Abstract:
This chapter discusses recovering shape or structural information from SAXS data. Key to any such process is the ability to generate a calculated intensity from a model, and to compare this curve with the experimental one. Models for the particle scattering density can be approximated as pure homogenenous geometric shapes. More complex particle surfaces can be represented by spherical harmonics or by a set of close-packed beads. Sometimes structural information is known for components of a particle. Rigid body modeling attempts to rotate and translate structures relative to one another, such that the resulting scattering profile calculated from the model agrees with the experimental SAXS data. More advanced hybrid modelling procedures aim to incorporate as much structural information as is available, including modelling protein dynamics. Solutions may not always contain a homogeneous set of particles. A common case is the presence of two or more conformations of a single particle or a mixture of oligomeric species. The method of singular value decomposition can extract scattering for conformationally distinct species.

Abstract:
The principles of upper limb reconstruction are to perform careful wound excision, fix the skeleton, reconstruct vessels, nerves, tendons, and bone as required (either immediate or delayed), and to obtain primary healing of the soft tissues with healthy vascularized tissue. This enables early movement—ideally, supervised by hand therapists—and generally results in a good outcome. In particular, delayed healing and immobility can lead to long-term morbidity. We provide a general overview of the principles of surgical incisions in the hand, wound care, and suturing, and discuss the use of skin grafts and flaps in the upper limb. We describe reconstruction of the different areas of the upper limb, along with detailed sections on digital and thumb reconstruction.

Abstract:
At the end of the war, government officials made an effort to calculate losses along the war zone. Even before all the information had been gathered, they concluded that the Crimean War was much more devastating than any previous conflict, including Napoleon’s invasion of 1812. The largest state aid program undertaken in the Russian empire followed, which nevertheless fell short of regional need. Unable to eke out survival in a hostile and exhausted land, nearly 200,000 Crimean Tatars left their homelands for the Ottoman Empire in one of the single largest mass migrations prior to the First World War. This chapter describes the effects of the war on the area and the steps taken to alleviate the suffering of the Crimean population in the postwar period.

Abstract:
Chapter 7 reveals how Radical Republicans during Reconstruction adopted a new state constitution that disqualified ministers of the gospel from preaching for failure to take a Test Oath professing present and past loyalty to the Union. Northern evangelical church leaders made a declaration of loyalty and a profession that slavery and slaveholding amounted to sin into a litmus test for church membership. Opposition to the Test Oath produced the ruling of the United States Supreme Court in Cummings v. State of Missouri. This decision undercut the Radical redefinition of Protestant faith and citizenship. It also provided the legal grist with which southern evangelicals reclaimed the church lands and buildings that Union soldiers, Radicals, and their northern evangelical allies had seized during the war. High-profile litigation over church property reflected the preferences of partisan judges. These disputes and their judicial outcomes further clouded the boundaries of church and state.
