Abstract:
The adsorption characteristics of tetracycline by 2 soils including a clay-rich soil (cinnamon soil) and an iron oxide-rich soil (red soil) were investigated as a function of soil organic matter (SOM). SOM is the main adsorbent for tetracycline in the soil environment. The results indicated that the adsorption kinetics of tetracycline by the different soils with or without organic matter was described by the Elovich equation and the exponent equation. The adsorption of tetracycline on red soil was quite rapid and equilibrium could be reached after 5 h. In contrast, the concentration of tetracycline in cinnamon soil reached equilibrium after 11 h. The difference in equilibrium time in cinnamon soil and red soil was caused by their dominant components for adsorption, including clays, organic matter, and Al/Fe hydrous oxides. It took longer for the penetration of tetracycline into the interlayers between clays and organic matter in cinnamon soil, but tetracycline needed less time for adsorption through surface complexation on oxide surfaces of red soil. Removing SOM from soil markedly shortened the equilibrium time (7 h) of adsorption and reduced the equilibrium concentration (Cs) in cinnamon soil, but not in red soil, because of different dominant components for adsorption in the 2 natural soils. In natural and SOM-free soils, >98% of tetracycline in solution could be sorbed. The adsorption of tetracycline on natural and SOM-free soils was well described by Freundlich adsorption isotherms. Batch adsorption experiments showed that the adsorption of tetracycline on natural red soil was stronger than that on natural cinnamon soil. Adsorption capacity (KF) decreased with an increase in SOM removed from soil, which is attributed to the effect of tetracycline sorbed by SOM in different soils. However, SOM affected the adsorption intensity (n) of different soils diversely; there was a decrease for red soil and an increase for cinnamon soil. In particular, red soil with high Al/Fe hydrous oxides had higher adsorption affinities than cinnamon soil.

Abstract:
Application of self-organizing mapping as anemia detection using an image of red blood cellsBackground: Anemia is a nutritional problem characterized by changes in blood cell size, especially in microcytic or macrocytic anemia. Iron deficiency anemia is included in hypochromic microcytic anemia because it has a smaller than normal size red blood cell and has a lower than normal hemoglobin (Hb) arising from reduced supply of iron for erythropoiesis (cell maturation process red blood). Analysis based on red blood cell image is a tool to detect anemia using technology applications. Self-organizing mapping (SOM) is one of the artificial neural networks by dividing the input pattern into several groups, so the network output is in the form of groups that are most similar to the input. Objective: To measure the accuracy of SOM for detecting the size of red blood cells in anemia condition. Methods: The type of research was an observational laboratory. The study was conducted at the Electrobiomedical Laboratory of Universitas Respati Yogyakarta from January to August 2018. The sample consisted of anemia and non-anemia red blood cells which had been tested in a laboratory of 92 blood preparations. Stage of measuring red blood cells consisted of pre-processing (cropping, gray scaling, contrast enhancement, and screening), segmentation, feature extraction, and image identification with SOM. The image identification results were concluded by calculating the accuracy of the anemia detection system based on laboratory examination results. Results: The characteristic that distinguishes anemia and non-anemia was in the size of red blood cells. Anemic red blood cells had different pixel intensities than non-anemic red blood cells. The image of non-anemia red blood cells had a full round or oval image. From as many as 92 detections of blood images, five blood images were not by the target results of laboratory tests. The accuracy achieved by the system was 94.57%.Conclusions: The accuracy value of anemia detection using SOM can be used to identify the type of anemia based on red blood cell size.

Abstract:
Red bare soil is a kind of soil remained on plateau from ancient ages. Researchs toward better understanding of the relationship between stability of surface aggregate and SOM (Soil Organic Matter) based on 14 typical samples indicate that red bare soil clay (<0.002mm) contents between 12.18% and 64.02% which belongs to poor cultivation performance soil. The number of macro-soil aggregates after dry sieving were far more than the number after wet sieving. Water-stable aggregate content (WSAC) informed the feature of red bare soil. The WSAC were between 28.77% ~ 52.87% at the size >0.25mm and the aggregates destruction rate (PAD0.25) were 34.28% to 68.10%, mean weight diameter (MWD) were at the size of 0.53 to 1mm, geometric mean diameter (GMD) were between 0.37 and 0.58mm, fractal dimension (FD) were between 2.79 and 2.92. The 5 index above indicated the structural stability, anti erodibility and physical property were both poor when compared with other typical soil samples in southwest karst area of China. The research also indicated that soil organic matter (SOM) and WSAC has more effect than mechanical aggregate. SOM has significant positive correlation with MWD and GMD, and significant negative correlation with PAD0.25 and FD. Lack of SOM and exposed led to soil structure stability deterioration. These can be the reason why soil erosion seriously and can’t grow vegetation in red bare soil area.

Abstract:
Using blanket crops of ryegrass and under-seeded barley (with red clover) super-imposed on standard erosion plots just coming out of potatoes, this study assessed the influence of preceding soil-and-crop management treatments viz., straw mulch, compost and liquid pig manure (LPM) (antecedent input variables) on crop yield, soil physical properties and erosion amounts (subsequent response variables). There were no significant carry-over effects on erosion amounts, and effects on yield were limited to red clover. However, soil properties (reflecting compactability, structure and soil water retention) were affected throughout - showing general improvements of up to 46%. Thus, soil water content (SWC) was 9.4% greater with compost amendment than it was for the control. SWC with compost was also greater than it was with straw mulch by 7.9%. Soil organic matter (SOM) showed a 13% increase with compost amendment relative to the control. SOM also showed a 5% increase with compost relative to straw mulch. Compost uniquely gave yield increases in red clover, double that of the control, while LPM gave unique increases in hydraulic conductivity and SOM under red clover to the extent of 60 and 24% (respectively) relative to the control. Key words: Soil physical properties, soil erosion, organic amendments, potatoes, barley, red clover

Abstract:

Abstract:
Problematization: Pilot projects are highlighted as a useful tool in risk management. However, because there has been a perception that the data produced by them does not have academic validity and that there is a tendency for bias among publishers of scientific articles, the current research on pilot projects is limited. Several researchers believe that the current knowledge situation is not sufficient. Purpose: The purpose of the study is to map out a pilot project in its context, the main project, to understand how it is used as a risk management tool on the basis of conditions, preparation and implementation. Method: A case study has been made through a qualitative strategy, abductive approach and an iterative process. Based on an exploratory approach, the study has mapped the case company through five semi-structured interviews and document studies, to achieve the purpose of the study. Conclusion: The study's results show that the case company's choice of method for designing a pilot project works well by meeting the critical success factors for projects and based on the conditions they had. However, the method is not flawless or universal, it is adapted for risks that cannot be avoided and must be managed and accepted. We also propose that when using pilot projects it should be integrated into the main project's risk management process. Further expansion of the current theory for pilot projects is still necessary.

Abstract:
Cortical plasticity is one of the main features that enable our capability to learn and adapt in our environment. Indeed, the cerebral cortex has the ability to self-organize itself through two distinct forms of plasticity: the structural plasticity and the synaptic plasticity. These mechanisms are very likely at the basis of an extremely interesting characteristic of the human brain development: the multimodal association. The brain uses spatio-temporal correlations between several modalities to structure the data and create sense from observations. Moreover, biological observations show that one modality can activate the internal representation of another modality when both are correlated. To model such a behavior, Edelman and Damasio proposed respectively the Reentry and the Convergence Divergence Zone frameworks where bi-directional neural communications can lead to both multimodal fusion (convergence) and inter-modal activation (divergence). Nevertheless, these frameworks do not provide a computational model at the neuron level, and only few works tackle this issue of bio-inspired multimodal association which is yet necessary for a complete representation of the environment especially when targeting autonomous and embedded intelligent systems. In this doctoral project, we propose to pursue the exploration of brain-inspired computational models of self-organization for multimodal unsupervised learning in neuromorphic systems. These neuromorphic architectures get their energy-efficient from the bio-inspired models they support, and for that reason we only consider in our work learning rules based on local and distributed processing

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Becoming business-like is a phenomenon that is gaining more and more attention in the non-profit sector. One aspect within this phenomenon is professionalization; which implies that there are an increased number of professional employees, higher demands on volunteers, and that there is a perception that experts should be in charge. This has influenced the governance of non-profit organizations to become more business-like through greater formalities, increased competence and education. At the same time, these organizations are expected to be driven primarily by volunteers, which limits the possibilities for formal control. The field of research has found that professionalization is a widespread phenomenon, but has not considered what happens to business-like organizational ideas when they travel within the organization. This study contributes to the field of research by increasing the understanding of how professionalization manifests itself in terms of management at different organizational levels, as well as how this affects the non-profit identity. Following an in-depth qualitative case study of the Swedish Red Cross, this study concludes that professionalization is primarily expressed in management through a strong focus on professional skills and increased administrative requirements, and that it appears to be an influential aspect of two different organizational identities. This is based on 13 interviews with people at three different organizational levels, seven participatory observations at the second-hand shop Kupan, as well as analysis of externally and internally produced documentation. By using translation theory, the study shows that professional ideas undergo editing and translation when they travel within the organization. Thus, the study's conclusions also indicate that professionalization decreases at lower levels. Nevertheless, the perception of two different organizational identities remains a consequence of decoupling; a strategy to meet the environment's expectations of being both a professional and non-profit organization. This creates a distance between the organizational levels and reduces the individuals sense of belonging. Furthermore, this study shows that further research is needed examining what happens to ideas about professionalization when they travel within organizations, to truly understand the phenomenon.

Abstract:

The paper contains comment, clarification and criticism, even constructive criticism, of some theses that have been put forward by Laurence Bonjour in his In Defense of Pure Reason.

It presents a concept of experience that deals with the relation between cognizer and object of experience that has a great similarity to that of Bonjour. Through analysis it is shown that the concept of a priori entails that Bonjour has two concepts of a priori, a narrow and a broad one. The narrow one is, in my own words: According to moderate rationalism a proposition p is a priori justified if and only if you apprehend that p must be true in every possible world. This doesn’t mean that Bonjour doesn’t believe in an epistemological, metaphysical and semantic realm. The broad one does not mention anything about possible worlds.

Casullo in his A priori justification rejects Bonjour’s argument against Quine’s coherentism. A defense is put forward with the concept ‘an ideal of science for apparent rational insights’. The concept of axiomatic system and foundationalism is used. If we assume that the colour proposition ‘nothing can be red all over and green all over at the same time’ has the meaning that we, in this very moment, are representing a property in the world, thus we have an argument of superposition for the correctness of the proposition. The ground for this argumentation relies on the identification of colours with superposing electromagnetic waves.

Abstract

Purpose/Aim: This essay deals with The Swedish Red Cross Society and their work concerning strategical information and communication about HIV and AIDS in the Swedish context. In a broader sense the relation between the global and the local will be investigated and a discussion about what it means to work in an organization operating on a global arena will be held.

Material/Method: This essay is based on relevant theories about culture and health communication which I have studied, selected and put together, with purpose to analyse The Swedish Red Cross Society and their informational work with HIV and AIDS- prevention. Furthermore I have interviewed four of the organizations co- workers to collect data about their experiences in working in the Red Cross organization with this specific mission. Moreover I and my colleague Hillevi Good attended at seminars and lectures to observe activities held by the organization and to get inside information about what people working with HIV and AIDS are discussing and considering as critical issues. The study holds a qualitative approach focusing on understanding this typical case rather then generalizing facts in a larger sense.

Main results: The Swedish National Society of The Red Cross has a difficult mission in their work to inform the public about HIV and AIDS, although it is the perfect organization when it comes to communication due to their well-known profile and a huge geographical spread. Foremost this is due to the fact that the problem in Sweden concerns attitudes rather than medical supplies, access to information and other more practical issues.

The Swedish citizen is individualistic and the HIV- problem does not exist in his/hers reality in the same way as in a high- endemic country, a fact that complicates information and communication. The organization is well aware of the situation and has a good informational approach with networking and education as examples among others, but this is not enough. Changing behaviour and attitudes takes a long time and a lot of resources that does not exist because of HIV and AIDS low priority in Sweden. Although we have an envied situation when it comes to the number of HIV- positive the situation is critical when it comes to knowledge and empathy among the population.

Abstract:
Dr. Eleine Mad is Madeleine Jacobsson's spokesperson for the scientific and paranormal discoveries that arise in her worlds. She describes content, tecniques and aesthetics based on a categorization system where art is divided into different types of components and then decoded as they go. To understand the intuition's involvement in the work process, it is transformed into three separate roles by a Seeker, Collector and a Myntare(In swedish language the one who is a "myntare" -is verbally declaring a concept or term). With these roles I try to describe in what ways intuition is beneficial or devastating to the artistic work. The story of M is about a frog-like character, Delop, who leaves the home planet to seek out other worlds. In her search, Delop finds a world whose views and lifestyles differ from her experiences of "reality" as she learned to survive in it.
