisfy bothinterests. In the Army, the Infantry Officer, during his functions play, he tries to achieve his objectives and own ambitions, by the organization’s needs, that sees their own interests achieved, proposing a career development, creating a Career Plan to the Officer. This investigation is divided in two parts. The theoretical part that is resumed to a literature revision that establishes a conceptual guideline of theme, related to Human Resources Management, continuing with a Military Career analysis and finishing with a legal guideline of the same career. The practical part, using an inquisitive and an inductive method, consists in an application of interviews and questionnaires with the objective to collect data about the Infantry Officer instruction and about the opinion on some questionsrelated to same career, for later, with the inductive method, analyze the data collected to establish some conclusions. It was concluded that the Infantry Officer Career allows a conciliation between the individuals and the organizational interests, by the possibilities that the Army gives. The career development depends on the instruction given, that prepares the Officer to the Command Function into the different ranks. It is proposed to develop an career counseling organ and to develop alternative careers, following the studies that have been already done, with the objective to potentiate the conjugation of individuals and organizational interests.

Full textDans les écrits produits au Portugal au XVe siècle, réorganiser les habitudes et les coutumes des hommes de cour, et, par extension, les autres hommes du royaume, est devenu l'un des principaux objectifs de nobles, de rois et d'infants versés dans les lettres appartenant à la dynastie récemment arrivée au pouvoir, la dynastie d'Aviz. Pour cette réorganisation, l'enregistrement écrit a été considéré par les lettrés et les gouvernants, un instrument privilégié pour convaincre ses contemporains de que prendre soin de soi-même, de son propre corps et de l'esprit, et de bien gouverner le royaume pourraient apporter le bonheur, la paix et la prospérité. Dans la liste des pratiques d'auto-soins partagées, la conservation du corps sain, fort et agile s'est configuré progressivement comme l'un des éléments clés de la morale prévus par tels hommes de pouvoir et de lettres. Les nobles d'Aviz ont fait attention à la conservation de l'harmonie physique et spirituelle, appuyée sur la notion de santé diffusée par les physiciens lettrés de cette époque-là. Le contact constant avec les maladies collectives depuis le XIVe siècle, ainsi que la présence plus régulière de médecins dans la vie des hommes de cour semblent avoir réveillé de nouveaux sens pour les soins du corps, associés à la conservation de la santé. Full textAbstract This Applied Research Paper is focused in the "Typology of Behavioral Conflicts in the Infantry Units". It aims to contribute to the theoretical framework and practical in the field of organizational behavior - conflict management in the military context. For the study, twelve exploratory interviews were completed and three hundred and twenty surveys to a sample military which was divided into three categories: officers, sergeant and garrisons. From the data collected and the survey responses, the processing and statistical analysis, using the program Statistical Package for Social Sciences, was developed. From the present study, eight types of behavioral conflicts urged, namely "unmet needs of individuals"; "organizational complexity"; "not functioning hierarchy"; "performance and rewards criteria’s", "lack of professionalism" "personal interests "and "assigned tasks” " and “deadline pressure”. Analyzing the results, it is clear that the conflict that originates from "personal interests" is the one which have the highest probability in the infantry units. The "organizational complexity" is where we will find the lower probability of occurrence. To optimize the conflicts, which are inevitable, it is necessary to confront them with an attitude of "collaboration" where both parties win, generating a climate of trust and respect. It is concluded that for the organization it is advantageous to maintain a slight intensity of conflict, promoting change, innovative thinking and environment knowledge development, as well as organizational development. The conflict generates balanced diversity of points of view, increases the likelihood of innovative solutions and increases the quality of decisions. Everyone that has a leadership position in the Infantry units has a crucial role in the optimization of behavioral conflicts.

Full textAbstract This Investigation paper on the theme “The Infantry Battalion of the European Union Battlegroup” aims to clarify the capabilities and features of a maneuver battalion sized unit required to integrate a BG. The aim is to carry out a study directed to identify which Infantry Battalion is more suitable to integrate a BG. To conduct this study, I went through an exhaustive bibliographical research, which was the basis for the development of a questionnaire intended to verify the hypotheses related with the main question raised: “Which Infantry Battalion is more appropriate for the Battlegroup?” The method used was a qualitative analysis, under a case study format. After analyzing the results it is concluded that a light infantry unit with a strong deployment capability, and material and equipment providing protection and mobility its the best answer, organized in order to allow more flexibility of employm ent, through combinations of several different types of assets, including suportting capabilities to increase its own potential may contain an organization that confers greater flexibility, by combining various types of media and other capabilities including the ability to increase employment.

Resumo: Este trabalho pretendeu: a) analisar a composição da Escola quanto às relações de trabalho em seu interior e quanto aos recursos materiais-financeiros para sua sustentação; b) identificar e comparar as peculiaridades das escolas em relação a alguns aspectos de sua estrutura e funcionamento. c) analisar as expectativas de Escolas, de Delegacia de Ensino e de Entidades de Classe do Magistério sobre a Escola-Padrão; d) analisar e comparar as posições dos agentes envolvidos nas escolas estudadas, bem como as dos profissionais da Delegacia de Ensino e dos dirigentes das Entidades de Classe do Magistério em relação ao Regimento Escolar, em especial, com referência ao seu papel na escola. Foi construído o referencial teórico e normativo: a escola como organizaçâo burocrática e a questâo da natureza do trabalho pedagógico, a organizaçâo do trabalho na Escola Pública, o Projeto Pedagógico e o Regimento Escolar. O método utilizado foi a abordagem qualitativa mediante estudo de caso - em duas escolas estaduais comuns e uma Escola-Padrão. Os dados foram coletados por meio de observações diretas (1992-1995), entrevistas semi-estruturadas e análise documental. Os resultados principais foram: não há uma integração total entre os diversos segmentos da escolas de um modo geral. Na Escola-Padrão 'Tiradentes', o recebimento de recursos financeiros para desenvolver os projetos não autônomos do Plano Diretor contribui para sua autonomia financeira e pedagógica, enquanto as escolas comuns, por não receberem recursos, estão fortemente atreladas à Delegacia de Ensino e à Secretaria da Educação. Nas três escolas de ensino fundamental e médio pesquisadas, contrariando a teoria apresentada, o Regimento Escolar não é fruto do Projeto Pedagógico. O Regimento Escolar utilizado não é o Regimento Comum das Escolas Estaduais de 1º e 2º Graus (1978), como deveria sê-la. Os Regimentos Comuns (1977 e 1978) não foram ajustados aos novos tempos e à nova realidade. O Regimento Escolar está no dia-a-dia das escolas, mas nem todos os agentes internos tornam conhecimento dele, chegando mesmo a desconhecê-la. Não há divulgação da sua existência e da sua importância, nem do seu conteúdo completo. Duas das três escolas pesquisadas, 'Romana' e 'Tiradentes' -, por intermédio do Conselho de Escola, apresentam um embrião de participação, quer seja pelos pais, quer seja pelos alunos ou pelos professores, na elaboração das Normas Disciplinares ou do Código Disciplinar. Isso constitui um indício de que elas são capazes também de elaborar o seu próprio Regimento Escolar. Finalmente, são apresentadas algumas ações para tornar o Regimento Escolar um instrumento real e efetivo de organização e funcionamento do trabalho na escola pública e sugestão de fases de elaboração do Regimento Escolar, em direçâo à autonomia, libertando-se das amarras da burocracia da Secretaria da Educação
Abstract: The proposes of this study were: a) to analyze the School organization in relationship to its internal work and to the material-financial resources for its maintenance; b) to identify and compare the eculiarities of the schools in relation to some aspects of its structure and operation; c) to analyze the expectations of Schools, of School Superintendence and of Teacher's Associations it about the 'Escola-Padrao' (standard school); d) to analyze and compare the perspectives of the actors involved in the schools researched, as well as the one of the professionals of the School Superintendence and of the leaders of the Teacher's Associations especially in relation to the role of the School Statute. The teoretical and normative framework was built around the concepts of the school as a bureaucratic organization, the nature of the pedagogical work, the organization of the work in the Public School, the Pedagogical Project and the School Statute. This study used the qualitative research method, through the case study, in two regular state public schools and in 'Escola-Padrão'. The data were collected through direct observations (1992-1995), semi-structured interviews and documental analysis. The main results were: generally, there is not a total integration among the several segments of the schools. In the 'Escola-Padrao', the situation begins to become different. The availability of financial resources to develop the non autonomous projects of the managing Plan contributes to 'Tiradentes' School's financial and pedagogical autonomy, while the regular schools don't receive resources and are strongly harnessed to the School Superintendence and to the State Secretary of Education. In the three schools researched, all of them, of elementary and secondary levels, rain against the theory presented that the School Statute should be coherent with the Pedagogic Project. The School Statute in use sometimes is not the State Elementary and High School Common Statute (1978). The Common Statutes (1977 and 1978) were not adapted to the new reality. The School Statute is part of the school daily routine, but not many notice it, nor become aware of it, because they ignore the Statute of their own school There is not publicity of its existence and of its importance, nor of its full content. The publicity, when existing, is fiagmentary, sometimes verbal, and rarely written. Two of the three schools researched, 'Romana' and 'Tiradentes', through the School Council, show a participation embryo, be it by the parents, the students, or the teachers, in the preparation of the Discipline Norms or Discipline Code. This is an indication that they are also capable to elaborate their own Statute. Finally, some actions are presented to transform the School Statute into a real and effective tool in the organization of the work in the public school and a suggestion of phases for the preparation of the School Statute, in the direction of its autonomy, freeing itself from the bureaucracy ties of the State Secretary of Education

Full textAbstract The title of this study is “Characterization of Leadership Behaviours and its influence on the Organizational Climate of Infantry Units”. The objectives of the study are to identify and characterize the behaviour of the Portuguese Army Infantry Subalterns, as well as to identify and characterize the more evident dimensions of the organizational climate within the Infantry Units. The basis of the study is a survey constituted by a questionnaire on leadership competences – composed by six dimensions of leadership and three criterion factors -; and a questionnaire on the organizational climate, with six dimensions. A sample of 804 people in the military, divided in three categories (30 Subalterns, 81 Sergeants and 693 Privates) were subject of the survey. Regarding the dimensions of leadership, most subordinates understand that their commanders (Subalterns), focus mainly on guidance for the tasks. The most valued dimensions are: “guidance for the mission by example, et hics and determination”; “vision and external and internal environment”. To obtain the highest performances, the command actions which are mostly valued by subordinates are, in the following order: “effectiveness”, “satisfaction” and “extraordinary effort”. Results indicate that Infantry Units are characterized by a climate which is mainly based on “respect”, “trust”, and “interpersonal relations” developing from the good existing relationships in the group. According to the same results, much importance is also given to clear and precise “communication”. The conclusion is that Subalterns practice significantly the following leadership behaviours: “decision making and planning”, the external and internal vision” and “conflict management through transparency”.

Full textAbstract The current economical conjuncture carries inevitable dificulties for the militar institucion, particularly for the Army. the level of motivation is through the organizational support of the Portuguese Army on a daily bases and therefore "have a high moral" not only refers to a motivational process essential when in conflict situations, but equally important for the proper functioning of the military organization. In this context, the motivacional theme arises in a important way, specially about the current motivations of infantrymen with low echelon. This investigation has the objective to evaluate de relationship between the motivations of Infantries’ Petty Officer Berkley for ingressing and staying in the Special Troops (especifically Paratroopers, Special Operations and Commandos). The field work, used a quantitative methods, based on a survey provided to 37 Infantries’ Petty Officeres integrated in Special Forces, divided in 5 units: RI 10, RI 15, ETP, CTC e CTOE. It was possible to identify the main motivational aspects that lead the military infantry belonging to the special troops, such as the distribution of the main motivating factors for entry and residence in the Special Forces in two dimensions - the intrinsic character motivations, which relate to the work itself, overlying the main motivations of extrinsic character, which appear less prevalent in the decision of the Subaltern Officers Infantry Special Forces. The main factors referred are: the type of operations, professional realization, social status, physical and technical training, and the bonding between equals. External factors, such as work conditions and appreciation of their work are less significant.

Full textAbstract This study focuses on the subject of competencies, under the title: “Leadership competencies of the infantry subaltern: performanceperceptions”. The purpose of that investigation is to identify, through a documental research, questionnaires and interviews application, on the development of the infantry subaltern a collection of important competencies to their performance. In a sample of 99 militaries, that includes cadets from the 4th year of the infantry graduation, senior and infantry subaltern of the permanent staff, the questionnaire used is an adaptation of the competencies model developed by Tubbs (2005), in the paper: “Exploring a Taxonomy of Global Leadership Competencies and Meta-competencies”. Later we try to estimate, in face of an assemblage of meta-competencies grouped in competencies, the degree of solicitation on the militaries and the degree of development of those. The purpose of this investigation is to understand the adaptive behaviours of the infantry subaltern in it´s function performance. For this, we have to understand the sum of the characteristics associated, as well as understand the evaluation of the perception associated to the infantry subaltern behaviour in three moments: after the conclusion of the graduation and before the command experience, after the command experience as second-lieutenant and after some time on the second-lieutenant post.The last purpose is to understand which are the characteristics that take to a better adaptation of the training for the infantry officers, acting as formation. This taxonomy is important to estimate which are the most important competencies for the infantry subaltern of the permanent staff. Moreover this study interferes directly on the graduation, acting in conformity with the challengeof the XXI century, allowing to develop in students a assemblage of competencies that gives them the ability of acting in any situation, independently of context.

O objetivo deste trabalho consiste em identificar no Regimento de Escolas Estaduais em que medida estas superaram o que prescrevia o documento Normas Regimentais Básicas para as Escolas Estaduais, e o que os pontos analisados sugerem a respeito da autonomia escolar. Para o seu desenvolvimento utilizou-se a metodologia de investigação qualitativa, realizada por meio de dois procedimentos de coleta e análise de dados: no primeiro momento, foi feito um levantamento bibliográfico e documental, com consulta às obras e demais estudos que tratam da questão da autonomia e da autonomia escolar, bem como a legislação e demais documentações referentes ao tema. This research investigates the process of drafting the Rules Elementary Schools in the State Board of Education of Bauru-SP, on the context of the educational policy of the end of the 80 and beginning of the 90, the educational principles of autonomy an democratic management in the Federal Constituition of 1988; in the National Education Laws of Policies in Bases nº 9.394/96, and the document called Basic Standards Rules for States Schools, which served as a reference for each school draw up its own rules, from the year 1998. The objective of this study is to identify schools in the Rules of State, to what extent they overcame what prescribed the document “Basic Standards Rules for State Schools”, and suggest that the points discussed on school autonomy. For the development of this work was used a methodology of qualitative research, conducted through two procedures for collecting and analyzing data: the first time, it made a documentary and bibliographical survey, consultation with the works and other studies that deal with the issue of and autonomy of school autonomy as well as legislation an other documentation relating to the subject. Full textAbstract The current action scenarios as well as the scenarios expected for the future are becoming more and more demanding for the military personnel, mainly for those with command responsibilities. Thus, the institutions of military training and the Military Academy in particular, focus their training upon three main areas: the academic training, the military and behavioral training and the physical training. The present research intends to evaluate what young officers (namely junior officers) think about the training received at the Military Academy, taking into account the importance they confer to the different training areas regarding their own performance in terms of the tasks they must be proficient. This study shows the perspectives of junior officers, and also presents, though very briefly, the points of view of some officers involved in the training. Hence, the study is divided into two main parts: the first and more theoretical part which supports the study; the second and more practical part, based on surveys and interviews which have given rise to the quantitative and qualitative data. Through the analysis of the questionnaires, some conflicting points regarding the components of training became visible amongst junior officers, particularly those concerning the balance between the three areas described above and the amount of training received in some scientific areas. These perspectives differ in some aspects of which were cleared through interviews with officials linked to training.

Full textThe eletrocardiographic test has been used for diagnosis of cardiac arrhythmias and heart disease in horses, as well as performance evaluation and early diagnosis of worsening of athletic performance of various modalities. The activity of mounted police requires that animals are trained for long hours at walk and trotting, thus monitoring of these animals for underlying cardiac diseases that may affect their performance is of great value. In this study from 78 animals of the regiment of mounted Military Police Patrol of Espirito Santo State, Brazil, were divided into groups according to age and underwent electrocardiographic examination, followed by analyses of durations and amplitudes of the waves and QRS. There was statistical difference in T+ wave amplitude which was correlated to animals growth. These horses did not show any arrhythmias at rest, while the most common was the sinus rhythm

Full textAbstract This research explains if the preparation of the Infantry Training School for missions of Civil Protection is the most appropriate. The final goal of this research is to approach a subject that is not frequently studied but due to the current situation it becomes increasingly relevant and necessary. This work has a practical and theoretical part. In the theoretical part, the goal is to analyze the legal and conceptual board and verify the existence of legislation and standards that frame that type of mission. In the practical part, the goal is to collect information and data to reach conclusions and to respond to the problems thrown at baseline. The fieldwork aims also to contribute with experiences and opinions to increase the efficiency of the I nfantry Training School on missions like this. The methodology used in this work is mostly based in the manual of investigation in social science, whose authors are Raymond Quivy and Luc Van Campenhoudt. However, other authors are referred in the methodology area, as Gil, Carmo and Ferreira, Sarmento and Coutinho. The work allows verifying that there are improvements to be made. There should be a greater investment in education and training, a greater concern and awareness of the highest levels for this area of civil protection and a greater attention to the means of protection that the military use to fulfill their missions. The conclusion reached is that the Infantry Training School is prepared to respond to requests from the structure of Civil Protection. However gaps exist with regards to education, training and lack of equipment for this type of missions. The investigation also allows saying that there should be an increase of resources, more studies in this area and greater coordination between the agencies studied.

Full textAbstract This final scientific report of this master’s thesis bearing as main theme "Tactical employment of an infantry company at subversive war in Angola" as consequence author’s interest in the theme of the Colonial War, and also, for Military History in general. The central question addressed in this paper seeks to demonstrate how a infantry company, specially the Caçadores, worked in the overseas province of Angola fighting subversive actions and also how these act with the populations were exerting a psychosocial action, providing economic, education, religious and health support, so as to improve their living conditions and to gain their trust. Regarding the methodology applied in this essay, this was a framed case study in historical research, completed by a bibliographical research on thematic publications and, because the echelon chosen is the company level, research was issue on reports and memoirs of the units. It is possible to argue that the infantry company played a very important role in the fight against subversive actions through offensive actions, such as ambushes and hand blows, and as a way to act on the people in the form of psychosocial action.

Portanto, o monitoramento destes animais quanto a doenças cardíacas é importante. Full textAbstract Nowadays, the Portuguese Army is facing vast problems in fulfilling the Staff Framework due to the current economic situation. Managing People within the Military Institution should be a daily concern which implies the commitment of commanders in the leadership and motivation of the subordinates. This research is related to the theme “Characterization of leadership roles and its influence in the motivation of subordinates in Infantry Units”. The aim of this investigation is to study leadership roles in Infantry commanders at platoon level and the elements which motivate subordinates today. To accomplish this research a study was conducted with interviews and two surveys; a survey associated with Leadership Skills with six dimensions of leadership and a motivation survey with five dimensions of motivation. A group of 804 military completed the survey: 693 Privates, 81 Sergeants and 30 Junior Officers of the Permanent Staff of the Infantry Branch. The study demonstrates that in fact commanders should take into consideration several indicators in order to motivate their subordinates. The most important indicators are those related to the mission guidance by using examples, ethics and vision of the external and internal environment, i.e., the commander should be concerned in conveying to its subordinates the will to fulfill the mission, recognize the effective performance and update the abilities to perform the duties with the required efficiency. The elements which most motivate subordinates are related with the institutional and social motivation, i.e., he or she feels motivated by being a part of an institution which values camaraderie, by wearing a uniform that their proud of, for serving the homeland, for having the possibility to interact with other people and for being able to contribute to the increase of the institution’s prestige.

Full textAbstract This Applied Research work is entitled "Statistical Study on mobilizing Infantry Units during the War of África (1961-1974)".This research aims to characterize the types of units deployed by infantry units, based on the recruitment and mobilization done in continental Portugal the Azores and Madeira, as well as understanding the mobilization effort done by this unit, both in terms the rate of mobilization, and in terms of the units which exerted greater effort during the war for each of Operations Theatres during the period under study. It is of important relevance to carry out this research, the possibility of drawin g conclusions about the periods of greater and lesser mobilization effort (not considering intervention units and normal operations in each theater of operations as well as knowing the type of units more used during the conflict overseas. This work will thus enrich the history of the Infantry unit. The purpose of this research strives to answer questions derived, with the latest method to address the central issue raised. With regard to the methodology applied to this work, is a research-based historical method, using both the deductive method, taking into account a diachronic approach to the campaign, the defined time limits The collected data were essentially in textual form on the Military Academy libraries, on reports of units and the Military Historical Archive. The Applied Research Work consists of seven chapters properly outlined. In the first explained the importance of research, and the problems addressed. The second is a theoretical framework for a better perception of matter being studied. The third referenced all types of infantry units mobilized for the War of Ultramar. In the fourth, fifth and sixth chapters addresses the types of infantry units deployed by infantry unit for the Angola Theater of Operations, Guinea and Mozambique, respectively. The conclusions and recommendations are written in the last chapter.

Full textAbstract The accomplishment of this inquiry had as principle the leadership skills development study during the practice functions of Junior Officer. It focuses specifically on the leadership skills characterization of Infantry Junior Officers in Military Operations (CRO). The present inquiry has as a goal to study which of the leadership skills are the most used and developed by the Infantry Subordinated Officers for a performance of excellence in the exercise of their functions in the command of a National Dispelled Force (FND) in Crisis Response Operations (CRO). The used methodology approached, on a first phase, to a bibliographical research and on one second phase to an accomplishment of interviews and the application of an inquiry to 22 Infantry Subordinate Officers. The sample consisted of 11 Subordinate Officers with Infantry practice command of FND in CRO and 11 Infantry Subordinate Officers with practice command of National Territory Forces. Through this inquiry one attempted to characterize and relate the leadership skills of the respective Forces commands in different contexts. One certified that there are specific leadership skills for a performance of excellence of the Infantry Subordinate Officers, in the exercise of the Command functions in the FND, although there are some different ones from the National Territory Forces Commanders.

Full textAbstract This research falls within the field of human resource management and reports to the topic "Situation of human resources in Infantry units after the end of conscription." The report studies how the army obtains human resources, their training and performanceevaluation since the end of compulsory military service, also known as conscription. This analysis was intended to see how the training is geared to the current missions of the army with special emphasis for the class of privates under the volunteer / contract in Centro de Tropas Comando. The methodological approach began with a literature review and documentary analysis, after this began the field work .In this paper there were used methods like induction, inquisitive and direct observation and as measuring instruments questionnaires and interviews. We confirmed the hypotheses that say that resources are being obtained in quantity and quality required. The trainee is task-oriented and the military attach importance to the values of the institution as well as the people around them were also confirmed. It was denied that the training given in oriented training is the only part dedicated to the missions abroad. It was also denied that the importance of the privates is not taken into account in improving training. The report allows us to see how the whole process of obtaining and evaluating the military it's done on a voluntary/contract basis and the quality of this process. It also allows to characterize the various phases of training and how these contribute to the current missions of the Centro de Tropas Comando . We conclude that there is a solid and efficient structure formation in the Centro de Tropas Comando and that this is geared for current missions abroad. Although there is several parts that contribute to this training the most efficient is the mission oriented training.

Within the perspective of Cultural History this research proposes an analysis of a very important document for the History of the Inquisition in Portugal: the inquisitorial Regiment of 1640.This inquisitorial code lasted for 134 years of the 285 years of the Inquisition in Portugal, was compiled during the troubled process of restoration of the portuguese throne and replaced at the end of the controversial Pombal s period. For more than a century the Regiment dictated procedural rules and practices of the Holy Office lusitanian, their rites and labels, your public and private ceremonies; regulated on the application of punishments and served as a moral and religious teaching in the parameter control of the Inquisition under the lusitanian society and its colonies. We have described the Regiment of 1640 as the result of a long historical process. We discuss the idea of Law and Intolerance that have been shaping up in accordance with the economic, social and political factors that are constantly reconfigured through Europe during the scenarios of Middle and Modern Ages and, from these historical changes, walked the long hike until the Modern Inquisition in Portugal; their influences, struggles, conflicts, power relations and socio-cultural impacts. We trace a brief history of the Inquisition s codes, through a comparative analysis in order to better situate in relation to legal changes that converged in the Regiment of 1640. We contextualize the time of writing of 1640 regimental code. We analyzed the obstacles and the contexts of Iberian Peninsula and the inquisitorial real agents who moved in the intricate diplomatic game to redraw the boundaries after the independence of Portugal from Spain. We explore the importance of the central figures of the Inquisition in Portugal during the Portuguese Restoration s strife. We detail each of the three books that make up the regimental code: the book of ministers and officials, the book of procedural practices and the book of feathers. The analysis of the books was made with the intention of presenting the regimental details, the rich detailing of Inquisitorial Law and its justifications for its practical and specific penalties applications. When we historicizing the Inquisitorial Law, we verified its proximity to the Canon Law and its influence on the future development of a secular, scholar and written Law. In Portugal, the limits of Inquisitorial Justice and Secular Justice during the sixteenth, seventeenth and eighteenth centuries were not clear, observant of the of the monarchy s servants and agents of faith, on many occasions, their eyes walked together on their inspections in Portuguese territory and its colonies. The Roman Curia and the Portuguese Crown divided their influences under inquisitorial features, the real power applied its political and economic power within a regionalized perspective and the papacy outlined the legal and administrative functions of the Holy Office using its supranational power.
Dentro das perspectivas da História Cultural este trabalho propõe uma análise de um documento chave para a História da Inquisição em Portugal: o Regimento inquisitorial de 1640. Esse código inquisitorial vigorou durante 134 anos dos 285 anos de Inquisição em Portugal, foi compilado durante o conturbado processo de Restauração do trono lusitano e substituído no fim do controverso período pombalino. Durante mais de um século o Regimento ditou as regras e práticas processuais do Santo Ofício lusitano, seus ritos e etiquetas, suas cerimônias públicas e particulares; regulou sobre a aplicação das penas e serviu de parâmetro moral e religioso no controle pedagógico da Inquisição sob a sociedade lusitana e suas colônias. Procuramos descrever o Regimento de 1640 como fruto de um longo processo histórico. Abordamos a ideia de Direito e Intolerância que foram se amoldando de acordo com os cenários econômicos, sociais e políticos que se reconfiguravam constantemente pela Europa durante as Idades Média e Moderna e, a partir dessas mudanças históricas, percorremos o longo caminhar da Inquisição Moderna em Portugal; suas influências, lutas, embates, relações de poder e impactos socioculturais. Traçamos um breve histórico dos códigos inquisitoriais, partindo de uma análise comparativa para melhor nos situarmos em relação às mudanças legais que convergiram no Regimento de 1640. Contextualizamos o momento de elaboração do código regimental de 1640. Analisamos os entraves e contextos da Ibéria e os agentes reais e inquisitoriais que se moviam no intricado jogo diplomático que redesenhava as fronteiras independentes entre Portugal e Espanha. Exploramos a importância de figuras centrais da Inquisição de Portugal durante as contendas pela Restauração portuguesa. Detalhamos cada um dos três livros que compõe o código regimental, o livro dos funcionários, o livro das práticas processuais e o livro das penas. A análise dos livros foi elaborada com a intenção de apresentar a minúcia regimental, o rico detalhamento do Direito Inquisitorial e suas justificativas para aplicação de suas práticas e penas específicas. Ao historicizarmos o Direito Inquisitorial, verificamos sua proximidade com o Direito Canônico e sua influência na elaboração futura de um Direito laico, erudito e escrito. Em Portugal, os limites da Justiça Inquisitorial e a Justiça Secular durante os séculos XVI, XVII e XVIII não eram claros, os olhos atentos dos agentes reais e dos agentes da fé, em muitas oportunidades, caminharam juntos em suas inspeções no território português e suas colônias. A Cúria romana e a Coroa portuguesa dividiam suas influências sob as feições inquisitoriais, o poder real aplicava seu poder político e econômico dentro de uma perspectiva regionalizada e o papado delineava as atribuições legais e administrativas do Santo Ofício utilizando-se de sua força supranacional.

Full textAbstract This work is entitled "Identification of leadership skills associated with the command of Subaltern Officers and Captains of Infantry", and the objective is to identify, analyze and interrelate the leadership behaviors perceived by subordinate to the subaltern officers and captains of Infantry in their daily tasks of command and how the Officers can get their men outstanding performances, efficiency and satisfaction. To this end, was implemented a survey which consists in a questionnaire of leadership skills and three criteria factors (extraordinary effort, effectiveness and satisfaction). This survey was applied to a sample of 246 soldiers from the Portuguese Army and the Brazilian Army (17 Subaltern officers, 35 Sergeants and 194 Soldiers). The study was prepared under the perspective of the subordinate on his commander. The study found that there are differences in the level of proficiency among the Captains and Subaltern Officers being that, subordinates consider the captains most proficient that Subaltern Officers. This difference is also evident among units, and, in Mechanized Brigade and in Brazilian Infantry Army Officers there are higher proficiency perceived while the differences in perceived performance level in Rapid Reaction Brigade and Intervention Brigade are significantly lower. There is however, similarities in skills where Officers are more proficient, demonstrating that the performance and capacity and training of the officers are similar, but with different levels of demand by subordinates and different degrees of difficulty in daily missions that do this change of value. Was concluded that subordinates perceived that their commanders (Subaltern Officers and Captains) are more proficient in skills like: "Technical and Professional Aptitude", "Communication", "Orientation to the task" and "Recognition, Positive Feedback and Valorization” and less proficient skill in "Self-confidence". The results of this study goes for the work done by Sousa (2014) which identified a greater propensity to dimension "orientation for the mission by example and ethics" and also to the communication style "assertive", with the exception of the officers of Rapid Reaction Brigade and Intervention Brigade that were targeted in the investigation, using the style "aggressive communication for dominance." With respect to leadership behaviors, all skills are strongly correlated to the discretion factors. The skills that contribute most to the extraordinary performance, effectiveness and satisfaction are: "Consideration", "Technical and Professional Aptitude", "Self-control," "flexibility and adaptability", "Teamwork and cohesion", "Conflict Management and Negotiation ", " Influence / Reference "," Orientation for the task, "Interpersonal Relations", "Ability to make decisions", "transparency", "view", and "Proactive" and the skill with less influence on the criteria factors is the "Self-confidence". The Infantry Officers must seek to promote their performance improving essentially, the skills that influence the extraordinary performance, effectiveness and satisfaction of their subordinates and did not have a high perceived performance by the subordinates. In this case, the skills with higher correlation with the criteria factors are the "technical and Professional Aptitude" and the "orientation for the task" with higher proficiency values, so it is necessary, improve themselves in the remaining leadership skills identified as most important for the development of outstanding performances, efficiency and satisfaction.

Full textAbstract The theme of the present Applied Research Work is "The Potential employment of Mini-UAV systems in the Infantry: The doctrinal and conceptual Implications for the lower ranks", and aims to ascertain if the employment of Mini-UAV systems will bring benefits to the fulfillment of the tasks of the lower ranks of the infantry units, including Platoon and Company level. The methodology used was the hypothetical-deductive method. Earlier we created a central question: "How can the Mini-UAV in lower tactical echelons contribute to the fulfillment of the mission?", and this included questions derived in order to answer this. To address the issues hypotheses were drafted. So the work is based on a review of the literature, desk research and interviews. The interviews used two scripts, the first to interview four of the Permanent Officers of the Army and one for interviewing an engineer of the company TEKEVER. Through this work we can conclude that the Mini-UAV systems, bring numerous advantages at the lower levels, particularly in the context of the acquisition of information, improving the performance of the units, from planning because they make it more fluid and faster until the execution of their missions because they are constantly being updated with real-time information, which will make the operation more precise in terms of the ultimate goal, thus reducing the likelihood of collateral damage and increasing the likelihood of success.

In this work, has been conducted a study that allows survey which the leadership skills are being used the Infantry platoon Officers of the Permanent Staff (QP), in the exercise of there functions in Detached National Forces (FND). The completion of this research work, requires the identification of a target universe limited to 92 individuals, this universe is the set of Infantry Platoon Officers of the QP. For the collection of data and research, was considered a sample of 30 individuals, of which 10 are Platoon Officers Infantry with Command and practice in FND and 20 are Infantry Platoon Officers with command in the National Territory forces. Through this investigation, we sought to characterize the leadership skills of their commands forces in different contexts. The study concluded that the Infantry Platoon Officers in the office of Commander in FND, use specific leadership competencies, which are grouped together in another context of mission, differ in part from the set of skills most used by Platton Infantry Officers in Command of National Territory Forces.

His main objective is the performance of a Survey that allows assessing the vulnerabilities and the antiarmor capacity of the infantry battalions in Intervention Brigade. The completion of this investigation work, obliged to the identification of a Target Universe, which for the purpose of the study conducted, considers all the Officers performance tasks with direct or indirect influence in the application of the means and Antiarmor Capacity of the Intervention Brigade and Mechanized Brigade. For the data collection, was considered a sample of 10 individuals, of which 8 Officers serve in the Intervention Brigade and 2 serve in the Mechanized Brigade. Through this investigation, sough to characterize and relate the several potentialities and vulnerabilities of the Antiarmor Capacity of the Infantry Battalions in Intervention Brigade, in order to compare their application mode with the application mode and performance of Foreign Forces. The performed Survey, concluded that Infantry Battalions in Intervention Brigade, for the fulfilment of his mission has as antiarmor potentialities, the range of anti-tank guide missile MILAN, and the antiarmor vulnerabilities are the limitations employment characteristics of the means.

Full textAbstractThis work aims to verify how the direct relation between the dynamics promoted by Cavalry Regiment No. 3 and the various activities in the county of Estremoz existing. In order to assess the importance of this reflection and unity, since there is a perception that the dynamics of Estremoz is developed according to thatorder. The absence of this unit would put into question the activities of the county. Thus, through a survey by questionnaire administered to 375 persons in the county of Estremoz and several interviews, sought to find answers to the problem raised. From the analysis of data collected was reached, some significant results, in particular, the strong link between the military and the population. This bond created comes in much of its history, as well as satisfactorily as the military are seen. Also, all leading role that the Cavalry Regiment, No. 3 has played, contributed to the effective development of streets. This is a work which could supplement with other studies, including the level of knowledge of the reality of the population in other regions of the country and could then set up a comparison between different regions, where there are also military units.

Este trabalho trata do gerenciamento do Hospital Universitário da UFSC, nos níveis estratégico, tático e operacional, na percepção de seus dirigentes. O estudo de caso realizado em caráter exploratório e de abordagem qualitativa tem como foco principal, as funções fundamentais da administração: planejar, organizar, dirigir/comandar, coordenar e controlar. Buscou-se através do Regimento Interno e das entrevistas realizadas com 32 gestores do HU, no período de junho a agosto de 2002, interpretar as funções gerenciais contidas neste Regimento; identificar as funções gerenciais realizadas, na perspectiva dos gestores e posteriormente, comparar e apresentar uma reflexão crítica destas funções. A análise dos dados levantados foi feita através da Análise de Conteúdo de Bardin (1977). Inicialmente, através de uma análise documental, apresentou-se uma descrição do Regimento Interno com algumas reflexões. Em seguida realizou-se a Análise de Conteúdo, emergindo a primeira categoria: Funções gerenciais na percepção dos dirigentes do HU da UFSC, que agrupou as sub-categorias: O Regimento Interno do HU da UFSC (categorias temática: O que os gestores conhecem sobre o Regimento Interno; Composição; Coerência; Abrangência; Delimitação e Aderência) e; A prática dos gestores HU da UFSC (categorias temática: Apresentando conhecimentos e opinando sobre a prática das funções; Planejar; Organizar; Dirigir/Comandar; Coordenar; Controlar) e a segunda categoria: As características dos gerentes do HU da UFSC, com as seguintes sub-categorias: Estilos gerencias dos gestores (categorias temática: Democrático; Autocrático; Liberal; O que os gestores do HU pensam sobre os estilos gerenciais) e Habilidades gerenciais (categorias temática: Habilidade conceitual; Habilidade humana; Habilidade técnica).Observou-se que as funções gerenciais encontradas no Regimento Interno estão em linhas gerais, possibilitando flexibilidade e direcionamento ajustados a cada órgão institucional. No entanto, algumas questões merecem ser repensadas com a participação e a integração efetiva de todos os indivíduos, visto que são raros os gestores que têm conhecimento mais detalhado deste documento e conseqüentemente de suas competências inscritas. Os resultados da análise apontaram também que, na prática gerencial, os gestores realizam suas funções de forma doméstica em busca de solucionar emergências, concentrando os esforços da rotina em "apagar incêndios". A pouca valorização dos cargos de chefia, dando prioridade mais para a prática assistencial, permeia a idéia de que gerenciar é uma prática pouco relevante dentro do hospital, que se constitui em grandes limitadores de uma gestão dinâmica. Sendo então que, o desenvolvimento gerencial e contínuo de aprendizagem, requer que seja revisto valores e conceitos pré-concebidos, através da integração e da geração de uma consciência e responsabilidade coletivas. Assim sendo, o estudo construído estimula a busca de novas reflexões e novos horizontes para uma efetiva prática gerencial na área de saúde.

Full textAbstract In every organization’s life, which the main objective is formation, it is necessary a constant update of the subjects and the formative requests to give the right skills to the job that his students are going to do when their formation is over. The Military Academy is not an exception, and has been looking through the years to accompany the evolution at the academic formation, comparing itself with other High School University establishments, and by the necessities of the new military operations specter, as well as in physical training, where it is looking to hail cadets with physical skills which assure them a good performance in the future missions that could been give to them. So, this work is subordinate to the subject: “The Physical Training in the Military Academy and the Infantry Officer’s Skill Profile”. This investigation is made with the purpose of present a study about the Physical Training in the Military Academy and the way it develops skills for the future Infantry Officer, which assure a good performance in operational environment, such as, Operational Theater which Portugal has took part. With purpose of collect information, in the literature revision, it was developed an extended documental analysis. At the practice part, it was made interviews to Infantry’s Subalterns Officers which have operational experience at the Operational Theaters of Kosovo and Afghanistan. The results had shown that the Physical Training in the Military Academy develops essential skills for the good performance of Infantry’s Officer, and although there are some gaps in the development of capabilities that it is proposed to develop, the capabilities that were more needed in the actual missions of the National Projected Forces are being developed.

Full textAbstract During the missions in foreign Theater of Operations in which Portugal participates, often situations arise that were not planned and that the commanders are required to decide within a short period of time. This applied research study, follow presented and subsume to the theme "Characterization of the decision making of FND: a case study Commands" focuses on how the commanders of various echelons think and organize their ideas before making a unpredictably decision. Through this research sought to verify whether there are similarities in the decision making process to various echelons of command, especially as the style of leadership and decision-making models that each commander takes in such situations. Initially was carried out a literature research in publications that addressed the theme of this work, and then was made a field research of a qualitative nature, where interviews were applied to officers who participated in the mission in Afghanistan, in order to analyze the models of decision-making that they select before taking non-programmed decisions. This study concluded that the non-programmed decision-making process to different levels is different because the importance of the decisions that are restrained at each echelon is different and as the echelon increases most difficult is to take decisions that must be taken, that requires a greater planning and that decisions relate more influence to the entire force. Within the same echelon the decision-making models are very similar showing that the time available and the type of decisions that are characteristic of the various echelons have a great preponderance.

Full textAbstract The theme of this research work is: "Textile fibers as a part of military protection and survival." The main objective is to analyz e the applicability of textile fibers in the areas of military protection and survival. Regarding the scientific method of research we used the inductive -deductive method, a process which translated scientific facts that we intend to correlate and demonstrate. The methodological process was based on bibliographic and documentary researches and the development and analysis of a survey. Thus, this research work concluded that the fibers contain an essential contribution for survival and military protection and can bring very important valences given theaters of operations where the military operates currently and in national and international terms (European Defence Agency) the concern about the profitability of textile fibers for increased protection and work safety is an inescapable reality and a growing universe across the various areas of applicability, the simple uniforms, underwear or protective equipment. Fruit of fieldwork we also concluded that all levels of protection and survival need development but mechanical protection was taken as the level of protection and survival that most needs change. However, the combination of two or more levels of protectio n and survival is a weakness that has not been circumvented. The need to develop individual and collective equipment to support the sustainability and protection of the military is truly remarkable, and the fibers may be the answer to these challenges. However, all this development process involves research, development and costly production that often mean an obstacle to evolution

Full textAbstract The aim of this Applied Research Project is to analyze and relate the leadership behaviors and communication styles required of infantry junior officers and captains in their daily command tasks, in order to influence their subordinates to achieve extraordinary performances, effectiveness and satisfaction. For this study, a survey was implemented comprising two questionnaires: one on leadership skills including three criterion factors (extraordinary effort, effectiveness and satisfaction), and one on communication styles. The survey was administered to a sample of 819 soldiers (15 Captain Officers, 30 Junior Officers, 81 Sergeants and 693 privates and corporals). The analysis of the data revealed that subordinates perceive that their commanders (Junior and Captain Officers) practice task oriented leadership behaviors, particularly on “orientation to the mission through the example, ethics and determination” and “decision making and planning”. The behaviors exhibited by the officers strongly and positively relate with the “assertive” communication style. Moreover, all leadership behaviors practiced by the officers are strongly associated to the criterion factors, with the exception of the leadership dimension “vision and external and internal environment”, which presents weaker correlations. The leadership dimensions that Captains can conduct to promote satisfaction is “conflict management” and “participative leadership and commitment”. (In order to promote satisfaction among their subordinates, Captains should rely on the leadership dimensions "conflict management" and "participative leadership and involvement".) Based on the results, we may conclude that, of the communication styles, officers have an assertive communication, which comprises a direct communication, promoting freedom of opinion without interfering with the others. Officers must use an assertive communication in order to influence their subordinates to obtain superior performance and satisfaction.

Full textAbstract The present “Applied Inquiry Work” is subordinated to the theme: “Leadership Skills Characteristics of the Infantry Superior Officers in the Peace Support Operations” and it fits within the Course’s Final Work range of the Portuguese Military Academy cadets. It has as a goal to study which of the leadership skills are the most used and developed by the Infantry Superior Officers, for a performance of excellence in the exercise of its functions in the command of a National Deployment Force in Peace Support Operations (PSO). For our Inquiry work the sample consisted of 9 Superior Officers with command practice in PSO, and 9 Superior Officers with command practice of National Territory Forces. Through this inquiry one tried to characterize and relate the leadership skills of the Forces respective commands in different contexts. The methodology which was used, settled in a first phase on a bibliographical research and in one second phase on the accomplishment of 18 interviews to Superior Officers, as well the application of an inquiry. It was concluded that the Superior Officers in the exercise of Command functions in National Deployment Force have specific leadership skills to a performance of excellence, although there are some different ones from the National Territory Forces Commanders.

Full textAbstract This research work titled with the theme “Identification of the academic predictors for the development of leadership skills Infantry cadets”, has the aim to identify which subjects in the Military Academy contributes most to the development of leadership skills in the Cadet and Aspiring Student, in order to release some gaps in the stud ies of the future officers of the Permanent Staff. In this sense, in a first phase it was collected, all sociodemographic data and notes of the unit courses (UC), of all Army Cadets from the Army Weapons Course, as well as Cadets and Aspiring of the Infantry Course. Then, a questionnaire was applied consisting of certain issues of socio-demographic character, besides the 120 items associated with the 24 leadership skills applied to the study, in order to evaluate the perception of 112 cadets. After all of them having responded to the survey, a database was developed in Microsoft Excel, with all the information gathered so far, to start the treatment and statistical anlyses of the data using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS). In order to present more tangible and credible results, the statistical analysis was proceeded in two different ways, namely by scientific areas and through aims that the Military Academy (MA) is governed. So, regarding to the data analysis we noticed some significant differences between the leadership skills, the school years, namely in “Professional Fitness Coach”, “Problem Solving Capacity”, “Tasks Orientation”, “Promotion and Development”, “Recognition and Apreciation”, “Transparency” and “Team Work and Coherency”. We noticed also a significant correlation between various leadership skills, the scientific areas per year and the traditional aims and pillars of the MA per year. The linear regressions try to identify the predictive variables that contributed to the development of the leadership skills. So we concluded the Military Instruction (MI) has to be a variable predictor of “Self Confidence”, “Assertive Communication”, “Empathy, Flexibility and Adaptability”, “Professional Fitness Coach”, “Self Control”, “Influence/Reference”, “Participatory Leadership”, “Tasks Orientation”, “Promotion and Development” and “Interpersonal Realtionships”. Finally, The Physical Training (PT), has to be a predictor variable of the “Professional Fitness Coach”, “Self Confidence”, “Management of conflicts and negotiation”, “Proactivity” and “Vision”.

The case of the Air Defense Artillery Regiment 1 (RAAA1).” studies how human resources react to situations of change in a day-to-day basis, how this changes may represent an obstacle or, alternatively, an added value to organizational development, as well the factors that influence how human resources react. In an era of rapid change due to the current information society and constantly changing technology, people are the most valuable means that organizations have to achieve their goals. Thus, the management of change represents a mark in today´s world, in view of the continuous and multiple transformations that have been taking place. Change is certainly the watchword for organizational survival. When foreseeing change, people often exhibit defensive behaviors and reactions as a way to avoid change. It is to combat these reactions that leadership has a key role and that´s here that leaders should develop some skills to manage change and should be able to mobilize members of the organization to accept and adopt initiatives of change proposed in their daily routines. In the first part of this investigation these concepts are explained and the perspective of different authors is presented. The following practical part, presents the field work and the results obtained through the data collection instruments, namely, through questionnaires and interviews. Finally the hypotheses, the derived questions, objectives and initial question are tested, allowing the conclusion that human resources in Air Defense Artillery Regiment 1,in Queluz, are crucial in change managing and play an extremely important role in the conduct of all processes, representing a true competitive advantage.

Full textO texto aborda uma discussão sobre a mais recente reforma no campo da educação profissional no Brasil, a ifetização. A criação dos Institutos Federais de Educação, Ciência e Tecnologia consistiu na reorganização da rede federal com a integração de CEFET, Agrotécnicas, Escolas Técnicas e Unidades vinculadas a Universidades de uma mesma região, processo que resultou no surgimento de 38 institutos. Utilizamos alguns conceitos da Análise Institucional como referencial teórico, como também um conjunto documental e bibliográfico, com o fim de desenvolver um panorama histórico para compor nossas análises. O estudo tem o objetivo de expor um trabalho reflexivo a respeito da institucionalização do Instituto Federal de Educação Ciência e Tecnologia, observando o processo de ifetização no nosso Estado por meio da elaboração do Regimento Geral do Instituto Federal de Sergipe, momento em que se encontrava o processo na época da elaboração da pesquisa. Foram discutidos os temas formação docente, programas especiais, participação da comunidade, integração e autonomia. Ao final, concluímos que apesar de ser um modelo que propõe uma ruptura com as reformas e práticas anteriores, muitos aspectos e tendências históricas se repetem no processo de institucionalização do Instituto.

Full textAbstract In XVI and XIX centuries, are some of the richest in important events for the world History. Independence of America(1776 – 1783), French Revolution (1789 – 1799) and the Peninsular War (1807 – 1814), are icons of a new way of fighting where the Kings will is supplanted by a fresh ideal of freedom. In this context, Prussian Model Armies are condemned to disappear, although Light Infantry, it is increasing its projection in the battlefield. The thinking soldier had an important role in these new kinds of armies. In Europe this concept was introduced by France and its “Levée en Masse” and by England through Sir John Moore. Underlying all this evolutionary process, evolutions in the weaponry, like new kinds of barrels that allow more accuracy, gave an important opportunity to units like, Rangers, Rifles and “Caçadores”, for now long, can be used like Snipers instead of skirmishing. The Portuguese participation in the war against the recent French Republic and after that, the Franco-Spanish union, that result of the signature of the Peace of Basileia, brought a new season of military reforms, that would have provide the creation of the “Legião de Tropas Ligeiras”. D. João’s policy of being neutral and refusing taking part in the Continental Blockade, had its consequences in November of 1807, whit Napoleon’s invasion of Portugal. This time is known as Peninsular War. It’s also when appear the “Leal Legião Lusitana” and the Battalions of “Caçadores”, which are the object of study of this investigation work. This is how begins one of greatest times of Portuguese Light Infantry. É desta forma, através de uma série de factores de ordem política, social, militar e até mesmo pessoal, que a força mais brilhante de todo o Exército Anglo-Luso haveria de ser criada. Força esta, recordada nos anais da história como “Os Galos de Combate de Wellington” e que haveriam de dar início a um dos períodos áureos da Infantaria Ligeira portuguesa. It is in such a way, through a series of politics, socials, militaries and even though personals’s factors, that the best force of all Anglo-Portuguese Army was created. Such forces, remembered in annals of history as “Wellington’s Fighting Cocks” and who would have to give beginning to the golden age of the Portuguese Light Infantry.

Full textAbstract This applied research paper refers to "The importance of the autonomy of Loyal Lusitanian Legion during the Peninsular War." The main objective is to identify how this force contributed to the success of the Anglo-Portuguese army in this period. The Peninsular War will be forever in the history of Portugal as one of the moments of affirmation of the National independence. This war was fought mainly in Spain and Portugal against the French invaders, the Anglo-Portuguese army joined forces and fought from north to south, showing to be able to fight the superiority of Napoleon's army. Not that many are unaware, Leal Lusitanian Legion contributed very positively to that success. As the result of the fiery personality of Robert Wilson, the Loyal Lusitanian Legion has always tried to act with isolation and autonomy. They took actions at the forefront of the Anglo-Portuguese army, getting information, delaying, disorganizing and even preventing the advance of the invaders. All this facts allowed Beresford, directly or indirectly, to obtain success, culminating in the withdrawal of Massena in the 3rd Invasion. This research shows how the Legion was created, who supported it, their organization and how their autonomy contributed to the success of the Anglo-Portuguese army. Also explains how the Legion drove their actions and how become extinct, giving way to new Hunters Battalions. Since this is a research project, the methodology used for its preparation, was based on investigation and historical research, based on consultation and treatment of manuscript and printed primary sources, supplemented with other national textual and bibliographical sources, through research documentary, directly related to the topic to explore.

Full textAbstract This study focuses on the subject of leadership, more specifically the leadership behaviours, as judged by the trainees during the command action of the Student-Aspirant finalists in the course of Infantry of the Military Academy and it’s relationship with the trainee’s satisfaction. In a sample of 127 militaries, we used questionnaires about satisfaction and the leadership scale of Sports (LSS), adapted to the military context. This scale is composed by five dimensions, two of them referring to the instructor style of decision (democratic, autocratic), and the others referring to the interaction between instructors and trainees (training and instruction, positive reinforcement and social support). The instructors and trainees’ answers to the questionnaires gave us a reference board where the leadership behaviours perceived by the instructors and the ones perceived by the trainees matched. As for the leadership behaviours idealized by the trainees, the preference is for a style of decision that is autocratic and not democratic. Through the questionnaires about group environment, we can conclude that the people inquired are satisfied with the model of instruction and from this we can conclude that the leadership behaviours adopted by the instructor are related with the trainees’ satisfaction, more precisely, the training and instruction.

Full textNascida em 18 de junho de 1902 em Caçapava do Sul – RS (Brasil), Olmira Leal de Oliveira, popularmente conhecida como Cabo Toco, foi a primeira mulher gaúcha a ostentar a farda da Brigada Militar, quando Borges de Medeiros lutava pela legitimidade de sua reeleição ao governo do estado do Rio Grande do Sul. Recrutada aos 21 anos de idade, para servir como enfermeira voluntária, tornou-se combatente no ataque armado a suas tropas no Passo das Pitangueiras (Caçapava do Sul), no ano de 1924, onde salvou o Comandante João Vargas de Souza. Após ser conhecida na cidade de Cachoeira do Sul, onde residia, no ano de 1987, aos 85 anos de idade, pelo primeiro lugar no festival de música nativista ―Vigília do Canto Gaúcho‖, com a canção ―Cabo Toco‖, composição de Nilo Brum e Heleno Gimenez, Dona Olmira passou a protagonizar modos de narrativas, ilustrando páginas de jornais em diversas cidades do estado, participando de seminários sobre a revolução, despertando interesse nas pessoas em conhecer sua história. Neste sentido, o objetivo este trabalho foi de compreender a forma como são produzidas as narrativas de Cabo Toco e como circulam estas memórias na cidade de Cachoeira do Sul. Através de uma construção etnográfica, foi possível identificar arquivos, compostos por documentos jornalísticos sobre Cabo Toco, e narrativas orais, formuladas por uma rede de narradoras mulheres, unidas por profissões em comum, professoras ou enfermeiras, ligadas a Cabo Toco por diferentes vivências. Pelos documentos constatou-se a lembrança de Cabo Toco pelo esquecimento, pela velhice e condições precárias que se encontrava naquele momento da vida. Pelas falas das interlocutoras, a construção de uma agência diante de uma experiência de vida a ser seguida, remetida ao empoderamento feminino, reciprocidades e aprendizados sobre a vida, nas quais retratam não só Cabo Toco, mas também, autobiografias e memórias de quem narra. Diante disto, esta dissertação procura mostrar o percurso da articulação do reconhecimento de Dona Olmira enquanto heroína, partindo do local onde viveu seus últimos anos de vida e compartilhou diferentes experiências, que se transpõem na forma de narrativas.

Full textAbstract The present work of applied investigation has for objective to analyse the “introduction of the machine gun in the First World War: implications in the tactics, techniques and procedures of the infantry units in the C.E.P.” We also wan ted to describe the changes that emerged in the infantry units of the C.E.P., relatively to their tactics, techniques and procedures, during the Great War with the introduction of the machine gun in the battlefield. To limit this work we tried to narrow it in the space and time available. Within the defined time bounds to the accomplishment of this work, we applied the historic method, by having in view the time sequence, fundamental to the historic contextualization, and the analyses of the conflict evolution in that period by using a synchronic and diachronic perspective. This work of applied investigation was made into four parts, which organization we describe next. In the first we made a historical contextualization, where we verified the background that was in the origin and the why of the arms race. In the second part we tried to introduce the machine guns that equipped the C.E.P. in First World War, seeking to mention also the weapons that were replaced. In the third part of this investigation, we analysed the organization of the C.E.P. and of the German Army, as a comparison, giving special importance to their infantry units, by making reference to the changes made to better instate the machine gun in the forces and to deal with the new way of fighting. For last we investigated which were the implications of the use of the machine gun in The Great War, making reference to the need to change the way of fighting of the infantry units, and the advantages and disadvantages of the increasing number of machine guns in the battlefield.
