La storia degli ebrei nell'Italia contemporanea è stata molto discussa dalla recente storiografia. In questa nota si prendono in esame quattro libri pubblicati tra il 2018 e il 2020 che affrontano il tema da prospettive differenti come il ruolo politico degli ebrei nell'Italia liberale e negli anni della grande guerra, la storia delle persecuzioni in età fascista, il problematico avvento della Repubblica, la raffigurazione degli ebrei e di Israele nelle sinistre italiane e la più generale percezione di Israele nel mondo politico e culturale italiano.

Abstract:

Il presente studio si propone di ripercorrere le vicende relative alla comunita ebraica genovese, specie nel suo rapporto con gli spazi cittadini, negli anni compresi tra i primi Capitoli della nazione ebrea concessi nel 1658 e l'ultima espulsione dalla citta, decretata nel 1737 e concretizzatasi sei anni dopo. Conseguentemente all'arrivo a Genova di un certo numero di ebrei, nell'agenda politica del patriziato si impose la questione del ghetto, che richiedeva lo studio di soluzioni di natura urbanistica ma che d'altra parte presentava ricadute sociali, economiche e culturali da valutare con grande attenzione. Lo smantellamento dei cancelli del ghetto avvenuto nel 1679, e la collocazione degli ebrei nel tessuto urbano, rendeva necessario ripensare la convivenza tra la popolazione autoctona e questa minoranza. Il mancato raggiungimento dell'equilibrio, le difficolta legate all'individuazione di una nuova area per l'erezione di un nuovo ghetto, oltre al definitivo tramonto dell'idea di riattivare un imponente traffico commerciale con il Levante, furono i motivi che causarono nel 1737 la revoca dei Capitoli e la conseguente cacciata degli ebrei dalla citta.

Abstract:

Il presente contributo indaga la questione del fondamento della legge morale ebraica sulla scorta dell’insegnamento di Samuel David Luzzatto (1800-1865). Egli afferma che le norme etiche sono insite nell’essere umano, ma questo non basta perché vengano rispettate: la rivelazione divina sostiene quindi la morale naturale, senza insegnare nulla di diverso da quest’ultima, ma fornendo un’adeguata propedeutica e prevedendo sanzioni e premi chiari. Soltanto il monoteismo, con il suo necessario corollario cultuale, può dunque fondare una morale efficace, che si manifesta essenzialmente nel praticare umanità e giustizia verso tutti gli esseri umani. This paper investigates the Jewish moral law’s foundation according with teaching of Samuel David Luzzatto (1800-1865). He affirms that ethical norms come from human being, but this is not enough for them to be respected: therefore divine revelation supports natural morality, teaching the same, but providing adequate preparation and providing penalties and rewards. Only monotheism, with its necessary worships, can therefore found an effective morality. It appears essentially in humanity and justice towards all human beings.

La costituzione apostolica Antiqua Iudaeorum Improbitas (1581 e 1593) costituě un importante tassello nella storia delle relazioni tra gli ebrei italiani (o ebrei che in Italia abitavano) e l'Inquisizione romana. Grazie a questa disposizione, infatti, la Congregazione del Sant'Uffizio fu investita formalmente di pieni poteri di controllo sugli ebrei, allo scopo di conservare e proteggere quei principi di fede quae sunt communia tra ebraismo e cristianesimo. Tale assunto fu immediatamente usato per sorvegliare ogni aspetto della vita ebraica, dalle questioni di natura strettamente religiosa fino alla trattazione delle materie di ambito genericamente culturale o, addirittura, economico. Nella vasta gamma di casi affrontati su questa base, spiccano i viaggi degli ebrei nei territori turchi ed ogni conversione all'Islam; anche l'apostasia dall'ebraismo, infatti, venne considerata un tradimento di quei principi. Leggendo le confessione spontanee rese dagli ebrei, i dubbi e le risposte a questi stilati dai consultori sulla base della letteratura giuridica e della trattazione di casi precedenti, č possibile riflettere da una nuova prospettiva sia sulla storia degli ebrei italiani nell'etÀ del ghetto, sia sull'evoluzione della stessa Inquisizione romana.

ObjectivesTo provide a formative educational test of knowledge that allows clinicians to measure themselves against their peers.DesignAnnual Neurosurgery and Neurology knowledge tests, supported by the ABN & SBNS, have been available since 2014 (NSurg) and 2017 (Neurol). The NSurg test requires all candidates to participate over 3 days, answers are available after the test whereas the Neurol formative questions are available over 6 weeks, answers are available immediately.SubjectsThere have been 821 first attempts at the formative questions; NSurg; 44, 63,187,143,164 and Neurol; 74, 146. Candidates are mostly from UK (NSurg 92%, Neurol 69%) and mostly specialty trainees (NSurg 98%, Neurol 63%).MethodsThe formative questions are delivered through the ebrain virtual learning platform, statistics are generated automatically. Proposed questions are written by candidates as ‘payment’ for doing the formative test.ResultsMean Cronbach’s alpha was 87.3%. The mean score for the tests was 60.4% (Range 55.9%–77.9%). Feedback is voluntary: In 2018 17 feedback comments were received, 10 were unambiguously positive, 5 were mixed including criticism of one or more questions, 2 were judged to be neutral. Examples of feedback comments received this year included ‘Comprehensive exam that covers a wide range of topics’ and ‘This is of great value’.ConclusionsThis formative educational initiative has high internal consistency and solid feedback. Although set up differently, it is proving both valuable and popular in both specialties.

Abstract:

RiassuntoL’articolo descrive e discute i primi risultati di una ricerca ancora in corso relativa alla persecuzione degli ebrei cattolici da parte del fascismo dopo la promulgazione delle leggi razziali del 1938. Le fonti su cui poggia l’articolo provengono dall’Archivio storico della Segreteria di Stato della città del Vaticano e riguardano le richieste di aiuto pervenute alla Santa Sede all’indomani della legislazione antisemita promulgata dal fascismo a partire da quell’anno. Le leggi razziali colpirono non solo quegli italiani di religione ebraica ma anche coloro che, pur convertiti al cattolicesimo in anni precedenti al 1938, risultavano secondo i parametri fissati dall’antisemitismo fascista comunque ebrei. Le fonti si suddividono in due principali tipologie: un primo gruppo riguarda lettere scritte dai perseguitati che chiedevano alla Santa Sede di intervenire in loro favore in quanto cattolici; il secondo insieme di fonti è rappresentato dai dispacci e dai documenti prodotti dalla Segreteria di Stato della Santa Sede relativamente alla questione dei convertiti e alle possibili soluzioni da adottare per salvarli e al contempo cercando di non mettere a rischio gli equilibri stabilitisi con il regime. L’articolo, grazie a una documentazione inedita, avvia una prima riflessione su un tema scarsamente indagato dalla storiografia e che invece propone nuove prospettive storiche sui processi politico-religiosi riguardanti la persecuzione antiebraica e in particolar modo la situazione specifica degli ebrei cattolici.

SOMMARIO: In questo lavoro, la sofi/a (sophía) e la Bildung sono interpretate come i due cardini di un discorso che riguarda l’essere umano inteso come possibilità significante. Bildung e Umbildung vengono problematizzate in relazione al significare del mistero umano. La questione del mysterium hominis è trattata, all’interno della filosofia della formazione, in riferimento al significato originario del greco mystèrion sino all’interpretazione pedagogica dell’esperienza ebraico-cristiana del Mmistero di Dio (Mysterium Dei).ABSTRACT: In this work, the sofi/a (sophía) and the Bildung are interpreted as the two poles of a speech which regards the human being understood as a significant possibility. Bildung and Umbildung gets problematic in relation to the meaning of the human mystery. The question of mysterium hominis is dealing, inside the philosophy of formation, referring to the original greek meaning of mystèrion until the christian-hebrew experience of uncreated Mmystery (Mysterium Dei). Key words: philosophy, Bildung, Umbildung, mýo-sphere, mystery, mystification, truth, doubt, irony, astonishment, mystical theology.SOMMAIRE: Dans cette oeuvre, la sofi/a (sophía) et la Bildung sont interprétées comme les deux pivots d’une discussion qui concerne l’être humain entendu comme possibilité signifiante. Bildung et Umbildung sont rendues problématiques par rapport au signifié du mystère humain. La question du mysterium hominis est traitée, dans la philosophie de la formation, par rapport à la signification originelle du grec mystèrion jusqu’à l’expérience judéo-chrétienne du Mysterium Dei.

Abstract:

The description of neural dynamics, in terms of precise characterizations of action potential timings and shape and voltage related measures, is fundamental for a deeper understanding of the neural code and its information content. Not only such measures serve the scientific questions posed by experimentalists but are increasingly being used by computational neuroscientists for the construction of biophysically detailed data-driven models. Nonetheless, online resources enabling users to perform such feature extraction operation are lacking. To address this problem, in the framework of the Human Brain Project and the EBRAINS research infrastructure, we have developed and made available to the scientific community the NeuroFeatureExtract, an open-access online resource for the extraction of electrophysiological features from neural activity data. This tool allows to select electrophysiological traces of interest, fetched from public repositories or from users’ own data, and provides ad hoc functionalities to extract relevant features. The output files are properly formatted for further analysis, including data-driven neural model optimization.

Abstract:

Starting from a research on the consilia sapientis by Paul de Castro, we have identified the case of conflicts of jurisdiction between civil law and ius canonicum, and in one of the most significant cases of that conflict - i.e. the debate about the prohibition of the usury on loans -, the principal scope of the survey, that otherwise would insist on a more heterogeneous material. Extending the research to the universitary works of Paul and of his contemporaries and masters, one could observe how the figure of Paul de Castro acquire a key relief. So much so that the interpretations of this jurist became the reference theories (the ill-famed communis opinion) for the jurists of the early modern age. In particular - and it is a new event on the state of the art - we observe that the opinions expressed in consulendo assume an absolute value, suggesting once again as the approach to applied cases of law was considered by jurists of time not lesser than Lecturae and Commentaria by the scholars. Commentaria tend to establish with minor variations the interpretative principle of law, with its ratio and cross references to other legislations, on the spirit of the utrumque ius. Principles that remained valid even if in practice their application in the Courts was bent to the changing requirements of law and society. In this way Paulus de Castro reiterates the opinio Bartoli about the conflicts of jurisdiction, reaffirming that in the lands subject to the Pope’s power ius canonicum prevails on the ius civile; which in turn is subjected to the canon laws even in the lands subject to the secular power in those cases where it would endanger the salvation of the soul. But, having to advise on a specific applied case, other priorities arise in the eyes of an experienced jurist, who is not afraid to bend the rigid principle in an answer that encourages the positive solution of the lawsuit. So he contributes not only to keep the common law in step with the times in rapid mutation, but to create an actual new law preserving the very foundations of the traditional one. In the specific case of the debate about usury, what we have now said seems evident. Once again, in legendo, Paul confirms the principle of the absolute prohibition to the usurary loan. But in many cases where the problem arises in the practice of the Court, the solutions are much more elastic than the principle: Paul, e. g., takes on the proposals of the Hostiensis (already carried out by Franciscans summistae) to distinguish from the usury a lawful interest. Intending, to return interests by the lender, the profits that from that money, in so far it would presumably intended to the trade, could derive if it for charity purposes would not distracted for the people in need. That thesis led to the creation of new contract figures and professional realities, thus creating new laws and giving fresh impetus to the economics. Paul’s thesis - as observe Poliakov - was held by the jurisprudence and marked the milestone of the debate on usury during the Renaissance.

Abstract:

La tesi tenta di analizzare il dibattito intorno all'introduzione del divorzio nell'ordinamento giuridico italiano, nel periodo immediatamente successivo all'unificazione d'Italia. Come ho avuto modo di analizzare, tale questione ebbe un percorso piuttosto travagliato e controverso iniziato già nel 1878 con la prima proposta di legge sul divorzio di Salvatore Morelli. Il mio studio parte da un’ottica di storia dell’ebraismo e per tanto ho tentato di analizzare come l’introduzione del matrimonio civile obbligatorio e indissolubile, creato sullo schema del matrimonio canonico, previsto dal Codice Pisanelli del 1865, introdusse all'interno del mondo ebraico modelli esterni a quest’ultimo. Mi sono quindi proposta di ricostruire la dinamica che vide l’accettazione del matrimonio civile come parte integrante del processo di emancipazione degli ebrei iniziato alla fine del secolo XVIII e sviluppatasi pienamente nel corso dell’Ottocento. Ho posto poi un’attenzione particolare alla questione dell’estensione dei codici italiani alla Venezia-Giulia, in seguito all'annessione all'Italia di questi territori dopo la prima guerra mondiale. Ho analizzato inoltre la questione dei divorzi in fraudem legis dovuta alla sussistenza in queste ex provincie dell’Impero austro-ungarico dei precedenti codici che riconoscevano la dissolubilità del vincolo matrimoniale per le confessioni che lo prevedevano, come nel caso dell’ebraismo, cercando di contestualizzare tale pratica. Mi sono poi soffermata sulla situazione della comunità ebraica triestina, fortemente integrata all'interno della società cittadina, e di come questa visse in parte negativamente l’introduzione dell’indissolubilità del vincolo matrimoniale imposta dallo Stato italiano con il R.D n°352 20/3/1924.

Abstract:

This chapter discusses the relationship between Selden and Milton on family law. Like that of the first family in paradise, it may be mutual, although not equal. Milton drew on Selden’s scholarship for his ideas about concubinage, polygamy, the church’s meddling in marriage, and especially divorce. But Selden’s ownership of two Miltonic treatises on divorce, Tetrachordon and Colasterion (1645), both of them presumably acquired while he was writing Uxor Ebraica (1646), complicates the question of influence and suggests a possible reverse motion of spirit. The chapter begins by describing some of the differences between Selden’s two discussions of family law, both cited by Milton, the primordial, universal, natural law in De Jure Naturali et Gentium and the civil law of the Jews in Uxor Ebraica. Various hints—seedlings—in Milton’s Tetrachordon might have germinated in Selden’s mind to become the majestic flowering plant that occupies the four full chapters (3.20–3) of Uxor Ebraica devoted to the key phrases on divorce in Deuteronomy 24:1 and Matthew 5:32. Milton expanded the meaning of the Bible’s word fornication to include non-sexual sins or defects. Selden, relying mainly on the Talmud, would have retrojected Miltonic ideas into the debate over divorce that he established as occurring in the first century BCE.
