Full textThis thesis presents a study of the functioning of the preposition + quoi structure, characterized by its syntactic, semantic, and discursive use. We analyze the prep. + quoi groups representing the extra-predicative circumstance of a sentence, such as après quoi, à cause de quoi, moyennant quoi, au lieu de quoi, etc. They differ from the prep. + quoi used as essential complements (e.g. à quoi) and intra-predicative circumstances (e.g. en quoi) articulated to a verb. This research is based on a corpus of literary texts, published between 1950 and 2018, listed in Frantext. Compared to other groups such as prep + cela / ça, the prep + quoi structure has specific syntactic uses, characterized by its position at the beginning of the statement. It is interesting to note that quoi often refers to a situation (a process), several situations, or an abstract entity of vague meaning, etc. These referents are represented by different syntactic forms and by different types of segments : a predicative unit, several predicative units, a predicative nominal group, etc., which are specific to a resumptive use. Quoi does not refer to an identified noun, but rather to the unnamed, unclassified. The resumptive use of quoi allows the structure to play a discursive role. We distinguish five discourse values (tense, causality, concession, opposition, and hypothesis) of prepositional groups + quoi and we examine their properties

Full textThe Buddha-nature (skt tathāgatagarbha) is the nature of the Awakened one, the power to get awakened. Who is concerned with it ? What does it consist in ? How can it be realized ? The Indian thinkers wondered whether the Buddha-nature was a positive substance or not ; Chinese people discussed its distribution ; Japanese monks maintened that it was realized by this very body. Dogen recognizes that every being is Buddha-nature, though buddha-nature is not being, should it be original or adventitious being, conditionned or illusory being, substantial self, consciousness, or germinative seed. The Buddha-nature can only be understood through the question : "What is this that thus comes ? " when the moment is precisely thus. It consists in "seeing momentary causes andconditions", everything "is established in dependance of it. " It is no-being, no permanence, becoming-Buddha instant by instant. It is realized through the body of Nagarjuna when dipped into concentration-without-aspect. To whom forsakes any possession and property, practices equally both meditation and wisdom, the Buddha-nature manifests itself as an "opening-gate", "a sun that melts rocks", the light from where seer and seen come out

Full textThe challenges posed by robots operating in human environments on a daily basis and in the long-termpoint out the importance of adaptivity to changes which can be unforeseen at design time. The robot mustlearn continuously in an open-ended, non-stationary and high dimensional space. It must be able to knowwhich parts to sample and what kind of skills are interesting to learn. One way is to decide what to exploreby oneself. Another way is to refer to a mentor. We name these two ways of collecting data sampling modes. The first sampling mode correspond to algorithms developed in the literature in order to autonomously drivethe robot in interesting parts of the environment or useful kinds of skills. Such algorithms are called artificialcuriosity or intrinsic motivation algorithms. The second sampling mode correspond to social guidance orimitation where the teacher indicates where to explore as well as where not to explore. Starting fromthe study of the relationships between these two concurrent methods, we ended up building an algorithmicarchitecture with a hierarchical learning structure, called Socially Guided Intrinsic Motivation (SGIM).We have built an intrinsically motivated active learner which learns how its actions can produce variedconsequences or outcomes. It actively learns online by sampling data which it chooses by using severalsampling modes. On the meta-level, it actively learns which data collection strategy is most efficient forimproving its competence and generalising from its experience to a wide variety of outcomes. The interactivelearner thus learns multiple tasks in a structured manner, discovering by itself developmental sequences

Full textThe ecological crisis that we are experiencing today is simultaneously a scientific, political and moral crisis. In response to this crisis, a multitude of moral demands have emerged in the form of a call for the moralisation of politics and the economy or even so-called ecological concerns about the world we live in. I would like to build into this PhD a pragmatic ecological responsibility that would explain these moral demands. First, in order to do this, I will deal with the concept of responsibility by going back to its etymological sense of “responding to” (ie responding to these demands). This involves explaining and describing what/who the main players themselves care for, and not indicating what they should do. This will also lead me to build the concept of ecology in an unusual meaning: here, it will not refer to nature or the environment but to relations between beings, human or non-human. I will argue the idea that to respond to these moral demands, one has to be interested, without any distinction, with moral issues either ecological or not. Finally, this responsibility is pragmatic because of its empirical approach – I will be interested with “real” moral problems arising from the ecological crisis but also because of the importance that I see in differentiating between this ecological responsibility with any moralising propositions. This way of building the ecological responsibility is therefore both moral and political; these moral demands force us to rethink the political composition of our societies

Full textAn analysis of BRLs' ten years experience in automated mapping is proposed : its insertion in the history of the company; the evolution of its competences and the new definition of its strategy and commercial position in the Languedoc-Roussillon region and abroad. Explicit and implicit requests in geographical information are then analysed in order to define functionalities of a GIS to be built into BRLs' program. This project is divided in applications three of which, considered as essential, are described and their results are presented in a critical way. They concerne BRLs' competences in management and engineering for irrigated perimeters and water resources. Finally, setting up a regional GIS in Languedoc-Roussillon constitutes a unique opportunity to develop, around and thanks to geographical information, some partnerships. These are the only ones able to prove the feasability of gis projects concerning the whole region, which is the referential territory for brl in a large number of its interventions
Reato, Elisa. "La liberté pour quoi faire ? : éthique et politique de l’engagement chez Sartre." Thesis, Paris 10, 2019. http://www.theses.fr/2019PA100078.
Full textThe notion of “engagement” has become central to contemporary moral and political philosophy. This study focuses on Jean-Paul Sartre’s theory of engagement and starts from the assumption that this notion carries with it a new conception of the subject. Most interpretations of Sartre’s engagement theory are founded on the traditional idea of the writer’s commitment and do not consider the works as a whole. Our project goes much further in this direction. The starting point of this investigation is Sartre’s hypothesis which defines man’s freedom in situation, distinct from the conception promoted by the traditional theory of freedom. In order to define the concept of engagement, we investigate the problem in Sartre’s philosophical, literary and political works. This comparison leads us to develop a triadic conception of engagement according to which it can be understood as an anthropological category, as well as a moral and a political one. This research is composed of four chapters, each dealing with a different aspect of “engagement”: chapter 1 investigates the notion of freedom; chapter 2 examines the problem of the other; chapter 3 specifies the consequences in ethics; chapter 4 analyses the possible issues in response to contemporary matters. Finally, we focus on the ambiguity of man’s condition in order to highlight the implications of Sartre’s conception of engagement

Full textSince 1981, when the mafpen were created (teachers'further training agencies), teachers have had to train their peers. This research looks into the motivations causing them to take up these roles. We have carried out two lines of investigations. - what involvement guides them as actors af the institution? -what investment leads them to seek involvement as subjects? we show that conscientized and rationalized involvement is linked to dominantly unconscious investment nurtured by one's life story. The trainer role is here envisaged as a search for atonement for a narcissistic wound that the sole role of teacher cannot compensated. Apart from status recognition, the question is to know how teachers allow themselves to become trainers. This depends much on official authorizations. This research, based on eleven interviews of teacher-trainers uses data analysis. The teacher-trainer as actor has been studied by means of psychosocial paradigms and as subject by psychological ones. Besides this work, this research provides an account of the itinerary followed by the researcher as subject all along the elaboration of her object. This "wandering path" has been questionned as an initiatory route as well as a process of narcissistic atonement. Then is looks as if the investigation of the object of research and the distance covered by the research worker as subject belong to the same existential problematics
Castanet, Hervé. "L'autre sexe et la perversion : en quoi l'oeuvre de Pierre Klossowski regarde la psychanalyse." Paris 8, 1995. http://www.theses.fr/1995PA081082.
Full textThis thesis concerns perversion as a structure. The pervers subject is bound to denying (verleugnung) castration in the other. Through this way, he tries to make the other exist as complet, full, relieved from castration. To do this he tries to reduce himself to the object in which he is identified in the logic of his phantasy. His aim lies only in enjoyment. The pervet fetichises enjoyment. In this attempt, he fails, the other of the law (of castration) separates hi m forever from. . . The other sex. The voyeurist is identified to the object sight which he tries to restitute to the other so as to complete it. The work of pierre klossowski - born in 1905 -, fictional, theoritical and plastic, demonstrates the modalities of this failure of castration. It demonstrates how the subject can give an answer to this failure. We say work insofar as klossowski is his work. Far from the presuppositions of "applied" psychoanalysis, this thesis puts knowledge and teaching on the side of the wor k. It is in this that the work - here klossowski's - is "seen" by psychoanalysis
Romon, Eugénie. "Le Je-ne-sais-quoi et le Presque-rien dans l'œuvre de Soledad Puértolas." Lille 3, 2009. http://www.theses.fr/2009LIL30009.
Full textThe many-sided nature of Soledad Puértolas's writing leads us to study closely the things in common with her various pieces of writing. However hard it may be to define and to classify such phrases as "certain-something" and "scarcely-nothing", they are appropriate to designate the links either within a given genre or between the various genres ever taken up in her writings ; they are as well suitable to qualify the author's own way to apprehend times and spaces. The originality of her writing is conveyed through the variations she can play on respecting permanent features while letting new elements in. Although the genres are different, all her characters are built up in a similar way : they are no heroes, but you can feel the presence of their families in the diegesis and they keep seeking human contacts. Sewing disease and relationship to mother as set of themes in Soledad Puértolas's written work can be defined as "scarcely-nothings". All the characters, narrators or not, being part of the narrative are in charge of an investigation. Soledad Puértolas has a specific conception of time : for her, it refers more to its dismantling then to its construction : a resistance against established order often aims to slowing down the pace of time. Space is considered in a similar way since the author keeps setting up vague spaces, easily transposable despite a great number of town names mentioned. Cinema, photography as well as painting play an important part in such a pictorial writing. Her power of suggestion is a characteristic of her style, molded out of her deliberate will to get a touch of ephemerid deeply rooted in her writings

Full textDeliberative democracy theories allow two different dialogical and rhetorical models which both give a central role to the Parliament: elaborating decisions by way of deliberative discussion and contributing to the formation of the citizens’ judgement by way of contradictory debates. This thesis explores the empirical foundations of these models. Through the argumentative analysis of public session debates and the ethnographical observation of exchanges in committees, it compares the normative ideal to the practices of the French Parliament. Deliberative discussions and contradictory debates thus reveal themselves to be an integral part of parliamentary interactions. Deliberative discussion is mainly deployed in the Sénat and in committees, even though it sometimes emerges at the Assemblée nationale and during public sessions. Its influence on legislation remains limited though not entirely insignificant. On the other hand, the hemicycle of the Assemblée nationale appears to be a prime space for contradictory debate. These results advocate for a bicameral system, which allows the educational and legislative aspects of parliamentary debates to be reconciled. They also highlight the uncertainty of public sessions: far from being restricted to the registering of governmental decisions, these sessions are frequently used to arbitrate and elaborate decisions. Finally, through the inductive analysis of the collected data, this study is the opportunity to put forward a contribution to political theory: identifying the argumentative characteristics of deliberative discussion, confirming and pointing out the virtues of contradictory debate, and clarifying the effects of an in camera environment on discussions

The singular history of the Lavoix family gives ways to interpretation of social experiments and behaviours of a population who live in a disqualified space. How do one live nowadays in this city. What is the narrator's point of view on the way they are perceived ? What signification do they give to their social behaviour ? What can be said about value systems and identity references ? Observation reveals tensions and underlines precariousness and violence of situations. It insists on the power of bounding. This thinking process questions the topic of exclusion which, on a regular basis, occults the political debate on inequality. It questions topics like otherness and change and the perception of popular districts seen as micro social universes and human isolates

Embezzling capitalism in a global social and political project encompasses the combination of utopianism (the aim of intra- and trans-generational justice) and strategy taking into account the clashes of interests within the economic and political spheres. Substainable Development involves a redefinition of the different kinds of responsability for corporations : economic, social, societal, political. Multinationals should also pay attention to the cultural aspect of development. The search of worldwide implementation of sustainable development implies the ethical education of the elites and the assessment of the global role of States and institutions in order to define the compulsory aspect of corporate social responsability. Full textCould it be that movies did not started talking because they had something to say, but in order to make the speech speak, to overhear it, to inform the discursive imaginaries that shape our common experience ? Could it be that language is at the very heart of the art of film, as it has been at the centre of modern theoretical knowledges ? Our times have invented the means of reproducing speech technically, but we have probably not fully appreciated the importance of the anthropological revolution induced by the exceptional visibility that it provides to it. Our hypothesis is that there is a cinematographic thought of language and of its uses, an aesthetical, rhetorical and poetical knowledge that is added to speech when it is represented in films. Putting the filmed speech in the centre of the analysis of four cinematographic fables — Fritz Lang’s Fury (1936), Sidney Lumet’s Fail Safe (1963), Pier Paolo Pasolini’s Salò (1975) and Jean-Luc Godard’s Film Socialisme (2010) — our work proposes four « language lessons », questioning the powers and misfortunes of speech in a world convinced that we communicate massively. What do films think when they talk ? Among other things, they meditate the social and political significance of speech acts

Full textCarl Sternheim's drama (1878-1942) has long been considered as a satire of German bourgeoisie under Wilhelm II. In 1963, referring to the playwright himself, W. Emrich stated that this drama is “the very opposite of satire” and an incentive for everyone to bring out his/her own “nuance”. Since then, this major point has been much debated. This dissertation confronts those contradictory appreciations, through the analysis of seven plays written between 1910 and 1922 and studied together according to their themes, examining their genesis, their “schema actantiel” and the texts themselves. It also resorts to the analysis of staging practices presented in press reviews or to film adaptations. This dissertation concludes that these plays extol individualism – which has led to differing interpretations and to a frequent lack of understanding from the public; it nevertheless has a satirical dimension which is not directed at a social class in particular but at any stereotyped behaviour

Full textWe want to define the limitations content revealed by the theorems of formalisms limitation (Godel's theorems of 1931, Church's theorem of 1936 and Turing's theorem of 1936-1937). In order to answer this question, we have accepted as main theme Hilbert' s program (in the broad sense) : on the one hand, the answer that Hilbert hoped to give to foundations problem, and on the other hand, the justification he hoped to give to the lack of insoluble mathematical problems. This first lead us to propose a precise interpretation of the two aspects of this program. We have then analyzed the various proposals which have been given in answer this program, including in particular Michael Detlefsen'one, taking into account arithmetical indecidability results obtained in the 1970's. In this aim we have made a detailed analysis of Church-Turing's thesis. We have also discussed the different positions which have been held within the framework induced by Lucas-Penrose's argument. We have then discussed Post, Myhill and Ladrière's successively answers given to the general question asked. On the basis on this whole analysis, our own answer is that these theorems show a kind of relativity in relation with the use of formalization itself, which must be rooted in a confined part of the empirical practice of informal mathematics

Full textThis comparative study examines the interrogative, percontative, relative (with antecedent)and integrative (with no antecedent) uses of quoi the indefinite pronoun in French and itsequivalents mā and māḏā in Arabic. Our corpus is taken from twentieth century literature, especially novels and plays of Margueritte Duras and Marcel Pagnol for French, and NaguibMahfouz for Arabic. We first see how the uses of these three pronouns are governed by theircharacteristics and syntactic properties. We analyze the syntactic behavior of mā and māḏā intheir interrogative uses compared with their French equivalent quoi. We will see that there aresimilarities and differences between the two languages, especially regarding their syntacticautonomy in their position in the sentence. We also examine the use of quoi, mā and māḏā insubordination, as percontatifs, relatives and integratives. Our analysis shows that the differentforms of percontative are explained by the characteristics of the three pronouns. For the lasttwo uses, there are many points of divergence between mā and quoi, especially regarding thetype of antecedent being used. In terms of integrative use mā, through its syntactic properties, admits more functions in the sentence than its equivalent quoi

Full textThis thesis assumes a grounded approach to social cognition, which defends that our abilities to understand others’ mental states rely on our immediate experience of sensori-motor informations in social interactions and do not need any inference processes. Some critical theorethical limits have been addressed to this approach to social cognition. Typically, it is considered that this conception can not explain high order mentalization, as, for example, the inference of social intentions, because there are not systematic links between those cognitive constructs and the systems of perception and action. Through the studies of this thesis, we have in a first time showed that the kinematics of voluntary movements are influenced by the type of social intention that is endorsed by participants. Precisely, when an action is produced for a partner, its spatio-temporal characteristics are amplified. Then, we have demonstrated that these kinematic variations are influenced by the physical properties of the partner, and particularly by the eyes’ level. Finally, our results showed that these typical kinematic variations are implicitly processed during social interaction and that they can trigger spontaneous social intention attribution. Interestingly, the ability of participants to access others’ mental states from motor action variations is strongly related to their explicit mentalizing performances. In sum, this thesis provides the first experimental evidences supporting the possibility to spontaneously access to others’ social intentions from perceptive and motor processes

Full textBased on Gérard Genette’s work, particularly Figures III, anarratological analysis of Muriel Barbery’s L’Élégance du hérisson (2006) is conductedin order to understand the links between the specificities of the narrative mode andtheir effects on the space of the story, the "fish bowl". Ultimately, we answer thisquestion: In which way the narrative in the novel L’Élégance du hérisson allows toproperly render the metaphor of the "fish bowl".
