Abstract:
Using the cement paste fluidity experiment, this paper carried out a comprehensive research on the effect of the binary compound water reducer of polycarboxylate based water reducer (PC) and lignosulphate based water reducer (LS). The results show that for the use of single water reducer, the plasticizing ability of PC was much better than that of LS. In PC, the plasticizing ability of polyether type polycarboxylate based water reducer (POLYETHER) was slightly higher than that of polyester type polycarboxylate based water reducer (POLYESTER); in LS, sodium lignosulphate based water reducer (SLS) was slightly higher than calcium lignosulphate based water reducer (CLS). For the use of compound water reducer, the compounding effect of PC with LS was good, and the compounding proportion had a significant influence on the compounding effect, the more the proportion of PC in the compound water reducer, the better the compounding effect. Regarding the compounding effect, POLYESTER was significantly better than POLYETHER, SLS slightly better than CLS; To explore the working mechanism of the compound water reducer, the adsorption amount of each component water reducer in the binary compound water reducer on the cement particles surface was measured respectively. The results of adsorption amount show that for the use of single water reducer, the adsorption amount of CLS is greater than that of POLYETHER under the same conditions. The adsorption amount of CLS in the use of compound water reducer was less than that in the use of single water reducer, while the adsorption amount of POLYETHER in the use of compound water reducer was more than that in the use of single water reducer.

Abstract:
As a precision gear reducer, the RV reducer has a low-transmission backlash (very high assembly accuracy). Therefore, the selective assembly method is the only assembly method which can guarantee the assembly precision of the RV reducer. However, the RV reducer has a complex structure; it consists of a high number of parts whose machining tolerance cannot be very low. Furthermore, there are numerous parts, the tolerances of which influence the RV reducer transmission backlash. Therefore, it is difficult to achieve high assembly accuracy by using the traditional selective assembly method. In this paper, a method of selective assembly is proposed to make the backlash of the RV reducer meet the requirements through the analysis of the characteristics of the RV reducer structure, the processing and assembly process of the parts, and the influence of manufacturing errors on the backlash. Then, a mathematical model was established for the RV reducer assembly issue. And a matching algorithm based on a genetic algorithm was developed. Finally, the algorithm was applied to the selective assembly of the RV reducer for verifying the feasibility and validity of the proposed matching method.

Abstract:
This study presents a theoretical basis for and outlines the method of finding the Lie point symmetries of systems of partial differential equations. It seeks to determine which of five computer algebra packages is best at finding these symmetries. The chosen packages are LIEPDE and DIMSYM for REDUCE, LIE and BIGLIE for MUMATH, DESOLV for MAPLE, and MATHLIE for MATHEMATICA. This work concludes that while all of the computer packages are useful, DESOLV appears to be the most successful system at determining the complete set of Lie symmetries. Also, the study describes REDUCEVAR, a new package for MAPLE, that reduces the number of independent variables in systems of partial differential equations, using particular Lie point symmetries. It outlines the results of some testing carried out on this package. It concludes that REDUCEVAR is a very useful tool in performing the reduction of independent variables according to Lie's theory and is highly accurate in identifying cases where the symmetries are not suitable for finding S/G equations.

Abstract:
The purpose of this bachelor thesis was to find a concept which reduces the fuel consumption of propeller powered airplanes with piston engines that are meant for skydiving. The concept resulted in a hybrid solution in which an electric motor and a piston engine power the same propeller, and where the piston engine power the electric motor as a generator during the aircraft’s decent. The theoretically fuel consumption was reduced, although the difference was so small it is questionable whether or not it is a profitable solution with current technology.

Full text
Abstract:

Abstract:
In newer modern cars the steeringsystem is equipped with a servo that enhances the driver's input from the steering wheel down to the wheels. This is referred to as power-assisted steering. The reason why a modern car with the engine turned off or an older car with a lack of power-assisted steering, is so troublesome to maneuver is that the driver must overcome the friction that occurs between the tires and the surface underneath the tires which prevents the tires from rotating. A servo has been connected to the vehicle's steering system and assists the driver to overcome these forces and to create a more stable handling and an enhanced operation at a lower speed. Servos has in other words reduced the torque required at the steering wheel to rotate the tires. Although there is a reduced torque in the steering wheel provided by the servo, it´s for many individuals still not sufficiently reduced. Individuals with reduced or limited mobility in their hands or arms may experience difficulty in operating the steering wheel of a car. Especially challenging is it if the person obtains a car with an installed hand control for operating the acceleration and braking, leaving as the only alternative, to maneuver the steering wheel by one hand. By reducing the required torque, or effort, needed in the steering wheel, further it’s made possible for these people to independently use a car without any setbacks. Is it possible to reduce the needed effort at the steering wheel in all cars on the commercial market? The current commercial market consists, in majority, of the electric power-assisted steering systems(EPAS) and hydraulic power-assisted steering systems(HPAS). These two types of systems have been carefully studied and the challenges of reducing the needed effort has been analyzed. The studies and analyzes has been further developed to a result where the assisted steering systems, on the majority of the commercial market cars, can obtain a reduced effort at the steering wheel. How does the reduced effort procedure work? After identifying a torsion bar as the common denominator for the EPAS and HPAS systems the torsion bar could be studied further in its mechanical properties. The result of these studies gave support to theories of being able to machine the torsion bar in order to reduce the torque at the wheel. As a result of the driver's steering wheel movements a twist on the upper part of the torsion bar will accrue when the lower portion of the torsion bar, at first held stationary due to the friction between the tires and the vehicles underneath surface where it creates a displacement of the rods top end and bottom end. The displacement is entirely elastic and the factor that determines the amount of torque the servo will assist with. How the torsion bar interacts with in the different systems varies. In the EPAS systems the torsion bars displacement is interpreted by software and then translated to a control signal leading to an electrical motor. In HPAS systems however, the torsion bar is a major component in a hydraulic valve determining the systems hydraulic flow. By mechanically machining the torsion bar, it reduce its rotational resistance and the servo will with less effort be activated by the driver's steering wheel movements. Is intervention to weaken the torsion bar safe? The procedure is risky and complex but with the knowledge from this report, the help of the tools I developed, and the equipment and scientific results presented, it can be implemented with the OEMs safety margins still intact.

Abstract:

The work aims to clarify what nautical officers onboard in today's merchant can do to help reduce bunker consumption during the voyage? The question we have asked ourselves during the autumn term in 2008 much was said about the premium bunker prices, and how the future could affect our daily lives as nautical officer. We felt here that the school had relatively little knowledge of the subject and therefore felt that it would be interesting to identify how it really looks like onboard the ships today. To collect information we contacted 7 Swedish companies that operate with different types of vessels, in order to get a broad picture of the whole industry. For shipping companies we asked questions about how actively they were working on the issue and what methods they used. We found that the owners worked with the issue but that it so far was a little on the go. All but one company in the survey provided the vessels are instructed to run bunker efficiently.

Full text
Abstract:
In the research program “Gröna Bilen 2”, one of the projects aims towards decreasing the environmental impact caused by vehicle brakes. Some of the goals for the project are to reduce particle emissions caused by the brake system by 50% and to reduce the friction between brake pads and brake disc. On most modern passenger cars, the brake pads and brake disc are always in contact, even when the brakes are not applied, this causes the brakes to wear and increases the friction. By designing brakes with retracting brake calliper pistons this problem can be solved. If a clearance is introduced between the brake pads and the brake disc it’s important that it doesn’t affect the brake performance of the car, nor can the brake feel of the pedal be affected negatively. To create a model of the influence of the clearance on the behaviour of the pedal, a brake system from a Saab 9-3 was studied. The behaviour of the forces and displacements in every part of the system was modelled with mathematical expressions on the interval from the drivers application of force on the pedal until the brake pads made contact with brake disc. An already existing solution of the problem with excessive pedal travel caused by the clearance between the brake pads and the brake disc where studied, a Quick take-up master cylinder. The Quick take-up master cylinder was also modelled with mathematical expressions, and the complete system was implemented in Simulink model. When there is no clearance between the brake pads and the brake disc, the necessary pedal travel before the pads starts to press against the disc is 20 millimetres. This is caused by components in the system that needs to move a short distance before their valves is closed and a pressure can start to build in the system. With a clearance of 0,1 millimetres on each side of the brake disc, the necessary pedal travel increases to 37 millimetres. With a Quick take-up master cylinder the pedal travel can be decreased to 21 millimetres. The force necessary to press the pedal down is not affected by the size of the clearance. If the brake callipers are designed with retracting calliper pistons the brake system needs to be modified, for example with a Quick take-up master cylinder.

Abstract:
Abstract There are many hard verification problems that are currently only solvable by applying several verifiers that are based on complementing technologies. Conditional model checking (CMC) is a successful solution for cooperation between verification tools. In CMC, the first verifier outputs a condition describing the state space that it successfully verified. The second verifier uses the condition to focus its verification on the unverified state space. To use arbitrary second verifiers, we recently proposed a reducer-based approach. One can use the reducer-based approach to construct a conditional verifier from a reducer and a (non-conditional) verifier: the reducer translates the condition into a residual program that describes the unverified state space and the verifier can be any off-the-shelf verifier (that does not need to understand conditions). Until now, only one reducer was available. But for a systematic investigation of the reducer concept, we need several reducers. To fill this gap, we developed FRed, a Framework for exploring different REDucers. Given an existing reducer, FRed allows us to derive various new reducers, which differ in their trade-off between size and precision of the residual program. For our experiments, we derived seven different reducers. Our evaluation on the largest and most diverse public collection of verification problems shows that we need all seven reducers to solve hard verification tasks that were not solvable before with the considered verifiers.

Abstract:
Abstract A new-style transmission pattern — two stage three-ring gear reducer (TRGR), which eccentric phase difference between middle ring plate and side ring plates is 180° and mass of middle ring plate is twice of that of side ring plate, is put forward in this paper. Analysis of internal gear ring plate inertial force and inertial torque and primary manufacturing and assembling errors that affect on load distribution between ring plates are presented. A new-style load equilibrating mechanism — elastic load equilibrating metal ring (ELEMR) which are placed between bearing outer ring and bearing seat of first input shaft and secondary output shaft is put forward. Experimental studies are performed on load equilibrating and vibrating reducing of original reducer without ELEMR and modified reducer with ELEMR. The experimental result indicates that it’s evident in load equilibrating and vibration reducing effectiveness. Load equilibrating non-uniform coefficient (LDNC) Kp changes form 1.314 of original reducer to 1.073 of modified reducer. Under rated torque and rated speed, radial vibration acceleration of secondary output shaft bearing seat changes from 26.6m/s2 of original reducer to 3.35m/s2 of modified reducer, radial vibration velocity of secondary output-shaft bearing seat change from 9.40mm/s of original reducer to 1.19mm/s of modified reducer.

Abstract:
Compared with other speed reducers, the two-stage cycloidal planetary one also known as RV reducer has higher precision, higher mechanical efficiency, higher loading capacity as well as long service life. These characteristics make it attractive for industrial applications, especially for robotics applications and machine tools, where high precision and large torque transmission are required. The traditional RV reducer uses cycloidal drive which is comprised of the cycloidal wheel and the pins. It has some disadvantages in the pin design, because of small clearance between the pin and the cycloidal wheel, the collision between the pin and the cycloidal wheel may lead to unstable stress in the key parts and output velocity fluctuation. This paper presents an innovative cycloidal planetary reducer using internal meshing principle instead of external meshing between cycloidal wheel and pins in traditional RV reducer. In the new design of the reducer, the internal teeth with cycloidal profile are processed inside the reducer housing, meshing with two pin holders which are placed at the inner side of the cycloidal teeth to achieve transmission. The pin holder is a new integral structure of pins integrated on a round plate. Then a comparison study is conducted through establishment of system dynamics analysis. The transmission characteristics and meshing force of both the new type of reducer and the traditional RV reducer are analyzed under the same condition of reduction ratio. The results show the new reducer improves on these shortcomings, its transmission performance is competitive as compared to traditional RV reducer. What’s even better is that its output speed is more stable, and the contact force between the pin position on the pin holder and the internal cycloidal teeth inside the reducer housing is smaller, as well as the contact frequency is obviously decreased.

In ASME Turbo Expo 2020: Turbomachinery Technical Conference and Exposition. American Society of Mechanical Engineers, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.1115/gt2020-14001.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract The tubed vortex reducer is a new structure of aero-engine, which is widely used in advanced large bypass ratio high performance turbofan engines. It is usually installed between the rear two-stage discs of the high-pressure compressor, and reduces the generation of free vortex by restricting the flow path of the cooling airflow, thereby reducing the pressure loss of the cooling airflow and improving the engine efficiency. In this paper, vibration analysis of tubed vortex reducer is carried out by experiments and numerical simulations. Using the finite element method, the natural vibration characteristics of the vortex reducer are calculated with ANSYS. The sensitivity analysis of the impact of design parameters on the vibration characteristics is carried out. In addition, the vibration test bench of the vortex reducer is set up, and the vibration test of the vortex reducer is conducted by means of frequency sweeping and hammer hitting respectively. The experimental results satisfactorily reproduce the simulation results. Then the theoretical model of dry friction damping of vortex reducer is established. Based on the dynamic model of the complex contact system composed of vortex reducer and damping sleeve, the relationship between energy dissipation in different directions is derived. And a method evaluating the performance of vibration reduction is presented for calculating its equivalent damping ratio. Finally, the influence of the key design parameters and different installation methods on the damping ratio is analyzed. Overall, this work can provide reference for vibration reduction design and optimization of vortex reducer.

Full text
Abstract:
Taking the exact demands of chemical additive components added in oil products into account, it is necessary to prepare a drag reducer both with desirable functions and pure composition for oil products differing from that for crude oil. However, that is evidently difficult. This article presents the research and application of a newly-developed drag reducer for oil products, which is innocuous to oil products and easy to handle in its applications. The preparation of the drag reducer was based upon a series of integrative techniques involving adsorbent purification of monomers, implementation of bulk polymerization at low temperatures and ultramicro grinding of polyalphaolefins at normal temperatures. Simultaneously, the drag reducer can be manufactured in different scales by purpose-made equipment system with a little manual operation on safe, reliable, efficient and convenient base. The application test of the drag reducer was conducted successfully and has been commercially applied in Lanzhou-Chengdu-Chongqing Oil Products Pipeline. The application results for the pipeline showed that this drag reducer, as a feasible and available technical method, was not only positively helpful to increase the flow rate of Lanzhou-Chengdu-Chongqing Oil Products Pipeline, but also of great significance for other oil products pipelines in throughput increase and energy saving.
