Abstract:
The aim of the study is to improve the quality of nursing care for patients in the trauma department by developing a standard. Results. High physical activity, performance of unusual functions, lack of psychological knowledge are priority problems, the solution of which will improve the quality of nursing care. Conclusion. The lack of standards for nursing in the care of patients with trauma pathology in the literature has prompted the development of an exemplary standard for nursing care for patients with a femoral fracture. It is this category of patients that is distinguished by a high need for medical assistance and care.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the extent to which nursing leadership, perceived by nursing staff, influences nursing quality. Design/methodology/approach – Data were collected between August and October 2011 in a Portuguese health center via a questionnaire completed by nurses. Our original sample included 283 employees; 184 questionnaires were received (65% response). Findings – The theoretical model presents reasonably satisfactory fit indices (values above literature reference). Path analysis between latent constructs clearly suggests that nursing leadership has a direct (ß=0.724) and statistically significant (p=0.007) effect on nursing quality. Originality/value – Results reinforce several ideas propagated throughout the literature, which suggests the relationship's relevance, but lacks empirical support, which this study corrects.

Abstract:
This research analyzes publicly available information on the quality of services delivered by healthcare organizations. The accessibility and transparency of healthcare data is exponentially growing. Due to the complexity of different provider groups in healthcare, the focus is on the nursing home industry. A key objective of this research is to explore any association among the government-defined quality ratings, cost-effectiveness, and quality care provided by a nursing home. Quality and performance metrics for all nursing homes that receive reimbursements from CMS is in the public domain. The CMS purports that nursing homes with high overall star ratings provide excellent healthcare to their residents. A surprising result from this study found high-quality-rated nursing homes with more nurse hours per resident provided lower quality care than nursing homes, which had lower nursing hours per resident. The research also suggests that healthcare organizations, such as nursing homes, acquire business analytics (BA) capabilities for specific government metrics.

Abstract:
The evolution of standardized nursing languages (SNLs) has been occurring for more than four decades. The importance of this work continues to be acknowledged as an effective strategy to delineate professional nursing practice. In today's health care environment, the demand to deliver cost-effective, safe, quality patient care is an essential mandate embedded in all health reform policies. Communicating the contributions of professional nursing practice to other nurses, health providers, and other members of the health care team requires the articulation of nursing's focus of concern and responses to these concerns to improve patient outcomes. The visibility of the electronic health record (EHR) in practice settings has accelerated the need for nursing to communicate its practice within the structure of the electronic format. The integration of SNLs into the patient record offers nurses an opportunity to describe the focus of their practice through the identification of nursing diagnosis, interventions and outcomes (IOM, 2010). Continued development, testing, and refinement of SNLs offers nursing an accurate and reliable way to use data elements across populations and settings to communicate nursing practice, enable nursing administrators and leaders in health care to delineate needed resources, cost out nursing care with greater precision, and design new models of care that reflect nursepatient ratios and patient acuity that are data driven (Pesut & Herman, 1998). The continued use of nursing languages and acceleration of nursing research using this data can provide the needed evidence to help link nursing knowledge to evidence-driven, cost-effective, quality outcomes that more accurately reflect nursing's impact on patient care as well as the health care system of which they are a part. The evaluation of research to support the development, use, and continued refinement of nursing language is critical to research and the transformation of patient care by nurses on a global level.

Full text
Abstract:
Background The concept of quality nursing care in a dementia specific unit is perceived as being subject to the interpretation of individuals, nurses and healthcare organisations. As the number of dementia diagnoses increases, understanding what constitutes quality nursing care within dementia specific care units is vital to inform policy makers and healthcare organisations globally. Efforts to identify quality nursing care and improve dementia care within dementia specific care units, may significantly reduce the financial and emotional burden of care-giving and improve the quality of life for individuals living with dementia. This scoping review aimed to examine current literature to gain an understanding of what constitutes quality nursing care in a dementia specific care unit. Design and methods Five electronic databases (CINAHL, MEDLINE, ProQuest, Social Sciences Citation Index and Ovid) were used to search for articles published in English between 2011 and 2016 focusing on a definition of quality nursing care within dementia specific care units. Findings: Twenty journal articles were identified. From these articles, two content themes were identified: Challenges in the provision of quality nursing care in dementia specific care units, and Standardised approach to quality nursing care in a dementia specific care unit. The articles contained the following research designs, controlled pre-test and post-test design ( n = 1), focus group interviews ( n = 1), cross sectional survey ( n = 6), semi structured interviews ( n = 3), narrative review ( n = 1), survey ( n = 2), literature review ( n = 3), systematic review ( n = 1), and prospective longitudinal cohort study ( n = 2). Conclusions The concept of quality nursing care in a dementia specific unit remains subject to the interpretation of individuals, nurses and healthcare organisations, with current literature unable to provide a clear definition. Further research into what constitutes quality nursing care in dementia specific care units is recommended.
