Abstract:
This article discusses the historical development of bibliotherapy and how books can be used in the treatment of a range of minor mental health conditions. The article provides a brief historical account of how books have been used in institutions through the centuries and how the bibliotherapuetic process works through the use of texts from which the reader gains an insight into their personal situation by identifying with a character experiencing similar problems. Bibliotherapy as both clinical and community-based treatment is discussed through a number of case studies from the critical literature, in particular the Ayrshire Read Yourself Well scheme and the Reading Well/Books on Prescription scheme. The results of a medical trial on the benefits of reading a novel based on MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scans of readers are then discussed.

Abstract:
The relevance of the research is based on more than a year-long restrictions experienced by people of Lithuania and worldwide because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The theoretical part presents a concept for bibliotherapic recommendations for reading. From an interdisciplinary point of view, the research integrates insights from the domains of psychology, public health, information and communication and literary criticism. Individuals experiencing psychological problems, by delving into literature which encourages reflection of humanistic values, during their in-depth reading process, can not only distract themselves from stressful everyday life but also, while identifying themselves with personages of literary works, better conceive themselves and their environment as well as find new ways to solve their problems. This justifies the applicability of bibliotherapy for those who experience social exclusion during the pandemic. The open survey collected data from 17 experts (12 members of the Lithuanian Bibliotherapy Association and 5 practitioners involved in bibliotherapy projects; 4 study participants from the health service sector (psychotherapists); 6 representatives from the education sector; and 7, from the cultural sector). A recommendatory list of books for passive bibliotherapy sessions was drawn. The list comprises 2 topics: (1) recommendations for general bibliotherapy and (2) fiction for health practitioners (81 books in total, 43% of which are accessible online). Every entry in the list includes metadata required for the identification of the work (AUTHOR and title), a brief substantiation of bibliotherapic aspects formulated by experts and the information about the accessibility of the book on the portal ibiblioteka.lt. The list of bibliotherapic literature can be also useful for health practitioners, social activities professionals, organisers of local community activities, librarians and those who wish to provide help by reading.

Abstract:
Today, the library therapy is a promising library service that librarians can offer in the market. Its efficiency depends significantly on the level of library therapy studies. The history of bibliotherapy in Russia and worldwide is reviewed in brief; approaches to bibliotherapy classification and understanding of bibliotherapy as a discipline at the interface of medicine and librarianship are discussed. The most important stages in the development of bibliotherapy as a scientific discipline are presented. Against the historical retrospective, the main areas of modern bibliotherapy are analyzed. The history of the discipline demonstrates that the bibliotherapeutic studies have been within the methodological framework of library science, cultural studies, psychology, and pedagogy. The vectors of bibliotherapeutic process and the goals of applying bibliotherapy are described. The study and determination of the bibliotherapeutic potential of the book is one of the important problems associated with reading for psychotherapeutic purposes. The author emphasizes that the bibliotherapy effectiveness is determined by several factors, i.e. the professional competitiveness of librarian and quality of bibliotherapeutic service with these two working in synergy.

Abstract:
Assessing and addressing spiritual needs is a key factor in the quality of life and overall wellbeing of cancer patients. However, the evolution and diversification of assessment tools has not automatically been followed by their successful implementation; thus, addressing unmet needs continues to be a concern. In this paper, we examine the place of bibliotherapy (also called reading therapy or poetry therapy) as a group intervention in the oncological setting in revealing spiritual needs. We show that it represents not only a useful intervention but may also provide instant relief and reduce spiritual suffering. Bibliotherapy understood and practiced as a subtle balance of texts and group processes alleviates cognitive and emotional symptoms of a spiritual concern and facilitates finding meaning in life in general and illness in particular. As an intervention, it is effective, affordable and attractive; moreover, it equips patients receiving treatment and rehabilitation with the lifelong skill of reflective reading. Bibliotherapy is easily tailored to almost any needs and promotes self-expression, which provides spiritual fulfillment in itself.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the influence of bibliotherapy education on the social-emotional skills of psychological counselling and guidance candidates. The test group of the study consisted of psychological counselling and guidance students who participated voluntarily in the course named “Applied Counselling and Bibliotherapy”. A pre-test and post-test experimental design without a control group was used in the study. The Social Skills Inventory was used, for determining the social skills level of students before and after they are provided with bibliotherapy education. It was concluded from the study that there is a significant difference in the general scores for the social skills of female students after bibliotherapy education and the scores they obtained in the sub-dimensions of social expressivity. With the given reading materials and method of delivery, when the effect of bibliotherapy education on social skills level was compared, it was found in the final test that female students’ scores in the sub-dimensions of emotional expressivity and social control were significantly higher than those of male students. However, it was concluded that male students’ scores in the sub-dimension of emotional control were higher than those of female students.

Abstract:
The healing potential of books has been known since ancient times, while the term “bibliotherapy” was used for the first time in 1916. Since that time, the concept of bibliotherapy has still been developing. The goal of the article is to discover the methods of using bibliotherapy among young monks and students in theological seminaries. The author tries to explain the definition of bibliotherapy through the prism of literature — books written by the biggest Polish figures of this discipline, e.g. Irena Borecka or Wiktor Czernianin. Furthermore, some paragraphs of the text are devoted to the structure of The Holy Bible. The author highlights includes various paragraphs or scenes that might have a healing potential. Finally, the author reveals that the answers given by young monks and students in theological seminaries leads to the clear conclusion that using bibliotherapy among them happens very gently and often inadvertently. The article presents multiple observations when the survey respondents felt better, consoled, or comforted after reading The Holy Bible. The results of the study also point to moments when they experienced katharsis. The text presents their very own observations as extraordinary material for future reference.

Abstract:
Compared with self-help bibliotherapy, little is known about the efficacy of creative bibliotherapy or the mechanisms of its possible efficacy for eating disorders or any other mental health condition. It is clear, however, that fiction is widely used informally as a therapeutic or antitherapeutic tool and that it has considerable potential in both directions, with a possibly significant distinction between the effects of reading fiction about eating disorders (which may—contrary to theoretical predictions—be broadly negative in effect) or one’s preferred genre of other fiction (which may be broadly positive). Research on creative bibliotherapy, especially systematic experimental research, is lacking and requires a medical humanities approach, drawing on knowledge and methods from psychology and cognitive literary studies as well as clinical disciplines to expand our understanding of how the dynamic processes of interpretation mediate between textual structures and characteristics of mental health and illness.

Abstract:
E-Bibliotherapy deals with adolescent psychological stress by manually or automatically recommending multiple reading articles around their stressful events, using electronic devices as a medium. To make E-Bibliotherapy really useful, generating instructive questions before their reading is an important step. Such a question shall (a) attract teens’ attention; (b) convey the essential message of the reading materials so as to improve teens’ active comprehension; and most importantly (c) highlight teens’ stress to enable them to generate emotional resonance and thus willingness to pursue the reading. Therefore in this paper, we propose to generate instructive questions from the multiple recommended articles to guide teens to read. Four solutions based on the neural encoder-decoder model are presented to tackle the task. For model training and testing, we construct a novel large-scale QA dataset named TeenQA, which is specific to adolescent stress. Due to the extensibility of question expressions, we incorporate three groups of automatic evaluation metrics as well as one group of human evaluation metrics to examine the quality of the generated questions. The experimental results show that the proposed Encoder-Decoder with Summary on Contexts with Feature-rich embeddings (ED-SoCF) solution can generate good questions for guiding reading, achieving comparable performance on some semantic similarity metrics with that of humans.

Abstract:
Bibliotherapy is consisted of a combination of the Greek “biblion (book)” and “therapeia (therapy-healing)” which have become popular since the 20th century as one of the alternative therapy methods. It is used to make individuals identify themselves with the works they read through works of high literary and aesthetic value and make them powerful individuals in the spiritual direction by producing solutions to the problems they experience in this way. In other words, bibliotherapy can also be defined as bringing the right books to the individual at the right time. That is, the history of accepting the idea that books are good for man is very old. In this study, the importance of using biographies will be explained in one of the important alternative therapy methods, bibliotherapy. There are some criteria in the selection of books because they are the most important materials that form the basis of bibliotherapy. As it is known, the process is three dimensions as the advisee, book preference and consultant. However, it is not possible to use every work in bibliotherapy. It is important to use the works that are high in reality dimension and keeping a mirror on the problems of the individual in bibliotherapy. This process includes the works that will develop the imaginary world of the individual, as well as the works suitable for real life. As is known, the common point in biographies is not only the success that the person who wrote the biography has achieved, but also this person's struggle for reaching his goal is his patience and perseverance. As a result, in the process of bibliotherapy, reading the biographies that will increase the morale and motivation of the individual and develop self-confidence will contribute positively to the person. Moreover, the preference of the biographies of the positive role-model in the society will be the example for the individual.

It is commonly accepted and expected that gifted students enjoy reading and other forms of creative modes of storytelling. A core principle from bibliotherapy is that students engage in reading when they identify with one or more characters, and challenges and interests like their own. The same principle applies to multicultural literature—when students of color see themselves mirrored in the book, they become more eager to read. This column focuses on the vital need for educators to use multicultural literature with gifted Black girls. Abstract:
This article offers a reading of the “care turn” through Régine Detambel, author and bibliotherapist. In Les Livres prennent soin de nous, she argues not only that literature can serve as therapy for its reader but also that the practice of bibliotherapy might help foster the autonomy both of patients and of literature. Drawing on work in the social sciences on matters of autonomy as it relates to both literature and contemporary therapeutic culture, this reading discusses how the various forms of autonomy that Detambel sets out to uphold, far from harmoniously coinciding, contradict and conflict with one another. Finally, in its conclusion, this essay challenges the notion that the value of literature is best defended through the bibliotherapeutic wedding of literature and therapy.

Abstract:
Self-help psychology books contain claims that they can help individuals solve personal and social problems. However, there is little research on the efficacy of these books although theory and data from traditional, and behavioristic, bibliotherapy suggests that they might be valuable. This study examined the effects of self-help paperbacks on self-actualization scores in a 2 X 3 design that varied presence or absence of a pretest on the Personal Orientation Inventory and an intervening treatment condition which involved reading either one of two self-help books or reading no book. Self-actualization was measured by a posttest on the inventory. Significant effects were found for the pretest and treatment conditions on both the Inner-directedness and Time competence scales. The presence of a pretest, and both self-help books, led to higher self-actualization scores. These findings support the hypothesis that reading self-help psychology books may be associated with increased self-reported scores of mental health.

Abstract:
Background: Depression is an extremely common mental health disorder, with prevalence rates rising. Low-intensity interventions are frequently used to help meet the demand for treatment. Bibliotherapy, for example, is often prescribed via books on prescription schemes (for example ‘Reading Well’ in England) to those with mild to moderate symptomology. Bibliotherapy can effectively reduce symptoms of depression (Naylor et al., 2010). However, the majority of self-help books are based on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), which may not be suitable for all patients. Research supports the use of positive psychology interventions for the reduction of depression symptoms (Bolier et al., 2013) and as such self-help books from this perspective should be empirically tested. Aims: This study aimed to test the efficacy of ‘Positive Psychology for Overcoming Depression’ (Akhtar, 2012), a self-help book for depression that is based on the principles of positive psychology, in comparison with a CBT self-help book that is currently prescribed in England as part of the Reading Well books on prescription scheme. Method: Participants (n = 115) who were not receiving treatment, but had symptoms of depression, read the positive psychology or the CBT self-help book for 8 weeks. Depression and well-being were measured at baseline, post-test and 1-month follow-up. Results: Results suggest that both groups experienced a reduction in depression and an increase in well-being, with no differences noted between the two books. Conclusions: Future directions are discussed in terms of dissemination, to those with mild to moderate symptoms of depression, via books on prescription schemes.

Abstract:
O diálogo posterior à história (a experiência do outro), a socialização (descontração e alegria) e a retomada do texto (recriação) foram considerados exercícios terapêuticos. Concluiu-se que a biblioterapia é um tratamento alternativo e despretensioso em que a fala, na leitura, narração ou dramatização pode agir como uma terapêutica.AbstractThe article presents the problem of language, with a phenomenological approach, as treated by Husserl and Merleau-Ponty. The spoken language is the set of meanings of a language; the speaker language is the transfiguration of these meanings. It is of the speaker speech, the producer of meanings, that bibliotherapy concerns. We report a Reading Therapy Program developed in a public school within the Brazilian Island of Santa Catarina. This program included reading, storytelling and dramatization of fictional texts. It bet on the involvement of students with the playful and poetic literature and gave credit to the therapeutic possibilities. The dialogue after the story (the experience of others), socialization (relaxation and joy) and the resumption of the text were considered therapeutic exercises. It was concluded that bibliotherapy is an alternative and unpretentious treatment in that speech, reading, storytelling or drama can act as a therapy.

Abstract:
Prompted by the attention received in recent years by the collateral benefits of reading and the growing prominence of bibliotherapy in the literary marketplace, this paper aims to investigate the therapeutic effects of books as they emerge from the experience of fictional characters, a perhaps less scientifically sound endeavour than empirical studies and clinical trials targeting real-life readers but one likely to occasion interesting perspectives on reading as a coping mechanism in the face of trauma. By focusing on a variety of reading experiences gleaned from a selection of novels ranging from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein to William Styron’s Sophie’s Choice, Graham Swift’s Waterland, Michael Ondaatje’s The English Patient, Azar Nafisi’s Reading Lolita in Tehran: A Memoir in Books, Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief, Lloyd Jones’ Mister Pip and Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows’ The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society and targeting acts of solitary communion with narrative as well as illicit seminars, informal book clubs and impromptu public readings, the analysis intends to highlight the extent to which literature can provide more than a mere pastime or intellectual challenge to its most vulnerable readers. Whether such benefits entail a sense of community, a temporary shelter from the hardships of war, a reprieve from the abuses of a totalitarian government or sanctuary from the less brutal but nevertheless haunting scars of broken relationships, parental disapproval or social rejection, the ultimate goal is to identify and assess the various survival strategies employed within these fictional universes. Abstract:
AbstractThis paper reviews the extant literature on ways readers make meaning from fairy tales, and proposes a new cognitive model for the response to the traditional fairy tale. Much of the available research on literary responses to fairy tales comes from within the boundaries of psychoanalysis (Bettelheim 1975. The uses of enchantment: The meaning and importance of fairy tales. New York: Vintage; Dieckmann 1986. Twice-told tales: The psychological use of fairy tales. Wilmette: Chiron; Miller 1984. Thou shalt not be aware: Society’s betrayal of the child. New York: Farrar, Straus, Giroux), as well as folklore studies and anthropology (Zipes 1983. Fairy tales and the art of subversion: The classical genre for children and the process of civilization. New York: Wildman Press; Zipes 2006. Why fairy tales stick: The evolution and relevance of a genre. New York: Routledge; Zipes 2012. The irresistible fairy tale: The cultural and social history of a genre. Princeton: Princeton University Press.). Although these fields do not often overlap, the therapeutic potential of fairy tales and relatively recent popularization of practices such as bibliotherapy (Jack and Ronan 2008. Bibliotherapy: Practice and research. School Psychology International 29(2). 161–182) have provided a fertile ground for linking the two disciplines. I propose a cognitive model for the emotionally integrating response to the fairy tale by first introducing Rosenblatt’s (1978. The reader, the text, the poem. Carbondale: Southern Illinois University Press) transactional theory of making meaning from literature, and then in light of this theory, reviewing the psychoanalytic and anthropological evidence for fairy tales’ unique effect on readers. Previous theories explaining the emotional benefits of reading fairy tales have failed to consider characteristics of the genre which are unique to it, and which give fairy tales a hierarchically higher status than other genres due to the distance between the reality they depict, and the current reality of the reader. Transactional theory indicates that this higher status may play a crucial role in the genre’s ability to support healthy emotional development, as readers who establish close personal connections with the hierarchically valorized genre actually become active participants in a reading experience which provides them with comforting, indisputable affirmation of the uprightness of their own moral principles.

AbstractBiblio-therapy, an age-old technique, has recently regained some momentum in diverse settings around the world. This therapeutic-didactic approach posits that one can regain or improve health by reading on a regular basis. Taking this as a point of departure, the idea that significant acts of reading elicit changes in the reader, theorists and active practitioners of bibliotherapy argue that books can improve the well-being of individuals, particularly when it is guided in some way. This paper offers an assessment of concepts and current trends in biblio-therapy as an interdisciplinary practice, along with an exploration of potential paths for further development.

Abstract:
Evaluating how, for whom, and under what conditions psychosocial treatments work is an important component of anxiety disorder treatment development. Yet, research regarding mediators and moderators of self-help interventions is sparse. The current project is a secondary analysis of mediators, moderators, and correlates of outcome of a randomized wait-list-controlled trial assessing acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) self-help bibliotherapy for anxiety and related problems. Participants ( n = 503) were randomized to an immediate workbook ( n = 256) or wait-list condition ( n = 247). Nonparametric bootstrapped mediation analyses showed that pre–post positive changes in ACT treatment processes accounted for the relation between treatment and pre–post improvement on the primary outcomes of anxiety symptoms, depressive symptoms, and quality of life. Results indicated no baseline variables were significant moderators. Finally, hierarchical regression analyses indicated that the degree of improvement for each primary outcome was positively correlated with the degree to which participants reported applying the workbook material to their day-to-day life, over and above how much of the book they reported reading. This study provided support for the ACT model of change in a self-help context and highlighted the importance of actively applying self-help material, addressing theoretical and practical questions about how and why ACT self-help works.

Abstract:
An epidemic of an infectious disease such as COVID-19 is often a source of emotional distress, even among those who have not been directly exposed to the disease. The period following the acute phase of the coronavirus epidemic and the mitigation measures will likely be hardest for medical professionals in terms of psychological impact. Bibliotherapy is a systematic intervention regarding the use of carefully selected reading materials in order to help persons to cope with stress and personal problems. This therapy can be used easily during the pandemic. The review of evidence shows that this kind of intervention can be helpful in educational and clinical contexts. During the crisis, it can be an alternative to video and film entertainment and a transition from serious medical journal clubs to a softer medical humanities experience. In this article, we summarized the historical background of bibliotherapy. We also proposed a reading list from different times, and cultures relating to pandemic, quarantine, symptoms, confinement, and social impacts (e.g., Camus, Moravia, London, Le Clezio etc.). Bibliotherapy can be a way for doctors and healthcare workers fighting on the frontline of the pandemic to find psychological support and for debriefing. Bibliotherapy can help individuals that need support for emotional distress during the pandemic to verbalize their feelings and emotions and identify new ways of addressing problems.

Abstract:
Instructional design of hypnosis-based reading interest guidance is the development of guidance material of reading interest that previously has been created by Perpustakaan Nasional Indonesia (National Library of Indonesia) for the training of Calon Pustakawan Tenaga Ahli (CPTA) or Expert Librarian Candidate. The development of learning design that combines theory and practice is absolutely needed. Moreover, the result of class survey signifies that only 10% of CPTA training participants are interested in reading. This instructional design employs MINERVA model since it aims to result instructional system directing to the formation of CPTA employability skill. The skill in bibliotherapy for CPTA in a college to guide reading interest is required, especially to boost the motivation and learning capacity of civitas academica, specifically librarian who experience stress symptom due to final project. The skill in bibliotherapy requires provision in effective reading capacity and efficient reading comprehension. Through the learning of hypnosis-based reading interest guidance, firstly CPTA participants can reflect the level of reading awareness, secondly be the support of bibliotherapy program in college library, and thirdly boost mental awareness. Librarian is not only limited to administrative service, but also it has role as vanguard in mental literacy service through bibliotherapy.

Abstract:
Bibliotherapy is the act of reading a book to aid a mental illness. Although bibliotherapy is commonly practiced in a controlled study, it should be expanded and implemented into public libraries in a way that the public can take bibliotherapy into their own hands. In this paper, bibliotherapy’s effectiveness is looked at through both psychology tests, and online public opinion. Also, its execution in public libraries is discussed, and better ways to implement bibliotherapy are suggested through articles. Overall, public libraries can take an active role in their community’s mental health by providing them tools in the way of books to allow them to explore, understand, and potentially better their emotions or actions.

Reading on tablets, for example, could prove counter-productive for obtaining a state of absorption and thus modern-day tablet-readers may miss out on potential health benefits that absorbed reading of literature might provide. On the other hand, the connection that tablets provide to online reader communities and thus online bibliotherapeutic resources, might prove even more beneficial than obtaining a state of absorption during reading.

Abstract:
Background: A non-pharmaceutical treatment offered as psychological support is bibliotherapy, which can be described as the process of reading, reflecting, and discussing literature to further a cognitive shift. The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic demands a response to prevent a peak in the prevalence of mental health problems and to avoid the collapse of mental health services, which are scarce and inaccessible due to the pandemic. Thus, this study aimed to review articles on the effectiveness of bibliotherapy on different mental health problems. Methods: A systematic review was conducted to examine relevant studies that assess the effectiveness of bibliotherapy in different clinical settings as a treatment capable of enhancing a sense of purpose and its surrounding values. To achieve this, a systematic review, including a bioethical meta-analysis, was performed. A variant of the PICO (Participants, Intervention, Comparison, and Outcome) model was used for the search strategy, and the systematic review was conducted in three databases: PubMed, Bireme, and OVID. Inclusion criteria were relevant studies that included the keywords, excluding documents with irrelevant topics, studies on subjects 15 years or younger, and in languages besides Spanish or English. Starting with 707 studies, after three rounds of different quality criteria, 13 articles were selected for analysis, including a hermeneutic analysis, which was followed by a fourth and final recovery round assessing bibliotherapy articles concerning healthcare workers. Results: Our findings showed that through bibliotherapy, patients developed several capacities, including the re-signification of their own activities through a new outlook of their moral horizon. There are no research road maps serving as guides to conduct research on the use of bibliotherapy to enhance mental health. Additionally, values such as autonomy and justice were closely linked with positive results in bibliotherapy. This implies that bibliotherapy has the potential to have a positive impact in different settings. Conclusions: Our contribution is to offer a road map that presents state-of-the-art bibliotherapy research, which will assist institutions and healthcare professionals to plan clinical and specific interventions with positive outcomes.

Bibliotherapy, the therapeutic use of reading, was introduced to the U.S Military in World War II by the Council on Books in Wartime, a non-profit organization who sent millions of books to deployed servicemen. Since its effectiveness was never examined, the military’s use of bibliotherapy ended with the war. Therefore, this study focused on analyzing the effect of the Council on Books in Wartime's book contributions upon homesickness and stress in deployed servicemen in WWII. The findings would evaluate the effectiveness of reading as a tool to mitigate homesickness and stress, two factors which heavily impact the mental wellbeing of deployed servicemen and women. To conduct this study, a retrospective correlational case study was conducted on a sample of eight WWII veterans, two of which reported reading while six reported never reading during their service. Each veteran was interviewed with questions derived from the Utrecht Homesickness Scale and the Perceived Stress Scale to quantify the change between both variables after reading. The data was disaggregated for those who did read and those who did not and further disaggregated into early-deployment and late deployment (or pre-reading and post-reading). After conducting the interviews, it was found that the difference between the change in both groups (those who did read and those who did not) was statistically significant for both homesickness and stress. Although there are a number of limitations to the results of this study, the data does suggest that there is a negative correlation between reading and homesickness and stress.

Abstract:
This article presents bibliotherapy, its roots and therapeutic indications. It can be used by anyone who needs support. Book therapy is one of the little-known but indispensable methods of therapy. A method known for a long time and bringing significant results in the hands of an experienced bibliotherapist. In therapy, he does not need expensive equipment, but only properly selected literature. Reading develops aesthetic sensitivity, shapes imagination and creative attitude, affects intellectual development, which allows you to open to the values that the book brings. The literature provides information about the outside world, social acceptance, and behavioral patterns. Book therapy develops emotionally. We experience the fate of the characters, we identify with them, which satisfies the needs of behavioral patterns and a sense of social bond. Regardless of age, bibliotherapy increases the reader’s moral sensitivity. Jakubowicz et al. emphasize the benefits of reading books. The level of speech development is increasing, the vocabulary, thinking, expanding news about the world, about our own country, teaching us about society, cultures and history. Book therapy adds strength and enthusiasm to overcome difficulties. It makes you think about what is right and what is not, what is good and what is bad.

Abstract:
Bibliotherapy is a new phenomenon of the present, the study of which involves theorists from the library science, pedagogy, psychology, social sphere as well. This non-traditional method of therapeutic influence on the patient is gaining popularity also because, due to difficult situation in the eastern Ukraine, when the parents with children are forced to leave their own home and to move to a new territory of residence, a new, vulnerable social category of the population has appeared – the children and teens moved from the ATO zone. In order to rehabilitate and normalize the process of their adaptation in the new social environment, it is necessary to use the full range of therapeutic methods of impact on mind, one of which may be bibliotherapy. The article deals with development of bibliotherapy for children and adolescents in Ukraine and abroad. Three essential components are considered for effective implementation of biblical therapy process with children and adolescents in the children’s library: librarian-bibliotherapeutic, reader-patient, bibliotherapeutic room or space. It is proposed to create a division of librarians-bibliotherapists in libraries for children into two groups: professional bibliotherapists and professional counselors. During the bibliotherapeutic course, a special attention should be paid to creating a pleasant therapeutic atmosphere, to approach professionally to all stages of bibliotherapy, to find time for personal acquaintance with the latest scientific discoveries in bibliotherapy, to monitor professional periodicals. A conclusion is drawn about the importance of interaction of the librarian-bibliotherapeutic with the reader/patient. When choosing the books for the biblio- therapy process with children and adolescents one should give preference to small genre forms, the children need to be interested in reading and not lose credible relationships during the bibliotherapy process. The recommendations for designing a biblio-therapeutic cabinet/space in the library for children are developed. It is important to pay attention to the basic principles of organizing bibliotherapeutic space: furniture, a scale of colours, lighting, houseplants, rational use of cabinet space dividing it to such zones as individual and group therapy zone, official place of bibliotherapeutic, free zone, game zone and multimedia zone.
