The objective of this study was to investigate the social representations of students from the Tecnologia em Gest?o Ambiental do Instituto Federal Goiano ? Campus Uruta?, on concepts related to the Cerrado and what is its importance to the environment in general and contrast the speech of these representations with scientific knowledge, considering that this biome has become the main alternative for expanding agriculture and cattle raising frontier in Brasil, because it has a mainly flat with ease to the possibility of mechanization and irrigation water availability in the region. The research is a qualitative approach, where we designed a semistructured questionnaire with questions related to the Cerrado and their forms of preservation. The methodology is based on analysis of the collective subject discourse (DSC) according to Moscovici's theory of social representations. The target audience were nineteen students from the sixth grade of the second half of 2010 and twenty-two students from the first grade of the first half of 2011, of the Course Tecnologia em Gest?o Ambiental of the Instituto Federal Goiano ? Campus Uruta?, to make a comparison of students when they start the course and when they finish, watching if the students in the DSC of the sixth period, there have been advances in scientific knowledge regarding the Cerrado, when compared with the DSC students of the first period. Participation in the survey was voluntary, and participants had to submit a term of informed consent, because it is a study in humans, according to the National Council of Ethics. The results found that the DSCs was both the first and sixth periods are very similar, and the cerrado objectification appears with the presentation of the State of Goi?s, suggest agriculture and cattle raising as the best option for investment in productive arrangements for the cerrado, and still, emphasize the richness of biodiversity in the Cerrado. But the responses of students in the sixth period had more coherent texts in relation to scientific knowledge, proving that there was increase in knowledge, some even suggesting alternatives to mitigate the conflict between agriculture and cattle raising production and environmental conservation
Full textThe proposal of the present work is the presentation of a case study of fund raising with alumni from two Brazilian Higher Education Institutions, the FGV-EAESP and the Mackenzie; analyzed through the lens of relationship marketing. The referenced presentation resulted from the practical experience of these two institutions, making it possible to prove the importance of the relationship of these institutions to their alumni, representing much more than a source of sustainability. It signifies the continuity of the institutions, since the main purpose of the relationship is to keep strong the bonds of the alumni with their alma mater. For that, interviews with the leaders and fundraisers of the two institutions have been performed, with the intention to elucidate how the fundraising process with the alumni started, the techniques of making solicitations, and the results. The problem of the research follows from the question: how can relationship marketing contribute to fundraising with alumni of these institutions? Starting from the analysis of the fund raising developed by the two institutions with their alumni, it arrives at the central point of work, which is the analysis of the influence and the interposition of the relationship in relation to the results obtained from the fund raising. The approach of Relationship Marketing is appropriated to fund raising in non profit institutions and its relevance is essential in this research to understand the cases described and explain the successes realized. It is concluded that the tools of relationship marketing have been partially applied in the two institutions and resulted in success in fund raising, as can be confirmed in the respective financial results. The most important aspect is the commitment to keeping the relationship, by means of communication, information technology, and involvement. However, the alternation of power in the governing body of both institutions interrupts the leadership of fund raising, a fundamental factor for the success of this type of action with alumni. Without the maintenance and the continuity of the relationship with the alumni, the fund raising sector loses position in strategic planning, becoming weakened or completely abandoned
Silva, Adriana Henriques. "NIHSS underestimates right hemisphere stroke injury : raising an old issue with a new cognitive approach." Master's thesis, 2021. http://hdl.handle.net/10451/51150.
Background: The National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) is a widely used tool for quantification of stroke severity. However, prior studies suggest that this scale does not equitably assess the 2 hemispheres, reporting that the volume of right hemisphere (RH) lesions is underestimated. This is probably due to the fact that NIHSS attributes 2 points for neglect and 7 for language. While empirical assessment could suggest better functional outcomes for patients with neglect than for those with aphasia, some authors have reported that neglect is associated with worse functional outcomes. Objectives: The aims were: a) to compare the correlations between the lesion volume of RH stroke and the NIHSS score from patients with neglect and without neglect and b) to study if a modification of the neglect scoring rules would increase the predictive capacity of the lesion volume. Methods: Patients with right middle cerebral artery ischemic stroke were divided in two groups: patients with neglect and patients without neglect at admission. We correlated NIHSS scores and lesion volume in both groups and calculated the partial correlation between lesion volume, NIHSS and the variable group. Finally, we applied different modifications in the neglect scoring rules and repeated the statistical analysis. Results: The correlation between lesion volume and NIHSS was lower in patients with neglect and neglect was a statistically significant covariate in the partial correlation analysis between NIHSS and lesion volume. With the neglect score tripled and with the sum of all neglect modalities doubled and tripled, the correlation between lesion volume and NIHSS was significantly higher than the correlation with the standard NIHSS and the partial correlation between lesion volume and the variable group, controlling for NIHSS, became no longer a statistically significant factor.
Moreira, Catarina Gomes.
The current training report comes up in the field of a Master’s Degree in Education, in the area of a specialization in Adult Education and Communitarian Intervention. This professional training took place at M.P.V. Institute, aiming at promoting, sensitizing and developing chain partnerships with public or private entities and individual’s from the Póvoa community to constantly carry out the mission and goals of this institution. The Portuguese society still undergoes economic disparities, which generates situations of social and economic vulnerability in many families’ life. The M.P.V. Institute’s job is to fulfill those needs through the support in children and young people’s education and formation, from the 3 (three) years old to the conclusion of compulsory schooling, and other aspects of first need such as food and hygiene. To achieve this job and these goals it is necessary to raise funds and goods that make them possible, since the subsidies provided by the Portuguese government are not enough to face the monthly expenses and commitments. Besides, the monthly value paid by each child or young person is trifling, being merely of a responsible nature. For that reason the M.P.V. Institute needs to resort to initiatives that may generate funds and appeal to public and private entities, asking for contributions and donations. Therefore, to make the local community aware of this premise, the project was developed in an investigation-action plan, related to the areas of Adult Education and Communitarian Intervention, through activities according to the needs and difficulties of the M.P.V.I., so that these could be minimized and allow a major action towards an inclusive society.
Ramroop, Navitha. "A study of selected information technology systems on potential business units within departments in the M L Sultan Campus of the Durban Institute of Technology (DIT)." Thesis, 2003. http://hdl.handle.net/10321/1843.
Full textOver the last decade computer technology has impacted tremendously on the survival and productivity of organisations. In today's technologically advanced business environment, much emphasis is being placed on obtaining a competitive advantage through the use of computers - a commodity that has become available to almost everyone in an organisation. Increasing global competition and pressing social needs have impacted with such vigo~ that even tertiary institutions are now facing major financial constraints, thus forcing them to investigate alternative sources of income to maintain sustainability. Through the use of computer technology - searching, retrieving, sorting, producing and organising data efficiently and accurately - the belief is that many departments at the M L Sultan Campus of the Durban Institute of Technology can be converted into income-generating units that can be self-sustaining. There are many departments at the M L Sultan Campus with the relevant infrastructure and person-power to establish business units. These departments vary in the services that they provide, thus relevant information systems need to be aligned to future business units within these departments. This study focuses on a) investigating the impact of information technology and its systems on businesses; b) ensuring that information technology and its systems is looked at a~ a cost effective resource for maintaining a competitive edge and promoting business value. The interaction of business processes, people and technology will ensure successful planning and implementation of strategies within the potential business units; and c) recommending to selected departments the expected fmdings whereby they could choose to adopt these recommendations to transform themselves into business units in order to maintain a competitive edge for financial sustainability.
