Correa, Melissa, and Santiago Solorzano. "Enrichment metrics for the identification of stabilizers of the telomeric G quartet using genetic algorithm." minerva 1, no. 1 (April 24, 2020): 13–23. http://dx.doi.org/10.47460/minerva.v1i1.2.

Full text
Abstract:
In this study a combination of computer tools for coupling and virtual screening is detailed, in 108 active molecules and 3620 decoys to find stabilizers for G quadruplex (G4). To have more precise results, combinations of coupling programs with fifteen energy scoring functions were applied. The validation and evaluation of the metrics was done with the CompScore genetic algorithm. The results showed an increase in BEDROC and EF of 50% compared to other strategies, as well as reflecting early recognition of active molecules. From these results it is possible to work with the molecules that showed a good early recognition and evaluate their effect as G4 stabilizers. This ensures more efficient and accurate results in the preclinical stage for the development of anticancer drugs. Keywords: Enrichment metrics; telomere; G quadruplex (G4); CompScore. Full text
Abstract:
Resilient modulus ( M R) which properly characterizes the load-deformation response of pavement materials under traffic loading, is evaluated. The M R values due to three different gradations and three different moisture contents were investigated for the Richard Spur and the Sawyer aggregates, which are commonly used in Oklahoma as the subbase or base materials of roadway pavements. The three gradations were finer limit, median, and coarser limit, as specified by the Oklahoma Department of Transportation for Type A aggregate. The three moisture contents selected are optimum moisture content (OMC), 2 percent below OMC, and 2 percent above OMC. To investigate the variability of the test results, six duplicate M R tests under identical conditions were performed for each case by using the AASHTO T294-94 method. Furthermore, the material properties, K1 and K2, which are required input in the AASHTO pavement design equation, were evaluated for the M R values obtained. Finally, multiple linear regression models for predicting the M R values of the two aggregates were established.

Honchar, Oleksii. "Richard Wagner’s Opera “Tannhäuser” in the Director’s Interpretation of Romeo Castellucci." Scientific herald of Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine, no. 131 (June 30, 2021): 137–53. http://dx.doi.org/10.31318/2522-4190.2021.131.243226.

Abstract:
The relevance of the study lies in the systematization of the expressive means of the director’s interpretation of R. Castellucci, who, using the semantic elements of Dionysianism and Appolonism, Pantheism and Christianity — the main pair of oppositions for the European cultural space, has compared not only the forms of expression, but also the concepts of art, Tannhäuser’s inability to make a choice and be successful. He sees positive elements in each of them, but without accepting them as a whole, always remains on the verge, being rejected by the system, unwilling to completely immerse himself in it. R. Castellucci interprets Tannhäuser’s image as a victim of the conventions of these systems. The novelty of the research lies in the analysis of R. Castellucci’s producing, which is not substantially studied in Ukrainian musicology, although it opens a completely new interpretation of Tannhäuser. The figurative content of the main opposing forces here is fundamentally different from their previous incarnation on the opera stages of the world. The main objective of the study was to penetrate into the general interpretive vision of the work — its maximum symbolization, the use of figurative and semantic elements and their combinations in the work, which constitute the semantic field of the production, having a wide variance of perception and not directly following the plot, avoiding narrative and at the same time not deviating from the author’s text. The theme of love in its sensual and spiritual, as well as art and its forms of expression — the opposition of these criteria by R. Wagner is significantly complicated through the interpretation of them by R. Castellucci in postmodern discourse, where a set of pre-meanings gains direct meaning. So Venus and Venusburg, for R. Wagner, are a symbol of sensuality, and the director exaggerates the sensual to the meaning of “indecent”, where “hyper” becomes the primary characteristic, which is inherent in the elements of the production as a whole. The study was done by using semiotic principles of the director’s work and their semantic load determined the main methodological approaches of research in accordance with the works of J. Baudrillard, which were based on the algorithm for the structural analysis of an opera work developed by M. R. Cherkashina-Gubarenko. Elizabeth is the opposition to this discourse, and the Wartburg society is the personification of excessive rationalization, which makes it mechanized and devoid of humanity, impervious to other points of view, that is, totalitarian. In the end, Tannhäuser and Elizabeth are freed from the irreconcilable tension between discourses, the end of which becomes a deeply symbolic non-existence and stratification of space, time, performer and character. In any case, Tannhäuser does not really renounce his beliefs; the blossom of the bishop’s staff as a sign of divine grace refers not so much to Tannhäuser as to labeling his views as permissible in a variety of opinions, but alien to the clerical spirit and its institutions. As a result we can argue that the director departs from traditional interpretations of the plot and value judgments of a certain world, leaving unanswered the question of the normativity of one of them as opposed to the other, makes filling with symbolic images, while blurring clear lines and avoiding direct definition through illustrative direction. In general, everything hyper-, over-, “too” and “exaggerated” is characteristic of the director’s interpretations of R. Castellucci. His postmodern vision of the theater and some kinship with the “theater of cruelty” A. Artaud, allows, according to R. Castellucci, to experience these emotions outside of real life, to sublimate them through art — which was the focus of ancient tragedy. The study has significance from the point of view of an artistic and scientific description of the modern stage director’s theater, the principles of the artist’s work with material and its adaptation to modernity without violating the author’s intention. It can be used as a material in the studying of directors of musical theater and in introductory courses on modern trends in operatic art.

Abstract:
Prior, Barry M., Kirk J. Cureton, Christopher M. Modlesky, Ellen M. Evans, Mark A. Sloniger, Michael Saunders, and Richard D. Lewis. In vivo validation of whole body composition estimates from dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry. J. Appl. Physiol. 83(2): 623–630, 1997.—We validated whole body composition estimates from dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DEXA) against estimates from a four-component model to determine whether accuracy is affected by gender, race, athletic status, or musculoskeletal development in young adults. Measurements of body density by hydrostatic weighing, body water by deuterium dilution, and bone mineral by whole body DEXA were obtained in 172 young men ( n = 91) and women ( n = 81). Estimates of body fat (%Fat) from DEXA (%FatDEXA) were highly correlated with estimates of body fat from the four-component model [body density, total body water, and total body mineral (%Fatd,w,m); r = 0.94, standard error of the estimante (SEE) = 2.8% body mass (BM)] with no significant difference between methods [mean of the difference ± SD of the difference = −0.4 ± 2.9 (SD) % BM, P = 0.10] in women and men. On the basis of the comparison with %Fatd,w,m, estimates of %FatDEXA were slightly more accurate than those from body density ( r = 0.91, SEE = 3.4%; mean of the difference ± SD of the difference = −1.2 ± 3.4% BM). Differences between %FatDEXA and %Fatd,w,m were weakly related to body thickness, as reflected by BMI ( r= −0.34), and to the percentage of water in the fat-free mass ( r = −0.51), but were not affected by race, athletic status, or musculoskeletal development. We conclude that body composition estimates from DEXA are accurate compared with those from a four-component model in young adults who vary in gender, race, athletic status, body size, musculoskeletal development, and body fatness.

Abstract:
Artykuł zawiera opatrzoną wstępem i komentarzami edycję dwunastu listów Emila Młynarskiego pisanych do żony Anny w Lozannie w okresie 1905–06. Tęsknota do niej walczy o lepsze z myślami o powrocie do zawodu.

Abstract:
Po przerwach w próbach Lohengrina w Paryżu w Théâtre-Italien, Opéra-Comique i Palais Garnier w 1884, 1885 i 1886 r., mieszkańcy stolicy mogli wreszcie, dzięki wytrwałość Charlesa Lamoureux, podziwiać tę operę 3 V 1887 r. w teatrze Eden. Premier Charles de Freycinet, w przeciwieństwie do René Gobleta cztery lata wcześniej, wykorzystał siły bezpieczeństwa do ochrony artystów.

In this paper, we collect some results on a problem which has been considered by many authors over the years, including Ed Pegg Jr., R. M. Kurchan, William Rex Marshall, David Neary, Richard Korf and Eric Huang. The results have been rediscovered many times by many people, including the present authors, but very little has been published, except in a little known journal which no longer appears. Some of the cases have been solved by hand while others have been covered by Korf [1, 2], using a computer. We see our main role as that of collectors of information and presenters of results, in the hope that others will be inspired to study what is an exciting and very interesting area of combinatoric geometry; we believe, however, that some of our observations, variations and upper bounds are new.

Abstract:
This close empirical study of decades of US efforts to bring peace between Arab states and Israel helps reflect on Arild Underdal and Oran R. Young’s leadership typologies. Distinguishing between coercive leadership based on the incentives and sanctions that robust capabilities make possible and instrumental leadership focused more on talking, skilled mediation, and policy innovation is useful. However, this US mediation demonstrates that the two are not wholly distinct as previously suggested. The narrative of US efforts from Richard M Nixon to William J Clinton, including 22 cases of US involvement in Arab–Israeli mediation, suggests successful US mediation has been based on four factors. US involvement has led to breakthroughs when the US administration was highly engaged and kept at the problem after an initial diplomatic setback; benefitted from an exogenous event; managed that event to the US advantage; and dealt with strong Arab and Israeli partners.

Abstract:
Variations in the interatomic distances lead to altered d-band centre for a given metal, and provide an elegant way to control its activity towards (electro)catalytic reactions (“strain-engineering” approach). The effect of strain was rationalized within the frame of the d-band theory of Hammer and Nørskov in the late 1990s [1,2]. The authors predicted that the rate of the sluggish oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) can be enhanced on catalysts binding *OH ca. 0.10 - 0.15 eV more weakly than Pt(111), [1, 2] and this prediction was experimentally verified using a Pt3Ni(111)-skin surface.[3] Nevertheless, these predictions hardly translated to nanomaterials, because of the wide variety of catalytic sites configurations. Also, the d-band theory mostly considers catalytic surfaces in vacuum, without any effect related to the electrical double layer and adsorption/desorption processes. Hence, an in situ picture of how strain develops on Pt-based surfaces is still lacking. In this contribution, we took benefit of recent advances in Bragg Coherent Diffraction Imaging (BCDI) [4, 5]and of the fourth generation Extremely Brilliant Source of the European Synchrotron (ESRF-EBS, Grenoble, France) to map strain over Pt nanoparticles in situ. Our results show that adsorption of anions causes appearance of compressive strain at under-coordinated (edges and corners) atoms and tensile strain at highly-coordinated ({001} and {111} facets) atoms. Strain heterogeneity increases with the electrode potential and reaches as large as 0.08 %. at ORR-relevant potential. These results provide direct insights into the dynamics of Pt nanoparticles in an electrochemical environment, and have direct consequences for electrocatalysis in general, and for ORR electrocatalysis in particular. Abstract:
Abstra ct The first reference about the use of the term geology is found in Richard de Bury, in the mid-fourteenth century, although he did not define it. This word has been used over almost five hundred years by numerous authors, including U. Aldrovandi (1603), M. P. Escholt (1657), R. Lovell (1661), F. Sessa (1687), E. Warren (1690), D. Clüver (1700), B. Martin (1735), J.-A. de Luc (1778), and H. B. de Saussure (1779), without fully specifying its meaning, with a great vagueness as a concept, and without clearly defining its subject matter: Geology as some book titles, or ideas such as on what is dug out of the earth, discourse concerning the earth, general doctrine of the earth, or science of continents, were duly neither developed nor explained by the authors. Among the fathers of geology as a science, according to their works contents, an implicit meaning is found in G. Arduino (1760) and J. Hutton (1795), and also in other naturalists as B. Faujas de Saint-Fond (1803). In the first decades of the nineteenth century, S. Breislak (1811) and W. Phillips (1815) defined the descriptive, historical and explanatory aspects of geology, and C. Lyell (1830) laid down accurately the scope and aim of geology as a historical science, with a methodology based on Actualism-Uniformitarianism.

Abstract:
In a series of recent essays, including their contributions to this symposium, Richard N. Langlois and Naomi R. Lamoreaux, Daniel M. G. Raff, and Peter Temin (hereafter LRT) present interesting but contradictory views of the decentralized or vertically disintegrated post-Chandlerian economy from whose vantage point they seek to reconceptualize business history. Starting from an orientation that uneasily combines Adam Smith’s ideas about the division of labor with organizational learning, Langlois sees the current situation as dominated by the modularization of production. This modularization and the arm’s-length transactions it facilitates create a world reminiscent of the antebellum United States, although today’s highthroughput differentiated exchanges are underpinned by a set of market-supporting institutions, notably standard interfaces or design rules. Starting from an orientation toward Oliver Williamson and the minimization of coordination costs, LRT in contrast see a world of collaborators joined by long-term, largely informal relations of a distinct type reducible neither to markets nor hierarchies.

Abstract:
Gunite, or concrete shot through a hose, helped to shape twentieth-century modernist architecture, yet its history is largely unwritten. In 1927–29 Richard Neutra pioneered the architectural use of Gunite in the Lovell House in Los Angeles. Frank Lloyd Wright praised Neutra's house, and he later used Gunite with a light steel frame in his Community Church in Kansas City, Missouri (1939–42). In Wright's next public commission, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum (1943–59) in New York City, he proposed that the great spiral gallery be wholly of Gunite set on a pre-stressed steel frame, in order to achieve his ideal of plasticity and continuity; the material was used to form the Guggenheim's exterior walls as built. In Seamless Continuity versus the Nature of Materials: Gunite and Frank Lloyd Wright's Guggenheim Museum, Joseph M. Siry narrates the manner in which the design of the Guggenheim's wood formwork, its joints, and the choice of its exterior coating challenged Wright and his collaborators to achieve a form for the spiral that was consistent with his aesthetic ideal.

Abstract:
The challenge of implementing character education has an impact on the development of children's character. This study aims to describe the form of parenting using tueak serembeak in early character development and education in the Rejang tribe. This qualitative research uses a case study method with two male respondents. Data was collected by documentation, interviews, observations, and field notes and analysed using the Miles and Huberman stages. The theoretical study as the basis of research shows that tueak serembeak can form twelve characters in early childhood, responsibility, courage to take decisions, sharing, caring, survival, tenacity, cooperation, hard work, never give up, keep the spirit, dare to accept challenges, and be patient in dealing with problems. However, the findings in the field show that there are only four characters that appear, being responsible, sharing, caring and patient in dealing with problems. Other characters that appear not based on the teachings of tueak serembeakare independent, creative, and friendly characters. This happens because of the influence of external intervention, education in Air Raman Village, which has developed, advanced technology and open community life. A suggestion for further research, is experimental research based on tueak serembeak teachings that can explain more clearly the influence of this teaching on other aspects of child development. Abstract:
Ocean literacy is currently at the forefront of the development of the notion of marine environmental sustainability. It is critical to compare ocean literacy ideas in curriculum standards. Comics Convey various messages of maritime insight content on integrated, contextual, and meaningful learning. This study aims to design STEAM (to R-SLAMET; Religion, Science, Literacy, Art, Math, Engineer, and Technology) learning that contains ocean literacy messages in a comic media. Through the qualitative research method with study case type, researchers seek to aid early childhood education (ECE) educators in designing R-SLAMET learning through the media to overcome maritime cultural literacy problems. The participants of this study consisted of three educators and 43 children. The findings show that the natural play experience of early childhood can be a source of inspiration to find ocean literacy through R-SLAMET learning activities. Contextual play by children becomes a reference for designing comic-based R-SLAMET learning. Comic media can integrate R-SLAMET learning in improving children's ocean literacy. Abstract:
Graphite – natural or synthetic – is the most dominant active material used for LIB anodes[1]. Natural graphite, however, is considered a critical material within the EU[2], while synthetic graphite is obtained from coke[3] – a carbon precursor produced from coal or petroleum. Therefore, efficient recycling and reuse of graphite are essential towards sustainability and resource preservation[4]. Herein, we report a novel and highly efficient process to recover high-quality graphite from spent LIBs. Following a comprehensive physicochemical characterization of the materials obtained, we conducted an extensive electrochemical characterization in half-cells and graphite‖NMC532 full-cells and compared the results with the data obtained for half-cells and full-cells using pristine commercial graphite. In half-cells, the recycled graphite shows remarkably high reversible specific capacities (e.g., 350 mAh g- 1 at C/20) and very stable cycling for several hundred cycles at 1C. The graphite‖NMC532 full-cells also show excellent cycling stability, with a capacity retention of 80% after about 1,000 cycles. Particularly, the comparison with the pristine graphite comprising full-cells reveals very comparable performance, highlighting the great promise of recycled and reused graphite as a pivotal step towards truly sustainable LIBs and the great goal of a circular economy. Abstract Vol 34: p 813: In the fifth full paragraph in column 2, the second sentence should read "In 1934, von Meduna, a Hungarian psychiatrist..." (instead of 1983), and in the third sentence "1983" should read "1938." In the acknowledgements section to this paper, "MH-4115" should read "MH-41115." p 1018: Add Richard A. Patrick to this list of authors' names. p 1113: second column, 14th line from bottom, "32.1%" should read "10.9%" and, in the next line, "consistent" should read "inconsistent." Two lines further down, "60.7%" should read "18.5%" (see Letter by M. R. Hammer, in press). p 1493: It is stated (column 2, third paragraph) that a DB-1701 column does not contain a nitrogen atom in its stationary phase. This is incorrect. The Phase is a 14% cyanopropylphenylsiloxane polymer. p 1541: In the first full sentence in the right-hand column, "similarly higher" should read "similar." p 1629: In the right-hand column, the second-to-last paragraph, the ninth line from the bottom should read "...0.5 mL of a reagent solution containing, per liter, 10 g of dextran sulfate (500 000 Da) and 0.5 mol of MgCL2" p 1945: In line 6, column three, "0.65" should "0.965." p 2148: Add I. Abstract:
Background:Sjögren’s syndrome (SS) is a systemic autoimmune disease whose main characteristic is involvement of the exocrine glandular system. Thus, its most common clinical manifestation is eye and mouth dryness which, alongside fatigue and pain, contributes to poor health-related quality of life (HRQoL). A growing body of evidence recognises the adipose tissue as an active endocrine organ secreting bioactive mediators involved in metabolic and inflammatory disorders. A relationship between obesity and symptoms in SS has not yet been elucidated. Objectives:To explore potential associations between obesity-related immune-metabolic biomarkers and clinical symptoms in SS and sicca patients. Methods:Proteomics analysis of 184 cardio-immuno-metabolic proteins was assessed on sera from 53 SS (50 females (F), 3 males (M); mean age 54 years) and 60 sicca (56 F, 4 M; mean age 57 years) patients. Participants were enrolled in the Birmingham Optimising Assessment in Sjögren`s Syndrome (OASIS) cohort and examinations included the EULAR SS Patient Reported Index (ESSPRI), Schirmer’s test, unstimulated whole saliva, minor labial salivary gland biopsy, EuroQoL-5 dimension (EQ-5D) tool, immunological parameters, body max index (BMI) and Hb1Ac. Participants with SS fulfilled 2016 ACR/EULAR criteria. Non-SS sicca patients were anti-Ro antibody negative, displayed objective oral and/or ocular dryness, and did not have a physician diagnosis for SS. Linear regression analysis and univariate models were performed to identify the key predictors of symptoms. Results:HRQoL as measured as EQ-5D utility values, symptoms as assessed by ESSPRI, and BMI did not differ between the SS and sicca group. However, strong correlations between BMI (or fat or fat-free mass) and EQ-5D and ESSPRI scores were found in the sicca but not in the SS group. Among several proteins investigated, ADM, TNFRSF13B, FGF23, IL10RB, CD5, CD40, IL1RA, TNRSFN9, TNFRSF10A, TNFRSF11A, TRAILR2, GAL9, SPON2, ACE2, LEP, CD4, IL12B, SLAMF1, PD-L1 positively correlated with symptoms in the sicca group (R ≥ 0.3; Holm’s adjusted P ≤ 0.05). Adrenomedullin (ADM) showed the strongest correlation with ESSPRI (R = 0.56; P < 0.0001); age (R = 0.45; P = 0.0003); BMI (R = 0.43, P = 0.0008); Ocular Surface Disease Index (R = 0.32, P = 0.03); EQ-5D utility value (R = -0.45, P = 0.001) and VAS patient (R = -0.41, P = 0.008). There was no association between ADM and gender, Schirmer`s test, disease and symptom duration (P > 0.05). ADM was independently associated with ESSPRI scores in non-SS sicca patients when corrected for BMI, age, HbA1c, depression and anxiety scores. None of the above mentioned proteins correlated with clinical symptoms in the SS group. Conclusion:The study suggests that obesity-related immune-metabolic factors may play a role in regulating the symptoms in non-SS sicca patients. ADM appears to be a strong independent predictor of symptoms in these patients but not in SS.Disclosure of Interests:Valentina Pucino: None declared, Jason D.
