Abstract:

The Atlantis II Deep is a location of modern submarine hydrothermal activity along the slowly spreading Red Sea rift axis. Venting of high-temperature hydrothermal fluids, similar to those associated with black smokers, takes place in a brine pool and has led to the accumulation of 90 Mt (dry, salt free) of stratiform, metalliferous sediment. The conditions of mineralization are unique in the modern oceans, but have been widely suggested as a possible analog of some important ancient stratiform base metal ore deposits. This study shows that many of the proposed genetic models for these ancient deposits may be highly simplified and do not take into account rapid diagenetic transformations, widespread non-equilibrium processes, and many other aspects of metal deposition. Sediment cores of the Atlantis II muds were last studied more than 30 years ago. High-resolution sampling and careful re-examination of the mineralogy and geochemistry of the sediments, using modern analytical techniques has significantly improved the understanding of the different processes responsible for the formation of the finely layered metallifeous sediments. The geochemistry of the individual layers is controlled by highly variable detrital, hydrogenic and hydrothermal input. Primary depositional pathways from the brine pool are the main control on basin-wide metal distribution (e.g., increasing Cu/Zn away from the vents) including variable enrichment in trace metals via scavenging from the brine pool and from the enriched pore waters. Cu and Zn have been deposited not only as sulfides but also with poorly crystalline Si-Fe-(oxy)hydroxides. A significant proportion of the original non-sulfide Cu and Zn are diagenetically transformed into sulfides, but also carbonates and clays, in large part reflecting sulfide deficient pore waters. Negative δ34S values, previously unrecognized in the sulfide- and metal-rich units, indicate a source of bacteriogenic sulfide. Syn-diagenetic processes also appear to have been responsible for the sharp laminations in the sediments, as well as distinctive zoning of carbonate and clay minerals around the vent source. The early diagenetic transformations observed in the Atlantis II Deep may not be preserved in the ancient rock record but nevertheless have important implications for metal deposition in some of the world’s largest and richest base metal ore deposits.

Abstract:

The photosynthetic process has the unique ability to capture energy from sunlight and accumulate that energy in sugars and starch. This thesis deals with the light driven part of photosynthesis. The aim has been to investigate how the light-absorbing protein complexes Photosystem I (PS I) and Photosystem II (PS II), react upon illumination of light with lower energy (far-red light; 700-850 nm) than the absorption peak at respective primary donor, P700 and P680. The results were unexpected. At 295 K, we showed that both PS I and PS II were able to perform photochemistry with light up to 130 nm above its respective primary donor absorption maxima. As such, it was found that the primary donors’ action spectra extended approximately 80 nm further out into the red-region of the spectrum than previously reported. The ability to perform photochemistry with far-red light was conserved at cryogenic temperatures (< 77 K) in both photosystems. By performing EPR measurements on various photosystem preparations, under different illumination conditions the origin of the effect was localized to their respective reaction center. It is also likely that underlying mechanism is analogous for PS I and PS II, given the similarities in spatial coordination of the reaction center pigments. For PS II, the results obtained allowed us to suggest a model involving a previously unknown electron transfer pathway. This model is based upon the conclusion that the primary cation from primary charge separation induced by far-red light resides primarily on ChlD1 in P680. This is in contrast to the cation being located on PD1, as has been suggested as for visible light illumination. The property to drive photochemistry with far-red wavelengths implies a hither to unknown absorption band, probably originating from the pigments that compose P700 and P680. The results presented here might clarify how the pigments inside P680 are coupled and also how the complex charge separation processes within the first picoseconds that initiate photosynthetic reactions occur.

A influência da variação do pH no processo de adsorção foi analisada, encontrando-se o pH 7, dentre os valores estudados, como o ideal para a adsorção. Também foram realizados testes de adsorção com variação da concentração inicial de Nr2+ e Zn2+, em pH 5-5,5; a partir dos quais foram elaboradas isotermas de adsorção ajustadas pelos modelos de Freundlich e Langmuir. Como resultado, percebeu-se que a lama vermelha é um adsorvente efetivo de Nr2+ e Zn2+, sendo a lama ativada termicamente a que apresentou maior capacidade de adsorção para ambos os metais, tendo sido encontrados os valores de 1,86 mmol/g para o Nr2+ e 1,43 mmol/g para o Zn2+. Além disso, o tempo de equlíbrio de sete horas foi encontrado e a cinética da reação foi estudada por meio dos modelos de pseudo-primeira ordem, pseudo-segunda ordem, Elovich e difusão intrapartículas, em pH 5-5,5. Concluiu-se que a reação de adsorção seguiu o modelo sde pseudo-segunda ordem. Abstract:

The object of the dissertation covers World War II refugee in Lithuania, their coming, staying and leaving Lithuania in 1939 – 1940. The first chapter of dissertation discusses similarities and differences of terms foreigner and refugee according to domestic legislation. Furthermore, the peculiarities of foreigners in pre war Lithuania and World War II refugees are analyzed and the features of refugee integration are depicted. The following aspects have been under discussion as well: the circumstances of war refugee legislation, the situation of Lithuanian legislation according to international conventions. The second chapter analyses the life of Polish internees in Lithuania. Organizational work of establishing internee camps, the changes of camps’ network and its liquidation are discussed there. Separate subchapters analyze the subordination of internee soldiers to army units, the everyday life of internees in camps as well as internees repatriation to the territories occupied by Soviet Union and Germany. The third chapter concentrates on the civil refugees. The first subchapter analyses the aspects of refugee administration in Lithuania by Lithuanian Red Cross and Commissariat for refugee affairs. Šiandien tyrinėtojams prieinama istoriografija tik epizodiškai aprašo Antrojo pasaulinio karo pabėgėlių buvimo Lietuvoje raidą, jų santykius su Lietuvos administracija, vietos gyventojais. Disertacijos tyrimo objektas: Antrojo pasaulinio karo pabėgėliai Lietuvoje, jų patekimo, buvimo ir išvykimo iš Lietuvos Respublikos 1939–1940 m. raida. Pirmoji darbo dalis skirta pristatyti svetimšalių ir karo pabėgėlių sąvokų panašumams ir skirtumams remiantis Lietuvos teisiniais aktais aptarti. Antroji dalis skirta internuotiesiems Lenkijos kariams. Joje aptariama Lenkijos karių internavimas, internuotųjų stovyklų steigimas, stovyklų tinklo kaita bei jų likvidavimas. Atskiruose skyriuose nagrinėta internuotų karių gyvenimo stovyklose kasdienybė, karių repatriacija į Sovietų Sąjungos ir Vokietijos užimtas teritorijas bei internuotųjų karių perėmimas iš sovietų pusės 1940 m. vasarą. Abstract:

With the goal of studying ML along the RGB, mid-IR observations of a carefully selected sample of 17 Galactic globular clusters (GGCs) with different metallicity and horizontal branch (HB) morphology have been secured with IRAC on board Spitzer: a global sample counting about 8000 giant has been obtained. Suitable complementary photometry in the optical and near-IR has been also secured in order to properly characterize the stellar counterparts to the Spitzer sources and their photospheric parameters. Stars with color (i.e. dust) excess have been identified, their likely circumstellar emission quantified and modelled, and empirical estimates of mass loss rates and timescales obtained. We find that mass loss rates increases with increasing stellar luminosity and decreasing metallicity. For a given luminosity, we find that ML rates are systematically higher than the prediction by extrapolating the Reimers law. CMDs constructed from ground based near-IR and IRAC bands show that at a given luminosity some stars have dusty envelopes and others do not. From this, we deduce that the mass loss is episodic and is ``on'' for some fraction of the time. The total mass lost on the RGB can be easily computed by multiplying ML rates by the ML timescales and integrating over the evolutionary timescale. The average total mass lost moderately increases with increasing metallicity, and for a given metallicity is systematically higher in clusters with extended blue HB.

La misión de salud fue llamada Barrio Adentro dirigida inicialmente a la atención primaria, y gracias a la aceptación de la población se volvería permanente, constituyéndose en el eje articulador de la política de salud, lo que llevó a modificaciones en las estructuras burocráticas-administrativas. Vistos los resultados positivos de Barrio Adentro I y para institucionalizar esa política surgió la Fundación Barrio Adentro como respuesta para agilizar la construcción del Sistema Público de Salud. A pesar del avance en la ampliación del segundo nivel de atención, no se alcanzaron las metas propuestas. En este sentido, la caracterización de cómo fueron planificadas las acciones ayudó a comprender sus resultados. El objetivo general del estudio fue describir el proceso de planificación de Barrio Adentro II durante el período 2005-2006. La estrategia de investigación escogida fue el estudio de caso único. Las prácticas de planificación y el análisis contextual de la situación político-institucional fueron abordadas mediante las contribuciones teóricas de Matus. Se abordó la planificación como trabajo que organiza otros trabajos según Mendes-Gonçalves y Schraiber. Tales aportes orientaron la elaboración del plan de análisis que norteó la recolección, procesamiento y análisis de datos en su fase documental y de campo, aplicándose entrevistas semiestructuradas al equipo dirigente de Barrio Adentro II. El proyecto de gobierno y la gobernabilidad fueron los vértices de mayor robustez, aún cuando en el primero se observaron lagunas en la existencia de documentos. En el segundo se observó que existía una propuesta con poder concentrado, con apoyo mayoritario en el ámbito legislativo y de los Comités de Salud, y con rechazo de la Federación Médica Venezolana. Los mayores obstáculos vinieron de las tensiones entre el Ministerio de Salud, la Misión Médica Cubana y los técnicos del Ministerio de Hábitat y Vivienda. También fue importante la falta de disponibilidad de insumos de construcción. El hecho de tener alta gobernabilidad no garantizó la suficiente robustez de la capacidad de gobierno. Las prácticas de planificación que se presentaron en la fase de implementación fueron normativas y se concentraron principalmente en el seguimiento y monitoreo. Formas de administración como la adhocracia y las fundaciones de Estado se distinguieron como figuras facilitadoras en el cumplimiento de los objetivos, aunque no privilegiaron la planificación como herramienta de gestión. Se asume que la planificación como proceso social puede incidir positivamente en la construcción del modelo de atención que requiere el Sistema Público de Salud. Salvador

Šiandien tyrinėtojams prieinama istoriografija tik epizodiškai aprašo Antrojo pasaulinio karo pabėgėlių buvimo Lietuvoje raidą, jų santykius su Lietuvos administracija, vietos gyventojais. Disertacijos tyrimo objektas: Antrojo pasaulinio karo pabėgėliai Lietuvoje, jų patekimo, buvimo ir išvykimo iš Lietuvos Respublikos 1939–1940 m. raida. Pirmoji darbo dalis skirta pristatyti svetimšalių ir karo pabėgėlių sąvokų panašumams ir skirtumams remiantis Lietuvos teisiniais aktais aptarti. The first chapter of dissertation discusses similarities and differences of terms foreigner and refugee according to domestic legislation. Furthermore, the peculiarities of foreigners in pre war Lithuania and World War II refugees are analyzed and the features of refugee integration are depicted. The following aspects have been under discussion as well: the circumstances of war refugee legislation, the situation of Lithuanian legislation according to international conventions. The second chapter analyses the life of Polish internees in Lithuania. Organizational work of establishing internee camps, the changes of camps’ network and its liquidation are discussed there. Separate subchapters analyze the subordination of internee soldiers to army units, the everyday life of internees in camps as well as internees repatriation to the territories occupied by Soviet Union and Germany. The third chapter concentrates on the civil refugees. The first subchapter analyses the aspects of refugee administration in Lithuania by Lithuanian Red Cross and Commissariat for refugee affairs. Studien syftade till att ge en rekommendation angående hur fjärrvärmebolaget Stockholm Exergi bör utforma sin framtida strategi beträffande fasta oförädlade skogliga biobräanslen. Genom litteraturstudier och intervjuer utreddes dessa bränslens konkurrenskraft utifrån perspektiven klimatneutralitet, politiska direktiv och styrmedel, leveranssäkerhet samt lönsamhet. Resultatet visade bland annat att användningen av grenar och toppar kan medföra klimatnytta. Vidare framkom att implementeringen av EU:s nya förnybartdirektiv inte kommer att ha storskalig påverkan på Stockholm Exergis framtida användning av dessa bränslen. Gällande leveranssäkerhet och lönsamhet påvisades exempelvis en större framtida efterfrågan på skogliga restprodukter från andra sektorer. Ändock kunde slutsatsen dras att skogliga biobräanslen, under vissa förutsäattningar, har en viktig roll i Stockholm Exergis framtida fjärrvärmeproduktion. The study aimed to give a recommendation regarding how the district heating company Stockholm Exergi should design their future strategy concerning unprocessed solid woody biofuels. Through literature studies and interviews, the competitiveness of the fuels has been assessed based on climate neutrality, political directives and instruments, security of supply as well as profitability. Among other things, the results showed that the use of tree branches and tops can imply positive climate effects. Furthermore, the implementation of EU's new renewable energy directive will only have a marginal impact on Stockholm Exergi's future use of woody biofuels. Regarding the security of supply and profitability,an increased future demand of forest residues in other sectors have been identified. However, the study concludes that, under certain circumstances, woody biofuels have an important role in Stockholm Exergi's future district heating production.

Objective: To review the flow of healthcare assistance and the incidence of abnormal results of Red Reflex Tests (RRT) in live births reported by the Regional Healthcare Departments DRS II, VI, IX and XI in the state of São Paulo, using information provided by the Eye Examination Healthcare Line. Methods: An observational, longitudinal and retrospective study was conducted using data from the Central de Regulação e Ofertas dos Serviços de Saúde -- CROSS [Centre for Control and Provision of Healthcare Services]. The study covered results of Red Reflex Tests (normal, inconclusive, abnormal) throughout the period October 2015 to September 2016 conducted at Maternity Units, Delivery Hospitals, Retest Centres (Destination 1) and Specialized Centres (Destination 2) in the region which had, as Destination 2, the Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina de Botucatu*HCFMB) [Botucatu Medical School General Hospital] UNESP (DRS II, VI, IX and XI of the state of São Paulo). Results: It was observed that the RRT for 257 neonates was classified by nonophthalmologists as altered / inconclusive in Maternity hospitals and Delivery hospitals, 63 in DRS II; 115 in DRS VI; 33 in DRS IX; and 46 in DRS XI. Considering a total of 55,291 neonates, on average 0.465% of tests conducted at Maternity hospitals / hospitals in the general region were classified as abnormal or inconclusive and required examination by an ophthalmologist (approximately 1:200 neonates). Of the 236 neonates who underwent retesting, seven (2.96%) had the abnormal diagnosis reconfirmed. Thus, 97.04% of tests conducted at Maternity / Delivery hospitals were false positive. Of the seven neonates with abnormal RRT, four (57.2%) did not make it to Destination 2; one died; two were not scheduled; and another did not turn up on the scheduled date. No recall or active search for these infants was recorded in the system. The three children treated at the HCFMB (Destination 2) were diagnosed to have: anterior polar cataract in the right eye; retinal inflammatory membrane in the left eye; and bilateral toxoplasmosis chorioretinitis. Conclusion: The incidence of confirmed diagnoses of abnormal Red Reflex Tests was 1.27: 10,000 live births, and our study showed evidence of flaws in the flow of healthcare assistance, mainly in relation to scheduling active search and/or recording patients who failed to attend.

Abstract:

La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo monitorear de qué manera se relaciona el establecimiento de Unidades Centinelas Larvarias (UCL) en los escenarios tipo II con la vigilancia y control de Aedes aegypti. En tal sentido se instaló un total de dos (02) UCL distribuidas equitativamente en las localidades de Villa Alejandro y Martha Milagros Baja, dichas UCL fueron Carpas de Lino-Modelo Árabe cuya estructura especifica fue de Lino Pesado de Policioruro de Vinilo tipo PVC-S de medidas ancho: 2 m x largo: 2 m x alto: 2 m, en su interior se dispuso nueve recipientes con agua (barril sansón, balde, tina, cilindro, botella de plástico, lata, florero, depósito de barro y llanta), adicionalmente se midió a diario parámetros físicos tales como, temperatura ambiental, temperatura del agua, cloro residual y pH. Durante abril, mayo y junio del 2014 las UCL registraron un total de 30 larvas de Aedes aegypti en la localidad de Martha Milagros Baja y ninguna en la localidad de Villa Alejandro, demostrando que en un radio primario de 100 m y un radio secundario de 400 m se puede detectar la presencia y/o ausencia del vector Aedes aegypti. El monitoreo también reconoció la preferencia de recipientes tipo “cilindro y llanta” elegidos por la hembra grávida para ovipostura y posterior criadero de larvas, aunque las localidades de Martha Milagros Baja y Villa Alejandro no se encuentran alejadas geográficamente, presentan ecosistemas totalmente diferentes debido a que las temperaturas ambientales registradas en Martha Milagros Baja exceden en 8.6°C (en la máxima) a la localidad de Villa Alejandro, esta característica puede estar vinculada a la poca altitud de la zona y a la mínima circulación de vientos que solo concentran aún más el calor.

Abstract:

This thesis’ purpose is to demonstrate, via the examination of popular youth literature (primarily pulp magazines and comic books) from the 1920s through to the 1950s, that the stories found therein drew their definitions of heroism and villainy from an overarching, nativist fear of outsiders that had existed before the Great War, but intensified afterwards. These depictions were transferred to America’s “new” enemies following both the United States’ entry into the Second World War, as well as the early stages of the Cold War. This transference of nativist imagery left behind the ethnically-based origins of such depictions, showing that racism was not the sole and simple reason for such exaggerated visages. A process of change, in regards to America’s nativist sentiment, so virulent after the First World War, will be explained by way of the popular, inexpensive escapism of the time, the pulp magazines and comic books of the early to mid-twentieth century.

Cette approche geostatistique menee sur les deux niveaux sulfures (su::(1) et su::(2)) et sur le niveau oxyde (co) montre que la repartition n'est pas aleatoire. L'analyse comparative des cartes isopaques met en evidence des similitudes entre su::(2) et co et une distribution distincte entre su::(1) et su::(2), indiquant par la que la repartition des sediments est independante des conditions d'oxydo-reduction du milieu. Les teneurs en elements de base (zn, cu, fe, mn, s sulfure) sont etudiees a travers leur moyenne ponderee, par unite lithologique et par bassin. Elles montrent une migration des sources dans l'espace et le temps depuis le nord de la fosse lors du depot de su::(1), vers le sud pendant celui de su::(2). Les teneurs en elements chalcophiles dans le bassin sud-ouest, region actuelle des emergences, sont systematiquement superieures a celles du reste de la fosse. Le developpement d'un panache en milieu oxygene conduit a la precipitation preponderante d'oxydes et a la formation du niveau oxyde (co). A l'inverse, des episodes moins intenses correspondent au piegeage du fluide hydrothermal dans les saumures et au depot des niveaux sulfures (su::(1) et su::(2))

Proceso de desarrollo de la estrategia de educadores de pares. en tres centros maternos infantiles en la jurisdicción de la Red de Salud de Villa El Salvador-Lurín-Pachacamac-Pucusana de la Dirección de Salud II Lima Sur, ubicados en los distritos del sur de la provincia de Lima. El proceso de investigación parte del análisis de la implementación de la “Estrategia de formación de los y las adolescentes como educadores de pares” determinándose tres variables de análisis: b. Nivel de prioridad que otorga los establecimientos de salud a la estrategia. c. Competencias del responsable y del equipo multidisciplinario que participa en la estrategia. La finalidad de la investigación es generar una propuesta, que consiste en articular acciones con la sociedad civil, el Estado y las instituciones educativas. Fortalecer las competencias del personal que participa en la estrategia y mejorar los procesos de gestión que implementan la “Estrategia de formación de los y las adolescentes como educadores pares”, promoviendo para las y los adolescentes el cuidado de su salud como parte de su desarrollo integral. Entre los hallazgos más importantes que hemos encontrado referente a la implementación de la Estrategia2 Referente a los establecimientos de salud, consideran que la estrategia , se encuentra la relación del asocio con las organizaciones no gubernamentales sin fines de lucro, evidenciándose, que las acciones intersectoriales se realizan con los socios donantes (cooperación internacional) y no con las instancias del estado (colegios, municipalidades y DISA). 3 2 “Estrategia de Formación de Adolescentes como Educadores de Pares” 3 “Estrategia de Formación de Adolescentes como Educadores de Pares” es importante como acciones de prevención y promoción de la salud, sin embargo, sus acciones están más enfocadas en la atención clínica. Questo progetto di ricerca ha l’obiettivo di illustrare il funzionamento dell’impianto TCR®-500 dimostrativo messo in opera nell’ambito del progetto europeo TO-SYN-FUEL e installato presso il sito industriale di Hohenburg, distretto di Sulzbach-Amberg in Baviera (Germania), attraverso un’esperienza diretta nel luogo di ubicazione dell’impianto. L’impianto combinato TCR-PSA-HDO ha l’obiettivo di dimostrare l’efficacia del processo di pirolisi con reforming termo-catalitico associato al processo di Pressure Swing Adsorption per la separazione di idrogeno presente all’interno del syngas e al processo di idro-deossigenazione per il miglioramento della qualità dell’olio di pirolisi per ottenere un sostituto completamente equivalente a diesel e benzina in accordo con gli standard europei EN590 e EN228, rispettiva-mente. Vengono quindi esposte nel dettaglio le fasi dell’intero processo operativo e le attività che sono state svolte durante il periodo di lavoro nel sito industriale, al fine di esporre le operazioni di gestione e le eventuali problematiche. Per comprendere la qualità dei prodotti, sono stati analizzati campioni di bio-olio e biochar presso i laboratori del Centro Ricerche Energia, Ambiente e Mare situato a Marina di Ravenna (RA). I risultati hanno mostrato coerenza con le aspettative del progetto TO-SYN-FUEL, in partico-lare per quanto riguarda l’efficacia del processo di idro-deossigenazione per la completa rimo-zione di ossigeno nel TCR-oil e la completa rimozione di zolfo durante il corso dell’intero pro-cesso. I risultati ottenuti dalle analisi del biochar rispecchiano efficacemente le reazioni che avvengono all’interno del post-reformer e, attraverso l’analisi dei rapporti H/C e O/C, si prospetta che il biochar abbia una buona capacità potenziale di rimozione degli inquinanti organici nel terreno e di miglioramento della stabilità del suolo.

Music Composition Ph.D. ABSTRACT Marimba Rossa is a three-movement concert piece for marimba and symphony orchestra. The 14-minute piece is written in the spirit of the Italian Baroque concertos of Antonio Vivaldi (the "Red Priest" for whom the piece is named), using a harmonic and rhythm language that is heavily influenced by the concert and pop music of the late twentieth-century. Marimba Rossa was composed with the concept of Ars Combinatoria in mind. First espoused by George Rochberg in 1973, Ars Combinatoria is concert music that uses musical gestures drawn from any musical tradition. The accompanying monograph provides a detailed history of the modern concert marimba and an account of the evolution of its concert and popular music repertoire. Specific information about the marimba's origins in Asia, its place in the Bible, the development of the European strohfiedel xylophone, the refinement of the instrument in America, and a discussion of the Guatemalan, Mexican, and Japanese marimba tradition is included to provide a context and rationale for the composing of Marimba Rossa. La presente investigación titulada ‘’Análisis de la relación del Clima Laboral y Engagement en un Hospital de la red de EsSalud en Lima-Provincias’’ enmarcó el estudio de dos variables primordiales para la gestión de una organización del sector salud: Clima Organizacional y Engagement, debido a la influencia que tienen ambas sobre el desempeño de los colaboradores y el logro de objetivos institucionales. Se emplearon ecuaciones estructurales mediante modelos SEM en el software (programa) Stata para determinar la existencia del vínculo entre ambas variables, así como para establecer qué factores son los más importantes del Clima Organizacional sobre el Engagement en el personal de un nosocomio al interior del país. Para ello, se utilizaron dos herramientas cuantitativas: la encuesta ‘’Metodología para el estudio del Clima Organizacional’’ o EDCO (Encuesta de Clima Organizacional) del Ministerio de Salud (MINSA) y la encuesta ‘’UWES o UTRECH-17’’. El sujeto de estudio fue el Hospital II Gustavo Lanatta Luján, de la ciudad de Huacho y que pertenece a la red de EsSalud, y tomando como base el ejercicio del 2018, la entidad contó con 416 colaboradores, requiriendo para la investigación 200 personas; sin embargo, se obtuvo respuesta de 238 miembros y se descartaron 30 encuestas debido a los criterios de exclusión. Por lo tanto, se analizaron 208 encuestas para los objetivos de la investigación. Se diagnosticó que el estado actual del Clima Organizacional es ‘’Por Mejorar’’ y del Engagement es “Promedio”. Asimismo, se comprobó la existencia de la relación entre ambas variables, siendo ésta positiva y significativa debido al Alfa de Cronbach menor a 0.05. Por último, los factores más significativos del Clima Organizacional sobre el Engagement para el personal del Hospital son Identidad, Estructura y Recompensa. Tesis

Após a análise dos dados, constatamos que o desenvolvimento do programa na Escola Cristo Rei foi dificultado pela ausência de uma comunicação entre as equipes gestoras responsáveis pela implantação do programa no estado de Pernambuco. Ao final da dissertação, apresentamos um Plano de Intervenção Educacional direcionado para a Escola Cristo Rei com o intuito de aprimorarmos a execução cotidiana do programa. The present dissertation aims to analyze the development of the School Learning Management Program (GESTAR II) in the Cristo Rei School, of the Pernambuco State Education Network, within the period from 2010 to 2011, through continued education meetings on the Portuguese Language. The choice of this particular school unit is due to its emphasis and development on the participation of the Portuguese teachers present in the continued education meeting offered by the program. In order to perform the investigation, we chose to make use of semi-structured interview with the participants in the educators group, with the group of course teachers, and with the management teams in the State Department of Education of Pernambuco and Federal University of Pernambuco, who are responsible for the GESTAR II educational meetings. After the analysis of the data, we find the process of development of the program in the Cristo Rei school was hampered due to the absence of effective communication between the management teams responsible for the implementation of the program in the state of Pernambuco. As a conclusion, in the third chapter, we present a Plan of Educational Intervention, directed at the Cristo Rei school, aiming at the improvement in the daily execution of the program.

Ultimately, this work aims to perceive how such aspect have changed through these two biographs. The strategy used for the author’s historiographical approach consists of the analysis of the author’s prefaces. In these, Pedro Calmon displays, in a very clear manner, his perception about important concepts of historiography. In addition to the profiles of D. Pedro II, formal aspects of biographies are considered.

Abstract:

The cytokine, interleukin-7 (IL-7), has essential growth activities that maintain the homeostatic balance of the immune system. Little is known of the mechanism by which IL-7 signaling regulates metabolic activity in support of its vital function in lymphocytes. We observed that IL-7 deprivation caused a rapid decline in ATP levels that were attributable to loss of intracellular glucose retention. To identify the transducer of the IL-7 metabolic signal, we examined the expression of three important regulators of glucose metabolism, the glucose transporter, GLUT-1, and two glycolytic enzymes, Hexokinase II (HXKII) and phosphofructokinase-1 (PFK1), using an IL-7-dependent T-cell line and primary lymphocytes. We found that in lymphocytes deprived of IL-7 loss of glucose uptake correlated with decreased expression of HXKII. Re-addition of IL-7 to cytokine deprived lymphocytes restored the transcription of the HXKII gene within 2 hours, but not that of GLUT-1 or PFK1. IL-7-mediated increases in HXKII, but not GLUT-1 or PFK-1, were also observed at the protein level. Inhibition of HXKII with 3-Bromopyruvate or specific siRNA decreased glucose utilization, as well as ATP levels, in the presence of IL-7, while over-expression of HXKII, but not GLUT-1, restored glucose retention and increased ATP levels in the absence of IL-7. This IL-7 mediated HXKII gene expression was abrogated with inhibition of JNK pathway. IL-7 also increased activation of AP-1 complex and DNA binding of JunD, a transcriptional complex thought to be negative regulator of proliferation. We found that over expression of HXKII caused cell cycle arrest and cell death, indicating that a potent IL-7 signal could produce negative growth signals. We conclude that IL-7 controls glucose utilization by regulating the gene expression of HXKII through activation of JNK-JunD pathway, suggesting a mechanism by which IL-7 supports bioenergetics that control cell fate decisions in lymphocytes. Abstract:

A large number of anti-cancer chemotherapeutics target DNA topoisomerases. Etoposide is a specific topoisomerase II poison which causes reversible double strand DNA breaks. The focus of this project is to analyze the repair of DNA damage induced by etoposide.. Double strand DNA break repair is mediated by through either non-homologous end joining (NHEJ) or homologous recombination. NHEJ repairs through direct ligation of a double stranded break while homologous recombination utilizes a homologous template to recover the wild type sequence. A reporter cassette, RYDR-GFP, has been stably integrated into HeLa cells. This reporter contains an ultra-high affinity topoisomerase II cleavage site (RY) placed in the middle of a mutant GFP sequence. Flanking this sequence is a corresponding stretch of wild type GFP that is used as template to repair the break and restore gene function yielding GFP positive cells. Titrations with etoposide have shown that a logarithmic increase in drug concentration yields a corresponding increase in repair through homologous recombination (HR). This result demonstrates that topoisomerase II mediated damage is efficiently repaired by the process of HR. To examine NHEJ repair, a doxycycline inducible, stably integrated NHEJ HeLa cell reporter cassette was also evaluated. The data indicates that repair of topoisomerase II mediated DNA damage occurs more efficiently through the HR pathway. Collectively, the data suggests that tumor cells proficient in HR repair may effectively elude treatment by topoisomerase II targeting drugs. B.S. King, Kingdom and Papacy intersect each other in our analysis about the deposition process that unseated the Portuguese king and, at the same time, those interactions are crucial regarding the dynamic research that we establish in this work. Sancho II had a troubled coexistence with the clergy and the papal curia, especially in the time of Gregory IX (1227- 1241) and Innocent IV (1243-1254). We argue that this problem came from the great power concentrated in the hands of Iberian clergy, beyond the break of the king with a certain faction of those prelates, in particular, Master Vicente and the archbishop of Braga, Silvestre Godinho. In the Council of Lyon (1245), the Portuguese monarch was deposed by Pope Innocent IV (called rex inutilis, in other words, inadequate to lead the government of the kingdom), due to a linkage involving not only the high Portuguese ecclesiastical dignitaries, but also the king’s brother, Afonso, the Count of Bologna. We have spent some effort to understand some details of papal action, especially the time when the king’s situation worsened. For that investigative task, we emphasize the documents issued by the Chancellery of Sancho II and the papal documentation designed to Portugal. We intend with our analysis to evince that far from being unable to rule, in different circumstances, the Portuguese monarch expressed the royal will, both in negotiations and in retaliations against opponents. Esta pesquisa tem como fito investigar as relações da monarquia portuguesa com o papado no século XIII, de modo especial, o reinado de D. Sancho II (1223-1248). Rei, Reino e Papado se entrecruzam em nossa análise acerca do processo de deposição que destituiu o monarca português e, ao mesmo tempo, na dinâmica de investigação que estabelecemos no corpo deste trabalho. Sancho II teve uma convivência conturbada com o clero e com a cúria pontifícia, mormente no tempo de Gregório IX (1227-1241) e Inocêncio IV (1243-1254). Defendemos que esse problema proveio do grande poder contido nas mãos do clero ibérico, além do rompimento do rei com determinada facção daqueles prelados, nomeadamente, Mestre Vicente e o arcebispo de Braga, Silvestre Godinho. No Concílio de Lyon de 1245, o monarca português foi deposto pelo Papa Inocêncio IV (tratado como um rex inutilis, isto é, insuficiente para conduzir o governo do reino), devido uma articulação que envolveu não só os altos dignitários eclesiásticos portugueses, mas também o irmão do rei, Afonso, o Conde de Bolonha. Foi preciso despendermos certo esforço para compreender alguns pormenores da ação pontifícia, principalmente, o momento em que a situação do rei se agravou. Para essa labuta investigativa, recorremos com maior ênfase aos documentos expedidos na chancelaria de Sancho II e a documentação pontifícia destinada a Portugal. Pretendemos com nossa análise, evidenciar que longe de mostrar-se incapaz, em diversas circunstâncias o monarca português manifestou a vontade régia, tanto em negociações, assim como em retaliações aos oponentes.

Kinesiology Ph.D. This study explored the relationship between general or real-world multitasking and task specific multitasking as related to the real time strategy game Star Craft II: Wings of Liberty (Blizzard, 2010). In addition to exploring this relationship, the research also attempted to examine the effect task specific multitasking training had within Star Craft II. Data for the current research were collected in two phases. Phase one consisted of a pre/post-test design, with random assignment to either the gamer-control or experimental group. Participants in the experimental group were asked to complete 10 to 11 hours on the Star Craft II based Multitasking Trainer (stet_tcl, 2010) in between two, five trial blocks of the SynWin (Acivity Research Services, 2000); a computer based general multitasking measure. Participants in the gamer-control group were asked to complete 10 to 11 hours of one-versus-one Star Craft II ladder matches, and complete the same pre/post-test SynWin battery. Both groups were asked to send the researcher their three most recent one-versus-one ladder matches prior to starting the assigned protocol, and three more upon completion. Phase two participants only completed the pre-test SynWin battery, and were assigned to either the non-gamer control or gaming-control groups based on their weekly use of PC/console games and Star Craft II play. Inclusion in the non-gamer control group required less than one hour of PC/console gaming per week. Participants in the gaming-control group were asked to submit their three most recent one-versus-one Star Craft II ladder replays. For the purpose of this research, the operational definition for Star Craft II multitasking was effective actions per-minute (EAPM), a subset of actions per-minute (APM). Analysis of the gathered data from both phases of recruitment indicated a moderately strong positive relationship between SynWin scores and EAPM values (r = 0.636, p = 0.014). An evaluation of the effectiveness of the multitasking trainer was not completed due to a lack of adequate participation. Temple University--Theses

By means of theoretical research, this study comes to the understanding about the shattering and devastating meaning of politics as tragedy, in that it´s searched, by the Hermeneutic, focus, relate, analyze William Shakespeare´s work historical time, the English king Ricardo II government, beyond the controversial theory of the kings divine right reinforced, discussed and extended by the English jurists during Queen Elizabeth govern (1558-1603). It was selected, as analysis cuttings, the conflicts, paradoxes, tensions, search for legality and legitimacy, the imminent human beings involvement in a tragic dimension in which life and death, ascent and decadence, glory and failure are inevitable and constituents phases of the political power eternal dispute . It´s believed that Shakespeare has achieved reveal the Two Bodies of the king tragedy in that piece called Ricardo II. By that reason, that medieval legal doctrine of the Shakespeare literary output cannot be separated and, if that theory has been losing its meaning in time, it still has human and concrete meaning nowadays; this, in great extent, dues to him. It is considered, in this study, that Shakespeare dominated the jargon of almost all the human position, besides the contact of this with the constitutional and legal speech of his time. Besides that, the poet conception about the king twin nature does not depend on constitutional protection only, since the piece conceives, a lot naturally, the king twin nature. In that sense, it is expected that the present study contributes for the understanding search of the Two Bodies of the king theory, that it´s constituted in a ramification of the Christian theological thought and, consequently, that piece remains like a Christian political theology landmark A tragédia da política é a certeza do inesperado, a constante reposição de energias humanas, o esforço para evitar o inevitável, a busca da ordem e da harmonia em face do desequilíbrio e do caos. Por meio de pesquisa teórica, este estudo volta-se para o entendimento acerca do impactante e devastador significado de política como tragédia, em que buscamos, com base na Hermenêutica, enfocar, relacionar, analisar o tempo histórico da obra de William Shakespeare, o governo do rei inglês Ricardo II, além da controversa teoria do direito divino dos reis reforçada, discutida e ampliada pelos juristas ingleses durante o governo da rainha Elisabeth (1558-1603). Foram selecionados como recortes para análise os conflitos, paradoxos, tensões, busca de legalidade e legitimidade, os iminentes envolvimentos dos seres humanos, numa dimensão trágica, em que vida e morte, ascensão e decadência, glória e fracasso são etapas inevitáveis e constitutivas da eterna disputa pelo poder político. Acreditamos que Shakespeare tenha alcançado revelar a tragédia dos Dois Corpos do rei nessa peça Ricardo II. Por essa razão, não se pode separar essa doutrina jurídica medieval da produção literária de Shakespeare e, se essa teoria esvaneceu no tempo, ainda possui, hoje, significado concreto e humano; isso, em grande parte, deve-se a ele. Consideramos, neste trabalho, que Shakespeare dominava o jargão de quase todo o ofício humano, além do contato deste com a fala constitucional e jurídica de seu tempo. Além disso, a concepção do poeta sobre a natureza gêmea do rei não depende de amparo somente constitucional, uma vez que a peça concebe, muito naturalmente, a natureza geminada do rei. A presente pesquisa consiste em, a partir da ideia de dois corpos do rei e de seus possíveis arranjos politicamente produtivos, pensar as interpretações historiográficas e as imagens literárias acerca de d. Pedro II elaboradas no Brasil, desde o começo dos anos 1920, época conturbada da vida política e cultural, até o início da década de 1940, quando se vivia, sob o governo de Getúlio Vargas, nos tempos do Estado Novo. São duas décadas carregadas de significados e memórias, nas quais se viveu a celebração e a fixação de marcos históricos para a ainda bastante jovem nação brasileira. Analisar as obras feitas neste período possibilita compreender a maneira como cada autor lidava com a ambiguidade do imperador, como cada um trabalhava, a partir de interesses específicos, o risco e a produtividade da política no monarca enfeixada. Indo além, é possível entender como cada um pensava e criticava, dessa maneira, mais do que o Segundo Reinado e seu monarca, o próprio regime republicano. A partir de apontamentos teóricos referentes às relações entre história e memória, são analisadas obras variadas, numa tentativa de mapear controvérsias que emergem em textos de gêneros diversos. Com a leitura e análise dos documentos, fica claro que a memória do imperador passou por uma série de disputas e debates, por interpretações que alternaram o tom positivo com a crítica mais satírica e corrosiva; entendimentos que, no contexto de sua produção, adquiriam eminente caráter político. Além disso, por conta de seu aspecto emblemático, muitas das questões e problemáticas levantadas no período possibilitam entendimentos amplos sobre a cultura política brasileira, inclusive de assuntos que tocam os nossos dias. Pensar essas elaborações e arranjos, seus riscos e produtividades, sua memória e longa duração, tais são os principais objetivos desta pesquisa. This research consists in, based on the idea of the king\'s double body and its political arrangements, read and analyze the historical interpretations and literary images of d. Pedro II produced in Brazil since the early 1920s, a tumultuous time of political and cultural life, until the early 1940s, period when the country was under the government of Getúlio Vargas, in the times of Estado Novo. These two decades are full of meanings and memories; during these years, celebrations and historical marks were established for the until too young Brazilian nation. Analyze these works allows us to understand the way each author dealt with the ambiguity of the emperor, with the risk and the productivity of his policy. In this way, it is possible to understand how each author thought and criticized more than the Second Empire and its monarch, the republican regime itself. From theoretical approaches concerning the relationship between history and memory, various works are analyzed in an attempt to map out controversies that emerge in texts from various genres. This documents show clearly how the memory of the Emperor went through a series of disputes and debates; they also show how, in the context of its production, those interpretations acquired eminent political character. Furthermore, many of the problems raised in the studied period enable understandings about Brazilian political culture, including issues that reach our days. Think those elaborations and arrangements, their risks and productivity, their memory and long duration; such are the main objectives of this research.

A pesquisa tem por objetivo investigar como os alunos encaminhados para essas classes percebem e analisam sua condição de fracasso escolar (na medida em que não conseguiram concluir o Ensino Fundamental dentro do Regime de Progressão Continuada) e o que pensam sobre o projeto em que estão inseridos a Recuperação de Ciclo II sobre a escola e sobre a contribuição dos saberes escolares para a realização de seus projetos de vida. Para análise da temática investigada são utilizadas as contribuições teóricas de Pérez Gómez sobre a cultura experiencial dos alunos e de Bernard Charlot sobre a noção de relação com o saber. A pesquisa iniciou-se com um estudo preliminar envolvendo um grupo focal composto por quatro alunos que freqüentaram uma classe de Recuperação de Ciclo II, no ano de 2004, em uma escola estadual do Vale do Ribeira. A partir de dados levantados nesse primeiro estudo, realizou-se a pesquisa principal em outra escola da mesma região por meio de entrevistas com oito alunos matriculados em classe de Recuperação de Ciclo II no ano de 2005, análise de seus cadernos e de documentos escolares (fichas de avaliação individual, históricos escolares, projetos de recuperação paralela, atas de resultados finais). Para a coleta de dados foram elaborados e testados os seguintes instrumentos: roteiro para entrevista, questionário sócio-econômico, roteiro para análise de documentos escolares, roteiro para análise dos cadernos. Os resultados da coleta de dados foram organizados em quadros-síntese e tabelas e permitiram concluir que os alunos explicam a situação de fracasso escolar de formas diversas: alguns responsabilizam a si próprios, outros, a problemas externos, demonstrando diferentes mecanismos afetivos e disposições para assimilar os resultados escolares insatisfatórios. Confirmou-se a hipótese inicial de que a maioria revela dificuldade em estabelecer uma relação significativa com os saberes escolares e, dessa forma, tem sua permanência na escola constantemente prejudicada. Essa dificuldade com os conteúdos acadêmicos, associada a outros problemas, decorrentes em grande parte, de situações relacionadas à origem sócio-econômica desses alunos e às condições da região em que moram o Vale do Ribeira, uma das regiões mais carentes do Estado de São Paulo tais como acesso limitado a bens culturais mais elaborados, necessidade de ingressar precocemente no mercado de trabalho, poucas oportunidades de estudos profissionalizantes e superiores, contribui para que muitos desses alunos mantenham freqüência irregular e acabem abandonando a escola.

Pertencente à tradição indígena e assimilada pelo colonizador europeu e pelo negro africano, o seu uso está enraizado nos hábitos culturais do brasileiro, especialmente do Nordestino, que não abre mão do seu acolhedor repouso. Na cidade de Pedro II, Piauí, encontra-se uma tradicional produção de redes de dormir artesanais. Implantada no final do século XIX, é um importante meio de geração de renda e forte traço da cultura local, o que a caracteriza como uma atividade com potencial para promoção do desenvolvimento sustentável local na região. Atualmente, esse artefato passa por um processo de desvalorização, enfrentando uma forte concorrência com a rede sol a sol e a industrializada no mercado local. Resistindo a esse processo e elemento de intervenção do design através de instituições como SEBRAE e Artesol, encontra-se a rede de dormir artesanal da Associação Xique-Xique. Objeto de estudo desta pesquisa, que tem o propósito de analisar as ações de design como instrumento a serviço do desenvolvimento sustentável local na rede de dormir artesanal na Associação Xique-Xique, em Pedro II-Piauí, em sua dimensão sociocultural e econômica. Os resultados da pesquisa apontam que o artefato possui um elevado valor sociocultural e importância econômica para as tecelãs e que o design pode ser um meio para melhorar a competitividade das redes de dormir artesanais. Mas para que as intervenções se revertam em DSL na Associação Xique-Xique é necessário desenvolver uma ação conjunta e eficaz em toda a cadeia produtiva. É importante levar em consideração não somente o produto, mas aspectos relacionados, por exemplo, à gestão, comunicação e mercado. The hammock is a representative artifact of Brazilian material culture. Belonging to the indigenous tradition and assimilated by the European colonizers and the black Africans, its use is rooted in cultural habits in Brazil, especially the Northeast´s people who do not give up of a comfortable rest. The city of Pedro II, in Piauí, Brazil, has a traditional production of handmade hammocks. The activity was implanted in the late nineteenth century and actually is an important way for generating income and strong feature of local culture, which characterizes it as a potential activity to promote local sustainable development in the region. Currently, this artifact goes through a process of devaluation, facing strong competition with the hammock industrialized in the local market. In this context the hammock craft of Xique-Xique Association resist with support and as an intervention element of the design of institutions such Sebrae and Astesol. The Xique-Xique Association is the object of study of this research, which aims to analyze the design of actions as an instrument at the service of Sustainable Development Location (DSL) in Xique-Xique Association in Pedro II, Piauí, in their socio-cultural and economic dimension. The survey results indicate that the artifact has a high socio-cultural value and economic importance to the weavers and that design can be a means to improve the competitiveness of handmade hammocks. But for reverse the interventions in DSL in the Xique-Xique Association is necessary to develop effective joint action across the all production chain. It is important to take into consideration not only the product but related aspects, for example, management, communication and market.

Abstract:

Hormonally-triggered regulatory hierarchies play a major role in organismal development. Disruption of a single member of such a hierarchy can lead to irregular development and disease. Therefore, knowledge of the members involved and the mechanisms controlling signaling through such pathways is of great importance in understanding how resulting developmental defects occur. Type II transmembrane serine proteases (TTSPs) make up a family of cell surface-associated proteases that play important roles in the development and homeostasis of a number of mammalian tissues. Aberrant expression of TTSPs is linked to several human disorders, including deafness, heart and respiratory disease and cancer. However, the mechanism by which these proteases function remains unknown. The ecdysone-responsive Stubble TTSP of Drosophila serves as a good model in which to study the functional mechanism of the TTSP family. The Stubble protease interacts with the intracellular Rho1 (RhoA) pathway to control epithelial development in imaginal discs. The Rho1 signaling pathway regulates cellular behavior via control of gene expression and actin cytoskeletal dynamics. However, the mechanism by which the Stubble protease interacts with the Rho1 pathway to control epithelial development, in particular leg imaginal disc morphogenesis, has yet to be elucidated. The Stubble protein consists of several conserved domains. One approach to a better understanding of the mechanism of action of Stubble in regulating Rho1 signaling is to define which of the conserved domains within the protease are required for proper function. Sequence analysis of twelve recessive Stubble mutant alleles has revealed that the proteolytic domain is essential for proper function. Alleles containing mutations which disrupt regions of the protease domain necessary for protease activation or substrate binding, as well as those with deletions or truncations that remove some portion of the proteolytic domain, result in defective epithelial development in vivo. In contrast, mutations in other regions of the Stubble protein, including the disulfide-knotted and cytoplasmic domains, were not observed. Another important step for defining the connection between Stubble and Rho1 signaling is to identify a Stubble target that acts as an upstream regulator of the Rho1 pathway. We performed a genetic screen in which 97 of the 147 Drosophila non-olfactory and non-gustatory G-protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs), a family of proteins that has been shown to be protease-activated and to activate Rho1 signaling, were tested for interactions with a mutant allele of Stubble. We found 4 genomic regions uncovering a total of 7 GPCRs that interact genetically when in heterozygous combination with a Stubble mutant. Abstract:

Human Topoisomerase IB (TOP1) and Topoisomerase II? (TOP2?) are essential nuclear enzymes that control DNA topology during DNA replication, gene transcription and cell division. These enzymes carry out their catalytic function by making transient single-strand (type I) or double-strand (type II) breaks in the DNA. In vivo, these complexes are short-lived but can be exploited by anti-cancer drugs to mechanistically kill cancer cells. Two general classes of compounds can kill cancer cells through a topo-targeted mechanism. Interfacial Poisons (IFPs) act at the enzyme-DNA interface to inhibit the religation reaction, resulting in the accumulation of DNA double-stand breaks (DSBs) in the genomic setting. Catalytic Inhibitor Compounds (CICs) act by interfering with other steps of the catalytic cycles such as DNA/protein binding or the cleavage reaction. In this work we identify new Au3+ macrocyclic gold complexes that act as CICs of both TOP1 and TOP2?. The complexes exhibit square planar geometry with an aromatic system that allows for DNA intercalation with binding affinities in the low micromolar range. A cytotoxicity screen across 60 human cancer cell lines performed by the National Cancer Institute (NCI, USA) reveals significant anti-tumor potential. Our lead compound (butyl gold(III) macrocycle, cmpd 3.) is currently undergoing further studies in animal models at the NCI. In vitro assays with purified DNA and enzyme reveal the Au3+ ion to be the quintessential switch that allows for DNA intercalation and subsequent inhibition of TOP1 and TOP2?. Abstract:

Oral Biology M.S. Alpha-actinins are myofibril anchor proteins, which influence contractile properties of skeletal muscle. ACTN2 is expressed in slow type I and fast type II fibers whereas ACTN3 is expressed only in fast fibers. ACTN3 homozygosity for the 577X stop codon (i.e. changing 577RR to 577XX - the R577X polymorphism) results in the absence of alpha-actinin-3 in about 18% of Europeans, diminished fast contractile ability, enhanced endurance performance, and reduced bone mass or bone mineral density. We have examined ACTN3 expression and genetic variation in masseter muscle of orthognathic surgery patients to determine genotype associations with malocclusion. To determine the associations between genotypes and malocclusions, clinical information, masseter muscle biopsies, and saliva samples were obtained from 60 subjects. Genotyping for ACTN3 SNPs, RT-PCR quantitation of muscle gene message, and muscle morphometric fiber type properties were compared to determine statistical differences between genotype and phenotype. We found muscle mRNA expression level was significantly different for ACTN3 SNP genotypes (p<0.01). The frequency of ACTN3 genotypes was significantly different for sagittal and vertical classifications of malocclusion with the clearest association being elevated 577XX genotype in skeletal Class II malocclusion (p = 0.003). This genotype also resulted in significantly smaller diameter of fast type II fibers in masseter muscle (p=0.002). In conclusion, ACTN3 577XX is overrepresented in skeletal Class II malocclusion, suggesting a biologic influence during bone growth. ACTN3 577XX is underrepresented in deep bite malocclusion, suggesting muscle differences contribute to variations in vertical facial dimensions. Temple University--Theses

The current research used an analysis methodology of social networks to analyze the formal and informal support given to the familiar-caretaker of people suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophies types I and II. Thirteen mothers were used in this research as being the main Caretakers of their ill children. The research was developed all through the year of 2008, and the data collection was made in the residences of those mothers and in the facilities of the Albert Sabin Children's hospital, in Fortaleza-Ceará. The collection of data was made by the meanings of interviews and the use of a name generator and a relationship qualificator especially adapted for the use of the researcher. The quantitative data were processed by the computing programs UCINET 6.123 and NetDraw 2.38 respectively for the entry and manipulation of the data and for the visualization of the maps of the formal and informal network program. The qualitative data was organized as per the Collective Subject Speech technique. The analyses were made based on the network maps and of the collective speeches made on the subjects of: Do I have difficulties in manipulating him? Do I need someone's help in dealing with the equipment? Does the difficulty increases when I get sick? Is it always complicated to set boundaries? The formal social-network allowed identifying the caretaking families and they reveled the existence of 72 actors, among health professionals, education professionals and others that were connected with 12 institutions. The informal network was composed of 83 actors. A density of 0,0123 was identified, which imply that of 6.806 possibilities of a relation, only 83 were actually done. Considering the type of support received, 77 people were referred as emotional support (an average of 5.92 per informant and standard deviation of 1,84); 52 as suppliers (an average of 4 per informant and standard deviation of 2,12) and 17 as information support (an average of 1,30 per informant and standard deviation of 1,25). It was observed that the management of the care given, even when the Familiar-Caretaker has people to support him, is a reason for great emotional distress. These people, by living in these conditions, developed mechanisms that allowed them to conciliate the caring for the ill person with their own physical and economic conditions. The emotional and social areas were the ones that were most debilitated. It was considered the necessity of an intervention in the studied network, enlarging the connections and the assistance potential of that strategy. Proper Health care, social instrumentalization and psychological support must still be provided, minimizing the risks of rejection by the sick and the health hazards for the caretaker. In conclusion, it's clear the importance of the application of the network analysis, as a tool for the knowledge of the structural aspects and the dynamics of the networks, as is the recognition and the use of the existent social support in the reality of the Familiar-Caretaker of people suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy. Cada vez mais vem sendo reconhecida a influência dos relacionamentos que uma pessoa mantém ao longo de sua vida, contribuindo para a melhoria das condições de vida e a prevenção do adoecimento. Na presente pesquisa utilizou-se a metodologia de Análise de Redes Sociais para analisar a rede formal e informal de apoio ao Familiar Cuidador de pessoa com Atrofia Muscular Espinhal tipos I e II. Foram utilizadas como informantes 13 mães, as cuidadoras principais de seus filhos doentes. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida durante o ano de 2008, sendo a coleta de dados realizada nas residências dos informantes e nas dependências do Hospital Infantil Albert Sabin, em Fortaleza-Ceará. Para tanto, utilizou-se a entrevista e o instrumento gerador de nomes e qualificador da relação, adaptado para ser aplicado pela pesquisadora. Os dados quantitativos foram processados através dos programas computacionais UCINET 6.123 e NetDraw 2.38, respectivamente para a entrada e manipulação dos dados e para a visualização dos mapas das redes formal e informal. Os dados qualitativos foram organizados com base na técnica do Discurso do Sujeito Coletivo. As análises se deram em função dos mapas de rede e dos discursos coletivos suscitados pelas Idéias Centrais: eu sinto dificuldade pra manusear ele; preciso de uma pessoa para ajudar e lidar com os aparelhos, pois a dificuldade maior é quando eu adoeço; e é sempre muito complicado impor limites. A rede social formal permitiu identificar que os Familiares Cuidadores revelaram a existência de 72 atores, entre profissionais das áreas da saúde, educação e outros, vinculados a 12 instituições. A rede informal total era composta de 83 atores. Identificou-se uma densidade de 0,0123, o que implica dizer que de 6.806 possibilidades de relações, apenas 83 estavam sendo concretizadas. Considerando o tipo de suporte percebido, 77 pessoas foram referidas como suporte emocional (média de 5,92 por informante e desvio padrão de 1,84); 52 como suporte material (média de 4 por informante e desvio padrão de 2,12) e 17 como suporte informativo (média de 1,30 por informante e desvio padrão de 1,25). Constatou-se que o gerenciamento do cuidado, mesmo quando o familiar cuidador pode contar com pessoas que lhe dêem suporte, é motivo de estresse e sobrecarga. Ao vivenciarem essa condição, desenvolveram mecanismos que lhes permitiam conciliar o cuidado com a pessoa doente e as suas condições físicas e econômicas. As dimensões emocional e social eram as mais comprometidas. Considerou-se haver necessidade de intervenção na rede estudada, ampliando as conexões e conseqüente potencial de ajuda dessa estratégia. Ainda devem ser assegurados acompanhamentos em saúde, sociais de instrumentalização e psicológicos de empoderamento, minimizando, com isso, os riscos de rejeição do cuidado e adoecimento do Familiar Cuidador. Conclui-se pela importância da aplicação da Análise de Redes Sociais como ferramenta para conhecimento dos aspectos estruturais e da dinâmica das redes, assim como o reconhecimento e a utilização dos apoios sociais existentes na realidade do Familiar Cuidador de pessoas com Atrofia Muscular Espinhal.

Partindo do princípio que, ligado a práticas sociais e não apenas a objetivos didáticos, o ensino da língua promove a interação, integração e inserção social, este trabalho apresenta uma investigação sobre o funcionamento sociocomunicativo e discursivo das marcas de interatividade em produções textuais de alunos do 9 ano da Educação Básica, da rede municipal de ensino de duas escolas da área metropolitana de Recife. Ocupa-se em descrever e analisar marcas de interatividade que contribuam para acentuar a importância do trabalho pedagógico com os gêneros em produções textuais escritas e propõe que os gêneros textuais assumem características específicas para adaptarem-se às diversas situações de uso real, o que faz dele uma produção de linguagem socialmente situada. A pesquisa, que tem por objetivo geral investigar se há mais marcas de interatividade nas produções textuais do que nas redações escolares, trabalha com o método hipotético-dedutivo constituído por análise de conteúdo (produções textuais) além da pesquisa bibliográfica e parte da hipótese de que o uso de marcas de interatividade em atividades com gêneros textuais é um dos méritos do trabalho com os gêneros discursivos. Assim, fazer um levantamento das produções textuais dos alunos, investigar as marcas de interatividade nessas produções, realizar análises comparativas entre produções textuais e redações escolares, investigar as práticas do trabalho docente e a influência da oralidade na escrita, considerando o continu um tipológico existente entre essas duas modalidades, constituem-se como objetivos específicos deste trabalho. O corpus é constituído de 19 textos analisados, nos quais, em sua maioria, manifestava-se uma relação interativa entre os interlocutores. Apoiando-se em princípios teóricos e metodológicos advindos do interacionismo sociodiscursivo e do princípio do dialogismo, esta investigação construiu seu caminho metodológico sob uma abordagem que envolve as produções textuais como objeto principal do ensino tendo o texto como foco de trabalho. Dos resultados obtidos são tiradas as seguintes conclusões: 1. mais do que simples estratégias de textualização, as marcas de interatividade representam um aspecto importantíssimo da interação escritor/leitor e a língua 2. o trabalho com as marcas de interatividade nos gêneros incentiva a revisão de posicionamentos obsoletos sobre o continuum fala-escrita na organização da produção do texto Assuming that, linked to social practices and not just the teaching goals, teaching the language promotes interaction, integration and social inclusion, this work presents an investigation into the operation sociocomunicative and discursive marks of interactivity in textual productions of students in 9th grade of basic education, the municipal school of two schools in the metropolitan area of Recife. Is concerned with describing and analyzing data that contribute to stress the importance of the educational work with the genres of texts written textual productions, proposes that the text genres assume specific characteristics to adapt to different situations of real use, making it a production of socially situated language. The research, which general aims investigate if there are more marks of interactivity in textual productions than in school writings, works with the hypothetical-deductive method consists of content analysis (textual productions) in addition to the bibliography resource and on the assumption that the use of the trademarks with interactive textual genres is one of the merits of working with discursive genres. Thus, surveying the textual productions of the students, investigating the marks of interactivity in these productions , perform comparative analysis between textual productions and write school , investigate the practices of teaching and the influence of orality in write, considering the typological continuum between these two arrangements , are as specific objectives of this work .The corpus of 19 texts analyzed, in which, mostly manifested itself in an interactive relationship between the interlocutors . Supporting on theoretical and methodological principles arising from sociodiscursive interactionism and the principle of dialogism , this investigation worked his way under a methodological approach that involves the textual productions as main object of teaching with the text as the focus of work.From the results obtained, conclusions are taken off: 1. more than simple strategies of textualization, the interactivity marks represent a important aspect of the interaction reading/writer and language 2. the working with interactivity marks in the genres encourages the review of obsolete positions on the speech -writing continuum to organize production of the text

A etiologia da disfunção temporomandibular está associada a vários fatores, tais como alterações físicas, estresse, problemas emocionais, além de alterações psicossociais e de comportamento. A prevalência desta alteração ainda é fonte de questionamentos e controvérsias. Estima-se a presença de DTM em pelo menos 50% da população de adultos, destacando-se maior ocorrência no gênero feminino, na proporção de 5:1. O trabalho docente apresenta alguns fatores iniciadores, perpetuadores e predisponentes, tais como carga horária, tempo de serviço e aspectos socioeconômicos. Existem lacunas de informação quanto à prevalência de DTM em professores. Este trabalho tem como objetivo investigar a presença da DTM nesta população e verificar a associação aos fatores sócio-demográficos e condições de trabalho, de forma a propor medidas efetivas de controle e tratamento destas alterações. Foi realizado um estudo transversal com professores da rede pública do estado da Bahia, mediante aplicação de questionário contendo o Índice Anamnésico de Fonseca e questões relacionadas a condições sócio-demográficas. Os dados foram analisados descritivamente e utilizados os testes qui-quadrado e t-student para verificar possíveis associações, assumindo uma prevalência de 50% da doença, um nível de confiança de 95% e um poder de 80%. Os resultados encontrados demonstraram uma prevalência de 81,16% no grupo entrevistado, com indicações da influência das condições laborais e psicossociais no desenvolvimento, manutenção e agravamento da disfunção temporomandibular, porém sem significância estatística.

Abstract:

Durante i prossimi anni, un gran numero di laboratori saranno impegnati in un programma di upgrade dei principali esperimenti al Large Hadron Collider (LHC), chiamato upgrade Fase-II. L’Istituto Nazionale di Fisica Nucleare (INFN) e il gruppo A Toroidal LHC Apparatus (ATLAS) di Bologna hanno sviluppato un prototipo di una nuova scheda chiamata PIxel detector high Luminosity UPgrade (PILUP), la quale é una possibile candidata per il rinnovamento del sistema Data AQuisition (DAQ) di ATLAS. Le principali caratteristiche di questa scheda sono il processore installato (dual-core ARM), la enorme larghezza di banda di comunicazione (fino a 60 Gbps tramite fibre ottiche) e la comunicazione con il PC tramite bus PCIe dedicato di seconda generazione. Durante il mio lavoro di tesi, ho disegnato e sviluppato un sistema di test pensato per valutare i componenti della scheda e una procedura di test automatizzata, controllata da remoto da un programma software, per valutare la qualitá delle connessioni veloci. I test dimostrano che la PiLUP soddisfa tutti i requisiti in termini di affidabilitá della trasmissione dati con alcune precisazioni. Sebbene la PiLUP é stata progettata per soddisfare un compito specifico, é altamente versatile e potrebbe adattarsi a diverse applicazioni: la piú importante é la capacitá di gestire la comunicazione con la scheda principale dell’upgrade DAQ di ATLAS, la Front-End LInk eXchange (FELIX), utilizzando diversi protocolli di comunicazione (GigaBit Transceiver e Full-Mode). Questo é stato il primo passo della collaborazione internazionale con il gruppo FELIX iniziato nel luglio 2017: i laboratori e gli istituti americani, olandesi, italiani, oltre al CERN, sono coinvolti in questa partnership, collaborando a soluzioni di nuove schede di lettura. Infine, un’altra applicazione della PiLUP é di utilizzarla come emulatore di diversi dispositivi, come il nuovo chip di lettura RD53A.
