The article analyzes the forms of rationalism and fideism proposed by Ukrainian Protestant theologians at the beginning of the XXI century. It turns out that these forms of rationalism and fideism were made possible by overcoming the anti-intellectualism that was characteristic of Protestantism in Soviet times. The opposition of tendencies to rationalism and fideism is connected with the positioning of Ukrainian Protestants in the postmodern times. Proponents of de facto rationalism propose to reconstruct the modern religious worldview, re-synthesizing elements of liberal and fundamentalist concepts. The study shows that hopes for the restoration of the modern worldview in the face of the challenges of the early XXI century contain elements of utopianism. Proponents of Fideism suggest taking full account of the real state of affairs in the postmodern era and recognizing the impossibility for Christians to use modern rationalism in all its forms. At the same time, faith acquires special significance as an expression of the personal relations of the holy people with God. Ukrainian Protestant rationalism in the article is analyzed on the example of the work of Sergei Golovin as the most consistent expression of this worldview. It has been proven that his ideas depend on the concepts of Norman Geisler, a prominent Protestant theologian. Golovin, imitating Geisler, believes that the Christian worldview should be the final superstructure over the foundation of classical logical rationalism and the ontology of being. This logic comes from classical Thomism. Golovin's rationalism is the rationalism of formal logic. Golovin's first controversial proposal is to reduce the paradoxes and contradictions contained in the Bible. Such a reduction contradicts the biblical studies of the beginning of the 21st century, and therefore can no longer be convincing for professional theologians. For ordinary believers, this reduction is an obscure rationalization of the image of God they have in reading the Scriptures. The second controversial proposition is to convert people first to logical rationality as the ideological foundation of humanity, and then to their conversion to Christianity. Such a proposal is largely outdated, because in the twentieth century it became clear that rationality in itself can be an instrument of any worldview and does not ensure the preservation or rehabilitation of humanity. By comparing it with theological practices of restoring humanity through the ethics of accepting another, the author argues that the restoration of humanity is possible through recourse to the potential of existentialist spirituality, theology of interpersonal communication, and other practical strategies of Christian theology. The biggest shortcoming of Sergei Golovin's rationalism is the proposal to build his own "scientific creationism", which denies the basic scientific theories of today. The most successful element of Golovin's system was social ethics, which offers the idea of ​​a modern state governed by the rule of law as one that can be deduced from the spirit and letter of the biblical commandments. The fideism of Ukrainian Protestant theology is born from the understanding that the ethical acceptance of others and love for them is possible only on the basis of personal faith. The challenges of the beginning of the 21st century require the acceptance of another, but individuals and communities lack the natural strength to accept such. And only faith and faith-generated love help to be open to others. Also, the post-capitalist economy of mutual gift, proposed by theologians and Christian communities, is based only on personal faith. It has been proven that the fideism of Ukrainian Protestant theology is closer to the ideas of postconservatism than the concepts of postliberalism. It has been found that radical protection of individual rights and humane treatment of others is common to the rationalism and fideism of modern Ukrainian Protestant theology. It is these ideas that are important for understanding what humanity is, which should be a prerequisite for being a true Christian.

ABSTRACTThe controversy over teleology raged in the early modern period with particular intensity. In this paper, I will show that Guillaume Lamy represents a “radical” current of antifinalism, devoid of weakness, and far from compromise with his adversaries. This antifinalism makes of Lamy not so much a sincere supporter of the unknowability of God’s ends, as scholars have maintained — in other words, a proto–fideist — but rather a radical Lucretian materialist, whose aim is to openly distance himself equally from the partial Cartesian rejection of final causes and from the sugar–coated Epicureanism of the Gassendists.

The article deals with the political and economic situation in Hungary in the last several years. The author firstly points to the causes of decline of influence of the previous socialist government and the heavy defeat of the socialists in the 2010 elections and the success of the right party Fidesz. After winning the elections, the Viktor Orban government started, at an accelerated rate, to implement the pre-election programme of Fidesz that had been prepared for a long time while it was an opposition party. The author is of the opinion that this programme is atypical, very radical and unique by many characteristics in the Europe of today. He points out that only a year after Fidesz victory the government and the parliament adopted quite a number of laws, a new Constitution and a set of risky measures of recovery that should lead to a substantial economic reform. The author particularly underlines the fact that the government decided to break of negotiation with IMF, reject its recommendations and try to overcome over-indebtedness by carrying out its own ideas.

AbstractPhilosophy, as an intellectual discipline emerging from Hellenism, had an ambiguous and disputed role in the theology and apologetics of Islam and continues to be contentious. In this article, I examine the arguments over the legitimacy of philosophy between the philosophical school of Mullā Ṣadrā (d.c. 1635), dominant in the present Shiʿi seminary in Iran, and its detractors in themaktab-i tafkīkwho insist that knowledge of reality and the faith only derives from the teachings of the Shiʿi Imams and cannot be contaminated with Aristotelianism. After an introduction to this fideist school of separating religious and ‘foreign’ sciences, three questions are analysed. What is philosophy? How do we know God? How can we demonstrate the Qurʾanic doctrine of the resurrection of bodies? What emerges is a more radical challenge touṣūlīrationalism than that posed previously from theAkhbāriyyaand their insistence upon aḥadīth-based jurisprudence.

Fidesz and Jobbik are the most important Hungarian right wing parties. The first one leads actually a government which has such a majority in the Parliament that gives it the opportunity to rule the country without having to face an effective opposition. This situation allowed it to change the pre-existing Constitution with a conservative and nationalist Charter. The second one represents the most extreme aspirations of the Hungarian political right wing and its references are more proletarian and militant than the ones of the Fidesz. Jobbik has actually three eurodeputies and 47 deputies at the Hungarian Parliament. For a better comprehension of the Magyar nationalism it is very useful to consider such crucial moments of the contemporary history of the country as for instance the peace treaties that followed the end of the First World War and imposed to Hungary such severe territorial losses. The treaties have become the subject of a rhetoric which is based upon the historical injustice that Hungary suffered. This aspect is part of the Hungarian collective feeling and it is one of the main topics of the conservative circles and the radical right wing.

There have been three main types of political outcome from the Great Recession. The first is an insurgency from the left exemplified by Podemos, now in decline, in Spain. It demands a return to classic European social democracy, but presents itself in a more radical rhetorical garb than its mid twentieth century forbears. The second is an insurgency from the right, best exemplified by Hungary’s Victor Orbán and his Fidesz Party. It demands a return to a national capitalism reminiscent of the 1930s. The third is the uniquely Italian phenomenon of the Five Star Movement-Lega combination combined with the rise of technocratic governments called into existence by an increasingly activist presidency. What explains this third, mixed model?

AbstractThe populist radical right (PRR) is increasingly associated with welfare chauvinism, but the literature mainly focuses on Western and Northern European cases. Turning attention to Central Eastern Europe, this article investigates how PRR parties in Hungary frame welfare issues in five social policy areas from 2010 to 2016. This is done through a critical frame analysis applied to party manifestos and State of the Nation speeches by the Fidesz and Jobbik parties. Special care is taken to delineate the interlocking but not interchangeable concepts of nationalism and populism, as recent research asserts this distinction is often overlooked. The main findings are threefold: First, these parties articulate their positions chiefly through nationalist rather than populist framing; Second, while Hungary's PRR exhibits welfare chauvinist framing similar to Western and Northern Europe, a main difference detected was the role of the communist legacy; Third, beyond the article's original goals, the findings revealed a strong connection between nationalist framing and the role of gender, suggesting that the two are not mutually exclusive.

The co-existence between Hungarians and Islam has been considered balanced, until the spring of 2015 when a wave of migrants appeared in Europe. “Opening to the East”, the foreign policy announced by the government in 2011 heralded a new chapter of cooperation with Arabic/Muslim countries, predominantly due to economic considerations. The migrant crisis turned government communication, as well as the stance of Jobbik, the largest opposition party, upside down. This paper discusses the unique phenomenon of what role the political debate about Islam and the construction of the temporary border barrier protecting the Hungarian national borders played in the competitive communication of the national-radical, pro-Muslim opposition Jobbik party (achieving a lead in the polls) and the centre-right governing parties Fidesz-kdnp which typically emphasise their Christian character.

The problem of the „beginning of faith” (initium fidei) was among those which vividly captured the attention of theologians at the beginning of the 5th century, particularly in the wider context of the controversy concerning the relationship be­tween free will and God’s grace in the work of salvation. Generally it is assumed that John Cassian, concerned, on the one hand, to show the Pelagians the neces­sity of grace and the radical Augustinians, on the other, the need for cooperation with the work of divine grace, failed to avoid errors which would subsequently be referred to as semi-pelagianism. With regard to the „beginning of faith”, his error is supposed to consist in the fact that the salvific initiative could derive from man. This view, however, derives from an over simplification of the thought of the Abbot of St. Victor: not only because most of his comments underline the neces­sity for grace in order for faith to begin in man (theological argument), but also because even in his rare „semipelagian” affirmations Cassian speaks of scintilla of good will in man, without however calling this the moment of faith strictly under­stood (philological argument). Above all, however, it is forgotten that for Cassian, who was educated in the spirit of oriental theology, salvation is simultaneously divine and human and lacks any form of „arithmetical” parity between God and man, which would make man an equal partner with God in the work of salvation. For Cassian, everything concerning the primacy of God in salvation is beyond question and human efforts are nothing other than the response expected by the Divine Pedagogue of His pupils as He leads them along the path of salvation, from the initium fidei to its end.

O propósito do presente estudo é analisar a possibilidade de desobediência à lei humana no pensamento de Francisco Suárez. A particulariadade de nossa investigação radica em que centramos a análise em De legibus (1612), que precede a Defensio Fidei (1613), obra esta em que O Eximio trata concretamente da questão atinente à resistência e à desobediência ao tirano. Todavia, interessa-nos indagar sobre o problema proposto em De Legibus, sem desconhecer o tratamento específico em Defensio Fidei, o qual tem sido objeto de numerosas investigações. Primeiramente exporemos algumas questões que desembocam no problema principal desse trabalho. Assim, referimo-nos às leis justas e injustas segundo Suárez; logo à sociabilidade como fundamento da necessidade de leis positivas e das autoridades civis, tanto quanto ao bem comum como um dos principais fins que a lei humana deve perseguir. Na parte final deste trabalho interessa-nos demonstrar que, somente quando faltam as condições que a lei deve reunir, é que O Eximio admite a desobediência à norma injusta, a qual, por esse motivo, perde sua condicição de lei.

Radical right-wing politics and ultra-nationalism have always been important issue across Europe's political spectrum. However, the recent flourishing of right-wing and populist parties in Europe in the past couple years were provoked by the European migrants and refugee crisis. The European institutions fail to solve the crisis. We witnessed various terrorist attacks occurred in major cities in Europe such as Paris, Berlin, and Italy etc. This had led not only the European people but all over the world to grow more suspicious of the EU institutions and their capabilities to manage the incident. As a consequence, the radical right-wing nationalist and right-wing political parties in Europe have taken this opportunity to claim and run their campaigns on a strong anti-refugees and immigrants. As a result, right-wing politicians and parties tend to gain more popularity among voters and achieved electoral success in many European countries such as Marine Le Pen in France, Andrej Babiš in Czech Republic, the Freedom Party (FPÖ) in Austria, Viktor Orbán's Fidesz party in Hungary and elsewhere in Europe. These right-wing nationalists and political parties represent themselves as a defender of European Christian values, the protector of Europe, the savior of Christianity. They are working in every way to prevent the land of Europe from Muslims. This kind of rhetoric is spreading across Europe and developed as an anti-refugee/immigrant campaign which can be seen in both online and offline media especially in the case of Hungary. It has signified as a backlash against the political establishment and a wave of discontent. Furthermore, the rise of right-wing politics has created concerns over human rights, national identity, refugee and migrant issues.

In a political world characterized by social movement rivalry, advocates routinely use reputation work to discredit the motivations and character of their adversaries. Reputational entrepreneurs undercut organizational legitimacy by depicting members with disreputable or radical affiliations as representative of their opponents. These attacks on character must be countered, costing resources and limiting organizational reach. Through reputation work, advocates assert that groups they oppose have a large proportion of stigmatized supporters, are affiliated with prominent disreputable figures, and espouse policies favored by such figures. Such claims direct attention from the substance of the debate, directing attention to the moral stature of claimants. Those attacked must rely on counter strategies to defend themselves. They deny that disreputables are representative, demonstrating their bona fides by exclusive practices, claim that opposing groups have the same problem, and suggest that stigmatized supporters are agents of their opponents. To study these reputational strategies, I examine struggles over the character of members of the America First Committee in the period immediately prior to World War II.

AbstractThe goal of this paper is to put into focus and explain distinctive features of the political developments in Lithuania during second post-communist decade, comparing them with other Baltic States (Latvia and Estonia) and those Central European countries with political systems which resembled most closely Lithuania (Poland and Hungary) by the end of the first post-communist decade. In all these countries, second post-communist decade witnessed the rise of the new successful populist parties. The author argues that this populist rise is the proper context for understanding of Rolandas Paksas’ impeachment in Lithuania in 2003–2004. His Order and Justice Party has to be classified together with the Kaczynski twins Law and Justice Party and its even more radical allies in Poland, Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz and Gábor Vona’s Jobbik in Hungary, Juhan Part’s Res Publica in Estonia and Einars Repše’s New Era in Latvia. They all were right-wing populist parties, proclaiming in their anti-establishment rhetoric the war on corruption of the (ex-communist) elite and the coming of new politics. While the rise of right-wing populism did not change the political system in Estonia and Latvia, its outcome in Hungary and Poland was the breakup of the ex-communist and anti-communist elites pact which was the foundation of the political stability during first post-communist decade. The Kaczynski twins founded Rzecz Pospolita IV (4th Republic of Poland), grounded in the thorough and comprehensive lustration of the ex-communist cadres. Fidesz leader Orban used the two-thirds majority in the Hungarian parliament to promulgate a new constitution. Lithuania is unique in that the ex-communist and anti-communist elites pact was not abolished, but preserved and consolidated thanks to the collaboration of all, by this time, established and left-of-center populist parties during the impeachment proceedings. The impeachment of Paksas can be considered as the stress test of the young Lithuanian liberal democracy just on the eve of the accession of Lithuania to the European Union and NATO. An unhappy peculiarity of the stress tests is that they sometimes break or damage the items tested. Preventing the transformation of liberal post-communism into populist post-communism in Lithuania, the impeachment as stress test was a success. However, against the expectation of many observers, it did not enhance the quality of democracy of Lithuania. The legacy of impeachment are disequilibrium of the balance of power between government branches in favor of the Constitutional Court, strengthening of the left-of-centre populist political forces and the interference of secret services into Lithuanian politics with the self-assumed mission to safeguard Lithuanian democracy from the perils of populism.

To what extent do Euroskeptic parties in Eastern and Central Europe have viable alternatives to the European Union and the broad basket of liberal policies promoted by the EU? In recent years, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has used his overwhelming parliamentary majorities to chart a partially new course, and this article inventories one aspect of this new course. The article asks whether Hungary can gain any potential benefits from closer links to China as a partial replacement for resources that might not be available (or that might be lost) from its more conventional European partners to the west. Orbán has often justified both radical constitutional change and economic nationalism as powerful medicines to push back against Hungary’s vulnerability at the hands of its foreign and domestic enemies. In this context, China emerged as both a potential source of new revenue and rhetorical trope that seemed to fit in a broader Fidesz discourse of an “Eastern opening.” This article makes a first attempt to separate rhetoric and reality. It first explores how the ongoing consolidation of illiberalism in Hungary has now also sparked a geopolitical repositioning through the “Eastern opening” during Fidesz’s second term. Second, it seeks to understand the theoretical proposition that new sources of external funding—including FDI and government bond purchases—can help enable a state to execute such a broad geopolitical shift. To do so, it develops empirical material from the fascinating Hungarian efforts to position themselves as a major beneficiary of Chinese engagement with Europe. The article concludes that Orbán’s policies have indeed been broadly consistent with his party’s new rhetoric, but it also concludes that the amount of Chinese investment is, in aggregate, still modest to date.

Evangelicalism Challenged: A Critical Evaluation of the Epistemology of James K.A. Smith and Radical Orthodoxy The article analyses the implicit epistemology of James K.A. Smith in his book Who’s Afraid of Post-modernism? Taking Derrida, Lyotard and Foucault to Church (2006). The analysis concentrates on Smith’s interpretation of three French postmodern philosophers: J. Derrida, J.F. Lyotard and M. Foucault, but includes also a yearlong discussion between Smith and D.A. Carson, rendered in the book and in Carson’s books Becoming Conversant with the Emerging Church (2005) and Christ & Culture Revisited (2008). Carson defends the evangelical movement which today is criticized and challenged by several post-evangelical writers, among them Smith, who claims that faith is the sole bridge between reality and knowledge. He calls his view confessional realism. The aim is to present and constructively evaluate Smith’s epistemology and its relation to issues like rationality, truth, objectivity and reality. The theoretical basis for the assessment of Smith’s presentation of Radical Orthodoxy andits epistemology is what M. Stenmark calls “The everyday life epistemology upgraded” (Vardagslivets kunskapsteori uppgraderat (VKU). Stenmark argues that we may know the truth, but nobody own the truth. Based on VKU, the article critiques Smith’s epistemology and his theology of incarnation, as partly built on a local language game, partly on his intrabiblical understanding of reality, and partly for the risk of ending up in fideism. VKU is also the basis for a critical assessment of the epistemology ofevangelicalism and Carson’s arguments for the biblical “non-negotiables”. The article defends a critical realism which allows a view of revelation that the triune God is able to transcend the limitations of human sin and subjectivity, and that God the Creator is able to communicate his plan of salvation to rational men. Human rationality never replaces faith, but rationality is able to give good grounds for faith among people endorsing modernity or postmodernity.

Abstract Background The impact of Populist Radical Right (PRR) parties on health policy has so far been neglected by health policy and welfare state literature. The case of the Alliance of Young Democrats (Fidesz) in Hungary, a large PPR party which secured three consecutive supermajorities since 2010, is illustrative of the priorities PPR parties. Methods We conducted a review of available primary sources (legal and policy documents) and secondary literature (academic, press, and think-tank publications). Resulting data was analyzed thematically. Results Under Viktor Orban, Fidesz nominally stopped marketization reforms of the previous governments by re-nationalizing hospitals in its first term. However, voluntary and employer-sponsored private insurance has grown rapidly, resulting in a parallel system of health care financing and provision, likely due to continued underfunding and understaffing of the public sector. The government has not stopped the exodus of health professionals. In public health, Fidesz sought to reduce smoking rates by imposing a wide-reaching smoking ban and by nationalizing the sale of tobacco in its first mandate. Conclusions Fidesz' election in 2010 was brought in part due to protests against health privatization. Health care continued to be a prominent theme of the 2018 elections, this time mobilized by the far-right opposition as a grievance against the government. Fidesz's electoral success is less attributable to health policy than to nationalist and populist rhetoric.

Há uma posição na História da Filosofia em relação a Descartes que aponta ter sido o ceticismo, largamente disseminado na França desde o século XVI, a principal motivação que lhe conduziu à formulação do cogito. Contudo, qual terá sido a motivação que conduziu os filósofos e intelectuais franceses anteriores a Descartes à adesão ao ceticismo radical, pouco visto desde a Antiguidade? Responder a esta pergunta é uma exigência para a compreensão de um período frequentemente ignorado pela História da Filosofia, não obstante sua importância como operíodo de gestação da Modernidade. O objetivo do artigo que se segue é fazer uma leitura histórico-filosófica desse período, colocando em evidência as origens do ceticismo francês do século XVI tardio que antecipou o cogito cartesiano.

I Jornada José Comblin PUC/SP & UNICAP O presente volume é fruto da I Jornada José Comblin, realizada em junho de 2019 na Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo – PUC/SP, em parceria com a Universidade Católica de Pernambuco (UNICAP). Organizada pelos líderes dos Grupos de Pesquisa José Comblin (GPJC), Prof. Dr. Edelcio Ottaviani e Profª. Drª. Alzirinha Rocha de Souza, da PUC/SP e UNICAP respectivamente, a I Jornada não seria efetivada sem a valiosa contribuição dos membros do GPJC da PUC-SP, que estudam, aprofundam e difundem a produção do teólogo belga radicado no Brasil. Os Profs. Dr. Paulo Cappelletti (UMESP), Dr. Valter Luiz Lara (UNISAL), Ma. Mariane de Almeida Silva (Faculdade Católica de São José dos Campos) e Ma. A Jornada teve início na noite do dia 05 com uma palavra de acolhida pelo mestrando Pedro Luiz Amorim e o líder do GPJC da PUC/SP, seguida da conferência intitulada “Comblin, um leitor dos Sinais dos Tempos (ST) e uma leitura dos ST para hoje”, proferida pelo Prof. Dr. Jung Mo Sung (UMESP). No dia 06, a Jornada foi precedida por um momento de oração, enriquecida pela assinatura do convênio entre os Programas de Estudos Pós-Graduados (PEPGs) em Teologia da UNICAP e PUC/SP e continuada com a segunda conferência, proferida pela Profª. Drª. Alzirinha de Rocha Souza. Logo após, foi realizada a mesa temática intitulada: “Ideologias e Teologias”, composta pelos Profs. Drs. Drance Elias da Silva (UNICAP), Edelcio Ottaviani e Paulo Cappelletti, tendo por mediador o Prof. Me. Domingos Zamagna. À tarde, foram realizadas as comunicações dos alunos pós-graduandos nas áreas de Teologias Bíblica e Sistemática (Grupo 1) e Teologia Prática e Análise Conjuntural (Grupos 2A e 2B). A conferência de encerramento foi realizada pelo Prof. Dr. Flávio Fernando de Souza (Grupo Marista, PR). O evento contou com a presença de vários pesquisadores de outros Estados e de Municípios próximos à cidade de São Paulo, estudantes de teologia e agentes de pastoral interessados no pensamento de José Comblin e nos desafios da Pastoral Urbana. Dentre os ouvintes, contamos com a presença da querida Profª. Drª. Ana Flora Anderson, biblista e revisora exegética da Bíblia de Jerusalém traduzida para o português, contemporânea e amiga do nosso querido teólogo.Há mais de 61 anos, José Comblin partia com um espírito missionário ao encontro das terras brasileiras. O jovem doutor em teologia, finalmente, acalmava seu coração que, havia anos, batia ansiosamente por levar a boa notícia de Jesus aos mais distantes rincões. O propósito do apóstolo Paulo de disseminar práticas e valores pautados no modo de ser de Jesus, ele o faria seu. Finalmente, depois de muita insistência, seu desejo de se tornar missionário estava se realizando. Por duas vezes, em 1955 e em 1957, expusera a seu Cardeal Joseph Ernest van Roey a vontade de partir em missão. Certamente, sua inteligência e capacidade teológica retardaram o assentimento do Cardeal. Talvez S. Emcia. tivesse outros planos para ele no interior da Igreja de seu país ou mesmo na famosa Universidade Católica de Lovaina, que apresentava ao jovem teólogo a possibilidade de uma carreira promissora. Os apelos de Pio XII, na Encíclica Fidei Donum, de abril de 1957, deu o impulso necessário à realização de seus apelos. Comblin partiu para o Brasil em 29 de junho de 1958, passando pelos Aeroportos de Recife, Rio de Janeiro e São Paulo. No dia 30, foi direto para Campinas, onde viveria e, por aproximadamente quatro anos, lecionaria na recém-fundada Universidade Católica. Em 1962, Comblin partiria para o Chile onde permaneceria até 1965. Convidado por D. Hélder Câmara, que o conhecera durante o Concílio Vaticano II, por intermédio de D. Manoel Larraín, bispo de Talca e presidente do Conselho Episcopal Latino-americano (CELAM), passa a viver em Pernambuco, sendo um dos fundadores do Instituto de Teologia do Recife (ITER). Perseguido pelos militares e expulso do país em 1972, por causa de suas análises críticas a respeito das conjunturas intra e extra eclesiais, passa a viver no Chile até 1980. Nesse mesmo ano, a mão forte e tirânica de Pinochet, a exemplo dos algozes da ditadura brasileira, expulsa-o também do país de Allende. De retorno ao Brasil, passa a viver como turista itinerante até receber de novo, pelo empenho da Comissão de Justiça e Paz de São Paulo e de D. Paulo Evaristo Arns, seu visto de permanência no país. Radicado na Paraíba, sob os auspícios de D. José Maria Pires nos anos noventa, passa seus últimos dias na diocese de Barra (BA), junto àquele que julgava um profeta dos tempos atuais, D. Luiz Flávio Cappio. Comblin tem uma vasta produção teológica (mais de setenta livros publicados e quinhentos artigos escritos em várias línguas). Destaca-se por aquela que ele julgava sua maior contribuição à teologia latino-americana, a Pneumatologia, e por ter sido um dos primeiros teólogos a refletir e a escrever sobre a Pastoral Urbana. Este dossiê traz à luz elementos de seu pensamento em diálogo com diferentes áreas da teologia e de outros saberes, tais como as ciências sociais, a filosofia e a história. Na conferência transformada em artigo, intitulada “As transformações do cristianismo na América Latina: contribuições de José Comblin”, a doutora em Teologia pela Université Catholique de Louvain, Alzirinha Souza, traz à tona parte de sua pesquisa pós-doutoral que reflete, entre outras coisas, sobre o futuro do Cristianismo e da Religião no mundo atual; apresenta as reflexões de Comblin a respeito do assunto, desenvolvidas por ele numa série de artigos publicados sobretudo em espanhol; fala da impossibilidade de a Igreja voltar ao projeto de Cristandade, muito embora haja um desejo entre os novos movimentos e comunidades de restabelecê-lo; e defende que o futuro do Cristianismo está entre os leigos e na fidelidade ao Evangelho, muito mais do que na profusão de normas e de dogmas promulgados pelo poder clerical. O segundo artigo, que tem por título “Pautas para a Evangelização da cidade, hoje”, é de autoria de Flávio Fernando de Souza, doutor em Teologia pela Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná (PUC/PR) e mestre em Educação pela Universidade Tuiuti do Paraná (UTP). Ele aprofunda a Conferência de encerramento da I Jornada. Em seu texto, Flávio parte das preocupações de José Comblin e estabelece um diálogo com diferentes autores que se dedicaram a analisar o fenômeno urbano, para pensar o modo mais eficaz de anunciar o Evangelho nos espaços e temporalidades próprios aos contextos contemporâneos. Toma a realidade dos sujeitos interlocutores e as subjetividades urbanas como pontos de partida dos processos de evangelização das cidades e as alinha à representação de uma “Igreja em saída rumo às periferias existenciais”, como tem apontado insistentemente o Papa Francisco em sua Exortação Apostólica Evangelii Gaudium (2013). Como aprofundamento da mesa temática “Ideologias e Teologias”, o terceiro artigo, de autoria do Prof. Dr. Drance Elias da Silva, doutor em Sociologia pela Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE), procura explicitar os interesses sociais que condicionam o fazer teológico de José Comblin e o papel que a suspeita ideológica tem em seu modo de fazer teologia. Ressalta também a importância das ciências, em particular das ciências sociais (sociologia, economia, ciências políticas e antropologia) no pensamento do autor, para analisar a libertação da fome, da opressão e da exclusão social que constituem um dos maiores desafios para a Evangelização da América Latina e dos países abaixo da linha do Equador. O quarto artigo, de minha autoria, apresenta a busca pela verdade, em contraposição às ideologias religiosas, políticas e econômicas no acontecimento José Comblin. Ao analisar as ideologias que permearam três momentos significativos de sua vida (vinda à América Latina como padre Fidei Donum, expulsão do Brasil e do Chile em nome da Ideologia da Segurança Nacional, globalização do neoliberalismo), procuro mostrar a fidelidade de Comblin à verdade que brota do Evangelho, testemunhado no modo libertador de Jesus contra toda forma de dominação, tornando-se, ele mesmo, um acontecimento. Os três artigos que compõem a terceira e última parte do dossiê, dizem respeito a temas ligados, direta ou indiretamente, ao nosso autor. O artigo “Pensar com Francisco Taborda: hacia una teología fundamental de los Sacramentos en nuestros dias” – de autoria do Prof. Dr. Pedro Rubens Ferreira Oliveira, doutor em Teologia pelo Centre Sèvres de Theologie, Facultés Jésuites de Paris (France) e Reitor da UNICAP – propõe uma releitura do clássico da teologia latino-americana, “Sacramentos, práxis e festa”, de Francisco Taborda, no contexto atual, bem diferente daquele em que foi escrito (anos 80). Pedro Rubens atesta que o epíteto “clássico” se deve ao fato de ser “un libro que las personas no suelen decir que están leyendo, sino que siempre lo están releyendo”. Segundo o autor, o livro de Taborda se configura como “teologia fundamental dos sacramentos que reponde aos desafios de uma questão epocal latino-americana, segundo a orientação do Concílio Vaticano II de perscrutar os sinais dos tempos”. A releitura estabelece um vínculo com José Comblin, na medida em que os temas abordados refletem o modo de fazer teologia de nosso autor, partindo da realidade e estabelecendo modos de agir que têm como parâmetro os valores do Evangelho (metodologia do ver, julgar e agir). Taborda relaciona a categoria de “sociedade líquida”, elaborada por Zigmut Bauman, às exigências de uma Igreja em saída pensada pelo Papa Francisco, para repensar a ação evangelizadora a partir de feitos concretos que o papa Francisco valoriza. “Com gestos simbólicos que ele multiplica, ao orientar para uma comunhão da Humanidade com as grandes causas, seu pontificado entra em sintonia com a estrutura de reflexão de Taborda, segundo uma relação dialética entre o feito valorado, gesto simbólico e intercomunhão solidária”. À luz de Taborda, Pedro Rubens se pergunta até que ponto o novo interesse pela “ortodoxia” das liturgias romanas é uma expressão de verdadeira unidade com a Igreja Universal ou uma reação injustificada que afronta o laborioso esforço iniciado pelo Concílio Vaticano II. O segundo artigo dessa série, “A cidadania romana na Epístola aos Filipenses:um diálogo com José Comblin”, aponta para a perspectiva tão cara ao pensamento combliniano, ou seja, o olhar a realidade a partir de uma leitura atenta das Sagradas Escrituras, em especial dos escritos neotestamentários. O Prof. Dr. Valter Lara, doutor em Ciências da Religião pela Universidade Metodista de São Paulo (UMESP), estabelece um diálogo com Comblin, partindo do comentário à carta de São Paulo aos Filipenses, publicado por nosso autor em 1985. Valter alega que “a situação imediata de Paulo prisioneiro é, sem dúvida, motivação importante de um dos três bilhetes que compõem o conjunto da Epístola. Entretanto, a realidade de conflito social, vivida pela comunidade ao enfrentar o modelo sociocultural de desigualdade dominante, explica o caráter da exortação ética em torno da unidade (Fl 2,1-5) e o modelo cristológico apresentado como critério para viver o exemplo de Jesus que se fez escravo (Fl 2,6-11)”. Por fim, o artigo do Prof. Dr. Flávio Lyra de Andrade, doutor em Sociologia pela Universidade Federal da Paraíba (UFPB), intitulado “Igreja no Nordeste, pastorais sociais e cristianismo da libertação: Assembleia Popular nos anos 2005-2010”, encerra o dossiê. Segundo as palavras do próprio autor, o texto é um “recorte da pesquisa sobre a construção de identidade coletiva dos cristãos na Assembleia Popular, no qual são abordados pastorais e movimentos sociais nos Estados de Pernambuco e Paraíba, situando-os no contexto do Regional da CNBB NE2, no período de 2005 a 2010”. Ao refletir a partir do campo da sociologia da religião em diálogo com a teologia, enfatiza o modo como o cristianismo da libertação se expressa em iniciativa das pastorais sociais, na articulação da Assembleia Popular, constituindo-se como uma tradição político-cultural. Problematiza o trânsito entre os campos político e religioso dos cristãos e dos participantes dessa experiência e traz questões de cunho eclesiológico e político-pastoral, sobre o peculiar contexto das Igrejas Católicas de Olinda-Recife e João Pessoa naquele período. O vínculo com o pensamento de Comblin se dá justamente na análise das Assembleias Populares e da difusão das Comunidades Eclesiais de Base no Nordeste, como um novo modo de ser Igreja, aplicado à relidade latino-americana e alinhado à noção Povo de Deus, expressa no segundo capítulo da Constituição Dogmáticasobre a Igreja (Lumen Gentium).Eis aqui o fruto de um trabalho coletivo visando o aprofundamento e a difusão do pensamento e da vida do téologo José Comblin, expoente de uma teologia genuína que nasce a partir do solo e dos povos latino-americanos.
