Abstract:
Resilience was set to rest on 30 June 2016 in Trondheim, Norway. After a two-year quest for meaning, the concept now lies with its neoliberal supporters. Resilience and I first crossed paths at the beginning of my PhD journey in Geography. I was driven by curiosity and an eagerness to put resilience to use: after all, who doesn’t want to be resilient? As the months passed by, I discovered the many different meanings the concept was associated with. Indeed, resilience refused to be put in a box. Yet, the concept contained some questions that I set out to try to answer in the “real” world. However, curiosity soon developed into frustration – resilience revealed a rootlessness that was disturbing. Was it a means to measure? A means to conceptualize why some people make it and some do not? Or, was it in fact, just a means to get funding? Certainly, it was not a means to explain. Therefore, resilience will for me forever be remembered as an approach to enter and structure an interview guide, but now we must bid one another farewell. Your legacy will continue to live on in the neoliberal agenda.

Abstract:
This study examined the impact and side effects of a cognitive behavioural program for the treatment of recurrent abdominal pain (R.A.P.) on children's behavioural adjustment and family functioning. It assessed the extent to which changes in children's pain symptoms covaried with family processes thought to be etiologically significant in cases of R.A.P. Results showed that pain symptoms of both experimental and control children improved significantly six months after initial assessment. Treatment achieved its objectives more quickly with a higher proportion of completely pain-free children. None of the measures of child adjustment or family conflict, expressiveness, independence or achievement orientation were associated with changes in pain intensity ratings or parent observational measures of pain behaviour. There was no evidence that treatment was associated with any negative side effects.

Full text
Abstract:
Details of the complex bonding environment present in the molecular centre of an alkyne-bridged dicobalt complex have been examined using a combination of experimental and theoretical charge-density modelling for two compounds which share a central Co2C2 tetrahedral moiety as their common motif. Topological analysis of the experimental electron density illustrates the problem of separating the Co—C bond-critical points (b.c.p.s) from the intervening ring-critical point (r.c.p.), due largely to the flat nature of the electron density in the CoC2 triangles. Such a separation of critical points is immediately obtained from a topological analysis of the theoretical electron density as well as from the multipole-projected theoretical density; however, the addition of random noise to the theoretical structure factors prior to multipole modelling leads to a failure in consistently distinguishing two b.c.p.s and one r.c.p. in such close proximity within the particular environment of this Co2C2 centre.
