Abstract:
The carbon nanotube (CNT) structure is a promising building block for future nanocomposite structures. Mechanical properties of the electrospun butadiene elastomer reinforced with CNT are analyzed by multiscale method. Effective properties of the fiber at microscale determined by homogenization procedure using modified shear-lag model, while on the macro scale effective properties for the point-bonded stochastic fibrous network determined by volume homogenization procedure using multilevel finite element. Random fibrous network was generated according experimentally determined stochastic quantificators. Influence of CNT reinforcement on elastic modulus of electrospun sheet on macroscopic level is determined.

Abstract:
Often the input values used in mathematical models for rolling bearings are in a wide range, i.e., very small values of deformation and damping are confronted with big values of stiffness in the governing equations, which leads to miscalculations. This paper presents a two degrees of freedom (2-DOF) dimensionless mathematical model for ball bearings describing a procedure, which helps to scale the problem and reveal the relationships between dimensionless terms and their influence on the system’s response. The derived mathematical model considers nonlinear features as stiffness, damping, and radial internal clearance referring to the Hertzian contact theory. Further, important features are also taken into account including an external load, the eccentricity of the shaft-bearing system, and shape errors on the raceway investigating variable dynamics of the ball bearing. Analysis of obtained responses with Fast Fourier Transform, phase plots, orbit plots, and recurrences provide a rich source of information about the dynamics of the system and it helped to find the transition between the periodic and chaotic response and how it affects the topology of RPs and recurrence quantificators.

Abstract:
Various studies have shown that swimming pool mismanagement could serve as medium for water-borne diseases transmission. The research aimed to assess the biological quality of public swimming pool water in Tangerang city. One public swimming pool at the center of Tangerang city was assessed during November – December 2016 by adding two parameters to routine bacteriological indicators assessed by Tangerang city Heath Official in publicfacilities. Nine samples taken from three points in the swimming pool at three time periods, i.e. before, after, and during operational hours were analysed in the laboratory for detection and quantificaton of bacteriological indicators of swimming pool water, i.e. coliform, Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Results showed that the number of total coliform and Escherichia coliof the public swimming pool exceeded WHO guidelines but not Peudomonas and Staphylococcus. Therefore, the disinfection, cleaning, and monitoring procedures need to be improved as well as increasing public swimming pool users education about the risk of potential transmissible diseases in public swimming pool.

Abstract:
The article deals with the perfume and cosmetic name corpus research in the aspect of parametrization in multiaspective and multistructural ways. Multiaspective peculiarities are divided into naming and informational aspects. Multistructural features are reflected in the combination of A-brand (manufacturer), B-basic (individual), C-genitive (article), D-functional-descriptive integrants. The next level of multistructural features is connected with the combination of integrants into bigger structures, they are integrators. They are associated within the huge article unit name corpus. The corpus itself consists of such semantic components as quantificators, qualificators, determinatives. Naming integrator corpus provides the discrimination of article units, and demonstrates the involvement of naming devices and some shade of social stratification. Involvement of naming register is reflected in the corpus too. Article units are associated with their naming integrators. In the process of research there were two stages of selection. The primary stage identified 54 classes of goods. The secondary one identified 13 leading classes of olfactory and colouring goods. Parameters which are identified in the process of parametrization may be qualitative and quantitative in their mutual functioning and correlation. Quality and quantity are reflected in goods types, naming devices, naming register. The goods name corpus is a stock of information, knowledge about article units. The informational nucleus is created with two subgroups. The first subgroup represents some information about olfactory, aroma, fragrance, odour. The second one contains some information about optical effect, colouring, tinting, masking.

Abstract:
Gadolinium (Gd) high atomic weight can enable us to use the Gd-chelates as contrast agents (c.a.) in computed tomography (CT). CT contrast enhancement (c.e.) due to Gadodiamide (Gd-DTPA-BMA, Omniscan, Nycomed-Amersham), a non-ionic paramagnetic c.a. used in magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, was evaluated and quantified through an in vitro and in vivo study.

Abstract:
2015 - 2016
The present study analyses the use of vague quantifiers in spoken Italian and German. Vague quantifiers are linguistic expressions through which speakers approximately or imprecisely quantify, estimate and approximate numerical values. Chapter I recalls the main contemporary studies on linguistic vagueness in spoken language, with a focus on the concept of Intentional Vagueness. Chapter II deals with quantitative approximation and the studies that managed to observe the use of vague quantifiers in spoken language until now, in order to describe their functions, contexts of use and communicative effects. Chapter III describes the methodological choices made to analyse vague quantifiers in spoken Italian and German, i.e. the corpora chosen for each language and the criteria beyond the choices of the conversations and the labelling of linguistic forms that arose during the analysis. The chapter proceeds with the first quantitative data about the use of vague quantifiers and the conversational contexts in which they are more frequent. Finally, this chapter describes the causes and the effects of vague quantifiers in spoken conversations as well as the experiential domains that we more frequently tend to quantify through vague or approximate words. Chapter IV contains the analysis of the different types of quantification expressions that were grouped into seven different categories or types. The chapter describes the form and functions of vague quantifiers and gives quantitative information about the occurrences. This analysis also takes into account multiple expressions of vagueness and quantification, i.e. it describes those cases in which speakers use more than one strategy of quantification and vagueness in the same utterance, observing the type of relations among these different elements and whether or not they form clusters or behave like co-occurrences. In Chapter V, the concluding remarks are shown, focussing on the more relevant aspects of my analysis for both languages. [edited by Author]

Abstract:
In the last decades, much research across different domains has been devoted to the investigation of spatial-congruity effects and various research showed that humans process information related to time and magnitude by representing it in spatial terms. As a result, the concepts of Mental Number Line (MNL) and of Mental Time Line (MTL) have been proposed. The horizontal MNL and MTL are spatial continua on which small numbers and earlier events are represented on the left and larger numbers and later events are represented on the right of the line. From a psycholinguistic perspective, there are other types of information related to magnitude and time that can be explored in spatial terms. In this doctoral dissertation, I investigate spatial association of linguistic inputs by exploring two phenomena which have not been considered in spatial terms: vague quantifiers and sub-lexical verb endings. I investigated whether vague quantifiers both presented in isolation (Chapters 2-4) and embedded in sentences (Chapter 3), were spatially represented. In Chapter 5 I investigated whether sub-lexical strings, namely verb endings, carry conceptual information about time and are able to activate the Mental Time Line. Results showed that vague quantifiers are subjected to a response-side compatibility effect, that I defined as SLARC effect, according to which Low-Magnitude quantifiers, such as pochi (“few”) or alcuni (“some”), were responded to faster with the left hand and High-Magnitude quantifiers, such as molti (“many”) or parecchi (“several”), were responded to faster with the right hand (Chapter 2). I then demonstrate that quantifiers’ magnitude can be successfully manipulated by the linguistic context and that the spatial-association effect can be blurred by a working-memory effect (Chapter 3). Results from Chapter 4 showed that quantifiers can be mentally ordered, although in a flexible format, according to their magnitude. In Chapter 5 I showed that verb-endings successfully activate the MTL and that the spatial temporal congruency effect strongly emerged both when the tense of the stimuli was relevant and when it was not relevant to the task. The results of this dissertation provide novel insights about spatial representations of linguistic stimuli related to magnitude, through the exploration of vague quantifiers, and to time, through the exploration of tensed verbs and tense-related sub-strings. Overall, these findings support the idea that there is a general tendency to transform also linguistic knowledge into spatial representations.

Angiolini, Silvia. "La decidibilità del campo esponenziale reale." Master's thesis, Alma Mater Studiorum - Università di Bologna, 2019. http://amslaurea.unibo.it/18184/.

Full text
Abstract:

Abstract:

The present paper examines substandard Polish constructions in which the quantifiers kupa ‘a lot’, masa ‘mass’ and połowa ‘a half’ in Subject function occur in the Accusative case (plus the referential noun in the Genitive) and take neuter singular verb agreement: Kupę ludzi zebrało się na placu, ‘a lot of people gathered in the square’. Drawing on a large amount of occurrences taken from two corpora a qualitative analysis of the construction is carried out, in order to highlight how the indefinite quantifier semantic characteristics predispose it to the thematic role of Patient.
