Abstract:
Grammar anomalies are frequent in texts produced by second language learners. When describing these anomalies, two main issues arise: What is anomalous use of grammar? And how are grammar anomalies distinct from orthographic and lexical anomalies? We review earlier error-definitions and suggest defining grammar anomalies according to an explicit norm instead of L1 usage. We propose a broader definition of grammar than in previous studies, based on Boye & Harder (2012). The distinction between grammar, lexicon and orthography is illustrated with data from 28 adult L1 English learners of L2 Danish. In the corpus, 55.9 % of the anomalies were related to grammar. Finally, we discuss how definitions and procedures can be used in future studies of naturally occurring grammar anomalies.

This article investigates Greenland as a setting in new Danish prose. I make the case that Danish literature about Greenland is a significant trend in the 2010s, and that the books can be divided into three dimensions: past, present and future. Focusing on space and place, I exemplify this division through short analyses of the novels Rød mand/Sort mand (2018) by Kim Leine, Godhavn (2014) by Iben Mondrup and Korsveje i Nord (2015) by Bjarne Ljungdahl, which are set in the past, present and future, respectively.

Abstract:
The literary interest in Greenland has been growing steadily in recent years. Both the question of the countryʼs secession from Denmark and the handling of imperialism's historical heritage have occupied the public. The author Kim Leine diligently contributes to the debate with his works on the cultural encounters between Danes and Greenlanders. Following an overview of Leine’s description of the coexistence of colonizers and colonized and the political and religious influence of the former on the latter in the beginning of the 18. century this paper discusses how Leine tries to debunk the common perception of Danes as soft colonizers. The main purpose of the article is to investigate how the difference between the two cultures manifests itself in the father-son relations, with a special focus on the interpretation of the act of sacrifice in the biblical story of Abraham and Isaac. The approach is inspired by postcolonial theory.

"Optimizing rice-fish co-culture: Investigating the impact of rice spacing density on biochemical profiles and production of genetically modified tilapia (Oreochromis spp.) and Cyprinus carpio." PLOS ONE 18, no. 12 (December 28, 2023): e0295996. http://dx.doi.org/10.1371/journal.pone.0295996.

Abstract:
Rice fish co-culture synergistically boosts food production, resulting in numerous advantages across the environmental, social, and financial domains. A study was conducted to investigate the effects of three different rice spacing densities, rice high density (RHD) 9inch×12inch, rice medium density (RMD) 12inch × 12inch, rice low density (RLD) 15inch×12inchon both rice and fish. Various parameters were assessed to evaluate the performance of the co-culture system, including water quality, growth parameters, muscle quality, soil characteristics, rice stem characteristics, and rice yield parameters. When comparing the species, it was observed that GMT (Genetically Male Tilapia) demonstrated superior weight gain (303.13g vs 296.41g) and specific growth rate (1.16 vs 1.15). Regarding the proximate composition, results showed that RMD had the highest crude protein and fat content compared to RLD and RHD. GMT also exhibited greater crude protein and fat content than Cyprinus carpio, with RMD showing the highest values. Treatment groups significantly influenced the amino acid profile of experimental species, with RMD exhibiting the highest values. GMT showed significantly higher levels of essential, non-essential, half-essential, and umami amino acids compared to Cyprinus carpio. The interaction between RMD and GMT further demonstrated significant differences in various amino acid categories with RMD. A non-significant difference was observed among the treatments regarding soil biochemical characteristics. Regarding the rice stem characters, the height of the plant, panicle length, and stem length of rice were found to be comparable in the RMD and RLD groups however, significantly higher in RHD. Regarding rice yield parameters, no significant differences were observed among the other treatment groups, except for yield per hectare (yield/ha), which was significantly higher in the RHD group compared to RMD and RLD. Additionally, 1000-grain weight and panicle number (ears per hill) were significantly higher in the RLD treatment than in the other treatments. In conclusion, our findings indicate that the RMD treatment consistently yielded superior results compared to RLD and RHD. Furthermore, within the rice-fish co-culture system, GMT proved to be a more competent species compared to Cyprinus carpio. The study provides data to understand the interactions between rice spacing density, fish growth and overall productivity can guide the development of sustainable and profitable rice-fish co-culture systems.

"Arg-Tyr-Asp (RYD) and Arg-Cys-Asp (RCD) motifs in dendroaspin promote selective inhibition of β1 and β3 integrins." Biochemical Journal 356, no. 1 (May 8, 2001): 11–17. http://dx.doi.org/10.1042/bj3560011.

Abstract:
Arg-Gly-Asp (RGD) is a unique minimal integrin-binding sequence that is found within several glycoprotein ligands. This sequence has also been found in snake-venom anti-platelet proteins, including the disintegrins and dendroaspin, a natural variant of short-chain neurotoxins isolated from the venom of Dendroaspis jamesonii. In the present study, the motifs RYD and RCD were introduced into the dendroaspin scaffold to replace RGD. Both motifs in dendroaspin caused inhibition of ADP-induced platelet aggregation with IC50 values of 200 and 300nM respectively, similar to that of the wild-type RGD motif (170nM). In comparison with wild-type dendroaspin, both RYD- and RCD-containing dendroaspins were more selective in the inhibition of the adhesion of K562 cells to laminin rather than to fibrinogen and fibronectin, even though they were 10–30-fold less potent at inhibiting K562 cell (containing α5β1 integrin) adhesion to laminin compared with wild-type. Interestingly, the RYD motif produced a similar IC50 value to the RGD motif at inhibiting A375-SM cell (β3 integrin) adhesion to collagen, whereas the RCD motif was approx. 2–6-fold less potent compared with either RGD or RYD. These findings show that the selectivity of dendroaspin binding to β1 and β3 integrins can be modulated by the introduction of alternative cell recognition sequences.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Lodging has a negative effect on rice production and leads to a great loss in yield and quality. It is necessary to clarify the effects of straw return measures coupled with rice-duck co-culture on lodging and to explore a measure that can improve lodging resistance. A randomized block experiment with six treatments (rice monoculture (RNN), rice-duck co-culture (RND), direct straw return and rice monoculture (RSN), direct straw return coupled with rice-duck co-culture (RSD), straw carbon and rice monoculture (RBN), and straw carbon coupled with rice-duck co-culture (RBD)) was conducted to investigate the mechanism of the change in lodging resistance. RNN’s rice yield was 6258.02 kg ha−1. The yield of RND, RSN, RSD, and RBN increased by 15.51, 3.06, 10.23, and 1.59%, respectively, while RBD decreased by 5.01% relative to RNN. Direct straw return and straw biochar return coupled with rice-duck co-culture has both negative and positive effects on lodging resistance because of its properties. The stem’s mechanical properties were mainly decided by weight, length, plumpness, and culm anatomy. The increased bending moment at breaking, lodging strength, and bending strength with the RND, RSN, RSD, RBN, and RBD treatments increased, indicated an increase in lodging resistance. Our results clearly demonstrate that direct straw return and straw biochar return coupled with rice-duck co-culture could increase the lodging resistance. In total, rice-duck co-culture could increase the lodging resistance with a higher yield. Compared to straw biochar application, straw return can stabilize the yield and improve the lodging resistance of rice. Thus, direct straw return coupled with rice-duck co-culture should be explored for improving lodging resistance under the condition of ensuring yield.

Abstract:
Transport of iodide into thyrocytes, a fundamental step in thyroid hormone biosynthesis, depends on the presence of the sodium–iodide symporter (NIS). The importance of the NIS for diagnosis and treatment of diseases has raised several questions about its physiological control. The goal of this study was to evaluate the influence of thyroid iodine content on NIS regulation by thyrotrophin (TSH) in vivo. We showed that 15-min thyroid radioiodine uptake can be a reliable measurement of NIS activity in vivo. The effect of TSH on the NIS was evaluated in rats treated with 1-methyl-2-mercaptoimidazole (MMI; hypothyroid with high serum TSH concentrations) for 21 days, and after 1 (R1d), 2 (R2d), or 5 (R5d) days of withdrawal of MMI. NIS activity was significantly greater in both MMI and R1d rats. In R2d and R5d groups, thyroid iodide uptake returned to normal values, despite continuing high serum TSH, possibly as a result of the re-establishment of iodine organification after withdrawal of MMI. Excess iodine (0.05% NaI for 6 days) promoted a significant reduction in thyroid radioiodide uptake, an effect that was blocked by concomitant administration of MMI, confirming previous findings that iodine organification is essential for the iodide transport blockade seen during iodine overload. Therefore, our data show that modulation of the thyroid NIS by TSH depends primarily on thyroid iodine content and, further, that the regulation of NIS activity is rapid.

Abstract:
Abstract RADA16-I is an ion-complementary self-assembled peptide with a regular folded secondary conformation and can be assembled into an ordered nanostructure. Dentonin is an extracellular matrix phosphate glycoprotein functional peptide motif-containing RGD and SGDG motifs. In this experiment, we propose to combine RAD and Dentonin to form a functionalized self-assembled peptide RAD/Dentonin hydrogel scaffold. Furthermore, we expect that the RAD with the addition of functional motif Dentonin can promote pulp regeneration. The study analyzed the physicochemical properties of RAD/Dentonin through circular dichroism, morphology scanning, and rheology. Besides, we examined the scaffold’s biocompatibility by immunofluorescent staining, CCK-8 method, Live/Dead fluorescent staining, and 3D reconstruction. Finally, we applied ALP activity assay, RT-qPCR, and Alizarin red S staining to detect the effect of RAD/Dentonin on the odontogenic differentiation of human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs). The results showed that RAD/Dentonin spontaneously assembles into a hydrogel with a β-sheet-based nanofiber network structure. In vitro, RAD/Dentonin has superior biocompatibility and enhances adhesive proliferation, migration, odontogenic differentiation, and mineralization deposition of hDPSCs. In conclusion, the novel self-assembled peptide RAD/Dentonin is a new scaffold material suitable for cell culture and has promising applications as a scaffold for endodontic tissue engineering.

Abstract:
Purpose. To describe the characteristics of rod and cone functions in rat models for congenital stationary night blindness (CSNB) and retinal cone dysfunction (RCD). Methods. Rod and cone function were isolated by recording the rod-/cone-driven flicker and blue light flicker electroretinograms (ERGs). Results. During dark adaptation, the amplitudes of flicker ERGs in CSNB rats were lower than those in control rats; the responses of RCD rats were similar to control rats. During light adaptation, the amplitudes of flicker ERGs in CSNB rats were reduced; whereas the responses of RCD rats were not detected. Blue flicker ERGs were not observed in CSNB rats at lower frequencies. The cone driven critical flicker frequencies (CFFs) in control rats were 62 Hz. The rod driven CFF of RCD rats was 20 Hz; whereas the rod-/cone-driven CFF of CSNB rats both were about 25 Hz. Conclusions. The function of the rod system was damaged completely, the cones were the source of vision in CSNB rats. Rod system function is excellent in RCD rat. The rods of albinism rats are sensitive to frequencies less than 20 Hz; whereas the cones are sensitive to frequencies up to 62 Hz.

Abstract:

Abstract:
In this article, a cylindrical rod phosphor structure was developed and used for laser-driven white lighting. The blue light emitting from the laser diode (LD) with limited divergence enters the cylindrical rod containing phosphor and excites the yellow phosphor particles in the cylindrical rod to generate white light. Multiple phosphor blends with yellow and red phosphors were also applied to the cylindrical rod phosphor structure to enhance the red luminescence of white light with a low correlated color temperature (CCT). An advanced structure with a surrounding transparent layer around the central cylindrical rod containing phosphors was also investigated to enhance the possibility of the blue light absorption by phosphors in the cylindrical rod region away from the LD. The cylindrical rod phosphor structures with or without the surrounding transparent layer were fabricated to produce laser-driven white lighting, and the optical characteristics of the cylindrical rod phosphor structures with different phosphor concentrations or yellow-to-red phosphor weight ratios were examined.

The substrate used in the production of seedlings has a key role in early development of the plant. The objective of this study was to assess the potential of vermicompost as substrates for the production and development of seedlings of lettuce (L. sativa L.). The test was conducted in the greenhouse of the Department of Soils, Universidade Federal de Santa Maria, divided into 10 treatments and seven of ten repetitions. The treatments: T1-Red Residue (RVM), T2-Green Residue (RVD), T3-Residue Red: rice Husk “in nature” – 1: 1 (RVM: CAN 1: 1), T4-Residue Green: Rice husk “in nature” – 1: 1 (RVD: CAN 1: 1), T5-Residue Red: rice Husk Carbonized – 1: 1 (RVM: CAC 1: 1), T6 Residue Green: Rice husk Carbonized – 1: 1 (RVD: CAC 1: 1), T7-Residue Red: Residue green line – 1: 1 (RVM: RVD 1: 1), T8-Residue Green: Rice husk “in nature” – 3: 1 (RVD: CAN 3: 1), T9-Residue Red: rice Husk Carbonized – 3: 1 (RVM: CAC 3: 1) and T10 Fertile Turf (EB). Treatments that had better conditions on the number of leaves, height, fresh and dry biomass production of seedlings was treated with 50% residual red: 50% green waste - RVM: RVD. For the production of lettuce showed that the treatment is effective for plant height was RVM: RVD. For the other treatment variables RVM: CAC had better conditions when we compared the treatment that the CAC was in smaller proportions. It can be inferred that the RVM RVD and mixed with rice hulls and rice husk “fresh” can be used for the production of lettuce seedlings.

Abstract:
Root length density (RLD) and root biomass density (RBD) of fine roots (<2 mm) were examined in a factorial combination of loblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.) and broomsedge (Andropogon virginicus L.) and a factorial combination of sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua L.) and broomsedge to determine the extent to which competition may influence belowground plant response. Broomsedge and sweetgum seedlings were planted, grown for 1 year, and cut before planting of pine seedlings. Sampling occurred 1 year after planting of pine. Broomsedge had a significant negative effect (p < 0.10) on RBD and RLD of sweetgum and loblolly pine in the upper 30 and 45 cm of soil, respectively. RLD and RBD of broomsedge increased with increasing broomsedge density (p < 0.10) and decreased with addition of either tree species, with sweetgum having a greater effect. Patterns in the effects of competitors on RBD and RLD were similar to those noted for aboveground biomass. Specific root length (SRL) of broomsedge was three and five times greater than that of sweetgum or loblolly pine, respectively (p < 0.05). The addition of interspecific competitors reduced the percentage of total RLD of pine and sweetgum and RBD of broomsedge in the 0- to 15-cm soil depth with a corresponding increase in the 15- to 30-cm depth.

Abstract:
In animal models of stroke, behavioral assessments could be complemented by a variety of neuroimaging studies to correlate them with recovery and better understand mechanisms of improvement after stem cell therapy. We evaluated morphological and connectivity changes after treatment with human mesenchymal stem cells (hMSCs) in a rat stroke model, through quantitative measurement of T2-weighted images and diffusion tensor imaging (DTI). Transient middle cerebral artery occlusion rats randomly received PBS (PBS-only), FBS cultured hMSCs (FBS-hMSCs), or stroke patients’ serum cultured hMSCs (SS-hMSCs). Functional improvement was assessed using a modified neurological severity score (mNSS). Quantitative analyses of T2-weighted ischemic lesion and ventricular volume changes were performed. Brain microstructure/connectivity changes were evaluated in the ischemic recovery area by DTI-derived microstructural indices such as relative fractional anisotropy (rFA), relative axial diffusivity (rAD), and relative radial diffusivity (rRD), and relative fiber density (rFD) analyses. According to mNSS results, the SS-hMSCs group showed the most prominent functional improvement. Infarct lesion volume of the SS-hMSCs group was significantly decreased at 2 weeks when compared to the PBS-only groups, but there were no differences between the FBS-hMSCs and SS-hMSCs groups. Brain atrophy was significantly decreased in the SS-hMSCs group compared to the other groups. In DTI, rFA and rFD values were significantly higher and rRD value was significant lower in the SS-hMSCs group and these microstructure/connectivity changes were correlated with T2-weighted morphological changes. T2-weighted volume alterations (ischemic lesion and brain atrophy), and DTI microstructural indices and rFD changes, were well matched with the results of behavioral assessment. These quantitative MRI measurements could be potential outcome predictors of functional recovery after treatment with stem cells for stroke.

Abstract:
Fine root (≤2 mm in diameter) systems play a pivotal role in water and mineral uptake in higher plants. However, the impact of fine root architecture on tree growth and development is not fully understood, especially in apple trees. Here, we summarize a 6-year-trial study using minirhizotrons to investigate the relationships between fine root production, mortality, and longevity in ‘Red Fuji’ trees grafted on five different rootstocks/interstems. Based on root length density (RLD), fine root production and mortality were markedly lower in ‘Red Fuji’ trees growing on dwarfing M.9 (M.9) and Shao series no. 40 (SH.40) rootstocks than in trees on standard Malus robusta ‘Baleng Crab’ (BC) rootstock. The use of M.9 and SH.40 as interstems led to an extensive reduction in fine root production and mortality in comparison with BC rootstock. Root number density (RND), but not average root length (ARL), showed similar patterns to RLD. About one-half of fine roots in ‘Red Fuji’ tree growing on M.9 were scattered within the top 0–20 cm of topsoil, indicating shallow root system in M.9, whereas in trees on BC, 55.15% of fine roots were distributed between 100- and 150-cm soil depth, indicating a deep root architecture. The addition of interstems did not alter fine root soil-depth distribution. For all rootstocks/interstems, fine roots with a life span of less than 80 days were generated in spring and summer, but fine roots which lived for more than 81 days were produced almost all the year round. In conclusion, lower fine root numbers were associated with the dwarfing effect in dwarfing rootstocks/interstems, but ARL and shallower rooting were not.

Materials exhibit different characteristics in different levels. Apparent behavior and properties of the material are based on actual measurements and they were studied by the traditional theorems and theories. The article studied a new method for material analysis--analysis of mechanics of disturbed materials based on theory of duality disturbance. For material in the any deformed state,a given material element can be treated as mixed state included RND( RND: Relatively Non-Disturbed) and RCD (RCD: Relatively Complete Disturbed). "Duality" state is made of references state of RND and RCD.[1-3] The apparent behavior of disturbing engineering materials use appropriate perturbation function to describe which connect with "duality".

Power output was greater in the unrestricted than restricted ROM, and there were strong relationships between rate of torque development (RTD) and velocity development (RVD) with peak power. RTD and RVD had the strongest relationships with power when ROM was restricted and unrestricted, respectively. Following 8 wk of isometric training, discrepancies in power between restricted and unrestricted ROM were reduced. Increasing RTD through isometric training increased power in dynamic movements, especially when ROM was restricted.

Abstract:
The red common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) seedcoat colors produced by the dominant gene R and the dark red kidney gene rkd are very similar, making it difficult for breeders of red bean varieties to know which genotype is in their materials. A protocol employing test crosses with genetic stocks having known genotypes for seedcoat colors was developed to identify genotypes with either of two very similar dark red seedcoat colors: garnet brown controlled by rkd and oxblood controlled by R. Twenty bean varieties and breeding lines were test crossed with genetic tester stocks cu BC3 5-593 and b v BC3 5-593, and four of the varieties were test crossed with [? R] b v BC3 5-593. Analysis of the seedcoat colors and patterns in the F1 progenies from the test crosses demonstrated that unambiguous identification of the genotypes of the two dark red colors could be achieved using the cu BC3 5-593 and b v BC3 5-593 testers. The dark red color (garnet brown) of the Small Red market class materials was demonstrated to be produced by rkd, and the dark red color (oxblood) of `Jacobs Cattle' was demonstrated to be produced by R. A Light Red Kidney market class stock was derived from `Redkloud' and used in two crosses: cu b v rk BC1 5-593 × b v BC3 5-593 and cu b v rk BC1 5-593 × cu BC3 5-593. Classification of the F2 progenies demonstrated that the cu gene does not entirely prevent rk red color from being modified by V. The interactions of rk, rkd, and R with C, cu, G, B, and V are discussed, and previous literature concerning those interactions is critically reviewed.

Abstract:
In order to study the effects of different irrigation amounts on the root characteristics and yield of cotton without film mulching (abbreviated as filmless cotton) under drip irrigation in Southern Xinjiang, five irrigation amounts of filmless cotton (300, 375, 450, 525 and 600 mm, represented by W1, W2, W3, W4 and W5) and one irrigation amount of cotton with film mulching (abbreviated as filmed cotton) (450 mm, represented by WCK) were set. The effects of irrigation amount on root length density (RLD), root surface area (RSA), root average diameter (RAD), root volume (RV), root weight density (RED) and yield of filmless cotton were analyzed. The results of the two-year experiment showed the following: (1) The indexes of cotton root growth reached the maximum at the flowering and bolling stage, and the growth of soil root in the periphery (30 cm from the main root) and the lower layer (40–60 cm soil layer) reached the peak at the flowering and bolling stages, respectively; (2) The average value of root growth index of film-free cotton in each treatment was W2 > W3 > W4 > W5 and W1. The RLD of W2 and W3 increased by 19.41–106.67% and 13.66–84.22% in the peripheral and lower soil layer, and the proportion of RSA in the peripheral and middle soil layer (20–40 cm soil layer) increased by 1.64–3.41% and 0.49–4.09% compared with other treatments. The RAD, RV and RWD after W2 treatment were relatively large at various distribution points in the soil, followed by W3 treatment; (3) The average root indexes of WCK were not significantly different from those of W3, but the indexes of the lower soil layer were the smallest, at only 29.18–66.84% of the average value of the non-film mulching treatment, while the root indexes of the surface layer (0–20 cm soil layer) and the surrounding soil were larger, with an increase of 11.43–102.17% and 29.60–111.57%, respectively, compared with the non-film mulching treatment; (4) The seed cotton yield of W3 was the highest in the non-film mulching treatment, reaching 4833.25 kg·hm−2, but was still lower than that of WCK by 27.79%. Conclusion: An appropriate water deficit is conducive to root growth and increases the uniformity of its distribution in the soil layer. The irrigation amount of 375–450 mm for filmless cotton in Southern Xinjiang can promote root growth, prevent senescence and increase yield, which can be used as a reference in production.

Abstract:
Stimulation of dark-adapted rods can shift the hues associated with specific wavelengths throughout the spectrum: Rods exert a green bias (strengthen green relative to red) at longer wavelengths and a blue bias (strengthen blue relative to yellow) at short-to-middle wavelengths. A third rod influence at shorter wavelengths is more complicated because it has been shown to reverse direction with change of stimulus duration. Thus, for 30-ms stimuli, rods exert a green bias like that observed at longer wavelengths. However, for 1-s stimuli, rods exert a red bias that is observed nowhere else in the spectrum. We examined the latency (time course) of rod hue biases by measuring the shifts of the three spectral unique hues under dark-adapted versus bleached (cone plateau) conditions. The rod green bias at unique yellow (mean 10 nm) and, in contrast to some prior studies, the rod blue bias at unique green (mean 21 nm) were not systematically affected by test stimulus duration. A quick rod green bias (mean 5 nm) was shown at unique blue for two of three observers but was dominated by a slower rod red bias (mean 11 nm) after 30–50 ms of rod stimulation. These opposing rod influences may reflect competing effects of rod signals on ML-cone and S-cone pathways.
