Abstract:
Time and experience lie at the heart of urban life. While extensive research on the social implications of the spatial transformation of urban landscapes has been undertaken since the 1980s, the discussion of the impact that manifold temporalities and sensory experiences might have in shaping or constraining the physical and social change of a neighbourhood have been limited, however. Existing research has a tendency to focus on a specific period in time within the remaking of a neighbourhood and draws conclusions from this window in time on the impact of the regeneration. By drawing on a longitudinal ethnographic study of the regeneration of el Raval, Barcelona from 1996 to now, this article interrogates how a focus on temporality and experience produce interruptions of power in contemporary urban regeneration processes leading to what I define as a `resistance of place’. While there have been attempts to regenerate el Raval since the early 20th century, most dramatically during the last 20 years to create Barcelona’s new cultural quarter, the neighbourhood has not been gentrified and developed as expected by Barcelona’s city council. I argue that while elements of control, discipline and gentrification are certainly part of global contemporary regeneration strategies, temporal and experiential dynamics destabilise their full implementation so that these elements are only partial in their imposition.

Abstract:
In the article, the author reveals the specifics of the artistic and aesthetic views of the outstanding French composer based on the study of the musical text of M. Ravel's chamber-instrumental composition and musicological literature. The authors substantiate the idea of the significance of literary sources for the formation of Ravel's compositional style. Using the analytical method, the author identifies the compositional, dramatic, melodic, textural and Lado-harmonic features of the Ravel string Quartet (1903). The use of the comparative analysis method allowed us to determine the similarity and difference of the approaches Of M. Ravel and C. Debussy in the interpretation of the string Quartet genre. Consideration of the string Quartet in the context Of M. Ravel's work allowed the author to clarify certain aspects of the composer's creative method, to Supplement the ideas about his aesthetic and ideological principles.

Abstract:
Paul Wittgenstein's commissioning of concertos for piano left-hand is as enviable a legacy as any performer could wish to have, centred as it is on concertos by Korngold, Franz Schmidt (who also penned for Wittgenstein a set of Concertante Variations on a theme of Beethoven with orchestra and three piano quintets), Richard Strauss, Prokofiev, Britten (his op. 21 Diversions) and Ravel. Yet the maimed pianist's quixotic attitude to the works he received is almost as remarkable. Ravel he offended by the liberties he took with the solo part, while Prokofiev's Concerto No. 4 languished unplayed for a quarter of a century, until three years after the composer's death. Yet these cases pale into insignificance compared to the treatment meted out to the concerto that Paul Hindemith wrote for Wittgensein in 1923.

Abstract:
Objective:To explore commonalities and differences in the sociodemographic, health, and neuropsychological characteristics of participants with SCD recruited in two culturally differentiated cohort studies, namely CIMA-Q (Canada; Bellevile et al., 2019) and CompAS (Spain; Juncos et al., 2012).Methods:Older adults with subjective cognitive complaints of the CompAS (N=251; 68.92% women; Control: 30.3%; SCD: 25.9%; MCI: 28.7%) and the CIMA-Q (N=179; 71.5% women; Control:16.1%; SCD: 36.8%; MCI:28.6%) were recruited, respectively, from primary care centers and memory clinics, excluding patients with dementia and other neurological or psychiatric disturbances. Cognitive complaints were assessed considering coincident items of the QAM and MFE questionnaires. Cut-off points for the 5%ile were calculated independently in both samples and according to this, participants were classified as SCD or controls (CompAS: N= 141; CIMA-Q: N=161) considering complaints relevance at baseline (Pereiro et al., 2021). Participants underwent neuropsychological assessment. Participants diagnosed as Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) were excluded from the analysis. Between cohort-studies and inter-group (control, SCD) differences were tested in the sociodemographic, health and neuropsychological measures considered. The Holm-Bonferroni correction was applied to reduce the probability of type I error (p<.003).Results:Identical cut-off points for 5%ile were obtained in both samples though SCD prevalence was slightly higher in CIMA-Q. For both samples, equivalence between Control and SCD participants in sociodemographic, health, functionality, and neuropsychological measures was observed. Only complaints and depressive symptomatology was significantly higher in SCD participants than in controls in both CompAS and CIMA-Q studies.Participants of the CIMA-Q, Controls and SCD, showed significantly higher age, cognitive reserve proxies, comorbidity, and better attentional performance than the CompAS participants (see Table 1). CompAS participants, Controls and SCD, showed more neuropsychiatric symptomatology than CIMA-Q participants (see Table 1).Conclusions:Control and SCD participants showed equivalence on sociodemographic, health, functional, and neuropsychological measures in both studies. However, significant between-sample differences in the two groups, particularly in SCD participants, were observed in sociodemographic, health, cognitive reserve, behavioral and attentional measures. Identification of these factors are critical to analyze the transcultural validity of cognitive complaints in predicting progression to AD.Table 1Between group (control, SCD) and Between study (CIMA-Q, CompAS) differences in sociodemographic, health, and cognitive measuresCIMA-QCompASBetween-studies differencesBetween-group differencesBetween-group differencesControlSCDSociodemographicsAgeNSNSCIMA-Q>CompAS; F(1,124)=22.78; p<.001CIMA-Q>CompAS; F(1,172)=36.97; p<.001GenderNSNSNSNSSchooling (years)NSNSNSCIMA-Q>CompAS; F(1,172)=20.74; p<.001Prof. qualificationNSNSCIMA-Q>CompAS; χ24=18.18; p=001CIMA-Q>CompAS; χ24=33.95; p<001Cognitive reserve (quartiles)NSNSCIMA-Q>CompAS; χ23=13.57; p=004CIMA-Q>CompAS;χ23==42.56; p<001Memory familiar antecedentsNSNSNSCIMA-Q>CompAS; χ21==15.03; p<001NeuropsychologySubjective complaints*SCD>Control; F(1,119)=147.17, p<.001)SCD>Control; F(1,177)=192.87, p<.001NSNSCharlson Index*SCD>Control; F(1,115)=5.29, p=.023NSCIMA-Q>CompAS; F(1,123)=394.96; p<.001CIMA-Q>CompAS; F(1,168)=335.98; p<.001General cognitionNS (MoCA)NS (CAMCOG-R)----GDS-15*SCD>Control; F(1,119)=8.60, p=.004SCD>Control; F(1,176)=11.97, p<.001NSNSTMT-A (secs.)*NSNSNSNSTMT-B (secs.)*NSNSCompAS>CIMA-Q; F(1,118)=12.56; p<.001CompAS>CIMA-Q; F(1,163)=21.74; p<.001Verbal fluencyNSNSNSNSSemantic fluencyNSNSNSNSBoston testNSNSNSNSNPI-QNSNSCompAS>CIMA-Q; F(1,119)=16.68; p<.001CompAS> CIMA-Q; F(1,162)=24.46; p<.001Immediate recall (RAVL test)NSNSNSNSShort delay (RAVL test)NSNSNSNSLong delay(RAVL test)NSNSNSNSIntrusions (RAVL test)NSNSNSNSIAVD*NSNSNSNSNote: *On these measures, higher scores denote worse cognition or health condition. Abstract:
Summary: The main direction of the article is the study of the leading aesthetic attitudes and ideas of F. Busoni, who influenced the development of music in the twentieth century. The purpose of the work is to systematize and generalize the representations of musicians of the twentieth century on the role of F. Busoni in the development of composer and performing musical art. For this, a comprehensive, hermeneutic, comparative approach is applied. In his books, F. Busoni outlined many ways in which the music of the twentieth century subsequently developed – from an expanded interpretation of tonality, harmony and harmony to new ways of composition, which he summarized in his letter to P. Becker as “new classicism”. The aesthetic views and ideas of F. Busoni expressed by him in relation to both composer and performing creativity were repeatedly discussed by the composer in a polemic with A. Schoenberg and G. Pfitsner, were supported by his students L. Grünberg, O. Luning, as well as many other composers and performers in the twentieth century. Attempts at creating F. Busoni’s new modal structures summarized the leading directions in the search for “new expressiveness” from N. Rimsky-Korsakov, M. Mussorgsky and the late A. Scriabin to O. Messian, P. Hindemith and B. Bartok. The composer’s desire to expand the ability of the fret by dividing it not by semitones, but by quarter tones and less influenced his creation of plans for the production of a new instrument – harmonium for producing a third of tones, which anticipated subsequent experiments and achievements in the field of electronic music. His aesthetic attitudes regarding the expression of feelings in the measures of art “opened” the discussion regarding the art of interpretation, dividing the music audience into two camps – who welcomed the freedom of expression of the musician-performer and who considered the requirements of musical objectivity to be quite justified, like M. Ravel, P. Hindemith and I. Stravinsky. It was they who supported the aesthetic essence of “new classicism” formulated by F. Busoni in the ideals of clear logic, a sense of style and the high art of polyphony – all those qualities that were his guide in the music of I.S. Bach. Formulated in the works of the composer, aesthetic views and ideas continue to develop and make sense in the musical art of the twenty-first century.

Abstract:
BackgroundMedication administration is a high risk and error prone task for the trained healthcare professional,1 however, there is little emphasis on training parents how to administer medications until the point of discharge.2–4 The transition from the neonatal unit to home is an anxious and stressful time for parents and ‘one has to question the amount of learning that actually occurs when important information is taught under these circumstances’.2AimExplore current practice and the concept of parent-led administration of medication on the neonatal unit to determine if parents feel adequately prepared for the transition to home.MethodA case study approach using mixed methods explored the perspectives of neonatal parents and healthcare professionals. The views of both parties on parent-led administration of medication were identified and quantified using a web-based questionnaire, followed by a qualitative virtual focus group. Participants were recruited from a single research site.ResultsA total of 50 neonatal parents participated in the study (44 questionnaire; 6 focus group). Two thirds of questionnaire respondents (65.9%, n=29/44) reported some degree of stress with administering medication, and focus group participants described how inconsistent advice contributed to their stress. Although parents involved with medicine administration were less likely to feel stressed, their involvement was limited to administering pre-measured doses. Two thirds of neonatal parent participants (65.9%, n=29/44) suggested introducing parent involvement early in the neonatal journey.A total of 64 healthcare professionals participated in the study (60 questionnaire; 4 focus group) which mostly comprised of neonatal nurses (70%, n=42). Despite acknowledging that parents should take an active role in their baby’s care, healthcare professionals expressed concerns around the practicalities and accountability of parents administering doses whilst in the healthcare setting. Just over a quarter said it was safe for parents to administer medicines while on the neonatal unit but that it was dependent on the drug. Healthcare professionals identified that clear guidance was needed to promote change and allay concerns around relinquishing control with the task of medication administration.Triangulation informed the development of a family-centred protocol for parent-led administration of medication. The protocol provides the neonatal healthcare professionals with a unified and safe approach to parent-led medication administration.ConclusionThis study established that current practice with medication administration on the neonatal unit is nurse-led and identified a cautious support for parent-led administration of medication from the healthcare professionals. Although the small sample size limits the generalisability of the findings beyond the research site, this study suggests for the first time, a family-centred protocol for parent-led administration of medication that provides a clear framework for healthcare professionals to facilitate parent participation whilst ensuring patient safety. Further research is needed to test the feasibility of the protocol.ReferencesNguyen M-NR, Mosel C, Grzeskowiak LE. Interventions to reduce medication errors in neonatal care: a systematic review. Abstract:
This thesis proposes a sociology of the regulation of Islam in gentrifying neighborhoods of European cities. More specifically, it focuses on the form that this process, considered as the set of practices and discourses that contribute to defining and conditioning religious expressions, acquires in central neighborhoods undergoing a multidimensional urban transformation and a progressive gentrification of their population. The research question of the thesis seeks to discern what conditions the place and the forms of visibility of Islam in these urban spaces. In this perspective, the manuscript chapters describe a process through which religious manifestations (places of worship, specialized shops, commemorations and public festivities, bodily and clothing expressions, etc.) are defined and regulated in these urban contexts. The research draws on constructivist and critical perspectives from the sociology of religions, secularism, and laïcité. We claim that we need to observe all the actors – especially those called “secular” – and the processes that contribute to defining the place of Islam in the European public space. The thesis takes part of the “spatial” turn in social sciences and, more particularly, in the contributions that have dealt with the relationship between religious manifestations and urban space. It claims to deepen this dialectical analysis by observing how this relationship is made in a context of gentrification. It tries to open up new avenues for research in the field of urban studies, where the question of religions has been little addressed in the literature on gentrification. The thesis is based on long qualitative research (2016-2019) conducted from a comparative perspective in two neighborhoods from different national contexts: Goutte d’Or (Paris, France), and Raval (Barcelona, Spain). The data collection was carried out through 67 semi-structured interviews, including 34 in Goutte d’Or and 33 in Raval. This corpus does not capture the “public opinion” of the two neighborhoods, but the representations and discourses of a heterogeneous set of actors participating in the definition of the public space and the regulation of Islam. These interviews were completed by an ethnographic approach through nearly a hundred observation sessions of various civic activities in the two neighborhoods. Finally, a large corpus of documents was compiled, analyzing reports from the city councils, articles from the local press, various association brochures and materials, and local government programs concerning urban transformation and religious management. The manuscript is structured in 6 chapters. The first is introductory and serves to present the theoretical framework and the methodological tools, while the second presents and justifies the neighborhoods where the survey was conducted. The results are disseminated through the 4 remaining chapters, each of which present the different empirical materials collected and follows a logic that responds to the sociological question and the established hypotheses

Abstract:
Abstract It seems to me a very hopeful sign that the present widespread interest in unwritten music (be it European or Afro-American folk-songs and dances or native music from any quarter of the globe) apparently does not emanate from any reaction against the latest iconoclastic developments of our written art music, but that, on the contrary, it is mainly in the ranks of the most highly cultured musicians (men whose depth of heart and brain makes them equally capable of appreciating the glorious creations of the great classics and the no less thrilling achievements of the most extreme modernists of to-day) that we meet with the keenest interest in this ‘back to the land’ movement. Among those who have recently devoted themselves most ardently to the labor of actually collecting so-called ‘primitive’ music of various kinds or in whose creative work direct or indirect contact with it has proven the most fruitful we find the names of such advanced composers as Stravinsky, Debussy, Ravel, Albeniz, Granados, Cyril Scott, Vaughan Williams, Balfour Gardiner1 and Ferruccio Busoni, while the great Frederick Delius.
