Abstract:

- What are the personal determinants of political success? What capacities are needed to actively contribute to the functioning of democracy? What motives, beliefs, habits may predispose toward effective participation of citizens and successful political activity of elected officials? In accordance with Social Cognitive Theory, the following paper presents the results of a research project that places personal self-efficacy beliefs at the basis of political commitment and participation. The same efficacy beliefs have been shown to play a key mediational role between personality traits, basic values, and political participation. In addition, the practical implications of these findings with respect to the selection of political personnel is highlighted.Key words: politics, participation, self-efficacy, values, motives, mediation

Abstract:
Abstract In this paper, we will give a general introduction to the Ali CMB Polarization Telescope (AliCPT) project, which is a Sino–US joint project led by the Institute of High Energy Physics and involves many different institutes in China. It is the first ground-based Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) polarization experiment in China and an integral part of China's Gravitational-wave Program. The main scientific goal of the AliCPT project is to probe the primordial gravitational waves (PGWs) originating from the very early Universe. The AliCPT project includes two stages. The first stage, referred to as AliCPT-1, is to build a telescope in the Ali region of Tibet at an altitude of 5250 meters. Once completed, it will be the highest ground-based CMB observatory in the world and will open a new window for probing PGWs in the northern hemisphere. The AliCPT-1 telescope is designed to have about 7000 transition-edge sensor detectors at 95 GHz and 150 GHz. The second stage is to have a more sensitive telescope (AliCPT-2) with more than 20 000 detectors. Our simulations show that AliCPT will improve the current constraint on the tensor-to-scalar ratio r by one order of magnitude with three years' observation. Besides the PGWs, AliCPT will also enable a precise measurement of the CMB rotation angle and provide a precise test of the CPT symmetry. We show that three years' observation will improve the current limit by two orders of magnitude.

Abstract:
AbstractLeading twentieth-century Iranian public intellectual Ali Shariati has been described by some as a proponent of a project of nativism and cultural authenticity. This article offers an alternative reading of Shariati, one that highlights the germination of his thought in a process of constant oscillation between particular historical-sociopolitical attachments and a decidedly cosmopolitan intellectual horizon. This oscillation, it is argued, while born out of the core-periphery dynamics of commodity and knowledge production within a colonially constructed world order, nevertheless allows Shariati to transcend postcolonial anxieties and nativist traps even as he calls on his fellow Iranian and Muslim intellectuals to attend to resources within the local culture and to delink from Eurocentric and colonially globalized knowledge regimes. In order to place his thought within the broader framework of the emergence and evolution of anti- and decolonial thought, Saffari reads Shariati in dialogue with some of the leading twentieth- and twenty-first-century critics of colonial modernity: Muhammad Iqbal, Frantz Fanon, Enrique Dussel, and Walter D. Mignolo. Saffari argues that the oscillation between local attachments and cosmopolitan vistas in Shariati's work is best understood as a function of his cosmopolitan localism.

Abstract:
AbstractAs the Second World War unfolded and became global, intellectuals of various backgrounds turned their minds to the problems of peace. Internal persecution bred external aggression, some believed. States had to be tamed. Such reasoning led the American Law Institute (ALI) to try to draft a globally acceptable bill of rights. Although originating in the USA, the project was essentially a transnational one. The ‘Statement of essential human rights’ became the most elaborate code created up to that point, in both scope and detail. Completed in the early winter of 1944, it was promoted by the Panamanian delegation to the 1945 San Francisco Conference, and used extensively by the UN Commission on Human Rights. Refuting suggestions that human rights originated in the 1970s, the ALI project reveals the great depth of the transnational conversation on human rights during the early 1940s, and even before.

Abstract:
Although the Arab region and the Islamic world witnessed a number of Islamic political experiences that played ‎a prominent role in the historical paths of this vast geography, the Almohad political experience remains the ‎most important distinguished political projects that emerged in the Islamic Maghreb region, as it played an ‎active role in the map of balances at the regional and international levels. This experiment was launched as a ‎religious reform movement led by Muhammad bin Tumart, who believed that a serious political project could ‎not be established in the region without launching a process of broad religious reform due to a reality that was ‎overshadowed by ignorance of religion, and in which myths and deviations spread. Indeed, Ibn Tumart was ‎able to lay the foundations for this reform movement, to later develop and turn into a political movement, ‎which was then able, thanks to Abdel-Moumen bin Ali, to overthrow the Almoravid state and to transfer the ‎Almohad political project from the narrow concept of the group to the broad concept of the state. Therefore, ‎regardless of the accusations that Ibn Tumart was accused of regarding his claim of Mahdism and the ‎fabrication of false prophetic hadiths, the experience of his movement remains a different one, worthy of study ‎and standing on its most important intellectual and political characteristics and advantages. The Almohad ‎political project was a strategic choice that affected the nature of balances and the geopolitical and strategic ‎map of the Islamic West region, which was characterized by intertwining and overlapping during the medieval ‎period. From this logic, we will, in this research, study the political project from the foundation stage in the era of ‎Ibn Tumart to the date of the death of his successor, Abd al-Mumin ibn Ali in the year 558 AH.‎‏ ‏‎ We will discuss ‎this research in three main topics: First, the formation of the Almohad political project and the features of the ‎first founding phase / secondly the death of Ibn Tumart and the features of the second founding phase with ‎Abdul Mumin bin Ali / Thirdly, the end of the Almoravids and the third founding phase of the Almohad project ‎in the era of the believer‎.

Abstract:
At present, many children live or risk to live a condition of educational poverty and, therefore, they do not enjoyappropriate opportunities for growth, education, and instruction. In order to respond to this problem, some significant actions are promoted in Italy, such as the one realized by “Ali per il Futuro”: an experimental Project to fight educational poverty that is making a concrete contribution to the social inclusion of children and their parents in some Italian Regions: namely, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, Puglia, and Valle d’Aosta. The paper aims to analyze the experience of “Ali per il Futuro”, in particular in Tuscany, illustrating and reflecting about the role that “Arca” Cooperativa Sociale, one of the Project partners, has played in the inclusion, accompaniment and support of the families involved. From this experience, it emerges how the personalization of a family Project, the interdisciplinary approach between different professionalisms, the strong connection to the territorial network and the presence of educational services able to offer diversified and flexible responses represent a possible model of intervention and a good practice in the fight against educational poverty and in the social inclusion of families.

Abstract:
This research aims to obtain an overview of the concept of Islamic liberation theology according to Asghar Ali Enginer. The method used in this research is a descriptive library research method, which means that researchers examine the results of the literature in the form of book studies or recent journals regarding the concept of Islamic liberation theology by Asghar Ali Enginer, the findings of which researchers examine or explore, then describe in a scientific article study. The findings obtained by researchers regarding the concept are that Asghar Ali Enginer is a da'i, human rights activist, social activist, teacher, and writer. At least, there are three major problems that concern Asghar Ali Enginer in realizing the project of revitalizing Islamic liberation theology, namely the problem of human equality, the problem of gender injustice, the problem of economic inequality. The main concept of Enginer's idea is to humanize human beings. Responsibility or concern among humans to look right - left, care for the environment or the surrounding area, lend a hand to those in need and avoid being greedy / greedy for wealth so that a peaceful and prosperous society can be created.

Abstract This paper is aimed at achieving a better understanding of the original state before the restoration project in 1931 and the current structural state of the great Mosque of Mohamed Ali in citadel Cairo, Egypt. A 3-D finite element model for the whole Mosque was constructed for these purposes. Elastic analysis under static and lateral earthquake loads was conducted to verify the efficiency of the main covering domes restoration project in 1931 and to specify the positions of the critical stresses. The accurate and detailed information that was collected during the restoration project in 1931 concerning the structure of the Mosque was used as database for identifying the geometrical and structural properties of the model. The results provide insight to the structural behavior of the Mosque and the current state of stresses. The study also verifies the main causes for the valuable restoration project in 1931, where the stone domes and semi-domes covering the Mosque were replaced by reinforced concrete one . Also, the places of the Mosque that need more sophisticated analysis could be identified.

The Authors instructed the students about software and team-working and supported them along the research. After being checked, all the historical and geographic data have been uploaded on a Google Tour Builder to create a sequence of historical checkpoints. Each checkpoint has texts, pictures and videos that connect the tour-users to 1914. Moreover, GeoSNaV Lab researchers produced a KML (Keyhole Markup Language) file, formed by several polylines and points, representing the itinerary of the funeral procession that has been superimposed on ad-hoc georeferenced historical maps. This tour, freely available online, starts with the arrival of the royals, on June 28th 1914, and follows the couple along the events, from the assassination to the burial in Arstetten (Austria), including their passages through Trieste (Italy), Ljubljana (Slovenia), Graz and Wien (Austria).

Abstract:
AbstractThe American Law Institute’s Third Restatement of Torts was initially conceived as a series of separate projects, each with its own reporters. From 1998 through 2010, the ALI completed and published three different segments: Products Liability, Apportionment of Liability, and Liability for Physical and Emotional Harm. Initially, the ALI did not intend to restate the intentional torts, believing that the Second Restatement’s treatment of these torts was clear and largely authoritative. It was ultimately persuaded that there were numerous unresolved issues that needed to be addressed. As a result, it authorized a new project on Intentional Torts—a project that is currently ongoing. Rather than applaud or critique the specific choice the reporters are making, I have chosen to discuss two broader concerns regarding the project. The first concern is that the piecemeal nature of assembling all the separate projects of the Third Restatement of Torts (including the review and adoption of different sections within Intentional Torts) has made the Intentional Torts reporters’ task more difficult than it should have been and may contribute to an overall product that is flawed in important respects, primarily because of inconsistencies that cannot easily be corrected. The second concern is that the Intentional Torts reporters have too often lost sight of the conceptual distinctions between intentional and nonintentional torts. Although I agree that these conceptual distinctions should not have driven the basic organization of the project, as was once suggested, I argue that the reporters are making doctrinal decisions that further blur, rather than clarify, the boundaries between the intentional torts and other torts, primarily negligence.

Abstract:
V prispevku namenjamo posebno pozornost pravilnemu dojemanju temeljnega poslanstva SV, premagovanju zapuščine obvezniške vojske, razumevanju omejitev poklicne vojske, profesionalizaciji v pogojih finančnih omejitev, profesionalni integriteti pripadnikov SV, profesionalizaciji in obvladovanju interesnih nasprotij, zunanjemu in notranjemu nadzoru vojaške profesije, profesionalizaciji prek stalnega izobraževanja ter profesionalizaciji kot nikoli zares končanem procesu. V tem kontekstu moramo na področju profesionalizacije poklicne SV ohraniti ustrezno čuječnost in zavzetost, preden se na nekatere nedoslednosti in nepravilnosti, na katere opozarja prispevek, dokončno navadimo oziroma ohranimo nadzor nad nekaterimi do zdaj manj uspešnimi vidiki tega procesa in njihovimi posledicami. The project »Transition to Professional Armed Forces Complemented with Contractual Reserve« (PROVOJ) was launched in 2003 and concluded premature- ly in 2007. Has thus the mission of Slovenian Armed Forces (SAF) professionali- zation been completed? We estimate that SAF professionalization is far from being complete. The path from career to truly professional Slovenian Armed Forces will certainly not be short and easy, but rather time consuming, winding, steep, slippery and full of traps and challenges. In the article, special attention is devoted to a proper understanding of the basic SAF mission, the overcoming of the conscription system heritage, understanding of professional armed forces restrictions, professionaliza- tion in austerity conditions, professional integrity of SAF members, professionali- zation and management of conflicts of interests, internal and external control of the profession of arms, professionalization through continuous training and professio- nalization as a never-really-completed process. In this context, a proper amount of vigilance and commitment should be preserved in the professionalization of career armed forces, before we completely adapt to certain inconsistencies and irregulariti- es underscored in this article and not to preserve the same level of control over some hitherto less successful aspects of this process and their consequences.

Abstract:
Abstract In this article digital artist and filmmaker Iqbal Barkat discusses his new work Terrorist/Apostate, a multi-arts project, with scholars Katie Lavers and Jon Burtt. Terrorist/Apostate is based on the lived experience of his collaborator, Lebanese Australian actor Fadi Alameddin. It explores the tensions that arise as the central character begins to question his faith and his identity as a Muslim in Western Sydney. Barkat discusses how the play is informed by the critical discourse between different, often polarized, readings of Islam across a wide range of media. In particular he suggests that contemporary discussions of Islam by Muslim writers including feminists, humanitarians, LBGTI community members, and religious scholars reveal a more complex and nuanced idea of Islam than the reductive 'popular critiques' presented by many western commentators, and that authors such as Tariq Ali, Fatema Mernissi, and Nawal El Saadawi engage with the notion that there never has been a single idea of what constitutes Islam, but rather 'a plurality of Islams'. Through a wide-ranging open-ended interview process Barkat discusses this critical discourse about contemporary Islam in the context of this important new theatre work.

Through Mohamed Ali Fadlabi and Lars Cuzner’s processual art project European Attraction Limited, I learned that there was a human zoo at a jubilee exhibition in the capital city of Norway around 100 years ago. This human zoo was set up as a “Congolese village” including 20 “primitive” huts built of reeds covered with palm leaves. Within the “village”, 80 presumably Congolese children, women, and men were performing “authentic African life” as a partly entertaining display to spectators. In the article, I explore what emerges when encountering this project, not as an art critique but as an educational researcher in Norway interested in race and racialization and how to invent different ways of creating more livable worlds.

Abstract:
Abstract Epidemiological studies have shown that desert dust exposure affects respiratory health. We aimed to investigate the NLRP3 inflammasome-caspase-1 pathway-dependent inflammatory properties of Saharan dust (SD) in a macrophage model and an air-liquid interface (ALI) co-culture model of the alveolar epithelium. Under submerged conditions wild-type (WT) and NLRP3-/- THP-1 cells were exposed to SD at 50 µg/cm². Using a Vitrocell® Cloud, A549/THP-1 WT ALI co-cultures were exposed to SD or DQ12 quartz at non-cytotoxic concentrations of 10, 20, and 30 µg/cm². Additionally, ALI co-cultures containing NLRP3-/- or CASPASE1/- THP-1 cells were exposed to SD. SD was found to contain endotoxin, and caused manifold higher interleukin (IL)-1β secretion in WT than in NLRP3/- THP-1 cells. Baked SD (220°C, overnight) induced IL-1β secretion to a ~4-fold lower extent. Co-exposure to baked SD and endotoxin synergistically restored the IL-1β secretion. In ALI co-cultures SD but not DQ12 upregulated the expression and secretion of IL-1β, IL-6, IL-8, and tumor necrosis factor α. The secretion of these cytokines was strongly decreased in co-cultures with CASPASE1/- or NLRP3/- THP-1 cells. The screening of multiple SD samples on WT THP-1 cells revealed that their inflammatory potencies strongly depended on the sampling day and location. The surprisingly strong SD-mediated activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome emphasizes its hazardousness and the need for risk mitigation strategies. Therefore, the connection between the toxicity of SD and its composition, especially its microbial components, needs to be further unraveled.

Abstract:
The present paper considers the possible sense of “nonsensical” caring—caring (1) which for various reasons apparently cannot help the cared-for, and (2) in which the carer, though convinced that it will not be effective, whole-heartedly engages. The project is inspired by the fiction of Ali Smith, which offers varied, vivid and memorable examples of such caring: worried that her dead sister misses life experience, Clare in Hotel World makes sure her sensations are doubly intense and rich though she knows her sister, being dead, will not benefit from them; in Summer Hannah and Daniel write to each other tender letters which they immediately burn for safety’s sake so that the addressee has not even the slightest chance of ever reading them; in “Virtual” a bed-ridden girl diligently takes care of her virtual pet, well aware that it is not alive, let alone sentient. Smith’s examples of “nonsensical” caring are strangely compelling, yet in real life such caring—predictably ineffective (as regards helping the other) and costly—is rare. Why? Under what metaphysical assumptions, if any, could “nonsensical” caring make sense? The paper considers these questions, taking Søren Kierkegaard’s extensive discussion of agape love in Works of Love (1847) as its primary point of reference.

Abstract HinOTORI is a new telescope supported by an international collaboration project between China and Japan. It is a 50 centimeter telescope equipped with simultaneous three-color imagers (u', R C, and I C bands). It is located at Ali Observatory at an altitude of 5100m. Thanks to the high altitude and extreme dryness, Ali site is one of the most suitable sites for optical astrometry. HinOTORI telescope aims at detecting optical transients such as the counterparts of gravitational wave (GW) sources, supernovae, gamma-ray bursts (GRB) and so on. This paper describes the site information, design of simultaneous three-color optical layout, system instruments and whole control system. We also report some telescope characterisations for three bands (u'/R C/I C) respectively, such as Hartmann constant (0.49”/0.56”/0.60”), best focus position (3.922/3.920/3.903 mm), PSF FWHM size (3.755/3.328/3.167pixels), total transmittance and limiting magnitude (15.69/17.57/17.05mag, 10 σ 30 seconds exposure time). With different airmass observation data, the atmospheric extinction coefficients of three bands (0.366/0.061/0.026) were also derived.

Abstract:
The American Law Institute (ALI) has recently embarked on the project of elaborating a new Restatement of Conflict of Laws. Its first two Restatements on this subject have been enormously influential. The Ali began its work on the First Restatement in 1923, naming Joseph Beale of the Harvard Law School as its Reporter. Adopted in 1934, the First Restatement reflected the highly territorialist approach to the conflict of laws that had long prevailed in this country. Even before the First Restatement’s adoption, the First Restatement’s territorialist approach, and the “vested rights” theory on which it was based, was subjected to intense scholarly criticism. Nevertheless, the First Restatement’s approach continued to prevail in the United States until the New York Court of Appeals initiated a “choice-of-law revolution” in the early 1960’s with its decision inBabcock v. Jackson. Although most states have departed from the First Restatement’s approach, the First Restatement retains its adherents. Ten states continue to follow the First Restatement for tort cases and twelve states for contract cases.

Abstract:
Abstract This essay frames Ali Smith’s novel Girl meets boy (2007) as a ‘queer translation’ of Ovid, Metamorphoses 9.666-797. I argue that Smith’s presentation of a contemporary genderqueer Iphis and Ianthe not only fictionalizes the critical argument proposed by Judith Butler’s Gender Trouble, but uses Gender Trouble as a queer translation manifesto. Reading Girl meets boy through this Butlerian lens, which foregrounds multiplicity and insists on the politically subversive potential of repetition, I show how Smith translates, re-translates, and re-writes Ovid’s text, to make queer identities that are made to disappear in the Latin ‘loosed’ in translation. I also propose a new reading of the conclusion of Ovid’s episode informed by Smith’s queer translation. I discuss Smith’s politicized use of repetition throughout the novel to produce queer translations which disrupt the surface homophobic discourse of the original text; and I situate the novel’s publication within its historical political context — before the legalization of same-sex marriage in England, Wales, and Scotland. In conclusion, I argue that a queer translation practice, as evidenced by Smith’s novel, is an activist project which combats homophobic discourse (ancient and modern) and allows ancient queer bodies and identities to retain their multiplicity in translation.

(1806: 1081) by Chakrabarty & Gangopadhyay (1996: 609). However, when these taxa were recently transferred to Vachellia they were treated as distinct species, namely, V. hydaspica (J.R.Drumm ex R.Parker) Ali (Jan. 2014: 3; this same combination was also made by Ragupathy et. al. in March 2014: 176), V. pseudoeburnea (J.R.Drumm. ex Dunn) Ragupathy et al. (2014: 177) and V. eburnea (L.f.) Hurter & Mabberley in Mabberley (2008: 1021), respectively. Neither Ali (l.c.) nor Ragupathy et al. (l.c.) provided distinctive features of the taxa to justify their adoption of species rank, although Ragupathy et al. (l.c.) did say that they were following the classification of Kumar & Sane (2003) and Roskov et al. (2005) rather than that of Chakrabarty & Gangopadhyay (1996). The present studies for the ‘Flora of India Project’ currently in preparation revealed that the dividing lines between Vachellia eburnea, V. hydaspica and V. pseudoeburnea are not clear cut (Table 1) and therefore they are best treated as a single species, V. eburnea. The necessary synonymy (and typification) is therefore made here.

Abstract:
Abstract During the latest uprising in Tunisia, the agitated crowd almost totally destroyed the autocratic monumental landscape. As the provocative ‘Anti-Clock Project’ by visual artist Nidhal Chamekh shows, the strongest element of this landscape was not destroyed; it still stands in the capital today and illustrates how the imbricated strata of the contemporary monumental landscape can be understood as an inherited palimpsest that reveals hegemonic assumptions about the prevailing politics of time. The monumental translation of the new era promoted by the contested Ben Ali regime paradoxically froze the idea that change would facilitate general progress, innovation, modernization and development and guarantee a better future. In this article, we argue that the Clock Tower and the civilization project it materializes, initiated by colonial occupation and upheld by the consecutive postcolonial regimes, does not necessarily warrant a better future. Rather, it continues to restrain political sensibilities in the present time, dismisses historical pasts and withholds alternative futures.

The Tyndale Project was born in a sense from the More Project. Next she examines each of the twenty essays collected in the volume under review, using the words of its title as divisions in her text. She subdivides word into translation, hermeneutics, and pastoral applications. Church furnishes “old and new” and concerns, not the two testaments, but beliefs and the Church, and “Tyndale and More.” State is the domain where Tyndale reveals himself the most myoptic, particularly in his vision of a calculating Wolsey. Not content to extract the marrow of substance from these bones, the author engages in much close examination, enriching the work with many additions or suggestions. She does the same with communications posterior to the book she is reviewing. The approval she accords to the authors thus has ali the weight of her own expertise in the field.

Abstract:
Cosa è successo all’Italia della mobilità negli ultimi 17 anni? The Italy of mobility: ancient confirmations and unexpected discoveries What happened to Italian mobility in the last 17 years? The only Italians who have been growing are those who put down roots abroad, leaving their country in the grasp of decreased birth-rate and depopulation. The pandemic emergency has not stopped the departures. Today, after almost three years of healthcare emergency and with a one-year war in the heart of Europe, did our fellow countrymen stop the departures abroad? Did they change their destinations? Starting with the new edition of the Rapporto Italiani nel Mondo (2022) of Fondazione Migrantes and travelling again through the history of this cultural project, this article describes the phenomenon of our Italy experiencing an endless mobility with continuous changing characteristics. The analysis will focus both on today's mobility, which recalls the emigration of the past, and on some unexpected news.
