Full textBecause of the quotation at multiple locations of many financial assets, the order flows on financial markets fragment. Fragmentation means there exist two types of competition : the competition between investors, willing to trade at best prices, and the competition between exchanges willing to attract the largest number of traders. Considering two criteria of performance, liquidity and informational efficiency, this thesis try to find out if fragmentation and competition between exchanges enhance economical efficiency and whether a market structure is optimal. According to our researches, if an order-driven market undergoes the competition of a quote-driven market, the divergence of order flow from the order book to the market makers does not lower efficiency. Yet, it lowers liquidity, as adverse selection costs become higher. A field study and empirical works on french shares dually quoted on the paris bourse and on the london stock exchange, compare the liquidity of the three market structures being in competition, such as the call auction, the continuous auction and the dealership market. The parisian order-driven market is shown to be superior in many ways. It is dominant for the execution of transaction volumes on french shares and appears to be the leader market in the discovery of prices for these shares. Eventually, tests and observations show that the double quotation of french shares at the london stock exchange should be considered more as a case of market segmentation than as a case of market fragmentation

Full textThis thesis, consisting of four articles, deals with the dynamics of the diffusion of knowledge among the internal stakeholders of a French competitiveness cluster through multi-agent modeling. The first three articles are a set of theoretical reflections on inter-organizational knowledge sharing and, as an extension of this, the fourth article includes the specifics of a cluster. Article number 1 provides a dynamic extension of the impact of the absorptive capacity of Sakakibara (2003) and Egbetokun and Savin (2012) on the stock of knowledge of partner companies. Article number 2 focuses on players who try to minimize the deficit caused by a misperception of interactions of two projects in which they invest regularly. It analyzes a large number of decision makers sharing information with their closest neighbors. Article number 3 carries out an extension of the model of article number 1 based on article number 2, incorporating misperception of information exchanged between stakeholders and examines its impact on the accumulation of knowledge. The last article transposes the previous model by incorporating the notion of trust and certain specificities of French competitiveness clusters

Full textThe theorical foundations permit of the error or difficulty analysis in the use of each form of the indicative. The analysis reveals that a lot of thai learners in the secondary level have a lot of difficulties in using every verbal form, even the present tense. They know badly their temporal or aspectual senses. Such forms, they confuse frequently. For exemple they use the passe compose instead of imparfait and vice versa. Besides, they have the difficulty in discriminating the sense of the context and the sense of the verb in question which imply, in fact, the awaited form. Though in most of the cases, the context is simple and fundamental; "yesterday, tomorrow", they confuse the senses of these adverbs. They have more problems when they are in front of the more complicated context. Frequently, even the students who use correctly the awaited form, can not explain why they choose it. They quote the rules or the structures in which that form appears instead of telling its senses. The training and the methods are the principal causes; in the methods, the temporal-aspectual values of the verb in relation to the values of the context are never considered explicitly. They stress on the conjugation and the literal sense of the verb. Besides, the errors are caused by the transfer of the innate habit of the thai language. Ex. : the students generalize the present tense and the infinitive in every epoch. And very often, the students are pushed by the needs of assimilation, of invariability, generalize the forms which are studied previously in stead of the awaited form. From these remarks, the exercices of each form are established. They are based on the theorical notions, presented previously. The learners will be, firstly, sensitive to the inherent values of each form, then the effects of the sense and finally, they will be asked to apply the concepts acquired in the various situations

Full textThis book includes two parts: a theoretical one and one concerning fieldwork. In the first chapter speech act theory is examined and reassessed to serve our theoretical goal. Notions to be used in the rest of the book are here investigated. The second one consists of a theoretical consideration of allocutive forms. After proceeding to their definition, we tried to investigate their form in modern greek (terms and forms conventionaly used to address the hearer) and their function in the interaction. To respond to this second aim, we combined speech act theory and conversational analysis. The third chapter is a link between theory and application, dealing with the methodological stakes of the survey which follows. Here terms and forms of address are viewed on a double perspective: first, according to brown and gilman's macro model, where social factors such as age, sex, relative status and degree of acquaintance of speaker and hearer create a power- or a solidarity- based relationship, which determines the choice of the pronoun or term of address. On a second level, this model is completed to serve a micro analysis: pragmatic parameters (setting, speech act type and speaker's illocutionary point) are added to mark speaker's selection of terms and forms of address. In the survey, which constitutes the second part of the book, after mentioning the investigating methods and problems, some ethnological information is supplied on the athens' central market. Focusing on seller's and customer's verbal interaction, we then tried to work out what strategies a speaker follows in his choice of a given term or form of address. In the last part, the discussion, results are analysed and combined to allow a generalization concerning the strategies applied by a greek speaker when addressing the hearer. This fact, all but confirming the theoretical stakes, is the evidence for the function of terms and. .

The first part considers a comparative analysis of exchange rate systems, which are supposed intangible. The second one is referring to the possibility of each state to support a contrained exchange rate system within a dynamic framework where phenomenous of reputation and retaliation are involving

Full textIn this study, I aim, in the first place, at the theoretical reflections on the formation of the relations between language and nation, and at the construction of a means of analysis to overcome the limits of the precedent studies. I begin by defining the sociolinguistics as a study of the dynamic interaction between language, speaker, and social structure from viewpoint transdisciplinary, hermeneutic, and engaged. The reflections on the concepts allow me to avoid the conceptual confusions and to keep the coherence and the exactness of my work. The discussion on the models confirms the reasons and the significances of my choke of two cases, France and Korea. Starting from theses theoretical discussions, I suppose ten phases as a means of analysis to examine the process of formation of the relations between language and nation in the two countries. Owing to these analyses, I demonstrate the generalities and the particularities of the two cases

Full textThe "welfare-reducing growth" assumption is certainly one of the most important and difficult challenge that both policy-makers and economic analysis face today. The wide variety of theoretical and methodological approaches in this field implies that the qualitative-oriented part of this assumption remain rather unclear from both theoretical and empirical viewpoints. The purpose of this PhD-dissertation, beyond providing an original systhesis of the various strands of this field of research, is to re-construe its main directions in the context of a political economy of wealth, value(s) and well-being. The basis of our approach is a radical distinction between two analytical registers - 1) one concerning the economic value ; 2) the other focusing on the values that underlie the notion of well-being. The implications of this discussion are discussed : 1) from a theoretical point of view, in relation to the nature's value controversy in Ecological Economics ; 2) from both theoretical and methodological viewpoints in relation to the potential convergence between contemporary approaches of human well-being, with the aim of legitimizing conceptually and empirically a new kind of answer to the Easterlin paradox

Full textThe concept of social exclusion might nowadays seem ambiguous and banal, but its underlying processes affect millions of people. The majority of studies in sociology and social policy about the topic mainly analyze its material (and objective) dimension. Despite the progress and importance of these studies, there is also a symbolic (and subjective) dimension to social exclusion – a dimension which has in our opinion only been partially explored and could help to grasp the processes of exclusion from a relational point of view. Our work attempts to examine this symbolic dimension, the moral content of which suggests that exclusion can be perceived as a sign of injustice and more precisely, as a sign of non-recognition.Based on the reflections of the German philosopher Axel Honneth on the notion of recognition, and more precisely on the categories defined as “non-recognition”, we critically draw the theoretical path towards understanding social exclusion in the light of the Honnethian approach to recognition, i.e. towards an analysis of exclusion in terms of non-recognition. Our work also aims to illustrate the link between social exclusion and recognition through a field study consisting of 40 interviews carried out between June 2007 and March 2009 in Bogotá, Colombia. This will not only allow us to analyze the “operational character” of recognition, but more still, to explore to what extent our approach fosters the discovery of new understandings of the process of exclusion, without which a merely “operational” analysis would remain incomplete. The first part of this thesis presents a general overview of the concepts of exclusion and recognition according to the idea that the symbolic dimension of exclusion reveals a moral content that we aim to examine through Axel Honneth’s approach. The second part focuses on examining this moral content as well as the elements that allow an analysis of exclusion following this approach. This analysis is both theoretical and practical as shown by our field study in Bogotá. Finally, the third part uses the interviews to explore to what extent the heuristical potential of the Honnethian approach helps understanding the process of social exclusion

Full textThis thesis is focused on theorical manuscripts by the painters Henry Valensi, Charles Blanc-Gatti and Leopold Survage. Valensi and Blanc-Gatti were cofounders of the Musicalist movement, and the Cubist Leopold Survage, and were pioneers in both abstract painting and animated movies. Their contributions in the plastic revolution during the Belle Époque have been valorized only recently and some of their writings still haven’tbeen studied. This study firstly analyzes these unpublished texts, which mostly date from after World War II. Itdeals above all with the future of artistic expressions and its impact on society and relationships between art and sciences. Different correspondences between Valensi, Blanc-Gatti, Survage and other artists or specialists are also a subject of the present thesis as they give important information about common projects (theorical, artistic or exhibitions) that they had organized collectively

Full textThe approach of the web and prospective will depend on the considered framework of observation. The framed vision identifies a basis of study and assigns the limits of the system. The current interactions, in the considered framework of observation, are then significant and will direct the prospective trails. The web will be considered through three frameworks of observation : the web as closed system which represents the connected sites, the web like open system which reveals the socio-technical system related to the presence of the actors, the web considered as a complex system which answers the principles of complexity. Taking support on the system theory and using the method of the participating observation adapted to each framework of observation, the prospective tracks will differ although being complementary. The web as a closed system trends towards a structural research ; the web as an open system evolves at the rhythm of social construction ; the web as a complex system escapes the actors and presents an autonomous evolution

Full textIn my work, i state that i need to theoretically analyse the problems of spacial conception because for me, the elements of the original space play a role in my plastic creations. Space is, for me, made of both soul and bady. In my art therefore, there is on the one hand the presence of bady- of materials and objects-which provide for a visual spatialization. On the other hand, there are the problems of spiritual depth in the space of my canvases. I thus manage to extract three themes of my research: 1) the conception of the original space 2) the comparisons between the notions of space in the west and in the far east 3) the discovery of my own spacial field through zen meditation i think in conclusion, that there are the reflections between practice and theory in which i must discouver a new esthetic. This research will allow me, in light of my being an artist, to move towards a new beginning

Full textWith a plurality of discriplinary approaches, this thesis gives a unified vision of the italian industrial model. The theoretical instruments used are the same as those developed by the french regulation school and by the evolutionary theory. The thesis is divided into 3 parts. The first is about the industrial system in the 1980's and examines the restructuring process in larger companies and the performance of small and medium sized firms, especially in industrials districts. The second part outlines the state regulation in italy and showsthe particularity of the dynamics of italian government gross debt and the evolutioin of wage relations. After the analysis of the macroeconomics indicators, the third part proposes a comparison between the italian industrial system and the new emerging production principles. The conclusion summarises that the italian industrial structure is an original model with competitive trajectories of development. The weakness of the model is in the non-competitiveness of public infrastructure that causes significant external diseconomies at the company level

Full textThe object of this monograph concerning the Autogestioned Lyceum of Paris (LAP) is the practice of autogestion in the school and its pedagogical and political implication. After a description of the pedagogical principals of LAP (free attendance, collective management, collective assessment associated with personalized tutoring) and a study of the institutions’ and implications’ theoretical concepts in the theoretical framework of Institutional Analysis, a theoretical scheme is proposed in order to describe teaching relations. The concept of institutionalisation work (IW) permits us to describe the particularity of pedagogical autogestion, its differences with Institutional pedagogy and its particular conception of practice on institution as a pedagogical tool. LAP, as a autogestioned collective, applies an institutionalisation work that represents a double task: on one hand concerning the internal institutions and on the other hand concerning the institutions that flow through it. Finally, the relations between the students’ participation in institutionalisation work and the acquisition of his autonomy facing his schooling and his school work is described in a students’ monograph. On one hand, the student that wants to participate in the schools’ management faces the self-management of his schooling. On the other hand, the particularities of teaching relations and the evaluative processes that emerge from collective management influence the students’ relation with his work in the subjects studied

The study only consists in estimating specular reflexion and diffraction by wedges for perfectly conductive target. The technic consists, for a given incidence, in meshing the stationary phase zones. Physical Theory of Diffraction is then applied and, in order to improve computation convergence, limits of the integration area are suppressed. Otherwise the sharpness of the mesh and the size of integration area affect the accurary of result. Their influences were studied on canonical surfaces. The great interest of method is that it can be applied to a very general geometry

THE INTRODUCTORY QUESTION, AT THE BASIS OF ALL THE OTHER ONES, IS THAT OF THE VALIDIDY AND FRUITFULNESS OF A TRANSFER OF METHODOLOGY. TO WHAT EXTEND AND ON WHAT CONDITIONS CAN TONAL LANGUAGE BE CONSIDERED AS ANALOGOUS TO A PIECE OF LANGUAGE ? WHAT IS THE METHODOLOGICAL REACH OF SUCH NOTIONS AS "SEGMENTATION", "STRUCTURE", "RHETORIC", "STYLISTIC DEVICES", "IS-A RELATION", "MEANING", "NARRATION", ETC. IN THE ANALYSIS OF MUSICAL WORKS ? THE THREE PARTS WHICH STRUCTURE THE WHOLE TEXT - "LANGUAGE SPACE", "TONAL MUSIC", "MUSIC AND POETICS" - SHOW THAT THE ANALYSIS OF THE TONAL SYSTEM LENDS ITSELF WELL TO A STRUCTURAL APPROACH, THANKS TO A TO AND FRO MOTION BETWEEN LANGUAGE AND MUSIC - MUSICAL DISCOURSE BEING SIMILAR TO THAT DEVELOPPED BY POETRY. YET, THIS STUDY DOES'NT MERELY TRANSPOSE CONCEPTUAL TOOLS FROM THE LANGUAGE FIELD TO THAT OF MUSIC, IT UNFOLDS HOW LANGUAGE REPRESENTS AN ARCHETYPE, THE TOPOS FOR A METAPHOR, DATED IN HISTORY AND CLEARLY DEFINED IN TIME. ITS CONCLUSION LEADS TO A GENERAL REFLECTION ON SUCH NOTIONS AS ARCHETYPE OR METAPHOR. LINGUINSTICS PROVIDES A "FICTION OPERATOIRE" THAT ENABLES US TO EXPLORE THE REASONS WHY, IN A DEFINED HISTORICAL CONTEXT, MUSIC WAS THOUGHT AS A SEMBLANCE OF LANGUAGE. ON THE OPPOSITE, THE LINGUISTIC PATTERN IS INADEQUATE TO THE APPROACH OF OTHER CORPUS, THUS LEADING US TO SEACH FOR THE OTHER RHETORIC ACCORDING TO WHICH THE TWENTIETH CENTURY METALANGUAGE APPREHENDS MUSIC. IT ALSO LEADS US TO DEFINE ANOTHER METAPHOR WHERE DISCURSIVE TEMPORALITY GIVES WAY TO A SPACIAL TEMPORALITY IN MUSIC

Full textThis work aims at understanding hope’s beneficial effects in physical and sports activities. After ensuring the viability and sustainability of Snyder’s hope model (Snyder et al., 1991, 1996) through a validated measurement tool, we tried to identify how hope contributes to success in physical education at school, and hope’s beneficial effects on students’ performance and resilience during a cycle ergometer session. The experimentation results prove Snyder’s hope model reliability from an empirical viewpoint, despite the reservations about its theoretical validity. In a school context, trait hope enables to predict their cycle-end grades, through a mediation of state hope and perceived ability. This data corroborates the existence of a hierarchical model in the concept of hope. Furthermore, hope can also be associated to better performance in experimental situation, after receiving a failure feedback. By having a protective effect on the result perception, hope offers a better resilience, immediately after the feedback. Thanks to the diversified contexts and methods, our research brings light on hope’s effects and consequences in physical and sports activities, and more generally speaking, on the relevance of this yet unknown theory that should be developped and extended to other study populations and contexts

Full textSigned and spoken languages are expressed in two different modalities. The main question of the present work is to know whether this difference of modality leads to differences on structure. Particularly, we are interested in questions asked by a sign language phonology, and in the possibility to take account of the semantic dimension at a low level. I will show the inadequacy of structural equivalences postulated by classical phonological studies on sign languages, particularly the "sign = word" equivalence. These theoretical problems have implications on choices made on protocols of experimental studies. Finally, the premise of structural equivalence is kept by transcription practices of sign language corpora at all levels of analysis, and these practices don't allow us to account for the mean-form relation in sign languages

Full textIn this thesis, a complete study of the reflection of focused beams from a build- solid interface is presented. The incident beam is defined by a Gaussian velocity distribution along a plane emitter. The reflected beam is described through its pressure field in a region which is not restricted to the interface. By means of short wave asymptotic analysis, nonspecular phenomena is exhibited at any angle of incidence. In particular, for an incidence near the Rayleigh angle, the following non-specular phenomena have been observed : a distorsion of a part of the caustic beam, a lateral and axial displacements of the focal point, an asymmetric repartition of the acoustic pressure around the axis of the reflected beam, and a curve of the acoustic axis. All these phenomena have been validated by means of a cartography of the reflected beam. By comparing the non-specular phenomena of the reflection of a focused and a parallel beam, the cause of the non-specular reflection is revealed

Marked by a singular plasticity, contemporary art works extend the expressive possibilities to the point that the work can manifest itself in any form, and even completely disappear. This extreme diversity results from the adherence to a new artistic principle, the "second degree", or the self-reflexivity of the artwork, which attributes to the idea of the work, the same importance as its’ very material formulation. What became undetermined in the plastic form seems, in return, to be offset by the requirement for greater conceptual determination. We were committed, in our research, to highlight the origin of this discursive primacy in the new paradigmatic situation of visual arts. Not being limited only to the purpose of mediation and social legitimization of the art works, discursivity opens also a new creative and hermeneutic space, involving theoretical discourse as a creative act complementary to plastic form

Full textUnderstanding geology from geophysical investigation is better when information is obtained from different kinds of data. A single method may not have sufficient resolution to provide the expected information. Joint inversion is a step forward to quantitatively combine data of different nature. Joint inversion may be considered in two different ways, petrophysical or structural. We may subdivide a joint inversion into two categories, joint inversion of data function of the same physical parameter, and cooperative inversion of data of different nature such as electrical and seismic data. In this work, we propose to combine a zonal cooperative inversion scheme with a Gauss-Newton method for minimizing the cost function. The basic idea of zonal cooperative inversion is to use cooperatively fuzzy c-means (FCM) classe analysis and separate inversion algorithm. For each iteration classe analysis of separate inversion results is used to construct models composed by several classes that contain the parameter characteristics of dominant subsurface structures. These constructed models are then used in the expression of the model space a priori covariance term in a new stage of separate inversion. The resulting models are then possibly biased to a priori models which depend on the number of classes. To overcome this problem, we formulate the inverse problem using a regularization parameter selected by an adapted L-curve method to weigh the impact of the a priori model on the solution when geology cannot be described by segmented models. The advantage of such a formulation is to avoid undesirable bias towards the starting model and leads to significantly improved spatial resolution for consistent prior information. Hence, the choice of the number of classe to create the a priori model is although less important. The developed methodology is tested and validated on two synthetic models. An experimental application is performed on real data acquired as part of a research survey of the National Agency for Radioactive Waste Management (Andra) for the characterization of a site of interest. Given the results of this application, the use of a cooperative approach for the inversion of electrical and seismic data allows the reconstruction of a more robust geological model, consistent with all the data. The variations of the parameters with depth are more precisely described using this approach

Full textThe present study considers the role of interior design in health centers in a therapeutic way. It is a theoretical exploratory research. The framework within which it is performed comprises the Biopolitics of Michel Foucault, the Sense of Coherence of Aaron Antonovsky, and the Restorative Environments from Kaplan & Kaplan. Each of these approaches is to provide a better understanding of the therapeutic question in its relation to health, and to identify elements to further enrich and to give another view on the thematic issue – that is, Healing Environments. We suggest six concepts: exclusion/isolation, power, social interactions, social support, pleasure and reflection. A case study aimed at examining their validity is carried out in the Centre de réadaptation Estrie. This facility, part of the Réseau de la santé et des services sociaux du Québec, is also a designated member of Planetree, whose mission is devoted to the development of management practices respectful of the human dimension in the health care environment. The quality of the physical environment being one of the ten key components of the model promoted by this organisation, the analysis, in view of the validation or the rejection of the concepts drawn from the theoretical framework, concerns the concrete forms given to these concepts. Hence, we retain: social interactions, social support, pleasure and reflection, and reject exclusion/isolation and power. Alternative proposals for these last two concepts are submitted: limits/privacy and empowerment. The principal suggestion for future research is the development of the notion of “welcome”, where interior design plays, as such, a role in health care environments.

Full textThis thesis questions the contribution of heritage conservation to urbanism. It has been proposed that the association between heritage conservation and urbanism in their present conceptual framework, rather than being the catalyst for rethinking urban projects has perpetuated a sectoral approach and atomization of human settlement, thus entrenching the functionalist paradigm that still largely conditions contemporary planning practices, notably in Québec. Indeed, although heritage conservation has been a recurrent theme since the 1960s in the redeployment of town planning skills, several studies have underscored the mitigated results of numerous conservation attempts and also of the limited contribution made to the planning of urban projects. More specifically, in spite of the interest in heritage conservation and the potentially fertile nature of the idea of heritage generally, urbanism has not yet defined the terms of the contribution, not only from a conceptual point of view but also from a urbanistic point of view with respect to its project-based thinking (progettualità). Consequently, urbanism does not succeed in overcoming the heritage idea of the preservation register in order to fully encompass it. This thesis explains the causes of this inability from an analysis of the conditions for adopting the notion of urban heritage as advanced by Giovannoni. This fundamentally urbanistic approach puts forward a concept of urban heritage that has freed itself from the historical monument of the preservation register. Inseparable from an urbanistic project-based system, the interest for Giovannoni’s urban heritage arises from a recognition that what already exists creates a means for grasping the true personality of place and therefore offers insight for better urban design and planning. Giovannoni’s idea of urban heritage becomes the basic element of an urbanistic morphological analysis that allows for the conceptualization of the modern city as an entity marked by ruptures and discontinuities. Giovannoni exploits the differences in the personality of urban entities, such as places, neighbourhoods, etc., and visits back and forth between different scales and registers, those of forms and forces, of the existing and the hoped for, of ideas and action. Giovannoni thus goes beyond the divergence between continuity and rupture that marks, in a general way, the practices for envisioning the articulation of the new to the old. When we compare Giovannoni’s approach to the different views that have impacted modern urbanism, we find that his practices for using what already exists is the condition for the realization of urban heritage promises. Otherwise, the association of heritage conservation and urbanism culminates in the assimilation of urban heritage to the historical monument of architecture, and therefore leads to equating the urban project to the conservation project.
