Abstract:
The central question addressed in the generational debate at the Socio-Economics Conference 2019 was ‘What do I expect from modern management culture?’. Generational change, digitalisation and cultural change are not only putting socio-economics and health management companies to the test, but the working world in general is becoming more dynamic, traditional business models and structures are undergoing transformation processes and disruptive developments are replacing normal phases of renewal and regeneration. These conference transcripts highlight, among other things, innovative ways of thinking, agile structures, management without a hierarchy, diversity management, managers in the future and a healthy business culture. The time of steady change is over; a time of radical change has begun.

Abstract:
The 1920s witnessed a dual black presence beyond tokenism in the chambers of the Chicago City Council as well as possessing the nation's sole black voice in the U.S. Congress. Further, the Illinois Senate, the Illinois Commerce Commission, the Cook County Municipal Court, and the Chicago Library Board accommodated a new African American membership. Among white racists, Chicago's City Hall even derisively carried the label of being “Uncle Tom's Cabin” because of extensive black employment and a small black decision-making capability. This chapter explores this occurrence. Focusing on economically regenerative politics and robust economics as integral features of the bedrock foundation for the heralded Black Metropolis, the chapter also explores the nexus of politics and nonpolitical economic protest, along with this pivotal relationship to the economic fabric of black Chicago in business, labor, associational linkages, the professions, and the underground economy.

Llano, Samuel. Anti-flamenquismo and Mass Entertainment. Oxford University Press, 2018. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780199392469.003.0005.

Full text
Abstract:
This chapter describes how, in the lead-up to the First World War, flamenquismo became a mass phenomenon in Spain, as it pervaded most forms of public entertainment, from género chico to bullfighting. Critics in the orbit of regeneracionismo, whose call for the use of education and the arts to “regenerate” Spanish society was reinvigorated in the wake of the 1898 desastre, saw flamenquismo as a new “plague” that threatened to jeopardize their endeavors. Among them, Eugenio Noel became the most outspoken and vitriolic critic of flamenco and bullfighting. His publications and public talks sparked the outrage of stakeholders in the bullfighting and flamenco businesses, who attempted to murder him on various occasions. Noel’s writings represent a desperate attempt to “civilize” Spanish society by raising awareness about corruption and politics, but they contain serious instances of bigotry against Gypsies and flamenco that did not help to overcome stigmatizing prejudice.
